I It's the Jane Austin love story made famous by Emma Thompson back in 1995 But now sense and sensibility is being reimagined for a whole new generation. I love this I was lucky enough to sit down with it says Daisy Edgar Jones and Esme creed miles They shared what it was like stepping back in time Daisy is my welcome to sunrise Thanks for having us congratulations. It was great. It was just beautiful Forgive me I'd refer us and in a that way Daisy was starring in a Jane Austin adaptation part of your bucket list Do you think 100% yeah, I think well I've always grown up watching her you know adaptations I think growing up in the UK. They're such a part of the fabric of your life read all the books when I was at a very Formative age. I remember feeling that when we were shooting it like this is definitely peak. I've made it. Yeah already
It's such a young age 1995 Emma Thompson's version seven Oscars. Does that play on your mind? Daisy talks really beautifully But how we feel like the adaptations are sort of in conversation with each other this idea that such important heritage authors are confined to One interpretation is just nonsense Do you get any training for a period pace? How to move? How to sort of not be too modern? I think that actually so much of it is informed by the costume because I had that thought when I was prepping I was like oh how am I gonna hold myself? Is it gonna am I gonna have to be really aware of that not? I'm not trying to be too modern in the way I move but actually Just merely by having that many layers of skirts and the corseting and the bonnet it does inform your movement so much Was it great to get those corsets off at the end of the day? Yeah, it really Wasn't yeah, I committed to it. I didn't commit to it. What do you mean? You didn't work all so because yours was higher I had a more like modern for the time period more like I'm in the new style
You both had these beautiful scenes where you were you know running through the grass lying in the grass You know crying in the rain was that an amazing thing to film did that sort of really put you into the period? I loved all of that the pathetic fallacy of it raining and sort of Bellowing your lovers name into the into the you know wilder just felt so cathartic I Really now I'm always so glad Mr. Willoughby man Mary Ann and Willoughby And it's always a love rat isn't there what's a love rat? I'm not Well, I won't mention him because we don't want to give away the story for the people who haven't Experience who he is but the naughty guy. Okay. Yeah, I love that love rat Yeah You can use that. Yeah, we loved Mrs. Jennings Fanny was that a lot of that improvised it felt so of the moment It felt just sort of you know off the cuff so much of it that humor Fiona sure is just a master Miss Jennings is described as having a very unique laugh that kind of cuts through
Greats both Marianne and Eleanor and so she modeled her laugh off of her little pug that she had and it was a very It's a very unique laugh. I have you all three married or you know it All of Austin's characters are so rich and layered even the ones that kind of come in as these sort of pops and bursts of energy have depth and Complexity to them and that's that's the genius of Austin. So you're laugh and you'll cry exactly Congratulations. Thank you. Thanks so much. I love you to meet you and Sense and sensibility is out in cinema's October 15
