Check podcasts. Thanks for listening to the Donnie and Deli podcast. Catch the show Monday through Friday, 10am to noon on Check. I think you're going to want to hear this. Your local sports coverage lives here. Death of Flas is a satisfying routine. Surrendering home. With John Taylor. When I was in Joss Creek, I slept on a phone. I rolled it up, moved from house to house. And Rick Dulley wall. Now, that may be re-freeze that we've all. All right. We're up. Are we on? Yes. We're live. Sooner than expected. Oh. Do I go through the routine? I do. 10 o'clock in downtown Vancouver. The Paul Carson studio. Thanks for tuning in, folks. Donnie and Deli, the team on Check. Don Taylor along with Rick Dulley wall.
Not great start to the Monday, by the way. Ryan Henderson is our producer. He's the man of the controls. Our director, the voice of God, Derek Wong, is vacationing again, where in Disneyland for like the 400th time in the last two years in his place, Aroff Kataria. And we welcome him away. How's your weekend? You're fighting a cold. I'm playing Hurt right now. It's going around. But I'm seconded up. I'm one of those guys, Donnie, that sucks it up. Please hurt. And one of the reasons you wanted to come in today, because you felt obligated to tell us your story. I just thought of a retired pilot who used to work, used to fly the connox plane. I was in the gym yesterday. Yeah. And I really nice. And you wanted to tell the story. I'm not telling the story. You guys think it's a bad story. So look and tell the story. You built it up. No. But a retired pilot came up to me and said, hey, I watched the show. Used to drive the connox plane. Really nice guy.
Really good chap. And we talked for 20 minutes. It's a wonderful guy. I tell a story. You guys laugh the story off. I, every story I tell you guys laugh it off. OK, hold on. You need to tell the story. No, I'm not telling the story. He has to train me in the pilot. OK, don't use names. Don't use names. OK, I'll summon him. I don't have permission. No, I don't have permission from the pilot. No, I am. We'll, we'll, we'll, we'll, we'll, why? What do you want me to say? He didn't say his name. He's just a really nice chap. Have you guys been in the cockpit before? Yes. No. I've got a good cockpit story.
Oh, no. Wow. I mean, it's a little bar after what we heard from him. But I'll stop it. No, OK. You were saying that Daniel Sedino is afraid of the weather going into a city. They were, yeah, they were on a plane. And there was concern about the weather up high. And so, the pilot said, hey, you go show Daniel, and you showed him his laptop that everything's OK. I'll pay. And Daniel, don't you just look at the video? Ah, stop it, Don. Well, it could have been dark. How can you tell, you know, 3000 feet when it's dark? But anyways, they showed him the lighting. They showed him the, the weather. It was, it was like, you had to be there. You had to be there. Apparently you did. Yes, OK. And that's how we spent most of our morning before the show, folks. OK. Vegas over the connox, 3, 2. Yes. I've tweeted this out, like, I don't know, 40 times over the last a week or so since the connox season started.
They've been entertaining. Oh, they're two and two. It's not perfect. Find a watch. Gritty. There's speed there. And I think the thing for me that's sticking out, and not just me, but for everybody, well, tooth it, when it comes to two plays, Paul Carter. And like, what a surprise. When you talk about their off season signings, you know, Alexiac and Gallagher and Shan, then there was Paul Carter probably talked about the least in the off season. Under the radar. All do respect. Under the radar. There's the phrase, very good. That pilot worked a very hard as well. It's a beautiful segue. But he has been just, you're just fabulous. Like, tell. He's been, he's been definitely light so. Six points for him in the four games, but also. Look, over the last, how long we've been on the air? This is our seventh season, okay? Over the last seven seasons.
It seems like every second day, you take your shots at EP. Stop it. At Lea's Patterson. No, I don't. And his big contract. You do. No, no, no. No, you do. We are every, okay, in all seriousness, everybody does. You're a pilot, you ran into. He mentioned EP before. Yesterday. But there's just so much going on with him. That is positive. His point total, six points through. He and Carter are tied for third place with Jack Eichelon. And they just, I know it's very early, but look, folks, we all know. The bar is set very low. But they've been very impressive from the very least an entertainment, a grit point of view. 19 goals in four games. Didn't see that. Yeah, your voice cracked there. You're extremely excited. But then we got this hit from the Calgary game. Correct there. I mean, 19 hits through four games.
And really, he didn't have any hits in the first game to play, so it's 19 hits through three. Very cool. And look at, there's nothing wrong with this hit. Ray Ferrero said this in the broadcast. I mean, the flames went after him. And this is one of the things that a lot of people have trouble with in the national hockey league. Somebody comes up with a clean hit. And they have to, they have to answer for it. That didn't happen back in the day, back in my day, back in our day. But we didn't see much of this. And it's not just this hit. There were other times when he was extremely aggressive. And the other thing he's been very aggressive with, and you know this, we talked about it before the show. And that's the willingness to shoot the puck. The message has gotten through to him that, hey, listen, he knows that you've got a great shot. Use it. Don't hesitate. Be a little bit selfish. The greatest player is in the game. They've been selfish at times. It's their nature. And that's a good thing in the sport of hockey.
And I'm like a lot of people. I'm very impressed with what I see with the Elias Patterson. 11.6 or not. Very, very impressed. And to me, that is sticking out as much as anything else. What I see is a guy in a better mental state, a better dressing room. Last two years have been a disaster. You know, the fighting with Miller and all that stuff. It's gone, Don. This is a great dressing room. Carter said at No Eagles, when the dressing room gets better, good things start to happen. He doesn't have to worry about all the BS that happened in the last two years. He's mentally better. Ryan Johnson talked to him a lot on the phone in the summer. He came in a camp and shape didn't come in out of shape. A long way to go. But it's so far, so good. Take the positive. Take the positive. We could be ragging on him with no points in four games. We're not doing that. You've said more nice things about Patterson in the last two minutes than you have in the last two years. You take it. You know, hope he builds on it and it keeps going. But everything he does.
He deserved the criticism over the last three. I'm showing up in shape. Absolutely. I agree with you. But I think a lot of what happened in the first four games is this is a better dressing room. It's all the bad apples are gone. These guys are playing for each other. They're on the same wavelength. They're all pulling the rope in the same direction. Makes a world a difference. Now the expectations aren't there, right? That's okay. Like they have been in the recent past. Look, one of the aspects of the connox that blows me away and I've talked about this a lot on the show over the last two years is that 2024 and those playoffs and being one win away from the Western Conference. It's not that long ago. Two years ago. That blows me away. And then just I'm sorry, but disaster since then. So the bar is set low, but very promising first four games. I'll tell you what else I loved. I want to get to this Paul Carter clip as well. We'll do that in a second. I think he said a lot in a short period of time.
But I thought even when they were down eight to against the Ableton and the home opener, I thought the crowd has been great. Has been really behind this team. I've noticed that. And then they made a three four and that game got close and the crowd built up and it was really impressive. And I think what that speaks to me of is that this city, connox nation as a whole, wherever connox fans are, they're into this rebuild. And we, and a lot of people have been telling Francesco and everybody in the connox, the fan base is okay with this. This is good. So far. This is as long as there's effort and there's hope as well. We'll get to that later on in the show. Okay, so here Paul Carter, we talked about him earlier. He's been a revelation. But this is Paul Carter who, and they lost to Vegas yesterday, former Vegas goal tonight,
former New Jersey devil hasn't been here all that long, but the team's been impressive. He certainly has been impressive. But this is Paul Carter, a clip on what he's learned about his new team after four games roll it. For a team that's everybody in the world has said this is going to be lasting the league. I'm pretty happy with how we've been doing. So we have a great group. We've set it 10 times, but very egoless group. And we have a mix of older, younger guys and guys in between. And a lot of skill. And when you have a room that's that close and willing to get better together, it can take you so far. So we've battled. We've had a couple great teams we've played against here early and going to continue to try and be better. And I think a road trip will help us obviously with your team 24-7 on the road. And I think it should be good for us. Paul Carter.
I'll tell you something else that I really like with the connox right now and look. In our Waddling Dog inbox. We've spent the first 10 minutes praising the connox. Yes. And we have no shortage of people saying, and here's one, unsigned, saying things like this. Why are you complaining about the connox being two and two? Art Parmin, are you complaining about the connox being two? Why do you want them to win more or lose more? You've moaned about a rebuild for years. Now we've got one going. Let's be more on board. I love the winning. Be happy. We might not get a lot of it. But a lot of people saying, I don't know if that was the best example. But a lot of people saying, hey, listen, two and two is great. But maybe lose more with the land and do pond and the rebuild in mind. But I think what people are looking for, even in the midst of a rebuild. If they're all in for entertaining, and I think the fan base would be okay with it. Let me get back to what I was going to say. I'm impressed with two players.
I mean, O'Connor and Patterson, no question about it. I think they got to play Drew O'Connor and Max Sassen together as much as possible. Like they're fast and they cause trouble. Look, could they have better hands and are there flaws in their game? I guess so. But they cause trouble for the opposition when they play together. They're speed there. That creates hope and entertainment. I like them together. You also wanted to talk about Luke Shen. I thought what Luke Shen did, Donnie on Saturday was incredible. That guy he took on, Clap-Ga was one of the biggest guys. Him and Rempere, the two biggest guys. He made Luke Shen look small. But Luke Shen was brought here for exactly what he did. This is exactly what Luke Shen's all about. He's just a high quality teammate, high quality character guy. That guy's way bigger than him. It's 6-8 versus 6-2. Yeah, I think he's 6-9. But anyways, 6-9, look at this guy.
Luke Shen thrown him with this guy. That just up left side. That's how you build the team. That's how you build the team. The other guy that could have did this was Alexiack. He's top 2, Donnie. But this is why they brought Luke Shen in. And this is incredible team bonding. This is the bench went nuts after. And then he went after Clap-Ga again in the second period. He's just been absolutely great. I know it's his third time here. It's not like we don't know who Luke Shen is. When I just saw Saturday night watching that, I just, at my respect level for Luke Shen is through the roof. They don't have a lot of guys who can do that, Donnie. We're going to get people complaining about us being profiting and us, don't it? But let's go full circle here and go back to what we talked about at the start. And Elias Patterson. When you see things like what we saw with Luke Shen and Adam Clap-Ga, it lifts everybody up. Including someone like Elias Patterson. Who's not going to drop the gloves?
Anybody who's played a lot of hockey knows that. And again, are there, you know, Luke Shen is the third pairing defenseman at this point of his career. Okay, so he's not the perfect hockey player, but he brings that element. And that's important for not just him, but everybody else. I'm stating the obvious here. But I think, you know, that has something to do with what we see from Elias Patterson. There's more courage there. Right. Courage and Luke Shen's own courage. Last thing, Clap-Ga, now knows he can't run around without retribution. He can't run around, do anything you want to connect to players. Lots coming up on the show. DTMZ is it just me coming up in the 11 o'clock hour. Craig Button is going to join us just after 11 o'clock. We found out this morning that Alex Ovechkin, last game, is last national hockey league season. 22nd NHL season. This is it for Alex Ovechkin. Enjoy him while he's on the ice. Folks, Craig's going to talk about that. Or we'll get Craig to talk about that.
Big ride, the critical guy coming up a little bit later. Mojus next. But before we do that, we talked a lot about the connox, Rick. And we want to mention to people, let people know that our connox coverage is brought to you, our listeners, our viewers, by a new client of ours. Oh boy, are we so happy to have these guys on board? Anyways, I fell with the laundry basket and I went right away to the couch, wrapped up the ankle with physical. It works. It works. It's a great product. It felt better. Oh, we think the people of physical so much for jumping on board with Donnie and Dolly the team on check. Hope you had a great weekend, folks. Moj is next again. This was given to me by Mags, your plumber. When you had to pay him out, you took him down to the back in the estate. And apparently tells me that you don't even like put money in the bank because you don't want to pay for the service fees. So you keep all the cash in the basement. So anyway, you had to pay him and there you go. So Mags sent me that one. Yeah. It don't be knocking me. You don't, he's helped you out as well. That was me who set you up. Okay. Mags is the best. I love me. By the way, before we get rolling, I thought of you this weekend. I thought of you. Thank you. I'm doing coming in out of break. And this happens. Roll the audio right along with our official drive recap, or Julia Carol Veta. And this drive recap brought to you by BC on play. What do you got? What do I got? What do I got? Yeah. Visit BC on claim.ca to find out if there's unclamed money.
Find your name checking his free quick and secure. Get off your phone. It's all you do on the breaks. Run the Twitter. You're on the YouTube. I'm trying to keep up with what people are saying. But you're right. It didn't hear anything. I'm getting old, buddy. Every show I do, Taylor, never listen to me. You don't listen to me. No, I listen. Dolly, while you can relate, right? Taylor, not listening to you. Your co-host, not listening to you. Okay. Was he on the cell phone, though, seriously? Oh, he is on his phone all the time during breaks. On the exam table. On the exam table. He's on Twitter. He's on TikTok. He follows some woman who cooks pasta. And let's just say she's scantily clad. Oh, you would never do that. And he's talking about the pasta, not the woman. But anyway, it's just, it's ridiculous how much time care about it spends on. He's like a teenager. Wow. Okay. No comment when it comes to you and I working together. And who is on his phone more? I don't even want to bring up Dollywall.
Oh, Dollywall lives on his phone so I can relate. All right. What do you want to talk about? Okay. What your opinion of the connox two and two after four games, entertaining, fast, EP 40 improvement, Paul Carter? Come on. What do you think, Moch? Yeah. You know, it's interesting. I don't know if you had Ray on after the Edmonton game or not. But I was in the room and Ray was there obviously doing the game that night. And he was just talking about what a different vibe. It was just a different feeling, a different vibe. And I'll tell you this, I talked to a few of the players and the guy that impressed me the most again, Zeeb Boom. It's, it, it, go on. It's just amazing. It's like, Quink uses here for what? Five years. I don't think I had one conversation that rivaled the conversation that I had with Zeeb. We talked about team building. We talked for like about three, four minutes, five minutes. And it's just, it was enlightening. The kid gets it. And you know, he was talking about this team and the chemistry that they have. And he says, you know, in certain teams, there's cliques. I mean, the European guys, the Swedes hang out, the Swedes, the Americans hang out with
the Americans, whatever. He said with this team, it doesn't matter. Everybody hangs out off the ice together. Everybody gets along. Oh, there's no we goes. And from what we're hearing and it's early, but man, the chemistry of this team is it's, they're heading in the right direction. They're just doing the right things in terms of team building, in terms of, you know, including people. I heard a story about the sedines. Donnie, I'm so direct. I could tell you the story, you know, off the air, but let's just say that there's a member of the organization who wasn't really part of it with the under the Rutherford regime. And the sedines said, no, you are going to be involved now, right? Like they're making everyone feel important. Everyone feel like they have a stake in it. It's, it's just, it's really refreshing. It really is. It's going to be interesting to see how this team moves, how this team goes moving forward. So you believe the future is bright for the, it could act based on the fact Zib William talked to you for three or four minutes.
No, what is that? What we talked about is what makes me feel good about the future of this team. They just have, they have people to get it, right? People that understand what it takes to build a winner and they're committed to doing it. And like I said earlier in previous hits, there's alignment. Whether it's the sedines, whether it's Ryan Johnson, Mani Mahotra, the players, I was talking to Gallagher about, I was talking to Gallagher about, you know, the, the coaches skating with the players during drills. And yeah, that, I mean, they show that they're invested that the players really notice that and they believe that their coaches are invested when they just stuff like that. And it was funny. Brandon was telling me that there are a couple of coaches that were in the training room afterwards, getting treatment and some ice bags. It wasn't Malhotra, but a couple of the assistants, I guess, were kind of hurting after some of those skates. But yeah, it's just, it's just a real good vibe around that team right now. I know it's early and they haven't really gone through a lot of adversity yet, but all things are trending in the right direction. Good vibes also with the British Columbia Lions.
I'm going to tell you, Moch, I had them pick to win. I didn't say anything because I don't want to do predictions anymore. But in that fourth quarter, I had them, I had them, I said to myself, they're going to win this game. And I told you that too, Donnie. So anyways. So we show some of the texts that you sent us. No, Donnie sent the text in the last minute Lions game. And wow, they're going to blow it. They're going to blow it. And I said, Donnie, stop. They're going to win. They're going to win, Bob. The eight and one in their past nine, you got to believe, you got to believe. You know, it's, yeah, you do have to believe in. There's something special about this Lions team. You know, we're talking about chemistry. We asked Sean White on the post game show, you've been around this league for a long time. How does this team feel in terms of, you know, the camaraderie, the chemistry? And he talked about 2015 in Edmonton. And he said, this unit right now, this team surpasses the chemistry that they had in Edmonton in 2015, which is pretty big considering this guy's been around the league for 20 years or so.
So there's something special going on with this team. It's just, and I'll tell you guys who's really made a difference for this Lions, particularly for this team, particularly on defense as Darnel Sankey. He has just brought the level, the standard to be met at, you know, it's here, right? And we were talking about, again, the Sankey post game last week during practice. It was one of the first practices of the week. And Sankey gathered the group up after practice. And he said, hey, look, you know, I know everyone wants to have fun and go out and go do stuff and, you know, practice hard, but he says, where we, where we were at the start of this practice is unacceptable. He said, fun is fun, but you got to work hard when you're having fun. And we weren't working hard. And that's not acceptable. And we can't come out and prepare like that again. So he holds his teammates accountable. He's just a special player. And, you know, as much as people are talking about Sankey and, you know, the numbers he's putting up this year and what he's brought to this team, let's not forget about the
two guys in the middle and Jonah to vine case he sales because there's a reason Darnel Sankey's making all those tackles. Because those two guys are not allowing the offensive lineman to get to the next level and get to Darnel Sankey. But, yeah, and you talk about additions and key additions. Man, Darnel Sankey probably could be one of the biggest additions that the Lions have had here in the last few years. Bob, they control their destiny. And so three games left. If they went two out of the three, they get that second place and they get the host to play off game. So it's up to these guys now that they don't have to rely on anybody. And two out of three and they're in. Yeah, I mean, they control their own destiny. It would have been nice to see Hamilton win against Edmonton in that game in overtime because had that occurred, all Edmonton had to do was lose one game and the Lions run the table and they would finish first given the fact that they hold the tiebreaker on the Edmonton Elks. It was a two game series that was split, but the Lions have the tiebreaker on point differential. So, you know, it's too bad that Hamilton couldn't get the job done.
The Lions might even have a sniff at finishing in first, but right now second place looks like we're going to wind up unless something crazy happens up in Edmonton. But yeah, I mean, hosting a playoff game and I'll tell you what, I've said this. I said this on a sports talk show and Saskatchewan a couple of weeks ago. I said, put it on the board. I said, anyone who plays in Edmonton will be Edmonton, whether it's the Lions, whether it's Calgary, whether it's Saskatchewan, whether it's Winnipeg, I don't care. Why do you say that? I'm not sold on Edmonton. I mean, a lot of their success has been predicated on turnovers. And if you can play a clean game against Edmonton, you will beat them. And I think when you get to the playoffs and if you play a clean game, you will be Edmonton. And they haven't been there before. This is a team that's new to winning, right? How are they going to react to the pressure of the playoffs? So yeah, and like I said, to me, I don't see the Elks coming out of the West. One more, they host Ottawa, the Lions on Friday. What are the concerns going up against the all in 15 team?
They are professional football players. Yeah. And you know, you talk about the process. We always hear that term. Man, the Lions better follow the process this week because the Ottawa Red Blacks, you know, they're a pro team. And I think this is a team that's got to win a game, doesn't it? I mean, you can't go on 18. You would think that somehow some way they would find a way to win a game. Is it in BC? I don't know. The one thing I think that hurts the Red Blacks though, moving forward here in the last three games of the season is that they're going to be churning a lot of people. They've been churning the roster the last couple of weeks. They're moving people in and out, seeing who can play. And as a result, you don't get the cohesion that you would if you had, you know, players that are playing on a regular basis. So the churning hurts them. But at the same time, it's something that they have to do to evaluate talent moving forward in for 2027. Oh, it's standing moge. Friday, Lions, Ottawa, you've got the call on 730, CK and W. Thanks for doing this.
We'll talk to you next week, buddy. And hopefully, and hopefully, Caraveta will be listening like always. Yeah. I'll give them a call. Thanks, Bob. Have a good day, guys. You bet. Okay. Also, we should mention that there's been, is it changes to the CFL schedule when it comes to playoffs, Ryan? Is that right? I believe so. I think the only change, I think the times were not announced previously. They just announced times. I think that's okay. So, of interest is if indeed the Lions end up finishing in second place, which I think if you're a betting person, that would be a pretty safe bet or pretty good bet at the very least, 130 kickoff at BC place, Lions and whomever, the Connux play at what four o'clock that day against a Toronto. There'll be some people doing with a possibility of a double dip, depending on the length of the football game. Right? Halloween. Halloween. Halloween. Again, who's booking the Toronto Vancouver game?
Is it the NHL? Is it sports net? Well, so the four o'clock starts of all. It becomes somewhat of a tradition with the Leafs and Connux in Vancouver. I don't, that'll hurt the Lions. I've grown to like the four o'clock starts with the Connux. Or even when the Lions play four o'clock games, when it comes to the Connux and Leafs, I don't like the reason for it. Can you go into that Eastern audience? Can you go into Dreamland with me? If there was better... What are you proposing? Yes. Yes. Synchronicity between the teams and the leagues and all that, the Connux would move to five o'clock. Yeah. Yeah. But that's pie in the sky, A happened in talking at all that, but make sure it's okay with the Leafs. You see it with other leagues and other teams that it's a, hey, the Red Sox are playing into the Bruins and moving or whatever. It's not going to happen here, but I'm about saying it's the CFL playoffs. Canadian teams, you know, don't play that day or whatever. I mean, but there's never any help from these guys for the Lions or the CFL. It is what it is. The Leafs or anybody in Toronto would probably make that move if the Buffalo Bills were
involved in the offer, but not the BC Lions. That's what my prediction would be. Okay. All right. We've got to use the poll question yet. We have a new sponsor for the poll question, let's reduce the poll question and the new sponsor. Next, don't need to all the team on check. Shout out to former NHeller, minor hockey coach out there in South Delta, Ken Priestley of Dunbar Lumber and we thank them for jumping on board. Pull question, Rick. And so happy to have them on board. This is our Dunbar Lumber poll question. What statistic is more impressive with EP-44 games? You got the 19 hits. I think he leads the NHL there or you got the six points. He's top five in the NHL with 0.6. So 53% say more impressive with the hits. 48% say the points. Pretty even. Look, Dunnie, he didn't get 11.6 for hits. He got it because he had 100 points in a national hockey league season. I'm going with the points because he dropped from 150 points last two seasons. If he can keep this up it's early. It's only a four game window. We know that. They got a huge top road trip coming up.
Carolina, Florida. You got to go through the New York teams. We'll know more after the six game road trip. But that's six points. Six points in four games. You know on a hockey club. He doesn't have two all-star wingers on his sides. Oh, no. Stop it. Stop it. You know, so give him credit. Give him credit. The other element to Leus Pederson's game that has been impressive so far. I would have guessed that his shots on goal and attempts totals would be larger than the R9 shots. 14 attempts through four games. But there seems to be more of a willingness to shoot than there has been over the last two, two and a half seasons or so. And that's really, that's so important to him because this just in, we've forgotten because it's been a long time since he's unloaded his shot on a regular basis. Again, I thought the totals would be a larger, but he's shooting more. He has.
When he has a chance to shoot, he shoots. And that what, that has him in the case for so long. I think we forgot about it. That along with the point totals and the hits have been really impressive. Look at us. Look at us. Leus Pederson left and right. Okay, also positive news with the connection. Again, they have a bit of a break here. Then off to Carolina for a game thurzed against the defending Stanley Cup champions. The first of six games, as Rick mentioned on the road. But you had some news about a couple of promising connoct prospects. Let's start with Caleb Maholtra. Caleb Maholtra, Boston University. They're up in Alaska. Beautiful Alaska, Donnie. Over the weekend, his first two games, big jump from, Ryan, big jump from junior to the NCAA, your playing 23, 24 year olds. And look at this. The kid I'm telling you right now is this the goal. Ryan, is this the goal? Yeah. Okay. So Ryan's giving me a hack because he scored an empty netter. But what Ryan doesn't know is who's on the ice protecting that lead.
A rookie named Caleb Maholtra. You got to have confidence from the coaching staff to be on the ice in that situation. This is his first college goal. First college goal. It's an empty net. And by the way, he played power play. He played the PK. He played a good as my, my source in Alaska says he played. What? I got a guy in Alaska watched the games. I'm telling you, he said he played a good. You've got a guy in Alaska. I got a guy in Alaska who watched the games and I asked him this morning, texted him. I said, I'm not going to give you the name. But anyways, my guy in Alaska, is he the guy that used to drive the Kinex plane? No, he texted us. He confirmed the story. Right. So anyways, what a story. Paul, Paul, Paul, it was a great guy. I ran into Paul. Anyways, Maholtra, a good 200 foot game on the weekend. That's what my guy tells me in Alaska. Braden Coots and Paul's not the pilot. Paul's the pilot. Rob is the pilot. No. Yes.
Rob, yeah, right there. Rob. The pilot. Who's Paul? So Rob, the pilot ran into me at the gym. Okay, we've got three things. Okay, that's right. Rob, just texted us. So anyways, let's go where we going now. Brain Coots. Let's go to Coots. And Ryan had a problem with this goal too. Yeah. What's wrong with you? Well, he's wondering if you're going to show every goal to these guys scores. It's the first ones. It's important. So here's Coots and Calgary. By the way, the empty seats was anybody there. Anyways, Coots, watch this along the boards. You'll watch this, Johnny. The pilot just, what do they always tell you? Shoot. Just get it on that. You never know what's going to happen. It went through 40 bodies. So anyways, there's Coots. What did your guy in Alaska say? It's. Is it so hard to have a guy in Alaska? Like, come on. I don't. I lived up North. I don't have a guy in Alaska. You didn't go to Alaska though. You were in Alaska. I know, but I'm in a white horse. Pretty damn close. So anyways, anyways, Coots, a first goal. By the way, Abbasford, they split the games on the weekend.
What do they do in Calgary? In Calgary. I think they lost both. They lost both. Yeah, they lost both. They're not a good start. But anyways, you're hot, man. You are just. Hey, that's good. We got those in. No, it is important. You're right. And I want to mention this, OK? Yeah, go. Because you know where I live and what I've done, hockey wise, what was last month, not recently, but for a long period of time, helping coach Port Moody Minor hockey. You got a hell of a job there. And, well, I don't know about that. But Parker Alcos, Kinnock Prospect, Sixth Round Drive, picked a couple of years ago, played his first couple of games with Quinnipiac. He got one goal and one assist. His first game with that team for him. The Bobcats, one goal and one assist. They beat New Hampshire, 10-2 and followed that up with a win over Mary Mack on Sunday of the score of 6-3. So a little Kinnock Prospect update for you, courtesy myself. You and the guy in the guy in Alaska. Oh, stop it. You're the guy in Alaska. Shout out to Jeremy and Langley, Wattling Dog in Box.
This is somebody that clearly is a mass fan of the show. So we've got to give Jeremy a shout out. Rick's guy in Alaska, Gary Beardsley. Oh, he's Beardsley. Oh, good. The Moose Caller. Oh, good ass. Yeah. We have a lot of them this year. No. Although I'm going to guess by the way he talks that Gary Beardsley is Canadian. Yeah, I think so. OK, that's fine. OK, what have we got here? Well, one other thing Kinnock related that we didn't imagine. Oh, the three stars of the week. And then it's called a codder. It came down as the show was beginning. So Igor Shasturkin is your first star of the week. Second star of the week. Evan Boucher, third star of the week. Paul Codder. Now, Igor Shasturkin got a goal last week. And in a cyst. He's on a point streak. Shasturkin. Shasturkin, three and one. After being shut out in their first game, Shades of last year. And then they bounce back. His Paul Codder's goal against Vegas. So he's got a goal in the power play. One short hand and one game winner. I mean, this guy, I know people are talking about what to do with him. He's on a one year deal. It's very early. But the Kinnock's cannot.
There was a lot of teams after him July 1. He picked Vancouver for this very reason. Power play, penalty killing, opportunity on the ice latent games, on the ice and overtime. He wasn't getting that New Jersey. He's getting the opportunity. And given credit, first game, fourth line, 11 minutes, second game, 60 minutes, third game moved up to the top six. Good for him. He seems pretty happy to be here. So you think it's OK to go to the gym, sick and cough?
Sweat it out. Sweat it out. Sweat it out at home. You don't need to go to the gym to sweat. You're familiar with that. Do some laundry. And fall down the stairs. I didn't fall. I just twisted my ankle. Abel. Abel. Abel. That's you. Yeah, that's me. Yes. And you, Moj is right. Listen, I know. You know, I got to say, well, I'm not on the phone or anything like that. That we've been inundated with new clients. There's a lot of things going on. I got to spend it. We can't appreciate enough. And I'll tell you who's been with us from day one. Great guy. What a show today. I'll tell you, it's Monday. We should be playing the Bangles Manic Monday, because that's what it is. Anyways, good town rats. I don't like Mondays. What other songs were Monday in it? Call of Mamas in the Popus. Monday. Oh, that's a good one. Lomas in Popus. But Manic Monday by the Bangles. Yeah, that's good. The Vancouver Connects were open. They're home schedule last night. Oh, right. This is the... Oh, it's the Iron Frightening. Yes, it really is. Yes. Oh. He did this stuff, right? I did. You did not update the car. No, I know. Okay, so we'll add limb, man. I can only read what I read. Add limb. Mr. Ford's saying John F. What's your... I'm a 6-game road trip on Thursday. Donnie, donnie, let me get through this. Connects, I'll tell you, boy, get ready and hit. Yeah. So the Connects, they're gonna be kicking off a 6-game road trip. Stop, you're doing this, okay. Let me read... No, you do pastime here. I'm with Ryan, Mr. Ford's saying John.
No, no. Show us how it's done. Live reads are live reads and I can only read what is live. Let's do pastime sports then instead and I'll update that for later. How about that? Why? But you should have had it done this. I wanted it to be done properly and that ain't happening right now. Okay, let's go... Are we flipping over to pastime? Are you okay with last time? This is live read TV. We're gonna do pastime. Pastime? Just so you know, we do a show between 10 and 12, Monday through Friday. Anyways, here we go. Let's start this. BC's number one sports memorabilia and gaming shop. Pastime sports, Wednesday night. That's not the right way. We're heading to pastime's Langley location for their Upper Deck NHL 2026. Where are the visuals here? Series one release party. Ryan, where's that guy? Get this stuff. Pastime is hosting collector and hockey fans from 5 to 8 p.m. for this special release party. Gonna be prizes given out during the event. Food, beverage available with the purchase of one Upper Deck Hobby Box. So there you go. I watched that past the Upper Deck or Hobby Box.
Ryan, what's a Hobby Box? It's the Box of Hearts. Right there, right? Yeah. So you got to be a band name. There's gonna be food, beverages, everything available. You stepped on one of that one too. In front of the laptop, aren't you teaching kids? No, stop it. It's his drop to update reach. It wasn't updated. Yeah, but you got a flow. You have this. I can't really read what's in front of me, Don. The member of Be the In front of the laptop is the MVP Upper Deck Cards 2026, 2027. With KarnatBradyrder on the right. Card of the day is Dylan Larkin. The reason I brought this card of the day up. So I've got this clip, we'll run in a second here. This is from their home opener. Saturday, Red Wings. I don't know what the empty seats. No, I'm talking about the reaction to Larkin, or I've hit the clip here. Hey, number 71, Dylan Larkin. Hey. Hey. Hey. Hey. Hey. Hey. Hey. Hey. Hey. Hey.
Hey. Mythalky, then I do. Can you recall a player on a home team getting boot? That loudly ever? Like nothing came to mind for me. And if you don't know the backstory, he requested the trade in the off season. Ron Settlebar got boot one time with a call scene. Ron Settlebar. I don't like that. That is, and he walks away. He's been the franchise player for a long time. But the reality is, the perception out there is that he's quit on the team. Exactly. After signing, you're going to be contract. And goodbye. Hello, Buck and Winnipeg. He'd get the same reaction. He would. He would. And I mean, whenever, whatever happens, I was thinking about that. Like, when is that going to get resolved? They're just waiting for some team. But you know, he was injured. They didn't have to do that. He didn't have to stand there. So I've got to, I've got to, I've actually got a tweet here. There's the smartest move to have him there. He was injured. He didn't have to be there. So this is Todd McClellan.
This tweet, this is post game. It was his choice to stand on the bench during opening night introductions and face the booze. And look, it looked like he realized he made the wrong choice within a half a second. I will say, sorry, go ahead. He says he feels bad for him. I'm not going that far. I don't really feel all that bad for him. If you ask these are the ramifications, and that's what McClellan points out. I will say, I do give him props if it was his idea for taking the bullets, because it's public. It's out there. It's all that. If you're, who knows where this thing gets resolved? That's the other part. I mean, much like Halibut. I'm going to play some little on him, obviously. Yeah, but once I kind of feel like asking price is high. That's a problem. And once games get going, you get forgotten about in our area. Like I know where you are forgetting. Look, the barcov situation in Florida. Yeah. OK. So out for a significant amount of time. What? Three to four months? Three to four months. What's the latest leg injury?
Knee injury injuries happen. Yeah. Somebody's going to want Dylan Larkin. Somebody's going to want Connor Halibut. Somewhere down the line. But it's obviously a contender. But are they going to have the, like, Florida's not going to have the pieces to pay for Dylan Larkin. Everybody thinks that the wild, right? Because he's also a huge buddy. But if you're Bill Garen, which American player isn't a huge buddy? Well, there's that. But if you're Bill Garen, are you going to pull the trade on and pull the trigger on another massive trade? Yeah. Well, involving a player who might lead. Exactly. In the summer. Exactly. Or before that, if you trade him. I don't know. But I had, like, you know, you see this clip. I see the clip. Oh, we got booted. And I'm like, OK, that was overwhelming. Yeah. You know what? I have to admit, I watched a lot of sports on the weekend. I didn't see that. That was overwhelming. Like, it's not a mix. I'm with you. I don't know if I've seen that that ferocious from the home crowd. And there was other things that played the chance of sell the team. Like, the Red Ring fans are fed up with that organization, man. They were losing three nothing to win a pitch. Yes.
Then sell the team. They're really pissed at the ownership in Detroit. And now their star defenseman wants out. He's holding up. He's sitting in Sweden. Yeah. Very bad situation in Detroit. Yeah. Not great. Not great. I meant to talk about the Golden Eyes jerseys. Maybe we'll do that later on as the show goes on, because we're up against the time wise. I've changed my opinion on the colors. I don't mind them. OK. I'll show a later. More on that later. Craig Button, TSN's director of scouting is on the program next. It's Donnie and Dolly, the team on check. Hey, everyone. It's Donnie and Dolly. And we're looking to partner with your company. As we bring in Craig Button, T.S. Hanz Scotting Director, Craig, thank you for doing this, sir. How are you? I'm great. And I think I'm just going to borrow from the killers from their song, Mr. Brightside. That's going to be my kind of new nickname. I'm Mr. Brightside. We know that. I look at glass half full optimism. That's where I'm going to be at. Unless there's something really, really significant that has to take a little bit of a negative spin, I'm going all Mr. Brightside. This is going to last about two or three days. And that's it, Craig. We know the business. Hey, before we get to the connox, speaking of the Brightside, things are pretty positive for them. Despite a two and two start, people are pretty happy. But we find out this morning, it's not really a surprise, that this will be Alex Vetskin's final National High
League season. Do you remember going way back your scouting report on him early 2000s? Yeah, it was 02, and I'll never forget it. I mean, he came in and he was a younger player. And he had, you know what he was? He was the big puppy dog. He was all this energy, all this enthusiasm. He was licking everybody, jumping up on everybody. But that is exactly what he was when you first saw him. And he was this energy field. He had all in this force field of initiative, of skill, of power. And obviously over time, it became a little bit more organized and a little bit less chaotic. But you saw it right from day one. And the power, I remember talking to Chris Ponger at the06 Olympics in Notruino. And Ovachkin was just a rookie that year, playing for Russian the Olympics.
And I remember I was talking to Chris and Chris said, he was, wow, he goes, this guy can go around you. He can go through you and he can go over you. And I'm thinking to myself, is this Chris Ponger talking about that? How do these other ordinary defensemen feel? But that's exactly what you saw. And then what we've seen in the time since is just a brilliant goal sclerk. And everything that you saw at first, nothing was different as time went on. Safe to say this is obvious. He's exceeded expectations, Craig. Oh, no question. I mean, you knew he was an outstanding goal scorer. But anybody that goes, I never thought Wayne Greski's record would ever be broken. I thought 894 was a safer record. I thought there was two records that Sydney at Wayne Greski had that would never be broken. 894 and 19 consecutive seasons averaging a point per game. So Ovachkin broke the goal record. And Sydney Crosby broke the consecutive seasons with a point per game.
And you think about them coming to the league in O5, following the lockout. What they've met for the league during that period of time, what they continue to mean to the league. And I know it's a little bit of a stretch. I get it. But I like to say it anyway. I would love to see 887 retired across the league. And maybe it doesn't have to be retired, but maybe it needs to be, yeah, honored in some way, shape or form, because coming out of a lockout, the NHL needed some juice and needed a boost. And number eight, the grade eight, and Sid the Kid, they delivered. Hey Craig, the Kinox 2 and 2 start. What do you make of what you have seen so far from the Kinox in the four games? So here's what I'm going to say. The 2 and 2 record, whatever the goal is for it goes. I think the spirit of the team is outstanding. And you know, we watched them play, and we know there's going to be some shortcomings at different points during the games, when you're playing against competition, that's right at this point in time,
a little bit more talented. The teams are a little bit deeper, but the spirit of the team, and I'm going to go back to the end of last year, that they talked about how the group and co-lest around one another, how they had a good vibe about them, and players talk about that, but I really took notice of that, because when you hear it at the end of a season, where you've struggled, where you haven't achieved at a very high level, and players are talking like that, I thought that was a good sign, and I think they've carried it forth into this season. I mean, obviously, finding a way to win that game in Edmonton on opening night after being up by three goals, the way they came back against Edmund in a couple nights later, where it didn't look good. And then obviously, lanes down one, that's in the third period, play a great third period, and then I thought they had a really good game against the Vegas gold nights, and certainly, I think there's everything to be positive about where you see the connects right now. Tune to record some younger players playing well,
some newer players playing well, and I don't think anybody should be anything, but happy to watch EP 40 the way he's playing. Well, I was gonna ask you, 19 hits, six points, 12 block shots, engagement levels are high, just what are you seeing from him? What is your difference? Is there something you're seeing, he's doing now that he didn't do the last two years? Engagement, Rick, that's the work. He's engaged. He's not playing on his heels. He's playing with a focus that I'm gonna get after it. I'm gonna play on my toes and whether it be delivering the hits, whether it be getting on the puck, whether it be getting those chances. To me, that engagement is the key to anybody's game. And I said this at the outset of the season. All I wanted to see was some semblance of EP 40 getting back to what he was. And it was interesting. I saw something today and I don't know where it came from. Well, he's explosive speed and numbers are still not up.
Listen, if that's what you're watching for, continue to look for that. He's engaged. He's involved in the game. More, most importantly, he's a factor in the game. Paul Carter, four goals. They this guy, not many people thought about him on July 1st, Craig. And all of a sudden, he's come in gang busters and it looks like the best thing that Conox did on July 1st. Well, Maddie Mahalchra, I thought I'd had a really good comment. No preconceived notions. Let the player show us what they're capable of. And then me as a coach has a responsibility to put them in those situations where they've shown they can have success and where they can excel and ultimately help the team. And I think that's a great approach by Maddie. But Paul Carter has done all of that. So you got him playing on the penalty kill. You got him playing it over time. You got him on the power play. Paul's a competitor. And it has been something significant. I mean, if you just, if I just take that over time
winning goal in Edmonton on game one. And I just think about everything he did on that play, the pounding of the puck, the stain on it, not giving up. That to me embodies what the Vancouver Conox want to be this year and what they've shown me through four games. They're not quitting. They can be down six one. They're not quitting. They're going. They're playing. And I love that about him. It doesn't, you don't want to be behind six one. You don't want to give up three goal leads. But this team plays and they play hard. And I think Paul Carter has been a great example of an individually for the group. Tough NHL news over the weekend. Over 1000 NHL games won the cup with the Habs in 93. Blue Jackets first captain. He was with team Canada at the 96 world cup. Your memories of Lyle Oedline who left us again on the weekend at age 58, former WHL. Yeah, I mean, I knew Lyle. I didn't know Lyle well. But everybody tells you and you should.
I'm sure everybody's heard it by now when a character he was. But he was a character, but he was a fierce competitor. Listen, I believe he was a seventh round draft pick. He ends up not only winning a Stanley Cup, he plays a thousand games first captain for the Columbus Blue Jackets. I think it just speaks volumes about Lyle who gave himself every single opportunity to be the best he could be. I don't know if people remember his older brother Selmar who was a first round draft pick in the NHL. Selmar was a was a terrific, terrifically talented player. He ended up with some knee injuries. And I think that obviously that was something that held Selmar back. But I think Lyle, you know, when you have when you're a younger brother and you're looking up to your older brother and you're trying to figure out, okay, what do I got to do to keep up and find a way? I think Lyle embodied that finding a way attitude. I mean, should we be surprised that you grow up on the prairies? You grow up in the communities that kind of give you an experience
of what it is to fight through adversity, to fight through some different challenges. And is there any greater example than what he had to go through when he had the organ transplant and was in a calma for 40 days and then lived for another 10 years? I think that fighting spirit, that find a way to get stuff done, that was Lyle on. Yeah, we all get into details here. Craig, well, we just talked about a tough, strange story for Lyle, give him what you were just talking about. You mentioned his draft, the seventh round draft picked back in 86, seventh rounder, but of the player, all the players involved in that draft and there were more rounds back then. He played the seventh most games, 1,000 and 50, 56. That's saying something. So God, God bless him and Craig, thanks so much for doing this. We'll talk to you next week. Yeah, yeah, one thing I want to ask about Lyle. Will is a skills at Lyle had times of will. Yeah, well said.
Thanks, Craig, next week. Thanks, my friend. Craig Button, TSN, Scouting Director, some real positive things to say about the Vancouver Cox. Absolutely, and it's hard to be negative right now, Don. Hard to be negative. OK, we got to read here. No? OK, we'll take a break. Update the poll question next on $1.00 of the team. Uncheck. Connects 2 and 2. On Thursday, they start a six game road trip in Carolina poll question. Rick, right, get her up. The Dunbar lumber poll question, what's the statistic is more impressive with Ellie's Patterson through the four games? You got the six points, which is really good. And then you got 19 hits. He leads the NHL in 12 block shots. He's really engaged this year in a lot of categories, which we haven't seen. 50, 50 down the middle. We don't see this very often. But boy, oh boy, the physicality part, people are loving it. 19 hits, you know, in six points. He's off to a great start. You can't deny it, you know.
We've had our fair share of Goz Adam. You have. We've had our fair share of Goz Adam. But it's early. It's only a four. I'm not going to be in. I'm not going to be in. I apologize for that. I'm not going to apologize. We're not going to apologize. OK, I want to get to the golden eyes in a second. And I believe their new GM is meeting with the media today. But there's a Jersey announcement. But a Jersey leak. So we'll get to that in a second. OK, well, OK. Actually, let's show it now. Let's do it now. And then you can do your RBC read in a second. But this has leaked from back east, right, Ryan? Yeah. So the golden eyes started their existence, their first season in the PWHL with generic uniforms, which all PWHL teams have done, just the Vancouver script diagonally across the front of the uniforms. But we understand this will be their new look.
And originally, I didn't like these colors because that blue and bronze reminded me of, remember, the oilers changed to bronze and blue and red for a short period of time. And I just didn't think it worked in. Reminded me of that, but this looks, this is a way they did. And they threw the yellow in there, which looks really good. This is really nice. Did you like them or not? Oh, yeah. Well, the last year, but putting a logo on there, Donny, you nailed it. It's a great logo. It's a great name, too. Yeah, it's a great name. It makes a big difference. And it's a big year. Did their attendance last year, Don? I thought was one of the biggest stories in Vancouver. It was great. The Pacific Hall seems a beautiful place till the Watcher Hockey game. And they did really well. Lots of crowds of thousands. And they have a practice facility. They have a practice facility, which the current order the connox does not have. And apparently, isn't close anymore. And is apparently looking all over the lower mainland and apparently having trouble again. And on and on, we go. Meanwhile, you've got, and are best
looked to the golden eyes. You've got to read that you're going to give a second crack at. RBC is excited to be a proud partner of what will be an exciting new era for the connox hockey and its fans. Official bank of the connox RBC is excited to help fans and clients providing exclusive benefits, priority access, enhanced and experiences at Roger Serena bringing you closer to the connox than ever before. From in-game perks to re-imagined fan spaces, RBC is bringing you your ideas to life this season. Ideas happen here. Look at this, Donnie, right here. They happen at the... Can I get a forms? Yeah, RBC. Absolutely. You did better the second time. Yeah, because it was correct this time. The first time was, it wasn't correct. That's what happens. Meanwhile, we talked with the Craig Button about Alex Ovechkin. If you haven't heard folks, if you missed our previous segment with Craig or talk earlier in the day
or you're not on social media, Alex Ovechkin making it official today announcing that this will be his last NHL season. He's in his 22nd NHL season, 41 years old, all-time goal-scoring leader in NHL history in the regular season, of course, the Stanley Cup champion back in 2018. Do you remember this goal? We've got it here. This is January 16th, 2006 against the Phoenix Tigers. Yes, they were the Phoenix Tigers, not the Arizona Tigers, back then. And Ovechkin, part of the season in which he burst onto the scene of the National Hockey League. Remember, and I agree with what Craig had to say, he was drafted in 04, then there was no season. That's right, right? 2004, 2005, and really him and Sidney Cross, we had so much to do with resurrecting the NHL after the labor dispute, which really was horrible, obviously.
Capital's won this game, 6-1, and you'll know the answer to this question, Rick. And we just talked about him being the all-time NHL regular season goal-scoring leader. You know who was on the bench for the coyote, who their head coach was? We're in Gretzky. There you go. How about that? I bet you didn't know that. And by the way, when I would look at this, and I say it on myself, it's a good thing the capital's went back to the Red Whiteton Blitz. I didn't love the uniforms. They've resurrected it a couple of times. Brought it back. You know, retro type uniforms, but they made the right move on back to the old Red Whiteton Blitz. Makes sense for a team called the Washington Capitals. On a Vetskin two things. First, I'm glad he won a cup, or otherwise, it would have been Marcel D.A.N., right? You know, I played 20 odd years, no cup. And Khan of a David is facing that, right? Yeah, exactly. And so I'm glad that he won a cup, and he can say he was a cup winner. Two, his last game in Vancouver for all Vancouver fans will be December 7th. And they play in Washington, December 1st, the kind of stuff.
So there you go. December 7th will be the last time you will ever see Alexander of Vetskin in Vancouver. That's a Monday game. Yeah. They won that game, six won the capitals did over the coyotes. We mentioned that Wayne Gretzky was on the bench for the coyotes. His one go round is a head coach in the national hockey league. It didn't go all that well. Head coach of the capitals in, former Kinnock. Glenn Hanlin. Glenn Hanlin. Glenn Hanlin. The carrot. Yep. Absolutely. Okay. We're good, Ryan. Anything, any sponsors? Again, I can't keep track. No, there's a lot going on. No, it's a good thing. Yeah, we're good. Okay, DTMC next. Donnie Dollar, the TMI check. It's 1131 on a Monday morning. It is Donnie Dollar on Check TV now time for DTMC. Brought to you by the world famous Wister Golf Club. Go see Big Al out there. Great track, great track. DTMC brought to you by the Arnold Palmer Design Wister Golf Club.
So happy to announce their extensive golf course, Renault. Near completion, grand opening July 20th, 27th. But they're now taking group bookings of 12 or more for next season. Tell them about your group at WisterGolf.com forward. Slash groups at the North American Box Office, Rick Theaters. As stunner, very few people dug digger. Tom Cruise, John Goodman, big name director, intriguing trailers, all leading to a fifth place first weekend bomb. Just $8 million domestically, 12 million internationally. They're talking about this movie with Tom Cruise being one of the all time bombs. Oh, no. 51% had rotten tomatoes. 71% though, audience score. Top spot at 32.6 smell went to the debut of Verity, starring Dakota Johnson and Anne Halfway. And it's third week, resident evil came in second at 12.5. Hard of the beast. I want to see that.
Have you seen the trailer for that with Brad Pitt and the dog? I think I have. I think I have. Well, have you having? No, I got a check. I'm out. I'm out. What? Anything with an animal movie? Nope. 11 million, by the way. Well, look, I think I have movies not got passed something bad happening to an animal. No, I don't think they have. But I'm assuming they haven't. So I'm not even testing it. I'm still, you know, honestly, I'm still bothered by old yell. One of the saddest movies I've ever watched is My Dog Skip. Yeah. Do you remember that movie? Like early 2000s? I think back then, I just refused to watch anything. There might have been, you know, and we look, oh, we've gone through this, right? Oh, yeah. I mean, yeah, yeah. Recently with my eye and, oh, just, I don't want to think about prime time collected 8 million in a second week. That's the D-line one, right? That looks to catch a predator. Yeah. Yeah, it looks very interesting. Very interesting.
But this, Tom Cruise, not doing well. And I'm telling you, the trailer, when I first saw it, I thought, mom, this is- What's it about? What's bigger about? It's a satire, right? Yes. It's oil, baron wants to take over the world with the backing of the US president, and they get into some danger zones when it comes to environmental concerns. And I'm not explaining it well. No, but you're explaining it way better than I would have. OK, but- But- Because the trailer, I watched it, and I went, what is going on? No, but you're not, and there's that weird scene with a cat. Yeah, yeah. Like, there's a lot going on there, but big names, you know, Jesse Plemis is in it as well, I believe. Yeah, yeah. And I think it's a big name, I'm a breaking bad fan, but nothing relatively speaking. And they're talking about, you know, the jiggly type of bomb, or what was the one with the Brendan Fraser? Dudley Doewright. One of the greatest bombs of all time. Oh, no, one of the greatest bombs is Waterworld with Kevin Costner.
Horrible. I'm in the minority there. I kind of didn't mind it. You liked Waterworld? Yeah. Did you see it? No, everybody knows Waterworld. Are you kidding me? It was horrible. Did you see it or not? It took a costum over 100 million to do it. Yeah, that's, again, that's, look, a movie can be just, okay, it can be pretty good, but if it doesn't bring in anywhere near as much money as the budget, then it's considered a bomb. And that's right. It's going down, Digger is going down that avenue. Okay, birthdays, what is it today? October 5th. I know two of the birthdays here today. Because hockey-wise, I don't always remember this. It's one of the big days for NHL superstar birthdays. Have I got that right? Yeah, but I mean, if you go them, well, there's no way. Maybe I'm wrong. Maybe my memory's not serving me right. That's happening a lot these days. So you're saying the superstars? Go. This undrafted forward would play over 600 games in the NHL.
Signed by the Montreal Canadians, his hometown, early age, played for the Montreal Junior Canadians in 1961. Led the Junior Canadians in scoring twice. Those teams, by the way, had a von Kornwey, Jacques Lemur and Sir Tsavart on them. 12 years in the NHL, would bounce around teams, help the Blues to the Stanley Cup finals, where they would lose on the famous Bobby Orr goal. Delta expansion, Vancouver, 1970. Led the team in Vancouver Career High 66 points. Are you kidding me? Are you serious? You talk about this guy all year long. He would ultimately lead the team in scoring in four of their five-season. Andrea Boudreau. Yeah, that's right. Wow. The late, great. Andrea Boudreau, super pest. Yeah, I remember. You and I were. It was a song made about him in the first year. Top. The first year of the Vancouver Conox to the tune of spinning wheel. Yeah, Donnie and I remember on your Boudre. And only Bobby Schmotz. Donnie, and I loved Bobby Schmotz. Also the late, great Bobby Schmotz. Oh, did Don Cherry? Love Bobby Schmotz. OK, here we go.
This guy was the second on pick of the Norstars in 1980. He went straight from junior hockey to the OHL to the NHL. Which is slowed down. No, what do you want me to do? Which is not. He went from the NHL. No, the OHL to the NHL. Not easy for a goalie. He was only five feet nine inches. Gold tenors now. The kids in Phantom, they're six four. He would play 17 years in the NHL. He split gold tenning with Jill Malash. Oh, remember Jill Malash? He played in the 1981 NHL All-Star game. Played for the Norstars in the 1981 Stanley Cup finals. Remember John Casey? Nope, nope, nope. No, Casey was the guy. Don Bopre. Casey was the guy that Mario Lemieux beat on that beautiful goal. But the other goalie was Don Bopre. What a great final that was in 1981. OK, so apparently there's some superstars. Like, let's get some sizzling. I don't know what superstars he's talking about. I got Don Bopre. And I got Andrea Boode, we have former connoct. Maybe I'm wrong about this.
Yeah, you got to wait to Google. You got your birthday mix up. And you can't Google birthdays, then you're going to see what I got. What's one I'm going to? No, what's the date today? Star fifth. OK. Yeah, you got the wrong date. There's no NHL. I think you might have the wrong date. No, no, no, you got the wrong date. This is a bad week for birthdays. So I had to move it around, shift it around. OK, this guy was a third. What does that mean? You're giving us? No, sometimes I got to move and shift. Anyways, he was a third wrong pick of Kansas City in 2013. What chief, chief, chief? Kicked out a preschool for refusing to share a checker's game. Rick D'Allio-Wall. Checkers, gris, don't play checkers. I think checkers is one of the great brain, great games of all time. He was a three-year-old letter. Right up there with chess. Checkers is better than chess. I don't understand chess. He was a three-year-old letter winner as quarterback in high school. College and Cincinnati with the bearcats. Suspended from the bearcats in 2010 for a drug test, marijuana, and ineffective.
Rick D'Allio-Wall. No, no, no, that was 86, grade 12, NWSS. That's why he dropped in the NFL draft, the marijuana. Got busted. Got with the chief and Chong stuff. He recorded his first NFL touchdown on a 20-yard reception from Alex Betts. Well, Cincinnati's Travis Kelsey. Yeah, it's Travis Kelsey. Mr. NFL there. Are you serious? Unbelievable. I was waiting for a Taylor Swift clue. I didn't know all the trouble that he got into. Yeah, he kicked out of school for not sharing checkers. They had marijuana. Winnipeg quarterback. Collaros. Yeah, buddies. Frank, okay, Collaros. He's buddies with the Frank Galaros. Zach. Zach, Zach, Zach, buddy's with the guy. Who is Frank Galaros? Okay, I just stopped. He's your guy in Alaska. Frank Galaros sounds a whole lot better than Zach Galaros. Anyways, last one. This actress landed her first professional acting job at H10 in Sugar Puff commercials. Remember Sugar Puffs? Donnie? Good cereal, right? Anyways, one of her early hits
and it was the movie Sense and Sensibility with Emma Thompson in 1995. Good movie. At H3N. See, you never saw it. There's no way. Who doesn't know Sense and Sensibility? Stop it, Don. At A31, she became the youngest actress to receive five Academy Award nominations. She later won the best actress, Oscar for the reader. Remember the movie The Reader in 2009? Are you two serious? A big change in her career came with the science fiction romance, eternal sunshine of the spotless mind. The chimkary. Kate Winslet. Hey, you got it? Yeah. Arif Got it. Arif Got it. Oh, boy, Kate Winslet. She's in Titanic. Wasn't she? She's in Titanic. Yeah, absolutely. Why don't you make this segment a little shorter? This is what we're going to show you. What did you miss? Throwing that. Well, I'm pretty sure that October 5th, and I've been, it's Mary Lemuse birthday and Patrick Walsbury. No, no, it's not. No, it's not. No, it's not. I will Google that right now and I will bust you on the spot. Okay. October 5th hockey birthdays are not those two.
All right. Can you say you shuffle things around? Maybe not. No, stop, stop. October 5th right there. Nothing. Oh, yeah. I just did. Okay, hold on, let me do Mary Lemuse. Yeah, October 5th, Patrick Walsh. Eh? Yeah. No, there's no way. This is ridiculous. How would I miss Patrick Walsh? It's so bad. Mm-hmm. October 5th Mary Lemuse. But you got done, Bo Parade. I hold it a second. I got Andrea Boudre. Well, okay. Can I? I'll give you that. I did the can I? You don't do the obvious. I applied you for the obvious. It's hard. No, it's too easy for you. Okay. Okay, look at the time. Is it just me? 30 seconds. Brian Johnson, 79. He and ACDC are going to play us out August, 08. And the Vancouver made album Black Guys. This is ACDC and Rock and Roll Train on check. Crank it up and play it loud. On a BC Monday morning. Like I said, is it just me? It's next.

It's September 19th, 1943. You sure are changing things up from Don D. Also born on September 19th on bull prey. How do you get September 19th mixed up with October 5th? I got things mixed up. It happens. I got a birthday file and I went in the wrong file. Bottom line. You're excused. It all worked out. Yeah, it did. We're getting a lot of these. Texts of Connozary. Would the Connox have interest in Connozary, Rob and Victoria? Put on waivers. Wavres today by Calgary. Okay, so 3.7 million a year. I do not see the Connoxane. Let's take this. This guy's getting cut from the 32nd place team in the National Hockey League. He was healthy scratch last year in the year before. I'm not saying he's not a good player, but do the Connox need a guy making 3.7 million a year from the worst team in hockey? Get in cut. I don't see a fit there, but that's just me.
Okay, this is from Ellis in Park's Fill. Is it just me, but how soon before the Connox start playing the theme from Welcome Back Cotter? I mean, look, we shouldn't talk about this because they clearly don't listen to us when it comes to born to be alive, but Welcome Back Cotter. That's a gimmick. Come on. Ryan, that theme for that show, you know, Gabe Kaplan. John Sebastian, who was in Loving Spoonful, did the theme song to Welcome Back Cotter. He played a mean auto harp. Oh, boom, boom, Jeffery on, you know all the guys, a horse shack, John Travolta. He was in Boom Boom, John was going. No, Boom Boom Washington. Boom Boom Washington. Well, I was thinking, you were on my, today's Monday, I'm sick. Boom Boom Washington. I'm 20 with the L.U. I was in Boom Boom, Jeffery on, I was thinking about the Montreal great and horse shack Epstein and Gabe Kaplan.
Just stop right now. Okay. Okay. Okay. What do you got? Here's a text, the buddy of yours. You guys never appreciate further north. You talk about Forcing John. I work up closer to alert. The new but not always listening to you guys. The simple shout out would be cool. I grew up with Don Taylor. Who is that? Alert. There's no name. But he grew up with you. But we say Dossily Creek and Forcing John a lot. This is further north. Yeah, this way up there. Yeah. If you're going to be a good broadcaster, you have to work up north. Oh, good people up there. Really nice. Is it just me from Courtney Todd and I agree with this or are those green Abbey Kenax jerseys the bomb? He has some other things to say, but we'll leave it at that. The green Johnny Kenuck Abbey Kenax jerseys are so nice with the blue pants. Oh, yeah. That's a great text. I think the best uniform in Vancouver is the Abbey Kenax uniform.
I love it. You know, that green is so good. Right there, you made up for everything else that went along with it. I'm disappointed with the Lions Road uniforms. I don't like them. I'm sorry, Don. My kids love them. No, to bring some orange back, empire, bring the orange back. There's no orange in the Lions uniforms. Like, what are they doing? Yeah. That white uniform on the road is just, not good at all. I wonder about the play by play people like Moge. It's hard to see the numbers. Thank you. It's hard to see the numbers. With that. You know what my favorite Kenuck uniform is of recent vintage. They brought back a multi-striped uniform with the Johnny. They only wore them like six or seven times, a few years back. I don't know if they have a shot of them Orion, but they were navy blue and they had the Johnny Kenuck logo on them. And it was not white. The trim wasn't white. It was cream. I love those jerseys. We actually bought our family bought one. I'm glad we did. They have worn them since. I want more orange in the Lions uniforms. What's wrong with the rebuild? The winning the whole thing about losing to get a better draft pick.
Look what it did for a last year. Losing doesn't build a good culture. Winning does white rock droids. Great. The Kenucks, just because you think they're in a rebuild, they're not going to go into every game wanting to lose. They're trying to build the winning culture. In four games, Johnny, they've been in every game. They've been exciting. Even the 19 goals against Ableton, where they were horrible at the start. They come back and make it really interesting. The building was alive. That's one of the things we talk about on the show all the time. You want performances. You want players, coaches, whatever the case may be that wake up by that building. We got a shot of that jersey by any chance. You're the one I'm talking about, right? There you go. That one. That is a nice. It's not nice. This was at the NHL level versus Ableton's. But I always like these. But they're green version with the blue in the white trim. They're the Abuts for jerseys. Yeah, they're better. But this is such a nice look. Whoever did the Abuts for stuff is really good stuff, bang on. A break, I'm going to wrap up the show. And the poll question next, Johnny, do all the team want you? Catch another season of exciting Giants hockey at the LEC.

Ryan, get her up the Dunbar, a lumber poll question. Very simple today about Elise Patterson. What stat is more impressive with him through four games? The 19 hits are the six points and leading right now at 51% and 19 hits. But right behind is the six points at 49%. So far, small window four games, but Elise Patterson has been pretty good. Eighth in the National Lachel League in Blox, as we speak as well.
Connection, Carolina, to start a six game road trip on Thursday. Lions taking on Ottawa Friday at BC Place. That should be your win. White caps play tomorrow. Okay, what do you got? All right. Yeah, that's right. Where do you get this grunt? No, that didn't see Ryan didn't tell me. Here we go. Tired of slipping and sliding on your wooden dock. Fiver man to the rescue. FRP Fiver glass grading is becoming the go-to choice for marine dock spears and reps. The applications are endless. Boom. Look at that. Great. Look in. Great. Thanks so much to Rick and Fiver man. Yeah. Now you've got a photo or photos? We got a ton of photos. I'm going to get to my buddy, Dave and Cedar first. Good guy. In Tampa Bay, watch the box in the Packers game. How cool is that? Right, get the pickup. I brought along a D&D hat and his wife, if you look on the left side, you see a little bit of red. His wife did up. It says Donnie and Dolly, but then the on the side. It says Dave and Cedar. Dave and Cedar. His wife did that. A little bit red on the left. You can see Donnie and Dolly on the right. He's off to see the flyers and lightning tonight. He's open to run into Rick talk it. But that's my good pal, Dave and Cedar. Great guy. Good trip. It's a Dave and Cedar. One more? Yeah. This one came down actually on Friday. This is Rob and Kim. And they said they're cruising down to California on a cruise. Rob's got the D&D hat on there. I'm assuming it's from here, but they didn't specify where they were.
Cruising down tells you he's leaving back. Could be Seattle. Yeah. Could be Seattle. Why would a guy in Seattle have a Donnie and Dolly hat? Hey, we got lots of friends in Seattle. Are you for Ness? Lots of people down there. The height difference here looks like the clap cash ends. Yeah. Rob and Kim, thank you. Donnie, Dolly fans going down to California on star princess. Another photo or what are we doing here? Do you want to sneak in one more? Go, go, go. Okay, it's got to be fast. Hold on. This is from Francis. Got zero avenue. Yeah. Francis and her brother. Francis from Langley. Matt from Polko. And D&D. Look at this. Tukes. Hats. Love it. Love it. Francis, a big fan. She lives on zero avenue, which is I think one of the nice streets in Vancouver. Hey. Not many people get out there. Zero avenue is lovely. I mentioned quickly Whitecaps played a moral there in Chicago.
Tomorrow off the first of the five road games. Thanks so much for tuning in. Folks on behalf of Ryan. Barat. Rick. Everybody here at O'Boyn Check. I'm Don. You have to date in the world. What a show. I'm going to date the world of sports. Thanks for listening to the Donnie and Donnie podcast. Be sure to follow us on Twitter at Donnie and Donnie for all the latest show content.
