Your longest journey can begin with one short step to Barclays Bank, 208 South La Salle Street, Chicago, and the world. Inspector Gregson Scott and Yard have been querying over his colleague, Mr. Douglas Strains. While he, Gregson, had acted so decisively in a resting young Arthur Schoffontier for the murder of Ynauff-Jabba, the Strains with a mere duty of questioning, Stagson, the dead man, the Secretary, had returned to 21B, back asleep with failure, wricken all over his face. But then, Holmes and I had been in the astonishedest

Gregson, the hair that he had found Stagson murdered too. The stride had brought a box containing two pills, which he had found near the body. Explaning in the last his case was completed, Holmes wasted no time in feeding one of the poor aging dogs, which are landed at the Hedusters, that morning they had destroyed. To his dismember, the effect was new. With his whole case hanging upon the consequences, Holmes quickly did the grind the only remaining until he went to some milk and watched anxiously as the dog drank. Poor chef, he works. I should have had more faith. Of the two pills in that box, one was of the most deadly

poison of the other was entirely harmless. I also had known that before, as I saw the box at all. Holmes, if I may say so, any delay in arresting the murderer, might give him time to perfectly some fetcher prostrate. There have been no more murders. You must be a finder of the name of the murderer. I do. The mere knowing of his name is a small thing higher, but compared to the power of laying our hands upon him, this I expect the dish ought to do. But how? I have good hopes of managing it through my own arrangement, but it's something which needs delicate handling. We have a shrewd and desperate man to deal with. A present I'm ready to promise that the instant I can communicate with you without endangering my own arrangement, I shall do so. Well, I don't know about that. Would you? Sir, please, sir. We'll first begin. I've got the cap downstairs, sir. Good boy. Let's say it, Gregson. Why don't you introduce this pattern of handcuffs and scottons yard?

Do you have beautifully the springwear? The cadmen may have brought help me with my boxes, just ask him to step up again. Yes, sir. You never said anything about sitting out on a journey. No, right, Gregbotton. However, I must just get this small portman to ready. What is this, Mr. Hoke? Yes, sir, I really think you would have thought that you would have loved me a lot of times. That's a pretty difficult one. You'll let me help you. No, that's not a good idea. There you are, my good man. Yes, sir, man. Just give me a hand with this buckle if you please. Oh, Roger. What? What the hell is that? No, who is that? Oh, no, no, no. Oh, he's still. Gentlemen, let the infant use you to Mr. Jefferson's hope the murderer of Enoch Grabba and chose his stanker. Oh, good. We have his cab to prefer to take him to scottons yard. Jefferson Hope, I arrest you in the queen's name

for the murder of Enoch Grabba and Joseph Stankerson. And I'm as caution you that anything you say will be taken down and maybe put in evidence. I've got a good deal to say. Your doctor, aren't you? Yes, him. And put your hand here on my chest. Well, as you wish. Well, wait, he's mad, he's not here to get news. Yes, that's what they call it. I went to a doctor last week about it and he told me of his bound to burst before many days of past. It's been getting worse for years. Dr. Watson, you hear something, you consider there is immediate danger. Most certainly there is. In that case, it's clearly our duty and the interest of justice to take his statement. Will he write it down, please, Mr. Australia? I have cautioned you and you are at liberty to give your account, which this officer will take down. I understand. I'll sit down with your leave. I owe me. Thank you.

This aneurysm of mine makes me easily tired and that puzzle we had just now hasn't amended matters. I am on the brink of the grave and I'm not likely to lie to you gentlemen. Right? I'm ready. Those who then, it doesn't much matter to you why I hated those two men. It's enough that they were guilty of the death of two human beings, a father and a daughter. And that they have... This is Steve Tavino from Cavino and Rich. All right, quick round of trivia before we get back into the show. But we're doing it differently this time. That girl was the one who married me in America 20 years ago. She was forced into marrying that same driver and broke her heart over it. I took the marriage ring from her dead finger and I bowed that his dying eyes should rest upon that very ring and that his last thought should be of the crime for which he was punished.

I carried it about with me and followed him and his accomplice over two confidence until I caught him. I died tomorrow, this is likely enough. I died knowing that my work in this world is done. When I got to London, my pocket was about empty. I found that I must turn my hand to something for my living, driving and riding or as natural to me as walking. So I applied to the cab on his office, assumed God had won. It was some time before I found out where my two central people were. They were at a boarding house at Kemberwell over on the other side of the living. I'd grown my beard and there was no chance of their recognition. Go where they were at about London. I was always at their heels. At last, one evening, I was driving up and down Torquay, Terrace, when I saw a cab draw out of their door. Pleasantly, some luggage was brought out. And after a time, Trevor and Stangerson followed it and drove off.

I whipped up my horse and kept with insight of it, feeling very ill at ease, but I feared that they were going to ship their toys. At Houston station, they got out and I left the boy to hold my horse and followed them out with platform. They got nearer and up to here when they were safe. But I tell you, there isn't another Liverpool train for hours. Oh, who cares? I care! But soon we're on the train to Liverpool and getting out of here, my happy will be. Well, Stangerson would just have to wait, won't we? Now come to think of it, I have a little business of my own to do. If you just hang around here someplace up, I'll go off and I'll join you later. If you go, I'm going with you. You see this little matters kind of delicate, where you'd be in the way. Is that so? Well, either I go with you or we both stay here. You can take it or leave it, Trevor.

Oh, dear Stangerson, it's about time you remember you're nothing more than a paid servant around here. Oh, the hell do you think you are trying to dictate to me? I didn't mean it that way. Oh, sounds a demeanour. Cut it out once and for all. Oh, okay then. But look, supposing you're not back in time for the train, it's the last one tonight. Oh, I'll be back here before 11. Tell you what, if I'm not, we'll meet up again at Halliday's hotel. Let's see. I guess it'll happen. The moment for which I had waited so long have come at last. My plans were already gone. It chants that some days before, a gentleman who had been looking over some empty houses off the bricks and road had dropped a key over my foot in my carriage. How to get rid of that house was the problem. There was a handsome in front of mine and he hailed it. I followed it for miles.

Until to my astonishment, we found ourselves back in the terrace where he had boarded. I went on and pulled up my cab a hundred yards of soap in the house. He entered it and his handsome drove away. Well, I waited for a quarter of an hour or more. When suddenly there came a noise like people struggling inside the house. Next moment the door was swung open and two men appeared. One of them was Trevor, the other was a young chap who might never see me fall. Don't see how I'm not teaching her in such another scouts. Get your hands off me. Do you hear nothing? Under this throne in quite ten seconds, I'll make this special across here for you to be able to walk. Now get on with young. Hey, you say I'm going. Hey, you, Debbie. Just that man. Try to be the power days' hotel.

And then I had him fairly inside my cabin. My heart jumped so much with joy that I feared, less that this last moment, my aneurysm might go wrong. I was once Yamato and sweeped out of a laboratory in the States. One day Professor was lecturing on some alkaloid, which was so powerful, that the least grain meant instant death. When they were all gone, I helped myself to a little of it. I was a fairly good dispenser, so I worked this alkaloid in a small soluble pill. And each pill I put in a box with a similar pill made without the poison. I determined that when I had my chance, my gentleman could each have a draw out of one of those boxes while I ate the pill that remained. That day, I had always my pillboxes about with me. And the time had now come when I was the user.

But nearer one, twelve, the wild, bleak night's blowing hot. My hands were trembling, my cup was sparring with excitement. It was not a soul to be seen. When I looked in at the cabin, though I found, wherever, hot holes in my kitchen. Come on there, come on wake up, wake up on sight. Hmm, what's the matter? Tone to get out. Hmm, all right, coming. Yeah, you better follow me, sir. Is this the hotel? Caledies? Oh, come along there, sir, it's all up to you. Hmm,, and when the month ended,

see what kind of hotel is it? Now we'll soon have a light joyously to shout this candle. Now, Ena, d'Reber, who am I? Who? What do you mean? I don't know. No. Yes, you, John. I have hunted you from Salt Lake City to save Pyrrhusberg, and you've always escaped me. But now you're wondering to come to an end. No. No, keep away from me. What do you think of poor Lucy, better you're now? Punishment has been flowing coming, but it has all been taken to us last. Would you murder me? Oh, talk some murdering on that stuff. This is Steve Covino from Covino and Rich. All right, quick round of trivia before we get back into the show. But we're doing it differently this time. Every guy listening right now, you're a contestant. No buzzers, no calling in. Just answer honestly to yourself.

Wasn't I curious for thee? But it was you who broke her in this and heart. Let the fine God shine to this, who will see this box again. What is it? What are they? Just a couple of pills, two, and each. There is death in one and life in the other. I will take what you will eat. Let us see if there is justice upon you or if we are ruled by chance. Who is this? In America. Don't do it. Yes, you will be mine by the gift. No, keep going, my dear. Do as I say. Do. And keep. This way, you have a bit of interest. You don't take it, it will be my life for no chance for you or to fall. Anyway. I'll eat. Now, I'll take the other.

Yes. It's a good taste. You God. You was. You. You. You. You. You. You. You. You. You. You. You. You. You. You. You listening to the adventures of Sherlock Holmes being brought to you from the BBC over WFMT in Chicago, presented by Barclays Bank International. I turned them over with my foot and placed my hand in the funny heart. There was no movement. He was dead now. The pulses in my temples were beating the exlegion of his. And I believed I would have had a fifth sunsaw. It's a blood that knocked the gush from my nose and relieved me. I remember the German being found in New York with WASH written up above him. And it was argued that the secret society is must have done it. I guess that what puzzled the New Yorkers would puzzle London it. So I dipped my finger in my own blood and printed it on the wall. And then I walked down to my camp. I had driven some distance when I put my hand into the pocket in which I usually kept loose and spring. The found it was not there. It was the only momentum I had on it. Thinking that I might have dropped it when I stooped over to the spotty, I could go back and leaving my cab on a side street. I went boldly up to the house.

Warped right into the arms of a police officer who was coming out. I managed to fool him by pretending to be hopelessly drunk. But I had to go away. So much for a dribblet. How about Stingett? Oh, I knew that he was staying in Palabé's hotel. Early next morning I took advantage of some ladders which were lying in the lane behind the hotel and so made my way into his room in the grey of the dawn. I woke him up and told him he was to answer for the life he had taken so long before. I gave him the same choice of poisoned pills. He sprang from his bed and flew out my throat and self-defense eyes. I stabbed him to the heart. I see. You got all that into the straight? Every word? Well, is there anything you'd like to ask Mr. Holmes? There's only one point on which I should like a little more information. Who was your accomplice who came for the ring which I had to tell you?

Oh, I can tell you my own secret but I don't get other people in the trouble. He had no hand in the depths of the pose to men and to nose nothing happened. I think we can accept the truth of that, Gregson. Very well, Mr. Holmes. But now, gentlemen, the forms of the law must be complied with. On Thursday, the prisoner will be booked before the major streets and your attendance will be required. Now, come to the store, Inspector. Until then, I will be responsible for him. Come along if you please, Mr. Lestrade. We may as well use his own cab. For the longer of the day, we know that he didn't drive it. You have to apply. What? Oh, never mind. At least I can drive a cab. Come along, hope. Let's be moving. Yeah, what? Gregson and Lestrade will be furious about his death. Well, it was dinner for the poor devil to die and he's still and almost scaffolded.

His life was hanging by thread. I'd say they won't see it that way. Where will that gram-deversus be now? How they must have been looking forward to the trial. I must admit, it would have been pretty interesting. Never mind. I wouldn't have missed the investigation for anything. There's been no better case within my recollection. Simple as it was. Improved? Well, let me see if I can make it clear. Now, this was a case in which you were given the result and had to find everything else to yourself. I approached the house with my mind and told it free from all impressions. I began by examining the roadway and there, as I've already explained to you, I saw clearly the months of a cab which, as I ascertained by enquiry, must have been there during the night. How could you know it was a cab but not a private cab? By the narrow gauge of the wheel. The ordinary London growl is considerably less quiet than the gentleman's broom. I then walked slowly down the garden path

which hadn't been composed of a clay soil, but purely in this suitable for taking impressions. There's no branch of detective science which is so important and so much neglected as the art of tracing footsteps. I saw the head-afe footmarks of the constables but I saw also the plaque of the two men who had first passed through the garden. It was easy to tell that they had been before the others because in places their marks had been entirely obliterated by the others coming up on the top of them. In this way my second link was formed, which told me that the maternal visitors were two in number. One remarkable phrase, fight, as I calculated from the length of the stride, and the other, testnably dressed, to judge from the small one, the elegant impression left by the boots. What next? On imping the house, this last inference was confirmed. My well-booted man, late days before me, the poor one then had done the murder, if murder was. Having sniffed the dead man's lips,

I did take to the slightest far smell, and I came to the conclusion that he'd been poisoned. I argued from the hate-fiddler here expressed upon his face that the poison had been forced upon him. And now came the great question as to the reason why. Robbery had not been the object of the murder for nothing was taken. Political assassins on the other hand, are only too glad to do their work and to fly. This murder had been done most deliberately, and the perpetrator had left his tracks all over the room. And the inscription on the wall was too obvious, they were blind. No, it must have been a private wrong, and not a political one, which called for such a mothoryful revenge. I was in time from the first to suspect that a woman was in some way connected to the woman. Ah, finding the waiting room that settled the question. However, I proceeded to make a careful examination of the room, which confirmed me and my opinion as to the murderous fight, and, certainly, with the additional details as to the Tritian Opel-Aceagar. I had already come to the conclusion,

since there were no signs of a struggle, that the blood which covered the floor had burst from the murderous nose in his excitement. I could see that the track of blood coincided with the track of his feet. Now, as a medical man Watson, you will agree that it is seldom that any man breaks out in such a way through emotion, unless he is very full-blooded. No, it's quite true. So, I hasn't been to the opinion that the criminal was a robust and ruddy face man. Indeed, he was. Now, you will remember that I ascertain that when Gregson telegraphed to America, he had not inquired as to any particular point, which might appear to be critical. Yes. Well, having left the house, I telegraphed to the head of the police at Cleveland, limiting my inquiry of the circumstances, disconnected from the marriage of Enoch J. Drebber. The answer was conclusive. It told me that Drebber had already applied for the protection of the law against an old rival in love named Jefferson Hope, and that this same hope was represson in Europe.

And you know that I held the two to the mystery in my hand, and all the remains were to secure the murderous. Oh, the chromatinous. It wasn't so difficult. I had already determined, in my own mind, that the man who had walked into the house with Drebber was none other than the man who had driven the cab. The monks in the road, showed that the horse had wandered on in a way which would have been impossible, had there been anybody charging it. Where then could the driver be, unless he were inside the house? And my dear Watson, supposing one man wished to dog another through London, what better means could he adopt, than to turn cab driver? So you came to the conclusion that Jefferson Hope was to be found among the job isn't Metropolis? Oh, brilliant. Quite brilliant. Thank you, Watson. But what made you assume that having achieved his object, Jefferson Hope would go on being a cab driver? Why, he would have been foolish not to. Any sudden change on his path might have drawn attention to himself.

I therefore organised my speech out of detective call, and sent the systemically to every cap proprietor in London until they said it to him after the man I wanted. Certainly, certainly succeeded. But Holmes, how about the murder of the other man? Stangerson. Ah. That incident was entirely unexpected. Through it, I came into possession of the pill, the existence of which I had already semi. You see, the whole thing is a chain of logical sequences without a breakoff flaw. It's wonderful. From Markmore. You should be publicly recognised for this, Holmes. You should publish an account of the case. Oh, yes. Well, if you weren't I'll do it for you. I have all the facts in my journal. The public will know them. You may do what you like, Dr.. Yes, Mrs. Hudson. The echo was just come with the hose. Oh, it just fell down there. Mrs. Hudson, I'll look at it later. No, no, I'll have it easy. Oh, very good, sir.

Thank you. You'll be in to lunch, gentlemen. I fancy we shall. Thank you, sir. Thank you, Mr. Hudson. I say, listen to this, Holmes. The public have lost a sensational treat through the sudden death of the man, who was suspected of the murders Mr. Inoff-Drabber and Mr. Joseph Stangerson. The details of the case will probably never now be known that we are informed upon good authority that the crimes were the result of an old standing and romantic feud. If the case has no other effect, it at least brings out in the most striking manner the efficiency of our detective police force. Oh, it is an openness secret that the credit for this smart capture belongs entirely to the well-known Scotland Yard official's method, Gregson, the Air Force. Yes. It is expected that the testimonial or some sort will be presented to these two officers as a fitting recognition of their services. Ha-ha! Well, Holmes, what about that?

Didn't I tell you so when we started, Watson? That's the result of all our study in Scotland. To get them a testimony of them. Ha-ha-ha! Ha-ha-ha!
