Counterterrorism police in the UK have five men under a rest on suspicion of preparing a terrorist act near a major air base. Gloucestershire police say the incident occurred near RAF Fairford. An airfield used by the US Air Force for military operations against Iran. The suspects were initially held under the Explosives Act.

1:05The CBC's Julia Chapman has details on the ongoing investigation. Police received a call at 12.45 in the morning local time. Three suspicious vehicles were heading towards an air force base in Gloucestershire. Armed officers intercepted them in a neighboring village and arrested five men. British Army bomb disposal units were called in to inspect the three white vans and around 85 homes have been evacuated. Julian Tudzbury was among those who had to leave their homes. He was woken up early this morning by a knock on the door from police officers. They said, uh, this has been a major incident and we need you to leave immediately. Residents have been told they may need to spend the night away from their homes as the police operation continues. Richard O'Conn is from the local police force. Work to establish the full nature of this incident is ongoing. We are working closely with our partners in counterterrorism policing. The airbase RAF Fairford hosts a contingent from the American Air Force. It has used

2:10the base to launch attacks against Iran. Earlier this year Iran's revolutionary guard told the UK that made it a legitimate target. Britain's telegraph newspaper is quoting sources who say an Iran link is considered to be likely. Officials are also on high alert for potential Russian hybrid attacks. For now, police have made no mention of a potential motive and released no details about the five suspects they're currently questioning. Julia Chapman, CBC News, London. Iran says it's waiting for an official response through mediators after US President Donald Trump publicly rejected its latest peace proposal. There's no solution other than an negotiated settlement based on dignity and justice, one that secures the rights of the Iranian people and fulfills their legitimate demands. Only a negotiated solution can get them out of this deadlock. Eradji adds that Iran will decide its next steps once Cateri negotiators formally deliver Washington's position. In Northern Ireland, thousands of residents linked arms today to block a pro-British Protestant parade through their neighborhood. Tempers flared after an overnight court ruling gave permission to the orange order to march through the predominantly Catholic area for the first time in 28 years. The court approved a scaled-down march of 35 members walking silently without bands or supporters, but local residents stood arm and arm across the street to halt the

4:13procession. Here we have an organization that is openly a sectarian, propeds members of this community to even join them. Once the march through this community, it should not be permitted just to see them as racist march marches should not be permitted. Heavy security is deployed in the area, including armed armed police vehicles and helicopters. Police ultimately advised marchers not to proceed, though the standoff remains tense in Germany. Emergency crews are on the scene of a fatal crash west of Munich after a bus carrying Filipino tourists veered off the highway and overturned. At least two people are dead and 19 others injured. Authorities say the vehicle was traveling from Milan to Munich for October fest when it crashed early this morning. Police are currently notifying families of the victims. Canada's Foreign Affairs Minister Nida Anand is calling for greater strategic autonomy

5:13in an address to the United Nations General Assembly, speaking in New York, and on urged middle powers to work together to address what she called a rupture in the global order. She highlighted Canada's strategy to reduce overreliance on any single trade partner and build international coalitions, the CBC's Mark Carcassel, as details from Washington. In an almost 20-minute speech, Minister Anand underlines some of Canada's implemented and planned changes for what she calls a rupture in the global order. Much of this, we Canadians have already heard, but this was a way of making those policies and plans known to the world, leading with plans to stop Canada's overreliance on one partner, the US. Canada's goal is to achieve greater strategic autonomy, greater autonomy to make our own choices. On in details efforts to trade beyond North America, diversify ties in technology, critical minerals, defense, and clean energy, and advancing the Prime Minister's calls from Davos for so-called middle powers to work together. These coalitions are the most flexible,

6:18effective, and immediate way to address emerging global challenges. She cites the coalition of the willing made up of 30 countries dedicated to bolstering Ukraine's defense against Russia as an example of that. While speaking of Canada's break with the US on the trade front, she also supports many US-involved initiatives, the security agreement with Green London Denmark, efforts to combat gangs in Haiti, and sanctions against Iran. Iran is the principal threat to peace and security in its region. It must never acquire a nuclear weapon. The Foreign Affairs Minister also underlines Canada's support for a two-state solution to end the conflict between Israel and Hamas, and urges UN members to support Canada's candidacy for membership on the UN's Human Rights Council. Mark Carcassel, CBC News, Washington. Residents in Tumblr Ridge BC are fighting to restore around the clock emergency health care. Residents say there's still no clear timeline for when 24-7 service will return. The CBC's Tom Summer reports,

7:19What do we want? Help! Tumblr Ridge residents came together on Saturday morning to make their voices heard. They say Northern Health's promise to restore after-hours emergency care isn't being kept. Chris Norbury is one of the protest organizers. He says families are being left with an impossible choice, waiting hours for an ambulance or making an hour-long drive on icy winter roads to Dawson Creek or Chetwent. And decision-makers at Northern Health and the Ministry of Health need to listen. Mayor Gerald Cracalkas is a nearly-died due to the lack of after-hours care. He says the current service is inadequate for what the town needs, and said others in the community have suffered similar experiences. They like it. Northern Health said it's unable to provide comment due to the ongoing provincial election. However, planning for 24-7 virtual care is underway for next year by the health authority. Two new full-time doctors and nurse practitioners are also being sought to address staffing shortages. Tom Summer, CBC News, Tumblr Ridge. 8:22The elite men's road race spans nearly 270 kilometers with riders tackling 12 grueling ascents of Mount Royal. CBC's Gavin Days following the action and joins us in studio Gavin break down the race for us. Well men cycling these days belongs to Tadeh Pogacia of Slovenia. He wins every race he's in. If he wants to win he wins. Multide races, one day races doesn't matter. He's not here. He crashed a couple weeks ago in Spain and he is out with an injury. What that has done as it made it wide open. You can look at, start with a guy named Remco Avenopoul of Belgium. He won the time trial a week ago. Could be the first ever man or woman to win the senior time trial and road race never been done. But there's a real changing of the guard as well. There's a number of young riders. Namely, Ezek del Toro of Mexico 22 years old. Paul Seixas, the latest French hope 20 years old. They were one two two weeks ago at a world tour race in Montreal on this same course. And they are very much the future and the present of cycling.

9:25And odds are that they will be in the mix as well. But there are so many big riders there from different countries all over the world that without Pogacia it's so much more unpredictable than if he were there. Unpredictable, but as you suggest, star studded nonetheless. So what are Canada's chances in the field? Massively star studded Canada's chances. Delta huge blow. Derek G West of Ottawa, who could have been up there for a good top 10 crashed out, hurt his ribs. And their best shot is maybe Michael Woods. He technically retired last year. He came back for this so he could essentially just have a send off to help G West up those climbs on Mount Royal. But he did that Montreal race a couple weeks ago. A very credible 18th place. He was up with the leaders a lot of it. Odds are he won't factor in at the final. But you know, it would be a very good story for him to cap off what has been a very good career for Canada.
