Chinese are extremely sensitive about these nuances and diplomacy. They've been added for four thousand years. The Chinese, when they get upset, can do things like take over an island here or there or tear up an agreement or start threatening or do other things that could cause a crisis. So that's interesting. That's Charles Krauthammer, the late Charles Krauthammer who we were big fans of back in the late 2016, when I suppose who was Trump collected in 16. So was that the end of Obama's anyway?

4:09Chinese care about these little tiny snubs and that sort of stuff. So you have to be very, very careful with the diplomacy and the show them up at the airport like Trump did last night in the red carpet and having the right fork in the right place and all that sort of stuff, I guess. Whatever. Get over yourselves. This is what I would say. So President Xi is in Washington, DC and they're having their big dinner tonight and let's get a report from Lucas Thomelson of Fox with what's going on. The relationship between the United States and China will define the 21st century. Not everyone is thrilled about Chinese President Xi Jinping's visit to the White House. The report surfaced that China was supplying satellite imagery to help Iran kill American troops in recent months. Among the critics, the Senate Armed Services Committee's top Republican. I would have suggested the President not invite Xi Jinping to Washington for such a lavish welcome. Secretary Rubio reacting to that suggestion today.

5:11This is the second largest economy in the world and a pretty substantial military that's undergoing the most rapid military buildup probably in history. So I thought that interesting back and forth over the last couple of days was worth noting. I mean, the chair of the Armed Services Committee is not a nobody and him thinking is about I need to have Xi come. Now I saw a, who's that Democratic Senator who pretended he was a Vietnam war hero and turned out not to be Blooming Thought. I can't believe that he still gets to be a Senator and discuss military matters. Is a guy who claimed to be a big time Vietnam war vet with all these honors and everything I got and he didn't go at all. It's just, she doesn't say the way politics are. Anyway, I couldn't tell if Blooming Thought if this was just partisan, anything Trump does is wrong. Or if he actually thought we shouldn't invite President Xi. I don't know and I don't actually know what is the right answer on this. It is pretty weird. President Xi is financing Iran.

6:13We're at war with Iran. President Xi is daily attacking us. We've talked about this for years. The FBI opens up what like a hundred new investigations into Chinese hacks per day or something like that. And we get together and have dinner and smile at each other and act like friends. I don't know what the point of all that is. Anyway, the report rolls on talks on trade and artificial intelligence are expected to dominate the summit in Washington. The leader's first meeting since Xi hosted Trump in Beijing in May. President Trump mentioned China only one time in his UN address, vowing the U.S. must win the AI race. I'm not going to stifle growth of something that will be bigger than the industrial revolution and we will be very careful. After Trump called on Putin to end his war on Ukraine at the UN, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky thinks Xi can help make that happen. He's someone who can influence Russia too. More than many others can. Yeah, I'm not optimistic about that either.

7:14I'm really stuck on this whole UN speeches, fancy meals is really close to worthless. The amount of coverage it gets as a ratio to how important it is is way out of, I mean, every television bank I'm looking at right now has got some picture of Trump and Xi and coming on the plane and talking about the speeches from yesterday. And I just, I just don't think it means anything. Maybe I'm naive, but show me the results of previous stuff a week from now. Tell me what from these speeches at the UN or this meal will be talking about as a, as a still ongoing result of this anything at all. I'm beyond skeptical. I want to hear how CBS approached this. Give me 44, this is Nancy Cortes. The US and China are at odds over AI, trade and most importantly Iran. Trump, stop fawning over strong men.

8:14Stop calling Xi a great gentleman. Lawmakers from both sides urged Trump to dial back the warm welcome. His guest is a brutal, unelected and oppressive dictator. Okay, so that from Schumer. Now that was just partisan politics. Barack Obama welcomed President Xi also and at that time we, we already knew President Xi was an evil communist dictator who had slaves and was hacking into everything. He could hack it and steal it or technology and all the bad things he was doing back then and he welcomed it. So let's, God, I wish we didn't have to play these partisan games all the time. Having a little more concrete, Scott Besent, he is the secretary of the Treasury was interviewed yesterday. He's talking about how many meetings they might have. This is our second in person meeting. There's a chance they may have a historic four meetings this year, four meetings between the most powerful country in the world and the second largest economy in the world.

9:18And in Beijing, this visit, a visit to Xinjiang for a conference in November and then President Xi coming for the G20 in Dural. By the way, that G20 meeting in Florida, Trump invited Vladimir Putin to that. Now that one I definitely don't think is cool that you have Putin come to the United States and dinner with you and treated like an equal on the world stage, like a, like any sort of normal actor on the world stage, that is just completely out of bounds. I don't know if Trump just invited him knowing he won't come or the security would not allow it to come or for all the different reasons that it shouldn't happen. It won't happen. And so he just invited him for, I don't know, the way Trump works people. But the idea of Vladimir Putin having dinner at the golf club in Florida while he's bombing children's hospitals in Ukraine, it's just appalling.

10:21Anyway, this is the news nation take on the whole AI angle on the summit between Trump and Xi today. Say the AI race is one of their top priorities for this US-China relationship. Do you think this should be a focus headed into today just taking that into consideration? Whether or not it should be a focus, it simply is a focus. You know, the Americans may not associate it directly with the China relationship, but of course, it affects all of our lives. You know, I have a colleague who likes to say it's a like electricity. You don't think about it, but it's part of absolutely everything. So of course, it's going into this summit, it's going into our daily lives. Yeah, I, again, I'm not optimistic that China has entry any interest in playing ball in this whole AI thing. How is going to throw out a question to those you? I got two questions. So, um, Executive Producer Hanson came up with a good idea today. We need an AI Tim Beleuer. If you've been fans of this show for years, we used to talk about legal stuff and this guy named Tim,

11:25who happened to be a lawyer would call into the show and say, hey, good point about this or you're wrong about this or here's something you might want to know about this thing you were talking about. And over time, Tim became a regular guest in the, you know, he's obviously successful in rights books that get national attention and all that sort of stuff, but we'd love to have an AI Tim the lawyer. We know because we're on in Silicon Valley, we've been on in San Francisco for 23 years now. Wow. Um, and all over the Bay Area, all over California, around the country. If you are some sort of expert around AI and you would like to either email us or call in on a regular basis or we could just have you as a guest whenever we need to, that would be fantastic. And here's one of the questions I would ask. People keep portraying this race that we've got going on between us and China. Well, we've got that we can't slow down on AI or China will win the race. Though they'll, they'll get ahead of us. I've heard multiple reports that China is basically

12:28six months behind us. Does that framework work? Does that make any sense? Is there a getting to the end like getting there that will give us an advantage of any consequence over China? If they get there, whatever there means, if they get there six months later, I'm thinking of the whole nuclear race. Now it was important for us, getting nuclear weapons before Hitler did. Very, very important for obvious reasons to end World War II or before Japan wasn't really working on a nuclear weapon or anywhere close. But Germany was and the Soviet Union got one quickly, but well, I guess that's part of my point. So we get there to to AGI artificial general intelligence where computers are programming themselves and everything like that. If China gets there six months later, have we done anything? One anything? Is that part of the whole conversation as important as it's portrayed all the time? We need to stay ahead of China.

13:30Or what happens would be the question I'd ask to whatever AI expert we have out there. Either you can text us 415295KFTC or email or you know, we'll set up a phone call. A couple of years ago, I had reason to do a little research on somebody and I had their phone number and I thought, I wonder what I can find out about somebody based on their phone number. You've got all the information that you can get from a phone number that I mentioned. It's all out there. They're data brokers. They sell this stuff. Heather Myers is nice enough to fill in for Katie Green for a couple of days while Katie is doing her anniversary tip. A trip Heather is a long time TV host and a correspondent for Newsmax right now and was the story you covered the other day that caught my attention.

20:44This caught my attention to Jack because I have high school age son, I believe you do too. So for decades, you know, young Americans have been told that that four year college degree is the immediate ticket to a good job. But there's brand new data coming out about our labor market that shows that those with a recent college degree, so a recent college grad, I'm talking between the ages of 22 and 26 are having one of the toughest times ever finding a job at the same time, those without a bachelor's degree and maybe with just a high school diploma or partial college education are having one of the best job markets that they've experienced in the past 20 years. I knew this was coming. Whenever I would talk about the fact like I'm not pushing my kids to go to college, I have one that probably won't, one that probably will, but I'm definitely not pushing it. And whenever I have mentioned that, people said to me, well, you know, statistically over time, people who graduate college make this much more that has been true always. I don't believe it's going to be true anymore.

21:46I knew at some time that at some point the data would catch up to that. And I'm sure that's, you know, roughly starting now and going forward. There's all kinds of reasons for that. I've got a thing from a college professor. I'm going to read a little bit later in the show him talking about current students who know nothing, learn nothing, come out of college, no more qualified than when they went in only poorer. And then you've got the whole thing. If I bring on a college graduate, what crazy crap do they believe about the employer employee relationship? And, you know, soon me for this and that and all, yeah, who wants that? Right. And so this is interesting because the study touched on exactly what you just mentioned. If you want the other reasons that why we're seeing this trend is that AI has largely taken over entry level white collar jobs. So those recent college grads are coming out and usually you'd start at the bottom of the ladder job. Those are now being done by AI for a lot of these companies. Those weren't jobs you needed a college degree for anyway. They're hiring college graduates to do,

22:48college graduates are doing them because it was all they could find, but that's not, no, that's not what got them the job. Right. Another reason, simple supply and demand. So older workers in skill trades are starting to retire. So that's creating demand for people who can do jobs that require hands-on skills. I'm talking about your air conditioning repair person, your plumber, your electrician, those trade jobs are still, you know, they need to fill a lot of spots in those. There was something else here. Let's, oh, okay. So, you know, when you're talking about something in front of your phone and then sooner than later, you get a video about this exact topic. Right. We were discussing this just the other day, yeah. Yeah. So I'm talking about this subject matter with my husband and all the sudden I get this video for a company called Degree Free. And basically what this woman and I believe her husband have done is they have figured out how to reverse engineer your way into the career that you want to go into without getting a college degree. So I interviewed her for the same story and she basically said that

23:49the most important thing that employers are looking for is no longer a bachelor's degree. It's work experience. So if you don't have any work experience and it could be something as like being a high school, a waiter or a waitress at a restaurant or a life guard, any of those kinds of jobs, employers want that more than anything else right now. That doesn't surprise me a bit. It's very easy for a lot of young people now to, and part of it is we've crafted a society where it's very hard to get a job as a teenager now. There's all kinds of things that I did that you can now allow to do anymore. Anyway, she could graduate from college with a worthless degree. You're out there, you're 22, 23 years old. You've never worked a day in your life. You've never had a boss. You've never had it been given a task that you had to perform or anything ever. Yeah, there's a big difference between that person and you hire someone who's had a couple of jobs and who cares about the degree because we all know in most cases, they're worthless. Yeah. So that was her point. She said

24:52that for a lot of these employers, these recent college grads are coming in with zero work experience and then asking for a salary similar to what the owner of the company is bringing home every week. And it's not the kids fall. I don't want to make it sound like that. It's horrible that we sold this line of crap to college kids and parents about this for years. All these different kind of gender studied degrees and everything like that that aren't going to do anything for you. Oh, that's a whole more expensive piece of paper and they have all this debt and then they have to go back and get the waiter waitress and job or that entry-level job that they could have gotten at 18. 30:18Recently that you've been taking some flak for creaming your coffee buddy but I want you to know I want you to know Jerry farmers nationwide 110% behind a little teaspoon or two that use every day. But we're just having this conversation about for the first time ever the job market is a better for young people with a high school degree than with a college degree for a variety of reasons including the whole everybody's caught onto the fact that a lot of these college degrees you didn't learn a single thing. And maybe what you learned was to be in a pain in the ass employee who's going to sue me over something crazy. But anyway over the years I've given you we've made a lot of fun of you going to Harvard which I'm actually very impressed with because you went to Harvard back in the day when when that meant something. But do you have any

31:18opinions on this? What college is worth now versus the old days? Like for instance you're Alma Mater Harvard up until recently when they tried to change this the whole how many A's they gave out thing that got so much attention. If you include a minus 84% of the grades given out at Harvard were A's, A's are A minus 84%. I mean that's insane. Well you know given the fact that I got all these when I got out of there you know this does probably speak well just joking. Here's the thing Jack it's funny you're having this conversation today literally Jack two days ago they had an online conversation with Harvard's president who I know I've sat through the entire hour this Zoom call whatever just the CWD had to say about of course he got with federal lawsuits and all but great inflation believe it or not was the first topic he addressed. Now I want to say one caveat I wanted to one of the Harvard professional schools the Kennedy School got my master's degree there so I can't speak to Harvard colleges they call the undergrad but more broadly more broadly what's really interesting is that places super expensive

32:24like Harvard people are talking about regularly now Jack going to three year college degrees rather than four. Partically just because of what you said the return on investment the cost of going to any college these days versus the return and you know it's somewhat sad to say for people who you know are behind the humanities and Phi Beta Kappa and all these sort of Renaissance man approach but to your point Jack vocationally focused education seems to be the wave of the future as opposed to more general ed you know the kinds of things people thought was important in the past in terms of having a so-called well-rounded education. Well you know you're a parent like me the goal for your kids is for them to be able to support themselves. I'd love them to be well-rounded but the real goal is for them to be able to get out in the world and support themselves. Well you know there is all that the vocational ed part of it is really interesting because even in California there's now been all of a sudden for the first time the ability for our junior colleges

33:28over a hundred of them in California and for folks who aren't familiar that's the two year college system to actually grant bachelor's degrees themselves for the first time. Not just UC and CSUs that the important thing here Jack is these bachelor degrees are very vocationally focused many of them very technical or in medical fields etc where the perception is jobs are plentiful. Well with an actual skill so many of these degrees what the hell would you do with that? It's so nuts anyway. We're here to talk politics with you which kind of fits in with this because a lot of your college crowd is behind this big socialist movement we got going on right now what they call the downwardly mobile. These are people that spend a lot of money to get a degree or going out in the world and can't make a living and their their thought isn't well that degree is pointless. There's no job market for people. It's got to be capitalism. It's got to be the system. It's got to be the patriarchy. It's got to be white people. It's got to be something and so they're leaning toward the socialist and this pull that came out that rocked the LA mayor race in which the DSA politician is now in

34:34the lead tell us that story.
