A seafood restaurant has been in this original location for over 100 years. “This legendary seafood restaurant is an internationally recognized dining destination that is as much a part of Santa Monica’s history as it’s neighbor, the Santa Monica Pier. Situated at the intersection of Route 66 and the Pacific Ocean, The Lobster has been a cherished landmark for locals and visitors for decades, offering not only mesmerizing views of the Santa Monica Pier and Malibu coastline but also an award-winning seafood menu under the masterful guidance of acclaimed Chef Govind Armstrong. Good morning Southern California and welcome. If your food obsessed you've come to the right place. Join us for the next two hours and you won't go away hungry. One of the first American culinary icons Julia Child said people who love to eat are always the best people. We agree. Live from the AMA30K LAA Studios at Angel Stadium in Anaheim. The SoCal Restaurant Show is on the air. And welcome back. It is the SoCal Restaurant Show and happily we're here with you every Saturday morning from 10 AM until 12 noon. Right here on AMA30K LAA, the home of Angel Spaceball. And you can also catch us on the AMA30 Angels app and streaming through the website at AMA30.net. And one little halo note. This is the last homestand of the season for the Angels. Hard to believe. I remember when we were previewing spring training and it didn't seem too long ago.
But tonight is the midgame set of three with the Minnesota twins. Halo is hoping to even things up tonight. And tomorrow is a matinee game. So there we go. I'm Andy Harris, the executive producer and co-host of the show. Happy to be here. Happy to have Tony and technical excellence with us this morning behind the glass. My colleague, chef Andrew Grool of the Calico Fish House in the Sunset Beach area of Huntington Beach on Pacific Coast Highway right across from the beach. We'll be joining us a little later in the show with his usual Ask the Chef segment. And the Spiny Lobster season in California is about to start. And we will be talking about that with chef Andrew. What's the difference between a main lobster and a California Spiny Lobster? Both are good eating. But the Spiny has a few different flavor characteristics in the profile.
So chef Andrew being the acclaimed seafood expert that he is. We'll leave all of that to him. But hey, lobster on the plate is always mighty good. Do you appreciate you tuning in? Thanks for sharing part of your Saturday morning with us. We definitely couldn't do it without you. Do keep up with us on social media. What we try to do there is add to and enhance what we do here on Saturday mornings. And just keep the continuity going through the week. So you'll see postings of some of the places that we've been during the week. Food items, restaurants, gourmet specialty food products. Whatever we think might be of interest to our audience. So do take a peek there. Also when we have a cookbook author, we do post a recipe or two from that cookbook. So for the Sirius home cooks out there, you get a chance to try before you
drive as it were. You can do a couple of the recipes at home. See what you think. And if you like them by the cookbook, because of course every cookbook you add to your library these days, that's an investment. And you definitely want to make sure it's worth it. So I understand I definitely do. So websites easy at socalrestaurantshow.com. Facebook is so calrestaurantshow. Send us a tweet or an ex if you like at socalrestaurant. And as we love to say and don't get tired of saying, for the very best and provocative food imagery, Instagram to at socalrestaurantshow. And just as a for instance, we're having the executive chef of the lobster in Santa Monica. Read adjacent to the entrance to the Santa Monica Pier. Govindarm Strong on the show shortly. We did a dinner there last Saturday. So definitely lots of images of the lobster.
And in addition to being a great seafood restaurant, the views that you have there are incredible. Both of the Santa Monica Pier, but looking south and also looking north. And don't let it scare you the entrance to the Santa Monica Pier. That driveway that goes down from ocean to the pier is under renovation and replacement. So there's a little construction fence that runs along the entrance way to the Santa Monica Pier. You go through that and then you're down on the pier, but the pier is open for business. But it looks a little intimidating from the outside until you've seen that. So do keep it in mind. Little note from last week, we're going to be talking about again, the Manhattan Beach Food and Wine Festival, which is next Friday and Saturday evening in Manhattan Beach at the West Drift Manhattan Beach Hotel,
which in previous years has been the host hotel for the event. But this year, it's also the location. Basically, the event is taking over the entire property and their golf course. So definitely a nice move. And I think it's in terms of that transition and change. I think it's a good one. And it gives the restaurants a chance to better showcase all of their food. But when we had producer Shelby Russell on the show last week, he was kind enough to surprise us with a special offer. So for Manhattan Beach Food and Wine, the IP tickets for both Saturday and, excuse me, Friday and Saturday have sold out. They're clean. But for general admission, there's still tickets available. And Shelby was kind enough to extend an offer to our listeners and understand all my coverage of Manhattan Beach Food and Wine is editorial.
They're not a sponsor of the show. I like the event. The culinary careers program is the charity beneficiary of the event. And I feel they were supporting, but I just want that to be understood up front. So Shelby has an offer that when you buy a general admission ticket and in the offer code area, this isn't case sensitive, you type in Andy 26, ANDY 26. You get a special discount. I believe it's $15. So hey, enjoy. And we thank the production team of Manhattan Beach Food and Wine for doing that. Big show today, we got a lot going on. I should also mention, before we preview more of the show, that next Saturday morning from 10am, excuse me, until 12 noon, we'll be broadcasting the show live from the West Drift, Manhattan Beach, for the Manhattan Beach Food and Wine Festival. And we'll have a chance to catch some of the wonderful local celebrity chefs that are part of this
event. But there are also some big name chefs that are coming in from other parts of the country. And we will grab them too. So definitely a chef focus show next Saturday. So we talked about Govind Armstrong and the Lobster. Believe it or not, this year is their 27th anniversary, hard to believe. And in their whole run, Govind is only the third executive chef for that property, really unusual. Then some more previews for Manhattan Beach Food and Wine, pastry chef, Christie Lucacy, who also is the co-owner of the wife and some in Glassel Park. One of the participating restaurants in Manhattan Beach Food and Wine. I think this is actually the third year they've done it. I think they've been there every year. We're going to have a chance to visit with Christie. And let me tell you, her desserts are a wow. Then, wine is part of Manhattan Beach Food and Wine. One of the participating boutique wineries that is there is Werson Wine.
No stranger to the SoCal restaurant show. We'll be speaking with Paul Werson and see what he's going to be pouring at the event. But definitely do check him out. If whiskey is more your thing, we're going to be doing a preview of the OC Whiskey Festival, which is back on October 1st. And we're going to be chatting with two of their principals, Leslie Duin, who is the co-founder of the, excuse me, Daily Doe's Hospitality that produces at the event. And their beverage director, Chris Daley, who is also an owner at Daily Doe's Hospitality. Then, the James Beard Foundation is doing an event here on October 6th. It's Taste America Los Angeles at the Line Hotel. And we're going to be speaking with celebrity chef Mary Summilkin about that, who also is a trustee of the James Beard Foundation. So as usual, a lot going on, sit back, get ready for Gov. Armstrong.
It is the SoCal restaurant show we're proudly presented by our friends at Melissa's World Variety Produce. Short break, coming back.
