5:04那另外一个人 跟他说话的人是干嘛的呢 something much more boring what is it 你觉得 boring 吗 我是觉得很 glamorous right what is it 投资银行 投资银行 ok we can break this into two parts also so the first part is 投资 投资 second tone first tone that is to invest or investment 对 那么第二个词 大家应该都知道 就是银行 银行 ok so that's bank 对 so this is investing in banks or investment banking what is it 你猜呢 你觉得呢 I think it's probably investment banking 对 投资银行 投资银行 所以我说他们俩很配嘛 yeah the industries are quite different right but complimentary 对啊 就是投资银行的人 可以给电子商务的人投资

6:05所以你可以给什么公司 或者什么人投资 so the investment banker can invest in e-commerce is that what you're saying 是的 ok so just now I mentioned industries they use the word industry too in this dialogue right 对 那这个词呢就叫做行 还说做你们这行的人 好像都很忙 行 so做你们这行的人 people in this industry 对 of yours 是的 ok so the word for industry is 行 行 second tone is that like the行 and in行 一样的字 但这个行其实是行业的意思 so hang yeah that's in the next line right 对 行业 and that is industry 对 那么行或者行业 意思是一样的 但是用法好像稍微有点不一样

7:06so you can say this行 meaning this industry and then you can also say 也可以说每个行业 每个行业 or这个行业 and也行 ok so what did you say about 每个行业 它说其实每个行业 都差不多 电子商务这两年发展也很快 这两年发展也很快 hold on the first part what is he saying here pretty much all industries are the same 对因为这个做电子商务的人 就跟做投资银行的人说 你们这行的人好像都很忙 然后做投资银行的人 就回答说 其实每个行业都差不多 就是大家都很忙 而且你们电子商务 这两年发展也很快 意思就是你们应该也很忙 ok 很搞吧 that is the answer ok so pretty much all industries 都差不多忙 对 they are all pretty busy

8:07是的 and then also in recent years 这两年 it is not these two years but in recent years 对 e-commerce has been 发展也很快 发展也很快 so its development is also very fast 对 so fajian that is the first and third it can mean to develop or it can also mean development 对 ok 反正他们这两个行业都很快 所以大家可以看出来 在这种聚会上面 你一定要互相拍马屁 你们行业很好 占很多钱 they are all praising each other's industries 对 ok but then they start talking about the reality the reality of 发展很快 right 就是快是快 可是竞争也越来越激烈了 ok now to be getting the sentence we have a pattern right 对 quai是快 quai是快 这个结构

9:07形容词是 然后再一个形容词 后面加可视 就是前面你 acknowledge这种试试 这种试试 然后你会有这种试试 然后你会有这种试试 然后你会有这种试试 然后你会有这种试试 然后你会有这种试试 这种 reality 所以你会有一个试试 但是你会有一个试试 对 对 而且这个 什么是什么 后面 都是有一个but ok 你会有一个but 所以说你前面 一部分和后面一部分的句子 肯定是一个好 一个坏 好 好 好 好 好 好 ok it may be pretty but stupid ok but in this case the development may be fast but 竞争也越来越激烈

10:08竞争 所以竞争 that means competition and that's fourth and first 对 所以我们看到越来越 这个句子 所以越来越 对 就是越来越 对 是 激烈 第一生和第四生 激烈 所以我们会认识竞争 and激烈 对 我们常常说在中国 竞争 很激烈 不管是工作 还是上学 对 对 竞争 非常激烈的一个国家 ok 对 这个做头自营行的人说 有竞争才有活力 有竞争才有活力 ok so there is competition 才 there is vitality

11:09对 so the key is what is this 才 doing here 其实这个是 一个结构的一部分 它还有前面的一半 so there is a two part pattern and we are only seeing half of it so what is the full pattern 只有才 只有竞争才有活力 ok so only when there is competition can there be vitality 对 and you can drop that 只有 at the front and it still means the same thing 对可以的 ok 所以这个才 就是这个 only if there is something can there be something else 是的 所以我觉得这个头自营行的人 它的心态很好 它应该是一个 很competitive的人对吧 它说有竞争才有活力 那么活力像这样说的 就是 vitality ok so there is word vitality that is not a word we normally use in everyday conversation they just talking about like being awesome in your industry

12:11其实这里的活力就是说 这样的话 你们这个行业就会 有很多的机会 所以通常你 对 听到 活力和工作用在一起的时候 它的意思就是说 有很多机会 ok ok alright and then the next sentence has a whole bunch of doors in it 对做电子商务的人说 对在我们这个行业里面 大的小的好的坏的 有好几千家公司 so big ones, little ones, good ones, bad ones 对 大的小的好的坏的 都有 ok got it and then 家 is the measure word for公司 对 一家公司 然后在中国 有几千家电子商务公司 ok got it so anyway these guys are hitting it off 对 那通常这种 networking 聚会都可以喝酒对吧

13:12然后呢 你就可以 边喝边聊 So what is this 边 一边喝一边聊 ok so while drinking also chat 对就是你可以在同一个时间做两件事 ok drinking and chatting at the same time and in the final line we have 行 你先请 你先请 Is that like you treat me first you buy my liquor first 当然不是这样很小气 这样才先请 Chinese people would never say you buy the first round 不会 肯定不会 你先请 What does that mean What does this mean 这个请呢 就是请你先走 So you go first after you 对 after you的意思 and they're making for the bar 对 ok 所以这个短语也特别好 就是在一些比较专业的场合

14:14我们可以说你先请 或者什么 老板跟你做一个电梯 然后门开了 你说你先请 Can you just say 你先 也可以 ok Alright listen to the dialogue 我们的时间 你好 今天的聚会太棒了 挺有意思的

16:14就是 networking networking聚会 我觉得 networking这个词 很难翻译到中文 就是它有一个 那种 perfect equivalent 我们认识了中国的谈论 我们认识了中国的谈论 我们认识了关系 对 我们认识了关系聚会 不行 关系这个词 我感觉在中国它 就是我们不会天天说关系关系关系 except for没关系 对 除了没关系 而且 networking 肯定也不能直接翻译成关系 OK So what is networking then? 我们就会说我去认识认识人 说要跟人们一起去 meet some people 对 或者知道你可能也可以说是一个社交聚会 社交 对 社交有那种 socializing networking的意思 社交网站 那是社交 networking website 对 OK
