We're going to talk about all things from NBA preseason.

2:08We're going to set for the week to come. We're going to talk a little bit about what we're expecting, what we're looking forward to, things that we're really interested in seeing. We'll talk about the new look jazz. We're going to debut. They're lined up that will actually, you know, try and win games theoretically at some point. But we're going to start today's swipe of by talking about the heat because on Saturday, y'all saw the couple who is expected to make his heat debut preseason only with the Miami heat. They take on the Toronto Raptors up in Canada. Should be a really interesting kind of first appearance for this heat team, even as a preseason. It'll still be preseason, very basic stuff. We'll be sloppy, but I'm really interested to see how this is going to look. I have so many questions about Miami as a whole in terms of how Eric Spulcher is going to manage everything, but I am curious from you, when we get to tomorrow night, what are you going to be looking for in terms of the interaction between BAM and a bio and his new superstar partner, Yannis? Well, I'm going to be, it's going to be interesting to see how they play together.

3:11And the synergy that is just between the two, I think most of us are really looking for is the deep into chemistry they can really come up with. But I think offensively, if BAM is going to be playing in that nail spot, or is he going to be playing the low man and where he is, how those two are going to play off of each other, and then plus the shooters around them are going to be able to take advantage of the gravity they're both creating. I just want to see it. I just think that this is a whole new brand new kind of two-man pairing for Yannis. He had Brook Lopez, but Brook Lopez, while he did operate as a three-point shooter, BAM I think took four and a half three to game last year. So obviously that's going to be something that's going to stay around that number if not being uptick. But I'm really curious to see him play with some mobile defender like this. He has never ever played with somebody like BAM. If BAM played for the Lakers, people would be calling him like Bill Russell. Because that's how good he is. He is a transformative big. I think he does so many things at such a high level. He's so smart.

4:11And funny enough, his, Shana Tha Asia, you know, Mrs. Anabaya almost 30 points and 10 rebound just to day, by the way. It's a derivative duo of like a couple that were the one was this good as BAM is, but their partner was like Tiger Woods, basically of their sport. That's what I'm trying to like run through in my brand. I'm like, man, it's top 25 player to me. But Asia might be the greatest women's basketball players ever touched the sport. Shana Tha Asia Wilson, man, like just, just, just. The only one close is Sue Bird and Megan Rapinoe when they were together. Yeah. Yeah, Shana Rapinoe. Oh, Brazil, 2010. I'll never forget that cross, cross across the field. 120 on the clock, by the way. It was going in a, in the last minute time. I couldn't believe it. But yeah, I can't wait to see the two together. I think this is going to be a NBA league past extraordinaire team. I'm interested to see how it's going to work out. I think I've been really kind of keeping eye on things.

5:12I've been listening to Lockdown Heat with West Goldberg. A show he actually does work on, I suppose, the Lockdown NBA daily. He keeps asking off of and David Romillo over there, been listening to their coverage of the heat and like what they're expecting from Miami based off of Spowe's comments. You know, last season they ran this high, this super up tempo, all gas, no breaks, really no ball screens. But there's been comments about, hey, we're really glad to see a ball screen again, et cetera. So it looks like there's been some changes, but it does sound like they're primarily going to keep a lot of the same kind of stuff. I'm a little worried about that to be honest with you. I'm a little bit worried, not in pretty season. That's fine. Yannis can jog up and down for 15 minutes across 48. I am just going to be interested to see what is their pace, what is their tempo, how much structure is in their offense, how much of his downhill, how much of his transition. I like the formula that Miami had last year in terms of, they played downhill so aggressively that it forced the defense to back off, which slowed them up offensively and made the

6:14heat's defense even better. But the problem was like it started to slide over the back half of the year because the guys got exhausted. So they got more and more tired. I'm worried about that with Yannis. I just feel like that's a big ask for him at this point in this career. He's one of the most athletic players we've ever seen in NBA history. But that also means that there's a big energy load that comes with moving a body that big. So I'll be very curious to see what pace they're playing at in this game. I want to see Davy on Mitchell. I want to see if Nicola Yovitch is like included in this kind of process of what he's going to look like. Toronto, I have fewer questions about because I just feel like I know what they're going to be. I think the Raptors last year you sub out brand in Ingram. You add Kauai Leonard. I don't feel like there's a lot to kind of figure out. I'm not expecting Kauai to play in this game because it's a preseason game. But like the only things I really have to kind of wonder about is like, all right, how does Scotty Barnes look physically? And then I guess like Colin Murray boils does he look sharper does he look more polished? Does he look like he's taken a step up? There's a lot of expectation that he's going to be the guy that kind of like makes a leap

7:17that puts them. It helps them get into the next year alongside Kauai. You know, I'm very high on Jamal Shed. They just reassign him on a three or 24 million dollar deal. That was a steal, by the way, he's worth way more than eight mill. And I'm big on Jacobi Walter. So like I'm big on like a lot of their guys. I don't have a lot of questions for the Raptors standpoints or anything you were yours didn't see on that side. Not necessarily at this point. I'm these are two of the most confounding teams I think in the offseason because I think Mr. Bo couldn't be very good. If you had to put your faith in them right now, which one of these teams you feel like it's going to be better earlier to start the season? I have a lot of confidence in Toronto. I'm exceptionally high on Toronto. And part of this is like, Yannis fundamentally rechanges who you are. And like, suppose we talked about this, like it's it's Yannis on the Combo. Like everything changes and you're going to let Yannis be Yannis and all of that. So you mentioned Bam fitting around next to Yannis.

8:18He took more threes last year, but I am like I've been really worried about the fact that Bam was 31% from the corners last season. Now he was 46 the year before. So it's like, ah, see he's fine. He can shoot from the corners. That was on lower volume. So the problem is like you've got a faster pace system with more volume and he struggled. So I am a little bit worried about him filling in that brick low peas roll. I do think you have to be able to space adequately around Yannis. If you just try and junk this up down low, I just don't think that that's going to work as well as they're going to want it to. I have a lot of confidence in the Raptors. Like I went from being I think if you asked me at the last season, you know, I did everybody on this one to five scale in my brain. If you asked me the last season about Darko, Ray Ackovich, I was probably going to tell you I think he's like a two. He's like a slightly below average head coach. And after the regular season and playoff run, I'm like, he's a four. He might be a five. I am that impressed with Darko, Ray Ackovich. And so you've got most of those guys coming back into the system. I just think it's going to be easier for Toronto to get off to a good start to get into a good

9:18rhythm. I think there's going to be a lot that Miami is going to have to figure out much like the Sixers and a lot of these teams that had big additions in the off season. Sure. Man, it's Kauai, new arm band Kauai headband Kauai. Looks like he's a man that's on a mission. Him and Scott is going to be terrific. Okay, better defensive duo this year. Scotty and Kauai, bam, and Yannis. Bam and Yannis. You know, just like the physicality. You know, Yannis slid a little bit last two years in Milwaukee and like Bucks fans will tell you that. They would have told you that even before he got traded. Uh, does he have the ability to get back to an elite level? Yeah, he can. I do think that there's always going to be a little bit of energy conservation that the stars have to do. The more that the offensive load is on them and the more years that they do it. I think it's just easier when you're 27 to be able to be like sprint score. Yeah. So it's buckle down, defend, keep lateral, all those types of things. Not to mention the soreness. So, but like, look, bam, it's just like he's so versatile.

10:21He's so good at containment. Yannis is so physical. And like the part of it's also just like I love off night. I just don't think baby on is a really great screen navigation defender. So he has like excellent pieces around him. Now it's not like Kauai and Scotty don't because like Jamal Sheds terrific. Yeah. They have guys, but like also the starting units RJ Barrett, Emmanuel quickly. And I'm like King of the RJ Barrett fan club. But like he and Emmanuel are average to below average defenders. They just all there's actually some positive metrics for the manual that I need to kind of like figure out where I'm at on quickly. But I think it's close. I think it's within range, but Kauai is also not the guy he was in 2017. So I'll say Bam and Yannis. What do you think? Yeah, I mean, Bam and Yannis, but I think from a perimeter oriented standpoint, I think Scotty and Kauai are going to be a monster. I think when I'm thinking about them now, matching a versus the nicks next playoffs. It might be the Raptors just because of how they're built versus like Jalen Brunson, Carl, Anthony Towns and Oji and Adobe in them.

11:28They might have a specific kind of defender that might give them the most kind of trouble. I think from a night to night basis, it might end up being that Bam and Yannis could be the best two men defensive pairing in the sport. If if Yannis is able to commit that energy and maybe when the better way to say that when they're a lot dirt both locked in defensively, they could be the best and just like four or five defenders in the sport. Let's talk Jess new look jazz play the Warriors on Sunday Brandon Pajewski has gotten all the hype in in preseason for the Warriors that's the one coming out of camp where it's like he's been amazing. If Brandon Pajewski is the one that stands out you are in trouble I am deeply concerned about this Warriors team. Yaksal Lendingboard better be like a phenom day one he better like jump off the page as like oh my god and word is that it's been great but that's about like out on the Warriors jazz though I think you're really interesting right here like they're playing the clippers actually is a word to play but the jazz are going to play the nuggets on Sunday and so.

14:58Jazz playing nuggets in Boulder Colorado should be a fun one I'll be there you know you're not talking about nuggets all the time I locked on nuggets but let's talk about this jazz team should be the debut of not thought the debut because Jaron did play a lot here the official kind of like all right reset of this new look team. Kionte George Darren Peterson Laurie market and Jaron Jackson Jr. use of Nurgage maybe a Spaley in the starting lineup I mentioned all those kind of elements what are you going to be looking for is the jazz kind of finally finally start to actually win some games. I think I'm curious to see what the how they're going to play the ace Bailey Darren Peterson game because both of them are both extremely young players that need to play both of them are over talented I thought he's got way better as the season went on he is an Uber athlete as well he could shoot he has passing chops but but Darren is like a you know he to bonafide like kind of a Kobe disciple but just kind of Kyrie but bigger like not as skilled as Kyrie is but like it's not like a

16:00extremely skilled to guard very good shooter very fast very strong very explosive they're going to have one of the best back course I think in the NBA in the next few years Kionte George is an offensive guru 23 points of game six this last year I'm really good efficiency now he is a zero percentile and y'all think I'm kidding he is a zero percentile defender like if you go to that about it right now it's going to say zero and then a one and then this is going to be working on T George follows but really good offensive player and I think this is going to be a very interesting year for him to play point guard because this is one of the things you know I talked to Raymond fell today on player's choice you know one of the things you said he played versus one of your favorites of all time at your mirror Nelson in 2010 the year of the magic after the year they went to the NBA finals and Jameer was given Raymond the business and he just simply said like I just didn't have the experience that Jameer had I didn't know what I was doing and I didn't know what I didn't know and Kionte he's so young you're being asked to play point guard now yeah like you have a bunch of play finishers on the roster with you ace is not a point guard Darren is not a point guard JJ JJ Lori

17:16Nourkage is his second best playmaker in a rotation going to mean you said Nourkage like as a hub wow yeah you're kind of right so I think but that's good though like right you know hey brother good luck throwing air with sharks but I think that's going to be a lot of fun to watch how he develops this year I am you know Nourk's defensive numbers were really they pop out the page and he's a much better player than he was in Denver and I had a lot of leftover biases from his time in Denver I gotta get over I still kind of like you know I go back and forth on this about all right if you play trip at center you're not going to rebound at all that's a problem but I like I like the ace Bailey Lori market in Jaron Jackson front court is just like God that's so much spacing and firepower yeah Bailey it's stunned me last season you know because like I saw him at the beginning of the year and was like yeah okay skinny kid you know typical rookie Bailey beefed up over the course of that season where by the last matchup I saw him in Denver I was looking at ace Bailey like God this kids a tank

18:23and I just I I have you know for all of his pre draft stuff I've really kind of come around on because he is just really polished you know in Peterson obviously there's going to be a lot of expectation and hype around him I do it I'm with you on the I'm going to be interested to see how they navigate this like starting from from day one like it's preseason so it's fine nobody has any expectations but you can better believe if Darren Peterson comes out and has 25 and Bailey struggles or what I think is more likely which is that ace Bailey comes in has like 18 and limited minutes and Darren struggles because it's a rookie and it's his first time and they played together for a week that's going to be a story it just is continuously throughout the season tracking ace and and Darren not as teammates but his potential competitors over who's going to be the face of that franchise I think that's going to be something that's going to be a story whether they want it to be or not is it going to be could so two examples of a cane of mine right away Deerin Fox and Dylan Harper there are two different timelines one of them making 50 plus million the other one's not

19:29but then James Harden rest of Westbrook yeah if I'm Utah I'm there I'm not even because I'm tell both of them are our guys neither one of them are the hey you know like the Joker and in dark night you know and he cut the broke the pool stick and said hey one spot remaining you know get out here and go get it I don't think it shouldn't be that it really should be hey y'all look at you have the chance to be the best back court into sports and one of you is a rookie one of you's year two and we're going to put all of our resources in to make both of you better and we can change up lineup top we see fit one of y'all can play the point guard combo the other one play the y'all ball guard and ace is big enough where you can move him to the three that you can have him play next to JJJ and Lori if you want that's a thing about that JJ Lori ace and Darren and Kionte or whoever you want to put their bright sense involved there's like all kinds of talent on Utah I think for a Utah jazz fan they're both pillars ace to

20:31me has shown me enough that I think he can be a future star potentially in this league the work has to happen when you have to get there but for me this should be a really healthy competition between two extremely gifted young players now I think they're young enough Matt tour they can be molded at this point because you know better than I do that once a player starts experiencing a good amount of success and early on they weren't taught that hey this is a two-party system both of you are going to be the pillars here easily then that's when you can start to get some of these unhealthy dynamics later on you know as players get towards the contract talks like in year three and four and all that but honestly man I would be ecstatic if I was a jazz fan because this is the better core than they have with Donovan Mitchell Rudy go bare to me personally that's tough that's really really good they were really good yeah for sure it's real good yeah Rudy is one of the most packed with players ever but they do have so they have so many guys I think it's the exciting part about Utah so it should be really fun to watch

25:47there's a lot of chatter about him coming out of Atlanta obviously this year and then you know Anyaka Kong Wu Jalen Johnson Dyson Daniels this team is actually going to be really good and they're going to be a nightmare to play against and look if CJ can continue to rebuild on that magic that he was creating in that next series he's always been like the the sleepiest 21 points for game that you know about and he also it's a super efficient score as well I'm excited to see how he continues to take that step with Nikhil and Tyson and Chalin with that offense and Jalen you know if you can take another step as a as a score in particular this year this team should be good and I'm really excited to see what their rotations gonna look like I want to know where Kingston Fleming is just gonna kind of fill out in their roster and depth chart rotation and when he's gonna be getting in the games this should be a lot of fun to watch them and obviously Poozre I mean Poozre I think there's the there's a Brody average is five assists a game this year yeah yeah I think 25 five is legitimate the only table for Cameron Boozre I think he's that good that's a Tyree Kevin's

26:49line for those of you the old heads of the crew six years are gonna debut I guess they be like LeBron's not gonna play and he's not gonna play right so it's just really it's just Jalen Brown and Tyree's Maxi which is fine they'll play the nicks on Monday as well I don't know much like I don't really know what to expect we we're gonna have to wait till opening night to really see the sixers and start evaluating them the Lakers I think will be just to see who gets the starting nod for the Lakers regardless of whether dodge is plays or not the three and the four I think are two spots that we need to keep an eye on as far as like who's playing where for that team I think that the starters are a big question mark there my biggest thing is when you're watching preseason if you really want to be able to kind of like take a step back and instead of watching the individual moves is pay attention to who feels like they're connected and that everybody knows what they're supposed to be doing because there will be teams where you're gonna notice after the first couple of sets or read sets that you're just gonna notice that the offense kind of devolves even when the starters

27:50are on the court that's a good good sign for you that they're not in sync yet and I'm expecting with a lot of these changes sixers jazz he a lot of these teams I'm expecting to struggle early on because they're making not just a you could make a lot of roster changes and keep the same core in system but some of these changes have required reorganizing and restructuring a lot of what they're gonna do you'll be able to pay attention to that if you kind of look for look try and pay attention to how these teams look on both ends of the floor in terms of being organized that's the best way for you to tell kind of where they're at in their process of figuring stuff out do you think that same thing's gonna apply to the wolves this year yes yeah I think I'm expecting turnover is a plenty as the timber will take on the bucks on Monday um even with a bad bucks defense I'm just expecting the term that's gonna be a big problem for both Ann and Lonzo I think is figuring out hello sorry lamella ball how to mean no sorry lianjula my bad right no no sorry lavaire my bad sorry

28:57where do you stand on on on parents naming their kids all of like with the same l yeah with anything like there's like there's ones that are like jade in and jalen and japan that's fine you know it's just it makes it more difficult for you all to remember that child's name because you know you're inevitably gonna call them the wrong name you know and then that's gonna make it even worse could like Jordan just to just to boy come here you know one of those yeah absolutely uh okay last thing before we get out of here I just want to kind of comment on this um there's been a lot of commentary about the blazers uh commentary fiasco you can go read about it I don't really want to get into it um which offer a little little okay uh I don't I gotta look up the kid's name they hired an inexperienced guy that they thought was a quote star yeah the vetting process wasn't as clean or in the original stuff his name is braiden bell braiden bell

29:59that's what I'm thinking for that braiden bell and braiden bell had tweets that were insensitive and racist and bad and those things from when he was like 15 at the time but I like on this show I don't want to get into like the dynamics of how do we judge people when they were children versus like the reality is that this was a a flood from blazers from start to finish and when it was explained by reporting that bell was hired because he was quote a rising star a lot of us in the industry had the same read on that which is oh he was cheap he's young so he's cheaper which gets back to dundin um following up on that is a report from the athletic by Jason quick quickspin all over this and he's been covering it pretty consistently so as bill orm there's been a lot of conversations about what exactly dundins long term insistences and I want to get to this part um Hankins is the name of a of a guy that does work with the blazers
