Well, well, well, well. If it isn't the guy who said the NHL season is not going to start on time. They're not going to open the season on Tuesday. That was a bold prediction. Well, well, well, well. If it isn't the guy who said this first game between Florida and Carolina is going to be a shootout. And I think it's going to a shootout 00 and Edmonton later at the last night. And that was, you were, you were in polar opposite round. I put way too much money on both of those outcomes. 15 saves for Mark's term. You can't get 20 shots on Jacob Mark's term. I'm, I'm in trouble, Jim. My account, my bookies are going to be. Didn't you say you'd Tristan Jari would win the Vesda? Is that another one you're bold takes? Like I like to joke around. That is just something I absolutely was never saved my entire life. Tristan Jari. What would that pay though? If you went online today and said, here's five bones on a Tristan Jari Vesda. I mean, hey, we can look that up probably.
I don't even know if books are like giving out that kind of. I don't think he's even on the list to be honest with you. It's not an option. Let's see this. No offense to Tristan Jari. Well, a little offensive actually. It's a six, it's 60 to one plus six that that's way too low. Yeah, I feel like it's going to be high. It's going to be on the oilers. You put 10 bucks on it. You win 600. That's not enough. That's just a waste of 10 bucks. That's a donation. You might as well at least don't eat it. Crumple it up and throw it down the street. It would be serving better. But somebody really needs it. We'll get it. Stood skater maybe. He could be the best. No one here. That could be. It's interesting. I had my fantasy hockey draft the other night. It's a three three person keeper league. And you can only keep one goalie. And it's a goalie driven league. Like you get a percentage point per save and wins. And so even if you make 40 saves. And you say make 45 saves and you lose one nothing. You still get four points. So like goalies are the end of the Stuart skater with third overall.
Wow. Yeah. Interesting. I mean, I have both that Stuart skater is going to have a good season. But even I probably wouldn't go to my high. And then my buddy in the league who's stacked and loaded kept bussy as his goal tender. And he's like, but if hellabuck gets traded there, I'm who you are who? Because even if bussy becomes even if bussy comes here in a trade, I think or the other goalie, I think they're still going with skinner for the majority. I think it'd be a more of a share. Yeah. No, for sure. And I don't know if Carolina wants to trade bussy. They probably would rather take a check on it. Probably. Yeah, I would. But I don't know. Like I don't I hate disparaging him at all. But less than 40 games in the show and your three playoff games all be it an Stanley Cup final and you won and played well. That's just a risk, right? I mean, that's any time a goal any goalie I think can catch lightning in a ball. That's why Dorvish and Montreal last night. I'm like, well, good for you because I'm watching you this year that a lot of goalies have come into the league catching lightning in a bottle.
Yeah. And he looked good and then trying to make it consistent. He looked very good. Yeah. But I'm interested to watch if like he can repeat what he did last year and if bussy can. Yeah. And he only went one goal. Carolina does a tremendous job. It's just a limiting chances. But that overtime goal was pretty brutal. This is maybe a conversation for Jetson in itself, but we can do it here quickly. Like for everybody said, there's no market in hell about socks in the playoff. You have a Carolina Hurricanes team that want to Stanley Cup using three different goalies. And they still desperately want him like it for everybody who believes there's no value there. Just because the market isn't there doesn't mean there's no value there. And you can look at the unrestricted free agents like bunting and tar sanko and Patrick Lanny that are out there. It's not that there's not value there. It's that the market dictates all I got all I need to give you is this. Yeah. And so that's what I think is going on with Connor hella bug because Carolina want to cop with far less goal tending.
But they don't want to have to do it again. Yeah. They understand that he's a valuable goal asset and they'd like to get him. Yeah. And I think they understand to that. Hey, we are really like. We're on borrowed time. We are. We want we want to Stanley Cup final using two different goalies. Yeah. That's not the way we like to draw it up. We're lucky that Carter Hart had maybe the worst Stanley Cup final for goalie in a long time. And so for every Carolina who wins using three different goalies and two in a Stanley Cup final series, there's the goalie that played well all playoffs until he got to the Stanley Cup final and then got lit up. And Vashel has the key example bear was just like I like that. If he's on his game, you are toast. Like there's nothing you can do. And and say what you will about his playoffs that Vince valid his resume is what it is with hella bug. But if you put a team, it's also been proven. If you put a team that plays like him and I know people are going to bring up the playoffs. But the jets did not play in any playoff series with Connor hella bug like they did in the regular seasons. Like the Colorado series they lost in five games was a total 180 from what they did in the regular season.
And so he was playing a series. Carolina's proof that if you get a goalie like Halibuk and you play that system in front of him, you'll be fine. Yeah, Halibuk would I mean, it would be interesting to see his odds to win the best. And if he was on Carolina because he would put up unreal numbers. But we'll still see what happens still waiting on a resolution there. But there was an announcement in the NHL the Ottawa Senators named a new captain. And it maybe wasn't the name that some people were expecting. But Thomas Shabbat is the new captain, the 11th captain and franchise history for the senators. Were you surprised at all when you heard that? Look, I've always liked Thomas Shabbat. I know he's not penned out to be because when he was coming into the league and after the world juniors and all that, he was looked upon as like Kale McCart. Yeah. Now he's not Kale McCart. Don't get me wrong. But he's still a very good defenseman and can put up some points. He's in a secondary role there because they are stacked on D. Even the academic checker, whatever's name and coming in, I really like him. So I like it.
But I thought he's been there long enough. He's still a really good player. And the reason I like the move is because of what he said when Brady to Chuck got traded. And he said, you got to you want to you have to want to be here. And I thought he did like he was pretty. He was as vocal as you could get on to Chuck getting out of Ottawa. And I think that's the litrified him as captain. Like he's an Ottawa senator. He believes in the team. He likes it there. He's a good player and he's been there long enough. But the stance he took about wanting to be there, I think was a no brainer for him to be named. And I know there's other great players there like Tim Stutzel and stuff like that. Jake Sanderson, I think, is going to be captain eventually. But I like the move now because of how he's conducting himself throughout the lean years there. And how he's conducted himself by not being the elite guy that number one guy that he originally was drafted to be. And then the comments about the to Chuck getting out of Ottawa. I thought, yeah, that's captain material. Well, and he, I mean, he got thrown right into the fire with Ottawa too. Yeah. If he was a young, young defenseman playing almost 25 minutes a night and they were just relying on him.
And he got injured because of that. And they were lying on him too much. He got injured again. Is there is something to that because I believe that was the same draft as Ivan Proverov. And those were both guys who kind of came in. They got a lot of minutes. They put up really good numbers in those minutes. And then the play kind of just tapered off. Like, I don't know what I think Shabbat's is more injury related. So do I. But when you look at guy like Proverov who's never missed a game in his NHL career. Do you think that like sometimes guys think they made it too quick? I don't know about that. I just think that what you see from a player doesn't mean that's what he's going to be or what he is. And I think the injuries have really derailed Shabbat. But again, I hate saying that because I still think he's a really good player. He can produce points in a top four role. He's just not your number one. Here's the reverse of that that I always have a problem with. It's great if you have the macars and the Rewinski's that can play 28 minutes a night and put up more than a point per game and all that.
That's awesome. But that's not your goal as a team. And the reason for that is, he's like, Kael McCarget injured last year. Zach Rewinski's been pretty much healthy. Like that's not the design. Miral Heiskenin was coming in to be the next one. And he's again, very good. But his overall round-in-oh game has never been what everybody thought it would be even though he's an all-star like he's an all-star player. But he's not that elite upper echelon top three in the league. But everybody keeps thinking he's going to be, because they run him into the ground. Right? And I think that that's what's lost in these conversations. As Thomas Shabbat could play for 18, 19 years, in my opinion, and be very valuable. But we love these guys that these number one, Victor Hedman's another one, that we love these guys. We can play 27, 28 minutes a night. Look at Josh Morrissey's, you know, further. Is that what you want to be doing, though? Like if you can play those guys 22 minutes a night, they're just going to be more effective and stay healthier and longer. I get what you have in a thoroughbred like that that you want to run him.
But you don't want to run him into the ground. And so I think Thomas Shabbat's a prime example of that. You augmented the rest of the blue line so that he didn't have to be in. Now he's going to be more than fine. But he's also not going to be that stud guy that plays 27 minutes a night and gives you a point every two games. Yeah. I wonder if he's going to be a senator for life. He's got a contract runs up not this year, but next year, I believe. That's going to be a pretty hefty paycheck to be in the captain. There's something to be said about this. Like we're in this era where everybody wants to win. And I think what's lost in it is everybody can't win. I mean Charles Barkley, right? And Mike Gardner and all these guys that, right for arrow, that played for 20 years and just never founded. Drome again. Yeah. Everybody wants to move to contending teams. Everybody wants to win. But Colorado last year is a prime example of that's not how it works. And so I just think that more players, the pendulum will start to swing back that as long as we're competitive. I don't mind resigning here. Now he's captain, right? So if they make the playoffs the next two years and maybe get bounced
in the first or second round, I could see him staying there forever. I mean, if they turn into the Vancouver connox, then obviously he's probably going to want to get out. But I do think we're going to see the odd player creep in that they're like, you know what? I'll spend my 18 years here. And I hope we win. And if we don't, you know, that's all I'm okay with that. I'm not saying they're okay with it. But I mean, you know what I'm saying? Like I'm not going to go chase it and start wanting out and start, you know, signing one year deals everywhere. I just, you know, I love being here. I love the family of it. And Chris Phillips is a prime example with the Ottawa Senators. Chris Neal about guys who probably could have gone somewhere else. And they're just like, as long as we're competitive and have a chance to win, I'm okay with staying here.
