Football is back and this is believed. You're home for NFL and college football news and analysis all season long. Now let's start the show. You can always be worse. Here we go clips fans. Clippers, talk to the name. He's a basketball talk and golden car. New episodes after every game on demand. Follow Clippers talk wherever you get your podcast. Who's Clippers? Clippers. Welcome to Clippers talk.
I'm Adam Osland. Good to be with you guys. Just got done. Watch the latest episode from Pobletori. About the Clippers, Kawai Leonard. And this time, Boyn Go Wireless. When does the hurting stop? Yeah, I'm not sure when. I won't spend too much time on it here. I'm tired of this grandpa. That's too damn bad. We do have a lot of good news today. We have some actual basketball news which by itself could be considered good news. We have player interviews from Hawaii at training camp. Guys, we didn't hear from yesterday. Max Drews spoke. We'll hear from him. We'll hear from Coach Lu. On starting lineups. Things that matter to you because you're here for the basketball. But if I were to quickly summarize what Pablo was talking about,
maybe later on, I'll jump in and see what my guy Pence are. And if he's worried at all about this latest episode, which does seem to infer that Kawai got even more money than Wachtel Liptin had reported in their 36-page summary of their findings. This is basically centered around what they think could be conspiracy to commit security frauds. Security fraud. This is involving a lot of Gillian Zucker talk at her relationship with two of the companies, including Boingo Wireless, which her husband, I believe, was involved with. Was that the one? It's hard to keep track of all this. But the three companies initially before aspiration were Boingo Wireless, were dactronics, and were locked in.
And according to Wachtel Liptin's reporting, they got him $18 million. And Pablo did a deep dive where he brought back up that picture from Kawai at Camp Pendleton, signing autographs. And he revealed that that was for Boingo Wireless. He held that information back before, brought to light tonight. And he was paid $672,000 for that meet and greet with the troops, it appears. And they're wondering why he got paid that much for an hour of work. But also, they're adding it up with a little bit of math here. Oh, you can count. Good for you. And then we went to another contract that was signed on the same day for $1.2 million called the Clipper Agreement. And he's saying that's almost the amount around the same time of September of 2022
that Dennis Wong put in about $2 million in Kawai was quarterly being paid $1.75 million by aspiration at that time. So, yeah, it's a little bit messy, it's a little bit complicated, it's a little bit hard to follow. But they're alleging that could be securities fraud going on. Because what was disclosed as one go wireless, I think at some point was being sold. And did they know what was happening behind the scenes with Kawai? And some of these fake consultant agreements going on. These signed endorsement deals. These $1.5 million consulting agreements. Yeah, private equity firm was acquiring Boeing Goireless apparently. And so, would this be something that the SEC might be interested in? And according to SEC former SEC attorneys they spoke to, they said the SEC might wrap this into the Kawai investigation.
If they are investigating these companies, there's a 100% chance a desire to establish the pattern and practice taking place. And they all be asked to testify possibly. They're talking about Balmer, Gillian Zucker, Kawai Leonard. This is analysis from SEC attorneys. Because the public story in the filings doesn't add up to what could have been happening behind the scenes. And therefore, it could be considered securities fraud. One go by the way, one go wireless. If you read the Wok Tail Lipton report, they were cooperating at first with the investigation. And then at one point they cut off contact. There's also a statue of limitations here for the securities fraud. And they think because, well, this took place in September of 2022 with this last payment. That they got another year here to go after them for this.
Some of it felt like rehash. Some of it didn't feel that worthy of an hour episode. But we'll see what happens. I don't know where this goes next. And I don't want to speculate obviously what I'd like to do. Which is something we weren't able to deflect with much before. Because there wasn't much else going on. Is actually talk about some basketball here. So as once again, forget to put in the show rundown. What this episode is going to be about. I just dropped in training camp there. Because there's a lot to get to. There's also Brian Winhorst on the hoop collective. Talking today about what occurred yesterday at Clippers Media Day. There's also Jason Timp. Tip, tip, tip.
How do you say it? I like him. He's a really good analyst. He talked about the Clippers. Maybe we'll play some of that sound for you. So I've been gathering some sound and trying to look up everything that we get Clipper Nation excited today. As we do have free season on Sunday in Hawaii. Clippers taken on the Golden State Warriors. So there is a real reason here not to just dodge everything that Poplar was talking about. But there's a real reason to focus on basketball. And remember, Adam Silver said the discipline is final. So. He's evening commissioner. I don't think he could go after the Clippers anymore. Of course he could. But he'd be going back on his word with the discipline is final. Is there a double jeopardy thing here? I don't know. Okay.
That was a lot. You can watch the episode yourself. And maybe I'll bring up Pennsaw because I know he's going hard into it tonight on his channel in a little bit here. Maybe I should just do it now. Get it out of the way. Get it all out of the way. See on now. My guy, Pennsaw, basketball. Did he go live yet? No, he didn't. If he does later, maybe we'll get to him. But I really, really, would like to talk some basketball here. In fact, there were some great news. I'm going to cleanse the palette right now, guys. There is something to be extremely excited about. I don't get excited. I want to get excited here. Okay. I am as excited as Al Michaels and Basekeball. You're excited. Feel these nipples. Okay, that was Bob Costas, actually.
This came from Joey Lynn, our Chustrey reporter out there, independent Clippers reporter, who you should be following. And he had this shot for everyone to see. And this is the best thing I have seen in months. Outside of Transformers 1986, the movie, which I finally got to see on the big screen. Oh, what are we going to do now? Clures the Odyssey. Easily. Easily. And I saw in the back rooms last night, which was pretty good. I even liked that more than the Odyssey. So, check this ish out. This happened today. Joey Lynn, make sure to follow him. Make sure to subscribe. He does fantastic work. I don't know how many beat reporters we got out there. But I know Joey Lynn was there today. And I know Yannick Conan, Neaterhouser, did this. Woo!
Get up, Conan. Get up, Conan. Get up, Conan. Get up, Conan. Get up, Conan. Get up, Conan. Get up, Conan. Get up, Conan. How about that? Yannick's showing off the hops. Now, went through it with a fine tooth comb. It's a pruder film, this alley-oop. They said he was going to be doing court work soon. And soon, I guess, meant the next day he'd be getting on the floor. This may be the first alley-oop he has caught since the Liz Frank injury. Jump's off two feet. Using the right foot. That was the damage one. When he does land, it's on the left foot initially. But then the right foot comes down. Left foot. Right foot. You good? I'm good. Haha. I love seeing this. One more time. Conan.
Conan. What is best in life? Crush your enemies. See them driven before you. And they had an amundation of their women. That is good. Are we happy? Are we feeling better? That Pablo episode was so five minutes ago. Who wants to talk about that? We got Yannick, Conan in the interhouse. They're catching an alley-oop. I am encouraged and excited. Very much so. It sounded like they were super encouraged or super positive about his recovery. And maybe, guys, the fact that we saw that today from... Conan. That might mean... My December timeline was overly cautious. Maybe. Maybe there's a chance that he comes back in November. Maybe he only misses the first 15 games.
Wouldn't that be big for this team? Mio, like me, is dangerously high on Yannick. Do you want to get high? Dangerously high on Yannick. He was smoking too much marijuana. High on our own supply with Yannick here. Her own player. I am good with it. That's what I need. You want to cook crystal meth? I don't know about that. But Yannick is enough. Yannick is enough. Summer high on life. Summer high on Yannick. Summer is high as he jumped there. He pushed it a little bit, brought it back a little bit. That's what I needed. Thank you, Jesus. It's been a long time since we've had anything positive. Should I play it one more time? Should I play it one more time? Why not? I'm too hyped.
Look at this, man. Look at... He's looking at the rim now. So he could just take it from here to here. He's going to bring it back a little bit. Ooh! There it is now. Boom! Sonic Boom! Can I get a Yannick Boom in this mother effort? Sonic Boom! Let's see, let's see, let's see. Let's time that up Adam. Come on. Sonic Boom! I can do better than that. I can do better. Sonic Boom! There we go. There we go. I'm going to do it. I'm going to do it. I'm going to do it. There we go. There we go. There we go. Alright. Alright. Basketball. The thing we're all here for. What we actually care about. Ray, thank you for the super chat. Things we also care about. Where's my money, bitch? That's not what I was saying to you. It's a stupid sound drop.
He's probably not jumping 100%. Yeah, he's probably holding back a little bit. There's probably more in the tank. But he did cock it back. He did. I hate the lakers. That's not what I was looking for. That's what I was looking for. Alright. Keaton Wawler shooting threes. Where was that clip from? Was that from Joey Lin? Who had that? Okay, while I look for that. What I could do here. I was looking for that. What I could do here. Is bring up Coach Lewet training camp. Why not? Because we didn't get to hear enough about actual basketball from Coach Lew yesterday, I would say. You know, there were some questions because of the scandal and everything that weren't asked. Well, looks like the Clippers YouTube side is fully operational and helping us out. And they put up these interviews, I mean pretty quickly.
Very quickly. I'm appreciative of getting these interviews as fast as they were uploaded. Let's start with Coach Lew. Derrius Garlands was kind of, you know, you had one thing I wanted to hear. But Max Trues, I want you to hear all of that. Coach Lewet were going to absorb all of this together same time. Same time here. Okay. Let's hear from Coach Lewet today. And Honolulu. So I have a stand line. It's been past year, it's going into camp. It seems like you've always weathered by design or just went to the roster. It was at a position battle or two in the starting lineup. You obviously have the injuries that you've been dealing with. Right now, do you expect to have any starting lineup with this battle of the training camp? Yeah, Joey Lynn. This was the question I wanted to ask yesterday. But nobody was asking about basketball. And I was way in the back. So I just went home to start podcasting with you guys. Position battles at camp. Yeah, for sure. We got some good players and guys
didn't get the opportunity to compete for a starting job. But it's not really about the best players, about the best fit. Who fits well with their first unit. And so we kind of go from there. But there's going to be some competition. As we expected there to be, I like this from Joey Lynn. My guy, he's too slick with it. He's too smart. Listen to Joey Lynn here. Listen to the follow up. Listen to the probing by the hard hitting reporter. Really try to dig in and try to get this intel for us. He did his best. Yeah, I was blocked. Like I imagine you guys, you know, there is a point for our first year center, but outside of that is a little bit of error. You have any other guys you feel like you can put it a lock and that's blocked right now. I actually got that consider a lot. So he said, Darious and Brooke, they must be locks, right? What else you got? You can put it a lock and that's blocked right now. I actually got that consider a locks. Not yet. Not yet. Let's see how it plays out.
Not yet. Coach Lou, playing it close to the chest, close to the vest still. That's okay. It is day one. I'm fine with that. He's got to look on his face. The Caduette, the Canary. He knows who some of those guys are. Maybe it's Chris Dunn. Maybe it's Rihatcha Moore at the four. I tend to believe he's going to be a lock. And then there might be two open spots. Maybe Keaton Wogler is going to have one of them. We'll see. But props to Joey Lynn for falling up there. Don and off for what more are you sitting in Mark? I'm sorry. I want to know what more than you need some Darious. I'm going to be there for more than you. The Summer Darius had was unbelievable. You know, as a max player, the guy who's been all star in his league, to be in all summer just getting a rehab with Maggie and those guys on his toe, just putting the working on his body, getting strong and lifting every single day.
It's very uncommon, you know, so to see him do that this summer, just showed you his approach on how serious he is about this season. And I was literally standing guys right next to Darious Garland in the back of the room because he came in and was the first interview after Coach Lewin Trent Redden. So he was in the back with me waiting. And I'm standing shoulder to shoulder with him. And I could tell you, it seemed more like he was six, two than six, one. And also much more built than I would have thought. And so he put in that work. What? What? Yeah, he did it. If he wants to grunt in the gym, I'm fine with that. You know, when his body getting stronger, lifting every single day, it's very uncommon, you know, so to see him do that this summer, just showed you his approach on how serious he is about this season. And you know, off the floor, just taking that next step, we're being a leader, owning off the court, like you said, you know, every single day. And we talked about that last night in our meeting. But he's on the right track, you know, so we gotta just keep him going in the right direction.
Because of the kind of laid back nice guy, now that you have, you got to come at some time. This is interesting. Coach Lew talked about this before when they first brought him in, that he can have too much fun out there, that he can be too playful. And he wants him locked in all the time. And I think he's talking about, you know, making the right play, taking the right shot, not going in one mixtape to her with the basketball too much. Which it's not like he hasn't had a ton of success in this league, but you can still improve. And I like that coach Lew is coaching him hard here. Kind of laid back nice guy, now that you have, you got to come at some time. Yeah, at times, you know, just, you know, thanks sometimes when you're so talented in the game, comes easy to you, sometimes you get the mess around a little bit. And just trying to take that out of his game, just, you know, being serious before he ate minutes because he is a dominant player. I really like that. At times, you know, just, you know, thanks sometimes when you're so talented
in the game, comes easy to you, sometimes you get the mess around a little bit. And just trying to take that out of his game, just, you know, being serious before he ate minutes because he is a dominant player. Why so serious? We want him serious for 48 minutes with the 36 he can apply to 38 every night. Not that it's been a major issue, but he's still 26. He's still relatively young. There is room for growth. He has a chance to have a career year with him being 100% healthy. Use your message to the team. One, you know, note excuses. Control to control. We can't control injuries. We can't control a lot of things right now off the court. But with the control coming out playing hard, even seeing a night competing. Another thing that we can play off. An higher point in every night. And also gamer times game ever again, and, you know, neat a little bit for winners of it.
So, the important thing is the playing moment. And the follow up very often that I've seen, you know, There we go. They put it out there, a definitive goal to make the playoffs. You guys may scoff at that. We're not laughing just because Brian Seaman and Ralph Law are going to have that clip there laughing. We're not laughing. Give them an opportunity. Let's see what they got. I liked that they're setting that goal. Now to get to the playoffs, it could mean through the play-in. Of course. But I think that is the right approach to aim for that. Not just, Tayy, we're trying to compete every night and that's our only goal. No. What are you trying to compete for to get to the playoffs? I'm happy about this. We can control coming out playing hard every single night, competing. And our main goal is to make the playoffs. You know, I've got to be honest that every single day is a win game and try to make the playoffs.
No matter who's playing, no matter what people are saying on the outside, we gotta believe it. So, give it. He's got a role. A role is can change. Not about the push of the season. But he's got another role coming to try to count today. So we're starting there. Do you guys believe? That's not going to happen. Well, Chuck's always a hater. I'm not surprised by Charles Barkley saying that. Do you believe? I guarantee it. Are you that strongly about it? I think this team does have a chance. They'd have to do it through the play-in, I think. But I'll tell you why as we move along here. There were some other things that were really encouraging to me about just what stands out about this particular clippers team so far. And maybe why they could be a little bit ahead of schedule in some ways compared to other teams. Season? But he's got another role coming to try to count today. So we're starting there. That's just a point. Not really. I'm going to throw it up. I'm going to get the playoffs with both of you.
Give an English English accent a lot. We really think that confidence. It's something. It's something. It's coming from our players. I think in the work they put in all the confidence. The confidence. Talking about an usual amount of confidence given what has happened over the past year here and given how the brand and Ingrid men's arena. All these things are stacking up against them. But there is confidence. It's coming from our players. I think in the work they put in all summer. You know, our young guys have been here for three months working out now. They the whole summer. And then it's very ready. You can get all 21 guys in gym. Have the day of a labor day to work out and start preparing and getting ready for training camp. And we have this is what I'm talking about right here. This is rare. I know this for a fact. I'm now laid the whole summer. And then it's very ready. You can get all 21 guys in gym. Have the day of a labor day to work out and start preparing and getting ready for training camp. And we had every veteran, every young guy in the gym from day one. So that's the start. I just showed you how serious they are about this season.
And they want to put the work in and be able to be good. We brought you some of those pictures. I think from players united and other player gatherings, player practice, scheduled gatherings. And why not by the team putting it together, the players during the summer. And guys have been together a lot. Like an unusual amount. Like you say, and they're all 21 guys together. That just doesn't happen. And the gym at the day of a labor day to work out and start. Or do you get all 21 guys in gym at the day of a labor day to work out and start preparing and getting ready for training camp. And we had every veteran, every young guy in the gym from day one. So that's the start. I just showed you how serious they are about this season. And they want to put the work in and be able to be good. Here's what I'm going to say. That doesn't guarantee anything. Three, bang! Thank you, Osso Real. We're making the playoffs. Let Ty cook. Finally going to build an authentic identity.
Everyone has an opportunity. Even Ty, let's go. Here's what I'm telling you. By having guys building up chemistry by being together earlier than other teams and getting the head start that way. It doesn't guarantee anything. Talent supersedes all that stuff, of course. And the clippers are going to be at a talent disadvantage most nights. But to give yourself a chance to overcome the talent gap, the deficiency there, or the disparity, I should say, is stuff like this. Just having elite chemistry by being connected out there. By caring about the guy that plays next to you. By wanting to be better in little areas that you haven't shown before because you don't want to let your teammate down. That is what it's going to take for this team. The hole is going to have to be greater than some of its parts. And to do that, you've got to have great chemistry. To have great chemistry, you've got to start training early. The young guys have been the facility for months.
The older guys, they've been together now all for a month training together. Guys have been getting together on and off the court. It at least gives you a chance to surprise people. All the doubters. It can happen, I think. Surprise, motherf***er. It's the only way. So I wouldn't just write that off as a talking point or anything like that. That's meaningful to me. All 21 guys together like that. A month before training camp. After Brandon and that's your perfect procedure. I mean, I know he's still like worth the huge beat that might get early in the party battle. Yeah, by the way, Brandon Ingram said he wanted to play for Coach Lou. Or he's wanted to in the past that he's a big fan of Coach Lou at.
Whether you call it as a introductory press conference or just media day yesterday. But at his first appearance at media day speaking with the media yesterday, one of the things he emphasized. And I don't think he was probed or asked the question or prompted with, you know, what do you know about Coach Lou? He kind of went out of his way, I think, to say that, you know, he loves Coach Lou. Like he's ready to do whatever he asks. He's a guy who's he's wanted to play for. So when people take these little shots and these little jabs, it's like. That's a bunch of crap. Yeah, it is. Like guys do want to play for Coach Lou. Coach Lou isn't perfect. No coach is. But he's still one of the best coaches in the game. And being that player's coach, that guy's respect and want to go to war for is why. You could pull out of a tailspin where you're six and twenty one and get above five hundred because most teams, in fact, every other team that had been that bad before, had never gotten above five hundred. And then be a history.
There's a reason for that. Cook is doing a good job with him on the course. This is workout. You know, individually, but you know, I think as he's getting closer, we got to start to be on the floor and going through the plays. Sam, he likes to, he likes to ball. He's talking about Brandon Ingram here. You tell me based upon the way he's talking about Brandon Ingram here, if you feel like he's closer, then maybe you thought before with his return. You might get early in the body pattern. Yeah, I think Cook is doing a good job with him on the course. This is workout, you know, individually, but you know, I think as he's getting closer, we got to start to be on the floor and going through the plays. Sam, he likes to, he likes to ball. I think I know a few spots, but just kind of like, you know, things that he likes that you can incorporate through our office, and we already have. And so as he gets closer, the guy will ramp it up a little bit. I don't know. The way he was talking about him there, it didn't make me feel like we're going to have to wait till 2027 for Brandon Ingram to return. And remember, there's, and it's about six months less of a recovery time
on the partial torn Achilles. Normal Achilles, it could take a year, it could take a year and a half. If it's only taken a year, or less in some cases, what was Jason Tatum? Then we're talking about, by November, we're at about six months. Maybe he is back by December. And we're not waiting for 2027 or February or, you know, worst case, post-trade deadline, post-all star break and all this. I don't know. The way Coach Lew was talking there, maybe a little bit more confident. And also, he was out there doing some light work today like he has been Brandon Ingram. Doing a good job with him on the court. This is workout, you know, individually, but, you know, I think as he's getting closer, we've got to start getting on the floor and going through the plays. Seeing what he likes, what he likes to ball. I think I know a few spots, but just kind of like, you know, things that he likes
and looking at corporate through our office, that we already have. And so as he gets closer, the guy will ramp it up a little bit. Let me answer this question from this casual. Frank White, why the F would we trade for a guy with a partially torn Achilles? Because the trade wasn't about Brandon Ingram. Brandon Ingram's biggest thing was making the trade work because of the salaries matching, because he makes 40 million a year. And in NBA, you got to make the salaries kind of match up. He's not on a great contract right now. Some view him as a negative asset. It was about getting the three first round picks, one pick swap, the 2031 and 2033. I'm sorry if you didn't realize that that was the main part of the deal. It's about the picks. This is not hard. Anybody that thought this was about Brandon Ingram and getting him was greatly misinformed or does not watch a lot of ball or hasn't watched this show at all. I have no idea why anyone would think that Brandon Ingram was the centerpiece of the deal.
The centerpiece is really the 2031 and the 2033 first round picks. And maybe the reason they got that and the 2027 pick swap is because Brandon Ingram is on a partially torn Achilles. See, the Raptors were likely trying to get off of that contract. Brandon Ingram is not viewed positively by a lot of front offices in this league. When you look at the advanced analytics and the numbers, and does what he do impact winning enough? For instance, what I've been bringing up for months is that the Toronto Raptors were actually a minus on the floor with him this past year net rating wise. They were a minus, a team that finished sixth in the Eastern Conference. So, it's not the end of the world. It sucks that he's hurt. It's not great.
But it does also not the end of the world. I want to come back healthy because I think he can help this team. Because I think with the team like this, he can help raise their floor. But if you think just to make this clear, because I think a lot of people are going, what were the clippers thinking? How did they not know this? Of course they knew this. They had his medicals. They didn't care enough to nix the trade because it wasn't about Brandon Ingram. It was about the picks. That's why. But I hope he comes back healthy and I hope he does impact winning for this team. And I think that's something he wants to prove. He's about it media day. That he's a winner. You win. As every guy wants to prove, but there's a knock on him that he's not. That is empty numbers.
So just to clear that up, didn't mean to go off on that particular viewer there. But if you thought this trade was about getting Brandon Ingram, that's on you. So he just got asked, are you relatively optimistic it could be an early in the season type return? He's not going to give a timetable. Nobody's going to give a timetable. Brandon Ingram's not giving a timetable. It's not ever smart to do that. I know every fan base gets frustrated with this stuff, but how many teams give timetables? Can depend on the injury. Can depend on the player, but for the most part, it doesn't happen. Having training camp here in Hawaii this week, what's that mean for you guys and kind of what do you most excited about? The beach, the weather, and it's been beautiful. I know they had from storms or whatever the last week or so.
So we're kind of scared about how it's going to be. But we landed yesterday a beautiful sunny day. Today a beautiful sunny day. That's what Hawaii is all about. We're going to be able to bring people around. So it's fun to see us. They went first landed. You're going to be able to take some of your feet. You're going to expect anything for feet. To be a very good player. He's showing it in college last year. And I think expectation for Keaton. To be a very good player. He's showing it in college last year. And I think after suddenly, he saw some things he needed to work on for the NBA level to get better. And he's going to get a lot of opportunities. So we got to let him make some mistakes and grow. But he's very smart. He picks things up very well. And he's very coachable. So I'm feel good about that. Once again, he stresses. He's going to make a lot of mistakes. He's going to get a lot of opportunities though. You know, I saw somebody in the chat. And this guy is a known hater. So I wasn't surprised by this. SDSY is something.
And he was saying like, we know Coach Lewis track record with young players. And it's like, no, we don't. No, we don't. Not for this situation. We do not know his track record with a top five pick on a team that isn't contending for a championship. You know Coach Lewis track record with young guys that are taking late in the first round or in the second round on teams that are trying to compete for a championship and how little they may play at times. That's not the same thing. That's not the same situation. You have to apply some context to this now. They're in this transitional phase. They know they're not contending for a championship. You can't compare that to how Coach Lewis used young guys on veteran teams that were trying to win it all. That makes no sense. I have no idea. Well, I do. People just want to hate. And so they frame things in such a way where they discard all context.
Like I just mentioned, the difference is in where the clippers are this year and where they've been in past years. And not just that, but this is a top five pick versus what they've been working with before. It's not the same thing. There are no analogies to this. I am a little hungry. How'd you know? Give me a chicken salad with some waffle fries. I'm just not here for the BS. That's an easy point to refute. Well, we know Coach Lewis and how he uses young guys. He doesn't like young guys. I don't know. He didn't play young guys much. That were late draft picks for championship teams. And even that, even with that, I could say Kobe Sanders started 16 games last year as a rookie as a late draft pick. So when guys actually show something and prove something, he can play them.
I know you're going to say, oh, because of injuries. No, they still had other guys that could have gone to more. And he went to him. So I'm not here in that. In your back in the night, he said, drop 36 against Daniel and the Lambo Classic. Can you say that louder, please? Drop 36. What did it feel like coming back and never bringing an ending when you're here as a positive thing? It feels good. Like I said, it was a long time ago playing against helicopter and Anthony Carter. He dropped 37 for Nebraska in a game in Hawaii. You know, and so having a chance to play in that tournament against Virginia, I think it was Curtis Staples and Donald Hannes. Those were the good old days. I'm going to actually play, you know, and so just coming back now 20, 30 years later, Miss Unbelievable. So I'm happy to be back. I love Hawaii. It's a great place to be. So I got that point. Talk a little about the relationship between the cutters and the university boy to be able to use their facilities and be here this week and how you guys do the campus.
I'm going to address something else here. Dio Capitan said, I'm disappointed they didn't disclose BI's injury to us if they're trying to regain our trust. I think that's fair criticism. I also think it's fair to point out that they may have won to do it at media day so they could actually field questions on it and talk about it there. And because the trade only went through officially about two weeks before media day, that made some sense. But I can also understand if you're frustrated by that. And I'm not going to push back that hard on it. I'm just going to say there is somewhat of an explanation you could look towards with that and why they would wait till media day so they could take questions and clarify things about it. And not just have a press release which probably would have freaked people out even more. Because they wanted to talk about partially torn. It's not the same thing. It was done during the same surgery he got with the Bonesburg.
I'm just throwing that out there. Yeah, it's been a great partnership. They opened the door for us and open arms and took us in, whatever we need, facilities, training rooms, where to go, where to eat. And I'm just been a great partnership so I'm happy that we have. I'm a father of this nice to be over here, given both going on. Sometimes it's nice to get away. And the things that we're going through right now, like I said, our staff. I think our final office is returning to March. You've been great. The new chairman, John Gibson has been great. So let's collectively, like you said, we got to keep the vibes positive. We got to keep the guys positive. I think overall we've done a good job with that. I don't agree with this. I don't agree with this. Honest Convose said, let's agree. People just want to hate on Coach Lou, but I think you can also admit that you're always defensive on his behalf without all the facts and times as well.
Let's be honest here. What about when I was the one that brought up? First of all, I brought up the Marcus Moore stuff in 2020, 2023 all the time, with him playing Marcus Moore's too much. I brought it up. And I said it was confounding. And I said, I have no explanation for this. So it's like, you don't know my track record of what I have said about Coach Lou in the past, and when I've critiqued him. I critiqued him when I think it's fair to. I critiqued not having the right guys into rebound at the end of game four, so Aaron Gordon could put that dunk in. I got the media to ask him about that. So I just think you're speaking in generalities, and I can bring up actual, you know, specific instances of when I have been critical of Coach Lou. I got, I'm critical when I think it's fair to be. It was not, I'm not.
I didn't say, I didn't just say he's the greatest coach of all time in the world. I just said he has blind spots and he has flaws. Like any other coach. So now I'm not just some lackey being defensive on his behalf. That's not the case. Honest Columbo. Everyone talks about how challenging it is to raise kids, but what about protecting them? Outlet covers, kitchen cabinet locks, baby gates, where do you even start? Well, protecting your home in auto is a great place to start. Progressive offers customized cover adoptions so you can be sure you have the right coverage. They're basically the baby gates of insurance. Get a quote at progressive.com. Progressive casualty insurance company affiliates another insurers and not available in all states. I got to think that identity of the city, the half house, the name. Okay, here's another good question.
The identity of this team, something else I want to watch. City, the half house, the name. Clan hard every single night. Like we definitely got to give more perspective on the other team by crashing. Charging teams over, but our mentality of we got to play hard to feed every single night and share the basketball. And so if we do those things, we'll put on certain position in the wing game. Play hard every night. I'm just going to say, you know, it's a great place to play hard every single night. I'm going to have to give more perspective on the other team by crashing. Charging teams over, but our mentality of we got to play hard to feed every single night and share the basketball. And so if we do those things, we'll put on certain position in the wing game. He's talking about crashing. Turning teams over. Crash is going to be a challenge. They don't look like a good rebounding team at all on paper. In fact, they look like a bottom five rebounding team. So we'll see. They're going to have to prove that one.
Can they create some turnovers? I think they can. But that is the mindset you have to have. We're going to outscrap. We're going to outwork everybody. Because you catch teams slipping over an 82 game season. Especially more talented teams will rely on that talent. And they're not giving maximum effort all the time. But if you are, even if you're not as talented, you can even the playing field that way. That's the formula. That's what they have to do. It's done factor. Dad, what do you need? I'm on the top. Exactly. But last year, oh my big part about turn around was six and one of my last shows. Katie, like playing 82 games. Time mark. Chris does. Just the game. Hey, go smile. I'm going to play with you. Cat jumped on the history play machine. I'm on the top. Exactly. We brought last year, oh my big part about turn around was six and one of my last shows.
Katie, like playing 82 games. I always play over that 30 minute mark. But it was game we had a play, 37, 38 minutes because the way he blocked our team. And he's like a eight talks. They're not really vocal. He's probably acting leading. What he does on the floor. How he plays, how he specifies for all offense to guard the best player in a single night. When he says this, it makes me think that Chris done is definitely going to be one of the starter still. Please. How he specifies for all offense to guard the best player in a single night. How he sacrifices, all offense, to guard the best player every single night. He plays so hard. Coach Lutok's about I don't want to play more than 30 minutes because his 30 minutes aren't like anybody else has played on the title. like anybody else is 30 minutes with how much movement he has out there and how hard he is working Chris done. I think it's very likely he's gonna be starting next to Dearest Garland. You know like say he talks whatever he's not really a vocal leader he's more of an acting leader you know what he does on the floor how he plays how he's sacrificing all this to guard the best friend
a single night and what he means is a winner you know so he's huge for us and so like I said hopefully he can do about what he did in the actually for you I think I'll be by committee. I think I'll be by committee. Leaders by committee. I think I'll be by committee. I think I'll be by committee. You know Brad, you got Dearest, Katie, Bia, Max, I think you're gonna work you know you know so I think our older guy we have to take take the will on this. How do you feel about home being your former? I love it. My guy. I'm a guy with a new court side reporter. Oh, my own suit. Thank you. All right. We'll get to Dearest Garland here in a little bit and here from him. Somebody said what are you talking about? Clearly they wanted to move B.I. because of the medicals. We know this now. No. It's to make the money work and they don't like that contract. They wanted to get Kauai to be his replacement and he's like a souped up high level version, whole of fame version of Brandon Ingram with
where he plays on the court and of course that was going to be the contract they were going to use the only other guy they could use is RJ Barrett but then they still have to include somebody else outside of Grady Dick to make the money work. It wasn't because B.I. got hurt that were like oh we have to get out of this guy for sure. The priority was them getting Kauai and to do that you have to give up salary you have to make salaries match. He's saying it was in a response to a comment about RJ. Well RJ has an expiring so you'd rather hold on to the guy with the expiring even though he's looking for an extension with them. I don't know if he's gonna get it but Brandon Ingram has two more years at forty and forty one million. Like it's not a great contract. Ask anyone around the league. When Messiah Jerry signed that a lot of people were like whoa I don't know about this. Where's my money bitch? I don't know if that's
the contract you want to give Brandon Ingram. So it's looked at as a negative asset. It's not about they knew about the injury and that's why they wanted to get rid of him. That may have been a small part but that was not close to the main reasons. All right. Raptors champs in here. It's at Faxx. I don't know if he knows this show or if you just agrees with what I'm saying there. There's a fact. I don't know whether you know or not. Faxx. All right. I want you to hear from uh Derrius Garland with one question that he answered from I think Joey Lynn here and it's a good one and then we'll get to Max True so we didn't hear from immediate day. So this is about if the Clippers can shock some people this year. Listen to this from Derrius Garland. I mean I think we're going to shock a lot of people. I think our scene is going to be
surprising to a lot of people. I think we have a really good chemistry so far. We haven't even hit the season yet so I think that's going to take us over a little bit. So that chemistry again guys getting together guys working out and an unusual amount of guys working out together. They're all 21. That's going to take us over a little bit since everybody's been in the gym for at least two to three months now. So we've been around each other got the camaraderie going and just the competitive spirit's going to come out of us naturally so we got a lot of competitors. Got a lot of dogs in this team that can really go and uh with the brains of T-Lew and our coaches and if I think they're going to take us over the top of the screen or so. It's too big a sign I think it's going to be a fresh a breath there for all of us especially after the season that we had last year. So yeah we definitely decided for this couple of upcoming season. So they got a lot of dogs on this team. She talking about KD. Chris down there.
BI got them to the playoffs so how is it a negative asset? Like he's a decent floor razor in the regular season. It's because of his contract. Look how many shots he takes to get his points. He's just not the most efficient guy. Like he was a negative net rating last season with a playoff team. Like I don't know how you can argue against that go look at the on-off numbers with him. Yeah Raptor's champ said trust me BI helped and hurt our team. He's one of those players where it's like how much is he impacting he's getting his numbers but how much is he impacting winning actually. I'm not so sure. All right we'll hear from Max Struz here since we didn't get to hear from him yesterday. They had him today at training camp in Hawaii. Let me get that for you.
Oh wait a second. I got to play it don't I? That's a pretty man. That's a pretty man. Well we're gonna be using that way too much. Awesome. Off to a good start. Yeah. Yeah. Different situation where he needs a base leader. I stay. Yeah no maybe he's about it. That's for sure. There's going to be a lot riding on DG shoulders but we're all here to support him and pushing through that and he's capable of it. He's the hell of a basketball player and I think he's talking about DG as a leader. He's battled some tough injuries and and been through a lot and is short spanning the league and I'm really excited to see him for somebody is still using fuel goal percentage to only look at effective fuel goal. Like he did have a decent year last year. I'm not arguing that. He had one of his better years. He also has been injury prone over the last five years he's played I think over 60 games once and he's typically not the most efficient guy.
He had a decent year last year but if you think just getting numbers is meaningful then like well Cam Thomas as he founded team yet. What are we talking about? The year is 2026. Just thinking scoring leads to winning. It's not enough to look at traditional numbers. It's not that simple guys that get their numbers all the time. I'm not saying he had a bad year. He was a reserve all star all that but overall there is a lot of question marks around how much he impacts winning which is probably why he said that yesterday at media day saying he wants to improve he's a winner. Well he helped me and get a full look at DG this season.
DG he has the ability to control the whole room by the way he acts as attitude the way he controls himself every single day. People feed off of it and he knows that and he's been carrying himself and he's already taking steps from what I was with him in Cleveland in a positive direction so I'm proud of him for that and he's going to keep learning and keeping him better. I like your hat by the way. What are what hat Joey Liz were and I should text him. You're going to help add to that. There is just saying that you guys expect a shot to people this season just get where the expectations are. One how do you plan to fit into that and outside of her you can be part of a rooting that has that mindset. Yeah I mean I've been part of winning everywhere I've gone that's kind of all I've been around so I have a lot of experience in that and know what it takes to win in this league and I'm just going to bring that on a daily basis. It's the way you carry yourself it's the way you practice it's the way you wake up every single day and I'm just going to try to instill that in the group and we got a lot of guys that are ready to compete this season and play very hard and that's one of the hardest things to do in the NBA is
find a group of guys are going to play hard consistently and I think we have that in this room. And is that the idea? I like hearing that. I hear that you guys want to portray everything again. I know any of this game is a lot of season. Yeah I'm telling you that now it's a pretty season foundation. That was the one. Yeah absolutely it starts today. As you can see it practice doesn't start for another 35 minutes. We got guys in here working and being here early and dedicated to it. So the group's been inspired. We've been together all month. A lot of guys chose to be in California for the last month. You also don't find that a lot in the NBA. So we've already got some continuity and looking to get out to earn early start this season. Once again it goes back to building up that chemistry. How do you overcome less talent build up the chemistry? Dude doesn't realize how much better the Raptor has gotten so many different areas last season. Hey guy they were trashed in 2025. He played 77 games this year. So he's played like over 60 games like once
the last five years. Do you not realize how much better they got in all those different areas? Yeah. Kawaii Miss games. Is this a Raptor's fan power 35? Like Kawaii Miss games and missing games in the West is death and starting 621 it wasn't all on Kawaii or anything like that. But there's a lot of context to this. I thought overall Maxter was pretty good in the playoffs but he's still in the plate 12 games in the regular season. He still wasn't himself. He was coming off the Jones fracture yet his own foot issue. Yes. But maybe somebody can help out power 35 and explain to him why Brandon Ingraham getting 40 million dollars is viewed as a negative asset. I can't help with that one. I'm sorry.
If I got to explain that I just got to hit the ignore button. I see a point. I see a point. I see a point. I see a point. I see a point. I see a point. All the stuff out there and over the left. Why do you think that a car for the club is as high? None of that stuff has anything to do with what we're doing on the court. He's there on the off the court distractions, the scandal, everything. I love this answer from Maxter's. I love everything from this interview about Maxter's. I'm ready to get a Maxter's jersey after listening to this guy. It's not just... I mean he is showing leadership here. He is showing what you want from your role players. This is the mentality right here. None of that stuff has anything to do with what we're doing on the court. We're all just trying to be the best basketball players. We can be in the best team we can be and we're not going to let anything outside environment control that. We're going to control what we can control in this court and be
the most together team and play harder on a nightly basis and see what happens. What does that mean for you and the team to be in Hawaii at the time? I don't know if you think I'm going to recognize what you do. Yeah, this place is beautiful. I'm waking up and seeing the water in the morning, seeing the people here that are excited to have us. It's been a nice change of pace. It's pretty cool out here and I'm just excited to get it getting underway. Now Power 35 is saying playing Kauai 115 million is stupidity as well. You're admitting paying Brandon Ingram that much is too much. It's not too much to pay Kauai this when what he's going to do for fanship, the returning hero, the conquering hero, the guy who won you your early championship. Because Kauai played like a top 10 player in the league last year, Brandon Ingram was not close to that. Kauai might be able to get them over the top. Brandon Ingram is not anything that gets them close enough to a championship. Of course, you're going to pay
that and the fact that he already won them one. So it's all gravy. It doesn't matter. They can lose. He's still a hero for them. That's how it's always going to be with Kauai and Toronto. That's I'm sure part of the reason he wanted to go there and the 115 million. Where's my money, bitch? I don't know how some people don't get it. It's not clocking for you, bro. It's not that hard. Talk about the balance of that right? I don't see here why you're beautiful place, but you guys have some work to do. Yeah. Training and very good season. Talk about that balance when it comes to Yeah, and now we know we're here for as beautiful as it is here. It's also beautiful in LA. So like this is not the new for us. We know what's important. We know it's at stake and that's to get better on the basketball court and get better as a group and that's what we're here to do. I kind of just identifying responsibilities roles. Ties message last night. I kind of just identifying responsibilities roles and playing your role and being the best
thing you could be. Getting off to a hot start and that started a month ago. After Labor Day being in California together and starting to build that continuity and then it starts here again, building that and once we get through these preseason games, see where we lie and then get off and hit the ground run. Now this guy is saying Kauai is always injured. Has Kauai actually played more games the last five years than Brandon Ingram? Oh, and by the way, when Kauai is healthy, he's a much better player than Brandon Ingram. So it's just a really dumb argument like all the way around power 35, you're powering down, you're making people dumber. Let's stop. Please. Let's stop. It's bad. Is this maybe it's actually Ryan from the discord? It sounds very similar to his logic out there. I'm just going to hit the ignore because of course Kauai is the much better player than Brandon Ingram and of course the team that he already gave a championship to is happy to give him 115 million.
They're going to make way more than that with all the merch and all they're going to sell with having Kauai back in Toronto. It is a business. And oh yeah, when he's healthy, plays like a top five player a lot of the time. So yeah, it's not it's not computing for some people. I don't understand. It's not that hard. Once we get through these preseason games, see where we lie and then get off and hit the ground run. There you said, uh, motto, kind of like a fresh friend here. Is that kind of how you feel your motto headed into the season or what's made for? Yeah, I mean, it's a completely new situation for me also. So it is a fresh air. It's a it's a new environment. It's a new situation that I've never been in before. So I'm excited to bring my experience, what I've had and what I've learned in this league to this team and help it be the best team possible. All right, there's Yuki. You guys can watch that interview as well. It's up on the Clippers YouTube account. But I just want to go through those from training camp today. Uh, what else do I got for you? I got a lot.
There's almost too much. It's like an overflow of information. It's the fire hose of information because we're back to basketball are very, very close. Oh, I saw this. So somebody brought up that, uh, maybe Bob's taller than Yonic. And I'm starting to think that might be the case. I mean, you could still kind of tell there. I think Bob might be taller. Look at where his shoulders are. Look at this. I think Bob Miller's taller than Yonic. What do you guys think? I don't know. I think he might be. He was 6, 10 and a half at the combine. And that's without shoes on. So let me see if I can find what Yonic measured at at the combine. Uh, combine height. What did he get measured at? So he got measured at 6 feet, 11 and a quarter
inches without shoes. So at the combine with the same measurement variables, shoes off at the NBA combine. I mean, he did measure, let's see, three-fourths of an inch taller, three-quarters of an inch taller. I don't know why he looks shorter there. It's honestly kind of strange. Yeah, that's kind of funny to me. People still hating on Kauai in here. I got to stop with that guy. What else do I got? What else do I got? I don't know what you guys think about that. Is Bob on Miller taller? And the picture he looks taller. It could just be the camera where it is. The placement of it is kind of angled more towards his side. I don't know.
His hair is definitely longer. You guys wouldn't mind Bob on Brooklyn the core together. Am I missing something? That's Bob on Miller, right? And he doesn't look as thin either. Wait a second. It's not Jamari and Sharp. But yeah, I don't know. Heightgate here. We can move on. I want to hear from, I didn't listen to this yet, but Jason Timp and his analysis on the Clippers and where they're at. Speaking of the Clippers. Oh, oh, is that right, Jason? I think this guy is great. I think he does fantastic analysis. I think I want to hear from him, even if he's hating a little bit. Lost Nick Batum, Bogdan Bagnanovic, John Collins, Kauai Leonard and Ben Mathran. At a great
day, I kind of rough season last year, shop below 30% on catching shoot threes. Rui Hatchemura again, dead eye, three point shooter. If he's open, like literally one of the best standstill three point shooters in the NBA, Brandon Ingram, a player I really believed in when he was at his peak, but just has repeatedly been disappointing since then. And we're a long way removed from that first round series in 2022 against the suns where he looks so good. Max Truus, that's kind of where I was. Within that time frame, I was like, what about getting Brandon Ingram? I was thinking that in 2024, I was still like, you know, he had that one all star season with the Pelicans. And then he had that big series against Phoenix. And I was thinking about trying to make a play for him then. But I have kind of soured a little bit because it's just impact on winning. But hey, if he comes back healthy and he's a great clipper, you know, I'm going to be rooting for him, of course. And I do like his his low monotone voice. I imagine a conversation between Brandon Ingram and Derek Jones Jr.
Would anybody be able to hear that? To cypher with their sand. They're so laid back into when they talk. I love it. Their voices are so low. I had his peak, but just has repeatedly been disappointing since then. And we're a long way removed from that first round series in 2022 against the suns where he looks so good. Max Truus, a role player that I think is just fine. The classic kind of guy that if he's like your sixth starter, you're pretty happy with him. And then Keaton Vogueley, a guard in the draft who didn't look super great in summer league, but I think has some ability to have success around other good players, which we'll talk about. It was pretty good after the first game. I mean, about here in a minute. Talk to me how it looks bleak for Warriors fans. This is way worse. Nothing resembling a foundational prospect. Like I like Keaton Vogueley, but he doesn't have any traits to be pretty popular. I was saying Vogueley like his German. What is he doing here? Playing a foundational prospect. Like I like Keaton Vogueley, but he doesn't have any trait that he brings the table that makes him a foundational level prospect. I like Neeter Houser. Is that part of his heritage? I've never heard Vogueley. Dirt Davisky. I hadn't heard that before.
He says Vogueley doesn't have any trait that he brings the table that makes him a foundational level prospect. I like Neeter Houser. It's shown a lot of potential as like a screen and roll thread as a block in like two and a half shots per 36 minutes. So far in his MBA career. I think getting him to the point where he's starting sooner than later, I think would be for the best. I wonder if they'll start broke and then bring him off the bench, but I think he's a legitimate center prospect in this league, but he's not. Got to get him back foundational by any means. Jason, I don't know if you've seen what we've seen with Kodan so far. A lot of people think he is foundational. He's a legitimate center prospect in this league, but he's not foundational by any means. I like Kobe Sanders. It's turned into like a really solid versatile wing player in this league, but again, not a foundational level prospect. So you don't have a foundational prospect. The top end talent. We don't know that. We don't know that. Vogueley was picked fit. So if he averaged 30 and several league, you would say he is a foundational
prospect. I'm not putting that much into summer. Like, Wobler could definitely be that guy. Again, I like Darius Garland when he's healthy. I'm guys know I believed in Brandon England ceiling, but there's nothing there really with the top tier talent. And then you have no draft picks for the next decade, right? So like, I wonder not sure either. They have four picks in the next seven years. They don't have any. They can trade right now. They got a 27 swap, a 29 swap, a 2031 unprotected first round pick a 2033 unprotected first round pick from the Raptors. The hell's going on. I like Jason a lot more before this. I feel the conflict within you. Let go of your hate. If the goal here is to lean into the vets early in the year and then just try to basically pump up their trade value. And unfortunately a lot of those vets are injured. Lean into the vets early in the year and then just try to basically pump up their trade value and then trade them to try to recruit as much draft compensation as they can in the first half of the season. Then you know, last half of the season, it's just straight up like Garland and
Wagner and Sanders and Rui and Neater house are. He said, Bob. He said, Bob. Is the can in the first half of the season. Then you know, last half of the season, it's just straight up like Garland and Wagner and saying, Bob, now it's Wagner. It's just straight up like Garland and Wagner and Sanders and Rui and Neater house are and like just leaning in on I'm sorry, this is offensive. We did not do the wishing trio episode for the schedule release to get this. And Wagner and Sanders and Rui and Neater house are and like just leaning in on your young players for the rest of the season. Because I think they can get some draft compensation. Like I don't know if they can get anything for Ingram. Again, I just don't know if you can rehab his value at this point. G where'd that guy go? Where'd that guy go? What was his name? Power, whatever. G somebody else knows wall power 35. Though he doesn't know how to pronounce
Walgler, but he does know about Brandon Ingram and why that's viewed as a negative contract. Struces a guy, I think they can pump up and trade and at least get a couple of second round picks for it. If there's a team out there that needs a guy that can guard on the perimeter and knock down a three. Rui potentially just because his contract is somewhat favorable, if he comes out and he just shoots the shit out of the basketball again, which I think he will. Oh, oh, yes. Rui's contract, guys. It's not just 14 million this year. Where's my money, bitch? It is 14 million on a team option for next year. Do you know how much I make a year? You have control over Rui for making 28 million over two years. That is great, great value. Maybe that was money. Tell me that wasn't money. Yeah. Somebody will want to trade for. Rick Jones Jr. Christon are the big ones. I think Derek Jones and Christon could both. Derek Jones in particular, I think, is a guy that if he comes out healthy and he shoots the
three well for two months. If we're sitting in late November and Derek Jones is looking super athletic on the perimeter defending and is hitting 39% of his threes, I think you could get a first round pick for Derek Jones because he's just such a valuable archetype of player. Chris Agree, Agree, spot on. Get a first round pick for Derek Jones because he's just such a valuable archetype of player. Chris done less so, but you might be able to get a second or two out of him. Yeah, he's pronouncing this is exactly it. Wogler, like Keaton is related to Franz Wagner. English motherfucker. Do you speak it? He's not a Wagner twin or a Wagner brother. He's not Moe, he's not Franz. What are we doing? The way that he talks, whack. It's okay. He'll get it right once he starts balling. It's a valuable archetype of player. Chris done less so, but you might be able to get a second
or two out of him. I think you could definitely get two seconds. Type of player. Chris done less so, but you might be able to get a second or two out of him. Bradley, I don't think you're going to get much for Bradley, but if you could at least turn, if you could turn Derek Jones, Chris done and Max Truce and at least those three guys, maybe one more guy into three seconds in a first, I think that would be a huge win. I think they should pump those guys up early in the year, let them all play. Lean heavy on the vets. You'll be a different basketball team. Malene on them. Then when you get to the second half of the season, after you've uploaded those guys for draft compensation, lean in on the young players as much as possible. They do have a chance to be fun. Derry's Garland, when he's healthy, is still one of the better offensive engines in the league. Why? Because he gets a ton of dribble penetration with his foot speed and he's a great passer when he gets there and he can shoot the three really well. I'm a big believer in Garland when he's healthy. I just can never stay healthy. That's been the issue. Then you have plenty of play finishing. Neeter Howzer was very good as a roll man last year,
made about two-thirds of his shots out of roll man situations. A Ruby Atchamer, again, never going to miss an open three. Next, Truce is a guy that can knock down three drive and close out. Kobe Sanders shot over 40% from three last year. Keaton Vogler is a very good advantage score. He did it again. He did it again. Close out. Kobe Sanders shot over 40% from three last year. Keaton Vogler is a very good advantage score if you can get him against the closeout. They've got enough to be fun. They've got the ability to try to flip some of these vets for picks. Certainly nothing to get super excited about. I've caught some crap for this over the years and I know it sounds ridiculous because of the illegal shit they were doing. In terms of the basketball people, forget about Balmer, forget about Uncle Dennis, but just think about Tyleu and the front office and the rest of the coaching staff and just the types of players they have. I love the basketball culture with the Clippers. I think that it's strong and I think that that's
the one thing to cling to if you're a Clippers fan is we have a strong basketball culture. We are going to find a way to play likeable basketball and yes, we're operating at a huge disadvantage, but we're going to claw our way out of this thing. Hey, maybe two years from now, Adam Silver comes out and goes, thank you guys for cooperating. Here's a couple of your first round picks back. All right, two more. Ball Noir, smart man. We'll let the Keaton-Wabler power this go. It's in the past. I can't pronounce is it Timp? Like I'm making the same mistake. Jason Timp, so we both have the same issue. He's forgiven. Thousand apologies, actually. This is on me after the praise he sent the Clippers way for basketball culture. Ball Noir, he gets it. They do the best with what they have. Unfortunately, they often have a lot of injuries and some bad luck and no other things. When does the hurting stop? Yeah. Okay. What about the hoop collective today? Do we got that for you?
Brian Wayne Horse and I saw this reporter there at Media Day and I didn't know who it was, but I guess I'm about to find out his name here. I thought he asked some good questions, actually. And they were very well phrased and then Brian Wayne Horse had them on. So I guess he's an ESPN reporter. Let's see. All right, Jamal. Thank you for reporting in. We'll see you down the line. Always good to talk to you. Okay, I was over with the Lakers today. Everybody feeling happy and not a lot going on. But just a few miles away over at the Intuit Dome. My colleague and making his debut appearance on the hoop collective who lives here in Los Angeles. Ben Golliver Ben Ben Golliver Ben Golliver. So much for coming on. Always my pleasure, Brian. You know, long time first time as they say. I don't know what to make of the Clippers. I will just say that for a long time, I really thought the Clippers were a smart organization. I say smart. Like,
they just did things kind of, they did things well. And I'm no longer in that camp. So with that, you went to the Clippers today probably to get a reaction, a formal reaction to the big penalty that was handed down. And instead, you got one long line of injury updates. So why don't we start right there and you can just go through them because they're remarkable. Yeah, no, it was just bad news after bad news after bad news. I think for Clippers fans, you feel for them because they're already, you know, it's like you're kicking them while they're down because they've been dealing with this quiet Leonard investigation and all the sanctions and all the statements from Steve Balmer. You know, are they going to challenge things lately? Are they not? And then you hope you could just have a basketball press conference at media day. And unfortunately, that wasn't the case. So Brandon Ingram, the All Star Ford, they got back in the quiet Leonard trade with the Toronto Raptors, it turns out the heel surgery he had in May, they discovered
well doing that surgery. He had a partially torn Achilles. So they were able to address it during that surgery. But now he's obviously out for a while. They didn't give an exact timeline, but he's not going to be ready to start the season. And he said he'll be participating a little bit in training camp. He's been back on the court just a little bit. But I saw that some shooting some free throws today and why it wasn't much. I certainly not a full go in trade again. But so that's one of where who knows how long that will linger, you know, during a rebuilding season for the Clippers, you know, from there, they're 23. Hold on on that. I'm sorry, I know I asked you to go through them. The way this started came out today on social media and it wasn't implied in your story. But the Clippers knew when they made the trade that Brandon Ingram was recovering from partial torn Achilles. They didn't know shit. I'm glad Winhorse gets it. But most people just took it as an opportunity to dunk on the Clippers. Oh, how dumb they trade for a guy and he's already heard. I saw Bill Simmons tweet about it. It's like, guys,
this was never about Brandon Ingram. It was about the two first round picks. Well, the two unprotected ones in 2031 and 2033. Get up to speed. Pay attention. God. They didn't discover it after the trade. So when they negotiated that trade, as far as I know, unless you know, differently, Ben, the raptors said what the injury was. And even as they waited through the Kauai situation for six weeks or however long it was, they knew they were trading for a player that was recovering from a partially torn Achilles. Is that correct? I will say this. The raptors put out a press release in May about him going under the knife for the heel spur, the bone spur and his heel. They did not mention the Achilles. I do wonder if there could be any repercussions for that. Could somebody get in trouble for that? That was a little bit strange to
me looking back. That report was on MBA.com. I brought it up to you guys recently. Win-win horse came out and said people were forgetting he had surgery in May on his heel. What was not said in that press release was anything regarding him also getting the partial Achilles tear repaired? Something to look at, something to watch for a monitor. That is correct. But the raptors never publicly disclosed this information. So it was a surprise to everybody like us and everybody on media day that the jaws were dropping because he's out there taking his photos. He's posing with the fastball flexing doing all that. Because a hip-a-law or whatever, do they not have to disclose any of it? Why did they just say the heel then? That's kind of interesting. Why say anything? I get some point. We've had this with Kauai in the past where you learned like three
weeks ago Kauai had a cleanup on his right knee. That happened in 2024. I don't know. That's a little sketch to me, little sus, let's kid say. The thing is you do and then Trent Redden who is now the interim president of basketball operations and a kickstool. I mean, they discovered it while they did the heel bone spur surgery. But then they also performed the surgery to repair the partially torn Achilles. Just, yeah, I don't know. Things off with this, you know, this tough break. So we don't know when Brandon Ingram will be back. I will say, Brian, he was in good spirits about everything. It's what a messy summer for him. Multiple months waiting and waiting and he's in limbo. His Kauai going to get his contract voided. Will that impact Brandon Ingram? I thought he put on a brave face, a smiling face to join the Clippers. So that's something maybe better late than never for Clippers fans
when he shows up. Well, let me ask you this. Was it your impression that they discovered it when they actually did the surgery that they didn't know when they went opened up his heel? They didn't know it was torn. It sounded like they discovered it and addressed it during that one surgery. Okay. So imagine you wake up from a surgery and there's like, we got good news and bad news, Brandon. The bad news is when we went in there, your Achilles was partially torn. The good news is we fixed it. Do you remember Ben? Do you remember back in the day? Guys would go in, remember when micro fracture was a thing? Micro fracture was all the rage for a while and it should not have been. And basically what they would do is they would be like a cartilage injury or whatever. And they wouldn't know for sure whether they would have to do micro fracture. They would go in and they would determine we can either fix this or we have to do micro fracture, which is where they would
drill like little teeny holes in your knee and they would like form scar tissue would help it heal. But that's exactly right. I remember doing our portal and that I think in college. Because it was in Vogue and everybody was doing it. Seaweb, Amari, I think Jason Kid had it with good success, but most didn't. Penny, most it took down. Yeah, F micro fracture. If you had micro fracture, you were based out for a year and they didn't always know. So I remember this was like a Maristata Meyer. They went in for an arthroscopic surgery and was like, okay, this is going to be six weeks or a season. And you go under, you know, the anesthesia. And when you wake up, you find out whether you're going to be playing that year or not. So this wasn't quite that dramatic, but imagine like the doctor, the surgeon comes in after it is like, yeah, by the way. So I just, you know, I feel for kind of,
is you're talking about Brandon, like, you know, he's a very wealthy athlete who's making $30 million a year. That said, like that was that's a bummer and a half. Because he already couldn't finish the seven game seros with the gas. He wasn't on the court when the raptors got eliminated. Last season. So sorry, go ahead. No, it's not on that though. One, he said he knew something was wrong, though. Like, and I saw maybe he wasn't fully surprised or blindsided. He said it was bothering him. Well, he said it was bothering him for quite a while last season, even kind of heading up towards the playoffs. And the other thing here is there's not a huge urgency, right? Like, the Clippers aren't trying to be contenders this season. They have not long run away. Right. And Brandon Egrim's got the Flayer option for not this season, but the following season, right? So this seems like one to me where you would try to be patient. The other ones are not, not as dramatic here, Brian, but still 2023. When he talks about, you know, being patient with Brandon Egrim, I mean, that makes a lot of sense. I don't know why they'd rush him. I don't know why he or his agent would feel rushed. They're not contending. It'd be nice to have him back, but
like I said earlier, it's not the end of the world, but he could definitely help. Season they have not long run away. Right. And Brandon Egrim's got the Flayer option for not this season, but the following season, right? So this seems like one to me where you would try to be patient. The other ones are not not as dramatic here, Brian, but still 2023 second round pick, Jordan Miller. He had like a mini breakout last season this summer, horned left rotator cuff, underwent surgery in August will be re-evaluated sometime around February. So, you know, that's basically out to the All-Star break. There are 2025 first-round pick, Center Yonic, Cone and Neeter Hauser, underwent foot surgery in March. He will not be ready for opening night, but apparently he's making good progress. And then finally, you may be shocked here. Bradley Beale, you know, finds himself on the injury report. He underwent hip surgery last season. He's got right knee inflammation that will prevent him from being available to start training camp in Hawaii this week. It didn't sound too serious, but obviously he's had issues
with his knees in the past. And so you just kind of don't know there with Bradley Beale. But as Clippers fans are, you know, wrapping their minds around all the investigation and trying to start the new chapter, they've got four names on the injury list already. And we haven't even started. Yeah. We know. That was a guesstimate by a reporter out there who said they think timeline was this is this is the this is the S I'm talking about. It's like nobody knows when Brandon Ingham's going to be back. Of course, if you want to guess between Thanksgiving and Christmas or mid-Ovmber and Christmas, that's that's giving yourself a lot of room for error. That's a good way to frame it, I guess. If you want to end up looking right, that was one reporter out there. It's not like he has intel or he's taught to Brandon Ingham or his agent or the doctor. It's just I mean, some of the stuff some of this reporting is so bogus to me.
Well, I guess you could say that's good for Keaton Wogler. There are number five overall. I don't know if it's good, but that's the first point I'm at. He's going to get a chance to play. He's going to get minutes. What about the reactions to for Tai Lu and other guys to, you know, we haven't heard, you know, publicly from these guys since the penalty came down. Well, here's what I would say on the investigation and the aftermath. You mentioned earlier how you felt like the Clippers were a smart organization. I think one smart thing that they've done or one thing they've tried to do from emulating other smart franchises is really have a lot of continuity in their front office. Like if you look at the major players here, Steve Balmer buys a team in 2014. Gilean Zucker has worked there since 2014. Lawrence Frank has worked there since 2014. Balmer's only hired two coaches, Doc Rivers and Tai Lu during that entire time period. We're going on 12 years. He didn't even really hire. I mean, Doc was already there when he got there. I'm pretty sure. That's right. He's only had two coaches, right? And you know, Tai Lu got promoted too, right? So it's really been
an in-house thing. And so I guess I'm even their communications people have been there for like seven, eight years, right? What I'm getting to is like Trent Reddett, he's the designated survivor. Like he's like the one guy who's left with all these names and faces that have been very familiar in past years, kind of being out of the picture. And you know, Tai Lu and him tried to put on a brave face. You know, Tai said he had no expectations about what the punishments would be. He says he's faced challenges before with the Clippers. This is just another challenge. And then he said he's loyal to the end to Steve Balmer because everything Balmer's done for him personally and for his community where he grew up. In terms of what Trent Reddett said, he really stuck a lot to the public statements that the Clippers have put out there. He explained a little bit smartly about how their processes might change with Lawrence Frank suspended, you know, and he said there would be too much different. It'll be kind of like business as usual. But in one tell that you know, things are unusual here in the Clippers, there was a slight flood during his opening
remarks and he didn't get the name quite right of the interim governor for the Clippers. And so he had to double that John Gibson and correct himself. But so it just tells you that's one thing that was not as stable is the guy who's acting as the governor. Yeah. Yeah, that's right. But so, you know, you got some new faces. Everybody's tried to make adjustments and make the best. I think of a really tough situation. Yeah. So they're reporting, Ben. I'm going to say something about Trent Reddett. And I've known him for a long time. Look, if you were involved with the 2016 calves, just be honest, I was very close to that team. I spent a lot of time with, I mean, some of these guys are my colleagues at ESPN now. Okay. If you were involved with the 2016 calves, you know, I probably know you pretty well. And Trent and Ty Lue, I didn't the bushes. Because the memes go. I probably know you pretty well. That sounds like a threat. 2016 calves, you know, I probably know you pretty well. And Trent, what do you know?
calves, you know, I probably know you pretty well. And Trent and Ty Lue were part of that team. Trent was Assistant General Manager. And also, what I'll say about Trent is that he is absolutely a realist. Trust me. He understands everything that goes on. He's not somebody who doesn't understand all sides of a situation. He understands sometimes there's hard things to be done. And he's actually, I think, a good person for this job because he has no ego whatsoever. And he's got a lot of experience, but he's still young enough to have a lot of energy. So I, you know, it's a tough, it's a tough situation, but he won't enter it, not being able to be equipped to manage it. So I'll say that about it. Yeah, I have all the confidence in the world and Trent Redden guys. I do. He's, he's probably had opportunities to be head of business or president or basketball operations with another franchise at this point, but there's no salary cap for paying your front office
people and coaches. And I'm sure he's well compensated by Balmer. Where's my money, please? So he doesn't feel the need to leave at this time. And now he is the interim president of basketball operations. I feel very good about Trent. As tough as the situation is, he's going to be fine. He won't enter it, not being able to be equipped to manage it. So I'll say that about Trent. Anyone else will think tight. He knows stuff really well. You know, he took every question I was thrown to him. Guys, you're not listening to me. He's smith for the possible return time frame for Ingram Thanksgiving X-Miss. He's not, he's not a reliable source. It's not a sourced report. It's just a guest of it. It's not sourced. It's not he talked to the doctor. He talked to Ingram. He talked to his agent. He's just guessing based upon, okay, it's partial tear. It's half the time of, you know, a normal, a full tear, complete tear with your killies. So yeah, it gets placed somewhere in this range. I'll give it a month and a half. It's just, it's a wide time frame
to put on it. And there's no official timetable or timeline with Brandon Ingram. I'm sorry. Much of you like Keith Smith. Is this Keith Smith? I like Keith Smith. But what are we doing with some of this reporting? All right. It doesn't mean anything. Not being able to be equipped to manage it. So I'll say that about Trent. Anyone else will think tight. He had a lot of stuff really well. You know, he took every question that was thrown to him. And I should have mentioned he started by apologizing to the Clippers fan base for not having clearer communication over the last month. Right. They were getting mixed signals from these different statements. Remember, Ballmer came out and vehemently rejected the M-Vasegation's findings and then turned around three weeks later and said, okay, we accepted. And I think he realizes there needs to be some massaging done to make sure people are still showing up and cheering in that wall. You know? Yeah. Well, listen, I don't think the Clippers, I don't think the Clippers got, I want to step back.
I'm not going to get in trouble, Ben. And I think he realizes there needs to be some massaging done to make sure people are still showing up and cheering in that wall. Yeah. Well, listen, I don't think the Clippers, I don't think the Clippers got, I want to step back. I'm not going to get in trouble, Ben. I think the Clippers could have gotten some better advice at times. Okay. Hey, I'll admit that those lawyers didn't do a good job. I don't see how, I think they took some bad advice with whoever the council was. How do I know that? Because apparently, they thought they could still go to arbitration even though the PA had already worked the deal with Kauai and the NBA. And they still put out the statement like we look forward to arbitrations. Like, there is not going to be an arbitration now. That to me was glaring. That was damning.
I agree. I don't know what some of the lawyers involved in this were thinking. Or maybe it's just billable hours. I don't know. Do you know how much I make a year? Because that was, I was a gas when I saw the statement. It's like, how do they put out a statement not knowing that there's not going to be arbitration now because the PA worth the deal with the NBA. Did they read the CBA laws? That was crazy to me. I think, is that diplomatic enough to say? I don't think you're getting in trouble for that. Yeah. But when I, you know, I'm just, you know, as you read that report, some of the stuff they did, you're like, wait a minute. Why? Why would you? Why would you do it that way? I mean, I agree. Why would the lawyer so confident? What advice were they giving? It didn't seem to be very good. I don't know. Obviously, I'm not pushing it all on them. But
the thing with the arbitration, like, what? How did you not know that? Anyway, yeah, so look, I mean, if you're a Clipper fan, I guess you're really, you know, looking to see how the young guys play. That's what you're looking forward to. It's probably not a bad idea for Bill to sit the whole preseason anyway. He probably shouldn't be playing in the preseason anyway. So I'm not as worried about that. But man, it's a tough sell to their fans, man. It's a tough sell. And you know what, Ben, you know, you've been covering League for a while. I'm telling you, I honestly think a lot of it is rooted in the fact that they've got that they live in the Lakeerschadow. Maybe they should never have less San Diego, that's what I'm saying. They could have stopped it.
Maybe they should never have less San Diego, that's what I'm saying. If they could have just been in San Diego, I think it would have been better for them. Because some of the stuff that they do, I think, at this whole thing, and I've compared this to what the nets did when they came out with broker-off and moved to Brooklyn and they wanted to take on the nets. And so they tried to, they got a little bit too aggressive and got a little bit out of their comfort zone and did some stuff they shouldn't have done in the name of taking over the city and then really got it in the chin and some ways are still recovering from two big giant swings they made that failed. There's something to be said for for overreach and I think that the Clippers were kind of guilty of being too worried about the Lakers instead of thinking they're what their own path is. That's my opinion. You can say I'm wrong, but that's my opinion. You're saying they're overcompensating or have some inferiority complex because they're in the shadow
of the Lakers in their own city. They're trying to compete as they should. They've said many times, we know they have the history, who's going to have the future and the present. You got to be willing to compete. It's not just the Lakers. It's every other team, it's all the entertainment here. It's just a part of it. I'm not going to fault them for trying to build the best team possible to win a championship. I don't think that's the issue. I don't believe the basketball guys punishing them. I don't believe in karma or all these things. Karma. How can karma exist? There's kids in children's hospitals. They do anything wrong? No. I'm vehemently against that stuff. It bothers me when people just chalk it up to. It's karma. Karma this. Kismet. I think it's stupid. It's logical nonsense. Sorry, sidebar.
I think that they're incredibly ambitious, incredibly competitive organization. I think it starts with Steve Balmer. I tell people, thank you. Thank you. I like this guy. That's my opinion. You can say I'm wrong, but that's my opinion. I think that they're incredibly ambitious, incredibly competitive organization. I think it starts with Steve Balmer. I tell people, he does everything to try to build up the clip. Receive and throw his a birthday party for his mascot and brings in like 20 mascots from around the country to perform at a game. He was hitting out catch rewards for fans who would show up to Clippers Gaves early in cheer. Before they even moved into the into a dome, spend billions on the arena. The want has never been a question with this group. It's sort of the execution and really how do you create your identity like you're describing? My biggest concern about the Clippers on the court is coming season. Even when they get all these guys back who were describing, I feel like they have a lack of physicality almost up and down positionally and almost every spot. I think they're going to be small. I think they could potentially get pushed around and I think they're going to have to find some creative ways
to hold their positions from point guard all the way up to center. That's really, I think, the challenge for Tai Liu. This guy has done a great job getting a lemonade out of lemons, so to speak. I think he's right back in that same challenge on the core with the team this season. Yeah, they're still depending on some older guys too. Brook Lopez is still in that rotation. They're still going to need some help to go their way eventually. I will point out the Clippers have a swap with the, as you evaluate this, the actual last piece of the Kawai trade has yet to be extinguished and that is the swap in this year's draft. The Clip, the Thunder have the option to swap with the Clippers. I kind of feel like there is a chance Ben that, like which Kawai trade are we talking about? The Paul George trade to get Kawai. Yes. I kind of feel like there is a chance Ben that the Clippers are going to be a team that falls into
that meat part of the lottery. I think they'll be good enough that they won't be one of the quote unquote relegated teams, but I think it's going to be hard for them to be a play in team. And I think they could be not that I want to point to more of the Thunder getting assets. But I think especially when you hear that Brandon Ingram is going to be out for some period of time here, that sort of, I don't know what else to say. I think they're headed for that zone. I could be wrong. I will point out that Kawai because we're not going to talk about that. Right. Look, the Thunder could get a top 10 pick this year from the Clippers. They got 12 last year from the Clippers. Of course, it's not, it's not a crazy notion. It's not wild. Or the Clippers could outperform expectations and all this chemistry stuff we've been talking about in this show come to fruition. That's what I've all been for. I could be wrong. I will point out that Kawai, because we're not going to talk about the Raptor specifically today, Kawai did have a press conference
today in Toronto. And he said quote, I know you want to hear about the investigation. I think the best decision is to move forward and my focus on my time being a Toronto Raptor. I just want to focus on basketball. So there's that too. I mean, I'll get cheek, but he might be the biggest winner of the entire summer with the way this played out, especially no kidding. She with the extension. He got the extension on the first day of fall. So he's eligible. He's eligible to be the winner of the fall to it's going to take some more to go his way. You know, the Raptor's way, but he's already on the list on the short list on the watch list for for winning the fall after winning the summer. So this might be a little bit of a hot take. I kind of like Scotty Barnes as a superstar pair with Kawai better than I do not care about their evaluation of Kawai with the Raptors. I don't sorry if I was preaching too much earlier about how I felt about karma. I just think it's it's
lazy throw away nonsense that people often use to explain things when it's like how do you not see some of the randomness going on? But I'm also a believer. So it's complicated. I just don't want to say that because the Clippers, you know, they tried too hard to match the Lakers and they were punished for it. And that's why all this happened. It's like they should be trying to win. They should be trying to content. They should be trying to build a winner. They should try to get out of the shadow of the Lakers. It's an impossible feat, but shoot for the moon. If you miss, be among the stars like the standard should be very high. That's where I'm at with it. So I don't love hearing all that. But I get it. I get what he's saying in this pursuit of outdoing the Lakers like
with the Nets trying to outdo the Nicks, you end up with this mess. Then I can see all some people think it's some poetic justice type of thing. I just I don't want anybody to shy away from. Yeah, we're trying to win here. That's the goal. If you want to interpret that is getting out of the shadow of the Lakers. Okay. They obviously directly went after them with the marketing stuff, street lights over spotlights. Sounded good at the time. Maybe a little embarrassing now. This embarrassing. But I'm not going to fault them for that. Let's see what happens next. Little upset. Now I'm good. Try to think what I have for you next. Anything else at him? Anything? What do we got? Oh,
Batume Jersey winner. Let me get the Batume Jersey. Well, we have a giveaway here. If you're a member here on Clippers Talk, if you want to become a member, hit the join button below. And I got to batume. Frans Jersey. I'm giving away an honor of him retiring and being one of our favorites. All first team role player with the Clippers organization. High level role player. Hold on. Let me get it. How about this? How's that working for you?
I got it over the top. If you can't tell, I got it over the top of an old penny, Jersey. I think penny was the one. That's just the one cent. But if he doesn't get hurt, man, we're having some different conversations with how skilled he was. The way he saw the game. Yeah, pennies one of my all-time favorites. So I'm giving it away here. And I said, get in the comment section, reply with your best Nico Batume memory. And it's going to this person, John OW 7GM. John Dash OW 7GM, who said one of my favorite Nico memories was after the game 7 loss in Denver two years ago. We were standing there stunned at the final buzzer. And Nico was the only player who walked back
across the court past the nugget celebration to acknowledge us. He put his hands to his heart and applauded the Clippers fans who made the trip. Small moment. But I'll never forget it. We appreciate you Nico. Yes, we do. So John Dash OW 7GM. Put another comment underneath this video with your email. And I will send you this jersey. Who says people don't win on Clippers talk? I put his name up here. There it is. John, you're the winner. There were a lot of good entries. There were a lot of good. You can talk about Nico and what he meets with his fan base and this team and this franchise. And I know Nakers fans would downplay that. But long live Nico Batum, the Batum Battalion. One of my favorite Clippers of the past seven years in this era. Somebody you can definitely be proud of that was on your team. And I just love the way you played.
I love the way he interacted with the fans. And there's a great example of it. Not everybody's going to do that. Back to you was the only one in that scenario. He can put his email. I don't know if he's a member of the discord or not. Emails or whatever. I've shown mine on here. Who cares? Where they gonna do? All right, I think we're good. If you want to become a member so you can win with whatever I'm giving away next. Maybe I'll announce that tomorrow. I hit that join button. You also get a cool clip. Maybe a Batum clip. All right. I'm Adam Ozzland. You've been listening to another edition of Clippers Talk.
I hate the Lakers.
