Teen Rescued from Swollen Cahaba River in Irondale

A teenager got a lucky break in Irondale, Alabama, when firefighters pulled him safely from the Kahaba River on Tuesday, March 10th. He slipped into the fast-moving water, but walked away without a scratch after rescuers reached him quickly. The trouble started when heavy rain the day before, on Monday, March 9th, swelled the river's current. The teen had been near a rope swing with a friend, lost his footing, and ended up clinging to it in the rushing water. They were not even swimming at the time. His friend wasted no time and dialed 911, alerting dispatchers to the missing person along the riverbank. Responders arrived to find the two teens in spring and to action right away. Fire personnel waited into the water themselves to haul the boy out, wrapping up the rescue smoothly. No one else was hurt in the incident. Irondale Fire Chief Josh McDaniel is urging folks to stay cautious around the Kahaba right now, since all that recent rain has it flowing strong.
