Sports Day Tampa Bay — Mike Evans Leaves The Buccaneers, To Sign With The 49ers. Machine-transcribed; use the interactive transcript above to jump the player to any line.
Well, I guess Mike Evans destined to play his whole career in a city by the bay, right? I mean, that's actually 49ers are now in what Santa Clara is not San Francisco anymore. Well, maybe he isn't, isn't just a one-year deal. He could go play somewhere else next year then. Wow, that's true. We'll get into that in just a minute. So now it's just a three-year 60 million dollar deal, but yeah, not quite that in actual dollars. We'll talk about that in just a minute. But listen, this was, these are always hard things. And we've been talking about an ad nauseam for weeks like, what is Mike going to do? What is Mike going to do? What does he really want? I think it became pretty clear about two hours into the free agent negotiating period, also known as legal tampering that began on noon on Monday. And can I just say, Adam Schaefter is a freaking machine. Like I never cease to be pretty much amazed, quite frankly, what he's able to do when he gets
on these roles. And it was just one after another, you know, just like, and they had him on Pat McVey and they'd like had some graphics, like, boom, you know, there wasn't quite the woj bomb, but it was like the chefter or something. And just, I mean, just he gets them all, he gets them all first, he gets them all right. When the, you know, sort of the broadcast started, the bucks started doing things like resigning K-Dot and we'll get into who they'll stay, they ended up with like, you know, three transactions in about the first half hours, like, whoa, the bucks are kind of aggressive here. But then they kept, you know, forecasting that you could be something with Mike Evans, later today, expecting pretty soon to first couple hours. And sure enough, they started dropping hints, but maybe a surprise team went out there, whatever. He ends up with the 49ers and I don't think that's a surprise team because we've talked about it. And it became very clear, if you read his agent's statement or anything else during his last few weeks, that this was not about money. The, the bucks made a competitive offer,
whether it was $16 million, he's really getting from the Niners or $20 million for three years, times three years. It doesn't matter. The bucks offer, I think, was competitive. What Derek Gilmore more or less laid out is that while Tampa will always be home to him, he wanted a challenge. He wanted, he wants to win. And I think we saw that demonstrated last year, Atlanta, obviously, the third and 28 screens. But he says, you know, at this stage of his career, Mike's goals remain the same as they've always been to compete for another Super Bowl, to play in an offensive system that challenges defenses and to be an environment where he can continue to push himself and contribute at the highest level. So clearly, he doesn't just want to win. He wants to be the reason they win. He wants to be the featured guy. He sees the number of receivers on this football team, even though when they won a Super Bowl, let's be honest, they had Gronk, they had Antonio Brown, they had Godwin, you know, running backs, plenty of weapons on that team too. But I think we can, the snapshot where ground zero was for this
relationship as it were, is that Atlanta game and the famous third and 28 coming off the field. After they blew a 14 point lead in the final nine minutes, that was it. I mean, I really think, you know, he probably felt they're not going to do enough in the off season to bring in enough defensive players that they're stacked at receiver. I may or may not get what I want from a Saudi standpoint, but then I also think that you get to a certain point in your career where you go, well, this will be my last bite of the apple. I'm not going to get a fifth contract. So if I'm ever going to leave Tampa, now's the time to do it. Let's see what else is out there. And he found something all those can be true. Right. But maybe you could trace it back to drafting a mecca abuka with the first round pick last year. That's not a bad ground zero either. I think he wants to be the featured receiver. Sure. As much as great things as he said about a mecca and I believe everything he said he believed in is true. But drafting that instead of an ed rusher for two reasons.
One, you may not be the featured receiver anymore. And two, you didn't fix your ed rush. Yeah, exactly. Kind of hurt him in two ways, which can lead to fourth and 20 air third and 28, fourth and 14 getting first out. Sure. No, I think it all works hand in hand. And I do think that Mike has a keen awareness of where this team is headed and that not only with a mecca who obviously was a great pick, not quite ready to be. I mean, the other thing he demonstrated when Mike was hurt that he's not ready to be a number one. At least he wasn't last year. He had a great first five games when he was their second or third option and getting single coverage. And then when, you know, Chris Godwin went down when Jayla Mielin was down when Evans was all down when all three of those guys were out. All of a sudden it became much harder, you know, for the rookie to to try to be productive. That said, he knows they've drafted his replacement. He knows that Chris Godwin is only in the second year of a three year contract and that Chris is a few years younger,
even though Chris is going into his tenth season. So he's not a young man by any stretch either, especially with all the injuries he's had, but he could do the math. He knows there's only so many footballs. If you throw 25 to 30 times a game like you want to, not like you have to, that doesn't leave him a lot of targets. And I'm sure he wants to make sure that he gets his, but more importantly, he wants them because he wants to win the game. He wants to be the reason you win. He wants to help his team win. So I've been through this many times whether it was John Lynch, Warren, Sap, you know, Derek Brooks is the only one who decided to retire per say. Even Simian Rice was going to go play somewhere until injuries wouldn't allow him to. So, you know, plenty of examples in sports and football. It just kind of always felt we were headed here. You know, I think they they pretty much laid the groundwork for the argument that he was leaving for for the last few weeks. And I think for the Niners, they think it's a good thing. They don't have,
you know, a number one receiver who can play the true exposition and, you know, run different conversations. So that brand and I you can then they voided that contract. Yeah, they voided him because he wouldn't show up and, you know, learn older team like they're going to have to get more more pieces too. But when you think about Kyle Shanahan, how he creates space in all his different schemes and now he has somebody like Evans that you can put out there that will create more space because he'll have to you'll have to play cloud coverage. You'll have to run a safety down on him. It's going to make that whole offense even even more dangerous. And Brock party is a very capable quarterback, maybe beyond capable, been to a Super Bowl already in his career. They do have a good backup quarterback in in Matt, you know, in Jones. So I think, you know, the pieces are there in the best play caller in the NFL, this side of John or Sean McVeigh is there. So, you know, look, for whatever, for all those reasons, but I think the biggest one being Mike wants to win.
Mike wants to win. You can't convince me that if the bucks, as they were sold, said to have had a very competitive offer that they were, you know, really making a push, really didn't want him to leave. And I believe that what it didn't come down to money, the money just doesn't seem to be so exorbitant that you couldn't or wouldn't offer. I mean, he's going to count 13 million against the cap and he's not here, right? You don't have the player and yet the acceleration on all the bonuses and stuff you paid him to create cap space in the past. He's costing you $13 million as it is. So if it's, you know, and there were reports out there that instead of, you know, three years, $60 million is really more like two years, you know, 30 something million with 16 million guaranteed, which makes it really a one year, $16 million contract. I always look at whatever's guaranteed. And that tells me what the contract is, you know, if you guarantee $40 million over two years, it's a $20 million a year, if you guarantee $16 million over three years, it's a one year, $16 million deal. You know, that's just kind of high-see things. But however, I was trying to think like,
this is about as emotional, like you've seen these, these edits and these tributes to Mike throughout the years. And you know, he came here, you forget how young he was, he was 20 years old, two zero years old when he was drafted here out of A&M. You know, this round, cherubic face, and he probably weighed about 240, you know, kind of a junk food eater. And we watched him grow up, we watched his family grow, watched him get married to Ashley, like just all the things he's done. Brady comes, he's changes his body, the model of consistency on and off the field, you know, 10 or 11 straight thousand yard seasons, just incredible stuff. Gray is offensive player in franchise history. And yet, the people both, Mike is beloved. I mean, Mike will be one of the most beloved bucking years in history. He'll go right into the ring of honor when he's done playing. He'll go into Canton five years after he's through, he's through. Much like Brady, you know, it doesn't matter where he plays next.
He's going to be a bucking year forever and be in the ring of honor. So all that's going to happen. And yet, I got to tell you, you get a little lump in your throat when you see, you know, kind of the retrospectives on his career. Like, there were some pretty powerful moments. And the first six years, the dude did not make the playoffs, you know, but he had some really special moments in a special connection with fans that very few, very few NFL players get to have. And I think it was two ways. I think he felt that way about them. And they felt that way about him. And I think this ruined a lot of people's nights. It did, but at the same time, this is what happens in sports. As much as it can stink as a fan, you know, players earn the right to choose where they want to play after they've played so long in the contracts, you know, come up. And, you know, two years ago, he didn't choose to go elsewhere. He chose to to resign before he got to free agency. And whether it was the performance the last year or two or just wanting to try something
new, do something different, it was probably too much for him to stay. You know, I think that, I don't think we'll ever fully know. And I don't think it's any one thing. No, I don't either. I think it's a combination of stuff, you know, I think he's seen guys like Tom Brady, who taught him a lot, go to a place and find success. And yeah, he not only saw it. We didn't need to think, are we not even naive to think that he probably talked to Tom? I would imagine he did. Now, you know, the Raiders are not in that place where they can say, Hey, come, we'd love to have you in Las Vegas, but I don't know that we're going to win a Super Bowl the next year or two. So there was that. But I think Tom, Tom would tell him and his told others that, you know, I learned there was life after the Patriots that there's other way of doing things, you know, it doesn't mean they're better, but they're just different and it can be energizing, you know. Re invigorating sometimes, you know, new places, the new challenge, the new, the new challenges, what he specifically mentioned. Yeah, he's probably got a year or two or three left in his career.
Correct. I mean, you never know. Maybe he plays longer, but you know, at this point, I think he's probably taking a year by year. He's a year by year guy. No question. Yeah. And so, you know, hey, do I want to try something different? Do I, you know, I always kind of look at it like when I retire next year, you're after whatever. What would I regret more? Leaving Tampa Bay or not trying something new? Because I don't know what else is out there. And each person is going to be different how they judge that. Some players that may be important to state than the same city their whole career. Others may be say, you know what I've been here? Decade plus? I want to try something different. Well, I think he only got a year or two or three left. I think he came close the last time. I think he was really struggling with it mentally. And both Jason Light and Mike said that their wives were the folk were the kind of like the the linchpin of the whole thing that that Ashley kind of said, why don't we just wait in for the first time? Like, why don't we just stay here
and then Blair was telling, you know, Jason Light that you don't want to be the GM that lets Mike Evans out of the building and she was right. And so they kind of it kind of arrived at it through their better halves. But the whole time, you know, Kansas City might have been a consideration. Go back to Houston in this time around. I'm sure there were other teams, but San Francisco, that's a tough division out there. Think about the receivers in that division. It's incredible. Devonte Adams and Pukinakua and, you know, the guy in Seattle is incredible. Like, there's a ton of Smith and Jigbaugh Cooper top still. I mean, he's all still around, but yeah. And so it's really remarkable. And all those teams were fantastic. And really, even with all the injuries, San Francisco was just a few points away from beating Seattle for the NFC West. And maybe they would have found their way if not for all the injuries to the back to the Super Bowl. Is Mike the missing piece for the 49ers? Maybe not, but he certainly gets them closer to it if he can be healthy and
productive in all those things. And I know that Shanahan is going to put him in the best possible position. They haven't had a guy like that in the red zone. He's unstoppable. Like, you literally, I don't care what you do. You want to double him, want to play zone, want to play man. He's just too dynamic down there. He's too good of an athlete. You can't cover him. That's going to help any team in that red area. And you know, he simply put up numbers that, you know, or Jerry Rice like. And you know, here he's going to Jerry Rice's, you know, former stomping grounds. But I it's there's still it's still sadness. I think for the Bucks fans is still a little shocking. And look, those guys that were drafted here for a reason, like a mecca Bukka, I think it's going to be a fine player. I talked to Chris Godwin on Friday when he was at the, the she is football event. And he just said, man, it's going to be weird. And he even mentioned this. So this tells you that Chris knew something, right? So Chris says to me, he goes, it's just going to be weird.
Like, I can't imagine seeing him in a different uniform and be almost like Michael Jordan with the Wizards. He goes, and then was he going to have a different number two? You know what? He will. And where would that occur? San Francisco, because Brock Purdy is number 13. And so Mike, not likely to get the quarterbacks number will probably take three or something like that. So, yeah, Chris, it will be different. For the first time, I think in three straight years, the Bucks don't play the 49ers unless they were to get to the postseason. They're not on the regular season schedule. So Bucks fans won't get to see him or see him play against his former team this year, unless it's in the postseason. But, you know, yeah. And no matter what happens going forward, I mean, I suppose the Bucks could still sign Trey Hendrickson or someone like that, a big splashy name. But this will be there. This will be what's remembered of their offseason. You know what I mean?
It won't be Alex Anzaloni. Well, maybe. I mean, if you play as well, can you just, that's the other thing. Alex, okay. So Anzaloni, who I'm not, I don't know, former Gator, who am I to rip him? They needed help at linebacker. They need help inside linebacker. Clearly. And but I guess my question would be, is a 31 year old that's not particularly great against the run, but can cover? Is that really the best you can do? Like, is that, you know, is that going to shore up the defense right there? And we don't know what Levanti Davis going to do. But you're probably going to, you're probably going to draft an inside linebacker now or two. We'll see. But Anzaloni is 31 years old. Good player, I think still. But, you know, not exactly like, oh, we're okay there. I mean, you bring back K dot and I think, ostensibly because you knew you're going to lose evidence, right? If Evans had signed here, maybe you don't have the money for
Otton, who's going to make around, I think $10 million a year or thereabouts. I mean, Otton's been a good, not great player. He can block some, he can receive her some 63 games, 207 receptions, 20, 2018 yards and 11 touchdowns. Only had one, one touchdown a year ago, right? And the tie-in in-room is not dynamic. You got him, Pan Durham and Devin Culp are all back. So, did we get better? No, that's a wash, right? You had K dot and now you still have K dot and only at a higher price. You know, so I don't know that that necessarily was great. And then they get Kenneth Gainwell who actually think is a good pickup, you know, after losing Rashad White or about to lose Rashad White since he's torched every bridge out of Tampa. Gain was a guy that was, you know, originally drafted by the Eagles, but you know what? Last year in Pittsburgh, he's five foot nine, 200 pounds. He wound up with 1,023 total yards from Scrimmage and eight
touchdowns. That's good production, really good production. Had a lot of yards receiving, you know, can kind of kind of, you know, whether it's short yards receiving back, be a good complement to Bucky Irving. So I kind of like that, that's signing to be honest with you. I think that, that that makes a lot of sense. And the special teams coach for the Bucks, of course, is a Steelers coach, special teams coordinators Danny Smith. So I assure you that Danny Smith knows all about this guy and was able to relate that Todd Bowles. So they got deeper in the running back room. Okay. They didn't get Tyler Rousey years who went to the Cardinals. I thought that would have been a good fit for Zach Robinson, but they got deeper in the running back room. They retained their tight end and they found an inside linebacker that still has plenty of juice and should be able, should be just fine. Probably cover the middle a little bit better in past coverage. That's not, that that did not just get you from eight wins to 12 or 14. Like you're way short of the bar. Like
you still have to get some impact player off the edge. You know, they lost Jamel Dean to the Steelers. He got paid. He got a pretty good contract. I mean, they think that Benjamin Morrison and Jacob Parish, one of those guys will emerge as a starter and one will play nickel when he's not outside. So they kind of prepared for that a year ago, which is fine. I thought Jamel had a really good season. He still gets nicked up too much for my money. And he got paid. But where are you? How are you better? Like how much better are you? Like Anzaloni, 2%. You know, and we haven't gotten, you know, very far. I mean, we haven't gotten to the actual signing period yet. We're still in the negotiating phase, but that is parts and parcel what this is about. Like you can agree to deals right now. So and I don't know how much money the bucks have. I don't know what contracts they reworked if any. They still have stuff they need. Obviously, including a backup quarterback and just depth really at every position. But the three of the first players off the board, when the free
agent, negotiating periods started at noon, we're, we're the Buccaneers transactions. You know, and so they jumped right in there, but they didn't necessarily land the marquee guys. So I don't know. You lose Mike Evans. You add a couple of players. I don't know that that's that's putting you over the top. I think you're treading water at this point a little bit. With lots of different transactions and agreements around the NFL, not just with the Buccaneers. So we'll get to those in just a second in the meantime. Get on down to Brightling Boutique. That's an international plaza mall center of the mall. Second floor. That's where you're going to find the Brightling Boutique. Now the Brightening company has been in business making Swiss watches now. We're going on 140 years. They've been an international plaza for six years. And when you go up there, you're going to notice how great the customer service is. Second to none. They're known for their men's watches. The Chrono Mount watches. The Navi timers also have ladies watches for your wife or girlfriend. These are sports watches. Incredibly durable, really beautiful and all kinds of different colors. Risk bands that she can choose from. But as you approach the store, be aware
of the glass case on the left, you're going to see the NFL shield. It's going to say NFL because inside are some examples of the NFL team watches. This is while supplies last. There are 32 teams and Brightling has made 32 team watches to celebrate the league's 104th year anniversary. The last time I was there, they had the Buccaneers team watch, the Jaguars team watch. Just incredible with the, you know, the face is the color of the team with the logos inside. It's a collector's item. It's something that's a keepsake that you're going to want. It's Brightling Boutique, only their international plaza mall. When you go, make sure you let me know you heard about it on Sports Day Tampa Bay. I hit around the league. There were obviously some interesting signings and I think somewhere surprising, some not Malik Willis goes from Green Bay. Obviously, their former assistant coaches now, the head coach of the Miami Dolphins. He goes and agrees
the terms with with the Dolphins. I thought the Colts were able to retain Alec Pierce. He was the number one receiver. He got a huge deal four years. I think over $114 million to remain with the Colts. Michael Pittman, meanwhile, got traded to Pittsburgh. We know about Mike Evans, obviously, with the 49ers. Kenneth Walker, who is kind of the star of the Seattle Seahawks Super Bowl win. Him and Travis ETN from Jacksonville are going to be joining the Kansas City Chiefs and New Orleans Saints respectively. So ETN, who's from Louisiana Ghosts in Orleans, Kenneth Walker, to Kansas City. And then, and this was somewhat somewhat surprising, Dolphins quarterback Tua Tagalaloa, signs a one-year deal to join the Atlanta Falcons in Michael Pennicks. And I'll tell you what's interesting about this is it's not a small thing. Both quarterbacks are left-handed, obviously. And there is a very, you know, it's a minority of quarterbacks that are left-handed throughout league history. But it is a thing like I remember how upset Gruden used to get when he
had Chris Sims, because I got to switch everything around right is left. I mean, I mean, and so now you have an offense where both quarterbacks are South Paul's. So they run the same thing, you know, they have the same protection schemes and rollouts and boots and things like that. But it is interesting, you know, Pennicks coming off an injury, you think about Tua, who has had many concussions and has had a tough time staying healthy himself. But, you know, with Kevin Stofansky, maybe not I thought this was a curious, but maybe assigning that works out for the Falcons and for really both those quarterbacks for Tua Tagalaloa perhaps. Yeah, we'll see. I mean, I know you're higher on Pennicks than I am. As a quarterback. Well, the problem is his health. I mean, that what he came in with and that's what's happened. He's gotten hurt. So yeah, but I am in general. I think I think he's a really good thrower of the football and I think he's accurate. I just, beyond that, he's got to prove
to me he's down the field. And two of the same way. Tua is exactly. So you got two quarterbacks with long injury histories. Neither one of them have been able to maintain, you know, health for 16 games, which is curious, but it is what it is. So we're still waiting to see. Well, you got the edge rusher in Carolina. Jalen Phillips sign there. Phillips was a great signing. I thought, yeah, I like that one. Rashon Gary was traded from the Packers to the Cowboys. Correct. Yeah. Yeah, he was. Jalen Phillips, you mentioned Devin Lloyd also went to and I thought he was a guy that made the bucks would look at linebacker. He also went to Carolina three years, 45 million dollars. The backup quarterback, which the bucks are in a, you know, in a market for a backup quarterback. Kenny Pickett goes to Carolina one year, seven point five million dollars with four million dollars guaranteed. Chicago Bears signed Devin Bush three years, 30 million. He was another
inside linebacker that the bucks may or may not have had an interest in. Just looking through here, man, there's so many of these reagents that went. And when I say signed, they actually agreed to terms in a lot of instances with these teams that can actually sign a contract until Wednesday after four o'clock. Yeah, so, you know, there were enough Kenneth, oh, another big one, Kenneth Walker, the third from Seattle that, you know, did a really good job. I think I mentioned him. Yeah, you mentioned him. Yeah, three years, up to 45 million. With 28.7 guarantee, he got paid Travis Kelsey's coming back. Yes, he is. One year, $12 million, which means Tate in the building again, those crazy NFL and CBS, particularly because they get a lot of chiefs games love in that. Hello, friends. They want Tate in the suite. Donnie. Yeah, they wonder in the suite. And you know, she said to them, you're playing, right? Well, honey, I was thinking, no, no, that was not a question. You're playing
right. And so he did. Yeah. But still, I mean, none of these, none of these are, you know, all that teams are Super Bowl team now, right? Like, there's no, there was nothing that was blockbuster. Isaiah likely goes to the Giants. I thought he was a tight end. The books could look at if they didn't re-sign K dotten. Um, tomorrow Davis from Arkansas State goes to the Jets. We mentioned that, uh, I'll make up this Patrick. That was crazy. He got traded from the dolphins. Yeah, to the Jets, to the Jets, which is not necessarily where we want to go. Still, maybe they'll get a, maybe he'll help get an interception next year. So, yeah, no, Jamel Dean, though, I'm happy for him. Remember last year he took a pick cut all the way down to four million. And now he signs with the Pittsburgh Steelers for three years, 36 and a half million. Again, don't know the breakdowns. What's guaranteed? What's not? That all remains to be
seen. The Sioux, Sioux, the ox retained Rasheets Shaheed, three years, 51 million dollars, 34 million guaranteed that was done a while ago. Um, we talked about the Buccaneers. Yeah, it's just, you know, it was a busy day. I mean, it was a busy day with a lot of players moving on and back and forth. And some of them signing with their own teams, but I don't know, you know, did the Bucks get better by 2%, 1%, like I don't know, you know, you lose your shot white, you get gain, well, okay, um, one in one out, maybe gain was a little bit better. Um, well, you lost, I mean, you know, right now you've lost white and Tucker. So gain, well, I mean, the grant, you will see who the third back is. Yeah. And you could still to be fair, you could still resign Tucker. You just weren't going to give him the $3 million tender him in. Him and Christian is, you know, both kind of in the same. And to that matter, with those guys, they don't have to be put on waivers until Wednesday at four o'clock. So they're,
they're still a window where they presumably could resign them or take them back, you know, sign up for a lesser deal, that kind of thing. Um, so they're still exclusive rights for now. So where's the help coming from? You know, where are these guys going to, where they really going to make an impact? Um, they could get another inside linebacker, I suppose, but if they don't address the edge rusher position, both in the draft, I think and, and in free agency, I think you're missing the boat. I think you're going to have to keep building on defense, keep throwing stuff out there and see if something sticks. And, um, you know, whether that becomes a big name or not, we're going to see. Um, but it's hard to imagine that you lose a mic Evans and you think you're going to be better for it, right? Not many teams are better. Even at Mike's age, even at with the amount of injuries he had last year, most of it freakish with the broken collarbone, you're still a better football team with him on the field. You just are. And, and injuries happen. And, and whether, you know, say, say McMillan gets hurt or got a bit of Bukka and, you know,
if you have a mic Evans, life is still still pretty functional. Um, then you take him out of the equation and, and you're not as good, because you're not as good behind your starters. So a lot of growing up has to do and has to happen once. I just, I just wonder what like a baker may feel this thing. I know this is not a good night for him. Like, I know it's not. But because Mike, but he's also known this, if Chris Godwin knew last week, then you know, Baker didn't know. I sensed that Chris may have known. I mean, he was mentioned in Mike, change the numbers. And so how many teams would he have to change numbers for? I'm not accusing him of anything. I just, you know, but yeah, I think all the, all these players have had to come to grips with the fact that Mike was, we did it. We did it for weeks here. You know, I'm 60, 40, I'm 70, 30, I mean, and there was a time just a few days ago. I thought he's gonna end up right back here in Tampa, you know, but then you find out it's not about money. And you find out it's not it, you know, and this is an unavoidable on my timeline. Let me get this straight. They fired seven coaches and or retired seven coaches, right? And they lost
Mike Evans to free agency and the defense stunk. But we're getting rid of Evans and Todd Bulls is still the head coach. Like, what are we doing? You know, I mean, they made the decision on the head coach a while ago. That's the bottom line except that don't accept it. It doesn't matter. Todd Bulls is the head coach of the bucks for this season, at least. And I don't know if he's putting his thumb on a scale for any of these personal decisions in the first place. I'm sure he would love to have Mike Evans, but at the expense of whom and what? I don't know. You know, I don't sense that the glazers are going to now, you know, buy a bunch of big ticket items now that Mike is going. And he's still again, he's still costing them 13 million on the salary cap. So you're saving some money, but not not all of it. And you don't have the player. So it's just, it's a tough thing. It's, you know, I always think the free agency is sort of like the draft in the first round. About 50% of the guys you get will actually help you and pan out. And the other 51 and there's
no way around that really, whether it's age, scheme fit, injury, whatever. And Mike, you know, miss the most games is every missing his career. And you could do that again. You just don't know how I hope not. Oh, I certainly hope not, but just, you know, what's going to happen in the next 48 hours. I mean, they don't even really have the actual signing period doesn't begin to newly geared them again till Wednesday at 4 p.m. We've got a long way to go and we've come a long way already. So I would expect more action. Don't know how much money the bucks have left. Don't know if they redid some deals. It would appear they may have had to. But not having to sign Mike Evans, brought you Kate Aughton back. And I don't know how you feel about Aughton. I think Aughton's a good, not great player. I don't know that I, I mean, you need to tie it in and pain during may not be yet yet. And Devin Colt may not be yet yet. But man, I think Kate's a good tight end.
He's not a star. He's not a stud. He's not like, I think you can upgrade that position still. Would you do if you're paying him 10 million a year? And that's the hard part is, like, I don't know if he's worth 10 million a year. Yeah, that's my thing is he's never had more than 600 yards receiving in a season or it's also never been featured too. I mean, like, no, that's true. His only big time has been like when all the receivers are hurt, then he has stepped up and he's performed in those situations, which shows you what's capable of. Yes, when called upon, he'll give you a hundred yards. Yeah. I mean, he's not a featured part of this offense. No, he's not. And so, yeah, he's not. So maybe I'm short-changing him a little bit, but you know, I mean, when Evans was down and got it, like, he stepped up last season, predicted not this past one, but the year before he really stepped up. No, he spit out some hundred yard games and some touchdowns. You had one touchdown last year. One. Yep. In fact, all the tight ends only had two. Devin Colp had one as well.
So not a lot of red zone production from your tight end position, especially when you have people like Evans and Godwin and McMillan and such. Just a long way to go, man. And it's just the start of things. It was fast and furious. I mean, four transactions alone involving the bucks and there will be more. So make sure you keep it on Tampa Bay.com. Look at the Tampa Bay Times for updates for the next several days. The lightning are back. Are they headed back into town? Or are they still going home game tonight against Columbus? This is a big week for them, home stand wise. So Columbus is, I believe they're the first team out of the playoffs, but they're right there on the wild card line. So they'll play the blue jackets tonight. They get the red wings on Thursday who are in a playoff spot. And then they get Carolina on Saturday. So all three home games. And they enter the game having lost four out of their last six, I think. Five out of the last six. Five out of the last six. Yeah. They lost four in a row. Then they beat Toronto and lost to Buffalo. Oh, that's right. Okay. So five out six since returning from the
Olympic break. So yeah, these three games. And then they go to Western Canada next week. So they go to Seattle, Vancouver, Edmonton, Calgary. That's the next week. So those are some late nights, by the way, those are 10 o'clock games. Yeah, that sucks. But we'll be recording before him. Yeah, I was going to say, we'll be done by the first period. But yeah, the lighting your home tomorrow night. So it'll be a late night for us to record tomorrow night, just FYI. Yeah, we're doing it for you people, by the way. So you know, not like we want to stay up. Okay, we have lives and daylight savings time. We thank you. You know, well, now really, daylight savings time. Thank you. Not at all. I want, if I were King of the world, we eliminate daylight savings time because we're not really saving daylight. I mean, we're not, we're not like farmers, we don't want to eliminate daylight. I want to stay at daylight savings time year round. That's, well, okay, I'm good with that. Yeah, I don't want to go back to standard time and stay there. I want to, I want to light. Well, what's wrong? Okay, can I ask what's wrong with standard time? I mean, you know, the way, the way it works in their solar system,
right? The earth is going to tilt on its access. And you're, yeah, you're going to have summer or winter based on which, which poll is pointed towards the sun or closest to the sun. Like, does it matter really? Like, can we just let, let the sun be the sun? It comes up, when it comes up, it goes down, when it goes down. And yeah, but I don't want to get home from working as dark already. That's what I don't like. But you only do that for a certain number of days. And then when you crease this, look, it's, it's now going to be light till about 830, but it was light till 730 and getting longer. The days were getting longer. So I'm fine with that. Just let nature take us course. So we, I mean, I don't, I have to look up the origins of daylight savings time. I imagine it was to save energy. Obviously, I think Benjamin Franklin invented or something like that. Are you serious right now? Yeah. Okay. Well, I mean, I think it would be related to farming perhaps because that way, you know, if you stay up later and then you don't have to use burn the lights and the candles and things, I don't know. I don't know. But whatever, I hate it. So it
wasn't, I don't think it was Benjamin Franklin. It was William Willett. William Willett. The British builders credited with inventing and campaigning for daylight savings time frustrated by wasting daylight hours during early morning rides. He published the waste of daylight in 1907 to promote shifting clocks forward. Early morning rides, what like on a buggy and on a donkey? What are we talking about? I don't know. I don't know. I'm just, what year was this? 1907, he wrote this book. Germany was the first to adopt the system in 1916 for wartime action. There's the problem. But it was for wartime energy conservation. So yeah. So that's probably that was probably the idea behind it, right? We were in World War II. So we need to conserve energy. So we would be awake more during the daylight hours. I don't know. I don't know. Listen, I think it's well past the time we do away with this ridiculousness. But that's just me and because I'm tired right now and grumpy. But a couple of weeks from now, I'll be on daylight savings time and my clock will be reset.
So hold on. Benjamin Franklin published the proverb early to bed and early to rise, makes a man healthy, wealthy, and wise. Yes. That's okay. Yeah. What, I mean, I do that anyway. It's just I'm rising an hour earlier than I would have been. I'm now getting up at what would be 5 a.m. when it was 6 a.m. You know what I mean? Yeah. So despite common misconception, Franklin did not actually propose daylight savings time. So I was wrong there. So you're spreading those misconceptions. You're I think that was in the movie National Treasure. I think that's where I got that from. Or really with Nicholas K. With the cage. Yeah. The Luminati. Yeah. I think they talked about that because when they were at the in Philadelphia, the Liberty Bell, the time of day on the money. Oh, yeah. They had to match the sunlight and the daylight savings time is why it was still they thought they had a way to tomorrow. But, you know, now, what's with the whole eye on the pyramid thing? I just I don't know. I don't know. And there's so many things I don't get.
That was a crazy movie, by the way. Speaking of crazy, we are. So what will we have? We'll have recap the lighting game tomorrow. Obviously the world baseball classic is still going on. Your boy, Jose Caminero is still ripping the baseball USA was all over Mexico. I don't know if they finished that game or not. It's a five three in the top of the ninth as we're right. Oh, five three has a runner on. So the tying run is at the plate. Okay. I'm loving it. I'm loving the reaction, the enthusiasm, all of that. And of course, Camino's just been a stud in this thing. I think you may bring some reindeer Rosa rain, rain of like energy to the start of this season coming up here. Let's hope. Yeah. He's a home sweet dome. Home sweet dome. He's a spark plug, man. I hope you can get it over the. Yeah. The short porch and left. By the way, it's five weeks from the day we're recording this. So minus one day opening day. Home opener at the top. Yeah. I won't be there because I hear that the prices are outrageous. You heard this? I don't think it's
sold out yet. I think they're still a few. They said it's close to sell out. That's what Topkin wrote in. Somebody told me today that, yeah, at least for the home opener, they're not cheap. They're very expensive. I'm in a supply and demand. I get it. But no one's been back in the shop for some time. So that that's unto itself a whole experience, right? Or refurbished shop. So happy sweet home sweet dome. Home sweet dome, baby. Yeah. So get on down to Brighton Lee Boutique International Plasma. I'll check out the NFL watches. While supplies last 32 team watches.
