Also, President Trump promises to send a $90 refund check to 20 million American seniors to help pay for their Medicare Part B premiums before the midterm elections. Next, they talk about Supreme Court Justice Samuel Alito who discussed his views of the Supreme Court on Fox News amid speculation that the 76-year-old jurist may be considering retirement. And finally, they take a look at the first day of this fall’s Supreme Court calendar, which includes review of a case brought by the city of Boulder against two large oil companies seeking restitution for environmental harm they attribute to climate change. Pennsylvania, the fifth largest state and the biggest swing state in the nation, is under a attack by national progressive billionaires and millionaires. Why? Because as Pennsylvania goes, so goes the nation. That's what Matt Breiett explains in his new book, You Gotta Win Pennsylvania, called Entrepreneurs to Save America. Why entrepreneurs? Well, just look at America's history. Entrepreneurs founded this great nation. These were innovators banding together to launch an unprecedented experiment in liberty and self-government. Now, 250 years later, this same entrepreneurial vision is what will save America. And in You Gotta Win Pennsylvania, Matt explains how Pennsylvania is ground zero in the fight for America. But he doesn't just give the problem, he gives the solution, and that's you. You can be part of what entrepreneurs in Pennsylvania are already doing to win

Pennsylvania and save America. Check out You Gotta Win PA.com to learn more and get a copy of this eye-opening book on how the future of freedom and prosperity in America runs through Pennsylvania. That's You Gotta Win PA.com Oh look, you just got added to a meeting about coordinating another meeting to prepare for the pre-meeting ahead of the follow-up meeting, which will, of course, require a recap meeting. And then another meeting. It's your booking point, book with Southwest, and an RR plane mode. Welcome to Real Clear Politics. On the Making Kelly Channel, Syria's XM 111.

Welcome to Ruther politics on series XM for Monday, October 5th in Andrew Walworth. Enjoying me, R C P Co. Founder and President Tom Bevin and Washington Bureau Chief Call Canon. So guys, let's start with some overseas news. France is experiencing these major riots in cities across the country. These started last Monday with high school students protesting cuts in teaching staffs, but they've now spread with some 5,000 arrests have been made. This is all against a background of widespread youth unemployment, widespread immigration, and increased government spending as part of the nation's GDP, which people pointed to as part of the problem. So Tom, what is happening in France and is this a cautionary tale at all for the United States? It is. You know what's interesting about this. This is one of those stories that when I was working on the Ruclor politics front pages this morning, I was looking around for stories on this. I hadn't really seen much about it over

the weekend. And then when I was online, when I was on X, I was seeing these horrible images. One of a firefighter who's in flames and all of these protesters, quote-unquote, I'm using air quotes there, rioters were standing around like filming him, being literally in flames. And then there was another video of them beating up a teacher, one woman who apparently was sort of a bystander, this animal who was dressed all in black, basically took like an aerosol can and lit it and turned it into a flame throw and burnt her face. I mean, there's some really horrific images they're going on. And yet not getting a ton of coverage. And so when I was looking for something on this this morning, I do what sometimes I will do when you cannot find stories in the mainstream media about this. And by the way, there are stories. If you do like a Google search of news, you'll find but those stories are effectively like in the New York Times and BBC and they basically say student protesters, you know, it's like doesn't cover like the fact that these these protests turn

very violent and that there's this other element to it. A lot of these folks are immigrants from North Africa and other places that you know, and they're protesting this supposed, you know, lack of lack of funding for schools, even though the funding in France for schools went up like by a billion dollars and one of the places they burned was a brand new 77 million euro facility, the Nelson Mandela School, which said pictures of it's like the it's like the nicest place you've ever seen and apparently used to be now it's now just ashes. So Tom, nothing says love of education like burning down schools and dousing teachers with gas. Exactly. Exactly. Anyway, found I went to substacking found someone who had written about this and we put that on the front page and I urge our readers, you know, anybody who's listening, go go read it and and read more about this story because on the surface, it seems the media is presenting it as, oh, it's just these disgruntled teenagers, you know, they're not getting taught enough. They don't have enough resources. Meanwhile,

it's it's a much darker, more sinister story that involves sort of, you know, immigrants and violence and this sort of hijacking of of the French, French society of French culture. Yeah, yeah, it's a piece it's by a Jean Kurt Haik, I think I have his name right, he's the author of a book out of the melting pot into the fire and the pieces and substacking you can find it on our CP today. It's a pretty interesting stuff. Carl, what do you think? Well, there was a mayor in one of these local towns on self-enemigrant who said that, you know, violence is acceptable. Now, if you're seeing violence as an acceptable form of, you know, acceptable way to address grievances against the government, you're not really calling for protest, you're calling for or revolution. Yeah, you're calling for, you're calling for armed revolution, a violent revolution and people

look across France, people are shocked by what this guy said, but he's the mayor, he's not going anywhere soon. France has an assimilation problem, apparently, a lot of these rioters, not there's no evidence actually that they are students that they were, you know, waving Palestinian flags and Algerian flags. So, you know, it's a, it's one of these inflection points, Andy, you know, you want to overstate it's a fight for the soul of France. That's, you know, I don't know about that, but it's a, we don't, we use the phrase culture wars in the United States. We don't mean it literally, but that's what this portends, a literal cultural war. And just to just to follow up, I mean, you know, so this 15-year-old, apparently, in Paris, picked up a police grenade and had his hand blown off and the mayor of Paris, Emmanuel Grigoir, released a statement saying, all light must be shed on the circumstances of this blatant violence on the part of it law enforcement. No young person should risk being injured on the sidelines

of a mobilization. Young people must be able to make their voices heard. The right to demonstrate peacefully is a fundamental freedom that must be fully guaranteed. I mean, you have the mayor of Paris literally taking sides with the violent protesters. I mean, obviously this was a, you know, a tragedy, this stupid 15-year-old picked up a grenade. Well, you picked up a it's a tear-grash grenade. He was, he was going to throw it back at the police tom. He's not a bystander. Exactly. And so I wanted to hold on. Let me see if I can find this other. And I posted about this. Oh, this is how Le Monde. This is how Le Monde characterizes. This is in their paper this morning. Why French high schoolers are protesting and why their movement is already historic? What began as a spontaneous protest in the Paris suburbs has grown to a scale unseen in decades as students denounced learning conditions and uncertain prospects. The government's essentially repressive response risks fueling for their anger. So, so the leadership and the media

in France are basically taking the sides of these rioters who are wreaking, I mean, they're burning cars and dumpsters and I mean, just just bringing the city to a complete halt. And the establishment is basically taking their side. It's crazy. Yeah. So this piece, I just want to go back to for a second because he sort of points to three things. He points to France's unemployment rate for kids between 15, 24 is 21.6%. It's only it's about 9.1% here in the United States. And he says that's because they have this very high minimum wage. And it is true if you go to France, I'm in there a couple years, but automation is really they've been sort of ahead of us in this sort of fast food automation and that sort of thing. He points to the right ahead of us in the minimum wage. Yes, exactly. He points to that. I mean, if you raise the minimum wage, you it's it leads to automation and fewer jobs for kids. A simulation of 34% of

France's under 18 year old population is a first second or third generation immigrant origin. Two thirds of the immigrants come from the third world. 44% arrive from Muslim majority countries. That's compared to only 4% in the United States. And then he points to a third thing which is French. France's government, the government he says is expected, quote, provide for and handle practically everything. French government spends as a percentage of GDP 57%. It's 37% here in the United States. That's an extraordinary number 57%. One other point he made about the employment was that once you hire someone in France, you're basically married to them for you can't fire them ever under any circumstances. It's because of the labor protections. But isn't it interesting that on the same weekend, the mayor of New York said essentially the same thing. He was asked on I think Theovans podcast, you know, what is socialism to you? And he said, it's basically the government taking care of all of the essential needs of the people and, you know, from healthcare to work to all of these

things. And so this is the model. This is what it's coming here. The left is, yeah, this is what they want, I think. And obviously we've seen in the past though, Carl, we've seen, we've seen protests in the suburbs of Paris by sort of these immigrant communities. This is not unusual over the last, I don't know, 25 or 30 years. But this one, there were 5,000 arrests in 2024. It was worse than. Yeah, I mean, but this one seems a little bit a little bit burning down schools then. That's, you know, I'll say this you guys, my father, Luke Cannon wrote a book about about Los Angeles, about it's called official negligence. It was about the Rodney King case and the riots that happened. And he, you know, got very deep into the, the machinations of the LAPD and it's universally accepted within that department. Whatever people's politics are that when you have a riot like that, you don't, you don't let it, festering, let it grow that that

just encourages. And he quoted, he interviewed my dad did some of the gang leaders who were, who were, were writing and they all, the gang leaders, the police, everybody agreed. Once the police step aside and say, this is okay, that just encourages the rioters. They, they, they get, they get the signal. And so what, what the, what the mayor of Paris said is, is, is not, is wrong. You don't want a 15 year old kid to lose his hand because he did something impetuous. But letting, letting schools burn, that tells the people burning the schools that, okay, that, that's fine. And, and I don't think, and a lot of people died in Los Angeles. And I, you know, I just, you think, you think these people running for mayors in these cities would study these things. I think the police department would know you, you expect our leaders to be a little more responsible. And that thing in Los Angeles was a systemic failure that went all the way to the top. But the police chief and the mayor weren't speaking to each other. That day, they, they had a

feud and, and it rippled down. So, you know, imagine if we had riots in LA today, Carl, how much, stronger the leadership in LA would be Karen Balson would fire the police chief. Let's say about some other international news. This is out of Brazil. Flavia Bolsonaro is the candidate. He is moving to a runoff election for the presidency. This happened Sunday night. Bolsonaro is the son of the former president who was jailed for attempting a coup during the last election. He's, but the son, so Bolsonaro won 48% of the popular vote on Sunday. He's now favored to win the runoff election, which is scheduled for October 25th. Tom Bigwin so far, at least for Donald Trump, because Bolsonaro is sort of Trump's guy, right? Yes, he is. And this will be the eighth South American country that has moved rightward in the last year and a half or two years.

Every time there's an election held there now, it's like the populace right is winning. But this case is unique because Bolsonaro very much mirrors Trump's political enemies one after him that the sort of weaponized. There was law fairer. They basically threw him in jail. And it's more than just his son. I mean, his, his wife won a Senate seat, his other son won a Senate seat. I mean, there are like three or four Bolsonaro's and they all won, which was a total repudiation of, I mean, on the other hand, you had Lula who was 80 years old and running for his fourth term. And so this was a total rebuke of the sort of previous, you know, Brazilian establishment. And it did shock, I think, a lot of people. Nobody really saw this, this wave coming and certainly not at this size. So it is, I think, a cautionary tale. Yeah. This father's under house arrest, we should just say he's actually not in jail. He's just at his house under guard for 27 years. But

Andy, I thought I just, I got a chill. I got a chill. I mean, it's we're getting into the month of Halloween. I thought, okay, so this is what Donald Trump and Eric Trump and Jared Kushner are going to do and all the Laura Trumps will never be rid of these people. I thought they're all going to run. They're going to win. The Democrats will be very, let's call democracy if that's what happens. Carl. I agree. But on my point is the Democrats should be very careful who they install as their next majority leader in the Senate, if they win the Senate, if I keep Jeffries as the Speaker of the House and who they run for president because this, this is aimed at Lula de Silva, Tom. I mean, you know, he's kind of considered a feckless left wing has been, who shouldn't have run again. So, you know, it, the parallels aren't perfect. But I just, I imagine there are some very ambitious political consultants calling Donald Trump Jr. this morning, Tom.

Wow. The production. I think it's going to be barren actually is the one that the last story of that. But this guy ran his whole family. You'll have Jared in there. Yeah. Tom, by the way, you know, if you're, if you're not following Glenn Greenwald on this stuff, he, I mean, he's, he's in Brazil. He's covering the election. He knows, he knows that. So follow him on X for, for up to date information on this. Yeah. So big issues, crime, narcoterrorism, inflation, public debt corruption. These are the sort of issues, I guess, that the, the current regime is having some issues with, I was, the two things about this struck me. One, you know, Brazil trades more with China than with the United States right now, which is kind of a shocking figure. Not for long. Yeah, not for long. Exactly. So that might be switching. But the other thing, Carl, and I know you like all this sort of voter reform stuff, voting is mandatory in Brazil. You get a fine if you don't vote.

But 21% of voters still sat out the election when you make a bet. Well, that, I saw that. And that reminded me, I'm going to find that old bumper sticker I had that Sharon would not let me put on my truck that said, don't vote. It just encourages them. I think we can use a little more non-voting in this country, to be honest with you. So Trump got very involved in this election. I can't believe you said that. Less voting. Less voting? Yeah, I think sitting out of vote, if you don't like the, you know, whose running is to me, a principled, principled action, Tom. So yeah, you were people to vote. Yeah, I'd like fewer people to vote. Wow. Wow. I'm not calling for a poll tax because I get good view of you. Yeah. So, so Tom Trump imposed this 50% tariff on Brazil last year when senior Bolsonaro was

prosecuted. He called it a witch hunt that should end immediately. Some accusations that Trump was that the State Department was more involved in this election than just encouraging voters. When you look at, I mean, you've got now until the 25th, you're going to have investigations into the election. Is there a possibility or a chance that something happens between now and then and we don't see any runoff on the 25th? No, we're going to see a runoff on the 25th. I mean, I don't subscribe to any of these election. We had Mark Ruffalo over the weekend talking about how he's had some lefty concert thing or whatever he was, and he and Robert De Niro was absolutely deranged by the way. Clip of him just foaming at the mouth. But Mark Ruffalo was like, we've got to watch Elon Musk. He's going to rig the election. It's like all of this stuff is nonsense.

I mean, obviously Brazil's different system much more corrupt than ours, but at the same time, I mean, I don't think that we're going to see anything intervening. I do think there are things that any prognos and shenanigans to, you know, well, I was just going to say, I do think, I do think we'll see Donald Trump weighing on this and probably in favor of Bolsonaro, right? And try and help him win the runoff, although he is, he's favored, as you mentioned, and I think he won 47, 48% of the vote. And in the runoff given how the other vote went, that he's going to be the heavy favorite to win the runoff. And he remembered a few a couple of weeks ago when the Ravens played in Rio and they won that amazing game against the Cobweiss. Amazing game. Yeah. Well, I was thinking, I was watching these election returns come in. So if Donald, if the Trump family gets awarded the NFL's first team in Rio, I think then we can start to think maybe there was some money under the table funneled to the populace. Wow. Well,

there's a stretch for Monday, guys. You're listening to Real clear politics on serious exam. I'm Andrew Wall with I've got time in car with me and we'll be back with more right after this. Covering the news fairly and honestly. You're listening to Real Clear Politics on the Megan Kelly channel, SiriusXM111. Welcome back to Real Clear Politics on SiriusXM. I'm Andrew Walworth. I've got Tom Bevin and Carl Cannon with me. And we have a new assistant press secretary at the White House. Her name is Benny Ray Hermany. She's 24 years old, Carl. But kind of an interesting pick. What do we know about her and what do you make of the pick? Well, she's what what did the White House say about her trusted voice for Gen Z. Yeah, she's young. She's she's she's she's most Americans if they're paying attention to this and they Google her name. What's coming up on their feed is her with an F Joe Biden t-shirt holding a rifle with a scope. So that's not the normal qualification for a

deputy White House press secretary. The other thing I would say two other things. One is it's odd to have to hire deputy press secretaries when you don't have a press secretary. So raises the question who she reports to. The other thing I would say is that there was the White House put out a statement and Anna get the attributed to Anna well Anna Kelly, whose title was given as principal deputy press secretary, which has never been a title before. But let's say she's I don't know what she is because there's no press secretary. But Anna Kelly said this told Newsweek, Beny Ray Harmony has been a trusted voice for the Megan movement as a White House correspondent. She will be outstanding addition to President Trump's communication as assistant press secretary. We look forward to having our board. There's two things about that. One is that that that's pretty Trump's having this war with these news organizations are trying to cover the White House over

the pool and everything else. But that's their idea of what a reporter should be that that's the institutional view of the press within this White House. A trusted voice of the Megan movement as a White House correspondent. It brings the mine Michael Kelly's quip. He was criticizing Sid Blumenthal who went to work for the Clinton White House after reporting for for the New Yorker. And he said that you should get you know he should get back pay. So you're not actually we're actually supposed to be independent but that's been honored in the breach in the past on the liberal side. Sometimes it's apparently being honored in the breach in the mega world this time. So I don't know that she'll be a great help to the reporter's covering the White House but Trump thinks she can he can she can represent him. Whatever she's philosophy is of the do you're right she's young and she's she's quite attractive. Yeah it's

Tom what do you make of the pack? You try to give me trouble Carl. Remedies got yourself a trouble. And say someone is attractive at these days Tom you just you just you know Trump goes around shaming people for how they look he's not going to shame her she looks great. He'll probably say something flattering about her like he did Caroline love it. Right. Who by the way is headed off to Fox News? Who's headed off to Fox News. So yeah a couple things I mean look this is this is where we are. You know we have you know Kayleigh McAnaney did the same thing and this goes back right. Imagine though if imagine if Caroline love it had Negotiating her contract with Fox while she was still speaking from the podium. Not she hadn't left and like spent a couple months you know doing whatever and then ended up being a Fox. That's what Jen Sockie did. We don't know that she didn't but I take your

point Tom. Yeah. So I mean listen and we've seen this revolving door of like you know reporters going into the White House usually it's for the press secretary job right Jay Carney from time and Tony Snow from Fox News came in and became the press secretary and then going out right. George Stephanopoulos to ABC News I mean the list is endless right. It's just this like it shows how fundamentally broken. I can see you as a little rubs. It's all just you know one big club that everybody's sort of circulating in and around and that's two big clubs now. Now it's two big clubs. Yeah well yeah. If the man club. The other thing I would say about this is is you know times have times have really changed and you know we've talked about this before and sort of journalism writ large. It used to be when you were a young reporter right you would spend you'd work at the courts and then you'd work you know

the municipal desk or whatever and you'd work your entire career to basically the pinnacle of your career would be to cover a presidential campaign right to be the the national political reporter that's you know the the boys on the bus like that kind of thing and and then eventually maybe an opinion columnist or I know if you did good on the campaign then you get to cover the White House. And somewhere along the line and this is maybe you know I don't know around Obama I would say there was this shift where they basically took a bunch of kids. Oh hell let's let's call them name let's blame Ezra Klein let's just go. No I'm not blaming Ezra Klein. I'm talking now this is a news organization but they took they took a bunch of kids and they they put a camera in their hand and they sent them out on the trail right and they were the embeds remember that. Oh yeah and they embedded people with every single campaign and so the good news was you you would see you had a lot more information about what was what was going on on the campaign trail because you could see video or you could get a report from every stop that was made along the way so if if the

candidate changed their some speech or added something or they got heckled or whatever you knew about it and that was theoretically good because you were getting more information from the campaign trail about what these candidates were saying. The downside is that these kids had literally no institutional knowledge, no historical knowledge of politics. No I mean they didn't know anything some of them you know like in the last couple like if somebody didn't even know who Bill Clinton was which just goes to show you and so it was it was more information but it was all devoid of historical context or any sort of meaning it was just you know just raw data raw information where you used to have people like David Broder and you know others that would go out and they'd go and they'd go to Iowa for five days and knock on doors. Carl used to do this go talk to voters actual voters not not view them from your desk in Washington as some sort of like zoo animal and you know so we've lost a lot we've gained some but we've lost a lot and this strikes me as another

example I mean 24 years old and her only job has been sort of fluffing for the Trump administration. I mean I don't know her I don't know from Adam she may be great and I wish her well but at the same time it's like you know it just strikes me as that's another consequence of you know we've got we've got kids basically I mean I want to add one thing to what you're saying Tom because this is a very important point and I take your point and I agree with it I will you know there were reporters look the old media that I grew up and wasn't free of bias I mean the most obvious case that I knew of the 1984 the reporters cover Mondale just loved him I mean they fell in love with Mondale and you know he carried one state and they knew he was going to lose but they just really loved the guy so there was some bias there but but the great the great Dick Harwood who worked for Washington Post he was my dad's editor at the Post the National Editor was a Marine who fought in the Pacific during the war and he was assigned to cover Bobby Kennedy and he did the same thing he

he decided he was he really believed in Bobby Kennedy not not not the current HHS secretary but his father Robert Robert of Kennedy and so he went to Ben Bradley and he said I I have to be taken off the beat because I I don't think I can be objective anymore about Bobby I mean Jack Matt you're a reporter doing that today never have ever well you know I think the one of the there two things about this story one one is this picture which is all over the internet right now it's a Christmas picture of her and she is wearing this t-shirt that says fuck Biden and she's holding a rifle with a scope she's posed next to her uncle apparently you should look at this full dress in the same t-shirt and has a rifle as well and sort of that's all we know about her really I mean other than that she is very slender by I was I think it would be charitable to say but the other thing is that because there's no press secretary this is sort of the one T-leaf we have to look at is how the White House is going to view

press coverage in the second part of the Trump administration and this is sort of the only announcement that's been made right so I mean that that's in some reason why it's news I'm and in normal Monday I don't think we'd be talking about a 24-year-old who's been given a job as deputy press secretary but these two and you point is so right and that's the one I I keep coming back to this but the Trump's view and I think it's a very I would I've made this argument myself is that he's not been given a fair shake from day one for 10 years by the establishment media by the legacy media whatever whatever you want to call it that he they never took him they barely didn't mind the hostility was open was obvious that's his view it's a view of a lot of people who voted for millions of Americans like pattyly true Carl Tom Bevan thinks it's patty so I do you well let's stick to it for me okay but the antidote to it should be honest fair

coverage not what Trump wants which is synchrophantic coverage as as as much on the other side is you know it'd be like you take MSNBC and you see them and you think oh that's the right way to approach the news they just have the wrong victims and I just I've been I've made this argument all my life to all my professional life to my conservative friends I understand your point but but what you do is you don't even it up by being biased on the other side that's not the antidote that in a long term is sustainable it may be a short term it may seem fair to you but the antidote is honest and fair journalism and and and not agenda driven journalism and this eludes Trump this is not Trump's approach and this pit sort of underscores that I don't know I I get your point but also I don't think this point I mean this job is to pick someone as a press secretary thinks it's going to defend his administration and it seems like he thinks this is a person who can do that I don't I don't think he's yeah right right so when you have

the right house officially saying she's been a real spokesperson for our meeting well in the press okay that's that's that's the mindset that we're dealing so there was an interesting clip that I saw over the weekend of David Brooks and I forget what show he was on but he was maybe it was NPR he was doing his weekly David Brooks of the Atlantic but yeah the formerly of the New York Times now with the Atlantic and he said you know well we used to be you know we get to these off the record denners from time to time and and he said you know there used to be some distance between the Democrats and the media but he's like over the last I'd say two years you know there's no distancing for two years two years how about 22 years or 42 years I mean are you saying David Brooks is Rip Van Winkle I'm saying David Brooks like it's it's it's interesting for him to sort of make that admission now which is an admission it's like the worst kept secret in Washington that the media and the Democrats are cozy but to limit it to the last two years yeah is is laughable and

shows even when he's trying to come clean even a little bit he's either being terribly dishonest about it or he has such a massive blind spot that he thinks that it's only been two years I mean look this this has been an issue for for a lot longer than two years but at least apparently David Brooks is now coming to realize yeah well other news out of the White House President Trump said on Friday he's gonna give about 20 million seniors 90 bucks each to help pay for their Medicare part B premiums this is about half I guess half but half the people on on Medicare will qualify for this so it's a it's a another another giveaway car last Thursday they started sending out these five hundred dollar checks they're going to a million Americas enrolled in the Affordable Care Act but refunds refunds this is sort of interesting I think because it's really targeted at seniors which is seniors vote right I mean so it's interesting that

he's well they go yeah to blow and to blow up the deficit even more for 90 bucks seems on odd trade-off but Andy if these checks do arrive I think you and I should I looked it up it's about the Greensfes at Queenstown Harbor in Ken Island and I think we should go play play 18 holes on the present we could even toast him if we want to you down I'm always down and I'll do that even without with that Trump's 90 bucks but um Tom seniors 22% of the voting age population but they cast about 30% of the ballots in the midterms so they're a big big midterm constituency you think that Trump will make any progress with seniors because he won them in the in the last time around he's not doing so well with seniors this turn this time he's trying to keep this serious this morning Tom but what he's really asking is

can people be bribed to vote for 90 dollars that's the question Andy's asking you I don't think any of these things are going to move the needle at all you know he's announced I don't know how many different sort of giveaways refunds bribes whatever you want to call him over the last week or two it's like he's just just throwing everything he has at the wall in order to try and gin up some some turnout I don't think it's going to work I don't you know I mean look if you're if you were voting if you're already going to vote for Trump great you get a little you know if you're if you don't like Trump is 90 dollars going to change your mind no and if you're on the fence are you going to be like oh yeah now now I'm going to go get off the couch and go vote for Trump I just don't see it it's it's it's just little stuff we understand it's it's it's it's it's it's trying to send the message that hey we understand that things are tough and we're trying to get put more money back in your pockets you can afford things but but honestly and this is the this was the argument that people were making for for you know when Trump will say well I'll get to that

eventually I'm gonna you know I'll focus on the economy next year when last year he was doing you know FIFA and all these other things it was like no it's never too early to start you know hammering that message to people that you you are getting up every day and focused on their behalf because now these just look like you know sort of pointless gimmicks well we haven't seen the letter that accompanies the ninety dollar check uh Andy it may just it may say you know Trump may just be brazen about he said all right you don't be an in grateful puts go vote for go vote for republicans now it might say that it's it's it's it's the time the possible that there will be a letter that will go along with these checks but they've got to get about pretty quick because it's what 20 20 going on man yeah voting is already started um we do know a little bit more about the president's travel schedule uh he's gonna hit 10 states between now the election he's gonna go to Michigan North Carolina Georgia but uh Texas Iowa Alaska Ohio and Kansas are also uh Kansas makes sense so there's a lot Georgia brass is on the list

too yeah yeah a republican friend of mine a guy who worked in the White House call man he was just indignant when he saw Trump was going to Georgia he said we we'd we'd already have two senators there except for him when he when he when he went in 2020 when he his pitch was to people voting is rigged it's all stacked against you don't bother oh and by the way we have a runoff so you know maybe you should vote and we lost two winnable seats that's what my friend said is a republican uh and now he's going there in this and and that's not even a competitive race and he also um I can't repeat what he said because it would even make making Kelly blush the language but he he was talking about all the money they've wasted in North Carolina um and then he said did you notice that John what we can talk about this the last thing man he talked about John Thune is since seven million dollars to Kansas since about time but Trump's going to Kansas so maybe he can maybe he's uh time he's also going to Montana and Pennsylvania uh I guess to try to short

house races there as well right yeah I mean he's he's mostly in red territory territory that Republicans you know shouldn't have to be defending um but but they are and they're trying to make sure that that these red deep some of them deeply red states stay red and and he can stand the time I mean it's tricky because he doesn't want to go to you know really swinging districts where he's going to motivate you know he might motivate some some Republicans to turn out but he's probably also going to you know disproportionately motivate Democrats and independents who are sour on him to turn out and have a negative effect so um he's doing what he can where he can but again it's it's not totally clear I mean in some of these red states where Republicans outnumber of Democrats registered voters by you know 500,000 or a million or whatever you just got to get Republicans to the polls that's all you know and so he'll probably be helpful in that in some of those instances and

maybe a little save some of these Senate candidates from getting washed away in a blue wave yeah all right well guys we're gonna take a break you're listening to Ritlera politics on Sirius XM I'm Andrew Wallworth I've got Tom and Carl with me and we'll be back with more right after these words don't go away online at realclearpolitics.com on air on Sirius XM channel 111 it's real clear politics on the Megan Kelly channel Pennsylvania the fifth largest state and the biggest swing state in the nation is under attack by national progressive billionaires and millionaires why because as Pennsylvania goes so goes the nation that's what Matt Breet explains in his new book you got a win Pennsylvania called entrepreneurs to save America why entrepreneurs well just look at America's history entrepreneurs founded this great nation these were innovators banding together to launch an unprecedented experiment in liberty and self-government now 250 years later this same

entrepreneurial vision is what will save America and in you got a win Pennsylvania Matt explains how Pennsylvania is ground zero in the fight for America but he doesn't just give the problem he gives the solution and that's you you can be part of what entrepreneurs in Pennsylvania are already doing to win Pennsylvania and save America check out you got a win pa.com to learn more and get a copy of this eye opening book on how the future of freedom and prosperity in America runs through Pennsylvania that you got a win pa.com oh look you just got added to a meeting about coordinating another meeting to prepare for the pre-meeting ahead of the follow-up meeting which will of course require a recap meeting and then another meeting it's your booking point book with Southwest

and an error plane mode. informed viewpoints spanning the ideological spectrum you're listening to real clear politics on the Megan Kelly channel serious xm 111 welcome back to real clear politics on serious xm i'm Andrew all worth that for a corollon time with me and supreme court justice Samuel Alito was on Fox this weekend he talked about the future of the court which starts its fall session today here he is talking to Sharon Shannon Breene on Sunday listen to this there has been a concerted effort to intimidate the court and justices on the court try to influence us to decide cases differently from the way in which we have been deciding them and i am concerned about the future of the court i think it's an important institution it has not always done the right thing but i think on the whole it has been

fundamental in protecting our constitutional structure and the rights that all americans enjoy so he's worried about the institution he's got some good reason the americans trust in the supreme court is at a historical low it's a 34% approved of the court right now 46% trust it carl also he's 76 and there's some speculation from that interview another interview he gave for cb to cbs that he's at least considering retiring sometime in the not too distant future although he would be in doing a couple of weeks though because they're they may lose the senate right look sam lido is is simply is certainly right about this and i don't think there's any question you know you and you have and it's not always as a grotesque is when Chuck Schumer stands in the steps of the thing you know overtly directly threatened as the court uh Barack Obama when he's president tried

to intimidate this justices you have you know Hillary Clinton and common currency people going around openly talking about packing the court because they lose some decisions it's become so partisan things become so partisan-washing democrats they they go attack the court when they when they lose a case but when they win a course they they never go back and give the court credit so nobody's ever praising the court and the republic is certain in a conservative on the conservative side when john robert's cast their signing vote wrote that imagined of opinion defending obama care you know movement conservatives attacked him but nobody ever defends him trump has now attacked these justices who he appointed and he's he said directly you know that they showed little loyalty to him like he appointed then he's supposed to the side cases their way and it seems to me like the two political parties have completely lost the plot on what the court is supposed to be i i talked about how they don't understand what the press is supposed to be this is something that's even it's less excusable

they they they go around diminishing the court criticizing the court, personalizing the court indulging in these fantasies about the court and then and then people wonder why the court isn't respected and i think that john robert's is done everything he can to try and defend the institution and he doesn't he doesn't always get help even from his own guys even from sam lia who sometimes writes these opinions that the little more harsh language in need be let's just say a little tougher than they need to be the the court goes further sometimes on deciding these cases then robert wants it to he wants it to you know he's a he's a small sea conservative and he's not he's not winning the he's not winning the battle dumb yeah i mean i don't know if i agree with that last bit up to that point you're doing great carl that was right with you i think it's it's indisputable that the the the attacks on the court which again mostly from the democrats and the left over the last few years right if you look at those numbers that you just cited and you look at the partisan

composition of them democrats trust in the court has plummeted why does that happen because democrats keep attacking the court and they keep calling it you know a rogue court a corrupt court ill legitimate court ill legitimate court i mean they just non stop bash to carls point even when they get opinions that they agree with it doesn't seem to stop them from continuing to just denigrate this institution and clearly the first thing that they want to do when they have sufficient power to do so is going to be to add four justices to this court and make them all packet with with liberals and they they make no bones about that and so i think i think that will really erode the faith in the court because then it will just be another it'll be they'll do what they did in peach man just be another perk of be like the spoil system of the election and that's no no serious constitution scholars ever thought that's what this court should be and yet to you know to win some of these temporary battles that's what democrats are willing to do

i think it's i i don't want to over you i don't want to sound unhinged you but i think it's unpatriotic i think it's really destructive of the country what they're talking about doing at the court yeah the case that they are starting to consider today is this interesting case it's bold or Colorado uh... suing two oil companies big big oil companies ex-unmobile and son core energy us a uh... and i guess the case turns on that the city in the county who are assuming it um say the companies owe them money for damages from climate change uh that the uh companies uh have caused not in their district but just just the whole damn thing as my mom always says um and uh that somehow they should be held liable for damages within the jurisdiction i've read about this a couple year a year and a half ago for us and in that i but this is uh you know politics is war by other

means this is legislating by other means this they want it's attacks they want is they want to set energy policy um that these are democrats and there's like 15 states doing this three other cities Honolulu is doing it this is the first one to reach the court but it wasn't even the first case uh bio that's the one that they're they're choosing but but these city these these these these jurisdictions if you think about what they're doing they're suing the oil companies for selling oil now boulder you know buys oil from these oil companies for its police cars and it's fired bartman and he you know these jurisdictions are suing all purchase this product because it's the only product that would keep us warm at night and and these are legal they're treating them like they're drug dealers and they these lawyers who've done this robb monton california turned general's one of the leaders of it they're sort of upfront about their goal they it's a carbon tax yes but also they took their but they also want to line their own pockets they they brought in private firms that are going to get billions of dollars hopefully and they've

patterned after the tobacco lawsuits and in the case of tobacco companies they were also selling illegal product but the tort was that they had they had lied about its effects that they knew it was a carcinogen carcinogen that they knew it caused strokes and hurt attacks that and they covered out and they funded fake research and so they were complicit that was the that was the argument in this case it's a little you know everybody knows that you you know you're burning a oil it causes smog we've known that for 60 or 70 years so that that was never a thing so this is this is a stretch on a lot of different levels we also have a piece by nrdc the national resources defense council who guys in support about because they say you know it's the only way to to address the problem maybe it is the only way to address the problem but it's not you talk Tom brought up my good my googoo I was being puckish about not voting but this is if you care about a good governance this isn't the right way to go you should have a national energy policy and you should just let

cities sue multinational companies for selling a product that we all need one of the wrinkles on this though Tom is that Sam Alito we were just talking about has recused himself from this case leaving eight judges to decide it the judges don't have to say why they were accused themselves but one theory at least was that somehow he owns stock in an energy company and that means that he has to recuse himself but conservatives are a little bit worried about this because now it's an eight to eight decision not to assumption was that Alito would be at four to four I know why are they worried why are they worried getting back to Carl's early point because the three liberal justices on the court are so reliable they don't even it's like I don't want to say the law doesn't matter but they are so reliable in coming down on on the side of sort of the progressive you know forces here I mean look this lawsuit is freaking nuts I mean it is

the idea that you know Boulder Colorado can can sue these companies and get damages to Carl said and set national energy policy right it's you know Bill Barr wrote a piece in the Wall Street Journal it has it there's a foreign policy component to this there's a national security component to this moreover if if they're really upset about you know that and they want restitution from from these companies there's I mean climate changes is it's a global thing right and the worst perpetrators of are not the United States but China and some of these other countries like India so it's it's it's just an absurd idea and I will say I hope I hope that the court like smacks this down and and knocks this off the and and basically ends this this avenue that these these climate folks have been trying this is like as Carl mentioned there are tons of lawsuits that are in this vein that are

basically on pause waiting for the court to decide and hopefully the court shuts us down and puts an end to this silliness yeah we just got a couple of minutes left let's stay on a little for a second Carl there you know there's an interview that's going to run tonight on CBS where he talks about retirement and CBS is sort of you know pumping this interview up I listen to the bite you know what he's saying is that you know boy anyone who's 76 year old yeah you don't know what's going to happen in year two you know of course you're thinking about you know whether or not you should retire he doesn't sort of go any further than that but at this point with you look at where the Senate is going two more years of Trump Republicans I guess would really like or a lot of Republicans would like him to avoid the Ginsburg trap and retire before Trump is out right or who's better Ginsburg was this heroin everybody left left left her right up until she she stayed too long she she died or she went to a Republican now the excoriator yeah leader doesn't want that to

happen to him I wouldn't think on the on the other hand he clearly loves the job yeah but if he's but look if he's gonna if he's gonna pull that thing he may not happen as much time as we think we don't we didn't get to the Senate polls uh maybe we should let's do it tomorrow but yeah we'll talk about the Senate polls tomorrow by now I mean this the Senate could go to Republican and then I mean excuse me if you go Democrat and then it wouldn't matter if he was if he retired or not yeah all right well guys we don't have to leave it there you're listening to real clear politics on serious like Sam I'm Andrew Allworth half of Tom Carl everyone in here we'll see you back here tomorrow have a great day bold no BS news this is the Megan Kelly channel serious SM 111 oh look you just got added to a meeting about coordinating another meeting to prepare for the pre-meeting ahead of the follow-up meeting which will of course require a recap meeting

and then another meeting it's your booking point book with Southwest and an airplane mode
