I thought, you know, the numbers were staggering about the lack of success they had against the blitz when we've said it forever that you can't blitz Dak Prescott. You just can't. He'll figure out a way to make you pay. And guess what? In the end, they never really got it. They got into a little bit of rhythm there on the 99 and a half yard drive. And then the ensuing drive, of course, that entered in the tip ball. By the time, by the time they got a little bit of a beat on things, there's two. Then CD Lambs not in the game and Pickens looks like he might have heard himself a little bit.
By the way, do we have an update on CD at all? Because that's a quad and said it was a quad bruise. He said it would be fine. He'll be fine. Okay. Okay. Bruise is not a pull like he did. Keep running out there. He played. Yeah, he tried. But you couldn't have guessed in a million years that after last week's game that CD Lam would, you know, have as few catches, two yards, nine targets. Can't remember how many the targets were, but nobody could have guessed that. And again, you know, you credit Tampa. But Dak was off early. Yes. The throws were now where they need to be and he missed that big touchdown to CD Lam. Yeah. And he would normally hit that. Right. And, you know, that's the thing about all quarterbacks missed throws. It doesn't matter who you are. But when the Cowboys do it, it seems like that there's just so much more that surrounds it. And when you have an offense that almost needs to be perfect, you know,
Tampa scores 24 points should have been 27. Could have been 31 easily if they would have gotten a foot. And there's your 30 point barrier. And so to keep having to play that way, to keep having to have games where, you know, you're, you're, you got to be perfect. It's so unfair. But it's the reality of Cowboys football right now. And so when he has a game where he takes a couple of steps back, there's that one throw to CD in the first half when he got flushed out of the pocket. And kind of buried it in the dirt, 20 yards in front of CD. Where it looked like if he just put a little air underneath it. That's a touchdown. Okay, that's the touchdown he missed. Yeah, that was weird from, from, from, from DAC. So, but I know you talked about the third quarter, but just the, the middle two quarters. Yes. The fact that they went punt, punt, punt field goal, half time, interception,
fumble, turnover on downs. Yeah, brutal. That, you can't have that when you are the unit that's supposed to carry this whole team. Yeah, and that's, that's, I would say this is Dex. Worst game of the season. But I would also say. There was so much bad about this game across the board that, yeah, he shares in the blame. There's no doubt. I, I would like to see the game without two interceptions going off. Receivers that should have caught them and should have extended those drives. So, I'm not in any way trying to, you know, be a defense lawyer for Prescott. He's, he is going to have some games that aren't as good as the other ones. And then last night was no exception. And he would like to see that offense bail out that type of performance. But once they start, once they start turning the ball over, it is so over.
Because there's almost no chance the defense can ever cancel out those turnovers by getting the ball back. They just, yeah, they did force a three and out after the touchdown and the fourth. Yes. They, yeah, they, they've, they get a few stops. They just can't get the ball. I, I don't know where you at on the two point conversion decision. I mean, I get it. I feel like that, you know, we've seen it enough now to where I, I understand the rationale behind it. I don't agree with it. I don't agree with it at all. I don't agree with it in this situation. I understand it if you're doing it, but in the context, if you put everything together last night, it doesn't make sense to me because I understand that the analytics say that it gives you a better chance to win the game because you're trying to win it in regulation. But you're making it that much harder on yourself just to get to overtime. And see because you're having to convert one of two, two point conversions. At the very least. Well, on CD was hurt.
And I think that changes the math. Like I don't, I get it. You're confident in your offense and we're the best. But you're not the best and you weren't the best for the majority of that night. And then you're missing your biggest weapon on the outside or on the inside, depending on what you do with him. And I just think that that was reckless. And I also think that when you're down like that and you're fighting from behind and you're scratching and fighting in Claw and you just go 99 yards and that you're setting yourself up for failure at that moment. I just think it's time over time. I think it's time in place and I just didn't agree with the time nor the place. I would say, I would say it smells of desperation to try it. I would say I've seen the math. I've done, you know, I've taken the course. I understand the concepts and I understand it does increase your probability of winning slightly. But it also smells of desperation and the type of thing you might do if you're a 10 point
underdog and you're trying to steal a victory. If you're at home and you're a favorite and you think of yourself as a the best. The biggest favorite of the week in the NFL. Yeah, it just that that's really not for me. And I got to tell you the second they tried it, I fully expected because it's the Cowboys that the way this game will end is they will score what appears to be a game time touchdown. They will need a two point conversion. That will fail and that will make the decision all the worse. Now we've seen it work. In fact, I've seen it work a couple times. I've green Bay does it. Philadelphia does it. Detroit does it. So those are sort of the three teams that have really leaned into analytics over the years. I don't know what the Rams thought is on this. But the more cutting edge teams and this is not a new concept. What's weird is every time it's tried. It's like we get everybody asking why are teams doing this and it's been kind of happening
for almost a decade in the NFL. All that said, I get the idea that it's probably something you only want to do if you are purely in desperation mode and I just thought. You can't rubber stamp it anytime and every time. I don't think. There's got to be some sort of nuance and feel. I just felt that the feel of that was weird. Yeah, you're robbing yourself of momentum. You just marched all the way down the field and you have reasserted yourself in this game after they left the door wide open for you by not taking the field goal. They made a coaching blunder. They let you back in the game and then it's like not that you took yourself completely out of it, but you made it a hell of a lot harder. And sure if it works, it works, but it didn't. I would say that leads us to our other conversation which is since we declared the honeymoon over two weeks ago. Two weeks ago.
Are we getting to the point where Brian Schott and I were and Christian Parker are already approaching a hot seat? I can't imagine that Jerry would demonstrate such little patience. Well, I guess if the wheels completely fall off, then he has no choice. I mean, it's only been five weeks for Christian Parker. It seems incredibly unfair, but we've got to stop getting our pants pulled down scheme wise. It can't be an every week thing where it almost feels like the league is sort of laughing at the X's and O's on this defense. So let's say it's this bad, which is worst in league bad. And we're after Thanksgiving and you just see nothing. You know, we're seven more games into it. Do you, I just don't think they, you can't pull the trigger then.
Well, okay, so we sort of have established that Jerry Jones is not a I fire guy's mid season. It has happened. Wade Phillips and Lambo as Lambo Beckins next week left on the tarmac or whatever it was, probably not fully true. They probably flew him back to Dallas. But that was a team looking like it quit completely on Wade and they did do him mid season. Let's ask it this way. Because if you would have asked me this question three weeks ago, I would say 100% Brian Schottinheimer is your coach week one of 2027. As we sit here today, that's dropped substantially, right? Well, his his window, and I think we said it from week one was two years. Yeah, it was after this year he has two years left on his deal. But his window of like he had a two year window to get it right. And if he didn't, then he's probably gone. Probably a two year window to make the playoffs. Yeah. And last year was year one. Yeah. Okay, so if he doesn't miss make the playoffs this year, we,
and it looks like this. We are leaning in expecting that they have a new coach next year. Oh, yeah. 100%. I think I think I'm with you. Yeah. I think I'm with you and the weather turns fast. And of course, if Shottie's gone, you should imagine your coordinators are gone too. Well, it depends on if they go the controllable low cost route, or if they bring in someone that wants to hire their entire staff. Yeah, well, that's. I mean, the Jerry Jones way is. Jerry's still in our lives here. Here are your coaches. I've already got all these guys under contract. So hopefully you can work with them. Yeah, the next thing in the life cycle is Jerry overpays for someone else's successful coach again. And we go back down that path. And maybe he pays the going rate to try to get somebody's coach. I guess what I'm just establishing here is that the vibes are not immaculate with the Shottonheimer and Parker campaigns.
And as much and as likable as he is and his honest disease, speaking of Shottonheimer, you reach a point where all of that just sounds like crap, like super hollow and has no meaning. And the communication skills are through the roof with this guy. And again, we all like him and we wanted to work. But the leash is not long for a guy that's never been a head coach before. That's that age that'll never be a head coach again, by the way, which adds to the list of cowboy coaches. Mike McCarthy is the outlier here of just getting very hired, getting hired after the cowboys. Right, right. He's not going to get hired. It's getting to the point where his dumb visor is torquing me like Garrett's clapping. Like making you mad. Yes. Yeah. No, I agree with you. And now it's the press conferences just sound like dude, got to do better. So we're going to do just shut off. We're going to do better. Just fix things. Going to look at the tape. Yep. We're going to look at the tape and then we're going to do better.
Yep. And you know what? It's fixable. That's what I tell our guys. It's it starts here right here with me right here. We just can't. I'll take ownership. Look at me. Like I do I do know how the city spits people out and just you know at times people get crabby and they why do you call time out there? Why do you do you know and and some of the nitpicking is insane and ridiculous and over the top. But honestly, I think just about every week this season, we get on here and we're like WTF about this. What is this exactly? And that third and twenty one man yesterday. That's insane. It's insane Tampa Bay even tries to convert it and it's insane. It worked against a seven deep coverage. Same with that. Yeah, it's twelve of the minute left. I mean, it's the same thing. It's like they they didn't expect that they would even try. No, I couldn't believe it. Why would you try that? You have a guy that that's completed like 14 passes in his life and you try that because
it's the Cowboys and that is an indictment on that entire operation. That play. Yeah, that's I mean, that's why they went for the touchdown instead of the field goals because it's the Cowboys. I mean, you just saw and they saw it. They just saw Derek Henry get stuffed at the one inch line. And that's all I'm thinking at that point. If I'm that coach like, you know what, we'll live to fight another day. Let's go up three scores. Who cares if I catch flat from the guys like always should have gone for it. Right. I don't give a rip. We're up three scores with seven and a half minutes to go. I mean, that again, that was a fireable offense. They try to give it to you.
