Chichester Festival Theatre's production of Shadowlands has landed at the Aldwich Theatre for a limited run. Hugh Bonneville stars as C.S. Lewis, the Oxford Scholar, and Narnia author known as Jack, reprising his role from the 2019 original. The story follows Jack's quiet life with his brother warning, upended by a visit from American poet Joy David Mann and her young son. Their letter friendship turns to love, but tragedy strikes with Joy's cancer diagnosis, giving them just three short years together. Audiences and critics alike feel the emotional pull of this classic tale, drawn from William Nicholson's script that first hit TV in 19, 89 before the West End, and a film adaptation. It captures late blooming romance with real heart.

1:01Bonneville nails Jack's warmth and wit, while Maggie Siff gives Joy a fierce edge. Director Rachel Kavanaugh handles the shifts from scholarly banter to deep affection smoothly, backed by Peter McKintosh's clever revolving set full of surprises. This traditional crowd pleases delivers laughs, tears, and timeless appeal, drawing West end fans back to the magic of straightforward storytelling.
