It's going to be the Nick's taking on the 76ers. Jalen Brunson, he's not afraid of the Philadelphia 76ers.

Jalen Brunson knows that the Nick's have targets on their backs. And seeing teams load up during the off season has already brought back that competitive hunger. According to Brunson, exactly the motivation wouldn't be the first word I'd use. You see teams loading up. You see the schedule getting released. You are getting closer to the season. Yeah, it's all good to be on the break. But then you get that hunger back. And I am ready. I am definitely ready for another challenge. And the 76ers definitely going to be a challenge. 100%. Not only did Jalen Brunson send the message to the 76ers, he also sent this following message to the Nick's roster.

2:11According to Brunson, we have all of these people telling us how great we are. We just, you know, we won in New York. And everyone in New York is up on their high horse. Everyone is saying the best things about us, even though middle of the year, they were probably saying the worst as well. When we were two and nine, so it was definitely like a roller coaster of a ride. But it's important for us to come into the season and be like, all right, that's over with, right? We don't want to speak of the trophy. We don't want to talk about the trophy. We don't want to see the trophy, right? We want to come in with the same mindset. If not an even tougher mindset, then we had last year. Brunson continues by stating, I'm ready to turn the page. We're getting to that point. And we're saying the right things. But now it's time.

3:11Once we get there, can we do the right things? It's all about our actions, but it ain't going to be easy. It 100% ain't going to be easy. Brunson's message was simple, but extremely powerful. Block out all the noise. Don't listen to anybody because sometimes it's good, sometimes it's bad. But the nicks need to block that all out. They have to forget about the championship. Forget they won the championship. Not even think about it. For this upcoming season, they need to refocus and understand what's important. The past, it's not important anymore. The future, their future goals, what they want to do this upcoming season. That's important. They want to win another championship. That means they need to have the right mindset going into next season. And according to Jalen Brunson, they already have that mindset.

4:11They're saying the right things. But now it's time to do the right things. While some players are getting ready for this upcoming season, other players, they're just hoping they have a team when the season starts. Dylan Jones, he's one of those players. The New York nicks find themselves in an unusual position heading into training camp with all three of its rosters two way spots still available. Dylan Jones, who occupied one of those spots last season, did little during summer league to strengthen his case for a return. However, the 24 year old received another opportunity to impress after earning a call up to USA basketball's latest roster. Unfortunately for Jones, the opportunity did little to demonstrate why the nicks should bring him back on another two way contract for the upcoming season.

5:16Based on its play in summer league and the World Cup games, it looks like Dylan Jones will lose his opportunity with the nicks. According to the heavy.com, it's difficult for any player to prove their worth across just eight minutes of basketball, but the limited opportunity could hardly have come at a worst time for Jones, whose NBA future remains uncertain. He returned to the nicks for the 2026 summer league within a parent opportunity to compete for another two way contract. However, an underwhelming run in Las Vegas left his immediate future with the organization increasingly unclear across 18 appearances in the G league. Jones averaged 15.1 points, 5.5 rebounds, 6.1 assists, and 1.7 steals while shooting 43% from the field and an impressive 38.1% from 3. range on 5.8 attempts per game.

6:22Those numbers demonstrate that Jones has already shown he can produce consistently at the G league level. The bigger question is whether he has done enough since then to convince New York that he deserves another opportunity within its developmental pipeline. Let's not forget, Dylan Jones was an important piece for Mike Brown during the NBA finals run. He went to him a number of times for advice and that advice paid off, and maybe that's enough to earn him a two way contract with the nicks. However, we have to talk about the abundance of guards the nicks already have. So adding another guard to the team, even on a two way contract, it really doesn't make sense. What the nicks need more than anything else is more size on this team, especially if injuries pile up during the season, they're going to need that size on the team. Dylan Jones at 6 foot 4, he's really not going to provide that for New York.

7:25They need additional size. What they need is more forwards and centers on this team. And if they can sign those players to two way contracts, the nicks are going to do that. It's unfortunate for Dylan Jones, but during summer league, the World Cup games, he really hasn't had that impact that a lot of us have been hoping for. And because of that, it's very unlikely that he has a future with the nicks, even on a two way contract. New York needs to make moves that help improve this roster and make them even better for this upcoming season. Dylan Jones, he might have the knowledge, but he doesn't have the play right now. And maybe it's not worth it to give him a two way contract. Maybe instead, it's better off if the nicks give those contract the players that can actually do something during the course of the season that actually have size that maybe could play the center role or the backup power forward role, depending on injuries with this team.

8:30Leon Rose is definitely thinking about that. New York has three two way spots open, even as we speak right now. And Dylan Jones, he still hasn't been signed. Now, why is that? My guess is that the nicks know it's time to move on from him and add more size to this team. And if that's the case, Dylan Jones opportunity and future with the nicks, just like that, it's gone. 9:32The only thing that can stop the nicks from going back to back is really health and depending on the injuries that they face during the season. But that's even more of a reason why Dylan Jones likely won't get a roster spot, not even a two way contract. Because if there are injuries, what are the nicks likely going to need? More size and versatility on this team. And how do the nicks get that? Well, maybe they find that in the 14th roster player that they have on this team who they've yet to sign yet, but also they'll likely get that via their two way players. And those two way players remember can still play some of the regular season, even though they're on two way deals. And the nicks are hoping for that, especially if they're injuries. That's why they need to sign players with size players that can contribute right away and ready to make an impact. The nicks are currently looking for those players.

10:32And in my guess, my best estimate, they're going to find those players along with filling in that 14th roster spot, come training camp. They likely wanted to do it via trade, but nobody wants to trade with the nicks right now. Nobody wants to make the reigning defending NBA champions better. That's why the nicks are going to have to look at different options to fill in these roster spots. And if I know Leon Rose, that's what he's trying to do right now. It's only a matter of time before the silence breaks, those announcements are made, and we have a better understanding on who's going to be part of this nicks team for this upcoming season.
