On today's show, who's ready to overreact to line rush, his group A is on the ice and you'll want to hear who's paired with Jake Sanderson and skating with Tim Stutzl.
And we continue with organizational value rankings. We're up to the 6th and 5th best players. I'm Jake Sanderson. I'm Tim Stutzl and you're listening to the Lockdown Center Podcast. You're Lockdown Senators, your daily podcast on the Ottawa Senators, part of the Lockdown Podcast Network, your team every day. Welcome! You are Lockdown to the Ottawa Senators. I'm Ross Levitt and alongside Brad and Pillar today is Thursday, September 17th and Pilsy. Sen Hockey is back. Now come on officially. If you didn't say it, Ross, I was going to say it. This isn't approved. Sen Hockey is back. It's not a Sen Hockey is back in all caps underlined and with like when you can text like a boom or make the letters like Lee Popper, not there. But we are at another milestone of Sen Hockey is back because it was Sen Hockey was back when the ice went in, then when the rookie tournament started.
But now we have legit NHL players wearing Ottawa Senators jerseys on ice. So that's a we're on a whole other level now. All caps, congrats. Sen Hockey is back to confetti starts flying around the screen. That's the feeling that I have today. And I'm actually really happy the way that this all turned out. Group A is on the ice. So we'll react to the line combinations there. Group B isn't skating until 1230. And we would have gone like a three hour show if we had all the line combos. So we're recording while Group A is out there. So we'll do Group A today. Group B tomorrow. Senators first preseason game by the way is next Monday. So the SENS will have a few practice days here to get all combobulated into what we're going to see on the ice. And sometimes you look at day one line combos and you see a Jackson Cover who had a great rookie tournament. Get an opportunity to play alongside a Tim Stutz. That's not what happened. And I think the short preseason is going to play a part in this.
And now we're going to get to who's playing alongside Jake Sanderson because I do think there's plenty of reason to go into deep thought that this could be a thing that actually continues through preseason and maybe even start of the regular season. But let's start with that top line. Tim Stutzla is going to play with Andre Burkowski and Drake Batherson. Your thoughts when you saw that. It's a mixture of not surprised yet still disappointed. We said it like Burkowski is one of those guys. He's one of those wingers who it's going to be interesting to see where he ends up on this roster. But we also made sure to emphasize. We can't be too surprised if he starts on that top line. He played on the top line with Chicago. He's got two Stanley cups. He's a veteran. He's big. He can skate. He has skill. He's able to play with guys like Tim Stutzla, Jake Batherson, obviously. But I just think I would have liked for different guys to get that opportunity. But as we all need to do Ross, we need to step away from the whole Burkowski. Why did they trade for him?
He was going to get bought out. He's got a cap of 5.5. He didn't have a good season. We need to get away from all those negative narratives and be like, OK, this is a good player. He's been in these positions before. We got to at least give him a chance here. And if you're going to bring a guy in like this and make a low bet on a bounce back player, you might as well put him in a position to succeed and see if he can do that from the get go, given some confidence and make him feel, hey, this isn't just we pay to six round pick for you. And we're just going to see what happens. This is us being like, we believe in you. And we think you can really make some of our top young players better. Go prove it. Go show everyone why you're the vet with all the experience. So although I'm disappointed, Ross, I don't hate it. And I'm going to allow myself to be like, OK, let's see how it happens before team of the day over reacting to it. Like I'm not going to be torch and pitch fork riding. Hey, this we can't have burk offs. You hear it's got to be on the fourth line where I think a lot of sense fans. When I see mock line up, a lot of people had him on the fourth line, which I just I don't think that was ever going to be the case. So we'll see what happens for us.
He's also with his experience to Stanley cops and he's making, I know salary less, but the cap like this is the spot you kind of brought him in for. So it's more his spot to lose versus other guys having to step up and take it from him. If that's fair to say. No, totally. And like look, the SENS needed two top six wingers when they traded Brady, they bring one in in Eklund and then they get burk offs. He had a lot of people us included Ross were like, all of this is setting up for a bigger move to get that top six. No, this was that this was the top six acquisition. And I know how everyone feels about that. But we got to give it a chance. But Pilsie that six round pick could be Mark Stone or Daniel Alfred said and farewell could be. Yeah, you never you never know. It could also be Darren Kramer, Corey Cowick or maybe even a Marcus Nermy if you're lucky. Oh, sense prospects with love. For sure, you mentioned it though, the big surprise might not be Burakowski on the top line, but what that trickle down means William Eklund's not skating in this group.
Now neither is Dylan cousins or Shane Pinto. So that leaves some intrigue for later today of how the rest of the lineup shakes out. I think we know. But then you're like, well, a maddie was in this group, but Pinto's not. Yeah, that throws a wrench in our duos that we kind of structured and built her out. Yeah, exactly the splitting a Maddo and Pinto. That's for me the more interesting thing like where where does that leave things. That's like Pittsburgh split in the rock twins it can. Yeah, exactly. These guys are joined at the hip. What are we doing here? But and again, I wanted to see Eklund on that top line. I think everybody did. I think we will in spurts and eventually if let's say Burakowski doesn't exactly shine there, which I want to know the record. I'm rooting for him. I'm hoping it works out. Flip that and you know someone means it Ross when they have to emphasize it after just going on a big rant. So you know, I mean that. But I do see a world where and we've been doing behind the scenes mockups based on what this is telling us. I do see a world where Eklund cousins zetter than line is your second line. And I like the sound of that like Eklund. You got your playmaker.
I got him with the shoot first center if cousins ends up playing center, which is again, probable even though I'd like to see him on the wing. And then you got Zetterland there. The best buddy with Eklund. Let's get him fired up. Let's get him going. He can be the guy that with cousins is banging bodies and playing that hard game. Well, Eklund is more the finesse guy. So that's why I could get into to. Yeah, I mean, I like how stu thlo is with batherson. Like I thought they played great last year together that we just kind of skimmed over it. But those are the two richest contracts and senators history. Now I know batherson hasn't kicked in yet. But I think that those two should be playing together. I know that cousins Dylan cousins can play well with batherson as well. They showed that especially down the stretch two seasons ago after the trade. But I really think that you need to have your most skilled players playing together and your two best forwards are stu thlo and batherson. So I hope that that's a combo that sticks throughout camp and they can alternate for akovski if they want to see what another look would be there.
Imagine Pinto and Dylan cousins both in the other group. What does that leave for the rest of group A will continue to pull up the lines and will continue analyzing what we saw, including. I mean, let's just get this tea side of the way. Jake Sanderson is paired with Carter Yakumchuck on the first line. We'll get reaction that gets that. Yeah, you're listening to locked on senators. Welcome back locked on senators your team every day part of locked on podcast network local experts on the biggest stories five days a week. One of let everybody know as well that we have the Gleebs central pub shuttle rolling for the preseason games as well. Just heard from Blair and the great crew down at the GCP. Those tickets are available on the Ottawa Senators website. So you can get those for the exhibition game coming up on Wednesday September 23rd against the Toronto Maple Leafs as well as the Saturday night game against the Montreal Canadian sends hockey's back and that means the GCP shuttle is as well. How should we do this? You want to just do it as though we're rolling into a game day preview where I'll read out the lines and then we'll break it down. Obviously Tim Stutzla with Andrej Burakowski Drake Batherson. Let us know your thoughts in the comments on that one beyond it. Interesting. Ridley Greg is playing center with Sammy Blay on left wing and Michael Amadio at right way.
The third line is Ryan don't call me Nick Suzuki between Blake Montgomery and Casper Halton and the fourth line is filled out with Jackson covert and Hayden Hodgson on the back end. They got four pairs here eight defenseman in this group Jake Sanderson with Carter Yakum Chuck Tyler Klaven is with Hoyt Stanley Scott Harrington skating with Gibraltar and gave a liason is on a pair with a PTO invite. Now this is Napanese finest Pillsie we got another local connection here and you got a great little bit of info too on Cal Uens who's a training camp with the sense. Yeah well actually Ross I have the Uens mixed up the my tidbit was about Zach Uens which not related and Zach Uens from Belville Cal Uens from Napanese so I got that one mixed up but I'm excited.
For this guy he's going to be interesting five foot nine one hundred and fifty nine pounds. I mean it is it is comedy that they paired him with Gabel isem. Like I mean Andrew Willemack who writes great for the SENS on their website he just posted a video them skating around I replied with the picture of Aaron judge standing next to Jose Al Tubei like this is hilarious. I don't know how many calories are inside of Cal Uens but I think big gave each that every single day. Yeah Gabel would roll him up into a beaver tail and yeah. Yeah. All the toppings yeah exactly but that is the ultimate yin and yang on the fourth pair but we don't need to focus too much on that we got lots of intriguing options let's I know we usually do forwards then D but we got to go with the most interesting storyline right now. Just yesterday in our organizational value rankings as we're talking about Carter Jacob Chuck we said hey look maybe not this year but one day don't you think it could be the perfect pair with Jake Sanderson 24 hours later the auto senators are leading training camp with a 20 year old playing with the best player on the team thoughts.
I mean this again all these groupings and lines you got to do the Charlie day always sunny and Philadelphia like connecting the dots and you're like a absolute madman but this one there's a clear indicator and we've heard an update on it zoop still is not healthy and it's possible that he might not be ready for the start of the season so if that's the case. That top spot on the right side with Jake Sanderson is empty and we want Sanderson Jack took to play together eventually this soon I don't know but it's exciting you can't deny that like this is what sends fans dream of seeing one day and if one day is Monday then I guess I'm down for it but I think it's this is the time to try this out so I like doing this. What I like doing this because what they could have done is just done Sanderson spends a pair that we know is well both of those players are really good NHL players they've played together their numbers are great together that makes sense but in training camp and the preseason this is your time to try things out so I actually like that they're doing this because they like Clevans right there Ross they could have done 11 yeah I can chuck that and that would have been something that people would have been like okay it makes sense but they're they're trying the exciting
experiment here and you said their numbers are great together unfortunately it would have been great if you have 58 there would have been a mirror image of each other with sandy rock and 85 but that is that is low on the total pull of things that matter what does matter is that we know how fast and how much ground and range Jake Sanderson has on the ice that completely fits with a guy who will take risks and can't really pivot very well at the NHL level yeah so I just think it's the perfect and you hate to say it because I don't think it's going to neuter sanderson's offensive ability but like it completely fits having him as the like let's protect so there's not too on oh is the other way coming down the right and it allows you have to play that game right like if he's playing with Clevans no offense to Clevans he's no Jake Sanderson like you have to play a tighter game and he knows he's going to be the defense called puck transition or whereas you get him with Sanderson and I mean Sanderson's obviously the guy you want transition puck the most but it's not like Yakum Chuk can't do that or teams are are going to be just dumping it in his corner and it's going to be a problem so I think having Sanderson as that safety net is really going to help Yakum Chuk feel comfortable and feel confident in being like you know what let me try something here and that's so cool
that's what you need Yakum Chuk feeling confident to do that otherwise you're not going to get his full potential. This is so funny to Murray Pam at Pam Rahaki great follow as well he's at training camp right now they're doing there and backs the skating drill and I was just pulling it up. Sanderson is like by far first in their grouping of like probably 10 players and Yak is by far last. Yeah no and look Yak has like a special ability of confidence with the puck and just being able to make things happen out there so I just think this this is beautiful like this with zoom out it kind of forces their hand to make this decision. But they could have easily said like they they played Matt and Palo with Sanderson before exactly yep they played spence with Matt and or with Sanderson before like it wasn't. A slam dunk necessarily based on what we've seen last season and maybe it would have been easy to say hey Spencer's got the new contract he showed latin the season he can play top line minutes let's just go with Sanderson's fence and work the rest out from there but this aggressive approach at the start of camp is the.
Exact kind of thing that I wanted to see so very excited to see Jake Sanderson and Carter Yakim Chuck I really hope they get to play at least one maybe more exhibition games together. I think they will what's the next biggest storyline for you for me it's really Greg playing Santa. Yeah definitely um I think and like we talked about a patio and Pinto being separated is interesting I don't know how much i'm reading into that because. Travis Green is going to walk them together no matter what i would be shocked if that's to do that split absinthe makes the heart grow fonder yeah let's go with that um again I think this is a chance where you need to try things and you need to use this opportunity to give players chances in. Different scenarios and really Greg's been playing the wing. Pretty much the last couple seasons he hasn't played a lot of time at center except when there's injuries so I think it's good to be like alright.
We've got time on the wing we've seen we know what you can do on the wing you play you played on a really good line um when it was him cousins and Brady together but. How can you hold your own playing center is this something that we can realistically look at if need be because. If they move cousins to the wing really Greg's going to be that guy so maybe this is a test to see if that works and I like that they got him with a patio you know because. If they do that that's going to separate Pinto and a patio and Greg is going to have to be that guy that's the three C playing on that checking line and likely it's going to be with a. Nick cousins or when he's healthy fogal like that I think those those guys will be there maybe shiru yes um so I think that's good that they're giving Greg a chance to center and. You nailed it with the amount of thing and having sandy play there it's like if you're going to play center it's going to be in the bottom six so you're not going to get a Dylan cousins to play with our other offensive players you're going to have to be a guy that transports the puck we know that he can fly down the ice so I think having his speed there if they really want to go.
So full depth which feels like the way this team is built it's going to be more than the sum of its parts. I don't think it's outrageous say he might play fourth line center and you move holiday to the wing and he could be a big body that's that's working down low and he doesn't have to worry about the pace of controlling through the middle and what like the speed you'd have and the pace that your centers would have. If you go stutz luck cousins Pinto Greg down the middle of the ice it's just this is the time to experiment with that so I really do like really Greg playing the middle the Suzuki Montgomery Alton in line like that could be the top line down in valve. Yeah I still would prefer to have a borg Go with Suzuki in a health and in but yeah it's it's not crazy to see Montgomery get that opportunity. Clevver getting a chance with hoi Stanley that's a pretty big pat on the back for hoi to right he just won the Jonathan Peach reward a development camp this year hardest worker getting to play with an NHL regular right off the bat in your first NHL training camp like that tells you what the organization thinks of hoi Stanley.
Yeah and I forget if the Wheeler said this while we were talking with him on the episode or after Ross but it was okay he was telling us hoi Stanley was a guy that looked really good and yeah from everything we've been hearing it's it's much of the same people are really excited and impressed with white Stanley and he's just a good steady smart reliable defense. So I think getting him to play with Clevver the guy that plays that physical shutdown game can have him be like okay if I can really emphasize that part of my game like hoi Stanley's never going to be a point producer who probably never play on the power play but you can look to your left and be like there's a prototype of a guy that if I can mold my game more into that style. I can maybe get an NHL job out of it so I like that pairing. Goleys in this group, Linus Almark Jackson Parsons and Zarenko who was the PTO gold tender by the way one playoff MVP in the MHL back in 2022 he's been with the Springfield Thunderbirds in the AHL the last number of years and just a thought quickly on that we mentioned it yesterday but like if Mara line and gets claimed or
if they keep Mara line and in the NHL and go with three goalies having a guy who's a little more experienced could be a good thing to have with Parsons and Raidler we've talked about potentially Raidler going on the Parsons development path where you're split between Belleville and the ECHL this year. So Zarenko has a good camp I wouldn't be surprised if he either gets a two way contract or a one way AHL deal with Belleville and should kind of be that not like they've done in the past with Hunter Shepherd or others where they go with like a 34 35 year old veteran but another guy who's just has more games and the schedule in the AHL is so outrageous with the three in three and three and four is like you need to have both goalies going all the time and I just think having a little bit of maturity at that position of pro experience could be a good thing so I actually out of all the PTOs I think he's most likely to get a contract but there is one other thing. Another PTO Pillsy Ben Hutton is coming to camp formerly of the Vegas gold tonight played with the Vancouver connuxt he's been around man and he's a a Brockville Prescott guy and used to play for the NPN Raiders he played there the year after they cut my ass and won a championship with them went to Maine he's had a nice little career 575 NHL games he's actually got into seven playoff games this past season with Vegas.
Yeah I like this a lot especially obviously Travis green has familiarity with him so that's a big boost he's a left shot defenseman which I think is good we don't know of that same depth that we do on the right side now it's interesting that it's a lefty that they bring in because armzoob might be out to start the season but you're still covered with yaks fence and mat and palo and I just think. This is a better move than bringing in Logan Stanley which I know a lot of sense fans on Twitter we're talking about like. I'm not saying that but like a lot of we love our guy Martian but a lot of people are like we need more size we need more physicality this is a big team and they've got guys that play a physical game do they have. Like the fighters and the enforcers not necessarily but like this is a soft team by any means and I don't think you need to bring in a leaf eater as you call him Ross yeah just a guy that's all size just to be like now we got size like.
Travis green plays a game of pace you need guys that can move and Logan Stanley is not that guy and I even saw one Jets fan comment on I think it was Martian's tweet about bringing Stanley and he was. Like look you might think of this guys a big physical guy ensure he's he can enforce his will with his size but he's too damn slow to be out there hitting guys like you can't make a hit in open ice because the guys already passed him by the time that opportunities there so and I know also people are like all but he fought Brady we need to bring him into fight Brady when it happens and from that standpoint I get that you want that kind of juice and revenge but I just I don't think that's the right way to go and you know. Ross some other team is going to give Logan Stanley a one way deal and it wouldn't make sense to do that. No apparently he might have turned down four years at five million from the Jets for the dead. No yeah yeah I think he yeah he overpresses himself and he went the buffalo and he ended up in the press box in the playoffs so that didn't.
With Luke Shen playing it over him yeah yeah one note about Ben Hutton you want to stand like up with Vegas as well he played two games during that playout. Stratso some familiarity with Michael Maddo there also last thought I meant to say this earlier when we were talking about the top line what is interesting about Birkhovsky up there is that he was playing left wing he only played seven percent seven percent of his shifts last year at left way he was right wing almost all the time but Bathurston played some left wing this past season as well so yeah and at the Birkhovsky's playing left way. But neither of those guys Bathurston or Birkhovsky are guys I'm like I want to see them on their weak side because they're shooters so. Oh no Birkhovsky shoots left oh he does yeah oh okay I thought he played he played as offside majority last year yeah yeah yeah well that's that's what get him on a strong side then yeah there you go all right or organizational value rankings on the other side you're listening to locked on senators your team every day.

Welcome back locked on senators your team every day let us know in the comments who on here from you your thoughts on group A's line combinations and if you're watching this after group two is already out there. Then let us know your thoughts on that as well we'll break that down on tomorrow's episode of the locked on senators podcast as we turn our attention back to our organizational value rankings and if you missed any of them over the weekend next weekend so after preseason we're going to post a video of every single segment that we did all together with time stamps you'll be able to jump around if you want to learn about a certain player going into the season. Pillsie coming in at number six on our organizational value rankings is Dylan. Cossets another nice year for him is first full one with the sense.
Matt I'm such a Dylan cousins fan Ross like he this was the guy the Ottawa senators and needed to trade Josh Norse for an obviously we love Josh Norse great guy but. You get a guy that's a shoot first center that's a lot more fortunate with his health than Norse that was always the big problem and he plays a much more physical game people I feel like don't fully appreciate how physical Dylan cousins is 215 hits last season like this guy is out there banging bodies he's got that good size at 6 3 205 28 goals 31 assists. I see him as being a 30 goals score moving forward Ross I think we're going to see him score. I'll say 33 goals next year and keeping the 30 assists mark like I want to see him in the 60 point range every single season. The best ability is availability and Dylan cousins has not missed a game since joining the Ottawa senators he's already played 103 total he was one of only a handful players on the team last year a total of three of them.
That played all 82 games close to Ruby Fabian Zetterland the others so you get that that he's in the lineup and you can count on it every night and then on top of that I mean he was so close to getting 20 or 30 goals finishes with 28 59 points could have been a couple more I think even if if luck had gone his way now he has been a dash player the majority of his career but I did see him take a lot of strides in the defensive aspect of his game since he came over to Ottawa you mentioned the hits. Felsie did you know that Dylan cousins was tied for 15th in the NHL last year in hits. Damn I knew he was up there but I didn't think it was that high yeah that's impressive and if you filter this top hits by players who had at least 50 points. I want to say let me double check because key for sure it had a pretty good year no key for sure it had 36 points 40 the year before he would be number one. Nobody had more hits than him that also contributed consistently to the offense like the next closest guys I scroll down like Vinny Trochek had a hundred ninety three hits a lot of these other guys are all just either defenseman or they're checking forwards where they're only job is to be able to throw hits.
Just yeah really really impressive to me that he's able to to add that element because he's not throwing bone crushing hits he's just forechecking and getting pucks off sticks by creating physical contact so he's 6305 you can obviously throw his weight around and he's a guy that really takes it seriously like you look at his summer in mescalco with Sam Gagne getting to work under him getting to be at that camp at the end of the summer where they had literally a who's who of elite NHL. Players there I just think he's surrounding himself with the best and was surrounded by the best on a line at the world championships like everything is feeding into me believing that we've got a career best season coming from Dylan cousins. Yep no it is not to and we got to talk about value here Ross the fact that he's got four years left at 7.1 million like that's great value like even like Norse was that what 7.9 or 7.8 like 7.95 pill he under 8 you know yes of course even right there the value of saving money there is good and he doesn't have any trade protection until the last two years of his deal and even then.
It's a 5 team no trade list so. You know you're not handcuffing yourself and that's where the value of getting these guys on these old age deals is going to be so immense like if Dylan cousins hit. The market like if he was in bath or since situation where this is a final year was deal. He's probably going for. I ate maybe low 9s like is that crazy to say I don't think so no I think he'd be asking for 10. Yeah so that's great value to have Dylan cousin there and I keep forgetting that he's only 25 to like man he's the same age as Shane Pinto same draft yeah like you look at you got Timmy cousins Pinto Eclan Sandy and then you throw in the next up and coming generation in yak like this team is positions so well with their elite as we have them in the franchise and core players in great positions contract wise and age and like this team despite what the athletic says on their contending chart which we didn't get into but.
This team is entering their window in my opinion yeah they are and the fact that stale is pulled off that trade for Norris and got a second round pick got two years younger like I know that it's like not fair to Josh just when he does plays a hell of a player like Josh can absolutely play but I mentioned Dylan cousins played 103 games since the trade Josh Norris was played 47 yeah more than double. The amount of games so yeah he's got 36 points and 47 games we're not surprised by that but man Dylan cousins has been a very nice addition for the Ottawa senators he moves up three spots on our organizational value rankings to number six coming in at number five it's Linus all Mark Pilsie this is a down one spot he had been number four in each of the first two years on our list. Clearly a season of two stories for Linus all Mark there was the trials and tribulations of the first half some horrific performances leading to a leave of absence but man when he came back from that leave he was one of the most consistent and top goalies in the national hockey league but it didn't do enough to fix the stats and 891 save percentage that's the worst of his career.
That's 2812 and eight record which is honestly miraculous based on that save percentage a 2.73 goals against average and three shutouts. Yeah Ross you took my thoughts exactly as you were saying that I went to his game logs and I'm doing the splits right now so here I'll actually I'll start with the first half of the season split and then we'll get to the positives I'll do the second one because I yesterday posted on Twitter and I added in his playoff number. So it's what he did after the Olympics overall. Yeah I think the playoffs numbers is going to be nice. I had to I had to Google how do you calculate goals against average because he obviously had those over times in the playoffs too so it wasn't easy and anyways I figured it out. L.O.S.P stats apart in regular season form here. So I don't have the patience and skills to do that so I'll do the easy part here Ross how about that so for the first 28 games of the season so that's the start of the season all the way up to that terrible night in Toronto December 27th.
Here's Linus all marks numbers 28 games played as I mentioned still a 14 9 and 5 record Ross that's even a Ross no that's a Ross 1110 514 14. Oh okay yeah. Yeah okay there we go. Wait did you say 14 9 and 5 yes yeah you're right okay you weren't sure there you're gonna you're gonna double check that one. The stats department was still celebrating the compliments so it just needed to recalibrate. Yeah still loading that tab. About a save percentage of 881 not not where you want them to be so that's the first tale of Linus all marks season Ross go ahead with the second. Well yeah and the goal saved above expected was just plumm. Among the worst in the league with loving Maryland and and newly acquired and signed Samuel Airsen well I'd imagine that because airsons numbers are also available at Central after the Olympics but Linus all mark after the Olympics had look.
Call me a Homer but I gave him an OT loss for the overtime loss in the playoffs I know that the playoffs you either winner you lose but for the purposes of this it was an OT loss love it. He went 12 7 and 4. I'm waiting for you to say that's a bug 500 that's 12 11. I mean I would have said it was a bug 500 either way. 242 goals against average a 908 save percentage and a plus 11.9 goals saved above expected. Yeah like I think like Ross I don't know about you but my number for Linus all mark if we can get him to a 905 save percentage I think this team is in really good shape. Yeah I think this league average was like 899. Yeah like say percentage they really clamp down on even if a shot hits the goalie like butterfly save but the trajectory of the puck isn't going in the net. They're not counting that as a shot obviously shots to hit the post don't count so they're like well if a shot would miss the post but the goalie makes it safe why should that count.
I think that's bogus I think goalie should get saves all the time. Yeah that should get shots. Yeah exactly that's probably why they did it honestly when you really think about it but three years left at 8.25 this is a huge year for him and look let's over react to this pilsie our good friend Wayne Scanlon legend at hockey scanner. This is all he tweeted 30 minutes ago all mark looking sharp in his first session. He's just going over the Vesna and I do think Ross and we've said this but we need to go into we're talking about Linus all mark the organization. I think maybe realize okay this is our number one guy we're paying him 8.25 million he's a Vesna winner like Linus all mark make no mistake. This is the auto wall senators X factor the auto will live or die based on how Linus all mark plays so they said okay how can we support him let's not focus on what what do we do elsewhere let's focus on supporting him all right bring in his old goalie coach I can never remember that guy's name or how to say it.
Mateusz well thank you bring him in have him feeling comfortable with the guy he's used to and a guy that you know really can remind him hey you know what kind of goal yeah you know what kind of goal you are Linus like have him bring that guy and okay now. Golly's it's always going to be two you whether it's a tandem starter backup there's going to be two goalies i'm sure James Rimer was great with the Salmark that's not a knock on him but let's get a guy that Linus all Mark is comfortable with Sam Liersen a sweet they can connect on that level they've played together in on the international stage and Steve say oh said multiple times hey I'm not a goalie guy I had the goalie intelligence of this organization which I'm sure included Linus all marks at the end of the day. So I'm sure that's the best thing that he can do is to include it Linus all Mark's opinion at the very least come together and they all believe that erison is the right guy that we need to bring in so have him with his coach of another goalie that is comfortable with and let's really do what we can to have Linus all Mark be the best person and goalie that he can be.
So if you want to see a big season from Linus all Mark we don't even need a big season from him we just need an average season and if he could be a little bit better than average Ross you said that say percentage in the high eight 90s so if we can get him 903 even I think would get the job done and then erison i don't care what his stats are all I care about is this record and he's had good records throughout his entire career so if erison can just not. He's gonna lose more games than he wins even if that means or no let me put it this way for you Ross get points more often than he doesn't get points you're in a good spot. Yeah I mean that's what James Rimer did last year he went seven four and two about five hundred so let's keep rolling with that big big big big year for Linus all Mark who comes in at number five on our organizational value rankings. Alright Pillsie final thought for me and my brain it's slow today but we got here we're talking about that line with Ridley Greg Sammy Blair Michael Maddo.
If Sammy Blair is a placeholder for war and fogal. That could be a nice little third line and fogal also hurt should be back he's skating by himself it should be back the next couple weeks that could be that could be a really nice line. Yeah I'm more inclined to believe Nick cousins will be on that line and Sammy Blair will be on the fourth line no like I think that might be the fourth line. Oh sorry I thought you're saying third line yeah yeah no I'm down for that okay yeah we'll think about that any final thoughts for you. Five thoughts for me is I want the Ottawa Senators to name a captain before the season starts but I'm not going to get panicked and I'm not going to get worried or have some strong feelings if they don't I would rather them take their time and name who they feel is the right guy rather than name a guy rushed so that it's ahead of the season and they can they can do their announcements in a fun way and even I saw
I saw meth was saying someone commented on Twitter like why don't they just do it old school style everybody gets a little piece of paper right the name of the guy you want captain put it in a hat at the end read out the votes survivor style and it's like okay well survivor winner style not survivor loser style you're not voting people out of the team here. And methods like this may sound corny and it may seem pee we hockey like but this is probably the best way to do it so it's going to be interesting to see who hands up getting it but let's let's not freak out if it doesn't happen right away yeah very well said but let's over react tomorrow to group be line combinations we're going to climb all the way to the top of our elite slash core tier and that'll just leave the franchise tier for Monday which is great to end the organizational value rankings on the day.
