About this episode

“We have the largest digital company in the world, but my God, this is our stuff, suck. I'm like staring at myself in a camera right now. I'm like, we're the largest digital company. Can we just get a camera where I just don't look green?”From the transcript
Nick Wize opens Wednesday’s show reacting to the Yankees’ 9-0 blowout of the Red Sox in the AL Wild Card, a result that has him thinking twice about a potential Tampa Bay-New York playoff matchup. Nick and Tim break down MLB’s postseason format, from the best-of-three Wild Card to the best-of-five ALDS and best-of-seven ALCS and World Series, while debating whether the ALDS should also be expanded to seven games and the Wild Card to five. Nick then asks Rays fans whether they’re concerned about facing the Yankees before turning his attention to the Braves’ playoff attendance and questioning why Atlanta fans weren’t receiving the same national criticism Tampa Bay fans faced for an early-afternoon playoff game a few years ago.

Videos we put out, I look green. We have the largest digital company in the world, but my God, this is our stuff, suck. I look sick in our videos. I'm like staring at myself in a camera right now. I'm green, Tim. I told you that yesterday. I know. And I feel like it keeps getting worse. They put out videos. It's not as bad right now. Oh, it's bad in the suit. I look green. All right. I'm like, we're the largest digital company. Can we just get a camera where I just don't look green? That's all I ask. Like, I need all the help I can get. They just want to make sure you are not going to get angry today. Okay. Oh, yeah. I'm all right. I'll stop now. I'm having one of those days, man. You're just your green or not. We don't want to get you angry, all right? I'm trying to look my best. You know, it's not easy in this body to look my best. And I got a camera that makes me look green. Yeah, yeah. All right. Just get to the important stuff. We got a lot to do today. We have ticket prices right.

That's like one of my favorite games. We play Mathisle. Join us for that. Also, Tony Kastrakone will join us to talk about the Buccaneers. I know that isn't as exciting as it once was, but Tony's still great. Unfortunately, the team just isn't playing well right now. But we'll get his thoughts on the game. We'll talk about the Packer game coming up as well. And DJ Crowder running back USF will join us at 130. I thought we could start with some baseball today. I tuned in a little bit, watch the Red Sox and the Yankees. I guess doing my own little scouting as the Tampa Bay Rays will play the winner of that series on Saturday night at the top. We did get the game times. It's gonna be 6.30 on Saturday, eight o'clock on Monday. And then, let me if I get this right, they would have a game next Thursday. We are lined up to have USF, the Buccaneers and the Rays, all in the same day.

Next Thursday, I think is how that's gonna play out. Sports is extravaganza. If I look at the schedule correctly, that would be Thursday, October 8th, yeah. They would play. My goodness. That's a hell of a Thursday night. I know what I'm doing. I'd like to take off Friday because I'd like to be able to sleep in knowing I'm gonna be up late, but that's gonna be like one of the biggest, busiest Friday. I can't take it off. Like I have to be here. All right. You have to be here. I'll take it off then. How about that? Oh, no, you gotta be here. If I gotta be here, you gotta be here. There we go. We gotta do it for the people. That's right. We gotta be able to bring the best show we can possibly bring. And with us, it's hard, but we're gonna try. Every day, we got it. But that is gonna be a great Thursday night. Whoever did the college football skat, like, shame on you guys to do that to USF, put them on the same night at the box, like, silly. But I don't know who's in charge of that, but somebody screwed up. Last night, so I'm watching the race. I'm watching the Yankees and the Red Sox.

And Yankees looked pretty good. What was the final score? Nine-nothing. I ended up shutting it off. There was nine-nothing, but it wasn't a night-run game. No, they got the runs late, but Cam Schletler, oil boy. I don't feel like, why, I don't wanna see him. I really don't. He was fantastic last night, six in a third. And I think it was one hit, no runs. He had an excellent outing. They just, they struggled to touch him. I mean, look, he's a Sai Young winner. He's gonna win the Sai Young. So, and now here's the thing. Would he be available for game one Saturday night? I mean, he technically could be. I wonder if they'll have him start game two if they beat Boston. This is me assuming they're beating Boston. I wonder if he's the game one starter or the game two starter. I wonder if they're gonna save him for the first game at Yankee Stadium. No, they're not gonna save him till game three. Cause then they would only get him in game three in a game seven. No, no, no, no. Oh, that's true. He'll be game one or game two. That's fine. Yeah. Oh, yeah, I'm sorry. They were gonna try to get him in there twice.

So he could pitch two and five or one and four, right? Right? I bet they'll try to get they'll try to get him in there twice. Yeah, definitely. Dude, that's like my biggest thing with the MLB playoffs is I struggle to remember which I just slipped it up. Thank you for correcting me. I'm like, so I'm like thinking this is best of five and then it's seven from here on out, but it's best of three, best of five, best of seven. I don't like the best of three. You played 162 games and then it comes down to two wins. I think this first series should be five, make the ALDS seven and then make of course the ALCS and World Series seven as well. I don't like the best of three series personally. That's just me. I agree with you, but going back to your take a couple of weeks ago, if they make the ALDS, which I agree, I wish it was seven, seven, seven, seven,

DSCS World Series, then we would absolutely be playing into November if not the middle of November. No, I can solve that. Oh, yeah. Yeah, play 130 games. Because I don't need 162 games. I know I sound like someone that doesn't like sports, but baseball's a lot, man, we could do less games, make a playoff, some all for it. There's a reason why they call it the dog days of summer. That's right. I mean, look, it does get us through summer because those months of like May, June, July, like think about the all star break in baseball. Like we're just like dying for sports. And so baseball does get us through the summer. I'm not saying take baseball on the summer. I'm just saying maybe the playoffs can start in September, kick it off with the NFL season. There we go. That's all. See, I should be the commissioner of all of these sports. That's right. You could be the commissioner of professional sports. Josh Pay will be the commissioner of college football. No, I think I should be the commissioner of college football too. They're going to talk college football. They really are going to go to a 2014 playoff

aren't they? Don't don't they are. There is no stopping it. There is no they are ruining the greatest sport in the world. There is nothing like college football regular season. Well guess what? It's over. They are so go into 24. They can see the dollar signs. And that's all that matters. They see the dollar signs and they are going to make it a 2014 playoff. And therefore your Texas Ohio State games don't matter. I mean, I guess the one good thing is when my team loses at the last second against Iowa on a Saturday rather than me being upset, I can just be like, well, whatever. We'll still go to the playoff. See the regular season being a playoff is what made college football fun. But now we've ruined that. Yeah, you think of Florida and Ole Miss on Saturday. Big game, right? Because now the other team, the team that lost Ole Miss, they now have to pretty much go perfect. They have one more lifeline. But when you go to the 12 team playoff, it's still change the season a little bit.

But going to 24, you'll essentially be able to lose three to four times. If you're in the SEC, you'll be able to lose six times. You'll just have to be bowl eligible. If you're an SEC team, six and six SEC team, that's way better than a nine and three big 12 team. That's what the committee will say. Thanks. You're going to have six and six Kentucky in the playoffs. Who asked for this? It's all about the networks and the dollars. So stupid. I don't like it. It just doesn't make... Now, if they were to do a 2014 playoff and you're going to include all of the conferences and look, people might not be a huge fan of this idea because you are going to end up with a bunch of blowouts. If you have the group of six playing all these power four teams in the first and second rounds, but it doesn't dilute the regular season at all because the teams, like in the power four conferences, they're still going to have to win because you're going to have six spots eaten up by the group of six.

You know, you take the conference champions from the group of six and put them in. So then it would essentially be, I guess, an 18 team playoff. Why can't we just keep it at four? I think the perfect number would have been eight. Then they went straight to 12 and then they're like, oh, 16 now 24. Are you SCC guys going to keep crying about your schedule when we go to 24 or are you going to finally shut up? Because then if you finally shut up on it, then maybe I will finally be like, all right, I'm happy with the 2014. If I never have to hear Nick Saban cry about it again, then maybe the 2014 is worth it. I don't know. I don't cry about it. You do. I've listened to your podcast. That's all you talk about. You're like every other SCC person. I thought I was tuning into a podcast about the Gators. All it was was how great the SCC is and how it's always unfit. Well, you've listened to one episode. If you actually listened to all the episodes, you'd know that I could go back after hearing that. I predicted that for a blowout on this.

You pissed me off. I couldn't go back. I'm like angrily texting you about your podcast, which means it was a good show. It's called chomp radio. You should check out his podcast. But I will say this. If you're not a Gator, if you're a Gator fan, you'll love it. If you're an SCC fan, you'll love it. If you are rooting for a team in any other conference, you're going to want to kill him and never listen to him again. All right. So you might lose some of our audience here. If you have them tune into your podcast, you might grow some too, but there's going to be people that probably think less of you. I'm good. I can give him a couple of reasons. Easy. I was not watching the game and yeah, I immediately went, yeah, I'd rather play Boston. The Yankees pitching does worry me a little bit. Are race fans worried at all? Are you just pretty confident in the team? Because I think when you think about the rest that they are getting right now and not being in a game, not going through the routine and then have to face that pitching, it scares

me a little bit. Another thing I noticed in postseason baseball yesterday, how many? Tim, I'll ask you this. I don't know if you were, I mean, you weren't a WDA, but you lived in Tampa when the Rangers series happened at the top at a three o'clock in the afternoon on a Tuesday. Nobody showed up in ESPN blasted us for that. I was the one person that stood up for the community here on why it happened the way it happened last night. Well, I should say yesterday during the day, I got a kick out of that Braves game to a clock start in the afternoon at Lanna Braves. They have a great fan base. Do you think 42,000 is the capacity? How many people do you think showed up for the game at two o'clock in Atlanta? Good baseball town taking on the Phillies. Yeah, I'm going to say what? 20,000 at best? No, they did 30, which is about 75%. They did pretty good. It looked pretty empty though on TV.

Yeah. I just want to know, did the network blast Atlanta and call their fans terrible? Probably. Are you going to get it an excuse that everybody was in school and was that work? Because I was told when you're a great baseball town, which Atlanta is in that circle. And in fact, I heard from a lot of fans from Atlanta when the race fans didn't show up for the Ranger series. I heard a lot from those fans. Are you guys just, are you guys not real? You guys not a real sports town? I mean, you did already lose your hockey team. That didn't last very long. So what's up in Atlanta? Why didn't we sell that out? What's going on? I think, whoa, I don't know. People had to work. Kids were in school. Oh, that's not an excuse. We're a great, we're great. Yeah. Which I thought was stupid. Why are we having playoff games at one in the afternoon? Silly. Stupid. It really was stupid, but you know what? Doesn't matter what time it is because they're supposed to show up at Atlanta. I heard that would never happen there. Shame on you guys, not showing up to support your team.

Um, um, um, um, raise baseball dot com. Get your tickets. Do not make me look stupid on Saturday night. Now it'll be packed on Saturday. Here's what I'm hoping though. I just, I just wanted to be a race crowd and I think it will be because I believe they're already sold out or if not, they're damn close. And as long as you're keeping the tick, I would imagine it's mostly race people that bought those tickets because Red Sox and Yankee fans aren't committing to it yet because they don't know who's going to be here. So it should be Saturday night, no matter who they play a home field advantage. Monday night could be a different story, but it should be a good home crowd at the top on Saturday. But I couldn't come on the air and not make fun of Atlanta. Like where were you? What a bad sports town. We have not lost our hockey team. Then in fact, they're doing pretty good. They're going to open up their season on Saturday night. Yeah. And just to talk about that for a quick second, I was here. I was listening. And even I was kind of like, why is Tampa getting all this pushback?

Even though I wasn't adding care, I had no stake in the game. I thought it was dumb that they scheduled the game so early in the afternoon. And then ESPN was like deciding to blast them for it. I'm like, what do you expect? Yeah, I thought it was weird to blast the fans on a broadcast like that I had never seen before. So that I thought was weird. And I didn't watch the Braves game. If anyone watched the Braves game yesterday, you probably didn't because you were at work like everybody in Atlanta. But if you did watch it, did the broadcast allude to it at all that they didn't sell out. They were below their average in a playoff game, unacceptable. How dare you? But apparently you only get crucified if it's in Tampa because that's just what we do. All right, we'll talk about that. A phone lines open 888-3880-957. We'll get to so many things on the show today. Box bulls and more race stuff coming up as well.
