Oakland A's Shuffle Outfield with Clarke's Injury

0:00It's April 23rd. This is MLB News Today, powered by AI. You're around the diamond update. I'm Corey with the story. The Oakland Athletics just put center-fielder Denzel Quark on the 10-day injury list with a bone bruise in his right foot. They recalled Colby Thomas from AAA Las Vegas to fill the spot right before their loss in Seattle. This injury ties back to a nagging big toe problem Quark has dealt with for a while. He decided it was smarter to rest than push through the pain. Quark's having his first full big league season, shining in the field with elite defense, but struggling at the plate with a 170 average and striking out in 40% of his plate appearances. Fans and the team feel to hit since Quark's one of the best gloves out there. Lawrence Butler started in center today against Logan Gilbert, while Zach Gellof covered it the first two games of the series. Gellof, a natural second baseman, is shifting to the outfield after the A's grab Jeff McNeil for the infield. Looking ahead, Gellof should handle most center-field duties,

1:04with Butler jumping in sometimes and Carlos Cortez sliding to right. Thomas brings H2, hitting 309 with five homers and 17 AAA games this year. The A's depth gets tested now, but these moves keep them rolling without missing a beat in the outfield shuffle.
