And we're going to talk about the game records for Notre Dame. We're going to give our predictions of the guys that we either think will or we think should be game records.

2:02What is a game record? A game record is kind of kind of self-explanatory, but we'll kind of get into it. A guy that just kind of takes over a game makes a big impact in the game. It's a guy that says, hey, this was our game plan, but this guy wrecked it. This is our objectives and goals in the game, but this guy wrecked it or this group wrecked it or whatever. And you really need those kind of guys to play well. Perfect example of game records against Michigan State. Number one on Notre Dame's offense was Mike Gilbert. I mean, he was a game record. He took over the game and everything that produced or Michigan State was trying to do. He wrecked it because they said, hey, we're going to have to cover this guy one on one. That was their game plan because they were going to do what? We have get states involved, stop in the run. We've got to get safety involved, stop in the slots and Jordan Fazon. So we're going to have to do what? You have to make choices. So let's go ahead and see how we can do playing cover 14 and man coverage or single coverage when we do go zone. How'd that work out well for him? Didn't work out because Mike got wrecked the game. We talked about Bubacar. It was a game record and a fourth, second half of that game.

3:03That's what a game record is. So let's get into our game record, Sean. And we're going to start off on the offensive side of the ball. And you know where it needs to be this game? It needs, I'm not even going to go with the player first. It's a unit. It's time for the offensive line to show up and say welcome to the 2026 season. And if no name is going to win this game and that this isn't just about running the football. It's running the football. And as we said, protecting well against what I believe is a quality group of edge rushers. This is the best group of edge players that no name has played so far this year. Just saying something because their defense is bad overall. But they're, they're not as good in some other spots. But they are good on the edges like legit solid good football players. And so you got to, you got to shut them down. If you shut them down, C.J. Carr has time to throw. It's going to be a long day. But then also I want to see them come out. I just want to see them finally play bully ball. I want to see them take what they did at the end of the Wisconsin game and take what they did. Get the end of the Michigan State game where Michigan State, including 80,000 people inside the stadium.

4:03And a hundred people in the press box. And the millions of people watching at home all new. And they're going to run the ball right here. They're just going to run and try to run the clock out. Another name got to ball of 502 and used all 502 despite the fact. All 11 players on defense. All 69 guys in the sideline with uniforms on. All was in that like 30 coaches and analysts. 80,000 people to stands all new. I was coming and he's still continuing about it. I want to see that continue against Purdue. Because that's a better defensive line overall than what you're facing on Saturday against Purdue. So the first bit of game records. I want to see the offensive line finally step up. Finally step up and say, let's get this thing going. And look, does that mean all your problems are solved? No, because this is not a very good overall defensive line. And even the end so we like a lot. We like him as pass rushers. Right. Not quite as much as run defenders. So, but at least it's like, okay, at least you did what a really good offensive line should do against the not very good front. Because you know who else didn't have a very good defensive line? Rice. Yeah.

5:03And you didn't bully them. So it'll at least be a step in the right direction. So that's what I want to see in this first game. Yeah, I love that. And I think along those lines, you're going to be able to see them. Do it from an analyst perspective. But then I want to go to a game record that I think points back to the matchup you had. I think the slot receivers for Notre Dame. Combined great house and modeling ground are game records and it's matchup and it's very interesting. Because it seems like early on they established the field. And then they joined phase on. Then they established the boundary. And now it's time for them to establish the slot. It's almost like they're building piece by piece. And then hopefully that it shows the title. Yeah, I'm okay with that. That's what they're actually doing. Yeah, I'm just going based upon okay Jordan was the first two games.

6:05You got Michael Gilbert going last game. And now let's start integrating the title in the slots moving forward. And by the time we get to game six like now this is the total. Passing game that we built up and hopefully that's that is what we're doing. And hopefully that's what we see. And I think these slot receivers are going to be game records against Purdue. I dig it. I dig it. We talked about this a little bit earlier Sean, but the over under on Fandall for yards for. Jaden great house was 34 and a half in this game. So sounds like you're thinking you want to take the over on this one. And I really hope that you're right. And if it's my land gram is set at Jaden great house. I'll be kind of a little disappointed because it'll just tell me for the second straight year they're trying to phase out Jaden great house. I don't think that they are. I want it to be both of them. But I definitely you definitely need to get number one because as I've said a main times he has a skill set that nobody else has a receiver at least of the non freshman. So I want to see I want to see both of them get going.

7:05You're going to need Jaden great house and my land gram to win you some games this year. I want to see them finally get them going. I love I love that one. I love that one Sean. My next game record is the quarterback C.J. Car. And this kind of goes in line with what I said about the offensive line. It looks C.J. Car is kind of a game record every game when you look at his mind and they're getting the right checks and there's things he does in a game that don't show up in his personal statistics. I understand that. But when I'm referring to C.J. Car in this game I'm not talking about him getting in the right checks. I'm talking about I want to see C.J. Car be allowed not that he's not capable be allowed to get record game with his body with his skills with his own physical talent. I want to see that. And a lot of this we've talked about we've talked about you know the slot matchups. They've got a big corner Don Sanders who's like 64 doesn't run great if you want to take some and they play a lot of left right corner. So he'll be matched up against Jordan phase on a times. I'm sorry if you don't do some things to get him isolated in a chase situation Jordan phase on in a chase situation where that 64 215 pound kids got a chase Jordan phase on.

8:13Then I don't know what we're doing here at this point time. But all of it goes into the running back and tight end matchups against the linebackers you talked about earlier in the show Sean. It all goes back to let C.J. Car eat in this game. Let him work let him feast on this defense. I want to see it. And then if rice if if produce like hey we're going to drop eight fine now you run it down their throat. But put them in a situation where they have to make that decision. That's what I want to see so my game record C.J. Car and this is more about I just want to see them do it and let him do it more than it is they need him to do it to beat Purdue they don't. If no name is came to look C.J. is going to throw it about 15 times and that's it and we're and we're going to run it down their throat because we really got a stabs run. No name will still win this game. I won't be happy in the post game show unless he's like 13 to 15 for like 265. I mean you know I'm saying like there's always caveats but like they don't need him to win the game.

9:17But why not let him. You know he's your best player. Could you imagine if think about how fans would be reacting if no name was not using Leonard more to fit to his best skill set if they were just playing cover two all day or cover three all day where he just let's say they were doing with Leonard. More what Wisconsin was doing with their corners playing him eight nine yards off the ball and they're just bailing at the snap well nerd a fans reaction be I think it be pretty pissed. And like what is Chris Ash thinking how's that any different than what they're doing right now with C.J. Car. I want to see them let C.J. cook a little bit this week. You can expand that right because we've talked about we talked about their two wife receives like to stand that and hopefully the passing game we are the passing game that has a lot of yards have to catch that's creating explosive plays less diversifying the passing game and getting everybody involved not just a slot the tight ends and allowing the outside guys to continue to be effective as they've been through the first three games.

10:21You talked about C.J. being a game record and that means the wide receivers are putting in work as well and why receivers are out performing the counter parts on Purdue Purdue have been effective to start this year so I think it goes hand in hand you're looking at now one of the most explosive games. From the wide receiver core as you've seen if C.J. is a game record. Because to your point let's go back to the first one to Sean like they go together if if Jaden great house is a game record mean C.J. cars a game record they go hand in hand 100% unless they're like Jaden great house has five reverses for. I'm going to go up my third offensive game record Sean and I kind of I went back and forth on this and and minus Jaden great out my third one is Jaden great house you already said Jaden great house I'm a go at the novel and I'm going to kind of take I'm going to take a little bit of a different angle here and I want to see I want to see a tight end or a running back wreck the game in the past game doesn't have to be on a very good point.

11:29Doesn't have to be on a volume of catches but I want to see it in a situation where they're put into situation where they can make a big play I think of the 2018 Stanford game. I'm going to pull up the stats here because I don't think that I mean Dexter Williams comes back he has I mean was the first carry the season he rips off like a 50 yard touchdown and you know Ian made some big throws in that game to miles boykin and you miles had 11 catches for 144 yards he wrecked the game clay put a touchdown. But you you only had one target for Alex a Mac one that's it but what was it it was a bootleg throwback where he was wide open and caught it for 35 yard touchdown you remember that play I know you do because we've talked about it before I know why I'm asking that question of course you remember that play but it doesn't have to be volume it has to be a big plays. And he is Williams caught five balls against Penn State in the orange bowl nobody remembers four of them you remember the one you remember the big play I want to see some things in this game where the running backs in the tight ends or put in position to make some big plays in the past game to take from kind of what you said earlier since you already went with jaden great houses your your game record the beginning I'm going to I'm going to look at that with two I'd like to see that because I mean big thing is do you need it to beat Purdue know.

12:46But I'm a believer that you give the opponents that as much as they can to have to worry about. Like that's where I'm at give him as much as possible after worry about and then see where the chips fall at that point time so that's my third offensive game record you got anybody else Sean in your office game records I'll double down on what you just said I think that's going to be very important just goes to the overall theme of what we've been talking about with the evolution of the past game absolutely. Yeah let's talk defense Sean and we've talked about a lot of different players but I'm going to start off with a young man up front and I'm going to go interior I'm going to go Francis brew is going to be my first game record I'm just picture in Francis brew going up against their guards who've been okay is the kid that transferred in at right guards been a solid player their center left guard not not as great I want to see Frank I think this is a game where Francis brew could have a monster game. Run game wise and past game wise and I tell you I don't I never knew this kid coming to high school but just listen to him talk last night I just.

13:53Seems like a really unique kid and just his appreciation for being at Notre Dame did you see his eyes light up like it was Christmas when people are asking him about being in front of things like oh this is so cool this is so great I'm like this kid is just having a fun being at Notre Dame man and I want to see him actually go off on Saturday and I think he will I think from a matchup standpoint. I think they're going to have a hard time with Notre Dame's interior players as a whole I think Mike Marmel is going to make some plays I think Tion Grace going to have a big day big day but I think that Francis brew is going to make some big time play plays in the backfield you were talking about this earlier some big time plays in the backfield against the run and I think there's going to be some times where boobacar and or Bryce or Logan or Keon Rodney one of those ends is going to get a sack on Saturday because of Francis brew if he's not getting himself so I think just being able to recognize. We just say this all time to be great on offense you need to be you know a defense you need to be great up the middle why because that is where you can disrupt an offense the most if you can beat them up the middle and forced the ball to the perimeter that's a win for you especially if you have the kind of speed that

14:59Notre Dame has on defense they've been doing that with the run game well how how do you do that we have to have gap control but if you try to have gap control but your defensive tackles aren't aren't putting in work it's not going it's not going to matter. You don't think teams that stuck on run defense don't try to control gaps of course they do they's not the players to do it. And they have that and I think Francis brew is going to have a really big game for Notre Dame on Saturday he's my first game record defense. You know, we talked about the potential of this young man, the talent.

18:11And I think we're starting to see and we're going to continue to see the consistency. Because once he becomes consistent, watch out. He literally might be the next great interior defense alignment to come out of Notre Dame that's just drafted high because he is that talented. And he's that much when he wants to be he's an unblockable player when he wants to be. He's almost like he's still like a pup. Like mentally he hasn't recognized like, oh, I'm going to be. Yeah, once the light comes on and he recognizes that play out the play, what he can be. I think you're going to start to see somebody that harkens back to the Bryant youngs or, you know, some of the other big time. And with him, you start kind of getting back to some Lewis Nick's vibes. I just control the inside of a game. I mean, he just. I didn't control the inside of a game. Absolutely. No, so I'll go with him, but it just points to what you said, whether it's in the run game being gapped down or having a concerted pass.

19:18Where it's not just your defensive ends. It's also your interior guys is your Francis Brewing your Tiong great. That's getting that push into the quarterback to now the quarterback doesn't have anywhere to escape. Right. You saw last week when big Miller, yo, you bitch escaped out to the right. Yeah, boob, I think boob car had him spun him. And he thought he's about to get away in the next thing you know, it's like three or four guys like right there. And it's like, yo, that's the type of pass rush that you start. You can see the difference. You pointed this spin move with boob car, the counters with all these guys have on the inside. The past rush we've seen the drill with our Washington before Charlie purchased that we've seen Notre Dame run the hula hoop drill. About turning the corner in the past rush, but you talked about it. There are certain things that have been pointed out like on your brush, don't do it in four steps.

20:20Do it into in a hat. You could do it into an ad. You could do it in three. And when you see Rodney Dunham turn that corner on that arc the way he turns it. Not only is that talent, but that's that kid locking in to the fundamentals as well. And we've seen that so many different times to make you feel like. Yeah, there is a connection like these kids are locked in to put Charlie Partridge is laying down for them. You got to love. Yeah, it. I'm going to stay right there with you Sean for for my next game record and it's it is boob car. I thought about it. And it's funny because you're sitting there going on about all these ends and what they're doing. And I'm just like, dude, that's the same struggle I had when I was putting my game breaker game records conversation. Because I wanted to go outside the box. I didn't want to go with Bryce or Broomacar again. I wanted like, I think is Rodney Dunham. I don't know if they're going to play him or not. You know, they didn't play him last week except for a couple snaps.

21:20So I don't understand. You know, maybe they thought that was more of a run game. This is more of a past game. And we'll see him more who knows. But like I thought about Keon. I feel like Keon's getting closer and closer and Logan Thomas has played really good football. I wanted to think outside the box, but at the end of the day. I'm just watching this this left tackle put in work and I'm just like man, oh man. A boobacar should work this kid. And I think boobacar is going to be a game record. I think this would be a game record and both phases Sean. I think he's going to be very effective beating this kid off the ball in the run game and forcing either everything. Either either bouncing it or you know, spilling it outside or forcing it back inside to where his help is. I'm not quite sure. You know, what their game plan will be specifically this week, whether they want to force a bounce or if they want to push everything back up the middle. I don't know. And it'll be different from call to call. But either way, I think boobacar is going to be a game record in the run game. But also when they drop back the pass, I think this kid has no chance against boobacar. I don't I don't I think this is going to be a big day.

22:20And as long as Chris Ash allows the coverage to kind of force Ryan Brown to hang on the ball a little bit. Yeah, I think I think boobacar is going to have himself a day. And boobacar loves playing against Purdue. He loves playing. Yeah. Had a pick six last time there in West Lafayette, five tackles, one sack last year. So hey, he loves when he sees that black and gold. And he gets up forward and I expect that type of performance once again from five. Yeah, I would love to see that. Yeah, I forgot about that pick six. I know he said he's got what two touchdowns now in his career, right? Mm-hmm. So he had one against Purdue and then obviously this sub in game two against rice. Rice. Yeah. Yeah. And look, boobacar is coming off of a big game. He looked frustrated against rice because they just didn't throw the ball. You know, but he had three pressures, including a sack and a hit in the opener. And he had six pressures a sack and a hit last week. Like so when he plays traditional offense so far, he's been really good.

23:20And I think that's going to continue in this game. I mean, if he stays on his current rate, even with the zero game, he's on pace for 36 pressures this year. You know, he's on pace for it would be 11 sacks and 11 hits on the quarterback basically. So I think it's going to be a big game for him. I really do. And again, let me get another one of your game, Recker. Sean, let me hear who you have. She got on defense. Well, you know, I think Drake's bone is going to continue to be a game record. This game, I think it's just about alignment, right? Being the quarterback, getting everybody lined up Purdue is going to try to use formations. Like you said, to get advantages with their slot guys and Drake born, communicating along. With a dawn with those guys being a captain of defense, getting everybody set up and kind of just, you know, let everybody know what Drake has done. Like this is what they're doing on this plate. This is how they're trying to do this and making the adjustments. I'm going to go with Drake born also to be part of what you talked about the linebackers being involved in the passing game and being sure tacklers and stopping everyone at the catch impact of the wide receivers for Purdue.

24:32I always wonder, I always struggle with games like this for a guy like Drake. Because there's also a world in which he doesn't do a whole lot because the ball never comes near. The scissors. Like his first three games. That's correct. That's kind of that's always a bit of that challenge. You know, and it is always kind of fun to kind of see that kind of stuff. Like, well, the guy played well was like the ball was never near him because they kept, you know, the D line, you know, so it'll be interesting to see. But if I do think they're going to try to do some past things to go at Drake and whoever's at middle linebacker Kingston is well when he's in there. Because I just I think that's a better option than trying to go at the corners, nickels and safety. I'm here to run him back. Yeah. Yeah. I will route. Yeah, something like that.

25:32I want that. But that's also where Drake could make an impact. He could have a pick. He could just lay a couple people out. There's a lot of different things that they could do. So let's get into my last game, record Sean and and minus DJ McKinney. We haven't heard DJ's name mentioned a whole lot the last two weeks other than the first play the game. And that's a usually a good place to be as a corner because they're not throwing at him. But I have a feeling that this is obviously going to be a little bit of a different situation because this is what Purdue does. The corners are going to get tested. I am very curious to see about Purdue's willingness to throw a jade at Leonard Moore. And I thought about going to Leonard Moore in this game, but I went with Leonard Moore last week thinking they're going to have to throw at him. And they didn't do it at one time. He almost picked it. And so I'm like, you know what? Coaches are finally not that stupid. They're going to stop throwing at Leonard Moore. So I'm, I'm going to move away from that one for now. And he is impacting the game as you mentioned. I'm talking statistically. He's impacting the game because he forces you to play one handed essentially in a past game. You can't throw to his side.

26:33Well, that's going to put them in some situations against DJ McKinney. And go with me here, Sean. You and I both believe that the defensive line is going to put in some work, right? We both think that they should dominate this matchup. We both have Bubacars, a guy that's potentially going to have a big game. We both picked different defensive tackles. And it's not just for the run game as well. Well, if that happens, Sean, what's going to happen with Ryan Brown? You had kind of mentioned it hinted about it earlier. He's going to need to get the ball out quicker. And we've seen Ryan Brown when he starts to get a little bit physically pressured, like a lot of quarterbacks. He doesn't always look where he's throwing it. And I have a feeling DJ McKinney is going to A, be very locked down in coverage, and B, take advantage of some of those mistakes that Ryan Brown is going to make if, big if, the past rush is as good as we think it's going to be. And that's why I've got DJ McKinney as my next game record. I think he's going to be, I think he'd last couple weeks. He hasn't played a ton of snaps because of the nature of the teams that they've played.

27:35And I don't know why he didn't play as much last week. I think just because Michigan State was going to run the ball, I don't know. But I think that DJ McKinney is going to be a bit of a game record for Notre Dame this week in coverage. Big time. Yeah. I'm going to go with the youngsters combination of Ethan Long, Joey O'Brien. I think one of them makes a big play. I think one of them gets an interception. Absolutely. It is just, you know, what you are supposed to do as a program. We saw it when Breonte went down. I think when he went down, I think hearts went out to him more so than hearts dropping because, oh man, we lost Breonte because we knew Luke Talich was coming in. Right. And so now you hear about Luke Talich. And it's the same thing. And it's more your heart goes out to him that he's injured rather than your heart dropping because you lost somebody. Why?

28:35Because you have two studs getting ready to come in. They're younger, less experienced, but nevertheless very instinctive right and right with everybody else in that secondary. Very instinctive. And probably maybe justice athletic is not more than athletic than Luke Talich. So I'm excited. I'm excited about these two being game records for that secondary, dense Purdue. And it's a great opportunity. If I was coming in in my first game as a safety, this is the type of team I would love to face. I wouldn't want to face a team that's going to run the ball. No, give me a team. I'm playing center field. It's going to throw it. Give me a chance to play into my strength instinctively and go make plays. And I know your feelings on Luke Talich. You talk about a guy being more athletic than Luke Talich. That's a compliment. That's not Luke's not a very good athlete because you do believe that Luke's a very good athlete. And I think you're correct. I think Joey is a, he's not a strong, but he is a thing in my opinion more athletic than Luke, which is impressive. I don't know about anything long, but I definitely think Joey is.

29:37And we saw Luke's athleticism the last two games flying all over the field and making plays like, especially the pick last week. I think he's a little out of the center of the field. I think he gets drafted. Luke's out. I hope not. I hope not this year. I hope he's in the 2028 NFL draft. I would. I'm just, I'm just saying. Maybe. Maybe. I'm not giving us that fifth year. No, I see. If he decided to, for whatever reason, leave. Whenever he comes out. Yeah. He has so much value in modern day NFL where the start is pretty much nickel. Anyway. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. If he run, if he can get into the low four fives or even in the four fours, I really agree with you on that. Yeah. This number one, I was talking about this with Troy Pride this weekend. We were doing the WSB teeth or the ABC 57 pregame show and he was like, he's talking about Luke and he's like, the very least, he's a decades-long player in the NFL is a special team.

30:37He's got the very least at the least. And then, of course, he's got, he's like, he mentioned the same thing you did, Sean. He's talking about like good defensive coordinators, again, assuming Luke tests well. Good defensive coordinators are going to look at a kid like this and be like, kind of like how they look at Kyle Hamilton, how they look at Jeremiah Whosukor, Molo from Notre Dame, not that he's on the same levels Jeremiah, but like Erick and, I mean, it's Kyle. But more of an important, I'm like, look at all the different ways that Baltimore uses Luke Talich. I mean, Kyle Hamilton. You know, so, but that's also partly why I hope Luke comes back because I'd love to see him have a year and a half of his story. Yeah, yeah, yeah. Be very nice to see, very, very nice to see. Was that your, your, your, so your final game, Rekrishan was the. That's two safeties. The two safeties. Good stuff. There's a lot of options on defense, man. That's, that is one thing that is very, very, very true. So just a response. Luke has another year. He wasn't supposed to.

31:38He had played as a freshman in 2023, started on special teams all year, started on special teams in 2024, played some with the second group on defense. And then obviously last year had a, you know, once again, he's been a special team status whole career. But, and then of course this year he's playing and now starting for Notre Dame. But the new five for five rule applies to his class. Obviously, it's part of that 23 class. So Luke gained an extra year of eligibility by that rule. And that's why he could come back next year. I don't know that he will. I hope he does because I have a feeling they're gonna lose a dawn and, and Breonte as well. Although Breonte is going to be determined by how long he's out this year.
