0:00I'm April Cummings with your latest news. A 31-year-old woman is facing murder charges in connection with Friday night's fatal stabbing. The Royal Cayman Islands Police Service says the suspect has been formally charged with murder and possession of an offensive weapon. She's accused of stabbing 26-year-old Tyron Burrell on prospect drive in Georgetown around 9.30 pm. He was later pronounced dead at the hospital. This is Cayman's third homicide of the year. Cayman Airways has canceled today's flight, KX-793, from New York to Grand Cayman after an aircraft was damaged at JFK. The airline says a tow truck operated by its third-party ground handling provider accidentally hit the tow bar during preparations for pushback, damaging a fitting on the aircraft's nose landing gear. The aircraft was taken out of service for inspection and repairs. A passenger on the aircraft tells radio Cayman they heard what sounded like something hitting the plane. They were then advised to deply and their baggage, also taken off the aircraft.

1:01Cayman Airways says a recovery flight is planned for Tuesday with affected passengers to receive updated flight details electronically. It was a whirlwind trip to the UK and Ireland as the premier attended multiple events and Metwist take holders across a wide range of disciplines. Government is going beyond usual business development to advance our countries overall development. The Honorable Andre E. Banks tells Radio Cayman his schedule included two Cayman finance events. Visit to the UK House of Parliament to meet with the Cayman Islands all-party parliamentary group and discussions with the parliamentary undersecretary of state in the foreign Commonwealth and development office. He also traveled to Dublin where he met with Royal College of Physicians' Representatives to solidify an agreement for postgraduate medical training programs between the Royal College and the Cayman Ministry of Health. The exciting partnership with the Royal College of Physicians should assist our medical graduates with attaining clinical experiences that are not readily available in Cayman, which in

2:01turn will help address our people's specific health needs and contribute to the effectiveness of the health care services in both Cayman and Ireland. The delegation attended one of Europe's premier financial services policy events and met the Irish Minister of State at the Department of Agriculture, Food and Fisheries to discuss cost of living pressures, food production and trade. Rounding out the engagement in Ireland, the premier met with ministers from the Channel Islands, as well as representatives of the European Union and Switzerland on topics including financial services and international affairs. Legislative matters dominate Cabinet September 9th meeting. Radio Cayman's Carstley Fuller reports. Cabinet approved the issuance of drafting instructions to amend schedule one of the disaster preparedness and hazard management act. That deals with the organization and composition of the management executive and the management council. They also greenlit the Plant Protection Regulations and the 2023 Acts Commencement Order. The Plant Protection Act is designed to prevent the introduction of plant pests, control

3:02their spread, protect plant resources and facilitate trade and plants and plant products. Cabinet also approved a suite of regulations related to children for onward submission to parliament. These include things like the children's restriction of employment regs, children's homes, regulations and parental responsibility agreement amendment regs. Cabinet also approved the reallocation of funding for the office of the director of public prosecutions. Let's check in with Shamaal Clark at the Cayman Islands National Weather Service for an update on the forecast. We had a very eventful weekend in terms of rainfall. We had the trigger of flood alert on Saturday. We accumulated about 1.5 inches of rainfall per day so that would be Saturday and Sunday.

4:07That is in light of what the forecast is where we do anticipate that we will get some additional rainfall overnight done into tomorrow as well. Being prepared is something we all should do all of the time. It's been dry for a while. So definitely, I noticed that I wasn't as prepared as I thought I should have been any advice for people over the next few days. Sure, yes. This is welcome rainfall and it has been pretty dry so far for the hurricane season. But definitely, persons just need to be updated with information. So make sure you get an information from official sources. That's always going to be my first statement. The other one is because of the type of flooding that we expected very low-collise isolated type scenarios, roads being pretty dangerous during these type of conditions where you have heavy rainfall and there is water settling on the roadways. The advice is for persons to add a couple more minutes to their commute, exercise some caution when they are traversing through areas that actually have water puddles. Again, sometimes it's hard to perceive any danger within those areas.

5:10So just exercise caution and continue to monitor for any of its. Again, we will be close to monitoring how this evolves. We do anticipate that the flood will remain in effect through a Tuesday and will continue to monitor whether or not there will be a need for antennaing it beyond that period. Home Affairs Minister, the honorable Nicholas de Costa, tells Radio Cayman that stable accommodation and coordinated services set a foundation for lasting recovery. 6:14to the construction stage. Phoenix House Secure Care Facility provides a structured and secure environment for women who require intensive support for addiction. A new documentary of phenomenal women honors the life and legacy of late national hero, the honorable Francine Jackson. CIDTV's Travis Webster has more from Thursday's special screening, with comments from West Bay MP Julie Hunter and Miss Francine's daughter Jennifer Dilbert. The documentary features candid interviews with Mrs. Francine and follows her journey as a women's suffragette and her bestowment of the national hero honor. The documentary premiered during a special private screening for Mrs. Francine's family and senior government leaders. Had a not bid for the bravery of Mrs. Francine and her fellow suffrages, women like me would not be able to serve the people of the Cayman Islands as elected officials today. Her courage redefined the Cayman Islands and permanently shattered a glass ceiling that prevented women from seeking higher office in this country.

7:15Mrs. Francine's family thanked the government and the Cayman Islands community for their support and for capturing her story. It did help in our grief. It still helps when this kind of thing happens and you know we hear from people every day of how our mom touched their lives. I mean this is what people just tell me every day wherever I am. So many people knew her, so many people really felt out love for her but she just exuded love all the time so that's what happened. Mrs. Jackson was one of the first women to run for political office in Cayman following the passing of the sex disqualification removal law. In 2013 she received the Cayman Islands gold medal of merit and in 2025 was named a national hero. She was the second hero to receive that honor during her lifetime. She passed away on July 5th.
