About this episode
“Rubric is the security and AI operations company. Built for what happens after an attack hits, not just the moments before. AI has turned the threat landscape into quicksand, moving too fast for any human to fully predict.”From the transcript
More than 90 episodes ago, this podcast started with a question about the Ship of Theseus: if you replace the pieces of something over time, is it still the same thing?
Now that question feels more relevant than ever.
In this first episode of G.R.O.W.T.H. Point, Ranger looks back at the journey from The Never Peak Project to where the show is today, from preparing to walk across America, to finishing the walk, building Within Range Coaching, and watching the podcast evolve alongside him.
This isn’t about abandoning what came before. It’s about recognizing when something has grown into its next version.
Never Peak asked: How do I keep going? G.R.O.W.T.H. Point asks: What am I growing toward?
Welcome to the next chapter. Let’s see what we can grow.

Rubric is the security and AI operations company. Built for what happens after an attack hits, not just the moments before. AI has turned the threat landscape into quicksand, moving too fast for any human to fully predict. That's why an agentic cyber resilience platform matters. Automated recovery, clean data, a business that keeps moving, no matter what hits. One platform, not a patchwork of stitched together tools and gaps. Don't wait for the next attack. Secure and accelerate your business at rubric.com. Again, rubric.com. More than 90 episodes ago and about two and a half, three years, I started this podcast by talking about a ship. Specifically, it was the ship of theses. Now, the short story is pretty simple.
If you have a wooden ship, an overtime replace one piece, then another, then another, and another until eventually every original piece has been replaced. Is it still the same ship? And I took it one step further. What if you changed the name? At what point is that original ship something different? And I had really no idea that when I recorded that episode a few years ago, looking back at it now, that I'd be asking the same exact question about this podcast. When this show started, I was on the precipice of starting my walk across America. I was coaching. I had just started my business. And I was really trying to figure out what within range coaching stood for, what it was going to be, be eventually, and frankly, what I was going to be, who I was going to be. And that first season followed a lot of that journey.
I walked from South Carolina to California. I talked to businesses, nonprofits, ag organizations, interesting people. I met across the country and I documented the walk itself. Five and a half months later, I finished walking. So season two started with a pretty obvious question. I walked across America. Now what? Well, over that next season, the pieces of the ship started to change. I talked a lot more about personal development, about coaching, business leadership, purpose, mindset, and a little bit of agriculture thrown in. And the things that I was learning as a coach, as an advisor, as a small business owner, what I was learning from clients and things that I was still learning from, the walk, things that I was still piecing together, months and now a couple of years later. But so more along the way, I realized that the podcast had already become something different. In that first episode, I said that sometimes we get so focused on keeping something the way it was,
that we stopped seeing what it could be. And apparently, I think it's a time that about time that I take my own advice. So welcome to season three. If you've been here from the beginning, you've known it as the within range coaching podcast. You've known it as the never peak project. Well, welcome ladies and gentlemen to the growth point podcast. Now, this isn't me just throwing away the never peak project. It's a continuation of it. It's a different version. Never peak was about continuing forward, believing that where you are today is not the highest point you will ever reach. Now, I still very much believe that I believe that behind every mountain is another mountain. And I've learned that growth isn't always another peak. Sometimes it's planting others, it's pruning.
Sometimes it's changing direction or sometimes it's going through a season where it looks like absolutely nothing is happening. And sometimes it's realizing you don't even want what you used to want, but you used to be chasing. The within range coaching podcasts asked, are there good people out there? The never peak project asks, how do I keep going? But the question that growth point asks is what am I growing towards? This is going to be a professional and personal development show with an emphasis on agriculture and the growth framework. This is mostly geared towards high achievers, your managers, your sea suite and your entrepreneurs and business leaders. We're going to talk about leadership, communication, purpose, mindset, careers, business relationships and the lessons. The farm can teach us about becoming better at what we do and more intentional about who we are becoming.
Now most of the time it'll be just be you and me working through an idea together every once in a while. I'll bring somebody else in when they have something worth adding. And in the next episode, I'm going to be really bringing down the growth framework and show you how I use it. And my coaching and my consulting and everywhere in between. At the end of that very first episode, I said something else that feels much more appropriate today. Is that you don't have to sit in the harbor building that boat waiting to sail. You can build the ship as it's on the water. And of course, to reflect that. And I think the important parts of the ship really are still here. We're just getting a little bit more clear about where we're sailing. So whether you've listened since episode one or this is your very first episode, welcome. I'm coach Ranger. This is the growth point podcast. What are you growing toward?
