What you're listening to presumably doesn't suck, so neither should your sound system. Sonos lets you listen seamlessly from room to room. Same great sound, expertly tuned, astonishingly clear. It's not magic, but it's not not magic. Local people, local stories. This is the All Local from 1010 Wins. I'm Larry Mullins and here are today's top local stories. A terrible incident played out on a Northbound J train last night. A man no doubt headed home from somewhere to his family stabbed a death after an altercation with a younger man. Witnesses telling police it started with an argument on the train and then it spilled onto the platform where the older guy was stabbed over and over and over. And tonight police think the suspect might have been, well, I'd have had a mental issue. Mata Alexander with the story tonight. He's facing criminal possession of a weapon and murder charges. Which I relt Thomas that is the man accused of stabbing Messias Lohano to death. Thomas is 25, the victim 59.
The two were arguing on a J train Wednesday evening, spilling onto the platform. Thomas then pulled out a kitchen knife, stabbed Lohano and ran away. Writer's pointed him out to police and they chased him onto the roof of a garage, later arresting him. He's at Jamaica Hospital for a psyche valuation. Police described him as emotionally disturbed. Amanda Alexander 1010 wins on 92 3 FM. In other news, the NYPD on the hunt for three suspects wanted for a home invasion robbery in East Harlem last week. This happened at 3 30 in the morning at an apartment building at Lex and East 110th Street. Police said the whole family was home. Six people including two children all inside when the trio of suspects forcibly entered the apartment pulled out a gun and struck two of the adults in the face. From there, cops say the crew took about $925 from the apartment before running off. Nobody seriously hurt. The investigation is ongoing. New security measures tonight being put in place across the South Bronx where small businesses say they're struggling with high crime. The hub is also known as the 3rd Avenue Business Improvement District here in the Bronx.
New stores are opening almost every month. But in recent years, some say it's been overlooked due to drug activity and crime. Now the 3rd Avenue bid is investing to make serious safety changes. Pedro Suarez is the executive director to make sure that this commercial corridor in the South Bronx continues to be recognized as the important historic and economic center. Bronxboro President Vanessa Gibson says public safety ambassadors are going to play a big role in helping people feel safer. Carrie Lynn Buckley, Tenton wins on 92 3 FM in the South Bronx. Some city officials pushing back now on the Trump administration's plans to overhaul the 2030 census. The US Census Bureau proposing to exclude non-citizens and non-permanent residents and bar any questions about race or ethnicity. You might ask yourself, what's the big deal about changing up some of the questions? Well, council speaker Julie Menon breaking it down. Not only does it affect the number of seats that we hold in the US House of Representatives,
it determines how much federal funding we obtain to operate our hospitals to build a fort of a housing and to supply essential programs like SNAP and Head Start. She's joining Attorney General Chis James in submitting public comments advocating against the proposed changes and they're encouraging New Yorkers to do the same. The public comment period is open until October 13. Now when we talk about building affordable housing in the city, not every neighborhood is thrilled about it. In fact, some push back for any number of reasons. Now the city's out with the list of a dozen areas which have seen the lowest rate of new affordable housing over the past five years and guess what? New units are coming whether they want it or not. The housing crisis is a symptom of the affordability crisis and to solve it, Mayor Mumbani says all corners of the city need to step up. We have to expedite the amount of housing we're building, the speed at which we're building it and we have to interrogate every single rule and regulation that we have in city government to ensure that there is an actual purpose for it. Voters approve the mayor's idea to get rid of the city council in the review process
for affordable housing projects in neighborhoods where it hasn't been built. Some council members aren't happy about that. The mayor says he's still looking forward to working with them. We have seen council members who have even put forward their own ideas for what it could look like in their neighborhood. Macros in Burke 1010 wins on 92 three. FM. A Bay Shore man facing up to 18 years in the slammer after pleading guilty to manslaughter and other charges as we're stealing a car while drunk and then fatally striking up a deserter. Prosecutors say 23 year old Alexander Serda broke into somebody's house last year, stalled an unlocked SUV from the driveway and then drove off while intoxicated. He say about 10 minutes later he was allegedly speeding with the headlights off when he struck 52 year old Eric Petta as who died after seeing a short time later. He said I ended up driving off but he was arrested a few days later. He is due back in court in January where he's expected to be sentenced six to 18 years behind bars. Well, it's football season but apparently not on Long Island. A number of school districts have had to cancel the remainder of their varsity football
season. I was obviously very upset when I found out that the season was going to be canceled. 16 year old senior Austin Weiss is one of the injured players from Jericho High School's superintendent Robert Kravitz said he had to make the difficult decision to cancel the season. Although they already started playing games. We lost two senior players to injuries. We felt in the best interest of safety of our students, not to play our freshman against some of the other teams. The athletic director, Frank Corden Bloom says they hoped to be back strong next year even if they have to partner up with another district. It's a Nassau County. It's definitely out there that football numbers have been kind of decreasing. I think it's an ongoing situation. Sophie Ahol, 1010 wins, a 92 3 FM in Nassau County, Long Island. As our news continues on 1010 wins now, if you haven't already booked your holiday travel tickets, you'd better get the step in. I mean, like right now, travel site, Hoppers is prices for playing tickets or reaching 10 year highs. And you should jump on your airfare ASAP. Hopefully before Halloween, the site says the average round trip domestic airfare around
Christmas is already 450 bucks. A 23% increase from last year, Hoppers says travelers have fewer flight options during the holiday season and that's driving prices even higher. The Gordier Airport just earns some bragging rights. His Chase Sapphire lounge has been named the world's best independent airport lounge by Skytracts. It beat out lounges in places like Rome, Hong Kong, London, based on traveler votes. The Chase Lounge in Terminal B spread across two floors at over 20,000 square feet. On top of all the fancy food and drinks, there's also a children's playroom. They have a photo booth, a retro arcade. Not to mention the relaxation spaces and facial treatment rooms. I know they had that. Makes my little VIP thing at the Atmos Club. It's not LaGuardia. It's not just LaGuardia, I should say. JFK's Capital One Lounge was ranked fifth, as American Express and Cheering in Lounge came in at six.
