Loren LoRosa loves a good underdog story, and this time Yung Miami has her attention. After facing heavy criticism while finding her sound as a solo artist, Yung Miami is opening up about the pressure, self-doubt, depression, and determination behind her upcoming album—and how she kept pushing even when it felt like the whole world was against her.

Loren gets into Yung Miami’s journey from the backlash surrounding her earlier releases to finding new momentum with “Spin That,” while also reflecting on what it’s like to build, grow, and perfect your craft in front of the world. Plus, Loren gets personal about criticism, imposter syndrome, empathy, and learning how to keep going when everybody has an opinion.

I'm a homegirl that knows a little bit about everything and everybody. You know if you're on a ride about that right? Lauren came in. Hi. Hey, I was up. It's more of the Rosa. And this is another episode of the latest with Lauren the Rosa. This is your daily digital art things, pop culture, entertainment news and all of the conversations that shake the room, baby. Now I know we always kick off the latest with Lauren the Rosa with the behind the scenes of the grind. And that is the segment where we really, really check in on the grind. I don't know about y'all, but I dang sure don't stop the checking on myself.

I will literally burn myself to the ground. What the old me would have burnt myself to the ground. Actually I have physically burnt myself down to the ground to the point where I was fainting in the club. So I built this segment into the podcast because since it's just me and y'all, I figured why not start checking in on myself and making that a habit and you guys holding me accountable. So let's get on into behind the scenes of the grind. Let's do it. Back on the grind. It is Friday. Finally, how am I feeling? I'm, you know, get into the end of the week is always a joy for me. I don't think I am still used to getting up early in the morning, which is crazy because I didn't just start getting up in the morning early for breakfast club. When I worked at TMZ, we worked on New York time because that's just how a lot of like businesses and especially news here in the US works. A lot of the clocks and everything are set by New York, a lot of the print and newspapers print at a certain time and you know, things are based off of New York.

So I would have to be up on my way to work in LA around like 5 a.m. My first meeting. What happened at 6 a.m. at TMZ. So you guys ever watch TMZ and you know that circle up show. So there's two shows. There's a daytime show where people are just sitting at their desk and like they're talking one on one straight to the camera and then Harvey and Charles are on this like elevated platform. And then there's a second show where everybody in the room is all in one big circle. So that everybody in the room, one big circle show is based off of the actual meetings, producer meetings that we had every morning. So at 6 a.m. or like 5 I would try to you know, need to get there by like 5 30 at 5 30 a.m. you would get there and that was like your actual clock in time. If you were later than that, you relate for work because if you come in late in that meeting, started, maybe you get the dirtiest looks at the dirtiest look. Okay. But yeah, you would get there around 5 15 5 30 and you would just search the internet and a lot of it was searching the internet more so to be honest with you guys was more about

what was trending that morning. For the most part, you would be watching just headlines and blogs and Twitter and you know, however news was coming your way the day before. So as soon as you leave work, you would be you know, keeping up with things until you know, time to go to bed, wake up the next morning and go back in the work. So that morning, you know, internet searching was trending across X or Google or wherever. It's just to know what happened kind of while you were sleeping. We would make our list and then we would go into the producer meetings and everybody would go around and talk about, you know, what stories they were working on for the day, what angles they were coming from. You know, if you if I could help you figure out shit pitch, you help me figure out my pitches for us like different angles or different resources. We needed to break a story. We would do that breakfast club is a bit different though coming in in morning. It's like you already have everybody else like, you know, just NV sharp. They're on air top of the show. The producers are cutting audio. We do a lot of our reconvening the night before me and the producers that I work with on the latest with Mona Rosa within the breakfast club.

But the timing is still and we talk a lot throughout the day too, but the timing is still early for me and I told myself that even though I am not really a morning person, I've it's like God wants me to be his strongest morning soldier. Okay. I don't know what it is about me getting these morning jobs, but I keep getting them. So I think that it's, you know, it's in preparation for something. So I'm just learning to get up in the morning. Fridays are always my favorite days and weekends are always my favorite when I'm not ripping and running too crazy because you get to sleep at this era of my life. I am working. I am sleeping. And if I am outside and joy in my time and reclaiming my time, it is planned and it has to be worth it. I don't know if that's an age thing or if that is because I get up to early in the morning for work thing, but whatever it is, that is where I am at. I also realized too, like behind the scenes this week, I've been thinking a lot about the fact that me and my friends, like, we're really like, y'all we're adults.

I'm 34 years old and every now and then it hits me. Like you are a real adult. Like this thing is here, baby girl, it is happening. One of my friends, his girlfriend, I, she's a dermatologist, black woman dermatologist, shout out to my girl, Jibria James, she's working down in Georgia. But yeah, I face times her the other day, she had one of her student assistants with her. And, you know, I know her as Jibria and I know she's a doctor, but it's different seeing people at work and then seeing how other people see them as well. So they were to having conversations about how they all start their day before work. You know, Jibria and Dr. James and the rest of her team are talking about different songs and motivational songs and things they listen to on the way in. And one of her medical assistants was like, you know what? I listened to the latest with Lauren Rosa on my way in to work.

It motivates me because of her story. It keeps me going, but also like, she's filling me in on what's going on as well too. And give me like real good background context. So one of my guy best friends, like a brother to me, this is his girlfriend who is Dr. James and she had asked him if I could face time and just talk to the student for a little bit. Because man, medical school and any sort of way, ain't no joke. That girl was in school forever and he will be in school for some time too. So just something to keep him motivated. So I face times and I'm talking to him and he says something, something, something, Dr. James and it hit me. I'm like, oh shoot. Like the way that I look at doctors, like my doctors, they got a friend or a home girl that look at them as like, girl, you, that's crazy. You really somebody doctor. The cycle of life is insane. Like we are really grown adults with all this responsibility right now. And I think if I'm being completely honest with myself, I always know that I was going to have a big old serious old job. But when you get to certain ages, it doesn't feel like what you imagined it to feel like.

I thought by 34 years old, I was going to be married. I was going to have kids. I was going to be living in a home that I owned. And I just pictured my life being having, I have a lot of responsibility. I was going to say having a lot of responsibility, but I do have a lot of responsibility. I pictured my life older when I was younger thinking about the age I am now. But now in that age, I feel so young. Like I feel like I am barely scratching the surface of so many things. Like even the thought of having children, I know I'm going to do it, want to do it, you know, being married, going to happen. You know, all of this, you know, soon, relatively soon. But like even a thought of that, sometimes I'm like, I'm really going to be somebody, mama. Like I just wonder if that feeling ever goes away. Do you ever, I'm always trying to figure out when am I going to get over that hump of dang, I'm really the new adult too. No, I'm the adult here.

You know how your parents used to be like, I'm the adult in this house. I brought you in this world. I take you out. I don't know if your parents sold you out there, but my mom used to always be like, this is my house. You can get out. I brought you in this world. I take you out of it. Like, I'm the adult in this house. I wonder when my, I'm the adult in this house is going to kick in. Like is that something that only happens once you get to your like dang, I got all these babies in this house stage? You all let me know. Find me on social and let me know when the door, feeling of being an adult go from, oh my God, I'm really an adult too. I'm the only adult in this house. I'm learning the roles everywhere, L-O-R-E-N-L-O-R-O-S-A. Let's talk about growing and mature and realizing that like you are grown and did that sink in? Ladies, I would love to know like, is that something that sinks in once you get to that like maternal point in your life where like the babies are here and that maternal instinct kicks in. Fellas, for you did it kicking when you were responsible for a family, when you became a husband or you know, was it a certain job like when does that shift?

It shifts even a real thing because older people like my grandmother talks to me about feeling old and being old. So there's a shift that happens somewhere. What is that shift? Let's get on into the latest. We can eradicate food deserts with this technology. Hey, y'all, this is Lauren the Rosa from the latest with Lauren the Rosa, the podcast and that was Delaya Hemings. The ENR has been created, Norwich and Bloom Market, an AI powered grocery store. Scan a QR code to enter, pick what you need and walk out or as Delaya puts it. Tap grab and go 24-7. We started to get flooded with folks saying, hey, I need you in my city. It became their mission to develop a store that could open within three months, even without infrastructure. And just when we were like, how are we going to accomplish the school? We won the AT&T Small Business Contest grant. $50,000 got us over the finish line where we built the first AI powered grocery shipping container in the country. For Delaya, it's about building a legacy. To show the world that you can solve any problem when you work together.

Wouldn't it be nice if the world was like, oh, you got a cold? You got the flu? Well, you take a break and the world will stop when you're sick. But that's not happening. The grind don't stop. You know those moments when you're out with friends, everyone's catching up. Your food hasn't made it to the table yet, but your ice cold Coca-Cola Zero sugar arrives first. You tell yourself, I'm just going to enjoy one sip while I wait. Then the conversation gets going. Somebody tells a funny story and you take another sip here and there.

Before you know it, your food shows up and you're thinking, wait, where did my drink go? We've all been there. It's one of those little moments that just seems to happen when you're enjoying good food and even better company. Coca-Cola Zero Sugar has the real Coca-Cola taste you love with zero sugar. It's one of those drinks that's harder exists, whether you're catching up with friends, grabbing lunch, or sitting down to dinner. And since it's zero sugar, you can always order another when you're ready. That's exactly why it's just too good to wait. Try it for yourself. Coca-Cola Zero Sugar, real Coca-Cola taste, zero sugar, is too good to wait. Speaking of shifts, a young Miami. I love a good underdog story, baby. But let me tell you all something. It's weird because I feel so, I relate so much to young Miami's come up story and not having to convince people but having to remind herself of who she was so that the world

felt it too story. But I don't think of her as an underdog. I never thought of young Miami as an underdog, but I do know that the people was on her. I know that for a fact. Like, child, they throw every witch and word at that young Miami and the city girls when they were together as a group, her and JT. People just love to, when you up and you're moving, people love to throw things your way. But there has been a few records that she released. Just telling us she was coming with her debut album. Now, one of the, there was actually three. It was NewsFlash, which is where she talks about, you know, just being the center of media and conversation and headlines. There was T-Time, which is when you see the two fingers, clock it, that had that hook on it. Those two songs were not revered well by her audience and by the masses, they weren't. But she then fought back, okay? And that's why I love this story. I do think though that being a solo artist and having to find your sound outside of a group is a process. And we're learning in real time and in front of the world, a lot of us that are doing things on these platforms, you know, you put in your art out there and your creativity out there

for people to have conversation about. It is not the easiest thing. So she talks about that whole experience and, you know, the people coming for her and changing their minds, baby, with spin that and that becoming the song of the summer, let's take a listen. If complex were to do a list of where all the female rappers rate, Carisha, you would be last on the list. Young Miami put out a snippet of a song and the fans are not loving it. I just left the studio at 6.37 a.m. I didn't use the last few days and being good for me. I had a mental breakdown. The other day, I was dropping my phone off. You see, you go, hey, mom, I said, I have a depressed. That moment right there, my son, it's been me hurt. I said, it's going to be my last time on fire. It took me two years to make this album. I don't know how some days after it would encourage the going to studio to even record the song. But I remember putting it out of my emotions. To this album, I remember crying, questioning myself. Even when I felt I could listen to a whole world versus me, I didn't let that **** stop me. I didn't let that get in my way. Love it. Love it.

Y'all hear me in the trailer. They did use a clip from the breakfast club where we were talking about the clock at record. Let's take a listen to that full segment, actually. Let's take a listen. The people want the city girls back. Young Miami put out a snippet of a song and the fans are not loving it. Let's take a listen to the snippet of the song. You know what, T, when you sit on two fingers touching, yeah. I'm just not real. I'm just not real ****. How do you judge that? It sound like somebody recorded it off a phone or something. She was alive. She was alive. She was a pretty good person. But is that the only snippet I mean, the beat didn't drop yet. We didn't get into a verse or nothing like that. Tell us about that. I told you that. She posted. Now she did go live following this because the comments got crazy. Like people once blogs picked this up, people were in the comments. And on X. There was one person I saw that told her to go get her CDLs like to give it up in.

So. Don't play me. Yeah. Don't play me. Don't play me. Don't play me. That is funny. She was on her body. Yeah, but Lee Young Miami. They love the poke at Young Miami and her rap ability. But she went live and she responded because it was on her so bad. Let's take a listen to her response. I'm saying all your videos and the thing about it is what's gagging me the most about this whole thing is it's by y'all just literally literally you know, you hit a whole song right? Yeah, like you know, you got me so hype in a good height. I'm not me. I'm literally like laughing with you all like I be King with you, but you got me so high like I'm so inside because it's like I'm really coming. I'm gonna what's y'all talking about? I'm gonna what's y'all talking about in the comments? I'm gonna what's y'all talking about? I'm gonna what's what I'm gonna what's y'all talking about on TikTok when I drop my fucking tape. Y'all What are all of you up? No, y'all because the people were coming for her like go get your CDLs. It's crazy, but I'm gonna tell y'all something right now as a person that gets a lot of I get both sides of the coin

like there are a lot of people who support me who you know love to see me figuring things out and finding my way in all of this. And a lot of people who are very critical of me every un every I every you know, for some reason when my mind is going and I'm thinking too much I or a lot or I shoot there was some days I was coming in here and I was stumbling through my words just trying to get through because my mind is all over the place and I'm thinking about people and the pressure and if I'm getting it right and if I'm doing it right do you know the room like the story is this even the right story to be doing it's a lot that goes into perfecting your craft and it's a lot that goes into it and pressurized when you're doing that in front of the world. So I feel her and and I've always big city girl fan over here I've always revered their resilience because I know it's like you know coming from like really trying to figure something out like they they come from literally building their lives like the lives of the other right now they've built from nothing I totally understand that.

I love a underdog story even though we're really enough I don't look at them as underdogs because I feel like they're here they've been here like a lot of the words that we say the period you know not a woman's menstrual cycle but you know I'll be like yeah girl period that's the city girls like their lingo their influence it's here and has been for some time but I don't know what it is about when you are you know at the top of things and having to figure it out people don't give you the same grace that they give you while you coming up and while you building and even then people are critical but I think it gets even worse once you've already acclaimed some success and I think a lot of it is like I think the race to not even the finish line because once you get to that like end all be all goal there's always more to do but the race you know to getting over that hump or over that hill where you feel like you're smooth sailing it can feel so bumpy at times it definitely can feel bumpy at times and it can feel like you know people are supporting you on your way up and want you there they want you to come on down but it's a race and honestly I look at it now that I'm building something publicly on a major platform I understand that it's

a marathon like I totally understand what nipsy hustle man when he said that and what I'm hearing through young Miami in this trailer for watch this and you know I know she has her song F you coming out this Friday October 2nd what I'm hearing is that you like she took everything that was coming from her and use it to kind of make her stronger but she didn't run away from what she was feeling like she didn't run away from the fact that she was feeling depressed that she was you know that there was a little bit of an imposter syndrome and like am I even good enough and y'all know I talked to y'all about that here on the latest with Laura Rosa and the crazy feeling of experiencing that at a time where you know you like I've always felt like imposter syndrome was something I conquered a long time ago but having to reconquer it differently until publicly has been a journey and that's why I talk about it out loud because I think a lot of people want people to feel like that does doesn't not have it in us not you know those moments when you're out with friends everyone's catching up your food hasn't made it to the table yet but your ice cold Coca-Cola zero sugar arrives first you tell yourself I'm just going to enjoy one sip while I wait in the conversation gets going somebody tells a funny story and you take another sip here and there and before you know it your food shows up and you're thinking wait where did my dream go we've all been there is one of those little moments that just seems to happen when you're not on the road

enjoying good food and even better company. Coca-Cola Zero Sugar has the real Coca-Cola taste you love with zero sugar. It's one of those drinks that's harder to resist, whether you're catching up with friends, grabbing lunch, or sitting down to dinner, and since it's zero sugar, you can always order another when you're ready. That's exactly why it's just too good to wait. Try it for yourself. Coca-Cola Zero Sugar, real Coke taste, zero sugar, is too good to wait. And because I mean, look, and what we do and what I do, you do have to be honest about certain things. Like I didn't the T-Time record. I was like, okay, I love city girls. I'm down for the movement but like this ain't it. The newsflash record. I listened to it, but honestly, it didn't have replay value. Spin that. The first time I heard it, I was like, okay, this is a vibe but I don't

even think I really understood it. I went out with my homegirls. Not even that I didn't understand it, but it didn't hit me yet. You know, sometimes you need to go out to the club. You need to really live it in real life, like really fill it in real life. I went out one weekend with my friends can in New York. We played Spin that all weekend. And I was like, yes, like this, like you need, as a girl, the lady's gonna know what I'm saying. I mean, even fellas, like there are certain records that like when you play them, the life experience coupled with it makes a song even better. But like being out running around in the summertime, I'm seeing what the song was doing, really getting the chance to fill it helped, but it was also a really great record. Like the hook, the, you know, it was melodic. It was all the things that was supposed to be, to just be fun and and make you think of a good time, but you know, make you think of like all the things you would you want to do. Like who don't want this one to go by, go your bad. And that's what I think the city girls have been best at. It's like creating this lifestyle culture movement of young girls who were just, you know, livinies, aspirational lives and what's not what they don't have. They talk about it in

a way that makes you like them. I was talking about it like that. I was talking to say that. But it also made me think about though, you know, having to critique somebody and talk about the things that you don't like where my empathy comes in because I know what it's like to be talked about. And be talked about to a point where you like, yo, I just want to see you like pull up like what's up. And we didn't do that. We didn't do that. But I'm just thinking about the fact that like in real life, she's driving in the car with her son, potentially listening to the breakfast club, going through depression. And then we, she's hearing us then talk about her and adding on to that. I never want to be the person that's burdened in somebody in that way. Like it's it's finding the balance of like empathy and honesty. Charlotte may actually just talk about this on the pivot. And I thought that that was like a really good point. Take away point and a pillar point for me as I grow in my career, you know, of talking about people and talking to people at the same time. Let's take a listen to him on the pivot. Good stuff. I'm asked of people. Cush you out there. You stupid and all that

stuff. But the good stuff too. A lot of people doing joy, their encouragement and enjoy the upping of themselves. That don't that'll do that for you. Nah, man. My daddy instilled in me a long time ago. You're never as good as they say you are and you're never as bad as they say you are. And I always just operated in that space in a great mentor of mine and radio. His name is Cadillac Jack. He always told me about the rule of 10. He said out of 10 people, three people going like it, three people are not going to like it. Four people don't even know what the hell is going on. And that's just literally how I carry it. So I don't get too high off the praise. I definitely don't get too low off the booze. It's just like I just I just stay like this. That's another reason I don't like to feed off social media so much. Because social media is that crowd that will gas you up. And it'll make you feel like you have to comment on everything. You ever see people start them videos? You know, all the y'all been waiting. All the y'all been asking my opinion on this. Ain't nobody asked you nothing. You're just wanting to give your opinion. And that's fine. But don't

start it off like that. You know, a lot of you have been hitting me up. Nobody hit you up about nothing. But the internet will make you feel like you got to have an opinion about everything. That's why so many half baked ideas out there. That's why so many things that if people had any real integrity, they probably would walk back because they realized like, oh shoot, I was wrong about that. Nobody ever admits when they wrong. I've been admitted publicly when I'm wrong a million times. I apologize to people on the air a million times and I feel like I got it wrong. You don't ever see anybody do that that much. You know those moments when you're out with friends, everyone's catching up. Your food hasn't made it to the table yet, but your ice cold Coca-Cola zero sugar arrives first. And before you know it, your food shows up and you're thinking, wait, where did my drink go? We've all been there.

It's one of those little moments that just seems to happen when you're enjoying good food and even better company. Coca-Cola zero sugar has the real Coca-Cola taste you love with zero sugar. It's one of those drinks that's harder exists, whether you're catching up with friends, grabbing lunch, or sitting down to dinner.
