As Yankees go for their third and a row in this very important four game series, Yankees annihilating the Red Talks in the first two games, getting the ball all over, few against the fence, one up on the screen, doing a great job. And of course this is a big game, Yankees said originally they'd be happy with a split up here but they've already won the first two games, so they said no sense stopping now, let's make a sweep and I go for that.

3:27Well we've got a little bit of time before we have to give you the lineups and Fran and I'd like to talk about the Yankees and all of a sudden Fran Haley, the race in the American League East which was the longest shot to be a race is suddenly the closest race in the four divisions. Yankees just two games behind. Yes it is, so of course Yankees playing some great baseball, you mentioned in the four they'd like to sweep here now, the women said this morning that he would take a split up the next two games. That's not bad either. In the Yankees, the atmosphere in the club was super atmosphere, they really feel like it's the Red Talks, they got things going, they could off some quick start, Nikki Rivers and Mully Randolph are getting on base and this is the secret to the Yankees win. Alright now Fran you were down in the clubhouse and how is Mickey Rivers, you know you had to leave the game with a slight hamstring fall last night. Well he said he feels good today and he said he'll be running if he gets on base so obviously the hamstring fall is alright.

4:27Well that's good news because he and Randolph really have been doing his job. They score in the early earnings, the second inning has been the big inning in the first two games here, Yankees scored three the first night in the second inning and six last night. And of course you don't expect that against a pitcher like Eccrously and yet we didn't expect it against Tarris. Right man, it's not unusual to see a ball from a mental series like the Yankees, you have really sky high to have to win some ball games but the unusual thing is the end result they've got not a rush to red slice in both ball games which is very unusual here in Finway Park. They've got the best home record of any team in baseball here at Finway Park and the Yankees have taken two in a row. You know what's exciting too Fran, the reaction of the Yankees fans back home. Listening watching these games and reading what little they can with the newspaper strike on from what I understand the tickets have been gobbled up in a hurry or I'm sure they have because all box reserved and general admission seats completely sold out.

5:33The next weekend's three red-sized games at the stadium. There are still some unreserved breachy tickets remaining and they'll be on sale at the stadium box office only until five today. And if tickets remain from 10 to five tomorrow there'll be a limit of four tickets per game per person. Again, only breachy seats remain for next weekend's games against the red zone. Scor丁 move very smoothly into their promotion. Well, I tell you the way the Yankees are playing is not much promotion needed. But I've never seen a team put it all together after struggling through the first three quarters of the season the way the Yankees are doing it now. This is true of course the red-sized chess injuries but the Yankees were hit in a very important department. That was the pitching department, the Mezzusner, the first key injury and he was throwing exceptionally well in spring training. Then they had Patterson, Patterson, young pitching why I think it's going to be a fine pitch. You had surgery this year. Gollett. You know that is really a crime. There's a man who has a perfect build and attitude and all the tools to be one of the great

6:38left handers of all time but he's been injury prone ever since he's been with Cincinnati. Right. And of course Gollett very depressed about the injury this year and sure to Yankees very depressed about the injury. Catfish Hunter had an injury early in the year last year in shoulder trouble. This year turned it around Dr. Morris Collins for team position to manipulate it in shoulder and catfish in it feels very warm out. Of course that going for now do you speak to Cat while you were down there? Well I spoke to Jim Mann and he said it will take a little bit of time but they're optimistic. All right. Let's give him the starting line up now so that they can be ready for the start of this game. For the New York Yankees leading off playing center field Mickey Roberts. Will he round out? He had second base and bat second doing the catching and batting third Ferman Munster. Reggie Jackson who's been a big plus for the Yankees getting out of that sick bed in Lennox Hill and coming up here big three run homer and last night's game. Reggie will be the designated hitter and bat cleanup.

7:40At first base batting fifth Chris Shamblitz. Rig Nettles will be a third base batting sixth. The right field of batting seventh sweet loop vanilla and he has done a job against the red socks up here. For our white been outstanding also. He'd be playing left field batting eighth and the shortstop batting ninth Bucky Deck and of course pitching for the Yankees the man who they could let's afford to lose and anybody else run get ready. 20 wins and two defeats. Will the red socks Rick Burlson leads off a shortstop batting second and center field Fred Lynn. Jim Rice will be the right fielder and bat third hitting in the cleanup spot in left field. The next one is Tom Skie. Carlson Frisk will be doing the catching and batting fifth. The designated hitter today with Gidry pitching will be Bob Bailey batting in the sixth spot. George Scott batting seventh and playing first base. At third base batting eighth butch Thompson and the second baseman in today's game right hand hitting Frank Duffy batting ninth.

8:40And on the mound. Now this is a strange turn of events. Ecclesley had never defeated the Yankees prior to coming to the red socks and yet with the red socks he is three and all against the Yankees this year. Very good pitcher. So he has a good pass ball. Although he's not a choice as hard as he did with Cleveland he has a good breaking ball. Of course he utilizes the breaking ball more against left handed hitters and of course Yankees are molded with left handed hitters. When Ecclesley of course is with the Cleveland Indians he did not have the defense. He has right here in Boston. He did not have the power. So this is the change of Ecclesley. And of course Ecclesley right here in front of him. Nine and oh. You know that's almost unbelievable. I ain't in all in this cup ballpark. Quickly we'll mention the Uplies down there. They've come out with Bob Lemmon, the Yankees skipper and Don Zimmer. The red socks manager. Rich Garcia will be calling balls and strikes. Jim Evans will be at first. Sherwood Merrill at second and Monty spring's dead over at third.

9:44We got to mention the wind factor again Fran Haley is blowing the same way it did in the first game here on Thursday night. And so I think this will help Yankees. Yankees have the power. They can hit the ball out of the park. But most of the hitters will put the ball in play. Of course the red socks and the Ryan the big bad of Jim Rice they have some power from the right side of play conducive for this ballpark. You need that right handed power. And left handers are hurt by this ballpark. The Yankees will put the ball in play. They put the ball in play the first night in. Mostly singles from demolished the red socks at first game. And last night of course they went off the wall a few times. But the Yankees again put the ball in play. They really do not have to hit with power here in Boston. The red socks need that power and the wind blowing directly in. You know that's a good point. They need the power and that's yet they are used to this park. They know how easy it is to hit out. And I have heard even Zimmer and Torres complain that everybody going up in this pocket trying to hit homeers. Well that was interesting because the comment from Torres came out in Seattle.

10:45They were beaten by Seattle to read the absorb the water. He criticized the red socks for going for the home run. And Zimmer retaliated by saying that he did not see Torres as country but he sure did not state that he was a player manager. Torres as well as both had many times that he's been through in the past that he is a great September and October picture. He really is. He really is. So this year right surprise him because he got to a short start in the way he pitches his second hand up. He's thinking he would put the 30 wins and of course he's had his problems. Very disappointed in the impression once every fifth day. He was about to go once every four days and a valid complaint because he was thinkable pitches. Thinkable pitches have to keep them all down. If the goals once every four days could be tied. Right now we rise for our national anthem.

Yet the Red Sacks say he is not throwing as hard as he didn't clean.

17:33Well, I said it. Some pitches say a long time to learn. Ball plays two. One, one pitch, basketball. Luke's left field. Nobody's going to get it. That'll go into the seats. No, it hits on the playing field. But the way that win was going. I've been trying to get it to one half. I've filed territory and bounced into the seats. Wow, the left fielder and center fielder can't afford to play very shallow today. Unless you hit a line drive, you're going to be very few balls. If any, that reaches that green master. It's a ball and two strikes on Mickey Revin. You need off this very important ball game. On deck, Willie Randolph. Echoesly winds and the slow curve, Luke and the center field going back to the second baseman Duffy and makes the catch one away. And he had Mickey reaching for that lost speed curve again. And if he did, so first he had that good pass ball. The hitter has to deal himself with a pass ball.

18:33Spider was just in the breakable. Mickey had a problem. Adjusting to the breakable. If I was a pitcher, Mickey would see all slow stuff. All speed. No passable. All right. Willie Randolph. Swinging a hot bat, hitting 274. 17 doubles, five triples, three home. And the first one is 37 runs, badaday. Willie now has a five game hitting street. And Echoesly pitch a bunch down there. Up in bare hands, it's got a first. He's out. A tremendous play by Austin, who has been bothered with a bad arm. And has made two throwing errors in this series. That tremendous play. He picked it up bare handed. Still looks to me like from hot to hell, some Russian throwing. You make the control of those things. At the time, that's when he has the problem. That's when he throws the ball away. All right. Very good point, because even Rico Petrocelli made mention of that fact. Rico said he throws leaning towards first instead of setting that back foot and throw.

19:34But I'm sure it's a problem with the elbow, who tightens up his muscles when throwing the ball. All right. Firm and one sentence. It will be the badad. Firm and batting Q91. He has 25 doubles. He's drippled six homies and 64 runs, batted in. And the pitch is in there, striking for kind of a delayed ball and Martin's question, but it's not that it's as okay. That's because he's one strike pitch. Wing and a miss. Well, I'm not sure if he was throwing some of those before the game. This guy gives him the choice and most problems. But what he's taking is in the mids and mids. And it's the mystery to me because his Firm and lays back. And tries to go to right field the way we know he can. I don't think anybody's given trouble. But again, out of the corner of your eye, you see that green monster and back a short stop. Right. And without trying, are you trying to hit it? The two strike pitch foul and the wing will parry that out of place. Got over, but it's way back. And we'll pause five seconds for a station identification.

20:35I'm a New York Yankee radio network. It's 73 degrees and clear at 228. This is WI and us, New York. Well, Carlton's fist went all the way down. Fist, the Red Sox dugout. I said your prior to the game, Fist received the 10th player award that they have given out in the last four years as the outstanding player on the Red Sox this year. And kind of a lot of murmurs in the Stan'sland fist. He's done a great job, but then you take a look at Jim Rice. And heckersley, good, great years. So Fist, I guess, he's showing the fans why he should have gotten that car. Really hustle on that foul baller when well back in the seats. Again, the pitch to much and hit him. Much and goes to first base. And Firm and Blair is out as heckersley. And Warts to first. Two or three seconds, we try to get the pass ball in and Firm. Firm and Blair has his problems with the seconds and the problem with each of the seconds

21:37we will make that good future he has to. Fist, Firm and Fist, he runs in and Jim thermals through Jim and him giving the ball a hit on his hand and towards a break and ball away and most of the time in a tough place to hit the ball. Hi, Fran. Reggie Jackson will be the batter. Reggie batting 281 has 11 doubles, five circles, 21 homers and 77 runs battered in. And Reggie now has 334 career homers. And he's 33rd on the all time home run list. Next one is got a pass, your ad hoc. That's 336. Pitch to Reggie, right one on the outside corner. This chamois on deck. There's no score where on the top of the first inning has Firm White Park. Just way of good Reggie was looking up here. You can feel like he's got somebody behind him. He's got his eyes fans, going with the ball and more fans like to get on Jackson.

22:41They can strong. Me and me at the plate today. Line but fall, oh man, if you'd have waited a fraction of a second longer. Two Jackson told me before the bargain he has a problem. We didn't run a break and ball because that is where we brought them with the breaking ball. Oh, did he cream that one? And then the right field stands football. There are two strikes on Reggie, two out, months in at first. And the top of the first no score. Out of the Red Sox pitches, the most of them very slow and deliberate out of the mind. Not holding the bag against months in. Pitch. Three ball, they got the first ball by him. Reggie must have been looking for the slowest. Nothing at close, one man left. At the end of one half inning the Yankees, nothing the Red Sox coming to back. Say, what's another main for action, Bill?

And so Burlesin steps in, a lead off against Gidry. We told Iran is 20 and 2 in the year. This is his 30th start of the year and is second against the Red Sun. Burlesin steps in, batting 248, 4 home is 45 runs batted in, and Gidry's first picture breaking pitch is high ball 1. Burlesin has 27 doubles, four triples.

27:47The 1-0 delivery, swing and a miss, strike 1-1-1. Gidry with a 1.84 earned run average. Finally, through the box, Gidry leads for it. 28:49So, what a month, and Gidry throws his arms up the answer that I couldn't hear you, with the crowd roaring. They could have had a double play on that ball. Burlesin wasn't even halfway. That's right, Bill. I'm sure the reason was because of the crowd yelling, Ferman once, he fed something after Gidry's hit the ball at first day, and Gidry's shift was armed. I'm sure it was a crowd. It did very difficult for the catcher to yell loud enough for the pitcher to know. Pitcher should take a bite himself, and a play like that. Especially Gidry, he's feeling very quick, quick with a great arm. All right, so the red sauce, get a break. Here in the very first inning, and the batter is Jim Rice. Rice leading in just about everything, but batting average, he's hitting 325. 23 double, 15 triple, 38. Home is in 121 RBI, strike one on the outside corner. Gidry trying to keep that ball away from Rice, as outstanding power to the opposite field. Let's see how he works him on deck, Yostremsky, the kick.

29:51Pitch bounced to short, backhand and Bowie, Bobblet picks it up, throws, safe at first base, and that'll be an error shot to Bucky Dent. For some reason, Bucky went to back, they said only, how Dent was there, and for some reason tried a backhand, instead of getting in front of the ball, Bobblet at moment, Charlie and Jars did miss Rice. Burlton had a hold in seconds, but the official score has given him a base hit. Maybe he want Rice to be the triple-fran winner. A batter, Tom Yostremsky hitting 287. 19 doubles in triple, 12 homers and 65 runs battered in. 30:53And, Sran and I have told you, the first inning is a big inning in any ball game, or either team. Swing and a miss that had good breaking pitch, down it away, one-on-one. Red sucks still with a two-game lead over the Ackies, and another game to be played tomorrow afternoon. Gidry gets the sign from Munchen. Rice leads off first, Burlton off second. Bouncing ball the first, Chameless will, play it himself, is only play, two men are out, the run is advanced, Rice the second, Burlton the third, and a batter will be causing fits. This batting, two-98, 37 double, three triples, 20 homers and 79 runs batted in. All right, Gidry standing back on the grass and back on the mound.

31:57Van is that Rivers shallow, Fran. Look at him, just a few years ago, Chris Lewis was back in a ball, very well, and if he makes a mistake, he can outrun the baseball. I see him, but I've never seen him play, even with the wind blowing a gale. Roy White not deep in left field. Run is that second and third, two-out, Gidry whine, and a pitch-like one-call, the breaking pitch, nipped the outside corner. On deck, barbelly. Run is lead away at second and third, Gidry takes a deep breath, is pitch-wing and a miss at a slide of that really broke in and down, nothing in two. Run Gidry with 215 strikeouts on the air. Head of fifths going to, is pitch-frike break-balled, all the cow-fifths forward looking. What a time to take a fall, third strike.

32:58Great pitching by Gidry, no runs, two hits, no errors, two men left. At the end of one, the Yankees, nothing in the red stock, nothing. It's time to let it go, it's the moment to a wide. It's a big, over and big. It's a big, over and big. And for the weekend, it's time to settle back, can't defeat your career. No matter what you do, no matter when, no matter where, you know what the life for good is like in big years, when you've been first. Still leads the Yankees in our BI. Best ball line to left center, Lynn going over to his right, and one here is it, and there would have been an extra base hit on a calm day. Ball was hit on the nose, the wind held it up one away. That brings up Greg Nettles. Nettles hitting 274. 20 doubles a triple, 23 homers and 79 runs batted in.

36:04Anian Strensky moves a little more towards left center now, with Nettles up. Lynn is playing just about straight away and set a right, and it's very deep in right field. And the Pitch and Nettles, five, all won. Did it bother you, friend? A lot of home paris. I noticed guys see who will put his hand once in a while, and this showed it. When an umpire did that. How did it work out? Low. Two and nothing. Yes it did. They had an umpire shade, Crawford and Nashville. You always do that. He would put the arm right around the catcher, hold his stomach. No kid. Yeah, it was tough to throw with the guy hanging on you. You ever check him out? No, we started dating shortly after that. All right, the two nothing pitch. Lined a right field as a base hit for Nettles. The first Yankee hit of the ball game. So Nettles singles with one out to right field.

One I really shouldn't have been a bass hit as Bucky Dad Miss Played Jim Rice's Groundball to Shortstop Rice was given a bass hit by the official score. By Don Delas, Gidry pitched a two-hit shut out. He became the first opposing left-hand pitcher in better than four years to pitch a shut out against the Red Sox here at Fenway. Kenny Holtz went in 1974 August 25th. The last time it was done he was pitching men for the Oakland A's. Gidry does one is 21st game of the year against only two losses. He is now beaten every team in the American League. He got good support of field by the Yankees who committed only one hour and ninth inning error by Bucky Dad. As we said the ball hit by Rice in the first inning was a very questionable call by the official score.

2:54:55And the Yankees as they have in every game in the series so far came up with a big inning scoring all seven of their runs of Dennis Ackersley in the fourth. Then loop another, drove in a run with a fly ball to set a field that blew around in circles, blew away from land, blew away from Duffy, fell to the ground for a double and a run that had in. Then the strategy on the part of the Red Sox call for Roy White to be walked that back by Edwin Bucky-Death, lined the base hit to left-setter to drive in two runs. Mickey Rivers, then singled to drive in two more. What he ran off was walked. Firm and Munson singled to right-field in his second, or single to set a field in his second time at bat in the inning to drive in run number six, sending Randolph to third and Randolph scored the final run on a pass ball charged to Carlton Fisk. The Yankees had seven runs on six hits in the inning and that held up. Gidry was just superb.
