Welcome back my friends. I am your guest host for today Olivia Lupea. Filling in. Having a grand old time. Couple of last things I just wanted to touch on with you guys very quickly is before we move to our your favorite segment of the of the day is Olivia's calls to action because we give all you all this information and then you say what the heck do I do with it. But just a couple of interesting things that I thought you guys might find interesting going on in Tennessee is there's them now a fourth whistleblower from the Metro Nashville public school system who is coming forward with allegations of misconduct and grade changing so that's been going on if you haven't been following that that's super interesting. So while the test scores are showing that basically 60% of Tennessee kids can't read or write or do anything. I think I just I know like everybody likes to say the scores are different depending on which metrics you're looking at and that's fine but moral the story is consistently the
state testing the the T-Cat shows the T-Cat shows that 60% of Tennessee kids are functionally illiterate and are do not meet the average standards basically across any subject. So even amongst that you've got teachers now coming out and saying that the school has misconduct, particularly like with discipline issues teachers aren't allowed to discipline kids anymore or do anything like that and and then on top of it there's also allegations of grade manipulations where teachers are being forced to change grades so they're cheating what I'm trying to say is they're they're pressuring the teachers to pad the statistics and they're still coming out with bad statistics so I think that just tells you how bad some of the stuff is so the state has theoretically open an investigation into at least one school now some state lawmakers are getting involved to to get the district completely audited after this new whistle blower came out and the districts just trying to just credit her saying that she was fired for other disciplinary reasons so you know it's all back and
forth and there's they're trying to cover up and do all of this but just just very interesting that we now have four whistle blowers all basically saying the same thing that they either quit because they just couldn't take anymore or they were fired for calling out the district for these so-called manipulations or or problems within the district so it'll be interesting to see how that goes out Memphis faced the Memphis school system faced a huge audit and they found so much fraud and waste and abuse in the system that the state is now taking over they passed a bill to allow the state to create an oversight board of Memphis schools basically saying you've proven you don't have the ability to govern yourself so now we have to step in and try and get things back on track so it'll be interesting to see how that do we not realize what we're doing to these kids who we don't push them to the what their potential yeah it's it's really it's very sad it's again the the only ones who are the only ones who are suffering are the children you know and and one of the teachers made a very good point she's like our kids can't even read or write and then we're allowing
them to pitch a fit or they can I didn't know this was a thing these kids can make up an entire years work of school courses in like a multiple choice test over one day in summer school so they can basically just blow off a whole class they don't get in trouble for it and then they can make up the class so that this district doesn't have to report them as failing literally in like a 50 question multiple choice test something like that takes like 10 minutes so this is only hurting the kids and then one of the teachers yeah she she did exactly it's just it's terrible what kind of future are we setting up our kids for and anyway so it'll be very interesting to see how that how that shakes out and how that goes down another interesting thing real quick to just note is that a global developer there they have had their headquartered in London but they have offices in like New York Dubai Hong Kong or not Dubai double and I think Ireland Hong Kong Shanghai they are suing Bradley County which I know isn't exactly where we're you know where you guys listening from but it's important to note over their data center regulations so basically the County
Commission earlier this year voted to put in certain regulations on large scale data centers just saying like hey you can't build within 3,000 feet of like schools churches homes for a lot of like very valid reasons people don't like the noise we don't have a lot of studies about how that impacts like with all those EMFs the the lights are loud you know it's there's people have legitimate oppositions to having it like right next door to your home or church or school or whatever etc so the the County Commission passed and said you just can't put a data center within 3,000 feet well now this global developer who I'm sure has billions of dollars at their disposal is suing Bradley County because they bought a plot of land about 300 acres directly behind a local high school and have plans to put a building within like 1500 feet of the school so one of the data center buildings would literally be like right behind the school and so the the County didn't even wasn't even informed of this plan that basically the developers just said well here's our site plan and now we're suing you because we don't like your regulations basically saying
we don't think that we think that you overstepped Tennessee law and that your restrictions are too harsh so I'm just saying good to pay attention because this is the you know this is what's going on and and we can have different you know a more drawn out conversation about you know objections or to data centers either legitimate or not or how data centers are used etc but for a multi you know a global conglomerate basically investment firm to come in and say we're gonna squash you at the local level but then tack on in the end they wrote a cute little sensor like we want to be a good neighbor and like be transparent and open and like answer all your questions but we're suing you so just a heads up y'all it's it's very interesting and I don't think the data center discourse I don't think the AI discourse I certainly don't think the flock camera and the ALPR discourse is going anywhere soon so it'll be again interesting to see how that turns out because it's could set precedent for local communities trying to set their own safeguards and govern in their own communities again this is not even an in-state firm this is a you know the New York office of a global
developer trying to interfere with a local governments right to establish safeguards for their community and and that's a problem so very interesting leave you very quickly with your calls to action I don't have a lot for you today concrete but there are a couple things go to David sales legislative training if you can get up there the second one I want to remind you is make sure to start doing your candidate research early voting starts October 19 so make sure you're getting aware about who you're going to vote for it's important you must show up and vote very very important and beyond that have a great fall start enjoying this cooler weather go do something fun
