ArmaniTalks Podcast — Not Respecting Someone But Admiring Their Skillsets. Machine-transcribed; use the interactive transcript above to jump the player to any line.
Welcome to the Romani Talks podcast and my host, Romani Talks. In this podcast, I'm helping you level up your 5 soft skills. Public speaking, storytelling, social dynamics, emotional intelligence and creativity. 5 soft skills for you to change your life forever, skyrocket your confidence along the way. Until this episode, I'm going to be talking about not respecting someone but admiring their capabilities. There is to be this one girl that I used to work with who I found very annoying. Most story short, I was in the tech side of things and she was in the sales side of things and she would always dumb down my issues by a ton. So if a server crashed or something, she would be like, oh, it's just not working, right? And I'm like, oh, yes, not working, but there's multiple things going on right now. And I was giving her that context because she was saying something like, well, why don't you just restart it? I'm like, well, we're trying, but there's other things that are going on right now. At this moment, we are troubleshooting the issue and we will give you an update shortly.
But once again, she kept dumbing things down with tech. She did not know how to talk. But the one thing that I admired about her was with the clients, she always knew how to talk. And without her, it would have been awkward because she knew how to crack these jokes. She knew how to ask clarifying questions and she knew how to lead a meeting better than anyone I ever saw. So overall, even though I did not respect her in terms of how she interacted with me, I respected her in terms of how she interacted with the client. And when you're capable of doing this in your professional life, you start to level up so much faster. You start to see different things that people are great in and you're capable of learning from them where a lot of individuals just get biased and act as though this other person is not great in anything. You are capable of admitting that this person is great at something.
And when you are not being that biased, it's when you can actually grow. So some of the best people that you will learn from are people that you do not respect that much and they don't respect you either, but it doesn't matter. You still understand that this person has skill sets and you are still open to learning from them.
