And today we're talking with one of the Democrats running for the Arizona House. Jacob Weinberg is a longtime Army vet, a CPA and business executive. His campaign says his priorities include education, affordability, responsible development, water security, public safety and vets.
Take it Weinberg. Welcome to the conservative circus. You're a Democrat running in a district with a lot of center right and Republican voters. Give my list and there's your best argument. Why should someone who fundamentally disagrees with your party give you their vote? Well, thanks for having me on James. I appreciate the time this morning. I think that I'm the best candidate. Spent 22 years in the United States Army working with people from all walks of life, no matter where they came from to accomplish the mission. And same of spent 15 years as a CPA working to audit financial companies Wall Street and Fortune 500 companies making sure that I protect the public, the people. So I'm not in this for ideological reasons. I want to protect my community. I was a sophomore at U of A when 9-11 happened.
I saw that my country needed me so I volunteered to serve. When I got out, when I got out the back of duty, I got my CPA license, became a financial statement auditor, 15 years protecting people from financial fraud. The work in Gilbert for the past seven years got to know the community saw a real lack of leadership and desire to take care of the community and those that we elected. So the soldier in me, the servant leader with that all that experience in U.S. Army said I need to step in to make sure the people of L.D. 13 are truly taken care of. Now Jacob, you've been very critical of Arizona School voucher ESA program. Are you opposed to the program itself? Or are you saying you would keep school choice but change the accountability requirement? I said the latter there James, accountability requirement. So every single dollar that goes into our public schools is scrutinized, is audited, looked at and we make sure that it's going, we know where it's going.
On the ESA side, we don't know where that money is going and there's no accountability to ensure that the next generation is learning. I would require kids to take the same test, undergo the same test as public schools go, tracing the money to prove that it's actually going to education, not lingerie, diamond rings, wedding presents for friends like these are things that people put in their vouchers that still got approved and my goal is to end the fraud waste and abuse of the program. Where exactly would you draw the line? What should parents still be permitted to purchase or choose under on the ESA? Well, I think that there's, it's kind of a gray area there with some of the things because people have like no legos but I have a friend, her son is on the spectrum and that's how he learns. So legos help him mentally develop some of those skills.
So we can't say that there's a specific but there are a lot of things that are just adregions like Amazon gift cards are untraceable. You have to, but you can't say what they were spent on. So we start with the low hanging fruit and then we get into the serious policy issues of this is this, this is this, this is what we should be, should be allowing and shouldn't be allowing and of course I will talk to experts because I'm not an expert on childhood development but I want to take into account what the people want and what the experts are saying. We have Jacob Weinberg in the center ring that he's running for Arizona LD 13. He is a Democrat so I give you a mad credit for coming into the center ring. Child Chandler and Gilbert residents here politicians talk about affordability but government can also make housing more expensive through taxes regulations and restrictions. What specifically would you have the legislature do to bring down the cost of living? Well there's a few things so we have a cost and affordability
crisis. There are things that are there are laws on the books in other states that I want to take and propose here and get through legislature to turn into law. One of them so I'm running as a Democrat but I was an independent for 25 years and I don't care where a good idea comes from as long as it helps the people that I represent the people of LD 13 and the people of Arizona. So I want to take a law from Arkansas that limits big farmers ownership of all of the pharmacies in the state the pharmacy benefit managers and kills their vertical monopoly over the distribution of prescriptions. It's lowered cost in Arkansas 80 percent. Why aren't we doing it here? That's one that's just one idea. Another idea comes from Indiana where they hold healthcare companies accountable for using AI to automatically reject people's claims and Arizona has the highest rate of AI without human intervention or oversight claims that get rejected. Now James you and I we
break our arm and the healthcare company automatically rejects that claim I'm going to get it fixed and I'm going to pay out a pocket because I don't want to have a broken arm for four to six weeks while some lawyers and doctors look at it and review my case for an appeal. So that just drives up the cost for everybody. Jacob I got 30 seconds for you if people want to know more about your campaign where are you really going to find you and once again tell folks why they would want you to represent them. So real quick my website is www.electwimburg.com and that's the same handle on Instagram and Jacob Weinberg for Arizona LD 13 on Facebook. People should want me because I'm the best candidate. I have 22 years experience in the United States Army 15 years as a CPA. I'm also my education my work in the policy room and dual careers have made me uniquely qualified to see all aspects of a problem and create the best solution for the people I
represent. Jacob I want to experience expertise and energy obviously and a little energy to be the best representative for the people. Sorry James. No worries no worries listen I want to tell you how much we appreciate you coming into the center ring to to make your picture of folks I want to to find out more about you you have given them the path. I want to thank you very much. That is Jacob my friends who is running to be your representative. I got to tell you the latest CNN polls have confirmed that in order for Republicans to win all they need to do is vote vote.
