Welcome to the FIRST episode of ‘She gets SIT done’. In the first episode we discuss OVER-socialisation. Yes, you read that right. Over-socialisation is when we expose our dog to too many people/dogs and eventually end up with a dog that is FRIENDLY off lead.. but a nightmare on lead, especially when they see another dog or person. There is SO MUCH information out there about socialisation but the main one found is: let your dog meet as many people and dogs as you can to make sure they're friendly. When really it should be QUALITY over QUANTITY. Giving your dog too much access to dogs/people will often create a leash reactive dog that can't settle and will have impulse control issues. We feel it’s a topic that isn’t often discussed but its a HUGE topic a lot of people struggle with. We hope this can help you. What do we cover: 1. What is oversocialisation? 2. Only meet RELEVANT people on your walks/outings. 2. When you meet a relevant person expect calmness from your dog. No attention for hyper mindsets! 3. Practise hanging out and making things a non event. 4. Parallel Walking when meeting new dogs is a fantastic way to introduce dogs and teach them calm behaviours.
