Star Wars Boss Wins £235k After Racial Firing

0:00On April 30th, a health and safety boss on Disney's Star Wars series, the Acolyte just won 235,000 pounds in compensation after getting fired for calling her replacement, The White Man. Saudi Khan had been promoted quickly to head the department, the first woman of color in that role on a major Star Wars show, but the team was, struggling with performance issues by mid-2022. She felt pushed out when producers brought in Jay Bond, a more experienced guy, to fix things, and during meetings, she vented about her feeling unfair, as a woman of color. Bond complained about her offensive racial language, leading to her dismissal for gross misconduct in late November, even after she appealed. The employment tribunal ruled the hiring wasn't racially motivated and tossed her discrimination claims, but set firing her right after her complaint. Counted as victimization and unfair dismissal, so she gets the payout while she's been out of work since.
