What's up we're back welcome to another episode of robot I'm Brad Greenberg that's Mike Rodack we're recording this on our regularly scheduled Tuesday morning kind of putting a final bow on Alabama's 50 to 36 win over Florida state couple weathered the lighting delays we're half time we talked about that in a recap show on Saturday night as always we heard from head coach calendar board and book coordinators Kane Walmick and Ryan Grove on Monday. I
know sometimes we joke about how not a lot is said on those Monday press conferences but I think both coordinators in their own right had some stuff that you know we were quickly texting each other hey we're gonna get up on the site. Kale and the board also had some news as far as the roster goes which will kind of will start there first up the top Chris Booker former four star offense alignment Atlanta Georgia freshman is I get the wording exactly right now not with the team I think I don't I wouldn't look too far into the right now thing I would say I'll look more with he's not a part of our team and I quote him an hour as an out they have a team I know a lot of people in our board were asking for you know the real story there what's going on I think you put it perfectly without you know got to go too far into it but it's important to note the timing of the fine of coach cap and then hiring a majoring
claim and I was a big talking point what I think we had on podcasts and off air as well like if you're gonna do it is it smarter to do that before the transfer portal but obviously that didn't happen Adrian Clem comes in after they get an all their freshman and then all their six transport guys so it's important to note that a lot of those guys or all of them weren't exactly you know I guess Adrian Clem selections if that's right the entire offensive line isn't I mean you see they kept here until the end of January and by then the the portal was done and you know your freshman had already signed in December so I don't know it was always interesting to see kind of how long they waited to make the move with Chris Kapilovich to fire him that was I want to say the third week of January enough to check the exact date but he was the one cap was that was hosting those transfer portal guys and obviously he was the one who
had recruited you know this current freshman class as well so I guess there's one school of thinking that you know if you wait until the portal closes then if you change offensive line coaches then nobody can leave and I kind of set at the time like it's kind of weird to hold guys hostage like that like to bait and switch it's kind of it's kind of strange if if that's the the thinking but you know there's the other side of it that you know why not have Adrian Clem getting there earlier if that was the guy that you're looking at or thinking about and you know kind of have him look at some of these guys out of the portal so kind of where things are right now I mean you've had nine months now Adrian Clem seeing these guys up close on the field off the field in getting a field for you know are they ready to play at this level and he's been they had hasn't been a coach he's been an offensive line coach in the NFL he's been the offensive line coach at you know pretty high-level programs like Oregon
and then Alabama and I think he he has a good sense of who's able to play and who's able to not play at a high level like this so and kind of what it takes you know behind the scenes for a guy to do that so you know I think you'll see certain moves made and you know whether it's during the season or after the season I think it's you know a coach putting his mark on the room and you know the of the portal guys you know I think you're obviously feeling decently well about race and delgady and jayv and james right now we were starting again as we talked about on the post game show there's certainly tougher tests coming you know for the LB in the offense and then for the offensive line you know and the other portal guys I think you know there's certainly some long-term question marks with guys like tai heywood and katon straighthorn and eastern fields maybe and you know we'll see what happens with Nick Brooks as well he was he was more competitive during campouts in terms of pushing for a
starting role and then you know of your freshman too there's you know there's guys that you kind of get your eyes on and you know you figure out what they can do and you know that's that's kind of where I think it's at and I'm sure you know there's gonna be more more movement in the portal you know it's not as we know the super strong recruiting class you know freshman coming in this is not one that they were prioritized 37th in the country right now but we how kind of how the offensive line is built I think is is the bottom line and I think you can kind of point to a coaching change in the room as being in a important moment there yeah I'm just looking at it just to we don't need to all it too far but so the transfer portal was January 2nd to January 16th a week later Alabama fires coach cap so that's January 23rd and then it was until February 5th until age of climb comes in so as a little bit I guess longer than
I expected I thought it was a little bit it was gonna happen sooner or it didn't happen sooner after coach cap that fire but that wasn't the case but again it goes back to what we said that kind of that discussion are you gonna keep the guys in the rooms they can't leave type of things but anyway moving along there I think you some perfectly it also just with you know what Clem has seen from these guys over the last nine months and I would expect more movement maybe even during the season as this season rolls on and in the portal like you said couple injury updates calendar board was asked about that on Monday I'll give you the lead here yeah I mean it's it's a team that's getting healthier that's kind of yeah there is that string of injuries in the middle to late part of August that you know people were like oh what's happening here and even with playing in games you know they've they've gone out of games pretty healthy that includes kind of the I don't use words scared like people saw E.J. Carl on
TV and people have been asking me about it like going into the tent and what's to deal with E.J. Carl and from what came in more said Monday he'll be good to go didn't specify exactly what was the reasoning behind all that apparently Daniel Hill didn't finish the game either I don't know if he wanted to the tent or not I don't know if that was just related to kind of where the game was at at that point but he's also fine and then you have you know the two guys who just it seemed like they keep getting close and close and close AKD and Noah Rogers who it's been several games now that AKD are as dressed and gone through warmups and this was one where he stayed in uniform for the game this Florida State game as did Noah Rogers who also traveled to Kentucky two weeks ago dressed went through warmups was ruled out he dressed went through warmups was in uniform but didn't play but with Florida State game so from what Kaling to Moore said both of those guys are available but as the Moore also said you have players at a high level at both of those
positions are running back in receiver so I think it still leads to the question of how much both of those players will play if they do see the field Saturday night and I'm sure there will be at least a small level participation like I don't think will be zero snaps but will it be a lot more than zero is the question I think particularly with deer in the running back room because where are those snaps coming from you know you've already kind of eliminated Kevin Riley from that rotation he did not get any snaps got zero snaps zero carries against Florida State so you're down to three you know with that game between Hill, Trashon Brown and E.J. Croyale is there room for a fourth? there's not room for a fourth and you're still going with three but one of those is deer who are you eliminating? I don't think you're eliminating E.J. Croyale or Trashon Brown right now so I just I think it's going to be a small amount for deer and might be a carry here a carry there depends on how the game goes but I don't think it's a huge role and you know even with no roger as I think
had he not been injured on a day I think he was in line to be one of your top through the receivers I think Rico Scott kind of took over that opportunity once it was given to him and I don't know if you're taking Rico Scott off right now like he's he's getting your second most snaps at receiver he's blocking well yet a touchdown catcher against Kentucky I mean it's been a little bit different story every game at receiver you know lots of your Brooks obviously was kind of this past game you had Ryan Coleman Williams in the first game yeah I would expect Rogers to be one of your top five I just don't know how much that means in terms of like snaps because even Derek Meadows was one of your top five receivers in this past game and played very little sedary Morgan played one snap cut one touchdown but played one snap so you know how much is wide receiver four five and six playing right now especially given as you wrote today you're playing a lot of two tight ends dilemmas 19th in the country right now in playing two or more tight ends in
the field which I think is 46% of the time which is a higher number than what they've done these past couple years even higher number than what they did at Washington with this staff so that's kind of part of their philosophy right now it's working in terms of you know the running game for the most part and that obviously limits opportunities to have another wide receiver on the field so I don't know if there's going to be a huge role for Rogers or deer once they're back cruel and in hill we find and as far as the other injury update I guess it was Kate and Jones who's been out the linebacker who we thought you know in the spring and beginning of fall camp that he had a chance to earn a starting role at linebacker he was kind of in that mix with cubic rease and then Luke match just took off like a freight train and earned a starting role and then Kate and Jones I think the last time he saw him on the field was the last open practice that we could watch which was like the third week of August and then he didn't play or wasn't in uniform for the first three games of the season and so we finally asked about it on Monday and Caitlin Moore said oh yeah he's
out for the season so that's it's not a new injury but it's one that is new to us in terms of knowledge so he adds I guess that's two two guys now on defense that are for the year between him and in Jeremiah Beaman but other than that you know the injury report's going to come out on Wednesday night in terms of guys who are injured right now it's in terms of guys who aren't out for the season the only two guys I can think of are the two corners Jordan Edmonds and Nick Sherman so those right now would be the only two players I'm watching unless there's something new that crops up during the week here yeah I think you kind of nailed everything there no no so there was a minty and oh yes on Saturday as well I don't know if anyone asked about him on Monday I don't know I don't have any information there luckily luckily we have Caitlin Moore and SEC telecom for so thank you for reminding me about Zaymency maybe I'll ask him tomorrow on on Wednesday's telecom
conference which is now every three weeks this season instead of right week by like similarly similarly to AK dear Noah Rogers like how much was Zaymency even playing in the first place like obviously you want to know what's going on with him but it's also like is that a huge deal if he's not ready able to go you know whatever everybody plays on defense that is fair that is fair we'll get into that in a minute but yes I think he is he was part of rotation who's actually I think one of those first two games he played more snaps than I've been Taylor if not both I'd have to double check numbers on that but I would I would still call him your third safety you know I I think I've been Taylor is playing a big role but if I had to rank them in terms of playing time and hierarchy if you want to call it out still put Nancy above Taylor right now but you know it's it's a very close very close call there yeah and then back to AK dear Noah Rogers again you nailed it all there but it's not like this team is like
dying for both to come back to like making it like again two things can be true it wants that I wrote about the running back room after the first game I have a story up on the Y receiver rotations kind of noting you know how it could all shake out as Noah Rogers comes back and then you have the two tight endsets and things like that it's not like it's not like the running backs aren't producing so much that you have to get a career back they're actually playing pretty well they're having good rushing numbers later in the games albeit it's that it starts slow and then same for the Y receivers yes like you mentioned it's kind of look different every single game but Rico Scott was a guy that Alabama fans were pretty excited about he gets that opportunity last year does it really take advantage of it seems like he has taken that next step he's played a hole on his snaps I think he led the game led the team receivers and snaps in the in the opening game against East Carolina you're not going to take right call the Williams off the field so it's like when Noah Rogers comes back are you taking away from lots of your Brooks I don't know if you are like you mentioned there then you pair in
two tight ends maybe even three coming on the field oh my nearly we'll call it half of the plays 46% like you mentioned so it's interesting there to see how that's all going to shake out and then you also have Derek Meadows and Cedarian Morgan who was Cedarian Morgan one catch one touchdown in the win again on Saturday over four to state but those guys I mean that was the least amount of snaps they played in the first three games like I think Derek Meadows and I have pulled up right here I think he played three snaps and then Cedarian Morgan only had one so compared to Coleman Williams with 62 Rico Scott with 60 Brooks with 39 so I guess if you're looking at some sort of trend lots of your Brooks is the guy that hasn't played as many snaps as Ryan Coleman Williams and Rico Scott so does that mean Noah Rogers takes over his division I don't know like again I don't think lots of your Brooks has given you any reason to keep him off the field or have no riders completely jump him there's also the added factor of what does Noah Rogers look like after his injury as he gonna be a full full go dissatternate I don't really think so either
is it gonna be more of a slow ramp up so it's all interested it's gonna be interesting to see how those snaps kind of break out over the next couple weeks and you know in October into that tough slate with Georgia LSU Tennessee Tech Stain I'm gonna get a half full story up on Bavid 247 discussing that Mike and it's interesting too like some of this playing time stuff and all that it's different now because there are no red shirts and in a previous euro of college football ending last year you could say well you don't have to place it anymore you don't need them like you can just red shirt him like he'll appear in four games and that's it now that's not a thing anymore like there's no more red shirts so there's no this this whole thing about only playing a guy in four games to preserve a red shirt doesn't exist anymore and obviously you're paying guys too you're paying no Rogers to come out of the portal and you know come from NC State you're you're paying a guy looks there in Morgan to come to Alabama is a pretty highly rated recruit so there's a lot of uh
kind of I don't know what the right word is just a lot of different things hitting at once in terms of like you're paying Ryan Coleman Williams or paying this guy you're paying this guy this guy wants to get on the field there's eligibility like every player is using a year of eligibility whether he's hurt whether he's not playing whether no matter what a player is using a year of eligibility right now and so it's gonna be interesting to see this is the first year of that just kind of how that works long-term with players and their um like how they approach things you know and what their agents think and what happens after the season too like it's just it's different um it's it's new and it we have a player who's using a year of eligibility but not playing does he get frustrated with that if you have a player who's hurt and he's not really getting on the field you know and he's using your year of eligibility doesn't get a medical red shirt you know how does he treat that so it's it's a very new part of college football that I'm kind of interested to see
how things how things work because it's it's all new this year yeah 100 percent again aka dear nor Rogers team available kid and Jones out Chris Booker no longer with the team you could read more of all that on bambi two words that we also give you our full thoughts there moving along and I'll stick with the offense we had some boobards I told the guys I said shoot shoot guys if you would have quit as fast as some of your fans shit we wouldn't have won the game uh I think I texted you immediately and you said I'm writing up right now I think probably everybody in that press room was writing that up really quickly or talking to their co-workers who weren't maybe didn't be able to make the press conference um Ryan grubb as we've talked about on the show plenty of times to talk about off-air says what he thinks he uh he said that last night in his statement right and that's what I was going to say um thoughts and then Mike you said right there like he a couple hours later he puts out a statement on his ex account basically
apologizing it didn't come out the way he wanted it to um I'm not kid I am not Ryan grubb not putting words as mouth but I think it why did come out the way he intended it to but I'll give you you the floor here yeah my initial impression was he was kind of waiting on where to drop that he dropped it just like you know the beginning of or sorry the end of spring practice last year when there was questions about the starting quarterback and he kind of waited till the end of an answer and said oh yeah like if the season started to die ties our quarterback and it was like it was planned it was premeditated it was like what time do I want to drop this this this track and uh I think that was probably the case yesterday as well I think he you know he just put 50 points up you know probably wanted to um yeah take a little bit victory lap it's like hey you guys were doing as early in the game and we scored on nine possessions in a row and he kind of he said like would have been nice to get 12 in a row it would it seemed a little bit sarcastic to me uh yeah
uh but yeah that's look I think that's that's his personality and I told him I told him on the podcast I said take the night off on Saturday night when we did our podcast I said Ryan grubb take the light off because people aren't gonna be on his back well guess what come Tuesday people are on his back uh so that was probably a little bit of a self-inflicted wound and uh you know probably good thing for Kane Walmick that it was a bad game for the defense and everybody's not gonna bring it up for a data uh but that's just how it goes and uh look I I don't know like it's not the same thing as archmaning archmaning I thought made a dumb comment about holly row um but now like people are talking about archmaning's like a robot and I hope like he was right I hope this doesn't turn Ryan grubb into a robot because for our purposes in the media we want people to be honest do you want people to tell the truth like that's that's our objective but I understand the objective of people within the building of fans can be different
and people are saying this is why Sabin didn't let assistance tops the media etc etc like there's different competing objectives here and I'm not gonna cross-ry and grubb for for telling the truth but I can certainly understand or the truth as as he saw it but I can certainly understand how and why people could get upset about that and you know I don't know you said your fans and people are taking offense to that not being our fans like I don't know if that was of an intentional usage of that word I think it was probably just the vernacular that was used in that particular moment but um you know because he was also retelling a story of what he told players but I don't know like it's a kind of weird distraction in the middle of the week um it's self-inflicted but I don't think it's like I don't think it's a huge deal I think there's certain you know there's people already that you can see like you know need to apologize like fans shouldn't have been doing it I think it does
bring up an interesting debate it was a debate that people had last year when conor talti got booed on his home field um happy mr kick and there was debates about that whether it was about him missing the kick it was a short kick against Eastern Illinois or whether it was him yelling at his long snap for the week before against Oklahoma but what exactly people were booing at um and you know he took that to heart and it affected him that's what he's talked about in his interviews and I guess he's used that now as is kind of fuel and he's been very good ever since um so maybe grub you know uses the booze and um he's been very good ever since I don't know we'll see what happens but uh I will say it is interesting that his contract expires after the season he has not yet gotten a contract extension that has been presented to the board of trustees that is his public maybe he has behind the scenes it hasn't been approved yet I don't know um but as of right now the known contract for Ryan grub expires after the season and there's obviously um you know fan angst around
him even before this uh that was kind of what led to the booze and at the same time he goes way way back with Kaylen de Boer so kind of what the long term implications are kind of what the long term future of Ryan grub is is an interesting question to me um and you know I think obviously these next nine regular season games are going to play a pretty big role and kind of where things go from here yeah kind of for some I'd one thing I do know if they go three and out to start the game of South Carolina uh he will he will hear it and but whether that statement came out or not or whether he said that or not there there's going to be a certain entity about that fans that are consistently booing I think you know we had talked about it too like there's that angst against Ryan grub naturally and maybe he fueled the fire a little bit here but again I don't I don't want to look too far into it I don't want to look too far into whether he should make an apology or not whether whether anyway moving on we had that to start Monday morning we had Ryan grub next up was
canwamick and then kale d'abour which we talked about we'll get we'll go to the defense side of all canwamick um you called it uh walking out of that stadium that canwamick was gonna basically shit all over himself this has never happened before five players 26 cases each one million dollars on the line for every player on September 25th Yamavar resort and casino at Sandman well makes history with deal or no deal live hosted by me howie mandel plane September for your chance to take the stage at Yamavar theater and answer the ultimate question deal or no deal details at Yamavar.com must be 21 please gamble responsibly set himself on fire right um which I respect to certain degree he called Alabama's past defense gun for the work for the state the worst he's seen since during the program so in the last two and a quarter seasons uh if you will uh comes
from title out you know 471 total yards nine plays of 20 or more he called those nine explosive plays if you will uh they convert on eight of fifteen third downs five touchdowns during all five trips in the red zone um yeah it was it was a bad day I mean I don't know how much more we can harp on that but I think it was interesting that you know he still felt like they did some good things whether that was containing an asian Daniels which I bring up just because uh you're playing another dynamic quarterback in the North sellers uh it's up on Saturday I have a story that'll come out on Tuesday afternoon kind of diving into the North sellers and what he's been able to do and not have been able to do against the South haven defense over the last two matchups but and then also and it seemed like there was a common theme in k-womics responses and with red Morgan that you got on Saturday like it's just guys not doing their jobs there wasn't necessarily a scheme issue it was just guys you know the bus of plays came from one guy not communicating with another than
it kind of sets off your you know your whole defense not doing your one eleventh if you will as yachts APR uh brings up very regularly uh I'm kind of just talking here I don't know if I exactly have a question but I don't know it was just one of those things where he took full accountability but again you're going to be playing some far better offences as the season goes on right yeah it's um you know canes always been very uh self-critical is the right word like even when I have a great game he comes out and says like here's the two or three things that we didn't do very well and I think he understands kind of the uh the mindset of the fan base too because it's kind of what they're used to understatement um the net picking is good uh so you know obviously he was going to come out after a game like this and and talk about how they're a pissed and it was unacceptable and etc etc um you know it's uh to me it's a little bit concerning just kind of the trend right now um and it goes back to even the Indiana game so these past four games at
Alabama's played they've given up 21 plays of 20 yards or more uh if you go back to the Indiana game which they gave up seven plays of 20 yards or more and then um these first three games they've given up 14 which included nine against Florida State um sorry to cut you off what it and Georgia and Auburn gave you back the last season as well Auburn I think had one or two explicit plays and a Georgia I don't Georgia had maybe one I don't I don't I care remember but I know Auburn did also as well just kind of moving it back to there's been a little bit of bigger of a sample size if you will yeah basically you're your your thoughts there because I know Auburn did for a fact I try to remember that Georgia game I don't know if they so much had its closest rather than just kind of moving the ball down fill out will Auburn had three last year um Georgia actually had none in the SEC championship game um but Kielin Russell's not a freshman sorry I just get the email that he's the name of freshman of the week I want to go back on my rant for a second that
exists anymore so Kielin Russell is a sophomore that is the new cosyda the college sports sports information director uh association that's their new designation it's freshman sophomore junior senior fifth year there are no more metrics as I talked about on this show so Kielin Russell as good as he's been should not be part of freshman awards because he is a sophomore I just I just have a thing with that and I the whole thing about true freshmen there is not a true freshman anymore there's a freshman and there's no fake freshman there's a sophomore you need to kind of catch up to the time but um anyway is actually interesting the game that Alabama lost at or sorry the game that they won at Georgia the Georgia lost Georgia had seven uh plays of 20 yards or more the one in Athens last year and then Georgia lost that game and then Georgia had zero plays of 20 yards or more in a one net game uh in the SEC championship so it's it's a strange stat in fact I I put it out after the game that Alabama is nine and one
in the past ten seasons when they give up seven or more plays of 20 yards or more so the more explosive plays that the other team does for some reason Alabama tends to windows games I don't know if it's just like the offense response you go back to like 2020 you had like that old miss game that was crazy the 63 to 48 you had the jade and Daniels jalen milro game that was crazy you had the uh there's another one in there the Florida SEC championship game in 2020 for some reason the offense just seems to pick it up when the defense is is kind of reeling and that was obviously the case in this particular game as well against Florida state but the overall trend to get back to that is a little bit concerning and I think we noted it over the summer that is good as the secondary could be and as as highly regarded as it was being talked about this offseason should be kind of pause for a second um especially with dejon li and that was a player that got picked on a little bit towards the end of last season to money jackson started over him
in the playoff last year obviously dejon jones was part of that indiana game in terms of doing a plays he's now gone but a lot of the other secondary guys are back to zabian brown brighamber keon sad bright morgan and you know those guys did not get the job done obviously against Florida state and um you know you go back to even the missed assignment I think that's fair to call it against east carolina the 68 yarder and then the very next play dejon li gives a putt touchdown he had he touched down that kentucky scored where their tight end got free behind the defense and then he had you know several plays in this Florida state game where he was either juice robinson or you had that 65 yarder on third and 17 that you know the the running back got that came the worst play he's ever the worst play came while looks ever seen him too and I had two and a quarter seasons but right yeah so um it's it's a little bit concerning I guess you can look at it in the sense that like people thought the front seven was going to be the bigger
issue of the defense and it hasn't so far um but again there's there's definitely going to be tougher tests as far as running games go you know going forward um and you know what passing games to it's it's not it's not as if florida state is like you know the 2004 cults were pay in manning like this is this is astrandanials and um you know some talented guys but it's not a florida state offense that we're gonna look back upon as a go this great passing offense so um you know it will be probably will with indiano but it's just the trend is a little bit concerning because it's not just one game it's not just one play it's not just one player it's a little bit um systematic I guess in terms of like having multiple games multiple plays multiple teams doing this in different ways against you and you know overall the defense is still in a good spot um you know they were I think number three in efficiency going into this game on ESPN stats I think they're now that number
12 or 13 um sorry number 11 now the offense and defense is number 11 so you know overall it's still up there as a defense it's just red flags kind of popping up in a few spots right now where you know that it's going to get tougher you know that mario tailors on your schedule next week you know that lsu and their offense has some ability you know that george has been running the ball well and they ran the ball well against you last year you know that a and m with marso read as bad as they looked against kentucky has potential to move the ball on you um so you know you you have a lot of those games coming up and I think you're just a little bit more uncertain about the defense than you were going into the season to me yeah 100% I think you got to calculate all my thoughts as well a little bit over 30 minutes here so we'll close it out um again just for those that might missed it Chris Chris booker freshman offense lineman off the team aka deer no rogers available for
