Hulu Kills Buffy Reboot, Sarah Michelle Gellar Fumes

0:00On April 28th, Hulu just killed the Buffy the Vampire Slayer reboot before it even aired. They had greenlit a pilot with Sarah Michelle Geller back as Buffy and Oscar winner Chloe Zhao running the show. Fans were hyped for this prestige take in the classic 90s series. The streamer passed on it after seeing the pilot, saying it felt too small for such a huge franchise and leaned two kid friendly with not enough. Geller's screen time. They ordered reshoots to fix it, but even those couldn't save the project. Geller's furious pointing fingers at an exec who wasn't a fan of the original and bragged about never finishing it. She had teamed up with Zhao for years to make this happen, seeing it as a slam dunk for one of TV's biggest icons. Zhao shines in indie films like No Mad Land, which snagged best picture and director Oscars and hammed it with its eight nominations. But her big swing, the Marvel flicky turtles, bombed hard with slow pacing and no blockbuster vibe. In the end, the pilot skipped legacy cast reunions, zeroing in on a new slayer and crew, which might have missed what fans crave.
