I want to get one of the 405 coffee break guys get you cup of coffee glass ice tea or bottle water let's see what's happening springley $6.41 a bushel $550 steercaf top end right now $4.45 a pound and $100.00 fine lemon billing $3.10 to $3.15 a pound dependent on their condition but guys there's more much more I'll start right off with a Bible verse for today from Galatians 5 verses 22 and 23 but the fruit of the spirit is love joy peace patience kindness goodness faithfulness gentleness self control against such things there is no law again Galatians 5 22 and 23 yes the fruit of the spirit
but today well I'll speak of another fruit and if you listened yesterday you know that fruit will be the banana yesterday I told you about my uncle Carl in 1966 he was serving our country and he was over in Vietnam I told you he wanted to do something special on Christmas Day that he could not do back in Phillips County Montana so what did he do he picked a banana on Christmas Day well when Carl told me this story along with his story of brushing his teeth in Vietnam using slits beer I found both of those stories so favorable and memorable that I went on eBay in order to the old slits beer can and also found on eBay a Christmas ornament that was in the shape and color of a banana why because in Vietnam my uncle brushed his teeth with
slits beer because you couldn't trust the water and I bought the banana ornament to commemorate him picking a banana on Christmas Day I did it it was fun my uncle appreciated it and well life goes on right that happened about two years ago well anyway on Friday morning just last Friday I pull up a YouTube which is one of my favorite pastimes and I enjoy watching old clips from the Ed Sullivan show and I pull up the mom is in the poppies live on the Ed Sullivan show from 1967 well as I'm listening and more importantly watching I see one of the band members Michelle Phillips singing up there on stage on TV and as she sings she has a microphone in one hand in a banana and the other really yeah pull it up yourself guys she takes a bite of the banana right during the song on live TV
well my mind instantly goes to a movie that I liked and it's called the producers by Mel Brooks and a stoned out hippie dude wanders on to the stage in the movie and he says his name is Lorenzo St. Dubois by my friends call me LSD it's a classic Mel Brooks humor well LSD sings a flower power song and at the end of the song he too has a banana and he peels it throws the meat of the banana aside and clutches the banana peel in his hand as he sucks his thumb now remember I saw a member of the mom is in the pop is eating a banana and here's LSD clutching a banana peel and that's a curiosity to me so I go to my friend called the internet and I type in was there a banana something back in the 1960s guys I found out
that in 1967 remember that's the summer of love that in 1967 March the underground counter cultural newspaper Berkeley Barb published a famous prank article claiming that smoking dried banana peels could get you high it really did happen but it was a hoax it was made up because the man was coming down on them for everything and they thought they'd give the man something else to chase I found it just like I told you oh it blew up the smothers brothers you can pull that up to they sang a song about the banana mad magazine had their January 1968 magazine with what a bright yellow banana peel on the front cover in fact the FDA even spent money to test it out of course they found that it did absolutely nothing to you but maybe give you a
headache now when I find these kind of things from the past it fascinates me greatly I think mom is in the pop is that takes me to the movie the producer that leads me to find out about the great banana hoax of 1967 so I get to my office last Friday morning and I love these kind of rabbit trails especially because I have someone to share them with you on the radio so I get to my office and I'm thinking the banana and I'm not always real bright when it comes to thinking and suddenly I think huh didn't I send something to my uncle Carl what was it that I sent my uncle Carl hey wait a minute I sent him but the banana Christmas tree ornament are you kidding so think about it or even always likes to know sequence of events what came first what came second
now realize a sequence of historical events my uncle picked a banana on Christmas day in 1966 in Vietnam in 1967 and there's the great banana smoking hoax you got to be kidding me of course I had to call my uncle Carl on Friday and of course he didn't know anything about the great Montana smoking a great banana smoking hoax of 1967 but it is a fun sequence of events from my perspective it's just great and a grand coincidence and that banana story again tied me to my uncle and that isn't all bad what about that then so until next time as you go out there remember now don't be bitter
