For all your turf grass needs and solutions, make sure you talk to the experts at PGG Rights and Turf. New Zealand's industry leading specialists call 0800PGWTurfToday for all your turf grass needs and solutions. Welcome to plenty of times before. To talk to the boss of TRK, Sue David Ellis. Congratulations to David Ellis. Are you on the radio with us for the first time as Sue David? Yes, probably I am Michael. That's the last time I'm ever going to call you Sue David and you're a tie-off. You can get it up off your knee now. Tell me what was it like. Talk to us about yesterday. Your investiture was in Auckland. I know some people have this in Wellington. So I think you're allowed to take five or six family members with you. Tell us what the experience was like from when you started putting the collar on tie on on the morning to when they don't know this but I presume they tap your either shoulder.

It's the most humbling experience that you could ever have in your life. I got up yesterday morning and had a bit of a task at quarter past nine. I was allowed to take five people. I had the choice of going to Wellington. I got my asked Queen's owner. I went to Wellington. This time I thought I'd go to Government House in Auckland. It was really a very humbling experience. One that there's so many people involved in that have helped me over the years. So David? So many people that have... What do they actually do? So I presume you're sitting in a room and then they call you forward. And obviously we've all seen movies where they get the sword and tap your either shoulder and say, arise, sir David. But is that actually anything what it's like in reality?

It is for a knife hood. You stand up and somebody reads out what the knife hoods for. And then the Governor General asks you to come forward and you have to kneel down. And then she, uh, a first-lea knife, she, I guess you'd call it. And then you have a chat to her for about two minutes. And then you go back to the table. Once the ceremony is over and you'd be there with your wife, Lady Karen and some of your family members, what happened next? What was the emotion like once that moment had happened and then you were able to share it with the people you love? Well, we left the Government House at 11.30 and went to a nice restaurant with 14 friends for lunch.

And we had a big celebration and it was a super afternoon and one that I was just so proud of because there's a lot of people that... It's in my name, but it's really for a lot of other people too like Karen has been quite incredible for 22 years. What she's done helping me personally, helping you with the business, helping me with the farm. And then there's people like Mark Walker who has worked since the day left school 35 years ago. And Sam Burgesson, Reese Trumpa, Hunter Durant, these people, Tom Murphy, my racing manager, I can't do it without them. And then on the farm I've got the best team that you could have in Luke Copeland, and Mick Morrison, who run the sheep and cattle.

And then Dean Locke that looks after the horses. So I've got a big team and the son is for those of the team. And also for the owners that have supported me and have been part of the Tiacca family for so long. All right, so how do you see this is an interesting one. The protocols of this heading forward because for example, if I'm doing a gig for New Zealand Bloodstock and I'm interviewing Sir Peter Valor on it, I will call him Sir Peter Valor. But I won't call him that when I'm talking to him normally, I call him Peter, same with Brendan. Lindsay, I'll call him Big B, but if I'm talking to him on television, I'll call him Sir Brendan. So who calls you what? I presume Mark Walker doesn't call you Sir David, does the staff call you Sir David? Do you need a sign, leader, Sir David? What's the, when do you you sir and when doesn't, you're not you sir? I, I, most people call me David and all D.C. My initials and really I'm happy whatever they want, whatever makes them feel comfortable suits me.

A couple of years ago, because we're talking to David Ellis, who is the, the man who started and is the boss of Tiacca racing, the biggest racing business in the country. A couple of years ago, you had a few incidents with your health and you were talking about slowing down, but there doesn't seem to be any slowing down the numbers of horses at Tiacca are purchasing or racing. So where's Tiacca at the moment? Because you have mentioned the fact that you can't potentially do this forever, but you don't seem to be that interested in shrinking the business. No, at this stage with people like Kevin, Reese and Sam involved in the training and Laura McNabb running the office so well. I just want to keep going and so that they get a really good chance in life to have a big involvement and that's what gives me the thrill is seeing young people do well and also see the thrill that others get winning these races.

That's a big part of it too. So yes, I was in hospital, it was a month ago, but I've had a complete clean bill of health, all the treatment I've had so first and the doctors couldn't be happy with me. When you had an operation like you had last year, one of the things the doctors tell you is that for those who don't understand, renal operations, which are kidneys, obviously, is that you're not supposed to smoke now need you to tell the truth. Just between us. Did you light up a cigar yesterday? Yes, I did. Okay, I thought you might be allowed to have an occasional cigar. Because as I tell people, it's the only proven formula for controlling our cemars. Not entirely sure that's true, but never mind. Take this for people who don't know David because obviously sport notion is basically a sport base show we have a bit of racing on it.

This gives us an idea of the scale. So Tiago have a basin, Christchurch have a base in Mutamata and they have a farm, obviously, which you own and they have stables and cramble between all those facilities between brood mere jealings, race horses, the whole lot. How many horses would be on the books for Tiago? Well, we've got 100 in work in Mutamata, 24 in work at Christchurch, 45 in work in cramble and we'd have hundreds belling or brood mares or foals at the farm. Okay, so well over 250 horses on the books, what's your best chance for tangerine or in someone else's colors who races horses with mark and cem of training or winner in the next week or two, David, because as much as we are thrilled for your investor, and all we have done for New Zealand Racing being recognized, we still like a winner. So what's one you can tip us out for the sport nationlessness?

Well, we've got a fully called Aventage here, who's out of Aventage, who you'll remember, and she's taken a bit longer than I thought to really show something. It's one who lasts two or three, but the way she trawled the other day with open on, I can see her winning very quickly. And we've got a really nice two-row by Spurder Boom called San Arty, that won a trial recently. He looks like a great caracan million horse, and we've got a pinnacle of coat that we think is very, very good, and there's a couple of years left in him.

Okay, look, David, it's Sue David. It's great to see you recognize that not only putting so much enjoyment into people's lives, Tiark has been a huge employer of Kiwis and some Australians along the way. It's put money in people's pockets, which have put people's kids through school, and all those sort of things that big businesses do. So congratulations on yesterday to you and to Lady Karen, to everybody involved. Ricardo, so often we have many sewers on the show. No, I was just going to ask you have to now, you know, start looking at sprinters and distance and start looking at jousting horses. Is that the next thing you're going to do? It looks like a different sort of night. Oh, I can't. So Ricardo watches a lot of movies, David. Congratulations on yesterday. I'm sure the last thing they're doing this morning was some radio, because I'm sure there's a few deets in the brain after yesterday's activities that the 14% lunch. But congratulations on behalf of everybody here. All of us here, mate. It's a hell of an achievement.

And I'm very glad to hear you're going to be tracking on. And these are 250 new horses that we have in the play. So please pass on that congratulations to Lady Karen. Thank you very much.
