Welcome to the Pat and Aaron show 95 seven W D A E coming you live on a Thursday morning. A good friendy and beckles will be with us for the eight o'clock hour. We'll talk a lot of bucks football today as they get ready to try to find their first victory of the season on Sunday against the Green Bay Packers with Jalen Daniels at quarterback, but the Tampa Bay rays have their opponent, the New York Yankees last night
taking care of the Boston Red Sox 9 to 2 interesting game because it was close throughout five innings in the Yankees ahead to to nothing after five. And then the Red Sox get the weird home run at the top of the inning and the in the six. If you didn't see it, it just grazed over the fence and there was a Yankee fan who caught it. And there was some discussion about whether or not it should have been a home run, but they went back and looked at it. And it was so then the Red Sox right back in it. It's two to one and then in the bottom of the six, the Yankees said, nah, we're going to take the series. They put six runs up in the bottom of the six. And that was it nine to two 18 to two and two games for the Yankees over the Boston Red Sox as they get ready to come to tropical field on Saturday and get their asses kicked there and both games, the bats got going late for the Yankees. It's, you know, people wake up today and they're, oh my gosh, I fear the Yankees.
And you should, you should fear any team at this point that gets through that first wild card series. The Padres look good against the cups. They dominate how about you respect the Yankees? Yeah, but hold on. This is what I'm getting to is Pat is every team is writing momentum that just played in the wild card series. You look at the podres go, my gosh, they are dangerous. You look at the white socks. Oh, look at them. Look at them emerging. We'll get some of the white socks stuff in a bit. That braves Philly series. They're going back and forth. That's, you know, that's, that's the only one that's going to go to another game. The teams like the Yankees, you're not talking about the raises being dangerous right now because we haven't seen them for a couple days, which feels like forever. We're talking about the Yankees being dangerous because we just saw them. One of those teams is going to be on the winning end now. If it was a core, the recent sea bias, the problem here, that's it. I mean, we're looking at recent sea bias. You can respect them like you said. You can respect the Yankees by respect them more than I fear them, which is kind of my point. Like you start the show saying we're going to fear anybody coming out of the wild cards
and it's like, well, are we? Like we're going to see what they did. And yeah, they played great baseball against the Red Sox team that just hasn't been playing great baseball lately. And certainly isn't pitching like the rays are. You don't think Ray, I think recent sea bias and the field, I'm just going by the feel and what I'm hearing from people and they're like, oh, God, the Yankees look good. And that's it. Like you can be confident, Pat, because I am. I think the rays are going to beat the Yankees. I think the rays are better than the Yankees. But what we do in sports, in the sports world as fans is we react to what we just saw. And we haven't seen the rays. We've seen the Yankees. I'll use an example. The biggest rays fan self proclaimed in the country is ringing out. He's right there. It's freaking out Sam Cohen his birthdays on Sunday. Sam, how do you feel about the rays against the Yankees? How do you feel about the Yankees right now? Um, I'd say worried or concerned. I mean, everyone talked, everyone talked about how good this, this Red Sox pitching depth was and how, how good totally was in sunny gray, who was absolutely using the sticky stuff
last night and just didn't get caught for it. But that's a side note. And then you just saw what the Yankees did to their bullpen after those guys get pulled. So there's injuries in the raised bullpen. So it's certainly a little concerning. You're going to need Wells back. Who knows about Mani Rodriguez? Like they're going to have to figure it out because who knows if judge will be back and I don't know that they even need judge at this moment, which is a crazy statement. I'll go the other direction. I don't know how many innings the rays are going to need the bullpen on Saturday night because you want to talk about recency bias. Here's a little bit for you. Remember the last time we saw Drew Rasmussen? It was to clinch the American league east in a game at Yankee Stadium where he went six and two thirds and gave up one hit and struck out 11 Yankees. That's the dominance I'm thinking about. Not what I've seen the Yankees do are the Boston Red Sox in recent times, but what I saw the rays do to the New York Yankees with Drew Rasmussen on the bump as he will be Saturday night for the rays.
What about that recency bias? What about Drew Rasmussen being nails against this very Yankees lineup on the 22nd? Yeah, it was a while ago and you have to worry about rust a little bit, I guess, but I had the stats the other day. And did you guys use those yesterday, right? The stats about the teams that have gone on to have that first round by in the playoffs. They're nine and seven. The teams that have that first round by and after before last year or six and six last year, exactly. So I'm very confident in the rays and I'm not I'm not fearful. I'm not concerned or worried. I respect the Yankees and I know they're good enough to beat the rays because when you get to this point in the season, everybody is good enough to win at all. That's why we're here. But there's no fear for me and I don't think there should be for fear for raise fans. I don't think game one, I'm not even remotely concerned because I have all the faith in the world in Drew Rasmussen.
Game two as it sets up because I think we're going to get Garrett Cole and game one and he's been better since coming back from injury. Game two, you certainly have to be a little bit worried after watching what Cam Schletler did in game one of the Wildcard series. And then game three, you're probably going to see Max Fried who was nails last night. So game one, I have zero concern about. Do we get nervous Sam in the playoffs? Is that what it is? Oh, it's three hours of gut wrenching. Like I'm going to crap my pants because it was just you the other day or last week, whatever it was talking about how well this team has hit Cam Schletler this year. I almost pulled the Sam coming on that one. But yeah, remember Sam the other day was talking about how well the rays of have hit Cam Schletler. And I think the fear and kind of what I was talking about with recent Z bias. We watched Cam Schletler go out there and throw 10 strikeouts, dominate, look ready for the moment in the playoffs and that will add a little bit of a more fear to you. Absolutely. Makes you sit there and think, good Lord. Yeah. And then you see rice do what he's done.
Lumbar produced for that team. Do it in a couple games where we haven't seen the rays and do I think the rays are going to win the series? Absolutely. I do. But it's scary to see what we just saw from the Yankees and the Bronx when you see Schletler go out there and do what he did. Max Fried, do what he did. This Cody Belinger guys coming up with big hits and by the way, have you noticed we haven't mentioned one name Ben Rice. Aaron. I already mentioned Aaron judge. Yeah. Aaron judge isn't even a part of the equation right now. And I'm going to have to assume because he was jumping at the bit to be a part of this wild card series. It's going to be very hard for the Yankees to keep him off that division series roster. Yeah. And listen, he'll be a guy that has power and you have to worry about and the lineup without question, but also guy to your you said the other day, right? Like coming off of injury, who knows how ready he's going to be or how right he is. And he's not. He's not as scary as he usually is. Agreed with that. And because Aaron judge isn't as scary as he usually is the Yankees to me are as scary
as they usually are. And it's a team with very good pitching. It's a team that can hit the ball even without Aaron judge, but it's a team we saw the the race play really well against this year. And I think it carries into the playoffs. I think they can do things that the small ball and some of those things that other teams don't do to keep even a guy like Cam Flitler a little bit off balance. I would agree with that if they didn't have a Ben Rice doing what he's doing this year because he's taken over. He has become that guy that is reliable to hit home runs, 40 home runs. And that's how the ranger going to have to do strike out the Yankees because they swing and they miss a lot. They also had a lot of home runs. Yeah, Uncle Rice has been ridiculous, but it's funny you mentioned Aaron judge on the Dan Patrick show, which you can hear right here on 957 WDA after the Pat and Aaron show on the Dan Patrick show yesterday they had Joey Vato on and he was asked about Aaron judge. He's an analyst now and he said if he can't play now, he's clearly not going to be useful throughout the entirety of the playoffs. If they do happen to go deep into the playoffs, so Joey Vato doesn't even expect them to
bring him back necessarily. I love Vato as an analyst by the way. Why? I just was watching him a little bit yesterday before one of the games or it was the day before whatever. I don't know, but the last couple days were a blur from me. And he just, he almost seemed nervous. Like it was like before the game, they were sitting in the booth and he just, it's, he seemed uncomfortable to me during the discussion. Like I was like, I don't, I don't love this. Maybe it was just a moment. I don't know. Every time I've seen him, he's been pretty solid. Yeah. Love him as a human though. Hello, he's great. And then the way out like his last year and how he was with the fans, he was just so much fun. I can't wait for Saturday. That's for sure. We do have an opener tonight though. The Tampa Bay Lightning on the road in New York against the New York Rangers will open their season tonight. So we don't, we don't have to wait for Saturday for Tampa Bay sports, but just for the race playoff series, which again, I can't wait for. Have you decided, Sam? What you're doing? Because you can't, as we found out, the race aren't playing at 330. You can't do both. Are you going to the lightning game?
I will be at the lightning game. No, I couldn't do it. I couldn't do it. So how do you watch the race game on your phone with my phone? Oh, yeah, it's going to be on one of the main channels or watch in the club at the lightning games. And I'll be TV anyways, don't you? Even if it wasn't national, no, I know it was, but Aaron said like, it's time, but you either way, you could have watched. I don't know how people I watched. I have spectrum and I have my spectrum apps. So I'll watch on my phone. I'm not exactly, but you also now we're talking about the race playoff. So I get that, but like normally, if the regular season game, you still have MLB TV as well, well, I have that for the Mets and all the other stuff that I watch. Like watch for the race. I watch every other. I'm watching everything in Major League Baseball. I'll have Mets on, I'll have everything on. Then my main watching is the race because I'm watching the race every night. That's on spectrum. That's blacked out on MLB. Yeah. Huh. Yeah. MLB blackout rules are so odd. It's very, because like I have only the race on MLB TV thing you can buy and then you
get just the race. It's very odd. So Aaron having full on MLB TV has to then pay an extra charge for also the race. No, I have, I have, well, I have spectrum. So I don't have to worry about it. You would have to otherwise. Yeah. You have to pay an extra for the league pass for the for the race single. Yeah. For the same boat Aaron. Yeah. Very weird. But for me, I love having the MLB package because I can have multiple games on whatever I want to watch. Plus the next day, and I know you can get this anywhere, but they do such a good job of like putting the condensed games that I like to watch all the games around the league just to kind of see what's going on. We've got a couple of three and no teams in the league. A handful of three and no teams in the league. Also, some, as you know, oh, and three teams in the NFL, who's most likely to continue their trends of playing great or bad football will get into it next on the Pat Aaron show.
