This travel is opening October 12th, a pleasant grove office. Don't forget the Utah Fall Travel Expo. Nancy Vomor, Director of Communications and Marketing at the Salt Lake International Airport will be joining us. We're going to be headed to Greece. And what should you be looking for in travel insurance? Couple of other topics is the current cruise promotions and which cruise cabins do you want to avoid? I've got some outrageous. I mean outrageous Hawaii and Mexico deals one five star all inclusive this winter in cancun for less than a thousand dollars all inclusive.

And for those who are interested in faith-based tours, there's Morris Columbus travel has offered a special conference discount. And now that's just some of the things we're going to be talking about. Oh, I'm glad to spend this time with you. Well, let me give you the big story. I'm going to repeat this in the second hour. Also, it's so big. First of all, let me explain how cruise group bookings work. Morris Columbus travel for an example will book a group cruise. I'm talking about ocean cruises here. And we get a discount. Sometimes it's a little discount. The one I'm going to tell you about today. I've never seen in my 47 years in the travel industry. And we have them. Well, if the ship starts to sell the cruise line calls us sometimes with less than a day's notice and said, OK, this is selling so well.

We're selling it for a much higher price than we gave you. So we're taking back all the unsold cabins right now. Some of you join me on the pearls of Asia. Remember that one Singapore Vietnam Hong Kong Taiwan and four stops in Japan. That was just last spring. Remember that one. We had with Royal Caribbean. We had a group booking. We had cabins. And I told them we're going to really promote this in our January travel expo. And two or three days before expo, we get a call. We hadn't even promoted this. We had sold a couple of cabins word of mouth. But the expo was our big promotion. We get a call from Royal Caribbean saying your prices are thousands of dollars less than what we're selling it for. This one's going so well. We're taking back your group booking as of right now. We threw a holy fit and we're the largest seller. We being Morris Columbus travel the largest seller of cruises and travel in the entire inner mountain west.

And as a result, they said, OK, we'll give you two weeks. Well, they thought we'd sell a few cabins. We sold 150 people. That was our whole. We sold out our group allotment. And they were shopped. But our prices were a thousand fifteen hundred dollars per person less than buying it directly. I've got one of those today. We have a group booking on a place you want to go. You know, when I talk to people all the time, I ask them, tell me your travel bucket list. And they'll talk about I see a lot of the destinations and beautiful places around the world come up in everybody's. And when I tell people, listen, write down five or ten travel bucket list destinations, things you want to do experiences that you want to have. And then do three things. One is listen to the travel show every Saturday from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. mountain time. And yes, I know there are a few stations that delay that broadcast and that's OK.

But listen to us every weekend. If you miss us, go to Morris Columbus dot com Morris Columbus dot com. Click on radio. And you can hear a podcast of the show. And I shouldn't say this, but what's nice about is all the commercials are cut out. Oh, I'm going to get in trouble for that one. That's number one. Number two is join me on the new news every Monday on KUTV channel two, the CBS affiliate for Utah and some of the surrounding states area. There, I've been with them for 16, 17 years, kind of like their travel reporter. I do a segment called the getaway guru and it's travel news. It's not necessarily a commercial. It's traveling to say your passport requirements have changed. There's a new fee. There's this visa required. But they've told me if you have some screaming deal like I'm just about to tell you, then you can promote that and it kind of is an information commercial.

So number two, that's on the new news, which is 12 to 1. My segment report comes in usually about 1240, 1238, 1245. Somewhere in that era, watch the whole hour. It's great news. But join me a number three. Just tell your Morris Columbus travel advisor when you see a screaming deal, share your bucket list with them. When you see a scream and deal. Call me no obligation. Call me. So let me tell you what the screaming deal is. Everybody everybody's bucket list has the South Pacific, Australia, New Zealand, the islands of Polynesia. I've got a cruise. My wife, Kathy and I'll be your personal host and tour guide. It's February 13th to the 26th, 2028. So we got about a year and a half to plan for it, you know, with Princess Cruises on the beautiful royal princess. I love that ship, you know, it has, it has a crew ratio.

One guest for every three crew members. I mean, you got it's just as ridiculous 16 dining options, six pools and hot tubs. But the real winners, the itinerary, let me go through it. We're going to sail from Sydney, Australia to Auckland, New Zealand and everything in between. We're going to even go to Tasmania, we'll cruise Fjordland National Park. This is Lord of the Ring Country, Deneid Napier, Taoranga, which is, yeah, that's kind of the seat of the Maudi ethnic people, Bay of islands. One of the really thing, a place that very few cruise ships go is Great Oyster Bay in Australia. Anyway, it's Australia, New Zealand. We'll offer a three night pre cruise option. That's optional. And a two night post cruise option. The pre, of course, is Sydney, the post is in Auckland. We're going down to Hobbiton down near Matamata, New Zealand, stop by Hamilton for a photo op right there.

Anyway, let me tell you the deal. I'm going to pick an example. Here is it's a balcony cabin. And every, you know, with balconies, you have all these different categories, depending on where they're looking. This is a great cabin. It's a BB4. That's how the cruise line identifies this one. If you were to contact Princess Cruises, now this is a two week cruise. Their price is $4284,284. And for a two week cruise, divide that in half. That's about what you're paying for a balcony cabin in Alaska. So that price is reasonable. All right, keep in mind $4284. If you buy that directly on our group program, and I'm telling you, Princess Cruises is going to pull this group. I don't know when, but it's so much slower.

Direct from the cruise line 4,284 purchased the same cabin, the same date, the same everything from Morris, Columbus, travel 2,451 dollars. That is a 43% discount. 24, 15 for a balcony cabin. That's about 1200 bucks and change for a week in a balcony cabin. Now that we also have deluxe balconies. They offer an obstructed view balcony. Stay away from that one. I mean, you got a balcony. You got a life boat in front of you. You don't want that. And inside cabin starts with a it's called an I B4 inside 3360, 3360 buying direct from Morris, Columbus, travel 1841. I mean, it's a $1,500 discount. Yeah, that's about the 47. Anyway, I am expecting the cruise line to pull our group because our rates, which we locked in, are so much lower than buying directly from the cruise line.

Call Monday. Call your favorite Morris, Columbus, travel advisor or call the group department directed 801 48363 63 that's 801 48363 63 63. When we come back, we're going out to the Salt Lake International Airport and get the update on what's cooking at our hometown airport. Thank you for joining us today on the travel show. I'm Larry Gillwicks, the Getaway Guru.

Hey, for our listeners, we have a very special guest, a real treat, good friend of mine, Nancy, Volmer, director, communication and marketing at the Salt Lake International Airport, Nancy, rather than welcome to the show, I'm going to say welcome back to the show. Good to have you with us.

Well, you know, a lot of exciting things are taking place at the Salt Lake Airport. In fact, could you kind of bring us up to date on the final phase of the new Salt Lake City International Airport redevelopment program because a milestone is coming up later this month with it. Five, that's a good one. We am pretty much every fall we have opened up another phase and when we open up a new phase, we like to celebrate these milestones and so come October 27th, we're going to be having another celebration. I'm going to hold another a little private celebration even that the weekend before, but this will really be the final milestone for this completion.

And you know, I think it's really what you need about this is that with every phase we've opened, we've also highlighted new art piece and that is the case for this final phase too. So when we open up on October 27th, we're going to see this new art and situation called gateway to the world. And I think that really describes what this airport has become for local. You know, with this reconstruction, you know, everything gets bigger and better. You mentioned the new art. I understand seven more gates and six new concessions, but Nancy, let's talk about something important. Six new restaurants will be joining us. Oh, it's so true. And you know, we've really tried to highlight the local restaurants and shops. And so you'll see some of those local restaurants opening up. We have an addition to Charlie's chicken fingers. We have Einstein brothers, bagel, manarca, which is a local place, mucci and then of course, swig.

I was going to say Nancy, one of the things I've talked about on my radio show forever since you've opened up the new airport is street pricing. Would you explain that to our listeners? Yeah, you bet it really is a unique part of Salt Lake City Airport because I'm not too many airports offer street pricing on what this means is that passengers will pay the same price at the airport. As they do when these businesses are located. You know, you know, you look at that 50% or 50 cent hot dog at 711 or some place that you have no idea how long it's been on the roller. The same dog is like 5 6 7 bucks at some airports, but you're going to pay the same price. For example, you go to cafe Rio downtown, provo, same price at the airport. Now we're speaking with Nancy Volmer director communication and marketing at Salt Lake's international airport. Nancy, what's been the reaction to the new airport since it first opened?

You know what everyone has really welcomed this new airport. It's just been tremendous. Since we opened, we have garnered numerous awards and recognition. We're just on a national basis. This is internationally and globally. So we've had publications such as travel and leisure, condi, NAS traveler, JD power. And then also the airports council international. This is something that we're very proud of because this is a global award. The this is from surveys that our passengers take. And last year we were named the best airport in North America for our size. So that's 25 million passengers. Thank you. And we also been named the most enjoyable airports. And we always are recognized for having the cleanest airport. And you know, that's really an important factor we found for our passengers. They like to have a clean airport. And it's really hard to keep it up.

I'll make two comments. You also named number eight globally in the whole world. Best best airports. You know, you know, it kind of blew me away Nancy is I'll go into the men's room and there's artwork. That's right. We have great airport. And there's a lot of wind wall. So there's art in each of the restrooms. And it's typically highlighting the local atmosphere, the local environment of Utah, just bringing that culture inside. Nancy, we have about a minute and a half left. Let me ask you a final question. How has the new airport really changed the dynamic of travel for Utah passengers, which we're talking to. And of course connecting passengers to what has changed? You know, I think it's really been a case of if you build it, they will come because we have built a facility and we're starting to see a lot of bad new airlines, new air service come into the area.

We really, I think, can say that we are a gateway to the world because we have more gate, which means more capacity. And we can recruit more airlines more slides. That really makes it a difference experience. It sure does. Have follow up question. We're talking about these seven new gates, six new concessions on the final face. And that'll be in terminal B or two. Correct. Right. Yeah, con course B on the east side on the east side. And who's going to occupy? We got about 30 seconds. Who's going to occupy those gates? What can we expect? So United Airlines will occupy some of the gates, but we also have what's called common use gates. And those are for airlines that do not have a lease with the airport. So you might see some existing airlines. Or if we recruit new airlines, they could use that space as well. But I have to say that the view from this area is tremendous. You see the wash that mountains. You see the airfield.

Fantastic. We've been speaking with Nancy Volmer director, communication and marketing salt like international airport. Nancy, thank you for joining us here on the travel show. And I hope to see you out at the airport October 27th. And you're welcome back on this show anytime. Thank you, Nancy. When we come back, we're headed to Greece. And the wonders of Greece. Welcome back to the travel show. I'm Larry Gellwicks, the getaway guru. The travel show is sponsored by Morris Columbus travel, where you always travel more and pay less. Morris Columbus travel is the largest seller of travel of cruises of vacations in the entire inner mountain west. As a result, they have some scream and deal. Some of them exclusive like that Australia, Australia New Zealand cruise February of 20th and I'll be leading our group rates are almost half of the prices.

If you buy it directly from the cruise line, why we locked it in kind of because of who we are. So I'd love to have you join me on that. Contact your favorite Morris Columbus travel advisor on Monday and ask for the details of Larry's Australian news. Australia New Zealand, the actual cruise dates are February 13 to 26. Hey, I want to remind you that Morris Columbus travel is opening. I should say reopening in Utah County. It's going to happen a week from this Monday, October the 12th in pleasant Grove. You know that the office is just off I 15 in the pleasant Grove exit. The actual address is 1043 South Valley Grove Way, pleasant groove. And you know that South Valley Grove way. I mean, it's just a stones throw from I 15. You take the pleasant Grove exit. Go towards the mountains turn left there at the exit. And you'll run right into South Valley Grove way 1043 South Valley Grove way. Now the office opens.

It opens for business Monday, October the 12th. We are planning a grand opening open house on October the 24th, which is a Saturday. And yes, I'll be broadcasting live. We have a remote broadcast there. I'll be live with the travel show at the pleasant Grove office and all sorts of activities and things to pick up. I also want to remind you that on Saturday, two weeks from today, October 17th is the Utah fall travel expo. It's at the Davis Conference Center in late 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. free admission with exclusive expo discounts. We'll have about 40 plus vendors there because that's all we can fit in their big meeting. The conference area, you know, the winter one, which we'll still have in January, we have over 100 travel vendors, travel vendors are airlines, cruise lines, tour companies, resorts, so far, everything travel.

But we're going to fill the conference center at Davis. It's in late in Utah on October 17th. And did I tell you about free prize giveaways, airline tickets, cruises, resort stays every hour. Something's going to be given away. You don't have to be present to win, but you do have to register to win and your register when you arrive, you go boom, boom, boom, and just get yourself registered. My suggestion is if you like come with your spouse or partner, both of you register and that doubles your chance to win there. Anyway, I'd love to have you. What's on your bucket list? You know, we talked in the first segment about travel bucket list and one destination that comes up in every survey. You look at Google on international travel searches. One country that's right there at the top is Greece. I love Greece. You know, it's really, it's a beloved travel destination.

And every year tens of millions of visitors travel to this Mediterranean company to experience breathtaking islands, ancient history. Oh my gosh, don't even get me started on Greek cuisine and warm hospitality. And I think the charm of Greece really lies in a perfect combination of natural beauty, cultural heritage and unforgettable experiences. I think some of the draws for me and maybe for you really has to start with the famous Greek island. Did you know there are more than six thousand islands and islands scattered across the G and C and I only in C with only 227 presently inhabited. Did you see the movie Mama Mia? You know that fact there's two movies. I love it when share comes out and starts singing. But that is on the island of Scopelos.

That's the Greek name. But in the movie, they renamed the island, Calokire. Calokire was the name, but Scopelos is the actual Greek name. We actually have a group going. I'll tell you about that later. It's going to go to the Mama Mia Island. You know, Santorini is probably the most famous Greek island known for those dramatic cliffs. There's three ways. If you come by cruise ship, they'll tender you into a Marina area. There's three ways to get up to the top where the city is located. You can take a finicular like a cable car and that's you know you have to buy a ticket. You can ride a mule and you have to buy a ticket there. That's kind of an interesting experience or you can walk. I don't I've never walked it. I've done the mule and I've done the cable I like the cable car. But oh my god. And then the city is perched up on the hill. Stunning beaches and you will not believe the clarity, the crystal clear water that you see there. And then how about the ancient history, archaeological sites.

You know, the Parthenon, the Acropolis. I'll talk about those a little bit later. You can visit where St. Paul the Apostle visited. You can go to Corinth, the book of 1st and 2nd Corinthians and other places. I love Mars Hill. I'll talk about that. His famous speech to the unknown God as he called it. Incredible cuisine and hospitality. I love the perfect Mediterranean climate. Now the summers are warm. Spring and fall are delightful. And it's a it's a mild winter. You know that Greece has 250 sunny days per year. Most people visit Greece say May to October. I like May and September not over because the summer heats kind of gone. It's not just electric. It's Toyota electric and during Toyota's easy choice sales event going electric is easier than ever. Right now, safe instantly on a new Toyota EV with special incentive programs for first time EV buyers and prior EV owners. Choose the sleek busy, the adventurous busy woodland or the sporty CHR. But don't wait. These special savings won't last. We make it easy. Toyota, let's go places.

Let's talk about Athens. Athens has a very sexy name conjures up all sorts of images. I wouldn't recommend that you unless you're a Greek a file or an archaeologist, I wouldn't recommend you spend a week in Athens for me to see it all and enjoy it. Maybe two days, two days to see everything. Some of the some of the sites you've heard of course and seen pictures of the Acropolis and the Parthenon. Let me tell you what these are. The Acropolis is an is is not a mountain. It's an ancient citadel built on a it's a very rocky hilltop above the city of Athens and contains the ruins of several historic buildings, including the Parthenon. Now the Parthenon dates back to 447 BC. I tell you one thing that's really sad is they're doing a lot of restoration work. But the Parthenon was partially destroyed in 1687 when during the Moran war, which was really Venice and Greece.

Venetian mortars hit the building and ignited a stash of gunpowder that was being stored there. The Ottomans were storing their gunpowder there. But there in Athens you have the Olympic stadium not back to the 5th century BC or anything like that. But you know it's it's a several hundred years old. The Temple of Zeus. Now I love I mentioned Mars Hill. I've stood there and read Paul speech. Paul speech you can find it in the book of Acts chapter 17 in the New Testament. Paul visited this area, stood on Mars Hill. This is 1st century during his 2nd missionary journey and found the city full of idols and paganism. And so he starts out his speech to the unknown God. He says arguing that God does not live in temples made by human hands. Now I'll tell you a favorite place for Kathy and I is Planca, PL, AKL, the ultimate shopping experience. I'm not talking about department stores. I'm talking about boutiques and shops block after block after block.

I'm talking about cafes, coffee houses, restaurants, intermingles. But it's everything you dream a Greek shopping experience to be kind of fun to go down to Constitution Square. I don't even know how many times. And it's nice to be there for the changing of the guard. I mentioned Mamma Mia, Scopalos, the island that was featured in the movie Mamma Mia where you got Crete, Santorini, Mecanos, the statue of Zeus at Olympia, the Temple of Zeus, the Colossus of Rhodes, Corinth. I mean it goes on and on and on. Let me mention a couple of programs that Morris Columbus travel has for 2027 that include a visit to Greece. Departing April 20th is the 2027 Greece and Turkey Apostles cruise with Tim Taggart 14 days and you will trace the footsteps of the Apostles and seeing all the other sites. It's not just hardcore Bible, Bible, Bible. It is the Apostles journey but it's all the other sites too.

I really like this when Mark and Jamie Ogletree departing June 4th for 13 days, footsteps of the Apostles, Mediterranean cruise. And one that does go to Scopalos, that's the Mamma Mia Island, none other than our favorite Wendy Fracier group department manager. She'll be taking a group on Star Clippers. Now this is a true sailing vessel. And don't think of some little sunfish boat. It's bigger than a football field but it is sales. Not where it has a propeller too. In case you hit the doldrums. Departing June 19th for 8 days, then again plus your travel time. You're sailing from Istanbul, Turkey to Athens. It's Greece and Turkey with Wendy Fracier. I've sailed with Star Clippers many times. It is fantastic. It's such a great experience. So, would love to show you Greece. It is high on your bucket list of places to visit. What would you what else is on your bucket list? You know the Greek, the Greek food is absolutely fantastic. We'll have to cover that in another show. You know, we often talk about Greece, the Greek Empire.

When we come back, we have got all sorts of fun things to talk about.

Welcome back to the travel show. I'm Larry Galwix to get away guru. Thank you for joining us. And you know, I run into so many of you every week. I'll be in a, I'll be in a store or a restaurant and someone will say it happens at least a half a dozen times. A week says, Oh, I recognize that voice. Are you Larry Galwix? Are you the getaway guru? It's such a pleasure. I love to sit and chat with you for just a minute. Of course, I've been on the radio now 35 years hosting the travel show about 17 years as the getaway guru on KUTV channel to that is like kind of like a travel reporter. It's news on the new news. You know, it's funny is I always wear in a low-haw shirt. And the host, you know, Rod and Mary and others, they're in a nice dresser, nice suit. I'm sitting in the super loud, a low-haw shirt kind of stands out. It's kind of fun. I've actually had people.

I leave the KUTV studio may be walking downtown. They're located like third south and main and people say, Oh, I recognize that sure. It's kind of fun there. Listen, you've got your airline ticket. You've got your hotel reservation. You may have a car rental reservation. You've got your cruise. You've got all your travel documents. Maybe except one. And this one is so important. It's travel insurance. Now let me just set the table right now. I don't like buying travel insurance. I really don't. It tends to be kind of expected expensive. I'm not planning on having a significant medical emergency. But who does plan on that? I wouldn't dream. However, of traveling without it. I don't like to buy car insurance. I have not had an accident with another car that was my fault in my entire life. I've been hit a couple of times. But I have not had an accident that was my fault in my entire life.

So why do I even buy by insurance? Because maybe I will. It's the unknown. It's the other guy. So I want to tell you some of the things you want to look for when you buy travel insurance. Sometimes called travel protection. You can buy it on an airline ticket. You can buy it on a cruise ship. Read the most important thing is no exactly what is included and what is not. I couldn't even tell you how many people have comments. And while I bought this. This travel insurance and the company won't honor it. Well, what your situation is is specifically excluded. And there's different levels. I mean, like a basic plan, a premier plan, a classic plan, all of these things. And I know you can buy travel insurance, say from a cruise line.

I'm a little wary of that because you know, just recently we had a fellow that bought a cruise and he didn't take a cruise line shirkskursion. They went out exploring on their own at a port. He had an accident had to be hospitalized. And the cruise line insurance denied his claim because he was not on the ship or on a ship sponsored activity. So I mean, you do whatever you want. I'm not dising cruise line insurance, but I'm not a big fan of it. Here are some of the things to look for. Trip cancellations and there's another. These are things you want to see is it included and then they're not necessarily included in everyone. I tell you the ones that are very, very important. I guess they all are is trip cancellation trip interruption.

Emergency transportation or evacuation. I could tell you stories of people who've been remote parts of the world had a serious medical event. One was flown back to the United States in a private jet with medical team. I know another one was down in French Polynesia had an aneurysm and they treated him at the best they could at the hospital. But then said you got to get back to the US. We can't do for you what you need. They put him on a plane in first class insurance company did with a life flat seat and a doctor. Seed next to him an ambulance met them at LAX took him straight to a hospital with the doctor doctor from Tahiti handed it over to the US doctors and flew back. All of that was covered so you want you ask about trip interruption. What if your flight is delayed to a tour or cruise ship. What if it's canceled.

We mentioned emergency transportation baggage delay your suitcases don't show up now here's one that is included in some plans but not in all kids ensured for free. That means your kids under 18 with at least one paying parent or grandparent. They get covered as long as the parent or grandparent has coverage also some will offer cancel for an included reason. Others offer cancel for any reason at any time. The brand name is Morris Murdoch escorted tours that's the like general motors and Chevrolet two names same company I want to remind you of that a week from Monday Morris Columbus travel will be reopening an office in Utah County it'll be in pleasant grow at 1043 South Valley Grove way now that is I mean that you can go to the other side of the world.

I mean that you can almost throw a rock at the freeway don't throw a rock but it's just a stone throw away take the pleasant Grove exit if you're not in pleasant Grove go towards Mount Tipinogas I mean for quarter of a mile or so and there you are with South Valley Grove way it's kind of an old strip mall of offices and businesses but that now. They will be open Monday October 12 to do business and would love to have you stop by however two weeks later on Saturday October the 24th is an open house a grand opening I will be on location broadcasting live you can come down and harass me bring me food like that I also want to remind you of the fall Utah fall travel expo. On Saturday October 17th from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Davis Conference Center in Layton free admission more than 40 travel companies will be there you can go sit down ask questions take advantage of exclusive expo discounts and there's going to be prizes airline tickets cruises resort and hotel stays all sorts of fun things every hour now you don't have to be present to win

but you do have to register to win and you do that in person when you arrive and then at some point the drawing will be made hey you heard me say that I do believe the two best travel deals right now I mean it's not even close our cruises and Mexico all inclusives free shot at Betway sports book and casino available today sports offer get a deposit match up to three hundred dollars plus fifty bonus bins on your favorite games with Betway this is what excitement is made of 18 plus play responsibly I always dreamed of being a doctor St. George's gave me the opportunity to fulfill that dream I always think about my opportunity to be on that island to learn from so many different people from so many different walks of life to approach medicine from such a different perspective and ultimately shape me to be somebody who is a culmination of those experiences and then sent me off into the world of residency where I am now is incredibly well-rounded physician learn more at stu.edu slash explorer I'd like to talk a bit about cruises and the next segment I'll talk about some Mexico all inclusive including this winter in cancun at a five star completely over the top resort I've stayed there

all inclusive for six days less than a thousand bucks I mean it's just incredible let's talk about cruises some of the promotions out there we'll start with the love boat now one of the phrases you see with cruise lines and other travel entities is up to up to they say you save up to this well the up to means that not everybody gets the max amount but it depends on where you're sailing with cruise lines what type of cabin you have booked how long the cruise is obviously the sweets and pen houses get more than the inside but here's princess with the famous up to all right up to you up to 40% off your cruise fair and in addition up to three hundred dollars off what they call instant savings and then one that I really like this is so good for good friends and family kids grandkids I've taken advantage of this next part third and fourth guest sharing your cabin on select cruises sale absolutely free you just pay the taxes you know last April we took our whole family kids grandkids that was their Christmas present and we went on a spring break they were out of school went on a Mexico cruise

and man oh man did we have fun they still talk about that young kids to older kids and that is kids sale free so we had two grandkids in it's oh can't I were paying for it we had two grandkids in our room which we just love but why buy a macabre when they can stay with us for free royal carabbean by the way I think royal carabbean does such a spectacular job with their kids programs and with families up to you remember what I said about up to up to eight hundred dollars off your cruise fair and a special promotion if you sell to the carabbean or west coast through April 2027 up to another hundred dollars off and here again third and fourth person sale free sharing your cabin you just pay the taxes let's go to Norwegian cruise line now they have a good promotion here with the second guest sales free second guest sharing your cabin of course by the way I should mention cruise deals are generally for just a few days all of the cruise deals I'm mentioning have to be booked no with Morris Columbus travel no later than Monday now that means let's get on it some other deal will come by but it may not be as good these are free

fantastic deals so on select cruises second guest cruises free up to seven hundred and fifty dollars off balcony and above state rooms that means above means like a sweet or penthouse on select saleings and their free at C program now I've explained this before but I'm going to repeat it technically the free at C is free however the devil's in the details and it's a good program they have unlimited drinks both let it and unleaded they have some free Wi-Fi usually about a hundred and fifty minutes on a one week cruise longer on a longer cruise specialty dining and here's the devil in the details the program is free however they have a mandatory drink package gratuity of twenty eight dollars and fifty cents a day it's about two hundred bucks for a one week cruise longer or more for a longer cruise less for a shorter cruise that's about two hundred bucks per person

so you get the program free but then you have to pay now as far as a drink package if you enjoy an adult beverage to break even if you were to buy the package here you get it free but with other cruise lunch you have to drink about seventy drinks a day that's a lot of alcohol maybe for some that's not a drink that's not much alcohol but we'll we'll see about that anyway so you just have to plan that out do you because you couldn't decline the NCL free at C is it worth it I think the twenty bucks is a gratuity for the specialty dining like Kagni steakhouse it's kind of a roots Chris want to be the temp in Yaki it's like Benny Hone of Tokyo it's absolutely fend fantastic is it what you want is now as far as if you don't drink alcohol you're paying two hundred bucks for a drink package come on guys that's a lot of diet coke but it is convenient for it let's move to Viking which offers both ocean and river cruises here's something if you

force Columbus travel is the largest seller of Viking cruises in the inner mountain west nobody comes close and as a result we have a special arrangement if you have booked your Viking cruise directly with Viking not with some other travel agency but directly with Viking within the last sixty days you call morris Columbus travel and we can drop another two hundred dollars off your cruise fare per cabin two hundred bucks assuming two people in the cabin I mean who else does that who else does that two hundred bucks up anyway Viking also has some other promotions option a up to a thousand dollars there's the up to again on board credit and depends on the length of your cruise option B you pick up your one of them you get a free drink package and prepaid gratuities they're not like NCL they're not going to hit you up for that package but what I like the most is depending on the cruise it's on select cruises free or reduced international air you can save up to five thousand dollars a couple now that's in the ultimate presidential suite but they have a savings on top off the cruise

fair and what's really great is just a twenty five dollar deposit celebrity cruises has a good program seventy five percent off the second guess and save up to there's your up to eight hundred dollars per state room and yeah all of these you got a book by Monday October 5th why don't they give us more notice because people just put it off and put it off hey when we come back I'm going to tell you about a five star six day all inclusive this winter and cancun for less than a thousand dollars you're listening to the travel show may I give you a very special special thank you I look so look forward to spending this time with you every week this my thirty fifty year hosting the travel show I'm Larry Galwicks the getaway guru and thank you for joining us we have a lot of fun and when we run into each other out in the public arena you always say hello or something like I so very much appreciate that

you know we were talking about cruise promotions in the last segment very quickly I want to give you what I consider the cruise cabins to avoid and then we'll get to this special cancun five star resort for under a thousand dollars I mean you stay wherever you want but the cabins that I like to avoid is those cabins that are right in the elevator waiting area you know the right opposite the elevators now I don't like to be way down the hall I like to be you know you have the elevators and kind of an open space where there's cabins that open and everybody can kind of look in I like to be down the hallway about three or four cabins nobody can see it's but I don't have a long walk also the cabins above the theater and the nightclub you know of course unless you want to have a thunderous ovation as you're rolling around in bed or something like that also cabins above the casino it just you can get some of the noise

there cabins below the pool deck now no it's not going to be Noah's art flood to coming through your ceiling but there's so much running around by the pool that sometimes you can hear that the other is at the front of the ship I tend to avoid the front of the ship now in if the waters calm it's smooth sailing but if you get into rough waters the front of the boat there's more pitch up and down than at midship or aft which is the back of the boat but I don't like to have a cab near the anchor man alive can you absolutely hear that coming down now for ocean view and balcony and switch you generally will have a view but there's obstructed an unobstructed cabins and unobstructed means you have a clear view an obstruction means partial or full something will be in front of your ocean view window or something will be just outside of your balcony yes you have a balcony but all you see is the orange paint on the side of a lifeboat

I tend to avoid if I can a joining cabins because the noise penetrates it through the door except if I have a family that we're traveling with our grandkids are kids of course we're getting a joining cabins well not every cabin on a cruise ship is ideal so it really pays to do your homework before booking a specific cabin category and location and this is where your Morris Columbus travel advisor can be a life saver it's not just electric it's Toyota electric and during Toyota's easy toy sales event going electric is easier than ever right now save instantly on a new Toyota eb with special incentive programs for first time eb buyers and prior eb owners choose the sleek busy the adventurous busy woodland or the sporty chr but don't wait these special savings won't last we make it easy Toyota let's go places

well this I never thought I'd see a five star can coon hotel all inclusive for less than a thousand bucks now keep in mind that all promotions and all discounts are subject to change and availability at the time of booking this is current as of today this moment all inclusive of course means that your round trip airfare your transfers from the airport to the resort and back your resort all your meals all your drinks tips gratuities activities they say all activities except motorized I mean you know you want to get a little sunfish sailboat or a boogie board that that won't cost anything you want to rent a jet ski well that's going to cost you so all inclusive using what I've called the secret airfares keep in mind that the secret airfare is my term the actual legal

term is tour operator fair where airlines will heavily discount the airfare if it's booked with something it's not air only you got a package it might be a hotel might be a car rental it might be something and so this has these big discounts so one of my favorite hotels and can coon I've stayed there many times is the El Dorado Royale Royale R O Y A L E you go and Google El Dorado Royale can coon now all rates are subject to change and availability and the dates of travel I looked at a six day trip departing December 3rd coming back the eighth you can certainly add extra time to it but and that will that'll affect the price are you ready for this well first a little drum roll El Dorado Royale it's there on the Riviera Maya 27 dining options including 14 kind of like sit down restaurants you know

my favorite one they have great just seafood and Mexican food and European cuisine everything but my absolute favorite down by one of the pools they have a taco truck yeah just a taco truck and I should call it a taco cart and I just they're so good and the the small tortilla you can have as many street tacos as you want six main pools but 12 swim areas they have what they call a lazy river you can float or get an inflatable and you just kind of glide through the resort on what's called the lazy river they have swim up a combination swim up sweets private pool it's just goes on and on so right now December 3rd to the 8th the 5 star El Dorado Royale 955 dollars per person this is winter time peak season all inclusive can coon 5 star I don't expect this price to hold and to be honest I don't know what it'll be

Monday because it can change any day if you're looking at Porto Vierta all inclusive at the reo Vierta same dates December 3rd to the 8th 5 star I've stayed at this hotel it is fantastic a thousand 46 yes my best deal in Honolulu same dates is that the oh here why could he studio sweets it's about it's just off coo Avenue about two blocks from the beach a thousand twenty two but Hawaii is not all inclusive hey jump on this El Dorado Royale to can coon or the reo Vierta at Porto Vierta this is just pure insanity with the pricing hey when we come back I've got the biggest cruise story of the year fast in your seat belt I'm not sure you'll even believe me

welcome back to the travel show I'm Larry Gellwicks they get away guru the travel show is sponsored by Morris Columbus travel where you always travel more and pay less I hope you'll join us on one of our Morris Murdoch escorted tours we have them all around the world including some faith based tours and as a special conference bonus whether you attend conference or not Morris Columbus travel through their escorted tour program Morris Murdoch escorted tours is offering some special faith based tour discounts contact Morris Columbus travel for more details on that one save a lot of money now I told you I had the biggest cruise story of the year maybe for decades I I shared this in segment one and I told you I was going to repeat it in the second hour we have a cruise excuse me that seems to be on everybody's bucket list it's Australia to New Zealand

Kathy and I my wife Kathy and I'll be personally hosting it in February of 2028 the actual cruise dates are February 13 to 26 it's a two week cruise 14 days and includes Australia Tasmania the north and South islands in New Zealand basically you see the countries it's just absolutely wonderful now here's what makes it unique we were able to secure a group discount that is almost half price and I'm going to give you an example of that and we can talk about the itinerary I mentioned it's Sydney the great oyster bay which few people go to it's so gorgeous Tasmania Fjordland that's Lord of the Rings country to need an up to Napier and Taranga which is the kind of the epicenter the Maori culture the Bay of Islands and then into Auckland we have a three night pre cruise Sydney option where we see Sydney we get out into the kind of the outback of the blue mountains a two night package three days two nights in Auckland at the end these are options

and we see all of Auckland we stop in Hamilton for a photo op of the temple there we go out to Matamata and then the highlight has to be Hobbiton where the actual set of Lord of the Rings and the Hobbiton movies were filmed it is just just great and we have a drink there in the green dragon in remember that anyway so let me tell you what we've done we've secured group discounts now cruise lines do this crazy thing they'll give you a group booking but they have the right at any time to come back and say we're taking away all of your unsold cabins now why do they do this well the group discount that we have is so low they're selling it for much more and they say this ship is filling up so if we take back the group space from travel agencies we can make more money we'll sell it at a higher price let me give you an example so this is Australia and New Zealand and you know you want to go there and I'd love to share with you

Kathy and I February 13 to 26 the actual cruise dates we sell from Sydney to Auckland here is a balcony cabin now this is two weeks and this is Princess cruise is by the way the ship the Royal Princess I absolutely love it I've sailed on it many times 16 dining options six pools and hot tubs a three to one ratio meaning that for every guest there's three crew members I mean that's just insane so the real winner here's the itinerary so here's a balcony cabin on this cruise it's they have a designation you can say balcony and there are probably 15 different balcony categories where is it on the ship how big is it all of those things and so they you can have 10 or 15 different balcony cabins all selling at a different price here's what it's called a B B is in Baker Baker for balcony that's a great cabin that's usually the one that I stay in if you buy directly from Princess cruises today 4,284 don't let that throw you off it's a two week cruise that's about the price of a if you if you cut it in half it's about the price of a one week cruise in Alaska you know 42 84 for two weeks in a beautiful balcony cabin

the very same cabin the very same date the very same cruise everything the same but if you buy that particular cabin out of our group block as long as we have it it's not 42 84 it's almost half price 24 51 so what's really means by booking the group discount that only Morris Columbus has you basically have two people for the price of one buy it from Princess 42 84 buy it from Morris Columbus same cabin same cruise same date 24 51 I also give you a word of caution at a lower price about 300 bucks less you can get a balcony cabin but within the obstructed view don't do it I mean don't do it an obstructed view means as I discussed earlier that you have a balcony but it may be partially obstructed or fully obstructed or fully obstructed and all you're going to see is the orange paint of a lifeboat or some other structure get a full unobstructed balcony now if you want the inside cabin there's no right or wrong I like the balcony cabin we have some days at sea you're crossing the Tasman from Australia to New Zealand some days at sea in Ozzy and in New Zealand I like that balcony sit out there with room service or something just enjoy the balcony

just enjoy the blue waters of the South Pacific but other people say hey listen Larry I'm not going to spend much time in my cabin I'd rather save the money and use it for something else and there's no right or wrong that's perfectly legit so here's an inside cabin that if you buy it directly from the cruise line 336360 the very same cabin same cruise same date 1854 almost half price and so my here's my concern is that we're talking about this and snoozing you lose well we'll think about it we want to go all of this and we get a call from Princess Cruises saying we're recalling your space it's gone boom flat out with no notice they don't give us any notice on this sort of thing so I'd love to have you join me Australia and New Zealand including Tasmania you can see a Tasmanian devil down there and I'll be on board we have our own private short scursions and exclusive and private on board activities seminars and so much fun I can't think I'd love to travel with you now if you've done this cruise before so what you know how good it is come back and do it again it's like you only go to Hawaii once no

you cannot go to Hawaii too many times so again the cruise dates February 13 to 26 give Morris Columbus travel call first thing Monday morning now if you already have a favorite travel advisor you have his or her number if you don't have a favorite travel advisor you can do one of two things maybe just call the group department 801 483 63 63 801 483 63 63 and Julie is actually handling this particular cruise now the other scream and deal that I have for you I've talked about this one before it's not just electric it's Toyota electric and during Toyota's easy choice sales event going electric is easier than ever right now safe instantly on a new Toyota EV with special incentive programs for first time EV buyers and prior EV owners choose the sleek busy the adventurous busy woodland or the sporty chr but don't wait these special savings won't last mean make it easy Toyota let's go places and man this one is selling well I'm fearful we're going to lose these low rates it's a repositioning cruise now repositioning means the ship is moving from one home port to another home

port and you don't FedEx the whole ship it's got a sale and the with Royal Caribbean one of my favorite ships the anthem of the seas is currently home based home port in Sydney Australia and coming to our summer it's their winter and the cruise season kind of dies off a bit there no you're not going to get any snow in Sydney there is no other parts of Australia I've gone skiing in New Zealand and on a good day in New Zealand is a pretty marginal day here in Utah kind of icy and but I ski in July in New Zealand it was a lot of fun so the anthem of the seas is going to reposition itself from Sydney to Vancouver British Columbia and start our summer 2027 sailing Alaska and here's I'm so excited about this April 29 to May 7th it the ship will be sailing from Honolulu to Vancouver we visit Honolulu on the island of a Wahoo the big island of a white

we visit Kailu, Okona and then sail out into the vast blue reaches of the Pacific Ocean headed to Vancouver this is a nine day cruise is that just so fantastic nine day cruise catch these particular rates again there I checked them this morning they're accurate as of today and you don't want to don't want to wait because they're only going to go up and inside cabin for a nine day cruise you got your seatbelt on 795 bucks that includes taxes includes your taxes these rates are all per person based upon two people sharing a room for an ocean view which gives you a window or port hall just 865 but here's the real winner a balcony cabin 977 bucks that's less than it for a nine day cruise and what an itinerary now Cathie and I'll be on that particular cruise and we'll be doing private short scursions private on board activities and seminars will be getting together

we're going to have so much fun it was really cool about this so we leave Honolulu now Cathie and I are going four days early yeah we're going to hang out I mean we're going to leave from Honolulu why not spend some time there I know people who are going a week or two early visiting other islands we're just going to stay on a Wahoo and we've got some wonderful things planned out for that four days before we before we cruise but we're going to cruise after visiting some Hawaiian islands to Vancouver then the ship as I mentioned starts the Alaska season what about this we got a bunch of people doing it you're already there in Vancouver why not stay on the ship stay in your same cabin if it's still available for Alaska and enjoy an Alaska cruise there's no additional airfare because you're still going to fly home from Vancouver now I'm going to tell you something looking at the rates today on Delta it is outrageous the cost of a one way ticket from Vancouver to Salt Lake I have and maybe this will change I mean it's up there like 700 bucks that's ridiculous

I have found lower fares on Alaska Airlines with a change in Seattle or Portland more and we come back I'd love to have you join me Hawaii to Vancouver here on the travel show Hi I'm Larry Gellwicks to get away guru and your host for 35 years here at the travel show do I have a great job or what you know people ask me all the time Larry when are you going to retire I always have the same answer tell me what people do when they retire and the most frequent response is they travel and I say oh well I'm doing that now why would I ever want to retire I love travel I'm just a hopeless travel junkie I get giddy just getting so excited to come to the studio here you know the travel shows is syndicated on 19 different radio stations the wide audience mostly here in the inner mountain west

so we had a great show some of you used the Salt Lake airport and if you want a great off airport parking discount go to the parking spot dot com the parking spot dot com pre reserve your space and take advantage of some really good discounts what's really nice about the parking spot is they pick you up at your car no offense to the economy parking lot at Salt Lake airport but you park wherever you can find an opening and you have to schlep your own bags to the pickup center well that's one thing in the nice weather wait till it's raining wait till it's snowing wait till there's ice everywhere go to the parking spot dot com now in the last segment I had mentioned that that Honolulu to Vancouver nine day crews April 29th May 7th with rates starting at 795 bucks by the way those rates I gave you is when the cruise line you say I want to balcony cabinet they selected you pay slightly more if you want to pick your own cabinet which I always do what I said to you is

you can will arrive in Vancouver what a gorgeous city I always like to rent a car and drive up to Whistler the site of the Olympics but Vancouver itself a clean city exciting city or you can just fly home or spend a couple of days there what I think is really appealing is staying on the boat and do a one week Alaska cruise really make this an incredible event the rates for the Alaska crews are really good rates start at just a thousand seven thousand forty nine you could do it inside cabinet again I prefer the balcony you could do an inside cabin from Honolulu through the islands to Vancouver and then a one week Alaska cruise for less than two thousand dollars per person oh my gosh what is that 60 that would be yes an eight day seven night crews so that would be 17 days that is insanity I go for the balcony anyway think about that private shore excursions all of that I want to remind you that Morris Columbus travel is offering a special conference discount whether you listen to

or not and friends are not go it doesn't make any difference they've got a whole line of faith based tours to the Holy Land to LDS church history go to Morris Columbus dot com scroll up to Morris Murdoch escorted tours click on faith based tours now you know one thing we have a we meet Morris Columbus travel has a Holy Land group and we're leaving with Dan Hone on Monday they'll do Jordan first and then and then the Holy Land people say is it safe I would leave today we have some soul other fall groups Christmas December 26th departure groups and the next spring and to me the the great thermometer the great barometer is is it safe has to be sponsored by the church of Jesus Christ of light of the saints they are very conservative very image consciousness and I say that as a compliment but do you think they would put people there at the BYU Jerusalem center if they deemed it unsafe well the students

in the semester programs return to the BYU center in January however they have Jerusalem alumni tours you know people who participated in the BYU Jerusalem study abroad program even decades ago they call them Jerusalem alumni they have tours and will be in Israel this month the summer had students and alumni tours so I mean people are going back and you know nothing's guaranteed in life but if BYU and the LDS church are putting people there right now I'm feeling pretty good about going I'm going today I absolutely would go today so something to think about well give some thought do check out the website morris Columbus dot com morris Columbus dot com if you have the telephone number of a favorite Morris Columbus travel advisor then you've got just call him or her direct if you don't have a travel advisor then you can call 800 this is so easy to remember

800 triple nine 46 46 800 triple nine 46 46 if you'd like to talk to the group department direct 801 483 63 63 801 483 63 63 63 and don't forget the Utah fall travel expo October 17th at the Davis conference center in latent free admissions we'll see you there it's not just electric it's toyota electric and during Toyota's easy choice sales event going electric is easier than ever right now safe instantly on a new Toyota EV with special incentive programs for first time EV buyers and prior EV owners choose the sleek busy the adventurous busy woodland or the sporty chr but don't wait these special savings won't last we make it easy Toyota let's go places
