Hello and welcome to the latest episode of the Shaw Local Bears insider podcast. I am Chicago Bears B reporter Michael Dwo-Jick here with the Northwest Heroes Show Aguilaria as we you guys are getting the third episode of the of the podcast this week as we are joining you guys on Friday morning and getting you ready for Sunday's game against the New York Jets. Obviously a quick turnaround for this Bears team Joe obviously like it kind of was with us. You just I feel like you guys just heard from us but we've got good match up here not one that I think that a lot of you know there's some uncertainty a quarterback and also the Jets you know I don't think the Jets are your you know old school or I don't know the old schools right because I think the old school Jets are actually kind of good. They aren't your recent Jets at this point. Yeah yeah no they got a win already right they they open the season with a victory over Tennessee and then two good games against the Lions and the Packers lost them both but about old man Gino Smith well his that is old is case kingdom but the Gino Smith has done a nice job for them back in New York
and but you know we certainly I don't want to speak for you but I think you are going to pick the Bears in this one like I am but we'll get to that later but should be fun new and kick off you know those are my favorite. Yeah it should be a lot of fun I think that's obviously I know I'm sure a lot of bears fans are like they want to blow out win every single time but it is good to get a good test like this obviously Ben Johnson versus Aaron Glenn oh there are a lot of good storylines to this to this game where you know Jill correct me if I wrong I don't really think the bears and the Jets have like any sort of like history too too crazy of a history where in the past where they play each other since the mergers but so it'll be fun it'll be a good game and we'll there's still a lot of intrigue to it so if you're joining us on the YouTube live stream thanks so much for joining us this morning drop any of your questions your comments you got in there hit that subscribe button really appreciate your support there if you're joining us on Facebook thanks so much for joining us there hit that like button love hopefully and drop any questions or comments you got in there we can see those and hopefully we can get them throughout our
podcast and if you are joining us on the podcast thank you so much for joining us there make sure you subscribe and give us a rating as well you not only get the latest episodes of our live stream as soon as they are up but you also get every single story at every right in audio form so make sure you are subscribing to our podcast wherever they are available so Joe a lot of story let a story lines this week obviously the biggest storyline heading into this week's match up is who's the quarterback going to be for the Bears and Ben Johnson on Wednesday made a very clear that he's gonna play Koi the whole week and not say who it is going to be he didn't see said that all three quarterbacks are up for contention but I think you and I both agree that I only Caleb is playing considering he hasn't practiced on on Thursday we'll see what his designation is on Friday so it's a two horse race between Tyson Beijing and Case Keenum and you know Joe I kind of just still kind of go back to what we kind of talked about on Tuesday when we ended Tuesday's live stream where if you just listen to
what Ben says and he doesn't say explicitly you know that it's going to be Tyson Beijing like he's saying great things about Case Keenum and all that kind of stuff but it really does feel like listen Tyson was the backup at the end of training camp there's a reason they like them at that point case did a great job and you know but Ben was asked you know you're gonna write the hot hand and he said sure that's part of the evaluation but Joe you know for for all the different clues or a lack of clues it does feel like it probably will be Tyson Beijing but obviously that could change yeah I mean if he's ready to go he's you're you're looking you're paying him to be your number two quarterback performed so well any opportunity he's gotten pretty much in the preseason but you know it's it's his job you know Case came in again if he wanted to retire today we'd be like cool man yet yeah that dropped the mic moment you know Monday night football against Philly but it it tightens the guy it's not like he's been bad you know he's gotten opportunities before and he's stunk up the place
and let's go with the hot hand I mean Tyson should be your guy now I mean make the argument and you know it's like hey what if what if they're struggling here in the offences of moving and when it's half time and it's at it's a six to three game I don't know I think I think you probably still stick with them I don't think you're gonna go I mean it would be like well okay we gave you half and now we're gonna go back to the hot hand that hot hand belongs to you know Case Keenham so I think if Tyson is right to go and it seems like he's right to go physically that he should get to start and don't you feel like the especially the jets you know Aaron Glenn's a really good defensive coordinator don't you think he'll pick up on things that they were doing with Case Keenham and on Monday night like you didn't have to tape on Case Keenham since 2023 and you know you know you can look at career stuff throughout his time but you weren't really sure how he was gonna look in Ben's office so I'm sure a coordinator like Aaron Glenn is able to look at what Case did and then match up and aren't you so I feel like you know I just feel like the blue most kind of off
the rose at that point where you're just kind of like I don't think just because it happened on Monday night means it's gonna happen on Sunday no but I think that's part of the chess game that you know Ben loves you know maybe they wouldn't have the same game plan if it was Case again or if it is Case quarterbacking again maybe they wouldn't go back to the run more either gonna go with whatever works but you never know what Ben has up his sleeve so you know what he's we're already seeing this with him where he loves to be motivated by anything you want to throw against him and to keep everyone on his particularly opposing defenses so you know I mean and really you know it's not like Philly look Case made somebody good throws and was such a rhythm I think you could say well you know we'll do it again because you still have to defend it so I mean if he had to start for whatever reason or if he if he does start Sunday Case Kingdom that is I I feel fully confident that not that he
would duplicate what he did against Philly but he'd still be more than serviceable and just don't and don't turn the ball over you know and that with Tyson's gotta be that guy too like we know how turnovers can really swing a football game and just don't do that so I feel like that's kind of you're you're kind of getting at what you think the Bears should do or will do do you think or I guess you're saying what you think the Bears will do do you think Tyson Bayesian personally should get the start of it like if if Ben was like Joe I got to get your opinion like what what what do I do here what would you what would you tell him Starway Tyson or would you write the hot hand but I call him bad or Mr. Johnson or just what I just call bro I just get bro it's Star Tyson Bayesian son just start Tyson Bayesian I think Tyson again it's it's Tyson's job and he hasn't been bad and we don't you know I don't think any Bears fan is dreading right I mean we've had no but as Bears fans you know going way back as long as you can remember when the the backup quarterback has to
play you're knowing me like oh my gosh that's how we gonna win this football game with the backup I don't think anyone feels that way about Tyson Bayesian so go get him kid it's your opportunity and if you think you're a starting quarterback level player go go show it the Bears probably do right they've said that they they just have been a said they he thinks he could Tyson could start for you know some of the 32 teams in this league so there's an opportunity to get some good tape you know for Tyson in a real real game yeah I agree Joe the Bears do really I don't think that's just something that Ben says I don't think that Ben like Ben Tyson was here when he came he could very well could have just been like listen Tyson's really not my backup I'm now really into this I like Caleb's I'm gonna bring Kason and Tyson appreciate you but it's a cool story but you're not gonna work in the system but Ben every single time he has kind of you know had a chance to talk about Tyson Bayesian he said that
he thinks he's a great quarterback he loves the way he works the way he understands the offense and how the way he's able to run the offense and I know we've only seen that really in preseason action but I don't think that's just you know window addressing this is just you know Ben talking up Tyson I really do believe that Tyson you know if they really do believe in Tyson and that he gives him a really good opportunity it stinks that he didn't get his opportunity because of the concussion he's dealt with a few injuries here for the first time his career where it's like for us he had this injury in training camp and this injury and out of concussion but it's talking with Tyson yesterday he seemed very confident that listen like I'm Kason's biggest fan but obviously personally I still want to start like we're all I think we're all like in those positions we're like we want our teammates our friends or co-workers to succeed we also want to personally succeed right so but I but I do think that the bears I think they have that confidence in Tyson and I do think that Tyson does give something that like listen it isn't that the experience that the case has but he can he's mobile he showed you in that preseason game that he
can scramble he's not gonna scramble at Caleb Williams but he is much more mobile than cases cases did a good job of escaping the pressure but for how well that case did I just think that the bears have nothing they don't I don't want to make it sound like they don't have any confidence in case obviously they do but like that I said Tyson is your number two quarterback and there's a reason for that he's much more so you know he's he's confident in the offense he's younger he can move around a little bit better they're just things that you can do with Tyson they just can't do with case yeah truthfully and I think you know that best version we saw of case Keenam on Monday night I kind of expect to see that the way it looks from Tyson right he's neither guy's gonna look like Caleb Williams that neither guy has the arm the athleticism the escape ability the presence of of Caleb so I think it all like a lot a lot of timing and when we've seen Tyson in the past again it's mainly been preseason games but that's what it's
looked like that's like gosh I wish Caleb had a little more of that in his game you know Tyson doesn't have the big arm he's not gonna just throw bebes you know 30 yards down the field but I what case Keenam did that's what it should look like if it's all going well with Tyson if he in fact there whenever he gets his opportunity to play quarterback Rick is joining us in the check good to hear from Rick he said that case should play do we forget when he played in 2023 that he had more interceptions and touchdowns six interceptions and three touchdowns sure but that was also his rookie year and he didn't have Ben Johnson as his offensive coordinator I'll do respect to what 2023 was Luke Ketzy like all the respect to Luke Ketzy I don't think really think Tyson was really putting a spot to succeed as much as he will be with Ben oh 100% 100% again not that you know he's gotten the arm is gotten a lot stronger than I that when Rick's talking about that that four game stretch there in 2023
when Justin feels was out I mean you saw like oh that that's why he's a backup that's why he went undrafted oh okay because it's this is the big leagues now this is this is not D2 football so it's it's a different game and again he's still not gonna wow you with arm arm strength you know but it looks different but yeah not only you know that was three years ago how much he's he's come along but you nailed it Michael the coaches a little bit of difference in that coach now and what and you know they've been singing Tyson's praises you know going back to last year when Ben first came in almost seemed like it was like reading between the lines it seemed like Poe I sure wish Caleb could know the offense like this guy does because they were just effusive Ben in particular about Tyson a year ago yeah and they chose to extend them before they have to right like they chose to extend them last off season they didn't have to do that they could have just very easily been like all right we'll see how this plays out like this like they didn't owe anything to Tyson like he's
them drafted for agent out of shepherd you D2 shepherd university you'll get in owe anything to him but very clearly you know Ryan obviously Ryan pulls like them a lot and and Ben and the coaching staff wants to got a chance to look at them they're like oh like we might have something here that you know we weren't expecting you know obviously how much Ben you know like spining those playmakers that maybe we're overlooked throughout their career Joe I want to hit on one more thing before we hit on some other stuff that we learned this week you care about the whole playing koi not saying who the quarterback is like this government secrets I I listen I I understand I think a lot of times there are some NFL coaches who are just like acting like they have the nuclear codes and they're like acting like they let you know God forbid you say this one little thing and it's gonna be whatever but I do agree with the mindset of there's a difference between preparing for Tyson Bayesian and case kingdom so what are your thoughts about them basically saying that they're not gonna announce it until game time yeah I mean look I you know we see in high school too it's like even with injuries in high school you know high school's not the NFL where NFL has to report injuries it's different but coaches will if they
had their druthers they would never tell you about an injury even if you saw guy break his leg right in the field I he yeah we'll see we'll see if he's gonna play you know they would say something like that they're not gonna tell you they don't want to tell you that they don't want to tell you if a guy's starting for whatever reason so like I've never been ahead coach as a fan as a media member especially that that frustrates me right you just want to know the truth but they must think you have an advantage if the other team doesn't know who's gonna play so I have to respect that because I haven't been on that side of things and his part of me says what's the difference if you're preparing for case kingdom or or Tyson Bayesian or Caleb Williams you you know you have tape you know what these guys can do you know what you do best but so it makes a difference and so I'll have to concede of that would say okay it's frustrating again as a fan as a media member you want to know but we'll see now I don't know what they're gonna is that's gonna be a game time decision will you guys find out
media that is I think we'll find out at warmups I think well that's what we'll find no one on Sunday so yeah unless Ben decides to change everything when he meets with us this afternoon I I would imagine we're not gonna find out until warmups on Sunday that's when we'll find out and who knows maybe he'll do something crazy we'll be like the you know case will take half and Tyson will take half I wouldn't be surprised if if Ben did that but I would imagine we won't find out until warmups on Sunday morning how do you feel about it I I'm fine I don't know like I and I you know how I feel about this whole you know NFL coaches acting like you know they they are like you know generals and that kind of stuff but I do think that there is something there is a competitive advantage to this there is I understand like there's obviously a huge drop off between Caleb and Tyson and Case and you know obviously they're there a number two is a number three is for a reason but I do think there's a difference like I do think Ben can do a little bit more different things than he can do with case he's not you know like he said like Tyson is in a Caleb
type of scrambler but he can run like he can get out there he can maybe do a couple place here or there maybe there are things that you know that you know where you know case can be more of an eraser or something like that that Tyson can't I mean he's been in the league for 15 years like Case has the experience and might be able to do something against this defense versus this defense so if you're a defensive coach you might have to worry about you know confusing case much more than you do against Tyson you know I'm not saying that Tyson isn't good at reading defense is I'm just saying that either either guy has different things that they're kind of bringing into the table so I find it kind of funny to do it this way but I also understand why Ben would want to do it as especially since there is a pretty good difference between what Tyson can do what case can do yeah more one thing I'd say he must look at Case Keen him now Tyson how old is Tyson is he 25 I'm guessing I'm guessing like 25 26 25 right so Case and Case is you know what 38 we said Tyson must look at Case like
you know even if I never become a starting quarterback or someone you know annoying to me with that responsibility where I go into a season as they're more quarterback I can end up making a lot of money and playing a long time in this league just being me and maybe I'm just the backup dude but I'm serviceable I'm more than serviceable you know guys like this I think would it shock you if 10 years from now Tyson Beijing is still hanging around the NFL no not at all not at all right so could be a very good life I'm always said the backup quarterback is the best job in sports obviously you you you you you get paid and that kind of stuff there's always a job and you don't don't deal with all the hits and that kind of stuff and obviously you know there are moments like you know Andy Dalton comes in he throws a pick and that's just yeah that's not that's not what you want out of your backup quarterback but I I'm fairly confident even if listen Tyson can go on and you know he can
go on and go on a good stretch here we don't know how long Caleb's going to be out for for here but if he does well you could have a Malik Wallace situation where a team is like oh I like Tyson I'm gonna I think I can do something they're like band-aid and give him a big payday and he'll deserve it but I agree with you I think Tyson is showing you that he for whatever talent he doesn't have and again I'm not trying to make it seem like he's like he's he's he's playing in the NFL he's a number two he's obviously a very very very good quarterback but obviously for what he lacks and isn't like with Caleb I I think he really with his drive his intelligence everything he's able to do with his arm and that kind of stuff like I think he's someone that's gonna be around the league for a very long time yeah and you've talked to him I you know every time I hear him in any of you he just seems like a guy you want to keep talking to you like well spoken cerebral player understands football talks like it sounds like a veteran player even though he's still a kid and he's barely got his feet wet you know on the field in this league but he's he's a he's a likable player likable person and I you know I think you you root for
Tyson Baygeon unless it's you know you're you're playing against them all right Joe let's get over to some other stuff before we get into our preview bears injury report they didn't practice on Wednesday they had a walkthrough because of the short week Thursday we learned I guess let's start with the bad news and then we can get to good news the Andre Swift ended up on the injury report with the knee injury obviously we haven't got a chance to talk to Ben we'll get a chance to talk to him later a couple hours here but Joe you know I know the Andre Swift has always kind of ended up on the injury report and ended up to end it up playing you know him and Kyle just kind of end up there what are your what are your thoughts are you are you concerned obviously a knee injury for running back is never great but it's also one of those things where it just seems like these guys especially Deandre they just kind of keep on taking the hits and they just kind of end up playing there up the whole time yeah well I look at him more as it's just maintenance right and then that would be Andre Swift is in Joe Tuneys age or Case Kingdom's age but using running back he takes a pound you know how important he is to the team
you don't you don't want him missing again as much as everyone likes my nun guy and I'm included in that group you don't want to be missing Deandre Swift for a football game so if he needs an extra day just to ice or just chill I'm totally fine with that I I'm all for the veterans day off whether it's hockey is football NBA I don't know about baseball so much even though they play you know they play 162 games look different but you know what I mean like I'm cool with him just taking hey take it easy today heal up ice up whatever you need to do to get your body right for Sunday we need John Sunday yeah good so I hope that's all it is yeah they and they've used that approach obviously didn't play in a single preseason game like they they know how valuable he is to this offense obviously they gave him the contract extension right so we'll see what the designation is if it turns into like limited today I would imagine if it goes to limited they'll put him questionable even if he doesn't practice they'll
probably put him as questionable I would assume for the game unless it's something really bad happened to all of a sudden then he's outing that that's when the concern starts but even if he doesn't practice today I would imagine they'll probably list him as questionable and he'll probably I would imagine be good to go but obviously I don't know the ins and outs and I doubt that Ben is gonna give us any details today so we'll I guess we'll have to see on Sunday Joe the good news that we saw is that Kyler Gordon is back the Bears activated his 21 day practice window on Tuesday or yes the other day and so he's back he is on pup so he has a 21 day practice window but he will be a long wish a Marturner and Noah Suah allowed to come back next week so they still have to Mr. First 4 games of the season just because you know he's starting his 21 day practice window right now that doesn't mean you have to take the whole 21 days it just means that teams have 21 days to make a decision about whether they're
going to activate the player or put him back on pup or I think he's going to back to pup but Joe you know yesterday Dennis Allen was asked about Kyler Gordon he said he's looked good physically he looks good it's great to see him back on the field and for me it's kind of like one of those things where it's like he's in a proven mode with his coaching staff I would imagine I would like he's going to look good I think he's really and we won't really get chance to talk to him until Monday we won't get a chance to talk to him until he's finally activated off pup unfortunately so when he's in this window we're not going to get chance to talk to him but to me Joe obviously he's trying to prove that he's healthy but he's also trying to prove to this coaching staff hey this has been chaotic I understand last year wasn't good this year's not going to be good but I can still be one of the best slot cornerbacks in this league yeah first of all very encouraged and and wow we had good news with injuries we don't get to say that often to see him on the practice field so to me it's like
let's just pump the brakes a little bit because you need this guy for the long haul you don't need him for like two games and then he's back he's heard again and me sound again need him for the long haul wait we have to constantly we're gonna keep doing it all year it's only three weeks in you know it's it's the whole marathon not a sprint thing with him and we know how his his calf and the groin have given him problems the past the past year whatever so let's but this was encouraging let's just let's have another good day and then stack the good days and even if he doesn't play for green the green big game but you got him on the act of roster I mean he's limited get him back because we know what prime Kyler Gordon looks like and wouldn't that be a nice boost to this defense you're not just adding a guy you're adding a dude to your act of roster right so get him right but you know when there's you know going back a couple of weeks see me for that now about this guy may have played his last game as your Chicago bear and I think they're ready to just get rid of some
capacity or tell him to go away for the year you don't want that no one wanted that but when you kept hearing or not hearing anything about the status of him you start to wonder that this guy ever gonna play for the Bears again so this week was certainly encouraging and you know today's a new day let's see what today brings but I think that's really good news yeah and I think people forget just because of the whole frustrations like you even saw that when he wasn't I don't think he ever was a hundred percent last year but in that Rams playoff game you you saw the impact that Kyler Gordon can have he got after the quarter back he was good in coverage he he made up for mistakes by the linebackers or you know he picked up on on stuff I I really do think that this is going to be really interesting to kind of look back at like man this was kind of all chaotic chaotic and kind of crazy part of it was you know people being upset about it and kind of social media run and obviously you know Kyler putting out the videos and the bears being so weird about the short answers and they kind
of stuff but I do think at the end of the day a lot everyone's kind of just hoping hey like if Kyler Gordon could look like the old self and the highest paid slot quarterback in the league I think everyone will be move on from the story pretty quickly yeah the other thing though is like one of the these rookies continue to impress even Cam Lewis who I I didn't have much expectations for him coming into the season as a as an every down got with a corner or the slot guy no I can't Lewis because I was worried like boy if he's got to play a lot so he's he's been good and then you're right Malik Muhammad as well so those guys just that whole secondary group I guess I'll include Beijing you know the safety's in there too with not-pagent them in rather you know that they've been so good so the funny thing is these first three games you haven't missed Kyler as much as I feared they might or they'd really be
exposed but maybe we could talk about that later but we've talked about it like every pod now since the season started how how good those guys have looked the rookies in particular but but also Cam Lewis because again I I think you're you're more confident that what he could bring if he had to play more you know even even start than that I was but once again you're showing you your football knowledge there and you're you believe or confidence I guess and Cam Lewis has been validated I think through three weeks yeah you mentioned Cam Lewis show things for doing that he's limited with the hip injury this week we'll see what that is after he got hurt and other thing I wanted to put out before you finally get to this preview Braxton Jones is week to week with injury we'll see I don't it'll be interesting Joe because the Bears are still of the mindset of they're not rushing Aussie triple O if he's not ready they're not gonna they're not gonna do that and Ben made that clear again this week so when he was asked you know is Aussie gonna come in there obviously Theo is your
starter at left who's your swing tackle right like does that mean that Aussie has to can be thrown out there and Ben kind of slowed the brakes on now or yeah he slowed the brakes on that one he said listen we've got options Jordan McFadden could play at that point you've obviously Joe Thuney has played the swing or played tackle before so I think it's encouraging that that that's their approach still I listen there's nothing worse that you can do than throw him out there if he's not ready he re-injures the injury and then his career is completely destroyed because I think that's the worst possible thing you can do and I think the Bears are trying to avoid that but something to keep an eye on with that left tackle spot there Joe too because the opponent I feel like did fine you know I thought you did fine it Braxton was actually playing pretty well I thought during the first few games of the season so I think you know for how much of a hard time we kind of gave him at the start of the season or maybe fans gave him at the start of the season I thought he was playing pretty
well and that'll be interesting to watch just how much that left side kind of looks with deal in there now yeah I've said so many times about Braxton just be serviceable you don't have to be all pro level okay fine I mean until you find your left tackle in the draft or free agency whether it's IZ going forward next year or somebody else will be up but don't just you love to deal with him for we've gone through this so many times but this dang kid can't stay healthy son of a gun it's every if it's not the same injury it's something new and I don't know if it's the body type again I would never never say a guy's soft but are he certain guys injury prone while he's proven to be injury prone unfortunately that stinks because you're right Michael that wasn't like every week like I the lead again is Braxton Jones letting the quarterback get smacked no it hasn't been and so if it's got to be Theo that's not ideal but you know God bless Theo I mean he's done he's come in he's he's over he's already over
achieved as an NFL player right no there were no expectations for this guy but if you have to go with him at left tackle son of a gun then then you got to do it maybe got to chip more and you know there's ways to protect and make up for a guy because again no no team for my for my knowledge of the NFL no team has ever started five pro bowl players on the offensive line so you know you just got to make do but it really stinks about Braxton Jones it does hopefully he's able to get healthy you know you've seen Tyrex Stevenson come back after one week and that's a question that Rick has when Gordon comes back does that mean Tyrex goes to the bench I would assume Malik keeps his job you know it's interesting because Ben was asked about that and he said that for you know Tyrex was technically active and full but he still was limited like with what he was able to do so Ben kind of made it seem like he didn't say it explicitly but he basically was like listen like Tyrex really wasn't a hundred percent so they felt comfortable with putting Malik Muhammad out there
at outside cornerback opposite of Jalen Johnson so I wouldn't say that that's necessary Malik I wouldn't say that's necessarily Malik's job we'll see he continues to get better obviously he's looked really good at slot cornerback he's done fine I thought he's done fine at the outside spot but I it'll be interesting to see what that position battle looks like between Tyrex and and Malik once Kyler does come back because of the two between Tyrex and Jalen Johnson I don't think Tyrex is the worst cornerback here and obviously you're not you're not benching Jalen Johnson as he I think he's still I still think he's very talented I think he's getting back to where he was before but at this point through the first few games of the season I I don't think Tyrex is really the problem in the cornerback room no I mean again I'm shocked that through three weeks this secondary as a whole that's been pretty pretty good right I mean Jalen's had his issues I'm not ready to give up on
Jalen Johnson like you say he's done he's never gonna get it back this is his last year as a bear I I'm not there by any means I still have confidence and faith and believe that he will he'll get there he'll get there but it's a nice from the half but you know guess you know we always say we said it a hundred times last year but you never have enough depth at any position particularly the secondary we saw that play out last year with all the injuries so let's see it's a nice problem to have right but so far like Mohamed man he's peace looks really good and that's turning out to be look like a really good pick for Ryan Pulse yeah the bears have a bunch of good rookies it seems like on the defensive side of things you know Dylan Thinam and looks really did Dylan Thinam and at this point and sorry I know he keeps distracting us we'll get to our preview I know Dylan I think Dylan Thinam and at this point is the Bears best defensive player he is constantly there he he looks he doesn't look like a rookie he I think I think you see the reason why the bears were so excited
that they dropped that he dropped them at number 25 and then Muleen Muhammad is obviously looked good but it'll be interesting Joe all right let's get to this preview we're half hour and bears and jets and noon on Fox at Soldier Field every week we like to like to go through our previews here so Joe what is a big matchup that you'll be looking for on Sunday's game well I tell you what I just talked about how good the secondary is been but now they got another tough challenge because is Gino Smith for real here with what way he's been playing here Michael he's completing 70% of his passes not that like it's not good he just did it against one game for the season at small sample size three games he's he says like 70% of his he's completing 70 70% of his passes through for 321 against Detroit he had 247 against Green Bay 215 against Tennessee 3 TDs against Detroit like at 35 man the guys like you know and he's bounced around a
little bit he's what this is is like 16 I think second tour with the jets that sounds right right he's he's been really good and you know it's always a test now the running you know price hall is real good running back I don't know but but but Gino's like is he gonna come back to earth a little bit against this bears defense which let's just keep bragging about it since it's not going to be this case forever this way but they've allowed one touchdown in in two weeks in or the past two games this defense this crappy defense they're gonna ruin the whole season for Caleb this defense has allowed one touchdown in the past two games I know you're not facing the homes in Josh Allen but it is it is what it is you play who's in front of you and and they've been good so but I think it's a good test and can Gino Smith keep this up yeah I mean Gino Smith has looked like the sea harsh Gino Smith right like I think last year I
think last year kind of showed you how bad things were with the Raiders it's all of it was just not good last year with the Raiders and you know in his loan season there and I listen I was watching the tape I was obviously looking at you know what he was able to do against the Lions last week a couple weeks against the Packers he's just executing where he needs to be he's just getting the ball where it needs to be he's throwing he's finding his wife he's listen he's finding here at Wilson who's gonna be a really tough split person to stop he's got a Sedica Kenyan or I think yeah Kenyan should be who's you know he he looks like a really good one of the better rookie high-dens in the league right now he's making some nice plays so listen he he is looking like a veteran like we've talked about case key and he looks like a veteran who knows where the ball should be and that's what he's doing right now he's getting the ball where it needs to be he can keep the play a little bit alive with his art legs he's not Caleb Williams or or patching the homes but he can still he's mobile in the pocket so it I agree Joe it is going to be a tough test and I'm interested because you
know you mentioned you mentioned a priest hall he hasn't practiced all week and he's been one of the best running backs for them and for in the NFL so I do wonder maybe they're relying on that passing game a little bit more than they would in the running game so I think it's a really good test for this Bears defense right here where all right you're able to limit Jalen Hertz you were able to confuse them you created some pressure you're able to create the skies looks can you continue that because I I agree Joe I don't this isn't like you said this isn't you know you know Josh L and our Patrick my homes coming in but Gino Smith can run a very effective offense and I don't think this is going to be any slouch of a game yeah you mentioned Garrett Wilson I mean I know I know Bill Bears fans I mean let's just an NFL junk and you're watching games you know around the clock on Sunday a lot of people do that you know Garrett Wilson is like one of the top receivers in the game and he offensive offensive rookie the year a couple years ago you know high first round pick out of house day I
mean he he's a dude so if Jalen Johnson is and there's an you know pick up his game a little out of who's gonna be on Garrett Wilson but man this this could be this could be a problem here and if the Bears aren't dropping 40 points like they are you know expect to pretty much every game you who knows I mean you're you're in a ball game then then you got you got playmakers and just the idea of the Bears facing a case keenum type of performance that were like the guys just got us guessing and we're and he's just delivering balls where they're supposed to be playing like a veteran who's had success in this league that could concern you a little bit I would think if you're a Bears fan. Alright Joe from my storyline I'm mind kind of as a multi-faceted one which I know is cheating but I'm gonna do my general so here's the here's the here's the tree the general one is Ben Johnson versus Aaron Glenn obviously these guys
are super familiar with each other they spent a lot of time together as the coordinators in Detroit they went against each other you know Ben like the joke that he learned a lot from Aaron Glenn as a young play play caller early on in his career because Aaron would listen if the Lions defense made a play he let him hear about it and they really helped Ben kind of grow from an early age and so I'm really interested to see what is Ben Johnson what is the play call going against in Aaron Glenn defense and Ben said earlier this week listen what he was doing what Aaron Glenn was doing with Lions he's not necessarily doing with the Jets he's got different talent and that kind of stuff but listen the Jets still have a really good edge they've got smart linebackers their secondary is good and I'm really interested to see how does Ben approach Dan what does he do if it's Tyson how does he attack that and if listen if even if the Andre Swift does play and is fully healthy that Jets defense a rushed defense is one of the better ones in the league right now I know the two of
the outliers are they having gone against some of the better runoffences but I think that'll be a tough test for this runoffence for the Bears so I think this will be really interesting just to see I feel like Monday was a really big like Ben Johnson game like hey like I'm gonna do play calls here I'm gonna create some openings here and there with this route and that kind of stuff I think that'll be really interesting to see what that looks like going against a coach who's probably very very familiar with him outside of like Dan Campbell or something like that like that I outside of that I would imagine that Aaron Glenn has a pretty good idea of what's going on inside the mind of Ben Johnson and I'm really curious to see you know how whether how much that plays a factor into things into just being like all right you're gonna put Tyson here I know you like to do this I'm gonna put do this I think it should be a really fun fun little coaching matchup here yeah I agree it's a good good call and and Eric let us a history with Dennis Allen to for what that's where they go way back so yeah but I see there the jets are against small sample but they're third in
the league and passing yards allowed through through three weeks so I think it's just taken some time there and those are rough year there for Aaron Glenn and the jets last year but they seem to be again three games three competitive football games for them so they're making strides there and I don't want to call this me when get this late about just throw it out now but you know the proverbial trap game you know you bears have this emotional win case canem it's gonna be player of the week after that just the the the emotional love affair of player of the week he should get that so now none this short week and you have the yeah you got the jacks come on they're playing at our place that should be a W is this thing you want to those proverbial trap game so I don't know I think hopefully the bears are smarter than that I think they are which doesn't necessarily mean you're gonna win anyway but this should be a good chess match again with with Ben in particular versus Aaron Glenn and we've seen a lot of those so far this season right like yeah you have been Johnson
against big fan Joe last week we had right obviously against Brian Flores we've seen a lot of good matchups between Ben and defensive coaches and I think this will be this will be another fun one on Sunday all right Joe let's go to your surprise prediction what is the surprise prediction you have for Sunday's game I don't want to I don't want to be negative because I was negative last week and you were in case showed you Joe he did I said he'd throw a pick six or there'd be a sack you know sack strip sack and we'd lose the game because of the dang 38 year old man quarterback in the team so now it's the youngster we think we don't know for certain Tyson and you know do I have to bring it up because everyone's aware of it the jets still don't have an interception after being the first day of NFL history to go an entire season without a pick and Michael what about our guy nation right not even playing was a health scratch last week with the jets did you see that no I missed that part eat an active a healthy
scratch last week and they pay him like they didn't pick the they didn't break the bank for him but they pay a good amount right when they expect to hey guy at five picks last year break down season I I for one one on them back bears told you what they thought they really didn't didn't make them an offer but but that's on a side so am I gonna go with the jets getting a pick Tyson's capable of doing that and it's a nugget I'm not gonna go there I'm gonna go something all that's that all that's that up Joe for nothing I'm just kind of like stream of consciousness is going yeah anyway I was gonna go there but gosh darn it I just I don't like hoping then like you know like I don't bet and I'm being completely honest I don't bet but be like if you're betting against your team like I hope the bears lose I hope the bears lose because I picked the other team I don't I don't like doing that it's the whole conundrum when you're in that mindset but I'm gonna go something positive and I'm gonna
say I'm gonna say I'm gonna say I'm gonna throw this for 300 oh that's a lot of yards that's a lot of yards here in Caleb 300 in game I'm gonna go take 300 yeah I like that's a that's a that's a good day for the bears and that's a good payday for a Tyson Beijing down the road if he's able to put up 300 the RG yeah I like that especially for like he said you know the past defense is not great obviously if you're I think their defensive line is really good they've got talents on that defensive line so if they get to the quarterback that's trouble but if this bears offensive line is able to kind of keep them keep agent or working them I guess safe then yeah I think I like that I like that surprise prediction Joe I'm I'm gonna kind of go with the lame one because I feel like this one's kind of whatever but we haven't seen any trick plays where the trick plays so far other than other than the mic mart inspired pull the guards one yard run I don't know if you would call that maybe that's a
trick play I don't really know but we haven't seen any trick place why I'm gonna go with the trick play I think Ben's gonna call one against his former friend or he's his current friend like his former DC you know coaching mate I think it's gonna I think we're gonna see a trick play touchdown I think Ben you know likes to we isn't going into his bag of tricks as Jeff Joniick likes to say so I'm gonna go with that I think we've got a surprise surprise predict or we got a surprise little trick play coming up oh Darnell writes who's your who's your target here we haven't seen that yet we've seen the attempt but we have not seen an offensive lineman we have not the touchdown or even throw it I don't know we'll see but I would I would probably go with Darnell Darnell is a freak of an athlete let me tell you he can do so I mean you've seen we didn't even talk about this about them putting Darnell right at left tackle and Jonah Jackson had left guard and in switching it around where Joe Tuni was at right guard and and Theo Ben it was right tackle but I I mean Darnell's a freak of an athlete he's so crazy it's just athletic good for
high size and just what he can do so if anyone was to do it I would imagine it was good to Darnell right and Darnell right by the way I every I just get like I think we're seeing here a guy who's really starting to become that dude like that big dominating offensive lineman we saw it last year wasn't peak wasn't his ceiling but now I think every week here a little more you're starting to see that guy who's I see him smiling more while you're winning that helps but it just seems like he's starting to realize like hey man I'm the best offensive tackle in the NFL but maybe he's not but he's starting to develop that swagger just seems like even more people are catching up like this guy is a dude and that's that's fun to see it's it's better wild price since Kyle long it's kind of long you know that prime Kyle long was that dude but it's it's cool to see this a scent I'll call it that with Darnell right he looks like an all
protackle at this point I like he looks good he looks I mean you put him to love to put him to write he's just a menacing force and for him to be able to do it obviously we with that elbow it very clearly is just something he's gonna have to deal with unless he wants to have surgery but you know it's it's really impressive just the way he's looked so far I'm Rick going with this surprise prediction is Jets get their first certain exception oh no me and Joe are thinking the same Rick I don't know I don't know if you if you two want to be on the same wave lane there but if you if they do have an interception Joe yeah no on Monday who's gonna be to blame it's gonna be you too that's gonna be all bears fandom is gonna come after you two yeah Rick I'll blame you and you can blame me about that all right Joe let's get to our most valuable bear every week we like to choose our player that we think is gonna do the best you and I both haven't used the quarterback pick yet where maybe we should have which I joke last week hey should we have done with case key number or whatever
and you and I know we're not gonna use the pick on that well maybe we should because they weren't worked really well but yeah Joe you are leading the season now two to one it is I don't remember did you have a lead last year I care I never lead early on so this is your first career lead I'm retiring I'm retiring the count yes yes but yeah you've got your lead here you got two to one after three weeks you took Montessweat last week you had a sack you did fine Roma doons he didn't have a fine well you know he was okay he was okay I dropped everyone's talking about but he's he's fine I think if Montess didn't have the sack my Rome probably would have won but since Montess had the sack that that pushed him over or you know if Rome caught that touchdown I probably would have won so yeah you'll you'll you'll you'll you'll you cost me a most valuable bear I'm just kidding all right Joe but I we're gonna go now most valuable bear I'm gonna go first this week and man am I gonna keep going back to the
well I I don't know I'm not gonna use it on a quarterback though I would be interested to do that I'm gonna go I'm so tempted to go with DeAndre Swift but I the injury is little leaves me a little itchy and scratch we don't know details about it I think it's gonna be fine I think he's gonna be playing but there is a world where maybe he doesn't practice today and there is a little bit more concern but I'm gonna go with the guy that I've gone with before this season I'm going to coast in loveland I this just like like you mentioned Joe the past defense is not great and this feels like a game where you know Tyson Beijing just goes to his big you know his big tie down you know they kind of use a little bit more I don't think you have to ship as much going against this jet defense that doesn't mean that they're not good I but I don't think that Colston is going to be relied as much as he has been in the past few weeks for this past blockering for for the Bears offense so I'm gonna go with Colston Loveland I think there's gonna be heavily involved here I
think that he can have a pretty big game I've used them before I think I won no it's close to no coast and loss both weeks right because he lost a week one yeah I think this is a redeeming game I listen I think no Ben Johnson said these wide receivers and I think I'm including you know Colston and and Cole in this they're chomping at the bits like it hasn't gone the way they wanted to the first three weeks you know he was asked about Rome and you know whether he's disappointed about where's Rome at at the start of the set this point of the year but that this feels like a game to me where they really get the passing game going with Tyson so I'm gonna go coast to Loveland always like that pick yeah Loveland we're seeing this little step like half a step by half a step by half a step here from zero catches to what two and then three of four Monday night against Philly so he's up to six there we go still looking for that first touch out after he was we know about that that six
inches elbow down short against Philly so I want let's get this guy going for crying out loud we I still think he should be he is a pro-ball caliber player oh yeah so let let and you gotta have the numbers you can say well he really blocks well and he does but you need we need receptions and I think Tyson's gonna find him I like that pick go bears I mean let's get this guy going I mean for crying out loud he's a huge weapon literally figuratively so let's go all right Joe you're trying to build your lead here now make it a three one lead what is going who is going to be your most valuable bear for Sunday afternoon well I hope he plays Tyson Bay I just picked him for to throw for 301 so I got to go with Tyson Baygent you're using your quarterback pick you're using your one of three gosh I know I'm using it on the backup who might be this is an interesting strategy you know you're getting a little cocky here with your two one lead now now you're now you're using your quarterback pick I gotta go for because I'm sensing like you know what I I don't think I can
out maneuver you around strategize you going for the rest of the seat so I got to be a little bold here but when I pick a three oh like he throws for three oh one who's gonna be better right I'm gonna see them and get gets three picks for something like that I got a little trivia for you because I had to look this I was thinking about this like I had to look this up let me tell you if these names ring a bell to you at all Rob Johnson Steve Matthews and Mark Brunel I want sort of Mark Brunel but is that trigger anything a little bit where you going with this the 1997 Jacksonville Jaguars were I think the only team in NFL history to win three games with three different quarterbacks 97 like Brunel was injured to start the season they went with Rob Johnson I never I don't remember Rob Johnson I don't remember Steve Matthews I remember Shane Matthews the former bear quarterback Johnson won Steve Matthews got a win and then Brunel came back and they went to the playoffs that year those are the
good Jags teams the early Jags teams and Brunel so they I think it's the only team NFL team in history to win three games with three different quarterbacks other teams have done it in a season what they they the back of it went so if Tyson plays and they win obviously that would be three wins with three different quarterbacks so how about that nugget I don't know if that's been talked about with media or it's been you know there's so many nuggets everyone's finding some stat or trivia but I thought I thought that was interesting so look they they're favorites to win and we think we think Tyson's gonna start and they should win should and that would that would be interesting right first three wins with three different quarterbacks yeah it'll it'll be interesting the last time this is courtesy of Brad Biggs of the of the Tribune last time the parents have three different quarterbacks and three different games was week weeks 15 through 17 and 2021 I don't know how many people are living
loving to relive that year but Justin Fields obviously lost in against the Vikings in week in week 15 nick foes 1 25 to 24 more that thriller in week 16 and Andy Dalton won against the Giants in week two it's funny Joe obviously how times have changed I don't think those quarterback changes were not because of injury those were because they didn't well I think the Justin Fields was an injury but it was that was a while then to 2021 who was the last quarterback again you said they won Andy Dalton and he don't so they did get three because Justin won one again that year so right so that would have been three different quarterbacks to get wins in one season yes yes so to maybe the for this three games band though that Justin lost in week 15 okay so maybe the first time a team starts three and oh if if it happens Sunday it's all your field first time the second team besides the 97 Jags the second team to win its first three games because the Jags seemed that was their first
three wins that year were with the three different guys that quarterback so maybe this could be the second time that would they would start with three wins so anyway yeah the Bears are hoping that's exactly what's gonna happen yeah Rick chiming sorry I keep kidding my laptop most available bears gonna be lovedland and he also said that this might be a chiro Santos game we'll see on that all right Joe bears are again I get stop stop with the with the kicker hey Joe I he's done well this year he teed me up for that one no point intended yeah all right Joe bears hosting the Jets final game of this rare three game home stretch you don't really see home home stands in the NFL but we got three straight games at home before heading down the road next week which got moved by the way the week five game against the Packers was moved from 325 to noon kind of tells you what Fox thinks about the state of the Packers and Taylor potentially not playing next week but we're worried about that later bears Jets noon Sunday at soldier field Joe what do you think happens here and just to clarify I wasn't hating on chiro I just met when he said
santo I don't want it to be a field goal game coming out of San Joe like that's like yeah if you're you need a chiro Santos field goal I don't care if it's from 50 or 20 yards to beat the Jets that's probably to be have have a lot of a lot of bad things that happened you know on our Monday podcast like I know what's wrong if they need a field goal so anyway I think the bears should score like I believe in Ben I believe in the back of quarterback even if it's who's the kid of Miller Moss if they if they have to summon him at some point you know so I'm gonna go I'm gonna go a 30 33 23 wow 10 point win and yeah I I think that the bears win this game Joe but I I don't think the Jets the Jets have kept it close and I think they've looked they like they needed a late fumble you know fumbled snap or or a geno smith fumble the install lines to lose on the road in Detroit green Bay they lost an overtime and you could say that they should have won that game I I think this is a close game I'm gonna go 27
24 I I think that the Jets team as much better I think they're gonna cause havoc especially early on I think you know for how great we the that opening drive look last week I think that Aaron Glenn will do a good job of creating suppressor early on Tyson I'm assuming Tyson is gonna play and gonna start it's been a while since he's played so I think that's gonna cause a little bit of havoc but I do think eventually the offense gets clicking and they may get a tight game though I I think I the Jets have played tough they they've really kind of another one and two but I I think they are not to do that use that cliche but I do think they are a little bit better than the record since they are well I can ask you I have to ask you this you've been around Tyson Baygent last couple years here three years I've gotten to know him a little bit I assume do you think he'll go into this game like man how do I follow up case can I'm like I have to be really good like pressures on me a little bit or he's like is he a kid who's gonna be I'm guessing it's the latter here that I'm gonna discuss now that he's
confident doesn't matter I'm a pro I don't care if case had a bad game a great game whatever I'm the guy I gotta go and do my thing and I'm not even thinking about that or is he like hang on how do I follow up case can him I better have a good start no I don't think players worry about that I think Tyson is obviously happy for case that he did a great job but I think he's also a motivated guy who's like listen like this could determine if I can become a starting quarterback like you're you don't care what other people do you just gotta worry about what you gotta do and I think that's Tyson's approach where he's only worried about himself he's not putting more pressure on himself I think he realizes that if he does get to start this is a really good opportunity he's confident in his ability he knows the offense really well and so yeah I think listen he his entire time has said I realized when my role is here I realized that bear spans don't want to see me and after August because that means that Caleb must have gotten hurt or something went wrong but I think he's also motivated in himself and he knows that he can perform at a high level in
this offense that would be my guess I hope so he seems very mentally tough to that's probably another reason why he's gotten to where he has in this league and he's gained the trust of everyone who's been around him and the thing we forget it's been a while since we really had long conversations about Tyson Beijing but one of the reasons as you know when why they liked him early and why he's been able to stick around especially those first couple years where it's like you haven't proven anything yet you're you're a cut candidate was just that he's played a lot a lot of football even back with Justin Fields like like he's played a lot more football than Justin Fields back then so it's not case-key to him like we talked you know Tuesday I guess it was and I almost said Monday Tuesday after the Philadelphia game that cases played so much dang football in his life going back to his college days and been around it that this stuff that seems like like advanced calculus at Harvard material for him it's like I got it I got it so and Tyson even though he's much younger seems like he's that same you know cerebral guy I've taken so many snaps in my life it's
it's amazing right so I think that does matter for him and everything we've seen from Tyson other than the big arm we I know that arm strength we've liked so I hope the kid does well not only as a Bears fan but like you just like to see guys who get an opportunity guys who are labeled you're never gonna make a kid in this league that then you get the chance you say yeah look at me look at my 301 passing yards yeah and I think listen it's a great opportunity for him right like it's it's you I think I agree with you Joe I think Bears fans obviously want to do want them to do well because it means the Bears are gonna win and they're gonna be in a good spot once Caleb Williams does come back whether that's next week or in a in a few weeks here but I think they also realize that Tyson's a great guy and I think they realize that hey this is a really fun story and and Monday night was a really great story with case coming back and all that stuff and why not do it again by having Tyson kind of come in there and run the offense so I'm sure a lot of Bears fans are
really looking forward to see what that kind of looks like unless Caleb unless cases of starter and been through us for a loop here this entire week and we just wasted an entire episode basically insinuating that Tyson is going to be the or that Tyson's gonna be the quarterback here all right Joe well that's everything we've got for this Friday morning thank you to everyone who joined us in the YouTube livestream appreciate all the comments and questions make sure you subscribe while you're here on the livestream and check out all of our other shorts and we got a lot of good videos from the Bears throughout the weekend a lot of high school stuff as well so make sure you're checking out all of our YouTube shorts on our YouTube page I think it everyone who joined us on Facebook and thank you as always everyone who joins us on the podcast you can subscribe to our podcast wherever they are available you'll not only get our latest live streams whenever they're available but you will also get all of our stories in audio form so make sure you're subscribing to our podcast wherever they are available so Joe hopefully everyone has a good weekend I think the
