Hello, Texans. Welcome to the show. It is a big Thursday night program. As always, I'm your host, Mark Vandermair with John Harris and the general is with us. John McClain, the Hall of Famer, as we get ready for Dallas Sunday noon. It's on. It's another meeting at Reliance Stadium with the Texans and the Cowboys. It harkens back to game one. It harkens back to the spectacular Sunday night or in 2018. It harkens back to Monday night football. A couple of years ago in the Texans dismantled Dallas up in Dallas. Well Arlington. So here we are. Texans, Cowboys and the Texans are row and three. General, your thoughts, your feelings, your vibes going into this game week four with the Dallas Cowboys. A I'll call it a virtual must win for the Texans, meaning not in fact, a must win because must wins really mean you're eliminated. They're not eliminated at 0 and 4, but nobody wants to see that. Good evening. What are your thoughts? Each time the Texans play the Cowboys is special to
someone who grew up in Texas and was a die hard Cowboys fan to like into Houston and got an exorcism. It means a lot. And I like to see the Texas win. I don't have anything against the Cowboys. I have something against all the Cowboys fans who used to them. I like them to be devastated. And I talked, I picked before the season, both of these aims to win their divisions. I picked them to be two and one when they came in to this game. So obviously neither one of what I know. And so it's still special. But every time they play the Cowboys, I always think about what you mentioned the first game that franchise history and what was the special time that was in Houston and South East. It's the Texans could win this game. And you don't know how either team is going to react. The Cowboys gave away a game in Rio to the Ravens. And in Texans, basically, gave away a game they could have won and
should have won at Indianapolis. But if the Texans could win this game, then they'd play the Titans next week. And they'd be two and three before they'd play Jacksonville. And right now, Jacksonville is the class of the AMC South. But I think it is a must win game. You know, the only O14 that ever made the playoffs was the Chargers. I think at 91 or 92. So it's virtually impossible. Couldn't they win this game? Of course, they could win this game, but they got to play a lot better, especially when it comes to the running game and the offensive line. Okay, general. This one thing in your opinion has to happen for the Texans to win. It can be anything. But what one thing do you say, you know what, John, these Texans have to do this to make sure that they walk out of there with a W over Dallas. What is that one thing? They get John, they got to run the ball better. And they have not run the ball
well. And the fact is, when you have a quarterback, he doesn't have a running game that the defense asks for respect. It affects the whole passing game. And because they're not kept off ballot. So I would say, you know, asking for a hundred yards is not a big deal. But I think they got to rush for 120 130 like they did in that first game against Buffalo. And David Montgomery score three touchdowns to Rushing. I think they have to run it because you would help keep the Cowboys defense, which is that special off balance. It also would help the Texans control the plot and keep that press got his great receivers on the sideline. What else about that Houston defense versus Dallas offense matchup general? Like press got seven touchdowns, one pick off to a really good start. Statistically, the record is clearly not what they wanted to be, but they've got a lot of dangerous weapons. I'm looking at Ferguson. You look at pick ins and CD lamb. They've got a lot of ways to
hurt the Houston Texans. Your thoughts on that matchup. One of the most positive things is saw it in the refinement chip. Made some plays now after that terrible first name and he's used to going against Cowboys twice a year. He knows all about it. I would expect the secondary because they're going to get pressure from Will Anderson Jr. and Daniel Hunter will at such an incredible performance. And in the in theapolis, I'm surprised the offensive guys could look him in the eye. They need to have that kind of performance in this game and get after that press got who is mainly a pocket pass or he can move around. If he asked to and but I looked at the defense which played better in the loss Cincinnati, then it played better in the lost Indianapolis. I expect to be best play even better in this one. And if they do win the game, I think it'll primarily be because of the defense. You know, I killed to Nico Ryan's to have a plus
three in turnover differential and lose game. That's not going to have to much. Well, the last time the Colts won a game when they were minus three, the Texans weren't even I don't think they were invented at that point. They were even a squad. It was 1999. The Colts winning a game at minus three. But in that game against the Colts general, the Texas did not have Nico Collins. It is trending in a positive direction for Nico Collins to play on Sunday. I don't even know if we can measure how much but I'm asking anyways how much more important is it for the Texas to have Nico Collins and what he can do against that Dallas secondary. I don't think he would be brought back to practice. He wasn't going to play in the game. We've seen Nico have this injury before and missed four. And all you have to do is look to Buffalo game to see what he brings to the table. When Nico's not in, they don't have anybody that has to be double covered. There I have anybody that's defense has to worry about making big plays. Well, I got to worry
about Nico Collins and his on field with four was CJ Stroud is playing very well. And I think it makes it tremendous difference as one fewer players, they can devote stopping the run when they have to double Nico with a safety state. Yeah, I look at CJ Stroud general. You just said he's playing very well. We're three weeks into the season and nobody likes the record. It is awful at 0 and 3. Yet here we are with CJ Stroud playing well. It's not really because of him. The national narrative is still out there when they see the Texans lose the game. What it's Stroud not do. Look, you can always do more, but clearly he's off to a pretty good start here. They just have to play well as the squad all around him. And yeah, maybe he could make a few more plays, but he's not the problem right now. Absolutely. He's not the problem and one of the things I like about it is CJ is not turning the ball over and he's running. I wish he would run a little more. The extra careful
about it, but he's run first and first down. And I think that is the vital part of their outfits. To me, the best surprise, the best good surprise is his performance because there's a lot of people holding their breath. The white C.I. play coming off that New England playoff game. And even though everybody said it wasn't an issue, you never know till you see it. And to me, the biggest point is one that is shocking and that would be the offensive line. General, where do you come on on deck, Prescott, as far as his landing place amongst, like if you did a quarterback index or quarterback ranking, where is where is Dak? Do you find him underrated? Do you find that he doesn't get enough credit or do you think, you know what? He hasn't done enough to get the credit of being a top five quarterback in his league. Where do you come out on Dak Prescott? He's playing great right now and he's got the best trio of receivers that he's had that I can remember because he's not controversial. He's not in the news a lot. And you can't be
underrated or under publicized when you're the quarterback of the Cowboys. He's always seemed to be a class act and the Jackson's that beat him before. I believe C.J. has more playoff victories than he does. Is it three or three or two? It's two for Dak. Dak's going to have to win more in the playoffs. Of course, I got to get to the playoffs. If he wants to be up there rated, what does the best of starting with Patrick Malz? Yeah, Dak has two playoff victories in his career. Unbelievable. I mean, we've been watching him play for a long time. Yeah. Drafted in 2016. You taught him at the senior ball at that time. We still have a post in our archive somewhere of Dak saying go Texans and hope to be drafted by the Texans maybe. And who knows where that was going to end up. I taught to Brad Sham, general. And he said Dak is third on his rankings of all time favorite. And I guess the best Cowboys quarterbacks Roger and Aikman. I imagine one and two, but Danny White and Roma were
after Dak. And I guess Dak deserves that at this point, although I think Danny White is still underrated. Do you? Do you, by the way, since we're on that subject, is Danny White underrated in the history of Cowboy quarterbacks? Danny White had a lot of great players around him. But you know what? So did Roger stop back. So did Troy Aikman. Funny how that works. And the greatest, the greatest coaches had great quarterbacks except for Joe Gibbs. That's why Joe Gibbs ought to be rated as the greatest coach in history. He won three Super balls with three separate quarterbacks. None of them joined the All of Fame. And yet all these other great coaches had great quarterbacks. And of course, Tom Landry did and Jimmy Johnson did. And if you got the talent, that makes it so much better. But I don't need friends to tell me. I know he's got stop back number one. Bill Parcell's called and said Phil Sims isn't that good. And Jeff Hustetl is certainly not actually. Parcells didn't say that, but I'm saying that. Yeah. But it's a good point
about Gibbs. I think Gibbs is always under discussed when we talk about the greatest coaches ever. And that era is dominated by the 49ers and the Giants got a couple of Super Bowls in there and the Cowboys and the 90s. But Washington is is definitely in there. They sprinkled three Super Bowl wins in kind of different mini eras along the way. All right. Let me ask you this. Here we go. Big NFL weekend. The AFC South. Are the Giants going to run away with this thing? It's too early. I'm just being overly dramatic here. But you tell me when you think of this matchup between the Jags and the Bengals. Inchidsey on Sunday. Go Bengals. I think this I was stunned that the Steelers beat the Bengals and scored as much as they did. After we saw the Bengals defensive line led by texture Lawrence just embarrassed the Texas interior offensive line. So I think the Bengals are going to bounce back. They're going to win this game. But the Jaguars are good. You know, Liam Bowen has done a great coachy job and Trevor Lawrence is the quarterback. They
drafted in the B. They've got balance. They got a good defensive coordinator who's destined to be a coach and they won 13 games in his first season. And now they're off to a good start. The boy Texas need to beat the Cowboys. And then of course they need the Bengals to beat the Jaguars and they're right back at it. All right, general. Tonight. Amazone Prime game Thursday night. Well, I think this is a good one though, considering how former Texans quarterback DeShon Watson's been playing. It's compelling Cleveland and it's in Cleveland. Pittsburgh, I can't figure out to save my life. They got hammered by the Patriots. Looked awful. Then they turned right around and when it gets the Bengals team that gave up only six to us and they put 30 up on the board. I can't figure out the Steelers, but Steelers and Browns. I know for Ohio fans. This is always a very emotional night. You give the Browns a shot to win this one at home. How do you see Steelers Browns playing out tonight? That's what we've seen last two games. The Browns. Yeah,
they've got a shot there at home. It's their cheap rival side mocking. I'm told that people up there loves Watson. He's the one that made the decision to start it. Over sugar sanders. He's the one that's keeping him and Watson got cheered coming out to field. Send that last victory and he's got to be cheered in this game because they hate the Steelers, but what happens if the Browns go nine or ten and seven? What happens if they make the playoffs? You know, they want to they wanted to get rid of what his behind track is up. He'll want to race. So what do you do? Get him 231 Megan guaranteed. Yep. Yeah. That might be a bargain if you get some to nine and eight, ten and seven. The least he could do is give them a minimal deal. Like not exactly, but like I'll play for 24 you this whole discount. I'll give you a little discount. Really? Wait, wait, so much. You understand who we're talking about here. It's not going to happen. I'm just joking around. General, the Titans are going to play the Ravens. I'm not going to ask you who's going to win that game.
I'm just saying the Titans and Owen three fire everybody. Now, obviously Robert Sala off to a rough start. But here's the deal. Cam Ward. We're starting to get that. Uh oh, did we pick the wrong guy? Is he not him feeling about cam ward? I don't know if that's fair or not after three games into a second year and a new staff, new system, whatever the case may be. Your thoughts on cam ward and the Tennessee Titans and we'll see them next week. People in Nashville are so disillusioned, frustrated with Ward and a great example. He had a chance to win the game over the giants. They had two time outs left throwing the ball. The end zone through a terrible pass. It was intercepted game over and they could have wanted. So they're so down on them. You've got to head coach an offensive coordinator and a general manager who didn't draft it. And they're right now. The worst came to late. And I think in his supposed to be a really good quarterback draft, assuming guys don't stay in school for a lot of NIL money. But,
you know, they've got to play him the rest of the year. A lot of people are saying, then, Jim, get Mitchell, Kadeski and the lineup. And I tell him on my show up there, I said, why would you want to play Travinsky? And you wouldn't say four names. And it takes you out of the running for a top quarterback. You've got to play cam ward all season because everybody's going to have to know, including the fans, the media, the players. Everybody's got to know he is not the guy we have to move on. And if you pull in, you can't put him back because you're giving up on him. So that is an big controversy up there. And it's funny because when War came out, a lot of people liked him, but he's had three coaches in two years, three systems, three play followers. And that certainly had an outfit. General River Oaks Theatre Monday night, I believe it was. How cool an experience was that to watch the opening of the 25th season documentary that our guys have been putting together. What
you think about it, obviously you were featured a lot in that. You're going to get an academy award, at least from me and Mark, for your activities. You were very, very good. But what do you think? What was that experience like? It was incredible. It was an honor to be part of it. I had no idea they're going to use as many quotes as they did, but it was a privilege. And I had to admit, I was sitting next to Mark Verme and I told him all that stuff about Bob McNair, Re-Living all that. I got tearsmized and I got all misdiad because I remember so many scenes I was standing off to the side or by Bob and everything he went through to get to franchise. How bad the league wanted to go to LA and how Roger Cadill was going out, Cobb Knobb and Tom Cruise and Michael O'Vitz and all these famous LA people who were sure they were going to get to franchise. And somebody told me when Tagli Booth call Gidelli to come back, it was over and LA was going to throw
in the towel. But we didn't know for sure until October of 99 when it was announced in Atlanta, he got to franchise. But Charlie Gassley, I was Charlie Cadill then there, he was really good, but seeing Bob and Janice of course, but you know, it was Bob's story because nobody, now one person stepped up to try to get a team for Houston. If Bob had done it, we might still, we might need to minor league capital as a world when it comes to football, but it's all because Bob can't wait to see the other three parts. What's the company that Jackson has used to the hustle that didn't? That's what it's called. Hustle Towns studio. So. Hustle Towns studio. They did a great job. I thought everybody connected to that documentary based on that first part did a fabulous job. Yeah, I thought as an episode two general, we watch a lot of docu series, Johnny watches a ton of documentary television and movies and and so do I and I know you do too and
you're involved in many. I thought the story arc was great to end episode one with winning the game against Dallas because it's such a happy ending to the birth of the franchise story. So I thought the way it played out as a movie was terrific and you mentioned it. I think everybody in the building who had any involvement at all. Maybe if you didn't, everyone got emotional. You know, I was sitting next to Hannah on that panel. She was getting emotional because there was Janice. They have a shot of Janice. It Bob's clearly cheering the first touchdown to Billy Miller, but you see Janice right next to him putting her arms up and it's just, you know, we just lost her two, three months ago and you just feel like, oh my gosh, that was so hard hitting to see the McNair's reaction to all their work and on the opening drive, you're punched it in the end zone thoughts. One of the things that and I'm glad they. Of all the things I told them in my interview, there's one thing I hope they used and they did. That was at the end of the game. I was on the sideline standing with Bob
and Chuck Watson is my main minor partner just outside the tunnel where the team comes out and we're looking across the field and Jerry Jones who played a big role in helping us and get the team was been over with his hands on his knees looking at the ground. They can't pull his head. Those was been over at the knees looking at the ground and the fans behind Bob started saying thank you Bob, thank you Bob and it just spread from section to section to hit a crescendo and I look at Bob I said to you hear that he nodded and he had tears on his eyes and all of a sudden the TV people came running over to shoot Bob and I'm getting teary eyed and I told him I got to get out of here. I think we don't see TV with tears on my eyes. So I took off but I was so happy for him. Great story general. Thanks so much for the time as always. We'll talk to you soon. Guys, thank you very much. I'll see you Sunday. That's John McClain. We will certainly see him Sunday at noon Texans and Dallas and we talked about the inaugural game. Is that the biggest
regular season win in franchise history at home? It's something worth discussing. Where are the other ones fit in and how let's weigh that opening win and talk about this matchup and how it compares and the 2018 victory on Sunday night football and anything else that comes along here on Texans radio continuing the program here from the Hyundai Texans radio studio Texans and Dallas Sunday at noon at Reliance Stadium 90M Texans countdown presented by Madeleine Special. This is going to be big no matter what. Oh and three doesn't matter for this day. This is the big one, Johnny. I said this to the whole organization this morning because I kicked off the big day of game prep meeting. You know, because there are a lot of people who work in the building who stage the game and everything. They actually played Omar from PR. Yeah. Played a clip from Ross Tucker who was on with Sean and said. Yeah. Yeah. And Ross talked about welcome to game day and how he thought that was so cool that everybody says it and he goes to every stadium and he says they don't
say this everywhere. Right. And we know this because we go everywhere too and they don't say it. Right. But they say it here and it touched him in a way. Yeah. And it was important that everybody in the building hears this who works on game day because you have so many people. It takes thousands of people just to stage an NFL game. Never mind what the result is who wins, who loses just to put on the show. The parking lot attendance, the ticket takers, the concession people, the people who do all the entertainment. Everybody. There are a ton of people and they work hard to do it. So and it's a pleasure to do it. So it was worth hearing that it was noted that people say welcome to game day all the time at Reliance Stadium. Yeah. Absolutely. And I mean, it's everywhere you go. I mean, it's from the time, you know, I park and teal. We have, you know, a lot of us park and teal, a lot of media members park there as well. And as soon as you got at your car and then you got to walk across Kirby to go through the West Club entrance, it's welcome to game to everybody. Yeah. And it's after a while, you're kind of like, this is kind of cool. I heard Ross say it. I thought that
I thought it was interesting because, you know, when, you know, whether it's a broadcaster who is calling the game or it's a media member or it's just somebody in the suites that day, they're going to greet them all the same way. And I thought that was, that was really, really cool. And I'm glad Omar played that for everybody. I think our game presentation, look, we go around to every single team and every single stadium and we see what it's like in how it goes. Yeah. If you're wearing a logo, this is how you're supposed to treat people in this building. And I always felt like that is something that we take and go above and beyond. So it's pretty cool. I'm glad Omar played that. Yeah. Very cool. So Sunday, there will be some cowboy fans in the building. This prediction, going down right now, the Dallas Cowboy fans live among us. It's invasion of the body snatchers. They live among us and they will surface on Sunday. But we will silence them and then welcome them back into Texans fandom after the game,
after the Texans defeat the Cowboys. This all harkens back to September 8th, 2002. And the forever H town docu series episode one came out today, presented by Reliant. Yep. And it's awesome. Well, we relive that game and we've done it before. I'm not going to do that right now. I'm not going to relive that game, but I'm going to point something out. And I say it in the documentary where this game has its own special place on the mantle. You could talk about the biggest games, the biggest wins and all of that. This has its own category. It's week one game one and you beat the Cowboys. And it's just so epic that you started the franchise that way. Right. And we can talk about the rest of the history, but that deserves its own spot. But I'm here to do this with you, Johnny. If that is the number one regular season game in the history of the franchise. And I think we can safely call it that. Oh, yeah. I don't think it's a question. But what's second? What's third? Because season. Yeah, regular season because playoff games obviously have a playoff game category. But I was going over this and so many of my favorite wins in the regular season
are actually on the road. My favorite wins. I'm not saying I haven't enjoyed the home ones. Believe me. I enjoy them all. We haven't we have had some incredible ones at home. But so many of my favorite ones, you know, we always talk about 2015 beating the coach for the first time there. The one that I football game there that year and beating the Colts week 18 2023 and those huge wins and the bangles and 2011. But I'm going to give you a few here. Non-playoff home wins. Okay. Non-playoff home wins in no particular order. Not obviously we were putting. We're putting September 8 2002 up on a shelf. We are. And that's nothing touches that. Not that's in concrete. Or if you think something possibly could, let's have it discussed here. But also I decided this is a multi category thing because you could say best games. Slash biggest wins, but they're not always the same thing. Right. The best games are not necessarily the biggest correct. The game against the Jaguars in 2012 was one of the greatest games I've ever seen. Correct. But it wasn't one
of the biggest wins necessarily. There's another win in a really great season regular season. But it wasn't the biggest win. The Jags weren't even that good. But Chad Henney came off the bench and he was slinging it and that shot. And second all time passing yards and a single NFL game with 527 tied with Warren Moon actually. And Andre Johnson over time. Catch and run. Boom. Touchdown. You win it at the well, no time. Obviously, we off the no time left because it's an overtime. Okay. So before you go your list. Yeah. Let me let me see how many of them I can match you. You name a few. Okay. The first one that comes to mind. This one's got itself to get through Monday night 2018. Oh, yeah. Against the Titans. Yeah, I have that. The weekend that Mr. McNair passed away. Yeah. Yeah. That one will forever. There's there's so many things that I remember about that game. Mm-hmm. And trying to make chronological order. The Titans, well, people forget,
the Titans took a 10 nothing lead in that game. Yeah. It wasn't going well. Right. And before the game, the Titans went and jumped on the Texas logo in the middle of field. And I remember Taylor Luon being the one that kind of started that. And when they scored, I think it was John who missed scored in a long catch and run. And they went up 10 to nothing. And I remember, I remember walking down because the play happened going south to north. So I was at the line of scrimmage. So I was making my way down to where they were going to kick the extra point. And as I got down there, I look and Taylor Luon is talking trash to all the Texas fans. Like he's pointing up in the stands. He's talking trash. And so the guy that going on, then the Texas get back in it. And the late great Damarie's Thomas. That was his first game in Houston. That's right. He has two touchdown catches in that game. And he ended up being my player of the game. And I remember that's the first time I met him. And we did an interview in the old locker room. We were sitting the equipment staff had kind of a like a service window almost. And we were kind of sitting on the
on the table. And he was just awesome. I just he was just awesome. He was such an awesome guy. And that's like fourth or fifth on a list of things that happened because the Titans come back that after we take the lead. I think it was it's we took the lead 14 10. The Mary said it touched down. We had one other touchdown. We're 14 10. The Titans got a drive. It's fourth and one in the South end. And Zach and B Mac stuffed Luke Stocker on fourth and one. Yep. And I remember we went to a break in the week before Justin Reed had taken one to the house on a pick six. And I remember saying to you guys, damn, man, I wish they could have stripped it away and gone for a scooping score of like, you know, 97 yards or whatever. And kind of joke like, yeah, that would have been fun. And the very next play Lamar Miller takes off 97 yards. And Lamar had been they had been messing with them in the running back room about getting caught. Yeah. He got caught a lot. And Kenny Vicaro's chasing him. And Kenny doesn't catch him. And then Adorich Jackson comes out of nowhere
who ran for three. And almost, but at the end Lamar was able to get past him. And I just thought that was an incredible moment. I thought it was even more incredible the next day because obviously everybody's going nuts. I did not hear what you said because it's so loud. It's so just craziness at that point. And it was so loud. The next day I heard you make the call. That one's for you, Bob. And I just was like, I was sitting here. I was putting together. I was putting their matchup. And I'm putting together. And I play that call. And then a lot of times I don't play all the whole thing. But for some reason, the way I was cutting it, anything, I was listening the whole thing. And I got to the end. And I was like, I just got this frog in my throat. We ended up winning out one 34 17. And here's the one other thing I remember about that game, which is weird. Marcus Mario to completed 21 passes and wrote or 22. It was so weird number. I forgot that. He completed like 22 or something in a row. And that was Brabels first year. Yeah. That was Brabels first year. And 22 or 23 in a row. And he ended up like 24 or 26. We beat them by 17.
Still got them. Yeah. That to me is for everything that was included in that one. I put that one up there for sure. That was part of an eye game winning streak in 2018. And that like the Dallas game, the inaugural game kind of deserves its own category because it was the Bob McNair Brassing game. Yeah. And what a tribute to him. Yeah. I mean, the Titans. Come on. Mr. McNair passed away three days prior and you're jumping on the logo. You had to win that game. Yeah. You absolutely had to win that game. And you've never let them up for air again. Yeah. All right. So that deserves definite recognition. That's definitely. Here are some other ones that I have. Okay. Patriots 2009 to have your first ever winning season. Oh, yeah. That was a big win at the time. It was. We forget about it sometimes, but it was a big win against the 97 because you'd never been 9 and 7 and we left the building walking on air, hoping, hoping that Denver would lose and that the jets would somehow beat the Bengals. Or did we need them to lose to the Bengals? We need
to just lose to the Bengals. But it was a windy stormy night. The jets just laid down and then they won the next week. Yeah. We were within like five minutes of the game. Starlight. Oh, best. And I'm happening. I'm upset at the cults because why am I upset? They rested starters against Buffalo. Yeah. I think it's what we needed something from them late in the season. And I feel like I remember they were undefeated. They had a chance to go for undefeated season. Right. And my thought is if you have a chance to be undefeated, you take it. You go. I mean, you want to win a championship. I get it. You go ahead and make history. I mean, come on. This is how you become unforgettable as opposed to, okay, I want a championship. I get it. That old nine game against the Patriots was a heck of a football game too. It was they were down and they came. They scored three, fourth quarter touchdowns and Aaron Foster went in foster and Bernard Pollard and everybody played well. Yeah, I grew to I liked that one. What about Dallas 2018? Oh, man. I mean, these Dallas games are standalone tent pole events. No question like this Sunday's is. But the 2018 game went into
overtime. We talked about it yesterday. They had hopspins. I mean, this is an amazing game. It was a real phenomenal game. Yeah, it was Dac. I mean, we're playing Dac again. Yeah. Eight years later, you're facing Dac. Yeah, it's amazing. Think about you know what I say about that one. I'll say it real fast. What? It's the hardest hitting football game I've ever seen. Life. I dudes took shots, delivered shots. I saw Dachon. I mean, that was the night that was shot and ended up in hospital because of the shots that he took. I mean, he was diving for the end. So the next game was the Jags on a bus game. The next game was Buffalo. Oh, so he was in a hospital that night. Then Buffalo and then just remember he had that big patting playing with against Buffalo. And it was like, Oh, he got through Buffalo. And none of us were really thinking about the fact that we got Jackson. We got to get on a plane. And then they were like, Hey, we don't know if he should go on a plane. He shouldn't fly. And then of course, that the whole bus thing. And I mean, it was the legend of that. That Dallas game as as hard a hitting game. I should have said, I have never seen a harder hitting game than that one. There were guys getting
smoked in that game from both sides. Where do you put Patriots 2019 Sunday night football? Underrated. Underrated. I think that game, you know, Brady, Brady brought them back and got them close. But seeing everything afterwards of Brady on a sideline just getting furious with his receivers, it's got to be faster. I mean, he was really given to him on a bench and was like, boy, frustrated Brady. And it was the last time we would face Brady with the Patriots. Wow. That it was the last time. Last time. Yeah. Last time. There's still a bit of a problem. Yep. And by a bit, I mean, playoff hard break. That's a good one. All right. I've got another one for you. If you have another one jump in, Bengals 2016 Christmas Eve was a huge win as well. It was not the prettiest play game as Bill Bryan would have said. It's not going to be sent to Canton. It was 12 to 10 Tom Savage barely surviving in this game. Alfred Blue touchdown, Ron Randi, Bullock, Miss field goal at the buzzer. You win the AFC South. That night. It was a magical night
in the stadium. It was unbelievable. I mean, for a 12 10 game, my god, I'll give you one that was not a 12 10 game. Okay. And I don't even think it's recency bias. I think this might be. I know where you're going. I think this might be the best game. Just period beginning to end had everything, everything in 20, 23 Tampa. I agree. 3937. I mean, CJ, you know, was getting all kinds of acclaim that day. Oh, CJ is him. I mean, people nationally were going nuts. He brings him back after Baker has, you know, Tampa played so good to get back in that game. And then Baker throws an absolute dime, dime to Kate Odden. I remember I think it was Henry in coverage. Henry is all over Odden and somehow Baker put a ball where only Odden could get it. And I'm standing there and I I'm in the end zone. I'm watching it. I'm thinking, how do you get that in there? Oh my gosh. And then I remember look at the clock. And I was like, got some time. We're okay. It was like 46 seconds.
It had to be perfect. And it was. And it was. But also in that game, yeah, we had a non kicker kicked to go ahead. Feel cold. I think the fans went berserk when he did it. Which is cool. I think that is something that puts that game in another category. Yeah. That lifts it to the top shelf. As far as best games we've seen at Reliance Stadium. And we're doing this because of Dallas, year one, game one, is that the best game we've seen at the stadium or where does it rank? We all agree. It deserves its own spot. But what is close? I think the Tampa Bay game is close, especially considering the season ended up being so successful. Yeah. Right. First year head coach, first year quarterback, you beat the Colts in week 18. And again, great road win. But we're talking about games at Reliance Stadium. Yeah. The Dore kick in the field goal part of it. And then you were about to lose after all that hard work. But you win. And you pull it out of the hat. That was absolutely amazing. We haven't said his name. But he makes the final two catches. Tank.
Yeah. And it just be in a way. I said this a million times about tank. Because of the University Houston, just because of who tank is people love him in this city. And the fact that it was CJ hitting tank and then hitting him again, it was that that was definitely magical. I got one other one, too. Okay. Give me one. And I think people might and this happens. I remember Brian Billick talking about this one. He Brian Billick was coached 2000 Ravens and the Ravens 2000 Ravens had just this incredible defense. And I remember him saying, look, when when you win games with a great offense and you're really good with the great offense, everybody says, oh, how great a football it is. He says, well, you win great games with a great defense. Sometimes the sometimes people don't appreciate it all that much. I think the defense of performance against and it ended up being a great game against the bills on Thursday night last year, 2025. Yeah. Eight sacks, three turnovers against
the guy who was the runner up for the MVP. I think that game in 2025, the crowd, the noise, the noise I'll never forget. I think that the win over Buffalo in 2025 against Josh, forcing all those eight sacks. It was like another one. I remember just, you know, near the end when it was another sack. I just remember you in my ears. It's another one. That's eight sacks for the Texans. And I just, you know, I'm then Kalen finishing it down. That was one of the better defensive performances. I can never remember, especially because they were doing it in those reds in the battle red and they were doing it on national TV. And the rollercoaster ride that was because they stayed in the game. They had the hook and lateral. Oh, God, the hook and you're about to win the game. Oh, man. You lost earlier in the season week two to Baker Mayfield with the fourth and 10 run. And now, oh, my gosh, the bills are going to do it. They're going to do it again after all that hard working eight sacks. They're going to beat you tonight. No, they're not. So thinking you might lose it and then winning it. Man, this is why we love this game. It is such emotional turmoil.
And when it ends up on the right side of things, it's elation. Yep. Okay. I actually had that down and the bills the year before, which was another exciting win. But I don't know if it deserves to be in a top three top five category. I also put down jacks 20, 25. I mean, last year when you're down 19 and you come back to win like that. And we know by call was they changed the season because they did that win. Turn the season around. It really resulted. It would propel them into the streak. Yep. It gave them hope, momentum, confidence, all of it. Whether it was Mills or Stratter, whoever, but just that the team could come back from that and beat the Jags and send them a message. And that momentum carried them into a nine and then ultimately 10 game winning streak into the playoffs. Use the word momentum. Yeah. I'll never forget when H and scores to give them the 29 10 lead. I remember just look just kind of looking at our sideline look at the guys in the field. And I'm like maybe it's just not our year. I just could I just sense like this just
and then the drive right after that went right down the field and ended up hitting Hagen's for the touchdown. Like, okay, now I'm doing a math. I'm like, all right, it's 29 16. Hey, we stick this two in here. We're down eight and we're down to eight in a three. Like I tell you, you make a couple of stops. We never know. And Davis hits Higgins. And then Nico makes the one handed two point catch. And it's like, we're down 11. If we can just get one stop and then not only we get stopped, we did the Neil take over the game on defense. You went to a totally different level for the rest of the game. He was absolutely phenomenal. Stop after stop. I saw I saw us go from just the mentality, just kind of the way that we were walking around to all of a sudden, no, no, we're back in this thing. We're going to go win this thing. And I could I saw that for the rest of the season. I saw like a different level that they just intensity and confidence and everything. It didn't matter. It was on the field. They were going to find a way to win a game.
They got to find that this year. You know, that's that's the kind of confidence they had. You're there in Pittsburgh in the playoffs. And it's seven six. Yeah. In the second half getting late, you're thinking, oh my gosh, you know, anything could go wrong. Yet I felt like there's a bit of confidence here that we're going to make a play to put this thing away. So the one point lead, this is going to hold up folks. But you know, they haven't had that yet this year. And they got to get back to that. Okay. Other games that are awesome games in the history of the stadium quickly here. I mentioned Bengals 2016. Okay. Colts obviously 2006. Yeah. Absolutely. The first time I would put that up a lot higher than maybe a lot of people will. I think in the first 10 years of this stadium, that's like second, even though they beat Denver on a Thursday night to get the 507 and 07. And we talk about the winning season one against the Patriots in 09. That Colts game there was such ecstasy after beating the Colts for the first time. And these games don't get talked about enough. Steelers and Falcons wins over them both 17 to 10 in 2011. Those were defensive slug fasts. Yep. And the Falcons won the first eight start. Yes.
The defense, the bulls on parade officially unveiled. Yeah. But the Steelers won. The fact that you beat the Steelers that year, it sent a message. You could be a really good football team. 17 to 10. You shut down Rathus Burger. You make the plays you win. Let me give you one. Okay. And I know you appreciate this one. And it has a lot of reference because of what happened on Monday night. The Chicago Bears knocking off the fill off the Eagles. Right. You know the one I'm going to say 20 kingdom 2014. Got him out of a deer blind. Yep. That was huge and beat the Ravens. And I say that because to me in the O'Brien era, even with all the wins and all the division championships and whatever, even Patriots games that we talked about, I felt like that day with case, come out of a deer blind starting for them. I felt like from beginning to end, from play one to play one 25 or whatever it was, that was the best I'd ever seen a Texan team play. Dialed in, focused, shut down that Ravens offense. Didn't do a ton offensively, but we're able to
withstand. And obviously case came out of the game hot and just getting that. Remember, Aryan throwing a touchdown to CJ Fedor with which was pretty amazing. It was a great game. It was coaching goes. It was a well-coached game. It was a team win. It was well-coached. It was, it was everything and gets a team that would go to the playoffs. In fact, that's why the last week of the year was still in play because you beat the Ravens that way. And it, the whole story of how we got to case on that Sunday is pretty amazing. And I'll legend it. I'll never forget Bill O'Brien saying at some point, you know what? I don't know that I truly understood case. I never truly understood case's impact on a locker room. Right. Right. And yeah, you might not throw for 300 yards. Am I not throwing for five touchdowns, but it's just the way that case and you could see it on Monday night when they filmed them in a locker room and he's like, A, I might not be, you know, I might be starting here for the first time, but this sure ain't my
first rodeo. Yeah, it might not be a cowboy. Yeah, man. Where are you going with this? Oh, my blank blank first rodeo. And it's like, yeah, he just, there's something, there's something about him that is just, it's magical. It's magical. That day 2014 was my first year. It was pretty amazing. Great win. Great wins to talk about. But the ultimate was as far as regular season wins at Reliance Stadium, probably September 8th, 2002, but there's so many others to discuss. And that's why we just did it. And we'll discuss news and notes Houston Methodist minutes on the way out to Thursday night football. It's Texans radio. Okay, final segment here. And I'm the way out, will Anderson Jr. at the podium this week. You know, with the Dallas rivalry, we talk about this. Is it a rivalry? Is it not a rivalry? Obviously means a great deal to the people of Houston. We talked about the September 8th, 2002 game, all of it. But what about the magnitude of this game from that standpoint, it being Houston Dallas, is that affecting the players at all?
Are they feeling the juice? Here's Will Jr. on the situation. Man, it's a lot of history that goes back to this game that, you know, I'm just not learning about being here. But I, I'll absolutely think, man, it's about us. Man, it's about how we approach this week, the process, we go through our process. And how are we going to attack Sunday? I think that's the biggest thing. Like how much more can we focus in on just doing your job and just being where you're supposed to be and don't what you're supposed to do? And then when we get to the game, we can worry about the rivalry and text and stuff like that. All right, there's Will Jr. on the situation. What's the situation with Houston? Methodist minutes. How's that for a segue? Planta Feshitist is the topic de jour and Dr. Jason O'Wareho joins us now. Dr. Has it going? I'm doing well, Mark. Good to talk to you. Always a pleasure to talk with you except not a pleasure to have Planta Feshitist, which I have suffered from before. And this is a very unique injury, Dr. Tell us a little bit about what causes it because it seems to come from out of nowhere. Yeah, you're absolutely right, Mark. And I along with you have also suffered with this and both of my feet. It really, it affects,
you know, probably one in four to five people over the course of their life. And, you know, we, you know, contrary to popular belief, Planta Feshitist is not an inflammation of the Planta Feshit. It's actually a degenerative problem of the fascial tissue, which lines the bottom of the foot. That tissue is critical and shock absorption and, and you're, you're overall foot functioned during walking. And just for the repetitive use, you develop some micro tearing in the fascia, which leads to, you know, a painful situation, usually pain in the bottom of the heel with first steps in the morning that warms up gets a little bit better with activity. And then, after you sit down or drive, get out of your car, start to get up, start to walk, usually at the process repeats itself, it could be a very frustrating problem to deal with. So what is the recovery time because it's not like two weeks that you're all better. This takes a while, doesn't it? Yeah, if you look at, if you look at the studies, I mean, the range of time is anywhere from six
months to 18 months. And, you know, I think people that, you know, begin some conservative treatment for it earlier on, they tend to have a shorter course, but it is still, it is not an, you know, a short two week and I'm better kind of situation. All right. There's Dr. Jason O'Warell of Houston Methodist, the official healthcare provider of the Houston Texans, Houston Methodist leading medicine, planter fashitis, such a nasty injury will have a part two of that one coming up soon enough on tomorrow night's program. Coach Domingo Ryan's will be on the show. We have read blank and ship on the show. Stephen Attagocke, safety's coach on the show among many other things on a Friday night as we fully prepare you for Texans Cowboys Sunday at noon. 90. M Texans count down, presented by Madelo Especia. It is going to be an awesome weekend. Thursday night football is next Cleveland and Pittsburgh have a great night. Go Texans.
