LinkedIn is pretty great at a lot of things, like helping you tap into the latest trends and insights in your field. We cannot stop your coworker from tapping her pencil. LinkedIn can help you find new jobs that align with your career goals. We cannot help you find the source of that weird smell in the office fridge. Yeah. And while we can't stop your coworkers from bringing their hobbies into the office, LinkedIn can help you bring your career to the next level. LinkedIn is the network that works for you. Pick up some Coca-Cola at a store near you.

So I had just gotten home from school with way too much energy. I saw my parents enjoying their fancy little hobbies in the backyard, and all I wanted was to run over and give them a huge hug. But somehow I scared my dad's horse. It started kicking like crazy, fresh mom's million dollar plants, smashed through the wooden fence, and disappeared down the road. Oh, Lord, my prized horse! Honey, what on earth is wrong with you? Hey, I'm Penny, 17 from Utah. Looking at me acting all extra like a literal firecracker? You probably never guess I used to be the most tragic gloomy kid on the planet, right? No, seriously. I was an orphan. Literally never knew my bio parents. And on top of that, the universe generously gifted me end-stage congenital heart disease. For over a decade, my whole life was just four hospital walls, a boring heart monitor beeping, and this constant, low-key terrifying tread that I could just flat-line at any second. But then, an actual miracle happened. I got a matching donor.

The transplant was a total success. The day I woke up with my chest actually thumping so strong. I knew I was officially born for the second time. From that exact moment, I promised myself I have to live for the person who didn't. Stay hype, be positive, live my absolute best life, and just spread that energy everywhere. And just a hot minute later, Thomas and Cassandra showed up. They hugged me so tight saying they knew instantly I was the daughter they'd been searching for. I literally thought, I am for real the luckiest girl on this planet. Pulling up to the new house, my jaw was on the floor. Everything was so insanely rich, like straight out of architectural digest. The entryway alone was hotel lobby huge, but why was it so creepily quiet? Thomas and Cassandra basically tossed me a room to settle in and then just ghosted me. Determined not to let the family vibe flop, I bounded over to bond with Cassandra. I was just yapping about everything. School, the neighbor's dog, literally whatever.

That is quite enough, Penny. Stop this obnoxious noise at once! You are part of this household now. Learn to keep quiet and behave like a proper young lady. Not some unscivilized brute. Cheese Louise, was I really being that cringe? That first dinner, the vibe was so frozen, it legit gave me goosebumps. Zero words spoken. The silence was too loud, so I just hyper focused on my main talent. Eating! Seeing they weren't eating, I even tried to spoon feed them, you know? But who knew? Good Lord! Can you not eat with a shred of decency? You look like an absolute wild animal! And while we can't stop your coworkers from bringing their hobbies into the office,

LinkedIn can help you bring your career to the next level. LinkedIn is the network that works for you. Coca-Cola for the big, for the small, the short, and the tall, peacemakers, risk takers, for the optimists, pessimists for long distance love, for introverts and extroverts, the thinkers and the doers. For old friends and new, Coca-Cola for everyone. Pick up some Coca-Cola at a store near you. Ah, wasn't that way too harsh? After that dinner trauma, she'll just went up. I just hid in my room zoning out with music and paintbrushes that peace lasted maybe five minutes. Sixthest pointless noise at once! What do you think you're doing? Your only job is preparing for the private academy. I will not have you wasting time on this useless nonsense. But it's my hobby.

Still thinking about how they saved me. Fine, I'll try to match their vibe. The next day, Cassandra did a total revamp, prepping me for private school like a billionaire Ares. But that lasted one minute. All I could do was awkwardly smile while Cassandra looked ready to spontaneously combust. She just swallowed her rage and left. Goat was low-key eating me alive, so I sneaked into Thomas's office for a rich people-edicate manual to place her. But no book. Instead, I accidentally dug up my own adoption file. Suddenly, arguing got louder, heading right for the room. Oh no, I'm so dead! I shoved the file down my shirt and slipped right under the desk, right as the door bursts open. I cannot stand that girl for another single day. She's loud, uncouth, and nothing like our grace. I just want my own daughter! That is impossible, Cassandra! It's not out of it! Grace is gone! What? This? This is all your fault!

If you hadn't, she wouldn't have died such a horrible death. Holy guacamole! They accidentally knocked over the trash can with a massive clang! Thomas and Cassandra froze. I was so busted. Trumbling, I slowly peaked out for my hiding spot. Hey, I was just... How dare you eavesdrop on us? Cassandra. The vibe right then was straight up out of a horror movie. Luckily, Cassandra snapped out of it and just laughed. I'm sorry about the way your mom acted earlier. The truth is, we had a daughter named Grace, but she passed away not long ago. The shock completely broke your mother, and she hasn't been the same since. I wanted to adopt you, because I hope your bright, cheerful energy might help ease some of her pain. Please, try to understand us. Oh, so they brought me here to replace her? Not because they actually wanted me? Suddenly, it felt like a huge weight was pressing down on my already-weak chest.

Right after that, Thomas had to leave for a business trip, so it was just me and Cassandra in this massive house. Determined to fulfill my healing mission, I totally ditched the loud music and activated my elegant aeros mode. I learned to walk softly, whisper, arrange flowers, bake, and prep for private school. I literally tried to make myself as small and quiet as possible just to please her. Get these away from me! Stop trying to do things. It just looks pathetic and exhaust me even more! Geez Louise, what did I even have to do to make this woman happy? Feeling totally stuck, I risked it all and sneaked into Grace's room, hoping to find a diary or a hobby I could copy. But looking around, every single memory was kept so perfectly clean. She must have been so incredibly loved. If only I could have just a fraction of that love. Right then, the door just exploded open. You... how dare you sit foot in this sacred room! I panicked and backed up and accidentally bumped to this little music box, and then a voice started playing.

Mom and Dad, I love you guys. Mom stared at the mess and complete horror. Then she rushed over and shoved me to the floor like I was her enemy. Please, I didn't mean to! Get out! Get out of this room right now! You are a crude, nothing girl! You will never ever replace my real daughter! Every word she said literally felt like a thousand knives to the chest. At that exact moment, it hit me. All my effort to be loved was completely pointless. I got back to my room, locked the door, and just sobbed harder than I ever have in my life. In total despair, I pulled out that adoption file. And then, my heart legit skipped a beat. On this old page, a name and address popped right out. My biological mom. Rosemary! Right then, the spark of hope just ignited. If this place didn't want me, I was gonna go find where I actually... LinkedIn is great at connecting you with the world's largest professional network. But it can't connect you with motivation

on a Monday morning. LinkedIn can help you get insights from your professional community. But it can't give you any insight into why Dave's still talking on mute. And while it can't stop your boss from bringing tuna for lunch, LinkedIn can help bring your career to the next level. LinkedIn is the network that works for you. Visit LinkedIn.com to learn more. And extroverts. The thinkers and the doers. For old friends and new. Coca-Cola. For everyone. Pick up some Coca-Cola at a store near you. Sleep along. I packed my stuff and sneaked out of that freezing mansion in the middle of the night to find her. Following the address, I ended up in this super remote countryside

where my real mom lived. Stamming at the door, my heart was pounding. What if she rejected me too? But honestly, I literally had nothing left to lose. Oh my lord. Are you? My penny? Oh my god, she recognized me instantly. This warmth. This was the real love I'd been searching for. Turns out Rosemary never actually wanted to abandon me. Back then, she was just a poor single mom. My heart condition needed a massive amount of money for surgery she could never afford. Leaving me at the orphanage was literally the only way I'd survive. Handing you over. It felt like my insides were being ripped out. There was no pain worse than losing the child you gave birth to. Hearing that, all the hurt I'd been bottling up just exploded. I wasn't just thrown away. I was saved by a mother's ultimate desperate sacrifice. So I made up my mind right then. I was staying in this town, living a simple but happy life with my real mom. A few days later, Thomas somehow tracked me down.

He bowed his head, apologizing for Cassandra's unhinged meltdown and begs me to come back. I'm not mad at Cassandra, Thomas. I understand how horrible the pain of losing your own child is. But I've tried my best. I just can't be a family with you. It's not what you think, Penny. There is something I have to tell you. The donor of the heart beating in your chest right now. It's grace. No way. After grace is accident, I secretly signed the donor papers. I'll be to save someone else. Then I spent years tracking you down to adopt you. I just wanted to keep the last bit of my daughter's heartbeat alive. So it's true. The heart that revived me belongs to their daughter. That heavy debt of gratitude crashed down on me. I had no choice. I packed my bags and accepted that I had to return to that mansion one more time. As soon as I stepped inside, another nightmare started. Cassandra's mind had completely snapped. She looked at me like I was a ghost.

Get out! Who told you to come back? Get out of my house now! Thomas ran out to shield me, but that just made her go even more unhinged. She grabbed my suitcase and smashed everything like a maniac. Seeing my precious stuff thrown everywhere, I was shaking so hard I couldn't even breathe. Cassandra, snap out of it! Grace's heart is beating in Penny's chest! The mansion went dead silent. That sentence hit her like a bucket of ice water. The brutal truth shattered her madness. She collapsed, sobbing in total helplessness. Looking at that poor woman, all my anger and hurt just evaporated. I wasn't mad anymore. I just felt so bad for the agony of a mother who lost her child. After that night, Cassandra completely broke down. She had to be hospitalized for specialized care. I packed my bags again. I moved back to live with my real mom in small town. It's not rich, but I can finally be me.

I can be loud, laugh, and paint-freely without worrying about a thing. Thomas still visits sometimes to bring us gifts. Years went by and what felt like the blink of an eye. One day, Thomas brought Cassandra to see me. She was finally doing so much better. Penny, I'm so sorry. For all the pain and cruelty I've put you through, I've learned to accept that Grace is gone. But, Grace, let me visit you sometimes just to feel my daughter's heartbeat in you, so I can miss her a little less. Looking at her, all those wounds inside me vanished. I nodded and hugged her tight. Grace's heart saved my life, and now it's finally healing all of us. Your LinkedIn feed can give you daily insights from your professional community.
