About this episode
Genesis tells us that when Seth named his son Enosh “mortal” men began to call upon the name of the LORD (Gen. 4:26). The contrast is deliberate: man is defined as frail and dying, while God is revealed as YHWH the self-existent, eternal “I AM.”
To call on the name of the Lord is far more than religious language or sentiment. It is to know God as He has revealed Himself in His Word, not as we imagine Him to be. True faith begins by admitting what man is and worshiping God for who He is.
The question remains: are we calling on the Lord by His name, or on a god of our own making?
