Nick Rushton: A Legacy of Service | Leicester News

Nick Rushton, the beloved 28-year veteran of Leicestershire County Council and its longest-serving leader, has passed away after stepping down earlier this year to focus on his health following a cancer diagnosis. A respected figure across local government, Rushton’s career spanned decades, from his 1989 council election to his cabinet role on North West Leicestershire District Council. Tributes celebrate his rare ability to unite communities, his sharp political mind, and his signature humor — a true statesman who guided his region through tough times with grace and integrity.
