The Survivor Specialist film will are back in today. We are recapping episode number two of Survivor 51. I don't even know what just happened. I'm laughing. I was laughing as this was going down. And now for anybody who wonders, can you vote for yourself? A producer will step in and say, yo, you can't do that.
What in the world? Last week it took us forever to get to the vote. Well, we need to break down what was going through. Rhode Island Rob's head right away. No beating around the bush. No waiting it out. We just need to start talking about this immediately. Because this man had a plan. And that plan was not a good one. And he clearly wanted to leave the game. And was not able to. So before we get into anything else, just what in the world did we just watch on our televisions? Yeah, I actually think I have a pretty good understanding of exactly the Rob plan here. And this might honestly stem from season 50. I think, you know, we have fewer super fans. That's what we've been asking from casting. You know, fewer game bots. Less white-collar people who are obsessed with Survivor and just get every day Americans and see how they approach the format, how they approach the game. Regardless of how new you are to the game, Jeff and production will tell you that you need to watch a few seasons in preparation.
And I imagine one of those seasons is season 50. Not only because it's the season right before this one. This is modern as you can get with, hey, I'm going to go play 51. Which season should I watch? Well, maybe the one that happened right before it. But also that's a returning season that has a lot of big players. Caracters move, Jeff, Jeff loves that energy. And one of the biggest twists of that season is Christian Hubecki voting himself out of the game. And that is in extra if you lose this journey. If you cannot solve this puzzle in time, there will be a vote added to the earn with your name on it. And essentially, you are contributing that vote to the earn. The twist was called one in the earn, right? Or something like that. And that is sort of maybe where Rob got some inspiration here. That like, I have to tell you, I can vote myself out. I have to stop you. So what is insane is they started filming four days before Christian Hubecki did that. No way. Swear to God.
Well, they had screeners up the whole season, maybe. Some they had to be. I'm telling you they agree with you. They're had to be some like getting yourself voted out. It feels so top of mind. And honestly, I think maybe they had the next two or three episodes screen because those episodes are sent to CBS and they're locked probably three, maybe four weeks prior. So they had those ready and they can show the cast, hey, here's what's happened on season 50. Because that felt very Christian coded here that you can put a vote in the earn for yourself. Because that is totally against the rules. It's always been against the rules. And I don't know if you think to do that unless you've seen someone else do it right before you went out to go play. Regardless, the plan is to get all votes on Eric. Eric plays to shot in the dark as to not contribute another vote to the earn. And this will allow Rob's soul vote against himself to vote himself out of the game. The funniest part is when he gets up there and the producer says,
you cannot write down your own name. He goes, uh-oh, really? Well, that that throws a wrench in things. I'm going to have to think through this one. He then ends up writing Eric's name down, which I actually think if he is trying to pull off this plan, which I still think he intended on pulling off, you know, he never played his idol though. So I don't know. He didn't play his idol because Eric didn't play a shot in the dark. Right. I think that is true. That is very, very true. But I think his plan then at that point was, Eric still plays a shot in the dark. We have nine votes total against Eric, including Rob's own vote. It is then nine zero. But once he sees that Eric has played his shot in the dark, Rob can get up, play his idol on Eric. Everyone will go, what the heck did you just do? Why are you blowing this up? We will have a zero, zero vote after nine votes are negated. He will then tell everybody, hey, I miss my wife and kids. I'm not, you know, I can't hack it out here. This is one of the experience I thought I'd be having.
Please eliminate me from the game and he goes out and plays with glory. That did not happen. But that was the full thought process. Yeah, it has to be. And what's crazy to me, I have no sympathy. Like I see Will Bag here. I hate quitters, but a quitter tries and fumbles it is the best thing never happened. Like for me, I have zero sympathy for anybody who quits. I wanted to play this game forever. Somebody like Kristen, 26 years. She's been applying, finally gets on. If you go out there and you waste my time with a quit, you get the Hannah Rose treatment where I'm not going to be nice to you. And I don't feel the need to be nice to you. And Hannah Rose is living her life and she's doing great and all that. But like for her and Sean, I'm never going to say a positive thing about them. They wasted my time. I do take it personally because there's too many people. People always think, well, they're not taking up your spot. They're not going to be taking my spot. But they're taking up somebody else's spot who really wants to be there. The fact though, that he collapsed on his face just makes this so unbelievably epic. I just, I absolutely love it.
I, I cannot believe that he is not only still in the game. Not only still has his idol. The guy he thought was going home is still in the game. And a person that he had no idea was getting votes just got voted out. So every single thing that could go wrong for him today went wrong. And I don't think he quits next episode because at the end of the day, you have three weeks left. You have 21 days. If you can't be away from your wife and kids for 21 days, you got to know that about yourself and you can't get on the plane to fight a Fiji. Yeah, I don't, I don't see him quitting. Not only because like you said, he survives this night. That's another round. He still has the idol. Like he still is now in a pretty, advantageous spot. If you want to support your wife and kids, maybe bring home a million dollars. Like that should be where your heads at. Not I want to go tuck them in at night and snuggle them. Like you can still do that. You don't have many opportunities to win a million dollars within 26 days. Yeah, 100% and so I think that that was the plan.
He wanted to vote himself out all of that. It also just shows though how little of a grasp on the game Rob has right now. He thinks he's in total control. He thinks that this is a nine one. He thinks that Anna is just a fake vote. Blah blah blah. Little does he know that the women actually totally hate and are not hate Anna, but they were totally ready to get rid of Anna because Anna's throwing around names. Great setup by Alexis, by the way, which we'll get to because it's not really what happened. Also poor Carter and Ori being thrown under the bus when they're talking about crabs and everybody thinks that they're talking about the women. But also if you're if you're going to try to get on the women's side, maybe coming back from the tribal or coming back from the reward challenge, not even immunity challenge, a reward challenge. And immediately yelling at Eric that he's got to be over 200 pounds and he should be the one who's like leading Linnea or whatever the argument was rather than the other way around isn't the best way to get the women on your side. So it's not surprising to me that he didn't actually know the women's intention in this vote because he clearly was not thinking about what would their perspective be
after he came back and was just acting a fool when he got back from a reward challenge. Don't forget it everybody. This blow up was over a reward challenge. Rewards are big though. Like when you're out there, that's all you got to do for that day. It's the only thing you got to do. So that's where it all matters. I get when people get upset every reward challenge. Especially if there's food, there's no food here. No food. So, arpeggios, yeah. He was too mad too. I thought he was just only bringing back dirty old laundry from the first immunity challenge that they want. You're going to harp on the puzzle solvers when you won the immunity challenge and you already survived that round. Like what are you doing? Yeah Rob clearly doesn't know what's going on. I think one of the more interesting parts of this tribal council is what do you do in this situation if you're Eric or if you are Eric as Carter might spell Eric?
I like you mean do you actually play along with Rob? No, I don't think you do because I think that Eric, so we got this last episode now. Obviously Eric is not going to hear the confessionals that people are giving, but we got it at the end of last episode and I said that's very telling and this is where the edit when it's good, it's so good. And Alexis has the confessionals. I don't think I want Eric to go home. There was a lot more bonding going on with Eric than I think that we saw. And I think that Eric for us obnoxious to see can be for us over the top as he can be, even though Shuranda's having to bite her lip, all these different things, he's a good number because he's a loyal puppy. The puppy's going to annoy the shit out of you sometimes, but at the end of the day, it's like, look, it's cute. It's going to be loyal like so what if every now and then it poops in the house. And so that is kind of the role that Eric is falling into. I think his relationships were pretty good with all of them. And also you have to have a level of delusion when you walk on to survivor. I think we saw it tonight from Rob. I think we're seeing it a little bit from Eric and I don't mean this.
Delusion isn't always a negative, but you have to have the delusion that you're so good socially that no matter what the people who are telling you things are telling you the truth. Like there's got to be a part of you that thinks people really are going to be telling you the truth at all times. If you feel you've built these real relationships, he believes he built these real relationships. So why would he think that Rob of all people who he knows has kind of been dumping on him the entire season is actually going to be telling the truth all of a sudden. I don't know if he knows that Rob has been dumping on him the entire season. I think from Eric's point of view, he got told, hey, some people have been tossing your name out. I don't know if he's aware of the extent to which his name was being tossed out because they told him pretty lightly like I've heard your name, I've heard Shurand his name, I heard Linia's name. It wasn't like, oh, Eric, you've been on the bottom for four straight days and it was going to be a nine one vote the entire time. I don't think that's what he heard. So that might be one reason where he doesn't think he's on the bottom as much or he wasn't on the
bottom as much as he was. Another reason that I think this is tempting from Eric to just play your shot in the dark is because Rob so clearly tells you exactly the plan of what everyone's been telling you all day and you've already got, you know, these murmurs that your name has been around there. So Rob comes up and says, Anna is not the real plan. Everyone like Anna is the decoy bootman. And guess what? Who is Eric voting for in this scenario? Who does Eric think the votes are going on in this scenario? It is Anna. And so if I got Keat or I'm going to tribal council, losing a meeting challenge, going to tribal council, before tribal someone comes up to me and says, hey man, your name has been thrown out there. You got to be careful. Come with us and do this other plan. You know, we're going to go get out Anna and then right before tribal something like dude, Anna is not the real man. We've been tossing out your name all week. I go, oh, the other reason why I think you could also do it because if Anna is really the plan and if people have been telling you the truth, Anna can still go home
even like you don't know that your vote is necessary to Anna boot. So because look, you looked at who voted for Anna. It wasn't just Shuranda, Lenea, Alexis. They had Tinnon, Kristen, Ori, I'm pretty sure. Tinnon's not there. Tinnon, it was Christian. Christian Alexis, Eric, Kristen. Oh, Christian. Yeah, Christian. Okay. There was, I think if Eric does play a shot in the dark here, Anna still goes home. So that's what I'm saying. It is an extra safety blanket. It's not, it's not. So, you know, by not playing your shot in the dark, you are risking getting voted off, you know, eight to one or whatever. So let's talk this through real quick of like, you're assuming it's going to be six four. That's why you're voting this way in the first place. That's why you're confident that Anna's going home. Shuranda and Alexis and Lenea have put the numbers together.
You're a part of it. They're telling you it's going to be six. So you're, you're thinking, okay, well, I could play my shot in the dark. They don't really need me. Now, if you don't play your shot in the dark and Rob is willing to give you the idle, you could say, hey, I was trying to flushes. I totally told me had one and he played for me. If I played my shot in the dark, we still got Anna out of the game and Rob lost his idle. But do you think that that potentially makes him look sketchy in the eyes of any of the other players? I don't know if that matters because you, I don't know if they're coming up to Eric as, hey, we want to work with you. You're a number. I think it was more Eric spend the vote. We have someone else that's more top of mind in Anna. We need to rally numbers. Who's the easiest number that we can get? Well, it's the person on the bottom who's going home. So I think that's why they go to Eric, not like, hey, Eric, we think you're a great number, trustworthy guy. We want to work with you. If that was the case, his name wouldn't have been on the bottom for the first four days. So I do like, and I think that's one of the funniest parts
of Rob's plan here is that he had such the wrong read on the tribe. He actually thought the entire tribe was going to write Eric's name down so that if the plan did go to for it, like if Eric does write or if he plays shot in the dark and then Rob plays the idle on Eric, it's just a wasted rob idle. It's a wasted shot in the dark, whether it hits or not, and Anna goes home anyway. I think that that would have been spectacular. That would have been TV gold. I mean, it honestly would have been TV gold if the rules of survivor stated you could write your name down because imagine the votes come out rob and then whatever. How many votes for Anna? How many votes for Eric? Eric votes don't count. And it's a six one and a derogatory with the idle on Eric. That would have just been nutty. That would have been incredible. It would have been absolutely incredible. Yeah, this this was Rob just, I don't know, we need we need chaos and we got it Skylander gamer TV with
the Super Chat Rob for survivor game changers too. And then we also have Camden W3C. I think Rob will be the key of the season and be the decoy vote until he's picked off and I wonder if or he will take heat from Shuronda for not flipping. So that was something that's kind of getting lost in this whole thing or did not vote with all of them. Yeah, I think we can get to that. But first, I do want to address the Super Chat. And thank you for the Super Chat. The Q comparison because this is you know, the tribe didn't get to see Rob in the in the voting booth, the right Rob's name down and the producers say, no, you can't do that. Rob never made the speech, hey, I missed my wife and kids, I missed my family. I got to get out of here. So this is very different than Q saying, you know, I'm out of here. I don't want to play because Q's antics were very public. And obviously, Rob did have his antics here at tribal where he pulls Eric to side before they go and vote. But I think in that case, you can maybe defend it if he chooses to do so. He might not choose to defend
what this move was. He might just say, look, here's what happened. Here's the play I want to do. I went up and wrote my name, own name down. He might be what's it called the episode title. He might weaponize. Weaponized honesty. Yeah. Weaponized honesty might come from Rob if he tells his tribe, he wrote his own name down. But as far as we know, that is a secret and we'll stay a secret. And so maybe he can like explain this away somehow because he can say, I wanted I wanted a flush Eric shot in the dark. That's what I was going to do. It clearly didn't work. That was my plan. Sorry that you guys maybe got scared or whatever. I was just trying to flush your shot in the dark. And so we could get him out next time. Maybe you could say something like that. Well, and I think what makes this so interesting too is Rob never actually told Eric what his plan was. So he just kept telling Eric, trust me, trust me, trust me, trust me, trust me. And so when Eric is hearing the news, all he's hearing is that Rob has an idol and that Rob wants him to play a shot in the dark. He doesn't know that Rob's been trying to vote for himself or anything like that.
So Eric can go back to everybody else and he can say, Hey guys, Rob is trying to he was trying to get me to play my shot in the dark. That's all he was doing or whatever. He can't give enough details like Rob's already kind of a target here because they're targeting Rob's alliance, right? Chris MacTalk's Rob also told Eric he has, yeah, that did happen. But at the end of the day, Rob is going to be a target anyway. I mean, he's going to be a bigger target than Carter. And he's definitely going to be a bigger target than Ori, the other two people who are left out of this vote. Ori, I feel like is going to go right back under Shuron as Wayne and he's going to be like, look, I wanted the layup. You know, I don't know this game. Just take me back under. I'm ready to keep playing Carter probably more like than Rob. Now they know that Rob has an idol. Okay, what does that mean? I think it actually means Eric's probably still on the wrong side. And Eric's going to be running around giving them information as much information as he can. And I think it's going to end up hurting Eric more than anything because Rob, I don't know, Rob didn't give enough information. And then at the same time, I think that Rob is probably more useful to all of them than Eric. I
don't know. I just, I feel like we're assuming that they know too much of what's going on to just keep constantly targeting Rob. And I don't think that's the case, especially next week. We, it seems like we have some sort of swap or at least one person leaving tribal like whatever. We'll see what ends up happening. But there's too many things that can happen. I don't feel like this goes right into the queue route. Yeah, maybe I think it's more like we don't know what Rob's intentions are at this point. That's what makes it confusing. Does he want to recover? He might not attempt to recover. He might say if we lose, vote me out. Yeah. Like that could be it. That could be the end of it. We just didn't get to see his plan come to fruition because he wasn't a ladder. His name down plus the votes weren't going where he thought they were. Plus Eric did not even play as shot in the dark. But if he does want to recover, I do think there is potentially a path forward. But what he has done is I don't know. Anytime you're going to vote and Jeff says, all right, let's get to the vote. And someone raises their hand, stands up and has a private conversation with somebody away from everybody else. You don't want to keep that player in the game,
right? Like you don't want that uncertainty. Even though we are getting permanent uncertainty from Jeff in the game, you can vote out the players that are giving you permanent uncertainty. Yeah. I agree. I agree. And so do you think they ultimately made the right move in voting out Anna or no? I don't know. I mean, this seemed to be very much Alexis was getting weird vibes from Anna and kind of felt on the outs with her own tribe. And so I mean, from what I saw, it was Alexis and Anna talking and Anna actually brought up Shurana's name in Linnae's name. And Alexis did not Anna Alexis did. Right. Sorry Alexis brought up those names to Anna and it was like, yeah, yeah, just kind of like going along with it. And then she used that against Anna after this whole popcorn conversation because Alexis walks up and changes the subject to popcorn. And
Alexis can immediately tell, okay, you guys were not talking about popcorn. You were probably talking about some plan that clearly I am not a part of if you now you're going to start talking about popcorn. Yeah. And it was so so obvious and so awkward and such weird vibes that Alexis just goes on the offensive here. And Shurana and Linnae just buy this. Like they just assume Alexis is tying the truth. They never corroborate with anybody. They never go up to Anna and approach her and say, Hey, what's the deal you want me out? Like this was just a she said, she said scenario where Alexis kind of made this up. I mean, Alexis was the one to first bring these names up. So I mean, good play on her. She got like she was on the outs. And then she was able, you know, it's not dissimilar from Jenna last week when Jenna just went up to Brady and said, Hey, Anaya, Alia, Anaya, yeah, Alia, you're making up people now. I know. There's a lot of weird like,
oh, there's Anna, Alia, Linnae, like, come on, like give me a little bit of a break. Anaya said your name, Brady. And then that was it. Like that was over. Like there was no conversation. Like, Anaya didn't know Alia. Alia didn't know. Alia didn't know the earnings even on the table until Pat spilled the beans at tribal. And so I don't know. I think this probably is another product of the cast not knowing the game super well. I think if you're well versed and studied of survivor, if you watched every season, every episode and someone comes up to you and says, yeah, we don't fill it was throwing your name out. I go, huh, fill it like fill it. I'm a podcast for every 10 years. What are you talking about? I'm going to go talk to Phil. And I'm probably going to get the facts right. And we're going to have a conversation. But these players are saying, oh, Phil, oh, Phil, it costs my name. Oh, Phil's dead to me. I'm never to say another word to him. Let's vote him out right now. I'm going to switch up my entire plan because of one thing that you
said to me. Yeah. Yeah. I know. And this season so far. And first of all, I want to say, I loved tonight's episode. Oh, this was great. This was phenomenal. I'm very happy you're saying that will because I was worried that you were going to come into that. And like this, I, this was an old school episode of we had a lot. I liked it better than last week, I think. I agree with you. I think that tonight's was phenomenal because we had a normal segment. We had a reward challenge. We had other normal segments. We had an immunity challenge. Like, well, we had a whale. This felt full. And my point of that is this season so far has felt full. And we're seeing players make really good reads. We're seeing players make really stupid reads. And we're also seeing players who are accidentally either getting the right thing or getting the wrong thing. Again, when Lenea thinks that she has everything figured out, she's actually walking up on Ori and Carter talking about crabs. And we're seeing that as an audience. And we know that's a fact. But Lenea thinks she is discovering something. So that's why she's actually going against Anna even harder thinking that she has this information that she doesn't actually have. Lenea is
making an absolutely wrong read here, but getting to the same result. And we're seeing so many players who are going back and forth. You know, like you were saying, Jenna last week just says one name. This has been very fascinating and trusting very quickly in a lot of instances. Because I do feel like we're five days in and there's huge tribes. And it feels like the people who are trusting are so trusting. Eric being so trusting of these five people who voted with him tonight. Sharanda and Lenea being so trusting of Alexis to just go along with this plan. And you're I think you're going to see a lot of people make mistakes further down the line because eventually somebody in their alliance is going to go against them. On the other side, we have Brady Devon jelly Devon and Brady Devon jelly Mike and Pat creating an alliance and we'll get into all that. But again, it feels like it's just so, whoa, how is this coming to fruition so quickly and what is it based on? And that is kind of an old school feel because old school it used to
be like, yo, we're from the same location or you remind me of my sister or whatever it wasn't like, hey, there's six of us here. And I just happen to bond the most with you. I think the bigger tribes are really helping to lead to this little bit more of chaos and this little bit more just a bit more of exciting developments and and sloppy your gameplay. I think it's I think it's been good. Yeah, it's a breath of fresh air when you have people making this place. Yeah, I think especially pre-merge because you don't really win the game in the pre-merge. If you were to play, you know, a plus survivor. And again, if you had a tie, yes, if you're the cast full of a plus survivor students or super fans that are going to go out and play the ideal way to play the game in the pre-merge is to not draw attention to yourself. It is to roll with the majority. It is to have unanimous votes. It is all the things that actually make for quite boring TV. And maybe that's why
pre-merges have not been fun in recent eras when you have a bunch of super fans. They know how to play. Why will I make my big move at final 17, final 16? I way rather make that when there is a jury and when I'm already closer to the final three. These players don't seem to know that at all. Like they don't seem like this could have been an easy eric vote. I mean, even from Alexis's point of view, I know we're giving her credit here of getting the vote on to Anna because of the popcorn conversation. But if you are Alexis, it did seem as if Anna was having a pretty legitimate strategic conversation with you. And you have felt on the outs from your tribe. And Anna is the one person it seems you can talk strategy with in one weird vibes from Anna. And you just, yeah, Anna, you're dead to me. Like this is Abby Marie Ola. You are dead to me because you talked about popcorn and I could tell you were talking. Anna's sitting there talking with Carter. Was it Carter and Ori? I think it was Carter for sure. I forget who the second was. Was it Ori or was it
was it Rob? I don't know who it exactly was. But the point is Anna might just be like not lying to you or trying to get you out. She's trying to gather information to report back to you on and you walk up on her and she's trying to diffuse the situation. And now you assume she's lying and throwing your name out. And look, I don't know. I wasn't there. And these are heavily edited episodes. I'm just saying it seemed very quickly that Alexis even turned on Anna. And then Anna goes up, like I already said, was Shurranda Lina. They buy every word she says. That, I don't know. I think if you have players who know the game better, you are getting way more predictable boots and from our first two travel council so far, it seems like the votes can change on a dime because people will just hear anything and say, oh my gosh, now I heard this. Now I heard that I need to change the plan. And so I'm saying guys, I mean, we had already make the point. Just take the layup. I almost want him to say, take the field goal. Take the three points. Don't go for it on fourth and three
at the 12 yard line. Just kick the field goal. But he's saying take the layup. You don't need the three pointer. You don't need to have court shot. But it seems like this cast does like the three point shot. They do like to have court attempt because they want to play hard. They want to get after the people who maybe are coming after that. I mean, think about that. And I do have something I want to add to this. But think about that. Like just going to your point, Brady, Devon and Jelly are all part of the same alliance now, supposedly, at least from what we just saw. It's a group of five. And we just saw that. I mean, and these are people who voted against each other. So I think your point there of like the layup versus the three pointer and all that is very apt because it's like when you sit here and you look, but on the podcast I did with Aubrey and Wentworth this past weekend, I asked them about the podcast, by the way. Thank you. I appreciate that. And I asked them, I said, how do you feel about the different size tribes? Like which size tribe do you think is best? What was your favorite to play? Because Kelly got to play in nine and 10 and I think nine twice and then 10 Aubrey, we figured out has played in a six person tribe and eight person tribe and nine person
tribe and a 10 person tribe. So she has started in every version you can pretty much have. And they were both kind of saying I think it was Wentworth who really brought it up. What's so interesting is on the bigger tribe, you feel like you can say a little bit more because it's not just the same name that's coming up over and over again. If you're on this smaller tribe, if your name comes up once, it just kind of keeps coming up because it's always easy for everybody to go back to that name because there's nowhere to hide. Whereas on the 10 person, you have more conversations and more different things like that. So I do think that this is, I think that this is very much a product of 10 person tribes. And tonight we didn't get insulted by Jeff, but it is something that us super fans have been clamoring for for a really long time. I know he doesn't like to admit when he's wrong, but I think this is one thing that was a big mistake during the 40s was just constantly going with the six person, six person, six person tribes. I think having a 10 person tribe leads to a little bit more because when it like think about it, if it's a six person tribe in Alexis is talking to Anna and Anna starts throwing out other people's names, Alexis can't go to somebody else. She has to
keep talking to Anna because there's only four other people on that tribe and maybe there's already one or two people she does. She can't stay in. So you don't have as many avenues here. She had four or five people that she could just run over to. I think it's massive to have these bigger tribes. Your paycheck date could soon become the most irrelevant date in your life. Yeah and when speaking of just changing a voter changing like if you have a six person tribe that's pretty locked in on an outcome so let's say it's just a four two vote out of six people.
For example, the only way you're flipping that vote is pulling one person over for a three three tie which is pretty unlikely that someone's going to flip just a four us a tie. So you have to flip two people and if you are with the side of two there are only now two out of four people that you couldn't choose to flip whereas let's say you have a six verse four on a 10 person tribe. Sure, you still need to flip two people but now I can have six different people I can go to. Like you have more avenues to say this is why this is better for your game come with us. It does feel like six people tribes are they're so constrained and they are probably more rigid and that once they decide on something it is just harder to have a dynamic vote or have a vote change where this person's dead derites and now a second before tribal it's totally flipped on them. There's just not as much wiggle. Well, and think about this right like think about this tribe let's just say it was a six person tribe and the three men and three women the three men were Rob Carter and Eric and the three women
were Lanayah Alexis and Anna if Anna and Alexis are having this conversation they really don't have much of a choice but to go with Carter and Rob because like Eric's name is constantly coming up constantly coming up maybe you try to go with him but you have to leave Anna out so you're almost always leaving three people out if you leave if Alexis doesn't feel good with Anna she has to leave Anna out and she doesn't feel good with Carter and Rob so the best she can do is make a three three if she wants to go against Anna so she almost doesn't have a choice in that scenario but stick with Anna and kind of be the outside person and so that's more players means more options and that is on full display in these first two episodes and I honestly believe that these first two episodes have been like such a breath of fresh air I know we're gonna get some bullshit at some point I know that's a worry that everybody has I know will you were focusing on that but at the same time we saw a lot of 20 player seasons where we just have two double boots that would that was how they made up for it I know this is 26 days but at the end of the day we're probably gonna get one
triple boot and maybe two double boots on this season and the triple boot might be brutal or maybe survival learn from their mistakes we're down we get down to 18 players and they just have two people from each like they have each of the losing tribes go to travel council maybe that's something that they do I really really do feel like though this is already showing the massive benefits of bigger starting tribes because the other thing that's happening right now is if we do go to smaller tribes let's say we do go to three three tribes of six at 18 we know so many dynamics in this game right now I know how so many people feel about each other whereas the other time it's like wire soapy and Alex not being friendly I thought that they just survived the disaster tribe together and I don't really understand what the dynamics of a lot of the other people on these tribes are because they haven't gone a tribal or like I don't they I don't know why they would interact or they just met like when you have three tribes separated you're you have fewer chances at relationships even when you even when you swap like but time you get to the merge there's a lot of people who haven't met or haven't even had shared they don't even have like seconding
information at some of these points I think having two especially when we start on the beach everyone knows each other now there's there's a direct connection for every single person remaining in the game and that will be true until the season ends yeah exactly no I think it's great I think it's awesome and I mean we're sitting here and by the way the Yankees are on a little bit of a heater right now I can't help it you know I have a death props here in terms of I know you mentioned last week oh will you were a little bit worried about oh we're still new era because I did watch the episode again I just saw some comments here will you're down I've enjoyed both of these and I'm just gonna be I'm gonna be Jeff from the challenge in the premiere oh god I rewatched the episode that new air energy was there if you like it the the when they do the spirit tower spirit tunnel is brutal come on and I didn't even have that locked in loaded to rebuttal against last week but I am gonna come out and be like that spirit tunnel was the most new era kumbaya group of people we've seen in 11 seasons so I'm just gonna get the spirit tunnel was brutal and
whoever started that should I hope I hope Eric I don't think it was Eric which is a little bit that's foreshadowing me well I wish Eric would have went home to me if he's the one who created that he's on my shawing I should rewatch I rewatched the episode when I made the short video this is my point in counteracting that you had to rewatch the episode to remember the damn spirit tunnel in the spirit tunnel was awful and Alexa brought it up last night before we went live too but at the same time it's not so glaring that it's the thing that's top of mind I feel like everything in the new era that we hated was always so top of mind coming out of the episode so it's less to talk about okay well I think you're wrong in your analysis but I think you're correct and maybe the results I think maybe there wasn't anything else interesting to talk about in the new era because it was growing stale and so the lame things would stand out I remember clearly during season 48 that you opened an entire podcast with a five minute rant about
fried chicken and waffles oh I and I will go on a rant about it again right and that's but that's my point and maybe that it wasn't as cringey or bad or lame or new era but it's like last week the spirit tunnel sucked but there was so much else good that happened that we could focus our attention on the other things that were good whereas in season 48 there was nothing else yeah those are different things and we did not do that so well here's here's my thing too though and I think this is this is this is huge for this okay this cast was doing this on their own fried chicken and waffles was instigated by Jeff and that is I think part of the reason why I go so much harder at that because Jeff is trying his hardest to pull that kind of obnoxious energy out of his cast and make me hate every one of them so much whereas at least he's not there to be like do we spirit tunnel that would be sick there he was like give me B yay yay it's like get the hell out of here but here's why I think it's worse Jeff is one guy and he's this production arm but you have
20 players that have their own decision making powers and that can bring their own energy and sure they're gonna aim up Jeff at a challenge where it's not that consequential or anything but we have a big exile twist that should be a dramatic moment and it is just the cast on their own producing this energy without production getting them there that's almost worse Phil not better because Jeff's not there so but speaking of this because well you know speaking of whales you can be a bit of a dork if everybody if everybody's doing a spirit tunnel on the beach are you doing it or oh 100% exactly and I think that's a big thing I think one person started this and 19 people said well I'm not gonna be the asshole who's like that was corny yeah I don't know I just felt like I had to bring that up because you were giving me heat I got some heat in the comments that this new air energy is made up and then I rewatched I'm like oh will you idiot why didn't you mention the spirit tunnel and shut all these people up so you had to do like yeah so I know I know we have so much to cover in this episode and you're making me talk about episode want unbelievable I'm like
Rob man I'm I'm bringing back the the wounds from last week even though we survived the recap everything's fine we we got a you know great engagement from the community and fans I'm going back and saying you know what I didn't like the spirit tunnel I love that I love that uh anyway so let's talk about the other tribe let's talk about this yellow tribe we haven't gotten to them really Brady cut off a massive chunk of his thumb this was not something that was exaggerated by the next time on survivor he is missing a massive portion of his thumb so large that we're looking at it and this is where I will just you know immediately going from the spirit tunnel to where the new era energy is gone is this right here Brady cut off part of his thumb he's standing there going oh my god I just don't want to be pulled from the game I can't believe I did this please keep me he's not worried at all that he's missing a massive chunk of his thumb he's worried he's going to
get pulled from the game this is such a different energy than you were getting from the new era this happens to any and I'm talking David Kinney Joe from 48 anybody in the new era Jonathan if they chop off that much other thumb I think they're having a much different reaction than Brady had here this is a nut job and I love that I was laughing my ass off during this entire portion this entire segment and you could tell it was lighthearted enough there was no way he was getting pulled from the game you could tell that he was going to stay around and I'm sitting there and I'm watching this and I'm like oh my god I absolutely love all of this and all I could think is like then Kristen later on I don't mean to knock Kristen because I ain't really enjoying her but she like trips in the thing and it's people helping her in I don't know what happened to my foot all this different stuff Brady's out there swimming slap in the table as hard as he can when he's missing part of his thumb she's a different breed and I just appreciate that they're putting that different breed on
survivor again yeah I do as my first thought was this was clearly not a bed-of-back right away just due to the music cues we got the dumbbell music we got the do-do-do-do-do-do-do-do and we like this was a this was a comedic moment which is kind of insane to say that when that large of a part of your body is completely like detached from your body is going to lead to lighthearted music comedy professionals like you said you were laughing the entire time it just doesn't feel like a potential medevac segment but that is that what that was fun and honestly fell from a medical point of view and I am not a doctor trust me no we know I honestly feel like it was better that it that he cut through his thumb entirely and that piece was removed because imagine if you like just it's dangling through it then it's oh my gosh well the risk is you might lose that part
of your thumb or now there's this crevice where it might get infected and you can't really get in there and clean it but now that the tip is just fully removed you have full access to treat it there's no risk of it falling off because it's already falling off so yeah we're about like a bone infection or anything like that Cape works that's also pat holding the thumb was incredible I mean yeah it almost seeshell tray with this partial thumb um I but I'm I'm I'm half kidding but I'm half serious that if he doesn't cut through all the way and it's dangling they might have to pull them so they can stick give him stitches they can like surgery on it yeah like they can say hey you need to like unless you want to lose part of your finger like we got to fix this you're not have a part of your finger your whole life and the way they frame it to us is oh yeah if Brody doesn't leave the game like he literally could lose part of his finger that's what here he lost part of his finger here so there's no reason to pull him from the game yeah no I know and
that's the thing like and Brody's the kind of guy where I could see him ripping it off like if it's like hey we're gonna pull you from the game because we need to do surgery but you're a hundred percent right I mean they would be trying to do a surgery to keep it intact they would like that would probably happen because it's like hey like that was missing that that was so much worse than I thought it was going to be from the preview oh yeah that was so much worse I thought it was gonna be like a little cut that just bled a lot it was no he's missing a massive chunk of his finger and I will say this this really endeared me to Brady a lot more I felt like last episode being so aggressive in the challenge it's a little over the top look I'm competitive I get it Yankee's are up eight one just hit a three run bomb I'm feeling good but like I get the competitive nature of things and wanting to be aggressive but you also have to keep in mind like you're not out there with pro wrestlers right now you're not out there if he played football with other out football energy like you have to be respectful of the people that you're playing this game with they're in your way
to win a million dollars but in that challenge they are your teammate and they're not going to react the same way as other people but then tonight I'm like you know what this guy is just a big goof man that's all it is he's just a big goof he seems very lighthearted very kindhearted it just seems like he's having a good time and he just wants to keep having a good time and he's young as hell and he's gonna be goofy and he's gonna be he's gonna say dumb things he's gonna do dumb things and that's just how it's gonna be and I I thought this was awesome and then when all of a sudden the alliance of Brady Devon jelly Pat and Mike came up I said to myself that's the five I want like that really I will I love that alliance I know that that leaves your girl Jenna out Lewis who we all have like some sort of bond with because he's coming in that leaves out killby but at the end of the day I sat there and I heard that alliance name and obviously this is not gonna be the alliance that runs it there's gonna be too many twists and turns and I loved it the alliance is gonna flip like that the season is what we're learning yeah and but I just I just loved it like I was so happy that he was then a part of the majority alliance as well I just
thought that was so great and I was so pumped for that so good for Brady you've won a fan over in me um I appreciated that so there we go I I enjoy the segment I do there's part of me and I don't want to like put out bad juju onto Brady but but here it comes I mean I gotta say my thoughts that's why we have a podcast right I don't know Brady is giving me a little bit of he might like crack at any point like you know those people and and maybe this is more of a kind of I don't know booze related or instant related thing where you know where oh this person's about to just lose their mind like this person I think they've had one too many beers and now they might get aggressive looking for a fight or just kind of be too much in people's spaces too loud and it might not be again like an alcohol thing that's just my experience with it as someone who's
like not pro wrestling or anything but like could there be a situation where he loses a challenge or he's overly competitive to a point where he is oh we heard like he we heard that he might be too intense for some people you know Alia was not a fan of his intensity at the challenge that wrapped in the wrong way so much so that he got a group of people and didn't we even talk on this podcast that a big reason that we think Brady got the number so easily was like let's not piss that guy off let's keep him in our good graces we need him to win challenges um and look I commend him for losing a part of his finger and the only thing he's thinking about is can I stay in this game make sure I'm not pulled from this game there's nothing more than I want to do than keep playing this game feel you talked about how down you are on quitters and how you are going to judge people for it and how you do take it personally and you take it personally for you know the thousands of fans that do apply and have been applying for years
um and I appreciate a good competitive spirit but there's part of me that sees Brady and says will at some point in season 51 of survivor will he cross a line I'm not saying we have seen it yet but it could be foreshadowing from the storytelling it could just be me picking up on some energy that I've seen you know even in you know playing sports in high school getting to you know I played the cross a contact sport and you see some people when they see an opportunity and they get a little heated up or a call doesn't go their way and they snap their stick or they bang their helmet into somebody and it's like whoa whoa whoa like chill we're still like let's keep it together there's part of me that is seeing a bit of intent not that he shouldn't be intense in competitive that's what we want for the show but will align get crossed that's just a question I'm asking and I I'm saying it now I wouldn't be shocked if we we end up there by by the time the season so I mean Brady's not winning this season okay so when I'm saying he's made a fan out of me I totally get
where you're coming from I think he'll lose it but I'm gonna say this I get that energy way more from Rob than I do from Brady Rob was so over the top intense tonight I couldn't believe it man I really couldn't I think that but I know but the thing is Brady will come back after different Brady will come back after with a smile on his face and be like okay that was too much and I agree with you I think he's gonna lose his mind at some point but it's not gonna be the point of like getting kicked out of the game or anything like that and he's gonna come back with a smile like watching Rhode Island Rob tonight I'm waiting for him to like crack a smile or be like but it's okay he never did that and he just never turned off and and he's giving very serious like I don't know like whatever like like it's not even boomer like whatever gen X energy or maybe it is boomer whatever of like sports are everything winning is everything and when I lose it's not just not funny I'm gonna like rip you apart for it and I'm not gonna be okay with it I'm never gonna be okay with it I'm gonna keep bringing it up and bringing it up but he's only six years older than
we are so I'm sitting here and I'm looking at this guy and I'm like this feels like a massive generational gap in the way that you're handling this because I think that Brady for sure I understand your points and I do think he could crack but I think that just based on how he was tonight how he was after the last challenge when he got back he'll find a way to smile about it Rhode Island Rob tonight never smiled it never got better so I could see him being the one who gets angrier at people and actually snaps in a challenge where eventually people say you know what let's just vote him out no grant that he got to play in another challenge which maybe he's trying to quit and we don't actually watch him play yeah and I did not know nothing to swear we were heading with this podcast or our conversation here it is an interesting one I see the two being very different though in their reaction I think Rob is more powdery and kind of let's let's this loss really tear him apart inside
but I don't know if I see any outward aggression from him I think he might say some words like why didn't we do do this why didn't we do that I think he's thinking about the loss and saying how can we do better next time and the loss I think it the loss really stings and really hurts and he's trying to figure out why and he's coming out but I don't know if I see a a loud aggressive person basically doing anything or even verbally crossing a line what and I think your point about Brady is actually very true that he could smile after but one of those things where he does cross a line in the heat of the moment and then that camp is like all chipper sorry I lost it and then you go wait a second it has happened one too many times and I don't look I'm not saying we're there yet or at all close to getting there I just see a potential for Brady crossing a line and I think we saw what we saw Rob tonight lose a challenge he's pissed all he did was call out his teammates for oh why weren't you blindfolded you were like that doesn't ever cross a line that's
just pouty and being a sore loser to me that's very different than I don't know I don't know what Brady's capable of I feel like Rob was such a sore loser and couldn't let it go when he's the kind of guy who's gonna dwell and dwelling dwell I'd much rather be around a Brady than a Rob that's my take on it I guess what I'm saying it and you might be right though the longer dwelling and anger I think Rob will take the cake there but the what's the higher ceiling of the most outrageous act that you could commit and eat in the moment I would give that to Brady and to me that's more scary yeah Trav Harrod and TJ Bright both bring it up Jamie from Guatemala here which I think is fair I think it's fair sure yeah I just I'm just seeing that there might be a potential there and I'm not rooting for it by any means but I you you know who I'm taught like people who know people who get a little bit too competitive a little bit too fired up it does happen yeah and you're waiting for the joke part to happen and then it doesn't so all right well well let's talk about the eliminated
players and I'm not talking about Anna I'm talking about Carter Tanan and Christian how do you feel about the fact that none of those three can win Survivor now I don't think I had any three winning this season heading into this episode so I don't know they might get eliminated from our podcast you know in terms of confessions you know how how many that should be it instead of along with the confessional account it's the specialist count how much did Phil and Will talk about this player in the recap and I think we go by minutes instead of instances since we are an audio podcast and we don't have you know there's no cut time we start like when it how many times you could count so yeah I mean Carter was maybe the one you could have said how to chance Christian we got nothing from the premiere Tanan I think we got basically nothing from the premiere so I don't know if those two people were ever sniffing the victory and then Carter I guess you could have made a case for but he was he always felt like a secondary character
my internet just cut was that my internet or Phil's internet let me know in the chat who's going to know is that me while you were talking my internet just totally cut I'm back now they got our new cups brought to you by top cups top cups there you go go by top cups they have for all the NFL teams bunch of college teams all that sorry my internet just totally went out but it's fine now I just had a refresh stream yard so I don't know what that was but what what I know what your point was I think I remember what your point was who are you talking about you're talking about Carter you talking about the people you didn't think we're gonna win anyway I'm surprised Carter felt very relevant in this episode despite the fact that Carter didn't get a confessional I felt like he was very much a part of this episode yeah that surprises me because if we heard from him he was involved in the crab conversation that got misconstrued he was sitting there when uh Anna was talking about popcorn which was a big scene so it's he was very present in the strategy but look you didn't vote the right way now and he he did ask how to spell air that was so funny to me that
really made me think of season 40 where Jeremy and Tony are talking about days of the week in Tony's going yeah there's five days in a week and Jeremy's like no man it's it's seven and Tony's like no you got the week and then you got the week and and Jeremy's like no no well no the week end is just the last two days of the seven day week and he's like no and you're like it's a hundred percent seven days like what do you talk I've never even heard of what do you what do you I mean I know there's a business week and everything but or business days this felt like Carter was so confident that oh yeah no I've seen it spelled with an A sometimes it's like have you who yeah like where did you see that and if it was it probably wasn't pronounced Eric who's probably pronounced something else yeah I was thinking of ways to spell it I was like how how how do like what wouldn't a Eric look like and I was not thinking of a RIC I was thinking maybe it's
a R RICK and I thought that's where it was going and so once once I saw the a RIC on the parchment I was like all right this guy has got to be completely off his rocker you remember I know because we're you're a baseball fan enough you remember Sean shanfiggins no you don't remember Sean Figgins so Sean Figgins spelled his first name I think it was CHO NNE or something like that it was spelled Sean and so like there's a probably a bunch of people whose first interaction with the name Sean was spelled like that like a bunch of kids in this guy's class and that's Eric he has or I'm sorry that's Carter he has one kid who was in his class that was spelled ARIC and then he forever thought that that's the normal way growing up um yeah I just think about that shown yeah CHO NNE Sean Figgins that was the best I was like what where'd you get Sean from that um but yeah I I felt like Carter was much more prevalent in this episode but you were also talking about
whether you were saying like specialist points who are we talking about a lot and who are we not when again when I was doing the Aubrey and Wentworth podcast we didn't do the full power rankings because I had two guests on so I didn't want to talk about everybody we almost didn't bring up Mike or Anna at all and so I'm very surprised that Anna went home in this episode she wasn't in anybody's bottom five or top five and I'm just kind of surprised that like none of us even mentioned her as a person who could potentially go home but we also I think the only thing we talked about whether it was that confessional she had that was really cool talking about all the players on her tribe we didn't talk about like anything else so to see her go in that way too also a little bit of an old school feel of didn't really get a lot of content in that first episode and they still were willing to get rid of her so they can keep highlighting some of their more main characters yeah I'm into we we need to read into the specialist edit now I think that's where we have to go like is Mike now short for this game and look we didn't hear a lot from Mike
tonight we got him kind of name checked in this five person alliance on the yellow tribe that what is that five it is Brady Devin jelly Mike and Pat who's the first name Brady Brady okay yeah yeah and Mike we Mike's confessional tonight was about Brady cutting his finger off right it wasn't about that new five personal alliance and that's me would surprising yeah yeah but I guess he's not he's not eliminated yet because he had a confessional yeah he did have a confession look and that's what matters and Devin after 12 last week had one tonight one Jenna only had two so look they're spreading the wealth a little bit and that's good like maybe you will make it so we can't read between the lines but Carter Christian to none I'm out on all three of you now because I didn't hear from you at all especially Christian and Carter you both went to tribal council tonight if they're not giving you your own screen time when you're going to tribal council you don't have a chance of winning Christian even more so than Carter Carter I at least knew where he stood in this
episode Christian felt like he just ended up in the line and Christian votes for Anna and he was never mentioned as a potential Anna vote no no and he was Kristen no Christian and Kristen cast the deciding vote for anybody who's playing the prop that game Kristen's vote was the one that was ultimately the deciding vote or the one that was shown at the end which you know part of me it's like you don't always know but maybe they're thinking hey you know Kristen maybe he was driving this a little bit more than what we saw maybe like from on the island it might seem like she was doing a little bit more than maybe she was so I don't know just just interesting that it was Kristen you did that I was surprised when I saw Kristen and Christian both voted that way because it seemed like based on what Charando was saying is we need you orie if we don't get you we're probably not going to be able to pull this off and then orie just said I'm not going to do it and they still pulled it off and they pulled it off easily yeah no it was like that that was the most confusing part of this episode and I do got to figure out what is what is the short form video for this week I don't
know anyone watching where we're looking to make you know once a week short form video that's not a full-length podcast a breakdown some topic of the episode and you know I think one is what was Rob's plan and how to like parse that all out and we talked through it but maybe if we can figure this out we make the short form video about what's what was going on with orie and Charando they did not vote together and they didn't end up needing his vote even like there's a lot that we didn't see based on the votes that we got at Travel Council yeah do you think that this is the theme of the season of hey people not voting together but still wanting to be allies I mean Devin and Brady immediately saying this and now we're seeing this here where it doesn't seem like Ori and Charando are done no I doubt it because they I mean Charando told us tonight that orie is her number one like he's like don't let anybody know but orian I like this cross their fingers um I do think that might be a theme of the season it might
be a theme of the open era as Brady and Devin tried to say like this is how we're playing like we were up front with each other we each wanted a different person out we rallied our numbers we we voted the way we did Devin side lost her you know him and Joe it didn't seem like it was your thing a unanimous vote where we need to cover two yeah you're right it did seem like jelly and Devin really we're in the dark on that voter at least said we don't know if we have the numbers in the middle but damn we're gonna try anyway and put votes on to Jenna in case we do have the numbers so um it could be a theme I mean it's it's not not that new about theme I mean yeah we're thankful that they haven't seen survivor enough to know the history and and the gameplay and the strategy and alliances that they don't know enough about the show to know that this isn't a new thing like we had a whole season of voting blocks in season 31 two seasons later we have trust clusters so it's not like this is brand new I'm trying to think I guess this is maybe a little bit different since instead of a trust cluster voting block where it's more smaller groups moving through the
game together which was kind of the idea this is very much word together like Phil you and me are together we know we're not voting the same way but we know word together and maybe that is a little bit different of a wrinkle and maybe I should give that more credit but it's not like we've been in this rigid oh there's one alliance this alliance against each other and that's it like we've had fluid alliances for 20 seasons now and what's really funny about it is um it actually gives off the vibes of Australian survivor a little bit um I know you never obviously watch the season but for anybody who is familiar with it a J and Miles the way they played the game they were close allies who just bounced back and forth and it was like hey I want this move hey I want this move well I'm gonna do this this time and they just kept playing together though and it's giving that vibe but the other thing that Australian survivor does is they always start with bigger tribes so there's more wiggle room to make those kinds of moves and make those kinds of decisions and say this time I'm going to go on my own and next time I'll go with what you want to do but you
can be more forgiving because you're not going to feel as betrayed when you come back to camp and say oh no my closest allies gone his closest ally is still here now I'm the Russell Swan to the Malcolm and Denise I don't want to be the Russell Swan to the Malcolm and Denise even if Angie and Roxy are still here and we still we don't know that we're going to be the disaster tribe yet so that to me is you know something that I think is playing into this I think the bigger tribes are better I know I keep saying that yeah yeah I agree but what do you what happened with Ori why did he not vote for Anna he did vote for Eric and then Shronda and Lanana and Alexis were able to get all these other votes together like Kristen and Christian obviously Eric voted with them so what what was it that happened I mean was it as simple as Ori said no let's go for the layup Eric's the layup we're going to vote that way Alexis Linnea and Shronda are not satisfied so they approach Christian and Kristen and say hey like this is what we're thinking we don't have the numbers
would you do this with us and then there we go is it as simple as that or did Ori like did Ori go into that tribal council knowing Shronda was voting Anna or not I guess that's the that's the key question that really matters so I don't think it mattered to Ori I think Ori being that he's not a big fan and doesn't really understand the game is gonna automatically play this in a old school and what is the old school fashion do you think this is a little bit pretty? to send me off I gotta vote this person out I can't stand them I'm sorry Shronda I need to go this route if it doesn't work out I'll come back like this isn't personally against you I just can't stand Eric I think that's what it came down to I think Ori truly was just aggravated by Eric so much that that's who he wanted to vote out and he felt that enough people were aggravated by Eric and I think that this is also where Ori's lack of real social game because Ori's very social and so far Ori is the most convincing you can go up to Ori and he's very calm he's close yeah
all right I'll think about it no I don't like that idea but like you can he's approachable 100% and he is yeah he's very very concise and and but I think what's happening is I think his game is almost too concise I don't think that he has enough relationships with everybody and so I think he's hearing well this is what people are saying and he's spending a lot of time with Carter he's spending a lot of time with Rob spending a lot of time with Shronda I don't think he's spending much time with Kristen necessarily I don't think he's spending a lot of time with Christian necessarily and I could be wrong about the names that I'm throwing out but I think that there are some people that he's just not communicating with that much and I think ultimately what that is leading to is him not really realizing where all the motivations are he's not understanding that Kristen and Christian who are both die hard survivor fans would be willing to not vote out Eric here and instead vote out Anna because it's going to help their alliance rather than get rid of the person who's annoying and he's just assuming everybody's kind of the same way of length as him because that's also what Carter and Rob and all of them are saying so I do think
that he's letting a lot of people do like the communicating for him right now and that is ultimately while he's voting wrong but he asked sure I mean he said we got that from him last week he said to Shronda hey you got to do the numbers and strategy like I'm good with you I trust you but you got to run this other part of the game for me and so it is surprising when Shronda comes up and says hey this is the best move for us and then they don't end up voting together but I do agree with everything that you just said yeah yeah and I like like so let's let's talk about the other women involved in this because I don't think we've really given I don't know who who we're supposed to give credit to and this is from an edit perspective I always like to fill in the willy so we do have to do the filling exactly so when I look at this from an edit perspective because there's still a lot to talk about in this episode no we're over an hour in and normally we don't go that much longer but this might be like a full hour and a half to Will Shagran you better drink some water buddy like what who is getting the credit in your eyes here I love it I love it the top cup looks nice aluminum guys they're nice um oh wait who's getting the credit here in your eyes
from the edit because Linnea Alexis Shoronda Kristen Christian and who's the other person who voted the right way Kristen Christian Eric Shoronda Eric was the other one yeah like like like were we supposed to be saying wow they did such a good job pulling that together because in my eyes it feels like Alexis and Shoronda Linnea was third in that list but I feel like some people are gonna argue it's Linnea first I think it was for the vote specifically I would go Shoronda was the leader who said let's make the actual vote happen I think Alexis is owed credit for laying seeds early before they even lost an immunity challenge I think a lot of times until you lose an immunity challenge you kind of sit on your you rest on your laurels a little bit and just say hey I don't need to talk strategy I don't need to throw names out but I think Alexis was getting weird vibes from Anna clearly she wasn't fitting in but that's what's so weird
she says she's not fitting in well people are not really trusting her and then she's able to immediately say something that isn't true to Shoronda and Linnea they both immediately trust her it's like you clearly weren't doing that badly if you can go up to two people and they immediately are like just fully confiding in you so Alexis credit for putting the plan in motion but Shoronda is the one who you know by going to Ori and I know Ori did not vote with them but the one to really it seems like and if we did have the scenes of Christian and Kristen learning about this plan and deciding to go along with it I would imagine Shoronda is at the forefront of those conversations over in Alexis and over Linnea yeah yeah I think you're right I mean man Shoronda is impressing the hell out of me and I know that you and I were both so low on her from the initial video I can't believe I've had to say this so many no but you and I both thought she had nothing going there we thought she was gonna be like invisible we didn't think she was gonna be
that big I was just like she's not entertaining or charismatic what I think she is I think that's why she's impressing me I don't know I always thought from a game point she's probably one of the surest bets to make the merch is I don't think she's gonna piss them anyone off I think she's going to be very level headed probably pretty quiet like I'm not shocked that this is the game we're getting from Shoronda and then she's got a great head on her shoulders for me it was like she was so monotone and just so kind of boring in her casting stuff and I think you put a player who might not look like great like Brady you can put Brady in in a chair for 60 minutes or 60 seconds only and say talk to me tell me what's your vibe you're like oh that guy can give a good confessional that guy is going to be fun TV bring him on survivor he's never going to win the game you don't know what like he's not gonna perform well in within the format and I think you could put a lot
of people and this is probably quite a few people who go through casting and never end up on the show and say all right you got 60 seconds in the chair convince me you're gonna make good TV and they flounder and they're not fun or interesting but you put that same person who doesn't pop on camera when it's just a random thing but you put them within the confines of a social strategy game like survivor like traders like werewolf whatever big brother like if they you put that person who has followed these shows love these shows knows how to play these shows that person who you thought was boring and couldn't give a good confessional is suddenly going to be running the show popping off the TV screen because of the environment that they're in and I honestly feel like sure on the kind of fits into that where she is still monotone to me she still doesn't have the metaphors or the quips or the energy she doesn't have the metaphors or the quips if you aren't getting served at the table then you're on the menu that's incredible that's incredible that is that is that is good that is
good that wasn't tribal and not at in a confessional but sure you're right but that's that's I don't think sure ronda like came up with that on her own like I think that's a thing she came up that on the spot she remembers to say it in that moment remember to say it which I think is different um I do I do what's this mean put the mic down just saying like that's enough well you know that's all Alex is just saying oh okay well I thought Phil but I think it's like more Phil drop the mic there I think I think you know I think you need to put the mic it's very much how when do the crystal will to put the mic down yeah I think it's more like we could both put the mic down because I think you gave me a drop the mic moment and if you give someone a drop the mic moment you're the one dropping the mic Phil and here we go official joke car that's a common phrase lol but could well yeah I mean I'd never heard what I'm saying is I I think there are people who might not pop as
that person's gonna be TV but do you put them in the right environment within the game they know and love so shironda hasn't been better to you than you thought she was gonna be because I feel like she's been infinitely better than I think she has been I think she has I think she's got a good head on her shoulders like I'm ready I feel like you haven't listened to a word I've said I definitely said I'm asking you a very simple question because you're beating around the bush is she better than you thought she was going to be that's the only I just want to guess her note of that that's all I'm asking yes she is better than I thought she's going to be from a tv perspective okay that's all I wanted to know I think she's a very comfortable she's very comfortable playing this game yes yes I get what you're saying there I just the way the way you were initially saying almost felt like you were still cheering to be like as she's really I think she's been a lot better on TV than I thought she was going to be and that's kind of the point which was my whole point that it's the format and the environment she's in allows her to shine through and be more in her entertainment yeah Patrick J. Stahl film mentions Chris Noble more than any survivor not in the top 20 of all time that's because we're still covering ghost island over
on the patreon patreon.com slash specialist go listen to talk about it because he's not in the top 20 also yeah also like in terms of characters he's playing yeah look we've talked for an hour and 11 minutes and there's one thing we haven't talked about the way my winner pick has an idol my winner pick got an idol tonight everybody was giving me a hard time last week when jelly's getting into her showman's with orry and oh my god I thought I'm disappointed in her I thought she was going to play a more strategic game and do this and do that not only is she the reason that they win with the put put the thing on the the bean bag on the stick which I thought was fun that was a different version of a channel you've seen ever that was fun but she then goes back and everybody celebrating she says I took that time to go find an idol and she found one and it is another regular idol and now my winner pick has an idol has the hottest man of all time on the other tribe so that's fine they're gonna get together at some point
and it seems like she is building up an alliance she is part of the group of five we already know that there was the helicopter alliance so if she does hit a merge if she's a ronda and orry are both there she's probably staying in the game even though her head might get out of the game if orry gets too close but like this is I think she is positioning herself absolutely perfectly and I was so pumped when she went and she found that idol and I was even more pumped that it was just another regular idol that's two regular idols on the season to start off I love that I don't I okay I actually do format games I know I love that it's a normal idol but if you're giving me permanent uncertainty I love that if one idol is just an idol and then another idol on another tribe is like all right now you gotta do this laundry list of cookie things with all like like are we going to this point of let's strip away everything and again I prefer this but the whole
mantra of permanent uncertainty just feels like like tonight was the most like there was no uncertainty tonight this was the most down the line survivor episode like if you look at episode one of survivor okay there's idols so let's say look at season 14 but even season 14 had X-Tile Island if you want to go and just say okay season 30 is just some more three millennials versus Gen X or sure some oh we have two tries we got a reward challenge get some camp life got to me a challenge one person finds an idol and there's nothing crazy you got to do about it like there's no there's no forget about permanent uncertainty how about zero uncertainty and maybe that's what's uncertain at this stage of survivor you just don't expect this and remember saying this now in two weeks when Jeff's like you're gonna do a quadruple blood moon we're gonna eliminate 12 of you if you look at me funny and it's gonna be as game assignment says but I don't I'm not gonna tell you who Simon is and like when that happens will and you're just like I
wish there was no more permanent uncertainty I get it here's the thing though look at me this when you're permanent uncertainty I know what you're saying I'm not existed at all the first two ups well and I think it's coming and it's kind of the slow build right you're in a murder mystery right now in the bird I'm not excited for yeah exactly I think though it's kind of what happened with the Billy Irish boomerang idol they're almost scared for some reason to give the two tribes different things they feel like both tribes have to start with the same amount of XYZ the Billy Irish boomerang idol like you said the whole point of this is like not to have everybody know that this is the thing that's in the game and now everybody knows that it's in the game because it's the same one on all three tribes and they're doing the same thing here I feel and this is where this is just so positive for me we had no journeys tonight which we have to talk about Lewis coming back from the journey but we had no journeys tonight and we just had them find normal idols so we were able to spend more time on other stuff whether that was the the horrible
sketch comedy what I improv that was terrible like but that's the stuff that I'd rather spend time on I would rather spend time on the actual characters and on the camp life because I will say for a 20 person cast Tanon was a relevant tonight was not a part of this episode Christian really wasn't a part of this episode so neither no exactly neither one of them were but I feel like the other 18 people definitely had a confession all tonight didn't he no what am I thinking of where I'm like answer Jeff at tribal council that's what it was yeah he answered a question of tribal he answered a question of tribal but but my point is I feel like I'm getting to know these other 18 people beyond just what their game strategy is and all that like I feel like I am getting good quality time with these players beyond just confessionals because if you go back and watch the older seasons of survivor you'll see like somebody like I don't know like even like Visepio all the back in season 4 it's like oh god she had like 29 confessions or something you but Visepio is a part of so many conversations that don't need a confessional it's just her sitting next to Sean Rector on the
beach or her and Kathy or her and Nalia like there's so many conversations that she's a part of but the show especially in the 30s and we really saw it with ghost island it started to get away just the regular conversations every time somebody would have a conversation they would cut to somebody narrating that conversation and I feel like this season hasn't really just focused on narrating the conversations it's allowing the conversations to take place Carter and Ori having the conversation about the crabs and then the Naya running over to everybody we had like a solid minute there before the Naya gets confessionals saying I caught them right handed because they just let it play out and that's not something they would do and I think they feel like they have more time to do that because they're not doing journeys because they're not doing all this other nonsense and that's phenomenal that's good stuff we need that so I'm happy with with these decisions and the fact that journeys and you know random tasks for idols aren't in the game because it's giving us more quality time with a very large cast and honestly I think that is the best part
about these simple idols I don't know if I could you know we went through here are a dozen different ways that idols worked on the new era what do you think it's this cool is this fun and I might go you know what that like cipher thing was kind of fun are those boxes where you had to gamble and then you had to find them that was kind of fun but you're just looking that those mechanics in a vacuum and saying do you like them do you not what you have to think about is the opportunity cost and that anytime you have an idol with complicated rules and a mechanism of achieving them in some way is that you're spending so much screen time on the antics it takes to get the idol and that's just less time we're spending with the cast getting to know them and I think that's the best part it's not that I hate the creative game mechanics or ways that we can conjure up oh my gosh you know Sue got blood on her hands wow like I think that there's merits to the creativity of all that but it's a it's a cost of time like we live with survivor on a network show I know a
lot of things are fully streaming and your episodes can be 10 minutes longer whatever I know we're in an hour with 90 minute episodes but the more time like the whole point of an idol and why it's good is never really been the search it's always been when they're played and so let's fast forward through the search and just get them in people's hands this is such a good decision for the show like you couldn't feel it in the episodes where you're not talking about idols at all the improv thing was great not because the improv itself was great don't mention my words here the improv was terrible but you get Shuronda rolling her eyes like oh my god this is I gotta keep my mouse shut you're getting more of who these people are as opposed to like I need to now figure out this clue and look at this painted branch and then memorize this number it's like that all doesn't mean anything to us yeah I totally agree with you because I feel like what is happening there is you're watching the same one or two people try to solve a problem and you're getting their narration
now that ends up in the hands of somebody who ultimately isn't going very far or isn't your main character this happened a lot on journeys right like we watch an episode where Justin Piotr he goes on this crazy long journey and then we just watch him get like voted out anyway that episode so like I feel like it is a good thing to just allow it to be if this person finds a regular idol we can spend as much time as we need to on that person finding the idol because they ultimately know if jelly is gonna win this game or not they ultimately know if they if jelly is gonna be one of the stars of the season so they can decide how much time to put on jelly but if you're making jelly do this and then go find a cipher and do this and do this and do this and jelly is gonna ultimately get 17th place or something like that maybe you don't want to spend a bunch of time with her because you'd rather spend time with other people who are going to be more important to the season and that's something that you know you didn't have total control over in the forties when you're sending who knows who on a journey or get in there and then you have to watch them play out of losing their vote or not losing their vote or whatever nonsense is going on right and I don't want to get two
in the weeds on this but if I'm really thinking about how did we even get here and with the journeys and the idols I think the idols themselves have always worked and for a while though in the late thirties it felt like the editors had run out of ideas on how to frame an idol search and so I think to Jeff it was like okay we've seen an idol get found a million times we keep showing the same scene over and over again how do we mix this up oh let's throw in a ladder for Angelina oh let's do a mystery box or let's do a special journey or how do we make these idols feel different let's do a puzzle you have to get this clue and even though that's how we started I mean that's literally how we started was going to exile island finding a clue it was very big and you get more clues and it's almost like we've come full circle we went full island full segment one idol a season with clues and then it became wait you can find them without clues they're at camp you can just
find them find them and then it was like wait a second these are getting repetitive and so we added all these mechanics and Jeff we've realized maybe Jeff I mean we don't need all these mechanics just find the idol and it's guess what it's okay it's okay if someone goes in the woods and finds an idol do you hear anyone online being like oh wow that idol fine Felix felt exactly like you know who who came finding an idol in one world I don't even know if she found an idol in one world but you get my point like no one people are praising this and I think Jeff really what pushed him to go that way because I remember this was part of the time when I was involved in the show it on the crew was that we have to come up with creative ways of finding idols because it can't just be fine in a tree can't just be fine in the bush it's gotta be there's gotta be something to it to be interesting and just because of that novelty that was the interesting thing now we've said novelty we don't need because the characters are the most interesting thing and it's so good for the show 100% I mean I remember it goes to Island again I just keep bringing it up but this was
when Alexa and I were like how many times do we need to hear Dom talk about his idol like that's all he was talking about and like you said it really feels like a peeking caggy on mad idol hunt when Wu is doing his ninja stealth mode and he's gonna go do whatever he's gonna do and everybody's running around that was the most exciting and they never got to that high again you know you'd have some interesting mechanics like in goko wrong that was production though that was just that's what I'm saying that we didn't try to make it back to that was in fensors you know swim trunks and then we went back to the river and it was like that's it came from the characters but by the end of the 30s it was like every idol had some emission attached so that it didn't you'll steal and that just robbed us of screen yeah well because in co wrong when they have the big stick and they're trying to poke it out and then Kyle Jason just throws Alicia onto the ground so he get it like that they started off with simple mechanics then had to get more and more complicated and it was like look most of the time they're gonna figure this out anyway do I need to watch something with a 95% success rate right they don't they never failed any of these things like
this was just delayingly inevitable um one other thing I want to talk about before we do the feeling of Willie is just Lewis coming back we didn't really actually hear all that much from Lewis we're the confessional time tomorrow but the confessional count tonight he only had two um so just to go through the confessional count real quick Lanayah Rob Charando all had the most with five Brady and jelly for Alexis Kilvig orie Pat with three Eric Jenna Kristen Lewis Maggie with two Devon Mike with one and then Carter Christian Tanon with none Anna who went home I'm not sure exactly how many she had but what did you think about Lewis coming back in do you feel good about him do you feel like him being as overshadowed as he was by what took place tonight is bad for his game like what do you think's gonna happen with him you also have kill be saying I definitely think Lewis has an idol I'm good at reading and that was the other part that I wanted to mention of people getting reads wrong but somehow being right or like getting it wrong but like they'll probably be able to convince people we had Lanayah talking about the crabs we also had we had kill be here saying I have a really good read on people I think he has an idol when he doesn't have an idol and that's just
Kilvig being wrong right he's fully wrong just I mean Lanayah was fully wrong also fully wrong yeah the funny part was that we heard the crowd conversation before like I he like Carter used the exact words unless it was clever editing an ADR I think Carter said they're on to us they're on to us almost in front of Lanayah which might have been that just funnier yeah no kill be having the falls read not good but Lewis I don't know I don't like he's not one of my winner candidates anyway the weird part was when did he get his buff he comes back and says I don't even have a buff and then there's not some moment at the challenge where Jeff toss him y'all it's official lock it in like it just he just not have a buff maybe it's when they first go to tribal oh this would be crazy they go to tribal after they lose and then they say well you have a tribe of nine plus Lewis and they go huh Lewis is a tribal does in that Jeff goes well does he have a buff does he have a buff
he has to have a buff wait the comments are saying they give at the reward challenge okay but at this time that would be a fun twist it's like yeah the highland ask yeah it's like well we never gave you a buff and then Lewis is yeah no he's not voting but he's also not getting voted out sorry I mean it'd be crazy to give him back-to-back immunity but I I think like Lewis didn't feel like he integrated at all and they didn't focus on him at all despite a big part of the season I feel like we get a lot about how he's fitting into his new tribe and that just was never at all I'm to be honest with you too I felt good about Jenna surviving last week I don't really feel all that good about Jenna as like a winner potential after tonight because she got it out of the way early and then we like didn't hear from her again we're not hearing about who she's aligned with we're hearing about a different alliance it was just her being like I'm gonna learn from my lesson and I'm gonna survive but it almost felt more so fee belayrty-ish to me when she got through the
disaster tribe she had like one or two confessionals right away and then kind of vanished for a little because they were more focused on the other people who were gonna you know she makes it to the end obviously but they have to start telling the other stories of other people Jenna and Lewis I'm surprised we heard so little from them tonight and it really stood out to me and I agreed I think Lewis is very short for this game but Jenna I feel like that takes a little bit. We got the confessional that you would need you got the back from tribal I recovered I'm here to stay and then her tribe didn't go to tribal so much of that tribe's camp life was about Brady and cutting his thumb off I do think we even heard about Brady's thumb from Jenna so we did check her there and then once you get to the meeting challenge it's like all right well we don't need to hear from that tribe so I'm not gonna hold that too much against Jenna. All right that's fine I get in filling willy filling willy man the filliest tough this week because you know we had some good
gameplay I gotta I gotta think like we're into like later seasons now with the filly we're past 50 I feel like I can give the filly for any reason I want to players now it doesn't it doesn't necessarily just been true fill yeah but we always try to do like who had the best episode from like a gameplay perspective or something like that but I have to because this is my award I'm given the filly to the person who entertained me the most tonight and I am gonna go with Brady I thought about Rob but trying to quit just I can't give you what what you thought about Rob for the filly just because it was one of the most entertaining shenanigans I've ever seen in my entire life I said I can do any reason I want I'm picking Brady for the filly because Brady absolutely entertained the shit out of me tonight he chopped off part of his thumb he went full just man energy crazy I just don't want to get pulled from this game we see him breaking down crying saying what any idiot is he's hugging the doctor he's so pumped talking to the doctor he's slamming the table with that hand I found him to just be so entertaining and look I could give it to the neck you give it
the shuranda I could give it to Alexis probably would go to Alexis in that scenario just because she's the one who made all that happen but I feel like I'm gonna get a lot more opportunities to give them the filly throughout the rest of the season I don't feel like Brady's gonna get any opportunities for a strategic standpoint tonight he made the episode for me so I have to go with it are you kidding me? Yes Devon at the challenge that is also a good point yes yeah sure um I don't know how you were considering Rob for this we have a player who attempted to write their own name down on parchment and the producers had to tell him no and this is after he made a big spectacle of getting one player up out of their seat right before they're going to vote it's gotta be Rob or the willy I mean no one tank their game more he's not winning uh he potentially is quitting he's got a lot of eyes a lot of suspicion plus his plan not only did it not work the way he wanted it to with writing his name down or with Eric playing shot in dark but
even if everything went according to his plan he didn't know enough about his tribe of where the votes were actually going and his plan wouldn't have worked anyway so like it has got to be Rob so let me ask you this question since you don't jump on these podcasts so you won't be talking about predictions and stuff next week is Rob gone next week or you think he survives I think he survives you think he survives yeah I think I think a lot of that quit stuff not that it's not real I think it's it's very real but if you can get over that hurdle and I think the whirlwind he went through with writing his own name down his plan now worth working producer saying no and then he writes down Eric and then Anna gets the votes out of nowhere then he's like I don't even know what's going on I think it was part of Rob that was saying look I have the numbers Eric is an obvious boot I feel bad for the kid my heart's not in this let me make a big splash let me make
this about me I'll play an idol on Eric I'll vote myself out this will be a grand tv moment I go back to my wife and kids I think now that Anna has gone home and he didn't have the read I think that competitive drive like whoa I did not think this was what I thought it was that might just drive him to stay in this game a little bit longer and and like I said I think once you experience it and go through it you've lived with it now you get a night's sleep you wake up the next morning there's a beautiful sunrise and BG as we talked about you got the idol in your pocket and go you know what instead of quitting I'm gonna win a million bucks for him like I could see that happen with Rob so I hope that I hope that's his mentality I hope we don't get just a quit yeah I don't think he's gonna quit I don't think it'd be quits though it's probably better for the season that's probably a blood moon we're avoiding that is true but I don't think he's gonna quit because I think at the end of the day like you're saying you're gonna wake up the next day realize it didn't work and just say look there's three weeks left yeah there's a difference between putting your torch down at camp first making a spectacle of tribal and go on in like a ball flames yeah they're very different
and I wanted to be memorable and he even was saying like oh like this could be the first time we've ever seen this in survivor history and then he's turning around and he's saying the producer we actually have the producer breaking the fourth wall earlier in one of his confessional saying do you have a plan for 90 says I always have a plan he wanted to make his TV moment because and he was gonna go out that way if he couldn't go out in a big TV moment that's what I'm saying he's gonna stick around he's not gonna throw the towel at camp I agree um all right so in terms of all of you who are playing in the prop that game let me just read off the correct answers for all of those because we do have all of them already so for those we had whoa I just hit the wrong button everybody hang on um so Kristen was the last vote shown first person shown holding the immunietta was Maggie who absolutely killed it uh for them in the challenge she came in in relief of Tanana and was able to get the win uh there was no puzzle tonight Shoranda was the first person Jeff talked to a tribal
Lanayah Rob and Shoranda were tied for the most at tribal council Jeff didn't say open error tonight by the way for anybody who is worried about the over under game he said it in the previously on but that was it nobody mentioned a previous survivor player who didn't get a confessional Carter Christian Tanana who said idle that was jelly killby Lewis or a pat and Shoranda mouth blurred and because that Rob it was other than Rob who love their mouth blurred Alexis Anna Brady Eric Kristen Maggie Mike and Rob all had their mouths blurred and who will say Jeff Brady and Carter both said Jeff so those are all of the prop ads for this week um tomorrow night since there is no traders because NBC somehow has the wild car round of the playoffs which might only be one game at this point because the Yankees and White Sox both sweat um would have been hilarious if it was four sweeps and NBC didn't put the traders on and there was no game but here we are um since there is no traders tomorrow Blake and I will be live right at five o'clock Pacific eight o'clock Eastern we'll be talking about dig we'll be digging deeper into episode number two uh John and Alex Triage will be on after that episode to
discuss the challenge which I think is in its 10th episode already and then this weekend I have R.I.Z.G.O.D. Riz Godbe on the podcast at noon Eastern 9 a.m. Pacific on Sunday.
