The Black Spy Podcast

Season 2, episode 0006

'The Troubles, The IRA, Spycatcher and The Australian Prime Minister – A sit down with veteran Panorama and World in Action journalist and producer John Ware'

This week's Black Spy Podcast brings listeners another great opportunity to delve into the secret world, this time with veteran ITV, BBC and press journalist/producer and author, John Ware, specialising in national security, Irish terrorism, espionage, politics and police corruption.

John explains his journalistic connections with IRA and loyalist contacts, as well as Special Branch officers from the former Royal Ulster Constabulary.

John also speaks of his efforts to get former senior Security Service officer Peter Wright's best selling expose, 'Spycatcher', off the ground. He and Carlton examine the security service and the British government's attempt to prevent Spycatcher being published utilising an Australian court.

John recollects his 'battle' with Peter Wright's solicitor, the subsequent Australian Prime Minister, Malcolm Turnbull.

During this episode John also delves deep into the dirty world of secret intelligence during the Northern Ireland conflict, from the 'loyalist', Republican and indeed the security forces perspective.

Amongst many other issues, state collusion and the role of 'terrorist' agents are also placed under John and Carlton's microscope.

Listeners will enjoy this sit down with John, as we take the show back to its truly secret roots. Hold on to your hats, guys and girls, whilst the lid is well and truly lifted off the secret world.

This episode will be released on Monday 15^th of November 2021
