2:02Later on today's show, Freddie Peralta is ready to make a playoff statement in a few minutes. Junior Caminero adds to his accolades but to start the raise get out of Philly relatively Scott free. Yes, the key for the raise was finishing the regular season healthy and that was mostly done. Although there were a couple scares which will get to in a moment but we just first want to acknowledge how amazing of a regular season that the raise had 98 victories 98 and 64 regular season record in 2026. Who would have thought it? You know the season I would have thought I don't know between 78 to 83 and look where they're at 98 regular season wins that is believe it or not third most in raise history. Of course the raise one triple digits 100 games in 2021.

3:04They won 99 in 2023 and then 2026 they had of course 98 victories 2008 was 97 and 2019 was 96. Just full disclosure here it would have been really cool to see the raise get to 100 but beggars can't be choosers and hey I will take 98 regular season victories in an A L East title and home field advantage in the playoffs. So again great job by the raise they didn't really have to win anything in Philadelphia yet they took two of three they won the first two and then lost the game on Sunday afternoon wet windy terrible conditions that's why the game was moved up a little bit earlier and Philly winning on Sunday secured their playoff spot. So their fans had a lot to cheer for at citizens being park but the raise one on Friday to

4:06zero pitchers duel between Freddie Peralta and Christopher St. Cheswell talk about that in the third segment and then Saturday was the old 12 one. Dropping and you have to imagine that Philly fans were a little bit nervous of like hey the raise have absolutely nothing to play for the goal is just getting out of this series healthy and no major injuries and yet we're getting whooped where we have everything on the line in this series but down to the 11th hour the Philly's were able to take the victory on Sunday and get into the playoffs and we'll see what they can do on the national lakeside but I mentioned of course that getting out of this series and ending the season on a healthy note that was the real key and unfortunately there were a couple of brief scares over the course of the weekend for one you had Griffin jacks who in that 12 one

5:07victory was hit by a 104 mile per hour line drive off the bat by trade turner. So that was a little troublesome. He had to he was visibly in pain walked gingerly off the field and he did not return for the next inning. Now the official diagnosis is a lower back contusion and while that sounds not so great the raise are pretty confident that he will be ready to go on October 3rd when the ALDS begins. I guess that is the benefit of having extra time off you get almost a full week to wear those out but Griffin jacks a moment like that you're holding your breath and thinking he's a pretty key part of this roster. He of course made the successful transition from the bullpen to the rotation and had been

6:08really hot over his last couple starts over his last three starts in fact, Jackson's 2 and 0 with a 0.60 ERA allowing seven hits and three walks while striking out 14 and 15 and then you look at his season. Overall 112 innings 353 ERA 118 whip really good numbers and he provides the added benefit or value of yeah, you could slot him in as a starter in the playoffs or he's also a guy that should be comfortable coming out of the bullpen if a situation like that is needed. So while it was a scary moment for Griffin jacks, it does appear on the surface that he will be good to go and ready for the playoffs. Meanwhile that wasn't the only injury scare that we had to experience over the weekend. Chandler Simpson found a ball off his right foot on Friday. It's like man, we're just trying to get through these three games without something crazy

7:14happening, a freak scare, a freak situation and we've seen it before where something like that can knock a guy out for the count for weeks. If not months, depending on how hard the ball was fouled off in what part of the muscle or bone it may contact with. But luckily for him, while he is getting some additional rest, the rays seem to think and he seems to think that he will be ready for the playoffs on October 3rd. But of course, Chandler Simpson, you don't want to do anything with his feet or his legs. You don't want to do anything that could jeopardize what he brings to the table on the field. He really underscores the mindset of this race offense of, hey, I'm going to hit for a high average. I'm not going to strike out. I'm going to run a bunch. I'm going to bring you a bunch of value defensively. You look at what he does, his individual statistical category and compare that with the rays overall

8:20and it's easy to see why the rays have the fewest strikeouts in baseball while they have the second most stolen bases in baseball while they have the highest team average in baseball while they while they have the most sacrificed bunts in baseball. They also have the second most groundouts in baseball and Chandler Simpson, as we know, is a guy who doesn't like to elevate the ball that does not do him justice. He likes to keep the ball on the ground or in a better situational line drive. And then the rays also have the seventh best, babbit in baseball. I mean, all those things kind of showcase how important Chandler Simpson is to the overall group as a contacting speedster and a guy who really buttresses the bottom half of Tampa base lineup and a guy who is continuously putting the ball in play and applying constant pressure to opposing defenses. And a guy like him, yeah, he's not going to hit home runs like junior Kim and arrow, but he is really going to be that quote unquote X factor in the playoffs.

9:23So let's hope that these next several days, he has time to ice up that right foot and gets it in better control. But I just wanted to note that again, the goal was, hey, we don't need any major injury scares. And there were a couple moments there in the series that made you hold your breath. But it seems like all is on the up and up for Griffin, Jack's Chandler Simpson and the rest of the group. And you know, a series like Philadelphia in the conditions, I mean, the rays are maybe somewhat lucky that there were no other injury scares that came about because you look at the wet conditions and a guy slipping or tripping or getting a foot caught in the grass. But credit to the rays taken two out of three against the Phillies. And again, just like New York was a playoff like atmosphere. So was Philadelphia. So really good tune up for the rays.

10:24And the key and the hope and the belief is that by the time October 3rd runs around, the rays won't be rusty. They will be able to keep the momentum going like they have towards the end of the regular season. And I think it's on Kevin Cash and Eric Neander and the entire coaching staff to say, hey, we're going to do some scrimmages. We're going to do some intense practices. We're going to make sure that we're not resting on our laurels. And we don't come out cold, whether we're facing the red socks or the Yankees. Junior Camonero, boy, boy, he showed up to play. 13:39Okay, we know all about what junior Caminero can do at the play. He now has 42 homers and he recently surpassed the 100 RBI mark that actually happened in the first inning of the raise 121 win at Citizens Bake Park. So 40 plus homers, 100 plus RBI's, but there was one other feat that he wanted to accomplish. That was 162. What does that mean? He played and started all 162 games and all at their base. He didn't take a breather and played 20 games as the designated hitter or something like that. There's some other players out there that we know that have an occasion to do that. No, junior was there in the lineup every day and at the hot corner every day with that. He made some history. He became the fourth player in MLB's divisional era since 1969 to start 162 games at the

14:43hot corner in a season joining Vinicastia who did it with the 98 Rockies. Of course, Cowrupkin, Jr. who did it with the 97 Orioles and Sal Bando who did it with the 69 A's. Meanwhile, Caminero is just the fourth player in race franchise history to play in 162 games in a season along with Evan Longoria who did it in 2014, Delman Young who did it in 2007 and Aubrey Huff who did it in 2003. So just the fact that he was in the lineup each and every single day. I mean, I don't think there's a mistake. And there's definitely a correlation between Caminero being ready, willing and available in the race winning 98 games this season. It really does set a great example for his teammates because you got to imagine between spring training, world baseball classic, all star break, dog days of summer, endless road

15:45trips, just the grind of playing pretty much each and every single day. I mean, there's not many off days during a course of a six month MLB season. There had to be times and instances where junior Caminero was feeling, I feel about 65% or 70% or 75%. But the fact that he shows up every day shows off dedication that he has to the game and how much he loves the game and enjoys the game and wants to be one of the best players in the game. And at some point, everybody's dealing with some sort of nagging injury. Chandler Simpson was dealing with it. Victor Mesa, Jr. had been dealing with it. Taylor Walls had been dealing with it. Some of those things go unreported. But the fact that they can look at junior Caminero and say, Hey, Caminero is still making a point in effort to show up and be in the lineup in the field. Why can't I as well, even though I don't feel 100% I mean, how often are you even going to feel 100% over the course of 162?

16:46And I think it was Nick Martinez that put this so eloquently is the best teams have guys that post. They play the best guys are playing every single day. And that harkens back to what junior Caminero was able to do. And it really also goes back to the off season because if we remember junior back in 2025 had some issues with a lingering back issue. Now he was still able to play 154 games. But I think that kind of back issue problem that he was dealing with, he looked inward at himself and said, Hey, I need to make an effort to get into better shape is fitness routines the way he changed his diet around. And I think that helped him get through all 162 this season. So I think the fact that he played all 162 should be a huge feather in his cap and sets a great example not just for fellow veterans, but for young players as well.

17:48You have a job to do you show up. Now if there's a major injury, of course, you know, you got to go to the I L and you got to go through rehab, but it really does set a great example. I think this should be a couple brownie points in junior's favor. I mean, Jordan, he played most every game, but he didn't play every single game and he's not playing a position. Jordan is a D H of vast majority of the time. And I think some voters should take that into consideration of just the sheer amount of extra work and effort that junior has to put in to not only hit four times a game or five times a game, but also really be active at the hot corner and ready for any moment in that position. And look, I mean, if you're junior, he's he's done it all again, spring training, World Baseball Classic, played in the All Star game, the home run Derby and then showed up.

18:50We are talking about the makeup of a true superstar. And it would be really cool to see if he can be that next line of guys that continues to play 162 each and every year or most each and every year. I mean, think about how different this team's record would be if junior only played, I don't know, 125 games or 130 games. Maybe the raise only have 91 or 92 victories instead of 98. So as important as it is to hit 40 plus home runs and drive 100 plus RB eyes in and have a 277 batting average and work to improve your defensive abilities at third. The fact that he showed up and was there each and every day also means something, not many not many raised players have done that over the course of the franchise's history. So junior continuing to make that statement as the dude as the franchise player.

19:52And you got to wonder if after this season, depending on how the playoff shake out and what happens with the construction of a new ballpark, if the race maybe start having those conversations about a long term extension because he seems to be the guy that I mean, not only does he show it on the field, but I think he he is that rare bird that is not only a great player, but also a great teammate and is being done. What's asked of him by the coaching staff, the front office and the training staff. So the raise certainly have something very, very special as we know in junior Caminero. And now comes the playoffs where junior will get, you know, several days off to rest himself and to get himself 200% and feeling great. And if there's a guy who can have moment in the playoffs when the lights are brightest in your facing the best pitchers in baseball, it's junior that should be able to do something

20:56special. Just a quick footnote here, I saw an interesting stat on the telecast. He actually has the most homers on pitches out of the zone. So he's a guy that no matter where the ball is pitched, he can find a way to do that. A way to deposit it out of the ballpark. And we've seen that many, many times this season. Third and final segment, Freddie Peralta. He's basically become a brand new pitcher in a raised uniform. Freddie Peralta continues to prove he's playoff starter were the man oh man Freddie Peralta wants to pitch in the big games. He wants to pitch in the ALDS the ALCS and of course the world series.

24:05What did he do in Philly? Well, it's the same thing that he's pretty much been doing the last six starts in a race uniform. He worked five and a third strong innings in Philadelphia going toe to toe with one of the best pictures in the national league with Chris Anche. So a legitimate pictures dual where there was very little margin for air and Freddie Peralta continued to deliver big pitch after big pitch taking a shut out into the six inning. I think it just underscores how meaningful Freddie Peralta is to this race team and how much of an A plus plus plus plus that Eric Niernder gets for seeing something in Freddie Peralta that the Metz didn't see or couldn't figure out or didn't care enough about Freddie Peralta to figure out. It's really interesting because you look at Freddie Peralta and by the way over his last six outings he has five and 0 with a point seven nine ERA which is best in the AL over

25:11that span along with 31 strikeouts and 34 innings. Isn't some of the playoffs riding the hot hand and using the guy that has been most successful as of late. I mean with that with what Peralta has shown and I don't necessarily care about his overall numbers this year which I'll touch on in a minute but just what he's done like I mentioned in his last 44 innings it merits a roster spot on the ALDS even though you may only need to use three starters. We know Drew Brassmosson has a spot locked. We know Nick Martinez has a spot locked beyond that the raise are being very hush hush about what they're pitching plans and roster plans are which I don't blame them or doubt them on that. Why would you come out in a real yeah this is what we're going to do for this that and the other thing and I think some of it is also contingent on whether the raise face the Yankees or the Red Sox so it could be contingent on what each of those line up

26:15spring to the table but either way I think Freddie Peralta has to be listed and labeled as a starter in the ALDS. No offense to Griffin Jacks but I would feel more confident in deploying Freddie Peralta at this time being Griffin Jacks not to say that you can't also have Griffin Jacks on the ALDS roster. I mean yes he has transitioned from a reliever to a starter and he's had a very successful season by all accounts and has elite swing and must swing and miss stuff but I would think that you have Griffin Jacks as your quote unquote fourth arm that gives the raise flexibility whether hey we're going to use him as a starter or we're going to bring him out of the bullpen. So I would think based on what Peralta has shown of late he has to be one of those three

27:19or one of those four starting pitching options and just imagine how what he was like when he initially came to the raise with the meds he had a 499 ERA and went 5 and 9 with the raise this year post all star break he's 5 and 2 with a 3 2 5 ERA and that includes some of his whoopsie whoopsie starts to begin his time with the raise before he eventually figured things out and I just think the fact that he's that he has that playoff experience that he's of that I think he just brings a little bit of a different mindset and I'm excited to see what he can do in the post season in. I mean the raise have to think they're lucky stars for getting Peralta and making the adjustments with him to be successful but Peralta also has to think his lucky stars that

28:23he wound up with the raise and they helped him adjust his delivery and they scratched his slider and sweeper and said hey user change up more and you're going to have success. It's funny because Peralta before he got to the raise his change up was his worst pitch with the meds and the normal line of thinking would be okay he comes with the way the raise the raise we're going to say well let's just drop the change up but instead they're like no we're a change up team we want our guys throwing change ups. You got to change up we can make it better so we're going to scrap those other pitches and have you focus more on using the change up and we see how that has worked but I mean Peralta has been Mr. Consistent of late and I will be very curious to see how he has

29:24utilized and deployed on the ALDS roster assuming he gets the spot which I think he will because the other problem you don't want to run into if you're if you're the raise and for a Peralta for that matter say for one reason or the other Peralta isn't on the ALDS roster and the raise make it to the ALCS so you're saying you're telling me that Peralta isn't going to pitch for upwards of two weeks give or take and then you're going to throw him into the fire I think that's too long I think these guys these established pitchers run on routine inconsistency and they're already getting a big break by being off from September 28th to October 3rd so I just do not see a scenario where Peralta isn't on the ALDS roster I mean you at least have to get him some work in one way or the other and maybe it you know

30:30it works out where the raise wind up sweeping their ALDS opponent Peralta is the number three starter so he still gets that action that is needed but I would say that Russ Mussen Martinez and Peralta you treat those as your big three and then if needed you have Griffin Jackson Ian Seymour as your four or five and if not needed you could still utilize those guys as bullpen, bulk, long relief arms so the good news is the raise have some options that they can work in and weave in through the playoffs and let's just hope that the raise after all that they've gone through this regular season that they don't have a quick exit in the ALDS like come on you did all this work 98 victories proving everybody wrong let's continue to prove everybody wrong let's make it to the world series heck for all we know it could

31:33be a rematch of 2008 where the raise go up against the Phillies in the world series crazier things have happened we've seen many a team that just sneak into the wild card i.e. the Phillies and they could wind up making a run in the postseason you never know just based on the fact of you know whether they were hot recently or they've had they've had their back against the wall and had to play through it and that kind of carried them through the playoffs i don't know but it's gonna be fun but for right now we can watch other teams beat up on each other and the raise can rest and hopefully be as ready and prepared as possible for what comes next on that note that'll do it for today's episode of Lockdown Raise now on video we send you to the first ever 24 seven youtube channel on mlb and on audio check out lockdown mlb game night for your second listen stay safe and we'll talk to you tomorrow
