The Healy-Rae Dynasty Under Fire | Belfast News

The Healy-Rae family of Kerry has dominated local politics for over half a century, building an enduring legacy through tireless service, deep community ties, and hands-on leadership that balances farm life with legislative duty. Their story is one of grit—Michael overcame severe dyslexia with the help of a teacher, and the family navigated personal hardship, including their parents’ separation in the 70s. But their political power was tested this year when brothers Michael and Danny, usually independent, aligned behind a new coalition—but tensions flared after Danny criticized the Taoiseach, forcing Michael to resign just before a no-confidence vote. The fallout could reshape the next generation’s path, yet their unwavering connection to voters and sharp political instincts remain undeniable proof of their lasting influence.
