One person's nightmare, another person's dream. There used to be a guy in my engineering class named Unis. He was an energetic Moroccan guy who was great at making people laugh. But one day, he was super quiet. He looked stressed. The students asked him what was up. He looked at us and said that he thought he got his girl pregnant and he had no idea what to do. To Unis, this was a nightmare because he was not ready to be a father. He was in a room full of engineers and everyone started trying to solve the problem. They were talking about pills and medical timings. It was a deep conversation. I just recall Unis did not want to be a parent. Fast forward a few years and now I'm in my late 20s. I hear the opposite story all the time. I know couples who have been trying to have a baby for years. They go to the doctors, spend the money and wait. They want that news more than anything in the world. It made me realize that the news that was a nightmare for Unis was a dream for someone else.

This happens in many other parts of life besides parenthood. You might hate your boring office job while someone else is unemployed and praying for a steady paycheck. You might be annoyed by your small apartment while someone else is tired of living with roommates and dreams of having their own space. Even a boring routine can be a dream for someone living through a high stress chaotic situation. We often complain about positions that other people are fighting to be in. Perspective is everything. Our money talks.
