Chip you are just punched me in the chimney. We're gonna do you a minute. That way, sure, this is the show that has my name on it. It's got a tag though. Now here are your hosts. Brock you are and Mike's solve. Cowell! Alright, we'll say thank you again to the 148,000 people who have now subscribed to the Seattle Sports YouTube page. And there are a lot of them watching G-Scott a few minutes ago.
Appreciate that as well. Just given the people what they want. We'll take phone calls with those same people here in 30 minutes. But every Friday at this time, we go back through some of the best things you heard this week. Some of the best interviews you can find at that YouTube page. We call it for you in review. Brock & Salk Present for you in review. Time for a weekly chat with Jeff Passon from ESPN. We've got your o'clock. Good morning, Joel. Let's talk to Coach McDonald. This is for you in review. Brock you by the Seattle Sports YouTube page, where you can find a full version of every interview. Alright, mostly standard guests this week, but all really good ones. And people said some pretty interesting stuff. Obviously, we'll begin with Mike McDonald, who we talked to on Monday and who we'll talk to next Monday. And then the following Friday because it's a Thursday night. I know it's coming up. Oh, geez, I'm sorry about that.
I know I get it. I'm sorry. Here was Mike on Monday when we were asking about holding players accountable for some of those penalties. Yeah, our guys are great. They're grown men. So we're talking about going through on our eyes. How we're going to it's like telling the truth. You tell them with love. You come to you have a common understanding about what we're trying to achieve. And you move forward. That's it's really that simple. I mean, it's not it's just but you can't not do it. You can't not have the commoner stand. You can't just close. You can't just look the other way. I just love that clip, man. I've listened to it a few times this week. We've played it a few times. I love it because I think it's the perfect example of how to handle accountability in the modern age. And the fact that a few days later, the players decided to take it into their own hands and meet on it and talk about it and get it fixed and cleaned up. I think speaks to exactly what Mike was talking about. Yeah, you've got to mention it. But you don't need to denigrate them for it. And I make you just nailed it. Empowerment to be men and own it. I'm not going to be the hammer here.
I'll let you all continue work through this. But we're not going to avoid it. I'm going to tell you there's some stuff wrong in the shed. And then you guys are going to have the tools in the connectivity that you guys have to go work through it. Well done. Daniel Jeremiah on Tuesday. And look, just talking through this Seahawks running game, which has been good, not great. Well, I thought the Chargers did a pretty good job in this game. For them, you know, they got creased on a couple runs. And that was it. You get to Shaheed, the toss where they just, they was beautiful the way they locked that thing up. That was also gosh, it was cut on one of those. Yeah, boss. He had a push to, he had a push to crack on the, on the, it was awesome. I mean, like he just takes the corner with him. He goes gets the safety is a two for one special. And they walk into the end zone. So there's, there are some, some glimpses of it there. I don't think they have the most dynamic backs right now with, I mean, that's why when they put Shaheed back there, it's like, jeez, you should probably do that six or seven times a game, just to get him back there and get some juice.
It was actually in the touchdown where I was a push crack on the, Shaheed touching the touch around by a manual Wilson later. That was a push crack in the red zone. The, the toss crack, he went down and blocked the linebacker. And then JSN got the, the touchdown winning block with his effort and the guard kicked out and he won, like it was just textbook man teaching tape. But that last part is important, right? Like they just don't have the most dynamic backs right now. So you can play this dude off the streets. I don't know. That's a great question. I don't know. You play in this young man that yes, is how long he's going to play. He's been on the injury report all week. He's not particularly effective. Maybe part of the reason he's not been effective. If we're going to get a very, absolute price a little bit of a pass. I mean, this guy's playing with a ribb at you. Absolutely. You know what that does? That slows you down significantly. Absolutely. 100% Brock, a great. But you know, for whatever reason, hasn't been that effective. A.M. has been injured. Yeah. I mean, I mean, where are you going to go? Shaheed, VeeLess Jones to pick up those other curries with a manual.
A manual of the bell cow. Let's get you 15. I don't know. Let's get Shaheed three or four. Let's get VeeLess three or four. I guess I just don't know the difference between VeeLess Jones and what's his name, Robert Henry. I just don't know enough. I couldn't possibly tell you. But would you ever. I trust that guy enough in four days of practice. And this matchup and this intensity and the way those guys did on the set. Well, they wouldn't say that. I don't know how to judge that. But would you ever guy they end up dressing? Cool. Yeah. I mean, I mean, Wilson probably going to get the lion's share, though. Right. I mean, you got to imagine that that's the direction. They'll go on the other side of a DJ talking about the let me go to Peter Schreger. We talked to on Wednesday, because he kind of got into this Brock party Sam Darnold debate we were just having with G. Who do you like better? Party's been better. Objectively. And obviously there's history with the two of them. And obviously Sam's connection with San Francisco. And what happened last year where in those two final games and the regular season in the playoffs, it was just all Seahawks all over the Niners
and they sent them packing. So such rich stuff. But Pertie can't take it away from him. He's probably been the best football player in the sport through four weeks. He's playing in an incredibly efficient way. He runs, he does it all. He leads. He does it silently. He's a server in so many ways. He's everything that Kyle Shannon ever wanted. I always we've talked about on our show big day. And he has been the Niners in the A-block basically four weeks in a row about how dominant they are. But Seahawks win this there in first place. Who's been the better quarterback in the last three and a half years? Brock party Sam Darnold. Right. So obviously Sam backed him up. Sam will tell you that man watching Brock Pertie work. And I remember having these conversations last year. I get it. Sam's bigger. He's stronger. He's got stronger arm. All these things. He watched Brock Pertie play the position like a surgeon. Yeah, I think they're both. They've both played it at a very high level. Which one's played it better? I think it's a debatable conversation. We could go on either side of it. But I think the answer is more stylistic difference
than it is better or worse. Right now over the first couple games of the season. There's no doubt. Trigger's right. Pertie's playing it in the elite. Lowe's playing it out of his head. And Sam has been just okay through his first couple of games. So right now the answer is easy over that span of time. I think it's a great conversation. Good toss up. I don't know what the answer to that is. But they do it differently. So it becomes. Sunday will be a big data point in it though. I'll tell you that. It's hot as Brock is playing and saying I'm trying to get back to that form of the mountain top and showing off his. It's a floor ceiling conversation, right? I mean Brock's floor is so much higher seemingly. It feels that way. Yeah. Right? Whereas Sam's ceiling, I think is higher. Just because of the strength. Because of the arm in the size. Yeah. Yeah. Great cone. Let's finish it off. All right. This was Grant Cone yesterday. We asked him why the Niners were four and oh. Because they're really good. Okay. They're a really good team. They have a really good coach. Brock Pertie's playing the best he's ever played. And they got to play one game in Australia. It's a team that didn't show up. And they played the dolphins. And they played the Cardinals. And they played Bownicks. Who did nothing?
So they're relatively untested as well. Okay. He's good. He was entertaining. The first time we had him on, I was not that convinced. We had him on and kind of like a rap, like a quick wrap around type segment. And he was okay. He was actually a little disappointing after the buildup. But I was great yesterday. Like I was super entertained by him yesterday. Maybe it's because you weren't a part of the interview. I don't know. Maybe. Maybe that might have been that was it. Absolutely. I don't know for whatever reason it worked. So those are just a few of the interviews from this week. You can find all of them up on our YouTube page. The Seattle Sports YouTube page. Go subscribe there. And you can see what all four of those interviews were on video this week. So Shraggs and Daniel Jeremiah and Grant Cone. And obviously Mike McDonald all up on video on our YouTube page. You got a gut feeling 48 hours. So a little more out from this one. Yeah, I do. Yeah, a little good. Yeah. Okay. You. I do. I kind of have this. Have more of a feel for this than. Oh, really?
Then the previous four games. Really? All right. Well, then I feel good. Like the Cogs defense is ultimately the best unit out there. So they win. But it's close and special teams are a couple of big plays end up mattering. But I'll tell you what, my opinion means nothing. Your opinion is an actual, you know, football person. As a person who played the game, bro, who put on the cleats. Maybe I'll be the first caller at 930. Maybe you will be. Maybe I'll tell you what, why don't you answer that question as the as the beginning of need to know next? What are you? What if you have such a great feel? What's going to happen on Sunday? Tell us next on Brock and Soul. Need to know 15 minutes passed every hour with Brock and Salk. Here's what you need to know. A first. All right, Cogs take on the Niners 125 start at Lumen Field on Sunday. Brock says he's got a pretty good feel for it. All right. What's going to happen? It's going to come down to say I'm throwing a touch down or pick in the fourth quarter.
So it's going to come down to. And I'm going to buy into Sam at home. I know Brock Birdie was 4-0. And I'm just looking back at these last four years before that playoff game last year. He's played very well. They've been pretty highly contested games. But honest to goodness, this just feels like it's set up. Is he actually favored by three? I would do that. The line has moved a little bit the over 100 to 45 and a half, 46. So you're kind of looking at a 20, like a 23, 20 kind of game to me. Where like Sam's going to make a play in the fourth quarter. He's going to hang in there like you did with the Minnesota Vikings against Mike McDonald, the NEC ox in 2024 and made a touchdown pass to Jefferson getting hit in the jaw. Like it just kind of feels like one of those games. You know what? It's funny because it seemed like I was taking kind of a negative stance on Sam earlier. I really wasn't trying to just trying to be realistic. I'll take my chances in that spot.
If it's Sam in the fourth quarter, touch down or pick and he needs one of the other, I'll take my chances with Sam. And this offense? Yeah, absolutely. I think he probably gets that done. I'm with you. I think it is a close game. I just keep thinking that the C-Ox defense is the best unit out there. As good as the Niners offense and their defense really good too in ways. In the C-Ox defense, you feel that way with that unit? You feel that way if Leonard's out? Oh, that's a good question. Then I don't know. What does that look like? What does it look like if Leonard's not in there? It means more Ryan Reed, more Riley Mills, a lot of Byron Murphy. Brandon Peely. Yeah, Mike Morrison's side at all maybe. I don't know. No, he's become more of a guy. Okay. So no, be more Peely Mills and Jaren. I'm not changes things. Yeah, there's no doubt. And those guys are good players. Murphy's obviously a great player. Jaren Reed's a very good player still. And I think Peely's good when he's in there. I can no brain and Peely hate. I like that. He's good. He gets after it.
That's different. It's not Leonard Williams though. He's not Leonard Williams. So I'm I'm I'm banking on him playing. Leonard's not going to miss 49ers game. Boise is though. You're not going to be out there. Use checks not going to be out there. We'll wait and see on Mike Evans. Don't know yet whether or not he is going to play in this one. They're all going to build up this game for the right reasons as you heard from Ernest Jones. Honestly, none of what happened last year matters. It's a new year, new season. They got a hell of a group. They've put together really what for for good games. One every one of them. So this is a new team. Just like we have a new team. They got a new team. They're doing some different things. We just got to go out there and you know, do our job. And he's right from the CX perspective. From the Niners perspective though. It absolutely matters. It's a sweet top of their mind, right? Just go five and out game two games. Yeah, and they got a baris last year. Of course they've got last year on their mind. Yeah. Yeah. Look at him. He's the second thing you need to know.
Baseball postseason will continue tomorrow. One game game five decisive battle between the White Sox and Guardians. That will be in Cleveland after the Guardians. One yesterday and kind of ran away with it in the sixth inning. Proposal from the baseball owners yesterday in the CBA negotiations with the players. They propose a plan that would lower the number of regular season games. Drop it from 162 to 154. Create a regular weekly day off. It also would make the division series best of seven so far. Yes, yes, and yes. Now as for allowing the higher seeded teams to choose who they face. I know it's a little. I don't know. Mickey Mouse can try that. I don't need that. I don't care about it too much one way or another. I just thought the players response is so lame. Like, oh yeah, we'll consider it. But please remember that all of this is on contingent upon accepting a salary cap. Well, yeah, and a salary floor. Stop only mentioning the cap. The floor is a big part of that.
Yep, sure seems to be. And we'll see how long they continue to beat that drum. Well, the whole time. Yeah, I'm going to beat that drum until July. That's what's so frustrating about it. I understand they don't want a salary cap. I do think they need to look around and realize that every other sport has one. That baseball has had relied more on the cable networks than any other sport. And that went away. That revenue stream has to ride up. And then finally, like, they're going to give you a floor. I don't know how the players can possibly make that argument. I don't think it works for them at all. Here's the third day you need to know. How about the Cowboys? Cowboys. How about them Cowboys? How about them? I saw another name or like an AI video of Jerry Jones. Launching himself out of the suite. A sound hown. Did you hear Dak Prescott sound? Was he was he pretty upset? I've seen kind of. I just heard they were playing it on sports for like this morning.
They asked him about it being embarrassing. And he said he thought that would be insulting to the bucks and tobels. And the NFL in general. That's a good answer. That's just pretty. It's a pretty awesome. He deals a lot. But he said we should have won that game. I mean, the embarrassing aspect of it is you can't give up almost what, 250 yards rushing to the buckeners. Probably not. You want to know this is a pretty sometimes a very complicated game when you go into all the who has the chalk last and you get all this back and forth and you exhaust and chase every single hedge imaginable. And then you look at Tampa ran 39 times for 241 yards, 39 for 241. You ran 13 for 15. That's not going to be a bulking. You're going to lose to an 0 and 14 when you let them run at 39 times for 241 yards in the NFL. Monsters. Cracken back on the road. They take on Detroit late this afternoon. Red wings. Just they're not very good either. And they're going to make some trades. We'll see. Don't mark and wants to go to a good team. So he's not coming here. Maybe there's a possibility with Edvinson.
Their young defenseman. Huge guy. So something to watch for. That's everything. One thing. Something to watch for too. Just in the NFL. Just these little trends that go back and forth. I'm kind of curious because it land is running all over the place. Multiple 200 yard rushing games. 241 from Tampa on the road. I am kind of curious. This whole shell coverage. You know, you keep. You know, everybody in front of you. You keep a top on everything. Keep two safeties back. And I will kind of be curious if these teams continue to take advantage of that and run and run successfully and run for over 200 yards in a game. If we start to see that like hold on a second. Let's get that extra defender back down there. Like we we're not good enough. OK. To play this show. So what happens then? Because some guys who are going to throw it all over you when you do that. Some text messages. Some of them a bit surprising. Hate to say it. Reality time. Hawks are going to get punched in the mouth. Past opponents tell you all you need to know. No, they don't. That's not really how that works. They don't tell you everything you need to know.
What do you mean past opponents? Like who they've played. That doesn't tell you everything. It just tells you what happened in those games. It doesn't tell you what's going to happen in this game. OK. That's not true. They've got to punch New England in the mouth, right? And finish that game. Don't tell Patrick and Tacoma. Patrick says Ceeox defense has been atrocious. The Ceeox are lucky to be three and one. Well, how about that? Is this what we're going to hear from? I don't know. 406 says, come on, Salk. Nothing that happened last year means anything for this Sunday and the rest of the season. Last year's Super Bowl history. I think it means something to Deamador Lenore and some of the guys on that Niners team who were embarrassed. Yeah. That guy that came out on the player on their team and said the kickoff return. Yeah. Yeah. Kickoff return is his ringtone. I would say it matters a lot to them. And then finally, did I, this one's on Twitter? Did I just hear Salk correctly when he said he doesn't, he hasn't seen anyone calling for Sam Darnal to be benched? Hey, Mike, do you ever scroll social media? No. No, I don't. Of course not. I guess I should have added the word, Michael, just for you.
I have not heard anyone serious calling for Sam Darnal to be benched. Oh, Charles on the internet. Yeah. Unserious. Yeah. Yeah. That's exactly what I'm saying. Yes. Yes. How are you going to be with the callers now? I'm probably a little bit nervous. Probably a little bit. Yeah. No. I didn't get much sleep last night. I was up. I could not fall asleep. And when I get to try cities, that usually makes me cranky. All right. What do you guys got today? 866-979-376. I'm sure you're loyal in scholars. What do you think people all talk about today? You want to talk Sam? You want to talk Proud of me? You want to talk CEO's defense? You want to talk Mariners managerial hunt? We didn't even get to that. I did play that in the 6 AMO. Yeah. Do you want Albert Poo-Hole's? Not really. Not me neither. 866-979-3776. Open phone lines for the rest of this show on a Niners Friday. A football Friday. Powered by St. McWalmy Casino in Hotel. We'll be right back with your calls. I'm broken so. Overwhelmed.

I'll just quickly say before we jump into the calls. I started the show with it at 6. It's a remarkable thing, man. To see the ratings come in yesterday. I just want to say thank you. I know I can get a little feisty with the callers sometimes. I think that's part of the fun of taking calls. But jokes aside, really do appreciate all of you. And everybody who has found the show and the station over the last little while, we've been here for almost 18 years. We've been here now almost as long about as long as exactly the same amount of time as KJR was around when we launched. Remember how many times everyone would say, they had an 18-year head start, they had an 18-year head start. So we're at almost 18 years, 17 and a half, right? We'll get to early April. It'll be 18 years that we've been here. To see the numbers come in and just see how many people have found the station, a lot of newer people who find the station. I mean, like a lot of people who were in the demo then have aged out of the demo now and they don't get counted in those ratings. So all the new people who have found it,
everybody who finds way here to an a little AM radio station, just incredible. And just want to say thank you. It's really, really cool. In addition to all the YouTube and all the other ways people find us, this isn't a promotion. It's just saying thank you. Really from our heart, appreciate it. Yep, cosine. Never get to it. Sine cosine cosine. Cosine sine cosine cosine sine. All right, what are the people going to talk about today? 866-979-3776? We actually have, despite all of those incredible listeners, a couple of lines opens, so we'll see what happens. I know, it's embarrassing. Scared. People are kind of scared. Maybe they are. And maybe they should be. Let's start with Patrick and Nevada. Good morning. Good morning, guys. Happy Blue Friday. I got something to say here about the national media. I feel like they don't have a memory. Kyle Shanahan happened having a lot of luck in the last couple of games against Seahawks. In fact, the first game was kind of a fluke. And now, I've looked at the national media,
I've seen a lot of the pics. The pics are pretty overwhelming on the side of the 49ers. Just a problem I have with that. I'm a Nevada boy. And there's a thing called the line. And these guys are really good at what they do. And they say that Seahawks are the three point favorites. And to me, that seems more realistic than a bunch of people that forget that we have rock-farties number. Kyle Shanahan's number. I'm most pragmatic guy. I usually say, oh man, we might have our hands full. I don't really don't this week. I feel like it will be a great deal. Love the confidence. Love the confidence. I know. I might. Hey listen, I made a lot of money on the commanders because pragmatic. I thought, hey, maybe there's a chance here. And there was. But this week, I don't see it. Mike McDonald, listen, every all these national media people,
they have Sean McVey as the top coach in this league. Kyle Shanahan's a close second. And I don't know where my McDonald fifths in this whole scheme of things. I feel like they think that he can't coach up against Kyle. It's the very opposite. Mike McDonald has these guys' number. It's been proven the last two games. We played against both of these games. I don't see. I scaven a lot of confidence guys. All right. Well, thank you. All right. We just started the ride. It's just going today, Patrick, with a lot to say. I think at 49er fans would say, well, hold on a second, Patrick. Yeah, the last couple games when they were beat up and playing with backups all over the place and run down the the matchups before that, the four other ones, five other ones that Brock played before that. He and Mr. Shanahan won in that building. I know there were only a couple against McDonald, right. But there would be a case, I think, on the other side, a 49er fan chicken their head right now. Like, yeah, you got us when we were down without Frey without Bosa, without without without without Kettle without.
When it was fully healthy, this thing has actually gone the way of the 49ers. Yeah, and the flip side just has to be, but there's no such thing as fully healthy. Like you are who you are when you play that just sort of is what it is. I just don't know whether it portends what's going to happen on Sunday, right. We'll see whether Leonard Williams plays and we'll see whether or not Mike Evans plays. Yeah, I mean, all those things are going to factor in 866 979 3776. Go to our Mundo. Good morning, sir. I'm going to turn your radio down, brother. Come on now. That's not going to work. Let me go to Ryan and Seattle. Good morning, Ryan. Good morning. I'm calling. I was listening to a Marine layer talk about whether the Mariners should pick up Julio's theme option. And I just feel like Seattle fans are so ungrateful and I'm mad about it. Okay. All right. Go ahead. Floor is worse. Okay, let me let me say this. If there was a pitcher who was the first pitcher ever to do something for five seasons
and he played in Colorado, we'd be like, that's an amazing pitcher. We need to like treasure this pitcher's fortitude, their energy. That's an amazing pitcher. And yeah, I'm not saying he didn't have a down year, but it's baseball. People have down years. And I just think we're forgetting how hard it is to hit in Seattle. How much like it's the worst theme to play for as a hitter, full stop with the travel and the park. And Julio never complain. He never like he's not demanding a trade. You know, like we waste two seasons of his prime with terrible management. I don't know. I'm just I'm mad about it. I don't know what that Marine layer you speak of is. I've never heard of. Also, I'm confused about picking up his option. Doesn't Julio have a whole bunch of player options? I don't think they're. No, but the Mariners have the first one in 2028. Like in two years. So the Mariners, I believe, have the first options, which is referencing. It's a little loud tweeting about some of that.
That's not what baseball reference shows. That's interesting. Okay, I have to go look through that. I don't I my memory of it is what baseball reference shows, which is starting in 2030. Julio has like five player options. Yeah, but in 28, the team has the first option. Yes. Of course, I got a 20 million dollars for Julio Rodriguez. Of course, you're going to pick that up. I mean, that's not even a debate. I don't know what Lyle or DJ talk. I don't I haven't heard it yet, but yeah, they're talking about if the decline continues defensively because so much of his war and so much of his style, big what if it's a big one if that this year was not good. No. So in his players get older and get bigger. Can he continue to remain the plus defender that he was in centerfield? Because that is what you're paying that money for. Because the offensive production and especially at home and his career is not good. You'd like to hit a T-mobile. I think the question, I think what I would say to the caller there is your referencing Julio's 2020 seasons right five straight 2020 season starts careers never happened and it is very impressive.
I think that it's it's it's important to note that respect it, honor it while also admitting that we think Julio should be able to do more than that. That 2020 for a guy with his talents should be more of a baseline that he has the ability to be 30 30 and eventually really 40 40 or 40 31 direction of the other that there that there's just so much freaking talent there. And yeah, what he's done is great. It shouldn't it shouldn't be ignored or dismissed or discounted. But I think it's still fair to want more than that because I think he's capable of more than that. 866-979-3776. Let me try Al on Woodpey Island. Good morning Al. Or maybe it's AI. It's hard to tell. I think it's I think it's Al. Maybe it says AI. It's a who knows. Behave yourself Mike. It's Al.
Thank you. All right. I believe that the Behons will have a way with the Myers because the miners are old. All of their players, you know, okay, rock parties play in the credible ball. They played the little sisters of the poor basically. We have not played any really outstanding teams either. But it's beginning to gel where a younger team where a stronger faster quicker we play edge-to-edge. You go over the edge sometimes like we saw last week. The miners are old and you're going to see that on Sunday. So I'm with you on a lot of that Al, but can I just ask what makes you say it's beginning to gel? Because I think you could argue that the worst game they've played was the last one followed by the week before. Like the last two games have not been the two best CX games. What makes you say beginning to gel? Okay. Here's a me. I believe that the officials of this last people officials belong in high school. I think anything they did they touched. You saw some of the three or four of those personal foul calls were ridiculous.
So I believe that they're starting to come together. And the reason I say that you got your two stages coming back, yeah, they don't make mistakes like the last you guys did. Everything else needs to be going well. The front seven that we've talked about so much. Yep. That's good argument. You think they're going to show you the difference. Okay. Yeah. Good. That's good argument. That's a... Oh, you got to... I like that. That's a good argument. So it's not so hard when when Salk asks you a question back to just answer it. Uh huh. Yeah. I like that. Well, I'll tell you I'll tell you this. I'll tell you this. I think a lot of this game as it always does in these heavyweight matchups comes down to just right there at the tug of war line. And you know, the Seattle, if you want to look at these last two matchups compared to some of those previous years, absolutely whip those guys up front. And this is not like safe for Trent Williams. This is not a like unbelievably athletic. Well, thought of there's a bunch of mid-round, light-round, pick left guard to seventh round pick. Poonies and okay, he's a good player third-rounder. The right tackle is a fifth-round pick. They're guys.
They're not. The Denver Broncos' O-line. Right. They're going to see on a Thursday night. So can you or four whip them the way they did in the last two matchups? Conversely, can San France front four? Keep their guys covered. They don't have to, you know, they played a little bit differently and they really rely on those guys to run and Fred Warner's one of the best if not the best middle linebacker win healthy in the game. And can their front four keep those guys covered? They couldn't in the two matchups, especially late. They did early. They did that first one. And you'll remember that guy. What was his name? Oh gosh, I don't think he's there anymore. TCU, little linebacker, they had like 17 tackles in the opener. They just could not get a hat to that guy. Yeah. And I can't remember. Yes, they made that. Gosh, you know what they were talking about. But no, like, can we get to him before we go to the match? Before he hits you every single time. 8669-739-3776. We'll go to Edmonds and talk to Ryan. Hi, Ryan. Good morning. Good morning. Thank you guys for everything you do. Appreciate it. Every morning.
My question is, why can't the Mariners fire manager like a normal organization? This is the second time service found out on the bottom of the ticker evidently. And I think Dan Wilson may have put it out himself. I don't know. You know, I'm not in the organization. I don't know. And is that, I mean, we know this organization behind the scene has problems. But that just seems to be a big symbol and a big knock. So I agree with you with one not necessarily the other. The Scott one was botched. There's no doubt. I mean, allowing that to come out and get reported before they had talked to him, especially given that it was an off day, was lousy and it was really handled poorly. And I'm right there with you. The Dan one, I think, is out of respect for Dan. And I know there's people who were bothered by it. We've heard the reporting on it. I've talked to people in the organization about it. Dives talked to Dan about like Dan wanted the opportunity to address it himself rather than not. So is that botched? It was odd because you don't usually see that. But I think it was done out of respect for Dan and his standing with the team and in the community.
And an attempt to let him do it the way he wanted to do it as supposed to if this cockamame the idea that they forced him to talk about it himself. Like, how would that even work? How do you force somebody to announce your own firing? They just say no. Like Dan wanted to do that, obviously. And so I don't know. Is that botching it? It was odd. But I don't know if they botched that. That's the oddness. And it just runs, it seems to run. This organization seems to be doing a lot of odd things and allowing Jerry to put it to pick a third manager and not fire Justin Holland or somebody in that organization needed to go. Well, that's a different conversation, obviously. I mean, that's a completely different thing. That's actually will be spall stuff as opposed to optics. I mean, look, this is, remember when they fired Tom Wachematsu, the first average of first Asian American manager in the history of baseball on Asian American heritage night. That literally happened. That's amazing. And honestly, in some ways, it was like, well, for everybody who said that PR runs the Mariners,
here's your evidence. It does not. They didn't know anything about that. So I don't know. I didn't think. Hey, in that Buster only sounded. He give any indication of timing. I know your reference to a few names. Nothing else. No, no time to talk. Reach Shannon's piece, though. If you, we're not going to get too deep in it. But if you want to talk, manage your candidates for the Mariners, reach Shannon's piece at CL Sports. Okay. She has five or six names. You probably barely know any of them. But she makes pretty strong compelling cases. And what jumped out to me, Brock this morning is, I think, at five of the six or four of the five, whatever the number is, young, never played, never played in the big leagues. When I was coming up and doing this, you know, and reporting at the beginning, like 2015, 20 years ago, 30 out of 30, 29 out of 30. I mean, like almost everybody. And you don't have players who'd be like, I'm not listening to that guy. I didn't play in the bigs. I don't care what he says. That's gone. Currently right now, 17 of the, well, 16 of the 28 current managers taking Mattingley and Wilson out, 16 of the 28 played.
12 of the 28 did not. Wow. And that crazy. Interesting. It is really flipped. It is really changed in the last generation here in terms of the qualifications to be a manager of a baseball team. 86, 6, 9, 7, 9, 3, 7, 7, 6. Let me try Brian and try cities. Hi, Brian. Hey, good morning, guys. Hey, did you see G Scott? Did you see G Scott in your town last night? Were you with G at all in the try cities? G was in the try cities last night. You see it? No, no, I did not see him. No, but it was a beautiful night. So I'm sure he enjoyed it. Good. Good. What you got? Well, I want to talk to you guys. I'm not really worried about the Seahawks. You know, one thing, Brock, you played a long time as a player. We're practically four games in and all of our starters didn't play any three season. You're starting quarterback, Gertricks, six plays in. On the very beginning of the season, it's out two games.
So, you know, he's coming back from that. Probably the worst thing that could have happened. I see a team that is they have, they didn't play together in three seasons. And I think they're just going to get better and better as we go. They're trying to figure those things out. I think that's one big problem when you don't play starters in the preseason. Now you're just, here, here's the season. Here you go. And you need to just go win. I think they've done a great job. Even on defense, they didn't come in fully healthy. And they've been able to keep us in these games. One thing I do want to see though is I want to see the tight ends more involved. We have great tight ends. And I think if we could read those overload blitzes and get it out to the tight ends faster, maybe it will keep some more of that pressure off Arnold because when he's got time, he is awesome. Yep. That's it. Yeah, no, I think there's some good merit to that. I write down the name Nikki Maim worried in the impact that that had in July and August.
Write that down because we heard it right from the horse's mouth inside those walls when Mike was sitting with Sam Ramston and staff and knowing like, okay, we can replace a lot of other guys. This one is there's just nobody else like him on this roster. And if you remember, I believe it was the San Francisco home game home playoff game. If there was one guy that was spun around a little bit in that game, it was Nick. And you know, it's Shane Han on the other side much like McFaith is going to do in the matchup. He's going to try to neutralize that guy and make him think and make him process and make him move and make him react and make his speed. What you talk about all the time, Saul, is there maybe a, is there maybe a little kryptonite, you know, to this Seahawks defense? It's fast and as wide as much as they perceive, can they use it against all the screens? All right, let's go to our friend Roger and Tacoma. What's up Roger? Good morning. What up, fellas? How you doing? Good. So if you remember, I came on in the, I came on in the office season and I said that they should
franchise Kenneth Walker. Biggest reason why is that their Kansas to win a second football was going to be much higher before they paid Sam Donald. And me and Brock had a little bit of a disagreement as to why we were seeing this different version of Kenneth Walker. Brock thought he was running for a contract. I thought he finally started to see it. Said he, his mind has caught up with his body and he is getting it. Colin, for your props today, Roger. Yeah, you're right. I'm going to fly. I'm going to, I'm going to, I'm going to, I'm going to, I'm going to, I'm going to, I'm going to, I'm not, no, just listen, I'm rarely right. Okay, but I'm right in this particular situation and I'm not necessarily mad actually not doing it. But, but, but the question that's in the cross here is that if you had to do it all over again, would you pay him or would you pay him? And the tough part about this is that you still could have paid both. And, and, and just on a franchise deal, if he was here, we would be
favorite. Well, I think that we could still win two both out of them, but it's just kind of one of those things that you're seeing a really good version of Kenneth Walker. franchise tax. Interesting, Roger. You're right. It's an interesting point. I would not have signed him to the deal that's in that Kansas City did. I would not have signed him to that deal. The franchise tag is an interesting idea. You're, it's a great, it's a good point you made then. It's a good point now. I thought I would play this sound from Coward. Maybe you like him. Maybe you don't, but just this kind of jumped out to me this week. When you let somebody go that's a great player and great talent. You have to eat a dirt sandwich for a year or two. Like when the Lakers chose the Lake Kobe over Shaq, it was the right move. Kobe was healthier. He was more committed. He was less distracted and he was just a great player, right? You knew you had another seven eight years of greatness, like peak. And with Shaq, your body breaks down. He wasn't the greatest practice player. He didn't have the commitment. But Shaq goes and wins the title with Miami and the Lakers have to sit there until they land Paul Gisall. You know, Paul Gisall, and it's like, yeah, can you kind of take it?
That's a good point. I mean, it's a long analogy. I didn't realize it was quite that long. I'm not supposed to look a little different than football. But he's still right. Like that idea of yes, sometimes you got to eat it for a little while. I don't know. Okay. It's been four weeks. Is Roger still there? Yes. Hey, Roger. How do you think K nine would have played as the running back for the Seahawks the last four games? If he was on that franchise, you think he would have been? I think he would have been incredible. I think he's got a good character. I don't think he's going to try to stand back to team. You know, and he would have probably played it out with high motivation to get a contract. But yeah, no, the guy, I just think he gets it. I mean, watching him and be John right now, those guys are like a sweet science on running back. They are incredible. They are. They are through four games. There is just no debate about that. And I do think, yeah, there have been some of these runs, right? Where you see Jadari and get out even in the opener, right? And there's 11. Well, K nine could make that one safety miss and then it turns into 35. And that is what is so. And Jadari and may have that eventually. Eventually, but he hasn't shown it.
No, he has not. He's frustrating to me because I felt like for most of the four years, Kent Walker didn't really show it here either. He did on occasions, but it was not as consistent as it's been. But the first show wasn't as good. I know a couple of years either. I know. I mean, you're putting it together. He didn't have an old line. Those first couple of years. Like McDonald and. Uh-huh. I don't know. Man, I don't know. It's a long season. I'm not going to make a judgment call over four weeks. But I think Roger makes a good point. They could you have had him for one year is a good point. Saying he's a high character guy. So we would have handled that well. I don't know if that's true. I don't think I isn't doing with character or not wanting to be paid and wanting to get. That's not the thought being a low character individual. Let's just say I want to get paid. I'm not going to risk my body until I do trade me. Well, so I'll get pretty good with the colors today. I'm going to say yeah, I'm going to say the colors were good. So I didn't need to be nasty. I think there were a lot of good colors today. And I appreciate them from where were they from all over all over the state and even starting with Patrick down in Nevada. Mm-hmm. All over the place. Appreciate all you guys. And Gals.
Let's be the weekend. What do you mean? Let's be the weekend. Oh, you're in a good mood now. I hear that music. I know it's the weekend. I know we're done for the week. He's working. How about that? That should be kind of fun. And then why I'm going to Bob to finish off the day. We'll see you Monday morning at six until then.
