England are finally back! According to Luis de la Fuente, a win at Wembley would be his greatest achievement as Spain manager. I think that’s what he said…

Today, Marcus, Luke, Jim and Pete are here to preview that game. Plus, we learn why Oli McBurnie idolises Tony Montana from Scarface and Jim’s got an innovative way to trial whether drinking in view of the football will cause issues.

England faced the European and World Champions at Wembley tomorrow. It's Friday, 20th September. I'm Marcus Speller. I'm Luke Moore. I'm Jim Campbell. And I'm gonna fuck it up. Oh, you rebellious little joby. Hello everybody. That's Friday. I'm delighted to hear that it's Friday the book of September. I'd like to do it again. No, no, no. I like it. No, no, no, no, let's do it again. No, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no. I'm doing it again.

It's Friday, 25th September. I'm Marcus Speller, and I'm not a good gamble. I get sorted. I love it. I want to start. I want to start. I'm going to start. I'm going to start. I want to start. I'm going to start. You're going to start. You're going to start. I want to start, I want to start, then you drag us back. I do drag you back, because I think the date admin, although I'm never quite clear as to why we do it in the intro. It doesn't mean you want it to say it. No, it's not. You brought it in many years ago, I campaigned against it. You can put a little bit of trivia in there instead. Alan Sheerah called Scar 250, probably goals or something. On the 25th of September. Yeah, instead of saying the date, make it useful. Alan Sheerah punted Neil Lennon in the head. Yeah, unbelievably. Yeah, took a swing at Roy King. Yeah. But it's by the way, very low percentage play for Alan Sheerah. I think it was a bit of a hard man himself on the Sheerah. Sharp Hellbo. The King, Alan Sheerah adopted the darkness. King was born in the year. I respect it though. You got to respect that sort of swing, surely. Because you know the consequences are going to be bad. Do you think he thought the King would respect it? Yeah. And therefore he'd easily be alone. Yeah, it's sort of like on your first day in prison,

you're supposed to take a swing in the big dog. Kiss the biggest guy. I'd love to see Jim do that on his first day in prison. Is that what you're doing? So we met. Yeah. I was just working there. In the library. I've heard you've been called a screw many times. Now England versus Spain tomorrow evening. The long way is over. England, the Bang way is over. And what could have been? Yes. I'm still angry. I'm still angry. I'm still angry. I'm still angry about the Argentine again. To be quite right, Anthony Gordon and the manager are not doing anything to make me any more satisfied. I felt instantly angry on Wednesday when I sat in that show over there and at the talk about England again. I just kind of crept up on me. Thomas Tukal and I are the only people trying to push this on now. Thomas Tukal hasn't watched the Argentina match again. Which is an incredible thing to see. He did. He watched it with Daniel Starridge the other day. Did he? Yes. Not all of it. He just watched Highlight. Starridge looked everyone went. Now we've watched Highlights of the previous games. We're watching all of this. Yeah. Let's call that a little bit.

A little bit. Yeah, he's open. He's got a lot of doors. You're in there for three hours. You're going to watch all of it. Mark, why should he watch it? Why should he watch it? Why should he watch it? Because you can learn from your mistakes. Exactly. I've told you so many times. I heard he re-watched it and to make it feel as real as possible. He got Anthony Barrett who did a half time comment. He came in and then run off again. That was very good. Like a Bachelorette kid. The brief highlights of Anthony. He's got his play. He's got Anthony Berry. Yeah. A lot of Anthony's in England set up. Well, two specifically. Yes, this is a huge one. This is a huge one. And I can tell you this, that Louis Delafone took toll journalist in his presser, that minutes, he said just minutes after the World Cup final and the celebrations, just minutes after they began to cool off, he said, one of his senior players who he did not mention came up to him and said, Mr. Now what? What's left to win? And Louis Delafone said, I replied, bloody hell, the game against England at Wembley on 26th of September. Is that true? What? It's got... It's got the whiff of Jake Humphrey, that, hasn't it?

Big time. Do you not think he said bloody hell? What was the last time I said that? What is the source for this? Well, Delafone to himself said it. He said to the journalist in his presser, do you know what he says? Louis does everybody deserve happiness? Yes, he does. When he says that, well, we should find it at Wembley. Be crying with Davina within a month. Louis, can you get Jamie Oliver to appear on my show? You seen that meme? No. Where, oh, yeah, he wants to. Jake Humphrey really wants Jamie Oliver to come on his show. And so he makes an appeal publicly on Radio X with Chris Moils. Right. And the next guest is Jamie Oliver. And they played a whole thing to him that the N.J.M Oliver just goes, no. Ah, get out of the way. Get out of the way. I'm just like, did I? I only Friday Jake Humphrey dig from us. Yeah, it's Friday. It's Friday. It's par, par, par, the court. It is par, yeah. Well, look, Spain have been looking forward to this ever since they won that World Cup, apparently. It's the big who? And we're the big who? Yeah, I mean, if they really, obviously the Spanish sides, you know, in the late Nautis and

early teenies or whatever we call them, one, three tournaments in a row, this Spain side, they're on 2 Jim, but winning at Wembley against England, I think, would feel like a trophy. Yeah, I think certainly based on what Mr. Delif Wente is saying, it seems like they're gearing up for that. And I wouldn't be surprised if they do win at Wembley. The good thing. If you've stuck your neck out. Yeah. You're back in the European and World Champions. I've fought with Nations League Champions as well in the European and World Champions League. Yeah, I suppose that's it, isn't it? The Nations League did not exist around that time, so that's what the Mr. probably should have said, because that's another one to stick in the Spanish trophy cabinet, isn't it? Another one, yeah, but as I said, they've won it before, but this would be three in a row. There's no doubt about that Pete Donaldson. No. Well, you can doubt the importance of it possibly, but you can't doubt that it happened. Has it ever had such a panor show in them the way? They have show in them the way. I like the idea of the Spanish player going, oh God, Wembley's an absolute fortress. So let's have a look back when he lost timing and lost the way. You're a guy who got a draw. Japan got a win. Japan is for the World Cup.

Yeah. That's it. That's it. Fucking Rincestus as well for a memory. Well indeed, but we have someone on the inside, Antony Gordon, of course. Right. Agent Gordon. Agent Gordon. David Niven as James Bond. Lovely reference. Well, Barcelona's Andy Gordon said England should stop trying to replicate Spain. I had no idea we were trying to replicate Spain. But it was great news, that's it. Well, it was. It was. It was. Was that the instruction? Was it? They just didn't really like it. We've had heat waves. We have exactly the point. We have a good, we have a good, we have a good, we have a good, good, good, good, good. Ways of food are getting smaller. Crips are getting poshier. Yeah, we are. So we're nearly there. We just need to, uh, to carry on with the football. Then we'll be all right. And he said, yeah, in Spain, he's timing Spain has made it in realise, just how different the two countries approached a football really are. Something that I think we all knew for a while, but over there. All right, all right, fucking gap, yeah, put it away. Yeah, yeah, right. I look even there. Actually, you're being a Thailand, you're used to the chopsticks these swear. Is he got jesus respectful? Is that the gold and got dreadlocks? Yeah, that's the dreadlocks.

They're the acoustic guitar. We don't need Eddie Sheeran this time. It's going to be out of the league. No, no, no, no, no. This guy's not going to be here in this climate. Why not? He's not just happening. What about Maclamor? Yeah, you can imagine him. You can imagine him. Maclamor. That currently is Maclamor. He's friends. He's friends. It's not his Maclimor. Maclimor. I'm just owed an apology by these two. That's an L more myself. I know exactly how you say. You'll never get one out of him. No, I know. No, he's not. Because you've set it up in the wrong way. Have I? I've got very much enjoyed that. The only time I've ever apologized is when I decide I want to. That's how they should work. Yeah, well, I'm not going to have to make me apologize. I'm alright. Yeah. It's very happy to wait. I'm very happy to wait. Yeah. Yes, it was Andy Brassel that informed on you by the way. What's it? Yeah. Andy Brassel of Rant. He says Rant. Now, you've told me what they said on another podcast. I'll say it out of me. Yeah. And Hank belongs on their faces. Well, look, anyway, enough of the bollocks. In the end of them. Spain are playing at Wembley. No, you need to lost bollocks. And for all nice. Well, but Anthony Gordon said, you know, as a nation, we don't have the strength like the Spanish

do in controlling games. It's not in it. So I'm sure it's, I'm not sure it's something that could be taught because again, you're a fucking liar. Yeah. You can't be taught. I know. I know, these players play in teams that do exactly that. I think it takes such an enormous holistic approach, which Spain took, is, I think you're battling against so many things. I mean, even, I know it's a really good. It's a really good garden then. No, I'm understanding his position. Gapier Garden. I'm understanding his position because even people talk about the weather influence is how, you know, one player football. There's such a huge thing here. But he did say, you know, maybe we, we're English, we have our own strengths, which they don't have some, maybe we should start playing the way that we, that we good, which is of course, what to say before the world cup. Let me ask you a question then. I'll ask the, the panel, illustriously assembled panel here. Is there more than one way of controlling a football match? Yeah. There's more. Winning one, yes. I would say there's more than one way to play football match, would you?

I think far too often people can flake the idea of controlling a football match with how Spain play and a million passes. Possession, right? Because it's the most obvious way of controlling football. Sure. And it's obviously been very successful for them in recent years. But the, the, the problem for England has always been that it's not all, we don't play the same way. Spain is that we've had several opportunities. Certainly since we've been doing this show and way before there probably, maybe, maybe if it wasn't quite as homogenous then, but we've had lots of opportunities nonetheless to develop a stall of our own and we just not done it. And the problem is England always seemed to end up a day late and a dollar short. Every time a tournament happens going, oh, actually, well, what happened was in 2010 is that we were a bit shit. Germany had loads of young players and they're really energetic press and Spain had amazing Tiki Taka football. So what we need to do is one of them. And by the time we get round to doing that, it's moved on again. They've developed, yeah. It's moved on again and it comes back round again. And so this stuff happens. I remember Jack Wilshire saying this 15 years ago.

Jack Wilshire was saying a variation of this and he said at the end of it, because he got quite a lot of stick at the time, probably from us. He said, we need to realise what we're good at and stop trying to be whatever analysis. We need to realise we're good at tackling and running a lot or something like that. And he got the rider for it. The point being that it's a tradition of English players quite regularly or English managers, whatever. Looking outside and going on, we can't really do it. We need to find a way of doing that. And actually what they could do is understand that there's an amazing football tradition in this country and perhaps a slightly different way and develop our own style and our own way of playing that would play to our strengths. Now there's been some move towards doing that because of course we've got St George's Park and we are now, I think we can all agree for all England's faults. We develop in players better than we have to. In a much better place. Yeah, the technical level has risen because of these changes. It's also risen because football has become a lot more homogenous now. We are developing players, which is a massive part of it. Back in the day, it was really difficult.

It seemed for England to bring players through because there was no unified vision for that. But there's still no unified vision for style and there's no continuity between managerial eras either, which is also a massive problem with it. So Gordon said another thing, which I thought was quite interesting, which was, we as English players are educated the same way as the Spanish players. We know how to keep possession, but it's the decision making of certain players in Spain. I look at some of the decisions they take on the ball sometimes and think, I'm not sure how you've seen that. Now, to me, that does just seem like really that is a coaching thing. You know, and it is just getting used to that playing style. I'm not sure that, I mean, obviously Gordon knows more than I do, but the idea that we cannot ever be as good as that seems fanciful, really. It might take 50 years, but I don't think it's impossible that England could play that way one day. I also think a big, sorry, I also think a big difference is LaMatteia because so many of those kids are like basically literal children when they're in the camp at Barcelona and learning their trade and Premier League clubs aren't allowed to have a version of that.

I think St. George's Park is a good start, but kind of more of a kind of literature back in the day. Yeah, but unfortunately with Lillyshaw, the guy who headed it up was a long ball merchant. Sure. And a lot of players came through Lillyshaw. If you look at the names, you're going to get a lot of the golden generation. But that's just slightly different, no, because Lillyshaw was the school of excellence where you just got the best players and that's where they went. Yeah. They were just scouted out as the best players and that they weren't different. They were trying to get the players who were already really talented and get them into a pathway to playing for a professional club and for England. But they weren't, they wasn't looking over watching vision of how to play. I mean, I think you can look at Spain and you can obsess over that. Look at the side who have been to back-to-back World Cup finals with, well, you could even say France, but more recently Argentina. The Argentina have a style of play, yes, because they've had Lionel Messi. Look at the shot everyone. But there, that's the style of play. Evil. Evil is effective evidently. And it's sometimes, it's the grit and determination to win and I'll tell you something. The Lionesses have it.

Yeah. The fact is, you know, when they played Spain in the Euros last time round, Spain had a lot more of the ball, but England, you know, Rousseau scored and they won on penalties. You know, they found a way to win. And often that's, that is how you win tournaments. You can, again, you could obsess over Spain and what not. But I understand why, but I think that that when it comes to the crunch, as we saw in a spectacular way against Argentina, the worst example I think we've ever seen in our lifetimes, in fact, probably ever, but you can trace this all the way back. You could 90-70 well come on, I'm not going to give a history lesson. England, you are. England in those crucial moments, they, they, they, they buckle. Yeah, it was a 20-minute identity crisis, wasn't it? It was horrendous. It was a very interesting thing that we lean into the evil idea. No. And they should be doing that at St George's Park. No, I mean, saying against Argentina, yeah. Yeah, I'm sure. Maybe. I just think a lot of these, you know, a lot of the better players in the England squad need to sort of, you know, spread their wings a bit in play, you know, play in different leagues, you know, Harry Kane should move from the English League.

Jal Kwancer should move from the English League. Good belling, I'm sure they should move away from the English League. Trent should, should get some minutes outside of the league. The funny thing is that we, we, and maybe learn other cultures. For instance, the simply can't learn them any other way. Yeah, but we used to say that didn't we, do you like, again, like, half a year ago, a few years ago, we said one of the problems was England, all the players play here. Well, you, you, you missed out in quite a distance, but where, Mark, you missed out Trevor Chalibar, who's at Coleman. Yeah, Mark is a wrestler who presumably will be off in January. But he has been abroad recently. Well, look, again, we can, as I said, obsess all over that and, and so on. So what I would like to bring to the table is a couple of late callups for England. James Garner was a late call up along with Morgan Gibbs White and like Gibbs White Garner had gone on a holiday. And I admire the professionalism of these footballers. Did you see Morgan Gibbs White's wife's Instagram? Yeah, well, they did a little song, didn't they? It's love it. I like it. She said on Instagram that he had been in the hotel for two hours.

Yeah. He got a pay for that. He was walking up the door again. Yeah, why would he be okay? The honor it was it was it was it described as he'd put the key in the door. He'd flown to Turkey with his partner and he got there on the Sunday evening. He flew out Monday morning. I bet the private jet was done. Wow. Yeah. Still in the full. Well, Gibbs White had reached Dubai with his partner. Right. And then, and then he had to, he had to go back. But he is, I mean, for the family, I mean, obviously, they've had a lot of events privileged and we know that. But the family is particularly if you've got kids and stuff. But you are very much prescripted. That's cool. And what you can have, hold on. That's cool. That's cool, isn't it? Yeah. Yeah. And so it's just I mean, I mean, it's a mixed emotion for Ghana because he's thinking, I had you know what? I'm a broad at Turkey, you know, it's the relaxation and so on. But then of course, getting the English call, he was delighted and he was like, oh, yeah. Sorry, love. I'm back on the plane. But he, Ghana, interestingly, I think Thomas Tuchel described him as a little Val Verde when they, when they say, you're compliment. It is a lovely compliment. Yeah, James Garnor was very much talking up the Uruguayan Val Verde.

I like James Garnor. He's good. He's everywhere. He wins a ball a lot. He wins a ball back. You know, he likes to get stuck in. He also plays, you know, good amounts of four passes as well. But when he's played 10 minutes against Czech Republic after this international break, would he think to himself, I probably should have stayed in Turkey. Yeah. I would have loved a bit of back lover. Yeah. I thought you mean, but like for him, though, of course, because he's trying to break in. Right. It's not like he's got 80 caps. No, no. Yeah. And you're at the age where you're probably not going to make the next tournament. And the phone rings, you're thinking, yeah, especially now it's a three week international break. That is some prime holiday real estate. Yeah. I don't think that's happened before. Is it? There's normally just two, isn't it? Well, that's why they're going to the great autumn international break of 2020. After Marcus is vigorous lobbying behind the scenes. We have the great international break of all since 2016. I'm not wielding people power. I'm wielding person power. Yeah. I'm a lot of missionless. I hope we don't get the flash international breaks that you've been campaigning for as

well. We lot of flashing going. Right. What's everyone doing Thursday? We can get a Romania. We can get a Romania. We can get a Romania. They're available. They're a Romanian team together for Thursday. It's an extreme football event. Yeah. Because my climate change. They spell that anytime, anywhere. Yeah. We will be there. Not the 18. Yeah. We're America. Yeah, exactly. There we are. We have English footballers in the back of a big van. Yeah, gently. And drive them over to fucking Germany, get them to play someone. Did you need to swear? No. Fight a bit of time, isn't it? You're a ginger. You know. I was just thinking. It's just right. I was just thinking time in it. Okay. Fair enough. Get fucked. Yeah. Well, yes. England, you know. Fucking England. Yeah. Oh, come on. Don't, don't, don't, don't, don't ruin this for me. That doesn't have to be a negative. It does. England, yes. So Spain tomorrow nights a huge one, Jim. Who do you think England can use to beat up the Spanish?

It's a huge, huge, huge one. Well, it's, it's open in night of the nation's league. Against the world champion. It's a pretty big. It's pretty big. It's pretty big. Even for those who enjoy talking international football down to, to get a rise out of your very predictable co-host. Yeah. It is, I do concede it is, it is a big one. Probably the usual suspects when it will play a strongest team. I would think it will be, I'll be Harold Kane, Judy Bellbell. You know, I've enjoyed what you're doing here. I think you're absolutely right. Jordan Pickford still number one. Yeah, I don't think anyone's putting any real pressure on him. Too early for James Trapford, I would say. Yeah. Do you think his position still, he has his role? He is, yeah, he's now on official backup goalkeepers and he was, it's done well, he's been promoted but I'd be amazed if he started against Kane. I've been like Prince Charles becoming king. Yeah, yeah. Like 70 odd. He finally gets the nod. Yeah. James is still third. Just wants to sit down there. I feel it's more like Camilla becoming Queen. What? Because he's a bit like, is he in the, yeah, he's there. Oh no, he has an official title.

So she is the Queen, yeah, she is the Queen. Oh, right. He is an option on the bench. Yeah. Trent. You think we see Trent? Ah, yeah. Well, that's the, so Luke was renting and raving about the, the right back situation. Well, I just think it's mad how Tuck was gone about it. You don't like it when someone changes their mind or, or... No, it's not that. It's not that at all. Okay. It's just that I, I, I wanted, I was interested in an explanation in which if I may be so bold and perhaps being a bit unfair here was not forthcoming from you, Marcus, earlier in the week. What about explanation about Trent? About why Tuck was behaving. I listed out a situation which I was thought was ridiculous and the fact that he didn't, he, he, he basically left England short for rightbacks going into a World Cup, knowing that would probably happen, end of that plan of player at a position which he then got sent off and obviously England just about got through. And then the mode, the first thing he does when we get to name a new squad for a competitive game is he just name's Trent again. Yeah, but my point is that maybe he's looked at that gone, yeah, I should have done it and learned and put a right back in and somehow that's not a good idea for you.

He should keep making a bad decision. I think, no, I think that he should know that a right back is necessary. Right. This level of football find so he's not like walking into the other late. The never-fuck bike is under 10s, right? I've not done this before, but you make stads pulled out so our coach, apparently we need a right back. So should he or shouldn't you have picked Trent? I think he should have been picking Trent the whole time. So credit to him then. Well done Thomas. There we go. We got there in the end, yeah. You make me do it. You can chemical ally over there. I know the one deno reality. He's trying to turn the squad. He's going to start and I'm sure a lot of people we pleased about that. Yeah, I'm sure they were one of them around this table. And what I did, which perhaps is you because you want him in the squad, he's there. And I, this is going to be a tough game for a low peter. It is. How important would a win be? You don't need to. It's one of those, it's a little bit like the France third place player. I feel like it's the spirit in which they approach this match or about how they actually, how they actually, what they actually achieve in this match is just basically how they pull it.

You want the performance rather than the result. Yeah, because I mean, if this is absolutely, I can't see spend, you know, just overrunning anyone, because they just control games, don't they? They'll just got a lot of goals. I'm sure it'll be like a, if spend when it'll be a two, one or a one, no. But it's very much in what spirits England show in this particular match. They've definitely got to lift themselves. They've got to lift themselves after a disappointment. And they've got to understand now that they're at the start. I've got a really long cycle towards getting it back again, right? Because, they're just like, yeah, that's fine. It's important them to play competitive international against good teams. I think to me, that's the value in it. The value in it is you're not just playing pointless friendlies or qualifies that, 95% of the time you're going to fucking win anyway. You're playing competitive games against other good teams. There is a, you know, a ball at the end of it, which is good. But the reality is that international football runs in two-year cycles in Europe. And we are now at the start of another two-year cycle. We've got to wait the best part of two years before we have another tournament. And the players who are perhaps a bit younger,

but have had experience of what happened that someone just gone. They just need to show that they can lift themselves. They need to be at the evening, kind of, kind of get in there and compete. Do I think they'll learn anything two years out from a Euro's playing Spain tomorrow night? Probably not, because I think things will be so different in two years' time. They don't want matter. But it clearly, in football, you know, winning games is a good thing. So that's how they've got to look at it. I think one potential learning point, though, is Morgan Rogers, as a left-winger. He's been playing wide for Chelsea, isn't he? And it's been really, really effective for the most part. I think Tuku will pay attention to that. Different system, though, Jim? It is a very different system, yes. He's still operating in those spaces in a way that I think he can also do effectively for England. So I would not be surprised if we see that. And I'll be very interested to see how it plays out as well. Yeah. The other area in the pitch deck on rice isn't there. He's going to partner Elliot Anderson. It's not going to be Kobe Maynute, what are you talking about? No, even if he was in the squad still, it wouldn't be Kobe Maynute.

Well, it's going to be Lewis Kelly, James Garner or Alex Scott, because those are literally the available players in that position. But you're surprised if it was if it was Garner, because obviously he was a like... Yeah, I think it might be Lewis Kelly. I do too, I saw that. Yeah. I saw that. It's been very good. Alex Scott has been very good as well. So perhaps those two will kind of share that role. I think the important thing for England is if you remember the 2018 World Cup, obviously that was very different, even though England finished in the semi-final, different than feeling, because we didn't expect that. The England then carried that good feeling into the nation's league and then into the Euros and obviously failed, beaten in the final. But I think what you're saying, Luke, you're right, it's two years away from the Euros, but it's always good to have a positive feeling. It's always good to work out. I just think if you're a player in this situation, not if you're a cane or a sack or something, because that's probably settled or a belligan. But I think if you make the calculations of a player that the manager's going to be the manager for the Euros,

which I mean, it's quite difficult to see in, but apart from some, unless it's some kind of off-field shenanigans going on, he's going to be the coach. You have to be busting your balls to perform, to get yourself in the plans, because what football's like, it's totally ruthless. It's like a totally ruthless meritocracy at the very top level. All that needs to happen is someone to emerge in your position for you to be out on your ear. So they do have to have that motivation in a slightly different way to rather than thinking, do we care about the nation's legal not? I think for them, it's probably quite a slightly different calculation, I would say. All right, everybody, coming up after this, Wales suffered defeat to Portugal. English media typewriter is ready, please. He's going to talk about heroin and guire now. How do you find the last time? He's really shit.

Really? Well, we're back to the football round, everybody. Scottish producer put that in there in England, and into that. It's graceful. It's graceful. It's English. It's that kind of... Pety. It's that kind of propaganda markers, which sees a great patriotic professional at heroin and not in the current England school. It is. It absolutely is. Before we get to the dark, Ron Wales Nill, Craig Bellamy predicted before the game that his side would suffer against Portugal. I don't think they suffered that much actually to be quite frank. Joel Felix always nice to see him. Is it? Do you not think? Yeah, he's great looking fella. Is he? I think he needs some hair product. Yeah, fair. It was a bit like an umi-mri vibe, wasn't it? The Bufon. Yeah, that was weird. Yeah, I really enjoyed that. Too much SHIPP. But do you also get the impression you guys, and this might have been maybe unfair on him, because obviously, we're talking about Scorna winner in a competitive game. But for his quality and his obvious talent, he's kind of shitted out his career. Yeah, I think we should...

He should... He should pull the... Like, pull the situation away. Yeah, bad moves, maybe. I think the athletico move was not a good fit for his talent. I think he's quite inconsistent, isn't he? And I think I suspect he's a really aesthetically pleasing player. But that actually sometimes makes him look maybe a bit better than he is. I just think 26 years old and now NASA. You know, given the fact that he's almost like the transfer fees he's commanded, the way he plays at his best, he's so elegant, like he's kind of fucked it really. Well, I mean, he loves playing with Cristiano Ronaldo, though. Who doesn't? And of course. Oh, sorry, Ramos doesn't. When playing for Portugal, you know, he's been playing with Big Ronny. He started the game. Who thought he scored as well, by the way? Well, yeah, he was marginal offside. That was... I could watch that ref telling him. He was terribly, terribly, terribly bad. He's colourless hair to look young. If you're familiar with it, the Creed Broughton in the US, so it offers very close to the printer ink. Yeah. I think what we should do actually to get some views is talk about Cristiano Ronaldo,

and then what we'll do, especially because we're talking about something where it hasn't quite gone well for him, you might say it's a failure. And then what will happen is the coolest people on the internet will flock to the comments. Absolutely. And that'll feed the algorithm. And it'll get loads of attention. That'll take 10 minutes off Chris R&P. Yeah. I guess that's what we're doing now, though. Two great athletes. Two globe-straddling athletes. And while they're there, they can also question why on earth did we bring up Mussolini's grandson playing for Latzia? It's still going. What's on still going? It's still going. What I'd really pay for in terms of a subscription is for Portugal games. It's just a Gonsha la Ramos can. So when the manager finally says to him, OK, get warmed up. It's just the exhale of him. Yeah, here we go. He came on a Mr. Chancel, didn't he? He's got to help himself. He does have to help himself. Yeah, I mean, Ronaldo, it's just, it's just, it's the most football past. Yeah, yeah. But like everything he does, which doesn't quite happen, it's the right, we're used to the tantrums. But the tantrums back in the day were, you know, I've scored 800 gold.

I'm betting everyone has it. How on earth does that happen? It must be the fault of the turf or something. Yeah. And like there's a degree of sympathy thinking this man is just one of the most phenomenal footballs. That has ever walked the planet. And like I said before, unfortunately, he pisses on his own legacy because he's such a div most of the time. I mean, though, I'm impressed that he's still getting in the position. Oh, no, but that's the thing. I think the goal was pretty, you know, good. I said, no, it's fine. He wasn't off by a huge amount. But he's a desire. His desire is that one of the things that I actually oddly admire the most about the man. Is this not the whole thing as a circus because he wants a thousand goals? Of course it is. But the bottom, but the bottom is a fast jumps. Is he like 970 or something like that? He's not far away. Yeah, it probably make it then. Yeah, just kind of lie a lot of friendly. With lick and nail and sand marino and fair. I do it. Do it in Saudi. We haven't got worry about it. Then we haven't got a bad tension to it. No, I'm fine. But he, you know, again, like for a 41-year-old, he's absolutely specimen. And, and you know, he talk about all that. But the way his tantrums are now, it's just, mate, you're just a little bit older.

So therefore, you know, it was not a bad effort on goal. But don't like look at the turvours if, oh, well, the groundsman's to blame on that. And so again, I'd like to watch that million times. That's my icky guy. But it's just, it's sand in the egg time, though, isn't it? Every time he misses a chance, it's like, oh, I thought I only got so many of these left. Yeah, yeah, yeah. Let's be honest. He is still, he's still going, yeah, I doubt I've fought you on the World Cup. You know, four years ago. But the one he missed off his ankle from like six yards out was a bad miss. But you know, how much percentage of his brain look? Right now he's going, can I play in the next one? Oh, I would say majority of it. I would say majority of it. Because it's going to be important for a part of it as well. I think it's incredibly bad timing for circumstances, especially bad time of him. Yeah, yeah. If it was the euros, then probably 100%. 100%. 100% is right, is it? Yeah, but I think, in fact, he probably will still, I think you look at the euros in your fancy. What he needs for him to carry on is a neighbor that's right.

So he needs enablers around him, like a magical pick him, a Portuguese F.A. behind him. Do you think he's jealous of Messi in that kind of respect? Well, the other thing is called built around him. Messi retired from in such a foot for about 40 times. Yeah, that's one of the most proud moments. It's one of the proudest moments in Chile and football history when they won the copper America retired Messi. He's still talking about it now. Pete, do we have any evidence that he's jealous of Messi? But I think also it's a really big move to be the one who basically gets rid of. It reminds me a bit about when Steve and Gerald was Liverpool. There was a period of time when his promise was one great. And we were told, was Kenny Douglas who came in for a period. Would he be the one who could be able to do it because he's such a Liverpool legend, like King of the Carp and all the rest of it? With this, it takes a big brave manager to come in, put a mark down. Almost like when Steve recurring did it with David Beckham and he called back fire. So you've got to be careful. But the Portuguese are hierarchy in their federation.

They know that Ronaldo brings in a lot of money for them. And 100%. And you know, in a country where... Which is also enabling him. Yeah, well, of course it is. But look, they did win the game, Portugal with Ronaldo. For me, Marcus, Ben, David's burst in the ball. Yeah, that was good. That was something... That's how you do it. You know what, I felt like chips come out. Yeah, there you are. I thought it was interesting the way that passage of play went because it's down in Wales' half by the touchline. It was on Neto, wasn't it? Yeah. And he burst the ball and he basically stops and goes, well, I look at the balls a bit, a bit naked and Portugal, and they nip in and then it becomes obvious. Right. And I thought, if that was just a slight burst. You tank it. Yeah, like you would say, well, I booted it into the goal so hard so that should stand. I thought you'd just knock it out of play. But I think that should just be in play until it goes out and then you get another ball. Yeah, keep it like, make it a bit straight. Like the match in Bed Nobs and Broomsticks. Yeah, why not? It's a good one. It's their mark of league. Everything should go. What happens, Marcus, in Bed Nobs and Broomsticks for those of us not...

If you're actually in Bed Nobs and Broomsticks? I can't remember it though. I always get confused with Chitty Chitty Bank, but I remember that. To the right football scene. I remember that scene. Well, the ball burst and they all just carry on. Carry on, yeah. And it's on YouTube for you. The reason I lost is a lovely Marcus Spiller style quaint reference. Yeah, but that's a long time ago. Bed Nobs and Broomsticks. Oh, of course it is. But Brillian Johnson must go a great goal, by the way. Yes, lovely. And then Waleh. Waleh's had their chances. Yeah, I thought they'd have his way, didn't they? Johnson sort of lifted it over the keeper and it hit the bar. And then there was two players sort of queuing up. Well, Lewis Coomst got the shot away. Right. And Broomsticks. And Broomsticks brilliantly blocked it on the line. How that didn't go in the Wales. Waleh should have scored in the scat. I mean, there was, you see that sort of lack of quality, if you're like in the final third. Even though I think they've got some decent players, but even right at the end of the game, when Keifer Moore charges down the wing, and obviously you want him in the centre, just a simple square. Yeah. I think it was Brennan. No, it was Dan James, who was on the other end.

And, you know, you've got a great chance. And he just knocks it out of plan. It's like, I think Bellamy, you know, Bellamy said after the game, I'm beyond proud we showed a big heart of his team's performance. And I'm like, now I'm off to Burnley. Now, but I get that. They're playing a superior opponent. It's away from home. But, honestly, at the end of that game, I thought, why else should have had a goal there? They're in a position where they're probably going to flip between B and A. Yes. Because they're probably not elite, but they're good on their day. But what's interesting, I think, is the group they've got in this, Nations League, is actually quite doable. But Denmark and Norway, who played out a great game in Norway. So, but you have to look at home games again. Yeah, yeah. Possibly all three of those teams, and we can win those. You think that against Norway? Well, I think, I think, I think Norway are a good side, of course. And they're top heavy, and you know, they've got some good players. But as we saw in the demo, I mean, I don't know if you guys saw it, but the Denmark game was basically life and death.

Well, it's like, in end to end, it could have gone either way. And also, a lot of those Wales players, they're deployed against a lot of them at Premier League. Right. But it's the same for both sides, of course. But it's a more familiar style of football, if you see what I mean. So, I agree. I think, you know, the old cliche, make your home the fortress. Exactly. So, it's the way that Nations League is set up. It's like, there's a lot of teams in there, obviously, because it's all of Europe. So, you do have, I mean, have a said what I just said, what I'm thinking about it, under a quite unfair challenge from Jim there. There are quite a few nations in the different groups in the A League. Which, I mean, it's like, they aren't that good. I mean, like, I think one of them has got, that German-evolence group actually has got Greece and Serbia in it, it would be beatable as well. So, Greece there on Merit, they came up with England. They did. Absolutely. You can't, they want the first game as well. They beat Serbia, but the away from home. But the point, I guess there's a point to make here, there is an opportunity there for, if you're, if you're worse. They're not, they're not been drawn with Germany and Evolence, which I think would be outrageously tough.

I think so, so I think they do need to take heart from the fact they're very narrowly lost away from home against a good Portugal team. And if they can win their home games, it's finishing that top two. Who knows? Who bloody knows? An island lost one little way to Kosovo. Less positive about Ireland. Yes, and they manage your home at Hal Grimmson, summed it up by saying, of course, they deserve the win, if I'm honest. It was, it was a day off for a lot of our players. Ah, there's the problem. Yeah. So you can get to the end of it. So you can get to the end of it. You might mess it up there. Yeah, old, the Grimmson Reaper, not impressed by his team, but there we are. They fight another day and they've got another, you know, 18 fixtures in this break to get it right. Scotland versus Slovenia tomorrow at 2pm. Scotland will play their first game under their new manager, Sebastian Pocognoli. The Belgian is in charge. It's proper like Premier League, Streets won't forget playing. Yes, a real one for the head. Where's your West Brom? He was West Brom from a bit, yeah.

I was at Brighton for a bit as well. Ah, yes, of course. It'll just be strange to see... That's Jackson's name, I've been here. Yeah, we are. It'll be strange not to see Steve Clark in the dugout, as it was when Gareth Southgate. Jurassic Clark. Jurassic Clark has gone. Yeah, he's finally gone. Yeah. Really interesting choice of post-produced. He does move in Heads. Pocognoli, because he did really well at Union, Saj, Gila. Yeah, he did, did very well. Obviously, it worked out so well at Monaco, but he's a young coach. And his stock is high. It's very interesting to go into any international job at this point. So, I don't quite know what to expect here, really. Well, Jim, are you pleased that he's brought Olimin Burney back in the... Oh, yes. He's a rascal. He is a rascal. Five years away from the side. Do you think that... Didn't he say it was shit playing for the national team at one point as well? I think the fact that he... I don't think Clark wants a rascal in the squad. He said, I'll be... Burney said, I'll be eternally grateful to the manager for giving me the chance. I'm more determined to go out there and prove why I belong here.

He's never scored a goal for Scotland. Quite simply, never scored a goal for the national team. He's playing for a good side now, though. He has played... He's playing for good side now. Yeah, but he's not played from since 2021, because, as you say, which is interesting. That'd be a lovely moment if you can get that goal. Yeah. There was, you know, obviously, tactical pieces and whatnot, you know, suggesting how Pocognoli's played before. He likes to back three. He likes sort of a three, four, two, one kind of formation. And there are concerns that Ben Ganondoke, who obviously one of the bright sparks, one number of bright sparks in the Scotland side, may not fit perfectly into that system. But as you sort of say about Morgan Rogers, I understand that there is a difference playing an inside kind of tin roll. I think Morgan Rogers would get in the Scotland side. Yeah. But I... Well, no, he wouldn't, because he's... He's... He can't, yeah, he can't. So one man, we definitely know it's not going to be playing. You know, I'm more likely to be playing. But it's sort of inside, Tane, out wide. Ganondoke, he's obviously more of a winger. So I hope that he manages to accommodate him, because he is one of Scotland's better players going forward.

And... I just think, I just think, you know, speaking of like England's disappointment from the summer and angered me, when I finally came around to international football mode again on Wednesday that I had to talk about that fucking nonsense again. Scotland's... Scotland, you know, a different way for a lot of fans to be thinking worse, because they'll go, we've got to a World Cup, amazing opportunity, a great fucking occasion, loads of others... I mean, I don't want to be a circle of Scotland, because for obvious reason. But lots of small nations had something that hang their hat on at least from that tournament. And we fucking didn't. And we showed in at least one of the games, actually very poor ambition, to the point where, existentially, we were saying, I think at the time, from memory, what's the point of even qualifying? If you're going to... If you're going to play like that, what's the point of qualifying? Some of the selections from Clark, it made it clear that the game was up. You see how darey was for the whole thing. That's just how he is. Yeah, it is, but I think it was turbocharged. You're going around a New Year's Eve. It's a turbod hour. It's actually called Hogmanain Scotland.

As well. Yeah, they do accept New Year's Eve. So, Pong Cognoli is a legal tender. Pong Cognoli's got an opportunity to, it's a totally fresh start. You can put his own stamp on it, like you say, he is an exciting young coach. I think it's quite odd left field appointment. He does a little bit. But it's actually a positive one, because they've not gone after a kind of old war. More of the same. From the Scottish Premiers, or whatever. You know what I mean? Oh, David Moise. Well, he's not going to be available to them. I think he would have wanted him, but he's not available to them. So, to me, it's a real opportunity, but you're best put forward. And actually, what is quite a winnable game. And say, this is how we're going to do it. So, I'd like to see things coming out of the Scottish camp saying, it's been great, it's been a breath of fresh air, it's been interesting. Yeah. Because the way clock ended, it was very stodgy, very predictable, very dour. And they need to get away from that. Yeah, no, all agreed, all agreed. Going back to Olimic Burnif, I may. He said in a recent interview with the BBC, he was talking about a Scarface tattoo that he has on his arm. He's got a tattoo of Al Pacino's Tony Montana. Nice. And he says, it's my favourite film.

I liked certain things about his personality. It's a scene Scarface. Certain things. Yeah, yeah, yeah. He's supposed to be quite redeemable. Yes. Call me a silly old, no you've sought. Well, you've got a bed, not a bruise tattoo. I'm going to have that tattoo. I will do, buddy, in this today. But, you know, you shouldn't be trying to be like Tony Montana. No, no, no. In any kind of way. It's very much not the point of the day. The very, it's very much not the point. It's not the point. It's like people who misunderstand fight club and think Tyler Dürl and his some sort of role model. Some sort of aspiration, not for him. Exactly. At the very least you're going to get some kind of drug bath. Well, yeah, there you go. But my girlfriend like a piss test. You've got Tony Montana. That's really respectable. You're definitely getting one then. Well, Bernie went on to say, I liked the fact that he knew exactly what he wanted. He also said that. Yeah, that is the thing. I didn't even want to say hello to his little friend. Yeah. The four queries is amazing. But it's amazing. I don't condone a lot of his methods. Well, which of his methods do you condone? Well, you've missed a bit out because he says, I like the fact he knew exactly what he wanted. He's a psycho. All right. Well, you, I don't know what to say.

Yeah, I don't condone a lot of his methods, but he knew what he wanted and he did anything to get it. So I think there's something that can be said with that. Have you seen, say a little bit of a little friend? No, I'm not. He didn't pick him. Yeah, I ban and I just met a little friend. Have you seen Alejandro Garnato's back tattoo? No, it's so. It's heath ledger as the Joker. Of course, and it's a full back tattoo. It's really something. It's, to me, you know, there's like that, a lot of that, I'm sorry I'm so excited, it says that a lot of young men's pre-funds of cortexes aren't developed properly until they get to about 25. And it's actually quite outdated that men, a lot of men should be considered legal adults at like 18. That needs to be a lot of intervention and that stuff. But you said that is the Garnato tattoo that that is a classic example of not being a fully developed brother. Yes, has to be, has to be. Well, I'm sending my sympathy. I'm going to follow him and Bernie fences a goal because if he really wants it, he'll go and get it. I've given how turbocharged Tony Montana was as a character. He definitely was scored at least one goal and 16 appearances for Scotland.

Yeah, again, now he's not getting past the drugs testing. But didn't the owner of Hull, you know, he called him a rascal, but did he say he was, he was lively as well. Some of that, yeah, it was a good quote. Yeah, he's not me, he's lively. He's a proper pest. He's a nuisance. I'm saying that Bernie has all the ingredients here to upset Slovenia who will be without their marksman, Benjamin Cheshko. Cheshko, who will be absent for Slovenia due to a recurring shin injury. So there we are. Scotland is John McGin play. Big ass. Nice. Great big ass. Big ass. Yeah, it's a shame it's not on a Sunday for obvious reason. Yeah, yeah. All right, coming about after this, booze at the football could be back. We're good. Chesh in. At Edward Jones, we believe Rich is more than caring about the latest and greatest.

If Andy Burnham's got something to do with it, the prime minister of this fine country described a ban on fans being allowed to drink alcohol in the stands during men's games as discrimination saying he didn't think it was fair for football fans to be singled out. It must be a cheeky Vimtor. You have to have a cheeky Vimtor. Peter, do you feel discriminated against? I do. I think it's a discrimination. I think it's a discrimination. I've seen a lot of stories. I've seen people all over this. Should you be making rules for 2026 from 1980, whatever it was? Yeah. On a fatter.

Yeah. Always it. That's it. That's it. Is there people with a drink? You're starting to stand by something on an Emmy. Jimmy, you fall the ban still? Well, I understand what Burnham's saying about the weekend. Why do you hate this country? You're making a so-called one of those. So you like my calm and held people. I understand what he's saying about the discrimination thing, right? But there's a difference in scale between football and other sports, right? Which means that you're just... The attendance is much higher in total. So there is... There's a likelihood of more incidents. But I do actually kind of agree with what Pete's saying. I think... It's not the manner. Yeah, it has. I mean, basically, have people changed so much in that time that this will be less of an issue. I suspect yes. I think if there's a trial for this, it will actually probably... Probably be fine. Well, but this is it, isn't it? What you need to do is you need to trial it in a really, really contentious game. It's some sort of high stakes, derby way.

It's had me all the way. Exactly, right? So you can't predict when these flashpoints are going to happen. So if you're going to do a pilot scheme, which is what they're talking about, you need to like, rile everyone up. But you can't... But you can't... But you can't... But what's the... What the... What the... What the... What the... When days were doing here, you can't conflate people not being able to drink in view of the pitch to people not drinking up for the pitch. Sure. You can't just be like already always drinking it. And they overdrive beforehand because they can't drink for the whole. And I feel like the under... We can all have our view on, you know, I've seen a lot of people online talking about how it'll be annoying because people will be getting up all the time to go and get a beer and all the rest of it. And I think Jim's right to say that, you know, it will probably be a trial, growing it as a pilot scheme and a section of the stand or some like that, some games. But to me, the fundamental issue is the principle of it. Like, A, it's a 40-year-old law, right? Yeah, 1985. Yeah, and B, football fans, because of, you know, over... Sorry, she's more than carefully here, but...

Football fans, because of a certain impression they gave, in some cases rightly so, during the 80s, under a Thatcher government, they have been discriminated against ever since, right? When compared to other sports, and it's not that helpful to compare between sports. But the reality is, no other sports fans have been treated in this way. And there's no other sports fans have behaved the way football fans, is an argument, you know, immediately to... But there are so many, but there are so many more football fans and there are any other sports fans in this country. Exactly. And therefore, the problematic element of them will be bigger. In the 80s and the 70s and 80s, really, of course, it was a gigantic problem. I mean, the scenes were shocking, but there's a number of reasons for that. And no one's denying it. No, no, no. What I am saying now is, it has to be... To me, it has to be rectified as a matter of principle, because it's not... It's discriminatory against football fans, and it's not been revisited, and it should be revisited. It should be revisited. Totally should be revisited, absolutely, because I need to update it. I need to look at what... I need to provide some kind of law, whatever it looks like, this relevant to modern life.

That's very least. And therefore, you know, to me, anything beyond that's kind of academic, I know it could probably be annoying for people, but you know, you can go to the theatre and people are drinking and talking all the way through it. It's fucking annoying, or the cinema or whatever, it's annoying. We don't ban people. No one says you can't drink a beer in view of a cinema screen, or you can't drink a beer in a... In fact, they used to have a ban, I think, at theatres to not drink alcohol or torture in theatre performances. And they got rid of that ages ago. Well, you know what, actually, the IMAX though, the fancy ones. You're not allowed to leave your seats unless to the toilet. Sure. You know, so they stop people doing that, I suppose. So you want to get tanked up before we leave. That's what I said. I mean, I would do that. I think the two worst alcohol around incidents, in terms of people over drinking, I've ever seen, kind of football, was one was on the way to Spurs a number of years ago, or as a guy who was so pissed, he literally fell off the tube carriage. And that's before the game started. And the second one was in the Liverpool Everton semi-final of the FA Cup, whatever year that was.

The other semi-final was Spurs Chelsea, I forget the year. And there were about four or five fans wandering up the ramp up towards Wembley Stadium. Before the game, anywhere near start. Well, this is show piss. So you know, they couldn't get a five-year stadium. When you got to the Wembley, the people were doing this anyway. I was like, the amount of like, all boys were absolutely trolley and getting turf out of Wembley before when you cast on one of their first carabalers. But it's almost like the argument of... It's almost like the argument of pub times shutting, you know, if you extend the air as people go, or people are going to drink longer and so on, well, actually, you get that less sort of binge-drinky effect on the top. No, and also like, if they really had the stones and the resources to improve behaviour at football, actually, you'd have drug dogs at the door, you know what I mean? So like, that's... They do. They do, Kroven Cottage. Do they really? I have aied them every time. You get Ellie Coppton in though, you know? Yeah. Because football is the drug and that is allowed. I think there's an argument given that, you know, we mentioned earlier, if there are going to be flashpoints, they're very hard to predict. I think perhaps should there be a pilot scheme where drinking is mandatory for everybody?

Yeah, that's not the right one. Yeah, you can't add an empty container at any point. So you're going against the wanky rugby stuff. Everyone should be double-parked. Yeah, absolutely, absolutely. I mean, there's a lot of people around here that wouldn't know it's a difference. Oh, wow. Forward, sit. Well, St. Paul, five words in a week. St. Paulie, dark fruit strain. And just everyone gets to have a pilot of dark fruits. Yeah, okay. Strong dark fruits. I also think, you know, when I say that the band should be lifted out of principle, I don't mean that, you know, it wouldn't be a problem. It might not be a problem. I think there probably will be a few problems with it. But to me, it comes down to the right of people to be able to live their lives. And that shouldn't be discriminated against because they're football fans. I think it's up to the clubs and the stadiums, probably individually, to police it and have to work out how they're going to best do that. And you might even find that if there's regular issues, individual stadiums

or clubs might decide to change things around. But a blanket band, to me, feels, it just feels discriminatory. And I'm afraid. Yeah, really. And for every problem drinker, I mean, I remember the story about, I don't know, I've been covered on the show, but a number of years ago, and Bromley got promoted. Obviously, they're in league two now. Well, they're league one now. They got promoted again. They're in league one. But when they were a non league team, I used to go to Bromley a little bit. And there were a load of old boys there who pissed off at the idea of Bromley getting promoted. Because they're social thing. They go there a few beers, watch the games. One of the things people like seeing the Bromley side. And there's plenty, and the vast majority of people who consume alcohol in this country aren't problem-driven. Well, I think if someone's going to be a problem at a football match, this is not going to have any kind of effect. And it was described drinking alcohol in view of the pitch, a major contributory factor in violent and disorderly behaviour. I'd be surprised if that was true. The facilities at stake. There's so many other reasons for it.

So I agree that it is very, very outdated. In fact, maybe even the idea of it was a bit knee jerky at a time when there was a lot of stuff going on. So I appreciate that. I think that you're right. I think the people who would be against this idea, I think it is about that annoying, potential annoying fact of it. That's no reason. And the idea of, you know, like you see in box parks around the country, people chucking their points in the initials. Yeah, I think the points will be so bloody expensive. I think people are not chucking their points anyway. In the reality of it. The problematic people at football these days are full of cocaine. Also, you do see measures that are taken with, you see like a big doubt, like a meal will rest down again. That was a lunchtime kickoff, right? Because they want people to get totally tanked up. And then those times, they drink a little bit. All phone games are always 12 on a Sunday. They are. But if you see a big diary like that, social media is full of clips of people just getting up really early and getting pissed. Like because they just do it, they just find a way. You got to admire it anyway. People will find a way. Yes. And I also chuck in there that,

I know you want to rack up very, very quickly. You want to rack up. Anyway, no. We all got to rack up. We're not a stadium now. It's right now. But don't forget, every single club pretty much with a few exceptions outside the Premier League are financially on the bones they're fucking asses. Right? Yeah. So it would be an opportunity to actually make some more money as well. If people want to spend it. So that's also a good thing. Right then everybody, we've reached the end of today's show.
