Hello and welcome to a very special edition of Waking Jake. It is October the first day of October and the division series matchups are set. The Yankees are facing the Tampa Bay rays as they defeated the Red Sox. The white socks took down the Houston Astros and they'll go on for an Ale central battle to take on the guard dogs. The San Diego Padres knocked out the cubbies think I want to do a cub soliloquy and goodbye to what was supposed to be a big year for them.
And now it's joker. San Diego and the brewers are going to tee it up in a really fun matchup. And then the Phillies are going to play. Oh, are they? I don't know. The Phillies and the Braves are playing tonight, depending when you listen to this, you'll already know. In a way, it's going to be a similar discussion. They're going on to face the Dodgers, whether it is the Atlanta Braves or the Philadelphia Phillies going on to face the Dodgers. So we'll probably save that for the end because as of right now, I don't know. But the forecast is really similar. NLE's team, who was a former power and still might have power is going to try to take on the Dodgers for five. So the dramatic only game three wild card set will be live streaming that tonight. Shelfy, Jimmy Norp and myself. So that'll be something if you're there for it. Enjoy. And yeah, we can say some goodbyes to teams while also teeing up the division series a little bit.
Maybe I'll run into football at the end mostly because I have to set my fantasy lineup. And I haven't done that yet. And if I don't do it, I don't know if I will. I think we've got a London game. So I think this is the first Sunday. If you want to go like 14 hours of football, you can dial that in, which I just may. It works out kind of well for the ink schedule, huh? Huh? How do you like that? Not bad. They're not bad. Jim Calhoun. Go listen to Ryan Rassillo and Gina or Emma. He interviewed him at the back half of an episode the other week. Just incredible. Obviously, Rassillo guy, obviously a Geno guy and man there talk about two stags. It's lock and horns. Or listen to my show. Thanks for thanks for being here after this. Yes. Yes. If you're looking for more content. But yeah, let's let's dive into it because we've been diving in. We're going to do a more deeper DS preview on talking baseball later tonight.
Um, but I can team up for you from my eyes and you can still get trev's views later. And yeah, I'm excited to say goodbye to a couple teams. I'll start with Yankees. I'm, I'm wearing the Yankees hat. I'm Joseph. I'm wearing the Yankees hat. I did throw on our new Hayday's collection. New York Yankees sweater, which is just fire. Again, some of you people care about John Moe Media stuff. Some of you just want to hear more sports and I get that. But we've actually done like an amazing job. We hired the right people to run our apparel side. And then it was kind of one of those moments that's like, wait, we can make cool stuff. Like we're probably not going to be kids. Like we could try. And we don't, I don't think we'll be that cool. But like we're going to have cool stuff. If I may, but we've been, we've been talking about like new materials elevated all that. I hadn't gotten to try anything on until this week. Our department said, by the way, these like four shirts are yours. Hello. And then they're very comfortable material. We did good. For a while, we were just scraping by.
And now we've got like real people and real stuff. So get excited for that. Or again, talk sports little guy. My Yankees defeat the boss and Red Sox, the rivalry. And it sure was. It wasn't. There is a caveat that I'll throw it at the beginning that somehow in a nine, nothing game and a nine two game in the big house in the Bronx. Red Sox Yankees was a two run game in the seventh inning in game one. It was two nothing. Paul Blackburn comes in with a runner on. Tying run at the dish for the boss and Red Sox in the seventh inning. That was game one. That was real. Like Schlippler out of the game. Red Sox up. Chance for them to go. Game two. It was a two to one game in the six inning. Boston had just got their first runoff freed, Contreras homers in that bottom of the six though. The Yankees did push across six runs that ended the series.
Chad Tracy. It was a tough managing performance. As much as I can defend him saying, hey, the guys he brought in from the bullpen, you know, crochet. His first game back, he he ends up with a stat line of 0.0. Three hits for runs. His first batter was a strikeout. The Wilson and Trehris was on the back of the base. So when they threw down a first, Spencer Jones, he beat it out that led to a massive rally. Just a weird bizarre playoff play. Whitlock ends up getting hit around, but was the game over at that point. He pulls his two starting pictures. Pretty early, both at 4.2 innings. Each time it was for Eric Miller, each time Eric Miller gave a paron. So those runs, well, the second one goes to Sonny Gray, because I was a base hit by Belly. But yeah, Chad Tracy in that moment, not seeing, not seeing Whitlock earlier, not seeing Chapman earlier. When again, think about the comparison that's going to go on here.
Like Korra, that was kind of his, that was his strongest thing. It was almost like sometimes shocking, but he was playing to win games and almost running the tightest rope you could. I mean, it was honestly that 2018 was one of the most frustrating runs. For me, a Yankees fan, I'm wearing a Yankees hat in a shirt, because Korra always went right up against the line of how dangerous it could have been. And if one of those moves fell apart, it could have put the Red Sox in a really bad spot. It didn't. It was a dominant postseason run by the end of it. The Chad Tracy comes in. This Red Sox team goes 32 and five. And they're best chunk of the season, which I'm now using against them. Because if you take that away from them, I was doing the turkey math on it. I believe it was like a, was it 59 and 70? If you take out that one chunk of baseball.
So again, it's a good chunk. And you want to be careful with that, because I've also been the guy that says, hey, if you look at a lot of baseball teams, if you have four, five hundred months and two good months, you're like a 90 plus one team, which makes you high level. Yeah, I mean, this Boston Red Sox team, I think the truth of it is they had one hot, amazing run. And that was also followed by getting to the postseason, having an inexperience manager, while also being outgunned. Like Roman Anthony was supposed to be the guy for this team. He leaves in the middle of the first game after an injury riddled year. And man, I'll tell you what, as far as must watch players go for next season, Roman Anthony's next step of his career is going to be highly monitored. We got peeps. Well, I was just clearing my throat, but I did have friends who are Red Sox fans, who are talking about him. Like, man, what's the, what's the comp for other sports? Is he, uh, Jayden Daniels, like, looks really good.
I can't say healthy. I was like, well, intense for me, but yeah, I mean, I see where you're coming from and you're close to the situation. Baseball's just a tricky one. He's just needs to flash the talent again, which down the stretch, he was showing a little bit of an injury riddled season. Hey, there was a time when Bryce Harper was considered an injury prone player. And he played 162 this year and no one talked about Bryce like that in a while. So, hey, I, I think Roman Anthony stock is still fine. If you're selling low, I think I'm still buying. But, um, if not, big April for him next year. Uh, and then yeah, I, hey, the Yankees strength is there starting pitching, uh, max reading, camp, Schletler were unbelievable. And it was in Yankee Stadium, which when we get to Cubs, Padre's later, I, I do want to talk about that. That as disappointing as it was that the Yankees didn't win the division and that this playoff format is what it is that the Yankees were the second best team, probably, probably a different year upcoming,
where they would get the buy. Um, their pitching was nasty. Their platoon lineup worked. Um, and they were the better team. And that's how it played out, which it doesn't always play out that way in, in a two to three game series. But with how high level their pitching was, um, and I like to think the stadium helped. These red socks, Mickey Gaspir was amazing for them. He wasn't a part of this series. Um, Roman Anthony, Wilson Trairs was hurt. Again, how hurt, Raphael got hurt right before this. He goes, oh, for the series, like they, uh, they really limped into this and they really limped out of this that, um, a cap to one of the weirdest, most bizarre, I would say baseball seasons by any team ever from firing the manager to the hottest streak ever, to midling again, to Mickey Gaspir, to all of it. And one of the funnier things I saw going around today, as I segue out a little bit. How about the Garrett crochet trade, Kyle Teal, chase my drawth,
Braden Montgomery, and I believe there's another pitcher involved. Um, that white socks team won a playoff series before the red socks did with crochet. Little funny business there, huh? How do you like that? I saw it on Instagram, whoever posted that credit to you, unless it's fucking wrong. And now I look like an idiot. You know, you embarrassed me. Barry, um, congrats to the Yankees. They're going on face the Tampa Bay rays. If you want the deep dive, we just did a talk in Yanke's episode around an hour, going through the ins and outs of it. I'll give you the high level for now. Uh, both teams can throw the hell out of the ball. These Yankees starting pitching with the extra off day. Um, you know, the rays are coming in the postseason with five starting pictures. They like Rasmussen, Peralta, Seymour, Jackson Martinez, Jackson Martinez, both with bullpen experience. Seymour may as well, um, but, and it'll be interesting to see how they employ him against the kind
of platoon bottom of the lineup Yankees. And it's a little bit of the same for the Yankees at the same time. Try taking the ball out of Garrett Coles' hand, try taking the ball out of Schlytler's hand, try taking the ball out of Frees' hand, uh, with Carlos Rodón, uh, also pitching fantastic this year. It's going to be interesting. Raise have home field advantage there. The best home team, the Yankees were the best road team this year. The TROP, one of the more dynamic places to play for obvious reasons, uh, especially the way the raise play baseball. I'll be interested to see, uh, for me, could I see the Yanks being the big bad wolf? And like we look back in a couple days in a week. And it's like, man, the Yankees shoved again. And they're pitching. There's an argument I'd have to actually research this. And you guys know this isn't my strength. I believe there is a world where this is the best Yankees pitching staff to ever enter a postseason. Because normally there's injuries. A lot of the great Yankees teams are built on hitting that, you know, that the 2009 run,
it was a sabathea and Burnett. And I'm missing someone that they were literally doing. What was that? Petty, petty. They were doing three, man. Andy, I'm sorry. That butt chin. They were doing a three man rotation in like Burnett didn't have a good year. Legend of Andy pet it. And then yeah, if you go through a lot of those dinosaur Yankees teams, obviously good pitching and who L. Duke was in the postseason. Now I'm getting a little deep into it. But like, the Yankees franchise is kind of built on hitting. If you go around and you do best Yankees hitters, when you start going through the lineup, you're like, holy smokes. You start doing pictures and you're like, oh, wait, where's how high is that guy? Hi guys. That good early talking to yanks when you were we were doing like put together. Let's do a Yankees draft and you're like, how high is Qingming Wang going? No, that's a little dramatic. But it's a franchise built on big boppers and hitting.
And this could this is, I think there's an argument. This is their best pitching staff to ever enter the postseason. That going up against the Tampa Bay rays who had the best regular season in the AL, they have their top three of their lineup. They have a platoonee part of their lineup that's going to be fun to see how they employed that. Good back end of the bullpen that yeah, I mean, this might sound corny, but I think it's the truth of it is raised baseball going to win out. Is it going to be choppy and action and making the Yankees make plays and they struggle again? Or is it the Yankees coming through and the rays are going to wake up and it's one one or it's two nothing yanks and they go back to the stadium? There's a world where that happens because these Yankees can really pitch and they just need a little bit of hitting. Is judge going to be on the team? We don't know. We're kind of leaning. No, but there's a world where he is. And yeah, hey, this raised team as much as I'm again, wearing Yankee gear saying,
oh, if we go back to the stadium like that, Drew Rasmussen's career numbers against the Yankees are disgusting. Oh, you're saying that the 39 yanks pitched a little better, Beeps? Uh, just by the the quickest query I could do, I wasn't able to do like a filter starting pitching that maybe would have flipped them, but, but either way, it's by the first filter I could do is the second best Yankee pitching season ever. Okay. Yeah. And the best, when in a loose search, the best Yankees pitching staff in the last 85 years. There's an argument that yet Drew Rasmussen, I believe it's 59, 59 career innings against the Yankees and it's an ERA that's below two and there's one blow up in there that if how nasty he has been against the New York Yankees is really disgusting. And yeah, it's raised pitching like whoever touches the mound is going to be talented or have an ability or have a lane that how much are they going to try to mess with the Yankees? The raise love when the yanks get in the mud with them. We've
literally talked to former raise front office members that laugh when the Yankees used to try to match up with them and do gimmicks. And the raise were like, guys, we have to do that. You don't that that's going to be a fun little chess match. And Yankee fans are running pretty high right now because they just watch them pump the red socks in the playoffs technically. If that didn't exist, Yankee fans would be a lot more nervous, which in my head, I'm honestly doing that, didn't exist. Like the Red Sox team was not good. And the Yankees did this last year. They beat the Red Sox. They went out to play a really good Toronto team. Toronto gave them the business. The Yankees are lined up pitching wise better this time around. And Toronto was on like, God mode last year. It was insane the way those guys hit. They should have won the World Series. Tampa has some of that energy. It is also lined up for, you know, the postseason can happen quick
that if the Yankees can neutralize Caminero. I mean, look what just happened with Yordon and PCA. Let's see how it plays out. I picked Tampa before the playoffs. I'm trying not to get too blinded by my Yankee heart. And, uh, well, yeah, that Tampa had an amazing regular season. I do feel a little better after what the Yankees just did. So, but part of that is just the Yankees advancing. I got Peyton Toli could have gone eight innings shut out and they win game one. And again, Ranger Suarez not pitching should be talked about a little more like his postseason history is incredible. Like, okay, let me go back to Alex Kora for a second. I think Alex Kora has Ranger Suarez pitch in games one or two with his postseason history with his ability to come out of the bullpen. Yeah, I don't think it was like, uh, he wasn't available to do that. If
that's what they need, like you have to do anything to get to game three. And they didn't manage that way at all. At all. Um, that's what's going on on that side of the American league. I teased it just a little bit. The Chicago White Sox have beaten the Houston Astros. This episode is sponsored by Quince. Quince sent over a couple of their polos, a short sleeve and a long sleeve. And they became part of the rotation. And you know, can't have enough arms come this time a year. And Quince, they've got premium wardrobe staples, polos, tea's pants, true story. Super producer Rob Shirako the other day was like, oh, I seen these Quince pants. I want I was like, what if I told you we're here, pal, because they've got a hundred percent Mongolian cashmere. Oh, organic cotton marina wool timeless pieces designed to hold up and get worn on repeat and everything is price 50 to 80 percent left. That's Quince Q U I N C E.com slash Bakers again. I uh, Cyliliqui wise Houston disaster. They fired their GM in the season. They told their manager. You're not coming back. And after losing these two games, their regular season and post season record is 81 and 83. That's a bad baseball team. That's a bad baseball team and they showed it. They couldn't pitch. They couldn't pitch all year. And in a big spot where they needed Hunter Brown to be the guy he couldn't get out of the first inning. And then they still battling that game. They almost come back good on the white socks. Well, again, they blew the division. Cleveland catches
up with them. They were a fun story in the sport. I do. I'm going to give myself a little pat on the back. We're deep enough in as I told you guys to go listen to another show earlier. Um, I'm currently three for three on the wild card. Again, it's it's not insane. And we'll see what happens with Phillies and Braves tonight. But for me, as I when I was looking at these teams, I didn't know how Houston was going to make it through nine innings. I saw how the white socks could. The white socks had some bullpen weapons like a guy like Jordan Hicks. Jordan Hicks is pitching real games. Jordan Hicks throws a hundred. That guy can get you some outs. Grant Taylor and who he's been for them this year. I didn't know about Fettie. He kind of looked good. Um, that they were able to pitch enough to get through these games where go look at some of the guys that pitch for Houston. And I people I talking yanks, talking baseball, waking Jake. I'm recording a lot of baseball content every day. We have Bailey on. We do prospects. We do we do old teams. We do who's this guy in the bullpen.
We do kind of every kind of baseball conversation we could. Here's I mean, I almost want to make this a fake short of like, is this guy a Houston Astros bullpen pitcher or made up name Logan vanway. He pitched Josh Hendrickson pitched. Miguel Yolola Pish. Well, it's just a funny name. So I like to say it. But they didn't have a plan. They didn't have a plan to get through these games. For nine innings against a pesky white socks offense. And that showed up. And hey, a Houston team who finished number one in home runs. Kind of shocking. Um, Jordan gets neutralized that they're they're fighting with their fan base saying that they were saying that the fans needed to get their earlier for the game. And then when they said that, they gave up four runs in the top of the first. So really tough mix end of Houston. They're going to have some loud questions this off
season as Al Tuevig gets another year older. Payne is going to be in a contract year. You're on coming off an MVP season. They need so much pitching. It's it is truly jarring truly jarring. On the other side of that, the Chicago white socks advance, uh, like I mentioned with their patch Sean Burke has an all time quote. Uh, he doesn't end up having the best performance, but, you know, love baseball, no family, no girls, no anything else. Sure. Um, but yeah, in that back end, Grant Taylor, um, Jordan Hicks back to back games, Brazo Bond, who they traded for from the Metz, uh, Anthony Kay lefty throwing 97 98 for them. Fettie hit 97. Sandland can throw hard. So am I playing the V low game too much? Like if these guys get rocked by Cleveland, maybe, um, but they also have a fun offensive formula. Uh, Chase Mydrauth has been one of the better AL second baseman all year. Miguel Vargas has been one of the best AL third baseman all year. Uh, Murakami has power like every guy kind of has their thing
and knows what they're doing. And again, this was Jakey Spinzone to an umpteenth degree. Colson Montgomery finished the season really poorly, but that had him batting ninth. So Colson Montgomery, who's their 31 home run hitting shortstop, finished the season at Trojus, he's hitting ninth for them. He hit a home run. The nine hole hitter. Um, and who knows if he's banged up, who knows if he has postseason magic, but I don't know, kind of a nice guy to slot down at nine instead of just hoping he clicks and the white socks can do that. So they'll go on and they're going to face the guard dogs. Your AL central, the white socks took seven out of six games in the regular season. Again, games that mattered down the stretch. Um, tight. The scoring in those games was 58 to 57. Um, Chicago went foreign to it home and then three and four at progressive field. So Cleveland's going to have the home field advantage. Um, these teams did play down the stretch. They played in
July, August and September, which uh, the Yankees and raised like didn't have that. They played in September, but the games didn't matter. Like the race already clinched. So uh, these teams have seen each other's like version of these teams. They've played competitive baseball. Um, you've got a few walkoffs in there. You got one ten and I think we've got four walkoffs in their 13 games. Uh, pretty evenly matched. I know the central gets a bad name, but guess what? The AL West has the worst name this year. So I'm glad that those teams are going to be in it up there. If the bracket bracket is set up this way, the American League does get the weird extra off day that we're doing in the DS this year. I mentioned that with Yankees raised a little bit that whether it's your bullpen or lining up your starting pitching or using starting pitching and relief, you can do a little more funny business in a five game set, which I think that helps the white socks a little bit, who they have to piecemeal their formula a little bit more. Again, the other side of that is
Cleveland doesn't have to because they have actual starting pitching and Gavin Williams and Parker Messick who are tremendous this year. A little Joey Cantillo. You know, I will Tanner is a vibe. Cleveland's pretty good. I have Cleveland winning this series. Home field advantage. I think they can pitch better. I think they might sneaky be able to hit a little better. You guys have heard me do my Cleveland speech a little bit. I think when you compare them to previous teams over the past decade, a really strong franchise. I think there's only one or two Cleveland teams that you can easily say was as good or better than this team. And they've had some good teams. So very interested to see how that sorts out. It's their first ever postseason meeting. So how about that? New playoffs, central five gamers to figure it out. Yankees and Reyes face each other once. It was during COVID 2020 in San Diego crazy. It's going to be fun. And hopefully, hey, as we've been rude to the central, maybe this sparks a little sparks a little sum sum in the
A.L. Central. Maybe we see these two teams battle it out for a few years. How fun would that be in the national league and my goodness. We um, it's something Bill Simmons is really good at as I just promote every other sports podcast. Go check them out. Check out PM two and you get a second. Um, Simmons when it comes to playoff basketball, I end up laughing a ton because playoff basketball, it's great. I mean, you've got short rotations. You see players that just get eliminated and you're like, what dude? You're a 22 point per game score in the regular season and the postseason, we can't give you the ball. It's pretty jarring. It's so funny to me how Simmons brains work because he instead of talking about the game or what happened, he would much rather talk about the eliminated team and what happens next. And that's not normally my formula. Um, but I think when it comes to Padre's Cubs, I do want to start there because the cubbies are done. The cubbies are eliminated and
man, it was ugly. They got dominated in two games. Only one extra base hit. It came in the ninth inning of the final game. It's two games. Um, what I loved about this Cubs team and I had hopes for them throughout the season was all the professional at bats up and down the lineup. And that didn't happen. They hit on the interstate against this San Diego team that has a pretty clear playoff recipe. The best version of it. We could all see it. You just never know if you're going to get that. They got that in a big way. My clickbait take would be the Cubs lost this series a week and a half ago when they lost having these games in Chicago at rigley. Uh, the crowd in San Diego was tremendous. Rigley is obviously a one of one stadium and amazing crowd and the Cubs led baseball in OPS and runs. A lot of that is PCA. A lot of that was Breggman getting hot down the stretch. A lot of that is a professional lineup that I rave about and a lot of that ball flew out of
rigley this year. It's just a fact that stadium has some good days and some bad days. I think that stadium had a couple good days this year. Um, our guy PCA gets neutralized pretty hard in this series. Um, Ofer, Ofer, half of his bats ended in strikeouts. Uh, Breggman also Ofer, um, after having a very nice season and he ends his half is a bats in strikeouts. He got hidden the eye before. I don't know. Nobody wants excuses. It is what it is. And the bigger thing for me to be honest, I know the offense didn't show up and sometimes that happens. And again, San Diego can throw the hell out of the ball. I didn't know how they were going to get through with their pitching and in that first game, they got embarrassed at the party. In the second game, I guess they kept it close. I mean, that pinch hit it bat by sheets is kind of a series. Ender. I mean, in fact, it was, um, I called it God's betting. Holy sheets. I don't know. I don't know. Stir it
around your mouth. See if you want it. Um, if I'm a Cubs fan, one thing I'm super uncomfortable with clay homes in a pitch in this series, which Cubs fans were saying, like he's our best pitcher. That would hurt me. And then I know Cubs fans doled me on this. I love showed him an aga. I think he's got stones. I think he's a good pitcher. I know he gives up the go for ball. But guess where we pitch these games? San Diego, a place where it's really tough to hit the go for ball. And yeah, as BBD just put up on the screen, um, man, the Cubs traded away their number one prospect, uh, for clay homes and Tyrone Taylor. And then, uh, they also traded away their number two prospect or maybe they flipped. I think Owen Casey was their number one. And before the season, they traded him for Edward Cabrera. So the Cubs team that was like emerging and on their way. And how are they going to take the next step? They traded for Kyle Tucker. No dice.
Edward Cabrera, Clay Homes and Tyrone Taylor right now ain't working out. That they got hit with the injury bug. There's another world where the Cubs playoff formula would have been Cade Horton and Justin Steele. Well, those guys were out. Even Gossman was banged up coming into this and he's battling through that first game. I'd be a little mad about the pitchers that touched the mound. And another way, man, look at that Cubs bullpen and tell me like who you believe in. Polencia ends up getting hit. Um, Zephyr John, Rolison, Webb, Savali Peterson, Assad. I don't know. Uh, I'll be very interested to see their next move. I mean, I'm interested in every team's next move. I'll be in. That's where I live. Uh, this is our interest. Ian happened. Say I Suzuki free agents. That's pretty significant. Those guys have been as staple as two corner outfielders could be the last couple years. Um, the other thing if you're the Cubs and you
need to rebuild this pitching staff a bit like you just got the whooping from San Diego that the emphasis they've put into their bullpen is obviously noticeable that the Cubs for a few years, I've kind of been banging the table on like, Hey, they need, I think you need another guy in the bullpen. You might need another two guys. I think they've been a good pitching like we can tap into dudes for a little bit. So they deserve credit for that. But in October, you need the dudes that the game ends and San Diego has a lot of those guys. And that's why they're exciting. And then dude, if you're also a Cubs fan, you start spinning and you're like, who is Milwaukee? Cause it doesn't feel like they're slowing down. Um, I don't know. You obviously have building blocks there. PCA, Breggman, Bush, Horner, um, Dan's Bay. Where are they going to go? How are they going to build out the rest of this team? Definitely going to be a big off season for them as we start
doing our fun jolly exercises, who's, who's this off season most important for? You might watch. I know I will. They're the team that got eliminated. See ya. Oh, wow. Ricky bull B. Movie. All right. Time to make my same game, Parlay picks for tonight's game, presented by Fanatic Sports and Casino. You can make your own same game, Parlay by picking multiple legs from tonight's game and combine them into one bet. Or you can tell my picks right in the Fanatic Sports book. I had a fun one for you. It's game seven. It's game three. Uh, and I'm not picking a game. I don't have the heart for that. I've got fans on both sides. Here's what I am going with. Let's go over. We got two offensive teams here. We're taking the over and with that, we can then root for dudes. I'm taking the following guys to get a hit. Bryce Harper and Matt Olson, obviously, born on a Tuesday, not last Tuesday. And then I wanted one more little extra juice. What are we doing? Mauricio Dubal. It's kind of my guy. Honduras raise up. Those three guys
to get a hit. Give me the over in the game and give me chaos. I owe both teams when I promise you they won't. So you can tell me or make your own from the first pitch to the final out. The Padres move on they're facing the brewers. They almost had a perfect series them in the Yankees. I mean, you kind of couldn't draw it up better. I guess white socks
had moments of panic. But as far as these two teams go, there was almost never fear. Like never fear you were going to lose a pseudo. I was going to say pseudo playoff game their playoff games they just feel a little different. They'll go on to face the brew crew. The Padres won the season series. Four out of two May in August. It's interesting. Brewers won the first series two out of three and then the Padres swept in San Diego is kind of part of their kind of like let's get it going after the trade deadline baseball. Padres formula is Mike King has to be really special. He was in that first game and then they just need arms that help Nick Paveta 3.1 one or run. Yep. And then you have to get it to those bad men in the bullpen. Brad Lee Rodriguez Jason Adam Adrian Morahon Mason Miller. They got guys after that you came at Sui had a great year.
Um, when they hit which Thai France has all years, and her Boards hasn't he hit this series. Jackson Merrill has been back. Machado obviously. Tatees. When I made my postseason picks. I got when it came to San Diego versus Milwaukee, I was really in a blender. Um, because I don't want to undersell what Milwaukee did as good of a regular season season team. They are. They shouldn't be knocked for that because their postseason formula is really, really good as well. And they're a team that circled. Let's get better this year. Let's be stronger so we can get back in the dance and we can beat those Dodgers. They've checked every box. When I was filling out my bracket, it was the only time that I felt kind of unsure. I mean Yankees race obviously. Um, I think if you did this series, it's corny. Nobody likes this.
If you did this series 10 times, I think it's five and five. I just think San Diego stars can show out with the best of them. It's, it's the Tatees effect. Maybe I'll label it that way. And what their pitching can do on the back end. Along with Milwaukee's pitching, every inning, although they're starting pitching got a little less scary as the year went on after Miss Arouski. Logan Henderson, Shane Drone, Gasser May Kyle Harrison has fallen out of favor. He's in the bullpen. He kind of ran out of steam. They can match up lefty, righty. They can make games ugly. They scored. They had the first batting average in the first on base in baseball. It feels like they're it felt like they've had the pitching side of the ball figured out. And now it feels like this next evolution of Bruce baseball, they have the offensive side of the ball figured out. They just made Christian Yelts. They're captain. What does that mean? I don't know. They're hoping it means a very special October. Hey, game one should be Miss Arouski versus Robbie Ray.
Robbie Ray struggled in San Diego. You got to get that one and then figure out the rest. Kind of got to win those two first games because if you give San Diego a shot to go back to that place and end the series, I know we have a little Ryan Cohen effect at this company. But San Diego's got one of the best home field. I'd have to really think about it. And obviously, we'll see what goes on this post season. I think that place as Dodger fans giggle. But I think those people are crazy for baseball. I think that stadium has an effect to it that if they stay in this post season, I, you know, socials put out the video and I always get nervous when Dodgers fans are on the receiving end because they can get hot saying that I thought the Padres have the best chance to beat the Dodgers. I do believe that. And Dodger fans were replying like, yeah, like don't get me wrong. There were some Dodger fans from the top rope like the Padres, bro.
We don't do that. There was other real Dodger fans that were like, yeah, like we see it with San Diego. It's everything I just laid out. Tateesco's nuts, the rest of the lineup contributes. They get the ball. They get the lead by the fifth inning. The game can end. When did Brad Glee come in? I think he came in the fourth. Like Paveta gave them 3.1 and then it was Bradley. Crazy name. It's just a crazy name. You hate to be a white guy talking into a mic because we've, we've got bad names too. Brad Glee. That's kind of a bad white name. Brad Glee. Yeah. Is he, Venezuela? Is he one of Jimmy's? Venezuelans have kind of crazy names. You learned this. Yes. Yeah. That is interesting. And he's nasty. He can throw the baseball with the best of them. That is going to be a very fun series. And like I laid out to you guys,
the Dodgers isn't that funny? It feels like we've had a postseason round. No way we have and we haven't. The wild card is kind of the mild card just being real. I just talked about three division series. Did this last year too? It could all be for not very soon. Because here come the bad guys, the two time defending champ Los Angeles Dodgers who are healthy are going to be waiting. Whoever wins the Atlanta vs Philly series. The NL Beast gets figured out tonight. No, and kind of an opener unless you're good starter role. Ray Kerr getting the opener followed by Grant Holmes supposedly. I think they're attacking those Philly's lefties in that first inning. So almost an instant result there. If he can get the job done or not. I had the braves winning the series because Philly was so limping coming into it. Philly could
have won the first two games. I mean, there what a bad Austin Riley pitch away from winning that first game. Atlanta could say the same thing. I mean, there are they a bad pitch to Alec Bome away. Are they a bad pitch to Shorber away? Like they can be doing the same thing that these two teams have been close for years. People thought the Philly's were going to catch the braves down the stretch and then they were one of the worst teams to end the season. A lot of veteran guys that have been through a lot of games, a lot of big games on this Philly team. You can kind of say the same with Atlanta. Going from the 2 p.m. game to the 8 p.m. game in a way, another clickbait Jay coming out. You could say tonight is the first playoff game. Do or die 8 p.m. in Atlanta. Got the pitching. I'm very interested to see how bullsides try to get through it. Doran in the bullpen. He got a, you got hit
the first game and then they kind of mentioned he might be banged up. Shout out to Alex McFarlane pitching in the first two games for Philly and Andrew Painter with a special outing yesterday, which by the way, your boy took him in the draft against foolish on the young studs draft, even though I was unsure, but looks like the light bulbs going on. It's going to be fun. And you guys kind of already know the story of this Philly's team that fired their manager. They were bad, then they were really good and they're kind of bad again. They have the horses in that rotation that hey, if they could get an early lead and not use Zach Wheeler tonight is Zach Wheeler pitching game one against the Dodgers. That would be interesting. Maybe they need Zach Wheeler to get through this game and they're going to have to piecemeal their playoff rotation. Their bullpen horrifies me and I think it horrifies them. Some of the stats about the Philly's bullpen are gross. I think they've, I think they've had a lead in their last three game one of a postseason series
and they've lost it via their bullpen. I don't know. I still think I guess I've talked a lot of Philly's both of these teams can be scary. It's they're going to run into a five game set against the big bad Dodgers. And the Dodgers are going to be heavy favorite and each team would need a little bit a magic. The Philly's it's get to that. We still have our dudes at the top of the line up. Maybe you get a rise back against the Dodgers and they have that rotation. Hopefully they can reset it at some point. Like do you see a Philly's I don't want to say a Philly's punk game, but at some point you just need to get Lasardo Sanchez and Wheeler lined up. How much would they like to have the double off day? It's crazy. If they survive. Have they rotated that? Or is it always there over here? Damn. Yeah. They would really like that. And then on the other side, the Atlanta Braves Chris sale did his thing. They have a bullpen that their guys they like to use have been used
on back to back nights. Robert Suarez hasn't pitched yet. Ray Kerr hasn't pitched yet. Grant Holmes who's supposed to be the follower. It's a lot of Ronnie. It's a lot of Olsen. It's a lot of Harris too. It's a lot of Baldwin man. I'm sticking with Atlanta. I think they can get through this game a little easier than Philadelphia. I want home field advantage to matter. And they get their first night game in that building. And I I think they are the better all around team. Philly still does have that star power. If you're tuning in tonight, if this gets to you by then, I'm going to be Root and Philly because I'll be with Shelfie. And that's how we do our streams here. We're supportive queens. So I think it's me, Shelfie and Norp. So we'll be Root and for the Ila Delph. And it's a win-win. I'll be on it. I mean, the Braves and the Philly's are both good teams. You know, the Cubs getting eliminated. And this turns into ALNL. And I've done this with you guys, but like Cubs are a good
team that got eliminated. They had a ton of pitching injuries. Whichever one of these teams gets eliminated, that's a good team. That's a team that's going to give the Dodgers a scare maybe in the next round. They have the ability to, um, but yeah, the two NL teams getting knocked out. And the questions it's going to leave for Philadelphia or Atlanta on the way out. Um, big for each franchise. Big for each franchise. Um, with that, let me look at the NFL. I'm just going to walk us through. This is for me too. This is for me too. Pittsburgh Cleveland tonight. That's second screen stuff. Maybe third. A second screen. Go people. If you're watching this show, enjoy some Braves Philly's tonight. Division rivals. Good team, star players. That's the main TV. Steeler's Cleveland can be the second tube. Um, that's at 815 PM. And then on Sunday, October 4th, my mom's birthday.
That's right. Uh, Colts first Washington. Yeah, okay. Not a must, but grab your coffee. Mary Odever, Daniel Jones. Haven't seen them in the same room. Uh, is Jaden going to play. Colts are favored. How do you like that? Um, yeah, I like the London game. Not from the standpoint of it's good. I like the London game of the standpoint that it exists. Um, and I saw my guy Justin Pugh on Instagram today because they had a real game this year fighting for an Italy game. I'm there. I'm there. Pugh. Anyways, one PM New England Buffalo. Drake, may. He's been in the bad place for a little bit. And Buffalo has been rolling. Buffalo's a touchdown favorite. Be interested to see New England's heard a lot of stuff about them. Are they going to have the fight or is Buffalo going to have the clause out to try to bury them? I'm burying you. Bears jets. Fire it up, baby. Uh, bears minus
three and a half kind of like what the jets have been doing. Um, if they were named a different franchise. Yeah, I think people would like the jets a little bit more. They're one and two. It is what it is. I mean, they blew that. They blew that game to the Packers that should have it feeling a little different because the Lions have been scoring 30 points a week. Are the Lions back? I don't know. Um, Jacksonville, Sinsi, fire me up as like a game you don't watch, but you watch like the highlights from this game should be electric. I like both teams wide receiving cores. I think the Jags offense has sneaky been humming with another gear to go while the bangles. Obviously they can turn on. What burrow Higgins, um, and Jamar do every week is so awesome. Like they're definitely up there. If we did a draft, which I don't know, long off season, of just like cool sports teams. You know, I'm trying to think Lob City is obviously a famous one.
Even that bangles team with Huzman Zata and Ocho Sinko, like that was kind of a sick bangles team. They had they had like an identity. Yes. Um, trying to think who I mean, early golden state before got cool. Um, I don't know like the great grind Grizzlies. Yeah. Like Zibo. Okay. We'll think about it. Something that's football. Uh, the giants and Cardinals are playing giants with the chance to go three and one with Jamis behind the wheel. Cardinals have sneaky been playing decent football. It's a West Coast team coming east. Um, I don't know what the giants fans want. I think you want to win. Uh, does nine times two enter the game? McCarthy. My God. Go check out talking giants because they there's some good drama going on over there right now. Rams Eagles is kind of your premiere game. The Rams are one and two going to Philadelphia. Shish. Philly just got the business last week from
the Bears. What the hell is that? They have a tendency to give you a lot of what the hell games, but sometimes they can do what the hell the other ways. Um, these seems to have played some fantastic postseason games. Um, man, what's the line there? Rams favored by more than a field goal. I don't know. I don't know. Are the Eagles going to be nasty? Are they going to lay an egg? And is that a bird joke? Packers, bucking ears. I don't know, man. I, I told Green Bay fans like, hey, what can go wrong with Green Bay? They always find a way and Packers fans were like, we don't feel that way. And they're one and two and it's been ugly. Tampa was a team I really liked coming into the year and they are own three and they look at rocious. So I, I don't know. The over under in that game is 30 and a half. I don't think Baker's playing. All right. I know it's up in the air. So like Jesus. Okay, Titans Ravens. Ravens have been nasty. Massive spread. Dallas Houston. Houston needs a win. Bad. They're minus three.
That's that series. Those Texas teams always have a little bit of funny business. It feels like where the they were a super bowl favorite. Crazy. Minnesota Miami probably hard pass. How about three and over? So in three, the Vikings get to four and old this year. Um, a lot of Carson Wentz. There's a reason I highlighted tall Vikings coach. He can coach. He can coach. Chiefs raiders starts the four p.m. Slur. No, we're in the four p.m. Slur. Uh, both three and oh, one of those teams will be four and oh. I think all of us have a lean on the safer pick. Uh, but how about the raiders and how about one Tom Brady becoming really well respected in the booth? Two sneaky runs the raiders. Um, sneaky runs the raiders. Uh, and hey, a raiders team is three and oh, which I've seen. We've seen raiders seasons where three games being one is a question throughout the season. So good, good on them. Niners Broncos. Okay, this four p.m. Slay. Little juicy,
Lucy. My horse is playing the Niners in Santa Clara. I like it. Um, Niners are three and oh, Australia be damned. My Broncos with an amazing win last week. Bonix has me on the hook again. I kind of need to see it this year and they got me against the Rams. Um, sneaky me and trev bull. Neither of us really care. We do. Charger Seahawks. I'm good on that. Um, although the charger season, that could be that could be all time poop. And then the nightcap lines. Panthers. Why not? We like Bryce Young Falcon Saints on Monday night. So I'd say this four p.m. Denver San Francisco cheese raiders maybe. Um, or just do the whole damn day London at nine thirty grind it out. There is going to be NL baseball that day. Let me see if I can get you times. Um, on Sunday, do they have
that yet or doesn't matter? No. Four p.m. And eight p.m. So buckle up for some NLDS game to get ready for a football weekend. Get ready for a lot of baseball. It's a good sports time of year. Is hockey back? I believe they're back. I saw the Rangers played. Um, NFLs NFLs coming. You guys are the absolute best. Enjoy every minute of it. We'll be back next week. Go sports. Subscribe, I guess. To my show and everyone else's. Thank you.
