1:00Dot come and Randi coming off a lopsided loss to the Carolina Hurricanes a couple of days ago The canox first key tonight is to have a short memory as they face a devils team that's lost to in a row Let's be real that Carolina game was a tough one seven two losses are not easy But you learn from it and you move on you've got five more on this road trip that you'll want to show progress Hopefully picks up some points, but it starts today and you're playing a new Jersey team that's desperate right now as well So you got to bring that energy of looking for you can't look past you can't look past this team And you can't look back because that result is gone you for look up forward to what's happening tonight or in today against the New Jersey Devils Meanwhile the canox need to be a little bit more connected than they were the other night and that applies to all three zone Absolutely, you got to play a simple connected game win possession defensive zone Clean outlet passes good speed through the neutral zone and then entries to set up in the offensive zone That's something that the conucks did not have against Carolina where maybe they did one thing well But they weren't able to follow it up

2:01So you got to have all three of those things clicking to have a good team game and that starts against New Jersey today Let's take a look at the scratches this afternoon first for the canox stature Demko and Philip heat all remain on the injured list Out to rot to Geon breeze one Victor main scenee are the healthy scratches with Luke Shannon branding Gallagher drawing back into the van Cooper lineup after sitting out the loss to Carolina for the Devils Jonathan cova Savage Conner Brown Nick Buxtad and Shamis Casey are all out injured Remy Porey is the lone healthy player out of the lineup for The Devils take a look at the starting lineups first for New Jersey Jake Allen goes in goal He made 26 saves and gave up five goals and a five three loss to the Utah mammoth on Tuesday That was his last appearance in the crease in New Jersey's last game as well on the blue line for the Devils It's Luke Hughes skating alongside Brett Pesci the forward line has Emma deis Lombardi on left wing with Cody glass down the middle and Jesper Boquist on the right side

4:04Regardless of the last game. Obviously not the outcome. We want to not the the effort level we wanted so Our mindset is just to refocus and get back to the things that we want to continue to work on so Obviously watching it back there's there's some elements in the game that we did like So it's a matter of extending those and seeing a lot more of those Efforts and quality of play in Jersey coming off back to back losses. I'm sure they're gonna be hungry coming in So today what do you expect to see from their side? A response game, you know very similar to our situation They're not happy with the way things have gone. So they're gonna we expect a major push out of them and My expectation of our group is that we have that same mentality to try to get this on the rails You mentioned liking some things you saw in Carolina on sort of rewatch What were some of the things that you would sort of look at as positives from that performance? Well, there was there was a number of breakouts that Structurally were good great support up the ice now. It's a matter of linking those things together getting clean breakouts

5:10We had some good entries and a couple of good ozone sequences For me, it's a matter of linking those three together regularly to make us quicker to make us more direct And I've expressed expressed to the guys that our best hockey comes when we're simple They're sort of this like truism after a lopsided defeat of like maybe you burn the tape But obviously that's not what what how do you use again a result like that or an effort like that in terms of informing you know what you just talked about but also just big picture Gathering and tell about your team early in the season Well, it is obviously still early in the season and there's you know regardless of the outcome Win or loss there's always something to be learned from those games A large part of the takeaway for us was learning how well they do everything and their consistency and their efforts and The way they're relentless on pox and again a very simple team that does those things really well every single night

I don't want to hamstring myself into a decision before I need to is there anything you can disclose about your lineup? I don't know what you what you'd want to know like They are available to play I know we're on a few games and starting to establish now what you what you're going to provide as a coach So I know we're only a few games in but how do you are you looking for have you seen the leadership group kind of forming here? I know you have quite a few alternates Are you beginning to pinpoint some of the leaders on this team yet? Or is that still a work in progress still a work in progress? For me the leadership is is how guys approach the day-to-day stuff how they arrive at the rink their practice habits

7:15They're their habits in the gym just kind of displaying the things that you want to see from your group So it's a continued work in progress. We're seeing some growth in a lot of guys So it's trending in the right direction and that being said what would have you made a few games in here pull caught or former devil? He's done a great job obviously being named the third star of the week in the NHL You got to be doing something right, but I think for for caught. They've got some skilled players I put a little bit of pressure and sheldon keep so they got to turn this around pretty quick here Keith coaching his 517th career game in the NHL and Was many people's consensus pick Or consensus Most likely pick to be the first coach let go this season as marijuana and covers up At the side of the net and this devils team has had some change over it doesn't necessarily look as Imposing as maybe it has in year past but they brought in Anthony mantha Evan Rodriguez Yes, per both quest guys that can try and help fill out their middle six and I really like the evangelist to pick up He plays with speed he came from New Jersey as well That's a player that is playing on their top line right right now But in today's NHL when you need speed we need skilled players I think he can be a real difference maker for this devils team evangelista acquired from the Nashville predators on September first scored two goals

1:37:55this season just in general observations what you've seen so far under a man in a whole drill well we're we're trying to implement a lot in short amount of time but you've seen the change of some of the structure that that's been put in place obviously the guys have competed extremely hard for each other so there's some positives we're we're we're taking it bit by bit here but i think you know it's an exciting group we found a way to create offense in many different ways but still a long ways to go for for the group and i guess that we've we've tried to simplify it as much as we can but we're we're trying to implement some things as we move around yeah well man he has tried some new things like sasson in a shutdown roll a little bit uh movie cauter and over time do you think i had coach of rebuilding team has to experiment a little bit to see what he has and perhaps how to best develop guys for sure i think he's uh you know he's learning about these players the players the personalities um seeing where guys fit and so i think it's a

1:38:56it's a great opportunity for him uh to take some risks to take some uh throw some ideas out as a coaching staff and see what works as we move along here um you said prior to the season you don't want to lose Peterson to be anything except himself so with that in mind how about his start well i'm proud of him he came in prepared um a lot of good conversations of just putting him in an environment to be comfortable when i think you do that you allow a player to get uncomfortable in his own way and i think you see pd the way he's competing the physicality and obviously he's been able to produce some offense but i think he's been uncomfortable getting uncomfortable himself in his own way and we're supporting him through that and and uh he's played excellent through five games we saw uh Shen and Gallagher sit in carolina is there a plan for these two or is it based mainly on the competition or load management yeah i think we've got some young guys that we've got to find out um where they fit in and give some opportunity there these are two great

1:39:58professionals great human beings that especially with the busyness of our of our schedule um that in the travel we didn't felt that hurt to uh to get some some other guys in there but they obviously mean a lot to me to the staff and what we're trying to build here is an organization there's going to be some tough stretches we know that some losing streets likely um you know players want to win so how do you keep morale high how do you keep energy high when you do hit patches like that well we're all naturally competitive we all want to win hockey games and i think what we focused on with this group is right from day one a training camp is let's not get resolved based if we get so focused on the result we're gonna we're gonna lose what we're trying to get here in the structure and compete and get that in place and so we've we've challenged them to take their eyes off that to focus on the practices and how how intense we can be on the day to day that will roll into the games and if we do it consistently enough eventually the wins will come

1:42:03in the last two games when you're getting sheld by carolina and it's it's tough against special teams with the devils and you're seeing filiparonic having these minutes where he it's snowballing and he nothing can go right and pucks are going off of him and it coverages bond and all these things um that's gonna be something to work on to make sure the organization knows uh yeah we we don't have to win every game but there is a cost that comes with there there is a kind of a residential yeah it's just a residue there where you really do you when you go to work you want to feel good about yourself and how can you make how can you keep players feeling confident and good about the process while losing while losing and losing like this and losing like this is really the key because we've seen this in Vancouver like we we really have where um i mean i i brought up the Bruce Ruidro era but like that was fun but there wasn't too much of a process there and there wasn't a system and they were just um they weren't winning games the way that uh you you want them to win in terms of
